Why do trade evolutions work the way that they do?

You know, I've been meaning to talk about this, I'd actually like to do some kind of video on this but let me touch on this topic a bit.

Back in the day, trading seemed to yield strange energy, as pokemon were sent through PC's they would be broken down into energy, someone which reacted different than others.

Now a days the PC service has been regulated and maintained much better that it doesn't happen as often, and the pokemon that do evolve by training now have different exposure.

Shelmet and Kara Karablast are special cases because they can only evolve when trained with each other, this is due to Karablast stealing Shelmets shell during the trade process.

Whereas Gengar and Alakazam responded differently to the unstable power of the old school PC's that caused them to gain new power.

We don't have those power fluctuations very often now, but it was discovered that older cords still held some of that power and could be used without actually trading.

It's really a result of unregulated powers and technology mixing.

These pokemon can exist in the wild but certain conditions needs to be met, like an over abundance of ghostly or Psychic powers to Kickstart an evolution, but it happens.

Other than that, it's a lot more of a feature rather than an error now.

Golden Hour in Ecruteak City

A piece I did for the Pokemon Trading Card Illustration Contest that didn't make it to the next round.

Feraligatr is my favorite starter Pokemon of all time, so I wanted to make a piece that expressed my love for all the time we’ve spent together in Pokemon games over the years.

I feel a lot of Feraligatr art shows it being fierce and aggressive, so I wanted to show that it also has a gentle and friendly side too. The idea I had in mind was my old friend, a retired Champion Feraligatr, basking in the golden hour sunlight in Ecruteak City.

Marill is also a favorite Pokemon of mine who is also usually on my Johto team and it is giving Feraligatr the crown of golden shiny leaves, similar to the one found in HeartGold and SoulSilver. I have fond memories of finding all the leaves and giving the crown to my Feraligatr.

Like last time, I will be selling prints of this piece since it didn't make it in. It's up for preorder in my shop.
