RWBY WhiteRose Canon Rewrite

I am struggling to articulate the feelings I'm experiencing right now...

...I want to make a comeback as a WhiteRose fanfic writer after being inactive for over 5 years (save for editing stories for my best friend and my ex in the past).

I have these inexplicably strong feelings- the need to rectify how much a show that I used to love has been ruined over time by bad directors and writing teams, as well as Rooster Teeth's greed- following Monty's death, ages ago.

I want to make sure Weiss is there for Ruby when she needs it the most.

I want them to bond over this harsh world they live in, over the many losses, the grief, the pain... Everything they went through.

They are best friends. They are partners. They deserve better than whatever the hell Volume 7 to 9 were supposed to be.

I don't know how I will manage this with everything I have going on in my life right now, but I want to at least try.

I owe it. To myself. To anyone who enjoys WhiteRose and has been left high and dry all these years.

As a tribute to Monty, to those I loved who are no longer here.

As a tribute to RWBY itself- to Weiss and Ruby. To how much they all meant to me and how they have changed my life.

If I have any self-respect left, this will be the one fanfic I will post and invest the most time in, if I ever make it back into the WR fanfic writing scene.

And to hell with whatever everyone else thinks. Feel free to disagree, feel free to block me, take the piss or whatever- I'm not doing this to please anyone. I'm doing this for me and what I value, which will likely never align with whatever every other rando on the internet thinks or feels.

Weiss will protect Ruby and help her get back up on her feet. They will talk, they will show all of the f*cking gay shades and colors of their friendship, relationship, and partnership. And I will be damned if I don't go down with this ship.

It’s officially been 10 years: a whole decade since the passing of Monty Oum on February 1st 2015… Monty wasn’t just a iconic web animator he was a legend who made amazing work on Rooster Teeth’s Red Vs Blue content and on his own animated series; RWBY; starring a team of 4 colour coded protagonists setting out on a journey to become Hunters and Huntresses. A very iconic animated series known for its worldbuilding, characters, setting, writing, storytelling and iconic fight scenes (Monty was a prodigy in mixing fighting with dancing) and I’d like to say thank you Monty, for so much my friend and rest well too even after a whole decade since then. We’ll see you later bro.

Scary Stories With Weiss

Ruby: Weiss, you said you had a scary story for us on Halloween.

Weiss: Yes, I do. This was a tale told to me by my father, and it's based on a true story.

Weiss: Did you know that every woman, man, and child is haunted, and they must pay tribute to a demon. This demon will follow you wherever you go, no matter how you try to fight it. Go to the store, and they're there. If you try to eat, they're there, too! And they wait for you in the shadows to jump you and take a piece of you with them! See, every time you do anything, Ruby, this demon will take a part of you as their tribute, and they suck it out of you! They suck you like... Khm! Well, the point is they suck you until there's nothing left to suck, and still, they never stop sucking, even when you're dead!

60-something confessions, weve paid our tribute, what are YOUR confessions

Okay, here goes 10 confessions from me:

1.

I wish we had seen Pyrrahs friendships, I think she and Ren would've been good friends since both of them are so level headed.

I headcanon that they would take care of the school garden together, Pyrrah would struggle a bit with delicate plants but same time be happy to be able to learn from his peers new things for once.

One day she learns that Nora and Ren are orphans. Her respect for them grows, seeing them as so much stronger for not having the same support she had growing up, yet here they are thriving. She makes sure to invite them over during holidays and for other things they possibly missed out on as kids.

She doesn't care for cooking but often goes to shop for ingredients with Nora.

I think Freezerburn is incredibly soft.

Weiss is able to cool down hot-headed Yang and Yang is able to melt away the Ice Queens tsundere tendencies. :'-) <3

I miss seeing the street fashion influence when it comes to designs, ofcourse I understand why it isn't there as much anymore but I can still moan about it.

Yangs' tsuyome-esque looks was my fave, it was fire and I wanted to cosplay it so badly.

Ruby's look reminds me of something I wore when I was 12yo actually

Only on my second watch I realised that Ironwood looks really hot with this look and it's a shame that it got SO little screen time. And same with Winters first look.

