#DailyDevotion Jesus Gives Food To Those Who Fear Him Psalm 111 The LORD is kind and merciful: 5He gives food to those who fear Him; He will always remember His covenant. These verses also are very much related to the LORD's Supper. Here in this sacrament of His body and blood we see the kindness and mercy of our God. In this meal with which He feeds us, He forgives us our sins and remembers them no more. He declares Himself as our God and we as His people. He put the Law in our hearts, that is, He gives us the Holy Spirit to instruct our hearts in His ways and gives us power to do His works in this life. To fear Him means to worship Him and to look to Him alone for every good. He makes His covenant with us in the Supper and just as we remember His death until He comes, He remembers the promise of His covenant here. 6He showed His people His power by His works, by giving them the land of the nations. He showed the Israelites His power by demonstrating it upon the Egyptians and those who opposed Israel in battle. He gave the land of the children of Canaan into the hands of the Israelites. In similar fashion, Jesus demonstrates the power of His hands, defeating sin, death and power of evil one by His death and resurrection. When Jesus comes again in glory, He will remove all the nations and governments of the world and give the world to His people, the Church. 7Faithful and just are the works of His hands; all His guiding principles are reliable. 8They are unshakably firm forever; they are faithfully and correctly put into action. Jesus said in Matthew 7, 24“Anyone who hears and does what I say is like a man who had the sense to build his house on a rock. 25The rain poured down, the torrents came, the winds blew, and they beat against that house. But it didn't go down, because its foundation was on the rock. 26“Everyone who hears what I say but doesn't do it is like a man who was so foolish he built his house on sand. 27The rains poured down, the torrents came, the winds blew, and they beat against that house. And it went down with a big crash.” It would be good for us to meditate on the Sermon on the Mount. It is these words especially but all of His teachings elsewhere, especially those from His apostles, that Jesus is referring to. We are called to believe them but then also to put them into practice. His teachings are reliable and unshakably firm. 9He sent liberty to His people and ordered His covenant to be forever. His name is holy and awesome. 10To be wise, first fear the LORD; it is good sense for all to do that. He will be praised forever. In John 8 Jesus says, “36If, then, the Son frees you, you will really be free.” Paul in Romans 8 tells us, “2The rule of the Spirit, who gives life, has in Christ Jesus freed you from the rule of sin that kills.” In Galatians 3 he writes, “13Christ paid the price to free us from the curse of the Law when He was cursed for us (it is written: "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”) 14so that in Jesus Christ Abraham's blessing would come to the nations and we would receive the promised Spirit through faith.” This is the liberty Jesus sent to and sends to all who put their faith in Him. This new covenant in His blood is forever. This covenant, as seen in Jer. 31:31ff is unconditional. It simply calls up to believe it. All the work is His. Now modern Jews take the last part of verse 9 literally. His name is holy and awesome. The name in the Old Testament would be Yahweh. But they would take it to mean Qâdôsh and Noreah. We would say today, Jesus. We are called to be wise and fear the LORD. To fear the LORD is to hate evil and love the good. The Word teaches what that means. Heavenly Father, You have given us Your Son's body and blood for us to eat as the New Covenant. Grant us through this meal true fear and freedom. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

Living with Losing You - 01/15/2023

I cried in the TrueFood Kitchen at UTC today. 

Well, before that, I got up and decided to get Public Square with a drink today. I was very excited for that because I just haven’t been having it as much. Makes it something I look forward to. I also tried to take Sadie out this morning but it was a brief walk since it’s been raining pretty consistently. Anyway, After that I got ready to meet up with Karina. I realized that I had not been back to UTC/La Jolla since before you died, so it was very triggering for me. A lot more triggering than I thought it would be. We tried to meet at a coffee shop, but she had actually work tonight so she was hungry, so we were going to go to great Maple. Well, apparently that place closed, so we went to true food for lunch.

I have always really liked Karina. I have a lot of respect and admiration for her, and the heart that she has for what she does and the people around her. She really helped you through your residency, took you under her wing as much as she could. She has protected you in ways. It was a little hard for me to talk to her about the things that you and I have struggled with, because she just did not know. I think that it was really good to have those conversations with her today, I kind of needed that. I think I have been really struggling with all of the Good and the bad that you and I endured. Sometimes when I think about it, even at a more surface level, it honestly just hurts. It’s hard to explain that pain. Anyway, by the end of it we were talking and I was mentioning how I just naturally feel guilty, I think part of me will always feel like I could’ve done more and that stems from my abandonment issues, but I know that I couldn’t.

