It’s the middle of the night. Chiron should probably get some sleep. Looking out of his window he sees two boys, they’re stargazing. Achilles! He thinks. Patroclus!
It’s only then that he realises that Patroclus’ skin is way too white and as glorious as Achilles was, he definitely didn’t light up like a glow stick in the night. It’s not them. It’s just Nico and Will.
It’s been over 2000 years, they’re dead, Chiron, they’re dead.

Patroclus: *giggling* You’re my moon.
Achilles: *also giggling* And you’re my star.
Chiron: *tiredly* and you’re both getting on my nerves, go to bed!

A 9-year old Patroclus promised himself he would never kill again. A promise he would hold for many years to follow.
When Patroclus trained with Achilles, he never wished to learn. He didn’t want to know how to cause death, he wanted to forget.
Chiron knew of course. He had trained many warriors before Achilles. He saw the potential in Patroclus early on. But Chiron was also wise, he understood. “You’ll never gain fame from fighting,” he said. Words that were in fact true, because beside Achilles, Patroclus would never be considered a good fighter. But he was, he really was.
Nearly two decades later, Patroclus would break his promise. To protect Achilles, to protect Briseis, to protect his friends. Sure, he paid with his life for it. And he never gained fame from it. But to a slight group of people, he briefly was more of a hero than Achilles ever was.
