The Best of Both Worlds: FFmpeg Sharpening + Gifski Compression

I don't think I've shared the script I am now consistently using to turn my DaVinci Resolve clips into GIFs.

I am now using FFmpeg and Gifski scripts in combination. For the best balance of sharpness and compression.

After pointing my terminal/shell (Terminal on Mac and Linux, Powershell on Windows) to the folder where all my clips are, I paste these two commands into the shell/terminal,

for i in .mp4; do ffmpeg -y -i "$i" -filter_complex "smartblur=1.5:-1,unsharp=la=1.5" sharp_${i%.mp4}.mp4; done for i in sharp_; do gifski --fps 22 --width 540 --quality 100 -o ${i%.*}.gif "$i"; done

You can past them in at the same time or paste in one then the other.

The first script makes new copies of your clips and sharpens them, giving them the prefix "sharp_". The second script compresses those sharpened clips into GIFs.

In the second script, the numbers to the right of the fps, width, and quality flags can be adjusted to compress GIFs further or scale them down. (540 is the appropriate width for a single column set).

Bynine Art Rendering Tutorial

i've gotten about eight billion asks about how i render my art, so here's a full-scale tutorial! (this consolidates a lot of smaller past tutorials, so my apologies if this is old news to you lol...)

Step 1 - sketch! I draw multiple iterations in my real-life sketchpad first until I'm happy with the concept, then I either scan it or reference it for the digital sketch.

Step 2 - Lineart! I use a pixelated brush in Paint Tool SAI, as I find it makes the final result look nicer.

Step 3 - Flat colors! Good ol' paint bucket is all I need for this

Step 4 - Shading! What I'll do is copy the flat color layer and set it to pure white as an overlay. Then I'll shade this new layer with black so the original colors can peek through.

Step 5 - Noise! Switching over to paint.net, I apply a noise effect to add texture to the art.

Step 6 - Blur! A slight blur changes the feel from digital to traditional, or at least like scanned art.

Step 7 - Color correction! I bring out the yellow in the highlights and the blue-purple in the shadows, using paint.net's Curves tool.

CASP Editor - Easily change clothing categories in TS3

Have you also felt frustrated with how many nice outfits were categorized in TS3 as everyday, but not outerwear? Wanted your sim to wear the high heels to the pool?

Use the Easy CASP Editor (only works for TS3 versions up to 1.67 though!) to easily change the categories of clothes. You can also hide them in CAS, make valid for random/career and more!

How to do that?

Just open the Easy CASP Editor and in the lower left of the app window you will have a field to choose your CC/EP from:

Select where the piece you want to edit is from and find it in the list above. I will pick the jacket from Supernatural, which was only enabled for Everyday/Formal:

Then, in the menu on the right, click the categories you want the clothing to appear in. NOTE: Pregnant clothes will not have morphs, and checking the other gender or age will *not* convert the clothing or actually enable it for that age.

You can edit as many clothes in one go as you'd like. Then, you just click File -> Save package...

... and it's done!