Also on my second watch I realised that the straps on Oscars' gloves are green not black ???

Remember bootleg Neptune from volume 4? Yeah he sure exists. But what if he did more?

Weiss is trapped in Atlas, she's lonelier than ever, she can only go to places and events dad approves of. And this guy keeps coming around, maybe they meet at the Schnee Manors garden, why not go for a bad boy?

They have fling going on, for Weiss it's mostly out of boredom and finding him good looking. If she's trapped might as well have fun. Maybe they'll get in trouble or have some other sort of side plot going on together but eventually when Weiss gets a window to escape out of Atlas, she's faced with a decision.

Stay with the guy who obviously finds it insane to trade living high life in Atlas to go chase some pals she met at school in other kingdom. Weiss snaps out of the rose coloured glasses after hearing this, ultimately choosing her friends.

Idk I just wish they let them do the usual young people fuck ups and learning experiences if there's going to be whole volume of them sitting around

The bird thing. Make Raven tell Weiss and Yang how the experience was as she remembers, give them reason to be shocked. So here's my suggestion:

Maybe the process was violent since current humans aren't used to magic in any shape, they're stripped from their autonomy in that moment and it's humiliating.

Like Amber was in the chamber beneath Beacon, Oz did it to Branwens there in similar way? Underground to not attract grimm, no one to hear their screams, its cold and dark, they're stripped like Amber to act as guinea pigs for this man.

Qrow has (more or less) made peace with all that trauma and what happened since he thinks its suffering for the greater good. After all, the man doesn't really have home to go back to. He doesn't want to bring misfortune to people he loves and the tribe doesn't really want him back.

However Raven learns that Salem can't be beaten, meaning she and Qrow suffered for only to be ideal candidates for a suicide mission...

I want Qrowin angst, please crwby, I want to suffer lmao

Give Qrow absolutely losing it, calling Winter after Atlas falls asking her if she knows where the kids are? Where did she last saw them?

And when Winter tries to answer Qrows questions she can't bring herself to say it; they're gone. She was there and she couldn't save them, not even her own sister. The words just won't come out... and after the silence she tells him to meet her in Vacuo, after all he deserves to know.

Whatever differences they had in the past feel so miniscule now.

(Aaand I headcanon that both of them craved for a "normal" family, making this little story even more horrible!)

Yang "shooting" kids' leg on live TV should've had more consequences me thinks. Give me atleast someone commenting or being vary of her.

Her arm is brand new Atlas tech according to Tai, maybe someone would see it as an issue after finding out that she got it for free from Ironwood himself.

Maybe anti Yang propaganda being showed around town could've pushed her to work with Robyn (lol)

ALMOST LIVESTREAM: A TRIBUTE TO MONK with Joe Lovano, Kevin Hays, Doug Weiss, and Bill Stewart, SMOKE JAZZ CLUB, 26 OCTOBER 2024, 9 pm set

A very similar band (Al Foster, not Bill Stewart, on drums and a different bass player) played 2022’s Monk Tribute at Smoke. I reread that souvenir this week and noted that I valued Foster’s work behind the kit and appreciated Joe Lovano (a revered name but then and still, not familiar) and Kevin Hays (a more familiar acquaintance who I’ve sometimes found too cute for his own good). Stewart and Doug Weiss were both impressive with big but tasteful, appropriate sounds both and each.

But it really was Hays’ and especially Lovano’s gig.

Hays is not a particularly Monkish player, but he is smart, yeah, clever. He has some bebop contrafacts, but those discords and jerky rhythms are not Monk’s. He had sheet music in front of him all night which he watched intently; for some, even the lead sheet would be superfluous. This is not to diminish his inventiveness, rather he really worked the tunes, taking them very seriously indeed. This was most evident on Bye Ya and We See which he introduced, backing into the tunes at the last minute with little hint on first listen (and not much more the second time through). Monk occupied his active mind and gave him something to chew on.

The real treat is that I may well be beginning to get Lovano. It helped that I watched it with my Toledo friend who esteems his tone. And it is true, he is both robust on the low end of the horn and light up high. Neither growls nor squeaks, just a litheness in the service of the tunes. He has so many ideas, but he is also concise and to the point. He is more than just another very good tenor player.

