KURAK GÜNLER (2022) dir. Emin Alper Emre, a young and dedicated prosecutor, is newly appointed to a small town hit by a water crisis and political scandals. After an initial welcome, he experiences an increasing number of tense interactions and is reluctantly dragged into local politics. If you've never seen this movie, you're in for a treat with its pirated versions of assorted John Barry James Bond cues; 'Superhero', it's bizarre mash-up of Batman, Superman and CC Beck's Captain Marvel; and, of course, the vicious, murderous, skeleton-clad criminal mastermind, KILINK -- a Turkish bootleg of the Italian character, Killing, who is an Italian rip-off of Kriminal, another Italian character. Everything here is a xerox of a xerox. Even this copy of the film which is a dodgy, murky rip with random, bad, jump-cut edits -- which is exactly how movies like this should be watched! Settle in and ENJOY.

HAREMDE DÖRT KADIN (1965) dir. Halit Refiğ Sadik is an ignorant, heir-less, self-indulgent yet religious Ottoman Pasha who lives in a luxurious mansion with his three wives. Mihrengiz, one of the women in his harem, grows attached to the Pasha's nephew, Dr. Cemal. Gülfem, often left in the background, is trying to conceive a child with the help of Rüştü, the Pasha's military-driven nephew, in order to increase her importance in the mansion. Şevkidil (the main wife) is a strong, scheming woman who is capable of managing the mansion and its people on her own, and who is in love with Mihrengiz. Things grow exponentially more complicated once the Pasha announces his wish to take the young and innocent Rusan as his fourth wife. (link in title)
