Treebeard takes his pet hobbits for a walk.

This was so much fun to draw, really happy with how he looks, I think he turned out just as I imagined him in the series! I based him off an oak tree, I don’t believe he has a given tree in the books but I could be wrong lol.

I tried to paint with acrylic. I have no idea how to draw details in this style. I have no patience for this :D

LOTR-posting: I do love how Celeborn warns the Fellowship away from Fangorn, and then when Merry and Pippin end up there and tell Treebeard this he says that he’d have warned them away from Lothlorien. And then at the end of the book when Celeborn and Treebeard meet it turns out they’re old friends who’ve known each other for millennia.

Often having a Hobbit POV means there’s hints of whole battles and alliances and histories and worlds going on around the story that you’ll never get to really see - and sometimes it means “you’re never going to figure out whatever this forest-related beef is between two different varieties of Tree Guy.”

(I also love that the Bakshi LOTR has the same actor doing Treebeard and Celeborn!)

Broke: the Ents and the Silvans don’t interact because they don’t live in the same place and the Ents are more solitary creatures.

Woke: the silvans and Ents have a good working relationship, and while not close, they are united in their love for the forest.

Bespoke: the Silvans and Ents can and will gossip via their weird tree talking powers, and Thranduil and Treebeard have a standing argument over which woodland creatures are better: elks or squirrels.

I love your art! I'm curious as to what you think about the Ents in your eldritch au-- are they related to the elves at all? Also now I'm picturing treebeard with the bug hobbits lol :)

Aww thank you! <333 Hmm I'd say the Ents aren't related to the Elves even though they're both of the tree variety XD As for their design, I was thinking about going for a "biblically accurate angel" vibe with lots of eyes, since I did want to give them more of an eldritch look and feel:

Here's Treebeard with Merry and Pippin! I wouldn't call this my final design for him, but it's what I've got in my head so far, and I'd say it fits the vibe I'm going for XD And you can bet he's going to use all of his eyes to keep an eye on those Hobbits lololl

Rereading The Two Towers and noticed a heartwarming detail.

When Treebeard meets Merry and Pippin, not knowing what hobbits are, he tries to place them using his memory-rhyme of the "lore of Living Creatures":

Hobbits are nowhere on the list, so Pippin suggests adding a line next to Men:

And later, after the destruction of Isengard, when Treebeard is bidding Merry and Pippin farewell, he says:

Treebeard didn't just add them to the list, he put them directly after Ents! Since hobbits are the "little" form of the Big People, one would think their natural place is right after "Man the mortal," but Treebeard placed them directly after his own kind in honor of their friendship <3