And what tunes! Lovano’s own Bird’s Eye View, then Bye Ya, a gorgeous Reflections (the show stopper as far as I’m concerned, just rich, gentle and resilient), We See, Ruby My Dear, and another I can’t name. All familiar and fully representative, but, Ruby aside, not the usual choices.

Monk was served by fresh invention and not slavish imitation and cliche. And that, I take it, is the point of his music.

Mama Arc: I still believe I should have been inside there.

Hello Everyone!!

for those who don't know i have a redbubble, at which i posted some RWBY stickers I'd make, but due to some unbelievable taxes (like really, i know my country is probably known to have taxes atop taxes, redbubble's taxes surprised even me ) i will be deleting the designs there and then officially closing my account(by the end of the year i suppose). Some of the stickers ^^:

anyway, to give time I will be deleting all 130 designs 4 days from now. so today is May 15th(happy birthday Weiss🥰) then after May 19th there will be no more of my stuff on the site. (and if you see any of my artwork you recognize please let me know)

Yeah. It was obvious but man it hurt. Especially since she seemed like a mainstay for the rest of the series. Love/hate when (anime inspired) shows follow that cliché.

Look on the bright side, Jaune. At least she didn't die in your arms and ask you to tell their friends how much they meant to her. Thumbs up if you got that reference.

Nothing like watching a character fight a battle you know they're going to lose.

Then again, there is no bright side. Our heroes have to make one and set a course for the future. Like the weird eerie figure who wants to snuff out that light.

And now the remainder of our cast is left to pick up the pieces. And answer unanswered questions that will no doubt be answered in the future.

Yang is heartbroken over what transpired pushing others away and wallowing in her pain, Blake is on her own again, Ruby has a new set of powers and trauma to work with, the Kingdoms are being torn apart from the inside, the rest of the world has a false pretense of what really happened in Vale under the Atlas military, Weiss was taken away by her father whom she's been trying to avoid for so long, Ozpin is "missing" and AWOL, Vale is being rebuilt yet evacuated by all who once lived there, a new figure who knows Ozpin appears with a hatred yet a recognition for what humanity instills in itself and Beacon has fallen.

Not gonna lie. Part of me wishes they saved Beacon falling for another volume.

It's not hard to see it meant a lot to our protagonists, but it feels like there's a certain level of oomph missing because it feels like they weren't allowed to fully enjoy it. The "Plot" had to happen, and there could've been more moments that showed they saw most of their lives happening there.

But! It still is impactful to some extent due to how 'beginning of the end' the finale was and changes up the story since they can't go back there for awhile. Both physically and emotionally.

And now the real major question remains: How much history has been lost to (before) Remnant, and how many know said knowledge that will change things forever?

Oh joy! Free time! I wonder what I can do with all this free time...

[Weiss walks the streets of Mantle , frowning at the devastation. Had she benefited from their suffering ? Was she to blame ? She put a hand on Penny’s sword and thought of what she would do. Be kind, do justice ? Where could justice start here ?]

Weiss - I wish Penny was here

[Almost as if responding to her wish , a green light shot across the sky]

[Weiss’s eyes bulged]

Ruby - No way ! :0

[Weiss frantically glances down at Pennys sword , and frantically tried to unclip it]

Yang - It’s too late for that

Draconic Titles (RWBY AU)

What draconic titles might Team RWBY have if they were dragons?

Yang the Golden. We’ve already seen this one in a snippet. One of the oldest and mightiest of dragons. The beauty and value of her incredible hoard is surpassed only by her golden scales. She is said to be the wealthiest of all dragons and, in some respects, the vainest, taking pride in her power and beauty. It is said that only weapons of divine origin can mar her scales, and that each wound she has suffered has only made her stronger. However, she can typically be found napping in the volcano she calls home or basking on its slopes on sunny days.

