in lieu of having posted any writing/headcanons/asks in the past few days because i have been *so* busy and unable to do anything fandom-related which is terrible and evil, i have a poll out of morbid curiosity and self-indulgence. i've been meaning to ramble here about how i feel about DC's lack fo Deaf representation and which Batfam members i would personally make Deaf, but i am mildly curious about the larger opinion and now i will subject you all to the question, i would love to hear thoughts/opinions/headcanons on any specific choices. (would love d/Deaf/HoH opinions esp but i'm mostly expecting this to reach the hearing crowd, so opinions from hearing ppl are ones i'm very curious about. if you've never given it thought before you are going to now or else /lh)

What is Hackle you ask? Hackle is a ship name referring to Miss Ada Cackle (Headmistress and Spells Teacher of Cackle's Academy) and Miss Hecate Hardbroom (Deputy Headmistress and Potions Teacher of Cackle's Academy) from the show Worst Witch (2017). In other words it's dem lesbian witches I keep drawing over and over. They got it all, loyalty, tenderness, THE CLOSENESS!! Just watch the first episode and you'll understand!

Is it worth watching? If you enjoy silly shows, cute dynamics, and all things that are witchy, then yes! But if you're not a fan of occasional bad writing and character development that will undoubtedly be forgotten the very next episode, this show might not be for you. Lol

woke up in a panic thinking I’d agreed to participate in a pre TIT gift exchange and was running super late. I had a dream about desperately trying to find the person’s blog and when I sent the one I thought it was an anon asking when their show is they were just like “wouldn’t you like to know :)” however they were also a voyager fan which was highly specific but incredibly convenient given that I finished voyager recently so I was like ok I’ll write you a voyager au. I was gonna write actual rpf for them. I was having visions. and then I woke up.

Something I really love about Impa (Skyward Sword) is that she's so gentle. Like, she's stoic, she's no-nonsense, she perfectly capable of being harsh, but save for her introductory scene, she consistently displays patience and kindness to the people she talks to. This is most obvious with Zelda, because that's whom Impa is in the best position to have these kinds of interactions with, and then again most obvious in the last scene with young Impa where she gently consoles an upset Zelda. But you can also see it in shorter moments, like when she mentions she'd like to plant a tree for Zelda to see when she wakes up. And even as old Impa, who's mainly here to infodump and has overall less personality than young Impa imo, you can see this patience and kindness in the way she interacts with Groose. She's firm in her convictions and doesn't sugercoat anything, but repeatedly encourages him and helps him realize his own talents and the way he can help.

I also think her body language plays a large role as to why she reads as so gentle to me despite not getting many emotional interactions with people: it's very controlled and minimal, relying on subtle movements and expressions. This is in contrast to most other characters in the game, who are much more overtly expressive. Obviously this makes her read as stoic (her more formal language also helps with that), but it also makes her read as very gentle to me. It's a much 'softer' style of expressing herself than the other characters in the game, and it means that when she does something like sit up a little before tilting her head slightly down when Link sasses her with 'Am I late?', or smiles and puts her hand on Zelda's shoulder to reassure her, it reads as more meaningful.

The biggest break in this pattern of gentleness is, of course, her introductory scene where she rips into Link for failing to save Zelda. Her furious expression right before the monologue is probably the most expressive we see her in the game, and this scene is the closest we get to seeing her lose her composure, save maybe for when she's defeated in battle by Ghirahim. She's still controlled and methodical, but clearly furious at having to save Zelda from capture. Full analysis of this scene is a different post, but suffice to say that it stands out against a backdrop of overwhelmingly patient and kind behaviour. It shows just how serious she takes her role to protect Zelda.

It's a very strong introduction, but it's a shame that it seems to have overshadowed the rest of her character for some parts of the fandom (especially those biased towards Link, which is unfortunately a lot of people). It's notable for just how unusually harsh she is in it; it is not the baseline of her character. That baseline is actually quite patient and gentle, a quality I wish more people would acknowledge.

you know what i’m thinking about. in the unmasked run in robin 93 where jack figures out tim is robin and does so by breaking tim’s privacy and going through his room and it’s often used as backup that jack was abusive most specifically in fanon spaces where bruce can then be posed as tim’s true father/better than jack and like dgmw it was bad and shitty and he shouldn’t have done it.

but it’s also funny that right before this, in that same issue—#124—it starts off with this terrible sequence of bruce treating tim like shit because he’s lost confidence in himself after accidentally killing (but not permenantly; now it seems that way) johnny warren; bruce’s defense here is tim doesn’t know this factually which i mean is fair, but he calls it an excuse and basically doesn’t address the core of tim’s feelings At All. like. look.

Bruce: This is dangerous business, Robin. No such thing as calling “time out” or “no fair.” Not unless you want those to be your final words, before the cops fish your body out of the Gotham River. Tim: Give me a break, Bruce. You’re Batman. How can I possibly hope to beat you in one-on-one combat? As the new year approaches and people start talking about resolutions, I urge you to meet yourself where you are. Especially for people who are ND, disabled/ill, or otherwise struggling. The arbitrary reset button of January 1 offers a great opportunity for problem solving, but not if you're hoping to just become a completely different person.

So if you're not the kind of person who enjoys going to the gym, resolving to go more is not gonna work. Instead, if you want to be more active, things like signing up for that ballet class you've always wanted to do, taking time once every week or two to find a new and interesting place to walk around, or even just resolving to get up from your chair once every hour are all legit tactics.

And sometimes that looks like finding different ways to solve a problem. If you struggle to remember to clean the litter box, sure, you could remind yourself more sternly or find different ways to remind yourself or just feel that much more ashamed when you inevitably forget. OR you could resolve that you're gonna save up for one of those self-cleaning litter boxes so you can take that chore off your mental plate.

Just, be gentle with yourself. This new year, rather than trying to move closer to some imagined standard lifestyle, look for ways to make the life you've got a little easier, a little more enjoyable. Take small steps, avoid shaming, and make it fun.

And remember, resolving this year to just accept your life as it is and find peace with that is a valid option too.
