As the first rays of dawn broke over the horizon, their golden glow fell upon a peculiar scene on the ground: two sims standing above the carcass of a large dragon.

Huddled together, father and daughter were gazing down on the beast lying lifeless at their feet. The sword in the girl's hand, still dripping with blood, gleamed in the morning light. Miraculously, Annika and Gabriel Blackbird had survived their encounter with the Great feral wyvern. Both were alive, albeit not entirely unscathed.

Annika looked up at her dad and tears began to well in her eyes. Gabriel had taken the brunt of the fight, keeping a protection spell around the two of them for the whole duration of it; he might have forgotten to account for himself at one point.

They stood like that for a few more moments. When Annika finally broke the silence, her voice was barely more than a shaky whisper: "Dad... Let's go home."

In an ask you said that there won't be anything more severe than a lobotomy, but that doesn't mean there won't be anything worse, depending on what we consider worse I guess. But I'm still stuck at the lobotomy part and the effects of that. More like the emotional and mental part, since if I'm not mistaken it wasn't rare for patients to kinda lose... their empathy, or like feelings that they had for loved ones. I could be wrong but this thought just keeps bugging me.

Also will you explore the aftermath and healing part after their well, suffering ends? All the effects of what they've been through?

And... what do you exactly consider worse than a lobotomy? Like what type of thing could be worse in your opinion?

While a decrease in empathy can happen- it's just one of the many symptoms of brain damage in general. Because what happens to Donnie, while technically a lobotomy, is basically just very deliberate brain damage. More in line with past lobotomies than current ones. It's very much not a targeted thing and more a, 'let's cause havoc til whatever we don't want to happen doesn't happen anymore!'

In Donnie's case, the area that is the most effected is the region of the brain responsible for speech and language. Of course the brain isn't really separated into sections that aggressively, so some other things will be effected, but that will be the most obvious difference. In fact, it's something you can already see happening if you paid attention in the ninpo space.

However, there are other things going on with Donnie, so be careful with what you identify as a symptom of brain damage.

Loss of empathy was never something we were going to go for, as it's very much... not something we enjoy? As well as something we see as very undermining of his established character. We don't really like the fandom interpretation of a low empathy Donnie, either. We see Donnie as very empathic, he just doesn't show it in a way that a lot of people would recognize. He's very much a fixer.

And while losing empathy could be interesting to explore, it very much conflicts with the themes of Residuum as a whole. So, not something y'all have to worry about ahaha

Aftermath wise... well, that's pretty far off. So my feelings might change, but I've never enjoyed healing narratives. Granted, it's just how other people handle them that I don't enjoy. So, I suppose yes, we would be exploring the consequences, but much of that is already planned in Residuum. Though, not really with a... comfort aspect. Anyway. If a healing arc does happen, it will either be an epilogue, its own comic, or something that co-author would do.

Also, can you really look at what I've done so far and honestly say that I'd be able to write comfort/fluff?

As for what I find worse than a lobotomy... In Residuum, the worst possible thing that could happen to someone, in my opinion, is demutation.

“Tag, you’re it!” Four slaps primaries against Wild’s wing and slides away, grinning. When the magpie doesn’t dip after him, he angles his wings closer. “I got you!”

Wild’s smile is strained, but it’s there. “Sorry, Four, maybe later? I’m just a little worn out from flying.”

Legend glances over his shoulder, wings flapping continuously. Neither of them are made to soar for long distances. “Do you need a break?” he calls back.

“I’m good!” No need for Time to land the flock; he’s quick to call check-ins if someone flags.

Four shrugs and tilts his wings, moving up to join the raptors. Twilight slides over to let him fly between him and Time. Despite his small stature, Four is adept at traveling long distances. Wild’s built his strength up traveling through his Hyrule, but long flights will never feel natural.

Hyrule gives a flock call, marking it with a worried indicator trill. Wild calls back, doing his best to sound chipper. It works because the flock resettles and focuses on flying.

It’s not that Wild is tired—physically, at least. But sometimes his journey catches up to him. It hasn’t been long since he beat the Calamity and met the Chain. Less time since he gained a personal flock indicator with Hyrule and Legend.

Even now, the thought of his two friends has him giving a happier call and response, promptly answered by the other two. It doesn’t mean anything, just an audio check-in. I’m here, it says. So are we , says the answer.

Hyrule starts humming and Wild lets it carry his attention, falling into the instinct of following Legend while his mind drifts.

Their elsen boi's name is Michael. He dualweilds meat cleavers and is a bit of a bastard with em too. We joked it was karma Bandit took a hand, since in Michael's story, he lops off someone's jaw with the knives.

Marcus hadn't gotten a wink of sleep all night.

Him and his father were taking turns searching for Annika, one always staying home in case she came back. Before Gabriel took off that evening, he instructed Marcus to get some rest; but with both his family members absent, Marcus' restless mind wouldn't allow him the luxury of sleep. Not even Dominick's presence could ease his anxiety.

So when he heard the front door creak open, he leapt out of bed like a world-class sprinter, feverishly hoping it meant at least one of them had returned home safely. But the sight before him stopped him cold in his tracks, making him question whether he was asleep after all and trapped in a nightmare.