Ruby the Silver. Most people are quite surprised when they see Ruby since they assume she will have silver scales instead of the crimson scales she actually has. Instead, her title refers to her silver eyes and the fact that her fire is silver instead of the usual colour. Said to be amongst the kindest of dragons, she is nevertheless exceedingly greedy... for cookies. In the lands she rules, it is forbidden to harm a baker, and she demands regular tribute in the form of baked goods, prizing them over the trinkets and treasures most other dragons favour. She does still have a hoard, but she really only adds to it when she has to smash people and take their stuff.

Blake the Wise. A shadow dragon of great and terrible power. It is said that her library, which is held in an alternate dimension made of shadows, would drive people mad if they were to read even a single book of it. And, yeah, she has all sorts of eldritch tomes, but she also has the largest collection of smut in history. One of the reason she worked so hard to gain the ability to take on a humanoid form (she learned from a cat Faunus, which is why she has that shape) is to explore all the possibilities. She also may have taught Yang the technique for similar purposes. Of course, she is best known for her wisdom. Scholars come from near and far to learn at her feet, and she has taught many of the great sages and leaders of the past.

Weiss the Elegant. Said to be the most elegant of dragons. Although relatively small (she would say petite) for a dragon of her age and power, she has taken her mastery of runes and seals far beyond even the storied heights of the dwarf legends of yore. There are none living, and none who have lived, who can match her skill in those arts, and she is said to make a point of slaying her foes as elegantly as possible. What is less well known is that she frequently visits Blake, not simply to peruse her tomes of magical lore but also to borrow smut. Can frequently be found visiting Ruby as well although none of Ruby’s subjects are entirely sure why. However, it is known that during those visits, Ruby permits none to visit her mountain. It’s probably secret dragon business.

After the heartache of the Volume 8 finale, I would like to return to a happier point in the show and suggest some memes/jokes that I like to think the students at Beacon would have had. More closely inline with the RWBY Chibi-verse, than the actual show - where Nothing Bad Ever Happened.

"Who's child is this?" being used to refer to Ruby - the youngest student at Beacon - when she's left unsupervised and/or doing something odd.

"I'd let Glynda punish/whip me for one corn chip."

Every now and again "Missing - Have you seen this person?" posters for Professor Peach will pop up around campus. No one knows who it is that keeps making them.

Vomit Boy candids being taken and shared any time Jaune is Suffering™️ on some form of transport.

The Great One plush of Pyrrha exists in-universe... and becomes the go-to prize for any stupid competition between the students. There's at least a dozen of these dolls on campus now, owned by various people and won as "spoils of war."

There's a dedicated chalkboard in the combat room for tallying how many times Nora has launched someone into the stratosphere. Notable mentions are listed on the board alongside her of other people who have achieved this feat - including Yang, Yatsuhashi, and Glynda.

(She launched both Port and Oobleck one day when they kept annoying her. Sometimes, their screams can still be heard if you listen closely enough.)

"There's that old guy again..." "Oh, shopkeep? Yea, he's everywhere. Don't think too much about it."

This leads to "Don't think too much about it." becoming something of a slogan for every time anything unusual happens.

"Candy canes, kids! One for Sun Wukong, one for Yang Xiao-Long, ooh four for Coco Adel, you go Coco!"

Team STRQ having something akin to legend status at Beacon, whispered in hushed voices for fear and reverence of their names. There's a war between the students regarding team JNPR as their successors vs. the students who insist JNPR are not anywhere near worthy of such a title.

"How many team CRDLs does it take to beat Pyrrha?"

Blurry fancam-style videos of the Qrow vs. Winter fight out in the courtyard being traded around like baseball cards with other students. Some try and manufacture a "rematch" of this with the materials they've got - trying to get Ruby and Weiss to fight each other. 

That weird sing-song "HellOooOo~" that Yang sometimes does being mimicked by everyone. And I mean everyone.

Any time there's a significant lull in conversations or classes, someone often asks "Why are we here?" which never fails to make everyone in the vicinity groan.

"Ozpin is compensating for something" jokes about his office chair - including at least one popular response being "it's the war crimes", without them knowing just how accurate they actually are.

"On a scale of Ren-Nora, how excited do you want me to be?"

"Ladies Love Lavender" referring to Lisa Lavender having her own in-universe fandom mostly comprised of women. (Lavender being associated with lesbians irl, and I just think this would be funny.)