I physically, mentally, and emotionally did everything that I could. You were the only one that could save you. I was talking about how in the note you left you told me that you loved me and that you were sorry, and that I was the best thing that ever happened to you in your life. That’s when I started crying. I believe that, and I know that I’m the last person you want to feel guilty. It’s just really hard to process at all.

After we ate and chatted, I drove home and took a quick cat nap/watched some TV. i’ve been trying to be better about sitting with myself, whether that’s even just at home. After a little while, Erika and I figured out where we wanted to go in this rain and went to the Liberty public market that was indoors at Liberty Station. It was really great to see her as always, and I ended up getting some yummy macaroons and pizza! Looks like I will be starting my meal prep tomorrow lol for lunch.

After we hung out, I came back home and watched a little bit more TV. I finally took down most of my Christmas decorations, but I need to go to storage to get the boxes to put them in. I even ordered an ornament box to store things more proper than I have prior. Allegedly.

I think part of the reason I was having a hard time taking all the Christmas stuff down was because it really signified going into a new year without you, and I just really thought I’d have you.

I definitely had some tears today. But I had a lot of smiles and joy too.

I’m allowed to be grateful, but also in absolute grief. I’m allowed to hone in on the good and hunting all the bad. I’m allowed to do whatever I need to do to get better, find peace, and except what happened. I don’t even know if I’ve quite accepted it yet.

I need to get going to bed, I have two go into the office pretty early tomorrow and I have to onboard someone. I have quite a busy week before I head to Lexington again on Saturday.

Tomorrow is six months. I can’t believe that.

I’ve been reading through John 4 and 5 this morning and while there are many note-worthy passages in these two chapters, there is this one verse (John 4:34) that especially stood out to me. You see, in verses 31-33, Jesus’s disciples urge him to eat something and do not understand when Jesus tells them that he has food that is unknown to them. When they still don’t understand, he simplifies it for them. “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.” What stood out to me in that verse was put into the quote in the image here. As usual, we set our minds too much on the moment and the needs and desires that must be satisfied at THAT second. We feel hungry so we eat. We are thirsty so we drink. But how often do we set our minds on the things that will remain with us forever? How often do we come and spend time with the only one who can give us things that will last for more than just a moment? Physical food only satisfies the momentary hunger. Living with Losing You - 12/31/2022

NYE!

And I made it home (YAY...).

Look, I love SD, but it’s underwhelming every time I am back. Fortunately none of my flights were delayed or cancelled on my way home. That was nice. I will say my connection was a close call, but I made it!

I landed in SD and then took a Lyft to my parent’s house to get my car and my dog. Some things were said that I honestly did not appreciate. It’s called reading a room, and often, people are not good at that when they feel the absolute need to get their point across. BUT ANYWAY...

I drove home and then got slightly situated before I started working. Yep, that’s right. Since the lap top situation and the things that came up yesterday, I have to work today. Also though, at least I got PS to get me through it. It’s such a bad habit and a lot of money to get that everyday, but part of me is like fuck it, it makes me happy. I do need to make a resolution to be better about it. Future Madison’s problem. 

So, did some work, and then I started to semi organize again. I was honestly feeling super lazy today. I really did not want to do much. It felt like before I knew it, it was 6pm. Marissa and I made reservations at TrueFood kitchen in Mission Valley for dinner, then we were gonna see where the night took us. I quickly got ready (I was feeling edgy today, I will add some pics on here) and we headed out. Dinner was amazing as always there, and we definitely did a photoshoot at the mall (again, will add some on the end of the blog). After that we did go home to freshen up / so I could let Sadie out, then headed toward downtown. 

Well, that was a poor idea because downtown was a circus. We then decided to go to North Park. Much better idea. Quickly found parking and went into one bar. No cover, which was amazing. A lot of the places downtown were anywhere from $40-$00 plus dollars just to get in. Which, I get, but I’ll take the free entry. We were briefly there, and in that span some guy complimented how my red shoes matched my red lip. I’ll take it lol. He wasn’t wrong. 

We then headed home, I changed into my PJs, and now I need to go to bed. It’s only about 10:30pm, but in my defense I have been up since 1:30am the same timezone. So, this is 28. And I love this for me. 

I wish I was ringing in the new year with you, we never got a new year’s kiss. I was hoping this year was going to be our firsts year. I had a lot of hopes. But, I am grateful for what we had. I also am traumatized by it too. It’s a lot to process and I pray and hope for some sense of peace as I grieve your loss. Love you, butthead. You’ll always be my butthead. I’ll always be yours too. <3