Annika and Gabriel were both at the door. And they were covered in blood.

Heart constricting in his chest, Marcus rushed to their side. He reached for them, then froze, unsure whom to prioritize; but Annika assured him that she was fine (itsnotmyblood) and that their dad needed the help more.

Flanking him on either side, the siblings managed to get their half-conscious father up the stairs and into bed. Dominick was already on stand-by with a med kit, and immediately began tending to his wounds. As he worked, Marcus hugged his sister tightly, squeezing so hard as if afraid that she might run off again if he let go. A hundred different questions rattled in his head, but none of them were as important as the simple fact that his baby sister was back home.

Yet there was one question that he couldn't shake, one which begged to be asked. Finally releasing his sister from his death grip, Marcus cast a look at Gabriel, then gazed back at her: "Annika... What happened...?"

Transfixed on the image of the limp figure in the bed, she only spared him a weary half-glance. "It's... a long story."

WARNING: EYE CONTACT

I wanted to look into what Wally has stated about being able to see US on the website. I left out anything Clown has said because they're wonderful and have given us so much to look through about the characters that I genuinely dont know if I could look through it all comfortably in one sitting so instead we are going over what I CAN find in one sitting. I'll prolly so a more thorough post once I've looked through everything (Though I'd appreciate if yall could send me all Wally related asks you have found from Clown or if you guys have a mention I missed.)

Now I'll summarise what I've found here for anyone who don't wanna read through a larger post.

What I've found is that Wally just can't see us. He feels our presence but doesn't actually SEE us. He just knows when we are there.

Now into the deeper end. The only times he ever mentions SEEING us is in the Voice Demo Reel (which I'm 99% sure isn't canon) where he states that he sees us when we look in his eyes.

The other time is here.

Which I don't think counts. However i won't rule it out.

Other than these two moments it's stated he CAN'T see us. Example on one of those spooky URLs.

He straight up states he can't see us. (And that if we can see him, to stay quiet. A contradiction to the Demo Reel I mentioned where he tells us basically to not talk until we see him again. Interesting change.)

Instead of seeing us he seems to FEEL us instead as I stated earlier. He feels our presence.

In this Frank GIF (its from the About Us page of the Website) the books read: "HELLO" "It's you know who" "I'm your neighbour" "Do you think about me? You do" "I've felt you"

FELT. In the Secret URL text, he states he knows we are there but he can't see us. I assume then he means he can feel us there.

My running theory is rather than wanting to eat us with them BIG OL EYES, he is staring because he is desperately trying to see us. Because he can feel us there.

People have already theorised that he can't stop smiling because home is always watching him. My theory is that Home is also why he asks us not to speak when we see him, so that HOME doesn't hear us. Home is always watching everyone from its little spot in the middle of town. As seen on the Neighbourhood page on the Website.

Me thinks at the very least, Wally can't see us, but when we look at him, he can feel our eyes on him. He looks at us because he can feel us there. He's so adamant about staring because he can't see us despite knowing we are there.

I hope any of this made sense to yall. Idk

I come to check the blog about once a day just to see if there’s anything new and I saw the update is possibly scheduled for tomorrow and just wanted to share how EXCITED I am and how I’ll have something to look forward to tomorrow! (By no means is this meant to make you feel like you should post more often btw, I just like the excitement of seeing new asks and info posted about the comic or world building and wanted to share, it’s all so much fun!! Keep being great!! 👍👍)

i drew this before i even started drawing the comic. looking at real dead turtles is not somehting i'd like to do again ahahahah. anyway, the giant liver is one of the reasons why donnie didn't pass out right away or whatever. this is really just a reference for myself once we get further into the comic, but we're a ways away from that.

For those of you who don't know, the new song Hozier will be releasing on Friday, Swan upon Leda, is likely a reference to the Greek myth of the Queen Leda of Sparta.

In the myth, the Queen was known to be a very beautiful woman, and because it's a Greek myth and the gods are a bunch of walking red flags, Zeus took the form of a swan and went to visit Leda when she was bathing. I'm sure you can figure out the rest of that encounter, but she later birthed two eggs, one of which hatched Helen of Troy.

A fitting title for the statement he released with the announcement of the song, as well as the charities he will be donating too.

“Link?” The voice is muffled through the wood door. Zelda.

The magpie doesn’t move.

Another knock. “Link? I’m coming in.” The door opens.

Link still doesn’t move. He’s lying on the few blankets in his room that make the sad excuse for a nest. Face down, his face is mashed into one. Each breath is slow.

“Link, are you in your room?” Zelda’s voice gets louder as she comes up the stairs. There’s a shuffle of feet and a soft knock on the bedroom door. “Are you in there?”

He manages a grunt; he’s not up for talking.

On the other side of the door, there’s a soft sigh. “Let me get the key.” She’s one of the few who knows where the extra key is hidden and the lock clicks before it swings open.

Link lays where he is. What’s the point of getting up? She’ll come in anyway.

“Oh, little bird.” There’s an ache in her voice he knows well. “Have you eaten?”