The sight of Ren just picking up and carrying Nora away from something is so commonplace that other people start doing it to their friends when they Need To Stop.

"Why is Blake's bow so big?" "Because it's full of secrets."

Blake being a closet faunus being such a poorly hidden secret that by the time she finally takes off the bow no one actually even notices. 

The betting pool surrounding exactly what it is in Ozpin's cup - coffee being one of the least popular options, and souls being the top choice.

Using Yatsuhasi as a unit of measurement. 

Photoshopping adorable images of Velvet onto various "cute" animal memes.

Everyone wanting to be spanked by Coco Adel. 

"I'd let Fox blow me up too."

"Why is Weiss' hair so long?" "To reflect the length of her father's crimes."

Everyone mimicking Pyrrha's memetic "I'm sorry!" anytime they apologise for anything. Even going as far to do it while apologising to things that don't require apologies - like inanimate objects.

"Are Port and Oobleck, you know... 💅?"

In fact, just that 💅 being used to refer to a large number of people at Beacon. Actual LGBT students picking this up and using it towards grimm when they're attacked to question the sexuality/homophobia of the grimm targeting them over their peers.

Threatening Neptune with water anytime he flirts with a girl who is clearly Not Interested in him.

No one knowing who, exactly, the other two members of team SSSN are - with wild theories abounding about who they may be. Popular choices include Shopkeep, Zwei, and Professor Peach.

This persists even after their tournament fights where they're shown. Scarlet and Sage are perfectly content with this, and participate.

"Arslan's/Pyrrha's back must be aching from constantly carrying her entire team."

And the respective responses of, "Reese/Nora are alright."

Similar jokes about Glynda also carrying the entire faculty/academy on her back.

"Salutations!"

The war between the "Irondaddy" fanbase, and his haters - who refer to him with various derogatory versions of his name. "Metalpenis", "Coppercock", "Chromeshaft", etc.

Anytime someone is doing something ~questionable~ donning a pair of glasses and/or imitating Oz or Oobleck pushing them back up their nose with accompanying menacing body language. (Kubrick Stare optional.)

Mercury having a foot fetish, courtesy of the people who caught him sniffing shoes at the festival.

"Did <character> just die?" "You know, it was really unclear." any time someone takes some insane damage in a fight and isn't seen for some time afterwards.

Everyone trying to locate and get a pic of the ~mysterious~ fourth member of team CMSN, who has only ever been spotted once - her tournament fight in the first round. Beacon's version of "Where's Wally?"

The Sympathy Fund for Emerald and her one-sided crush on Cinder. "She could honestly do so much better."

People offering themselves up as tribute to spar with Pyrrha/Yang/Coco/Sun just so they can be beaten up by the hottest people on campus.

"I drink milk!" being used as a defensive argument in wildly inappropriate contexts.

Naming grimm really boring names and attempting to keep them as pets. 

The innumerous times Port has allowed a "zoo-break" to happen under his watch and everyone having to assist in recovering his prized subjects.

"Where the fuck are all the fourth years?" "Ozpin's soul collection."

Candid shots of Glynda Suffering™️ being shared similarly to the ones of Vomit Boy.

Ranking people based on their Patience Levels - Pyrrha, Ren, Glynda, Emerald, and Fox being frequent top markers based on the bullshit they put up with from their respective teams.

"Saint Pyrrha" being a common nickname for her, and her neverending niceness towards people who absolutely do not not deserve it.

Weiss' "Hey!" being replicated amongst the student body and slowly growing more and more high-pitched in its replication until it eventually just becomes a shrill noise. Even so, everyone still knows what it means - and Weiss is absolutely unamused by all of this.

In fact, a lot of early!Weiss' comments being mercilessly mocked by everyone - "I'm a victim!" being one of them.

Renowned fear permitting amongst the student body regarding Yang's red eyes meaning Serious Business. Morphs into references of "going full Yang" to mean having rage-fuelled temper tantrums.

"Never miss a beat, never miss a beat" becoming a mantra for focusing on a task. This inspires several remixes of Neon saying it, and again with no one knowing who it is making them.
