The night had been one for the books.

Harry became a Grammy winner for the second time within the first 30 minutes of the ceremony, getting the award for Best Pop Vocal Album, and your heart bursted with joy and pride and you watched him collect it.

He also delivered an amazing performance even though he had a stage malfunction that was out of his control, and after a few minutes of pep talk backstage, you convinced him that he should be proud of what he did no matter what.

Nights like tonight made you look back at your journey with Harry, from getting frustrated each year when the Grammys refused to give One Direction a nomination, to consoling him when his debut single Sign of the Times got overlooked and celebrating when they finally ave him his long overdue nomination for Fine Line. And now, being one of the most nominated artists of the night and a winner already.

Harry was not an artist that let awards or numbers define his career at all, but you knew that deep down he appreciated getting a nod and recognition for the hard work he puts into his music.

"What's on your mind, honey?" Harry asked and he noticed that you had been quiet for a few minutes, the show was on a commercial break so you could talk freely.

"Just thinking about how am I getting a picture with Beyoncé before the night ends," you joked, making him laugh along, "I'm also thinking about the bub, do you think she's okay?"

Harry couldn't help but smile at the mention of your daughter. Little baby Styles had been welcomed into the world a year and a half ago, looking like an exact carbon copy of Harry with curls, dimples and charming green eyes.

It's safe to say that she became Harry's entire world from the moment he saw her for the first time.

"I bet she's fast asleep by now after snuggling with mum for hours," you smiled at the thought, "You know she's obsessed with mum."

"She just loves her nana," you almost cooed, "And her Grammy winner daddy, even tho she doesn't have any idea what that means."

"You know," Harry began, and by the look on his face you knew he was up to no good, "She could become obsessed with her bay brother or sister too, if we decided to give her one."

The smirk on Harry's face after his statement was almost devilish, making you look him with wide eyes and a grin on your own.

"Are you asking me for another baby in the middle of the Grammys?" Harry shrugged, the smirk not leaving his face, "You're a menace. But, maybe if you win, I'll think about it."

Before Harry could reply, the lights dimmed signaling that commercial break was over and it was time for more awards, more specifically, the most important award of the night: Album of the Year.

Trevor Noah, the host, talked about the importance and meaning of the award, the fans the production had invited to support the nominees stood beside him in a line.

You could barely focus on what was being said because your eyes were fixed on Harry's hand gripping yours tightly, and you felt like throwing up from nerves if you looked at the stage.

And the Grammy goes to…” Trevor spoke into the mic, making a dramatic pause that felt way too long and made you finally look up no the stage, noticing that he was standing in front of Reina, Harry's fan.

And that was the moment you knew, the Album of the Year was Harry's House.

“It’s you!” both you ans Jeff whisper-yelled in unison, looking at each other with shocked faces and making Harry give you a confused look.

“What do you-” and before he could even finish his sentence his name was being called out and the trumpets from Music for a Sushi Restaurant filled the place.

Harry immediately covered his face in disbelief, shaking his head and taking in in the moment. You couldn't help but stand up and jump in your place, adrenaline and excitement, but mostly pride, running through your veins.

"My love, you won! Harry's House won!" you said into his ear when he finally wrapped his arms around you, pecking the side of yiur head repeatedly before kissing your lips quickly.

"I love you," was all he said before getting rushed into the stage along with his collaborators and friends.

"Shit!" was the first thing that came out of his mouth once he had his Grammy in hand, making everyone laugh, “I mean,shit! I’ve been so, so inspired by every artist in this category with me. At a lot of different times in my life I listen to everyone in this category when I’m alone,” he took a breath,"I think on nights like tonight, it’s obviously so important for us to remember that there is no such thing as best in music. I don’t think any of us sit in the studio thinking, making decisions based on what is gonna get us one of these.”

You stood with your hands clutched to your chest, your eyes filled with happy tears and nothing but love and admiration for him.

"I'd like to thank my mom and my sister for being my biggest supporters and giving me a great childhood, I would be nowhere without you," he paused to look directly at you from the stage, his eyes immediately watering again, "And of course my beautiful wife, YN. Thank you for sharing your beautiful life with me and giving me an amazing daughter who is the reason I do what I do everyday,"

You were unaware of the camera focusing on your and catching the moment you mouthed an 'I love you' to him from your place.

"I love you both so much, you mean the world to me. And YN," he paused, the devilish look from earlier making his way to his face again, along with a teasing raised eyebrow that told you that he was about to do something major, "I want another one."

The entire arena erupted into laughs and cheers, Jeff clapped and whistled from beside you and you couldn't help but cover your face in shock and embarrassment, astonished by Harry's anctics.

"You said, maybe if I won, and I did!" the crowd laughed even more, "I love you, so much. Thank you for this, I'll never forget it."

Harry got off the stage and you met him backstage to congratulate him properly, after a final performance the night came to an end and everyone headed outside the arena to celebrate.

"Do you feel like partying tonight? The label is throwing a celebration but if you feel tired we can skip it," Harry said as you both sat on the back of his Range Rover.

"Honestly, I just want to go home, kiss our baby goodnight and celebrate with my Grammy winner husband in private," you smiled at him teasingly, "Maybe get started on that second baby making."

The smile that appeared on Harry's face after hearing your words was bigger than the one from winning a Grammy.

"Home it is, then."

I normally hate talking about spoilers for Bluelock before the actual release date online but this time, I’m making an exception.

Because as someone who reads the leaked chapters and still buy the weekly magazines on release day to preserve the original chapters (support the authors and artists!!), I am TIRED of the leaked chapter’s missing context and having to explain the actual translation to my friends.

“Then why bother?” <- You have no idea how much has been filtered because either the translator didn’t understand so they made their own, official translator told to keep it clean, or etc etc etc. Fan translation needs to be kept to the original but some of it gets hard to process the context into words. Also how fast these translations are pushed through so there are words missing to explain it right.

I covered Shidou’s original dialogue and how sexual everything he said during the U-20 exhibition match. There’s so many things that should be covered after reading both JP and English (both official and fan release) Screw the censors, if JP is that crazy in dialogue, why are international fans getting watered down, shit dialogue and context?

I’m more than happy to cover it if asked.

潔んちゃく: “Isagi”nchaku. Though it was a pun for isoginchaku (sea anemone) but it’s actually a play on words from koshiginchaku (Normal meaning is a bag carried around the waist. The expressional meaning is someone who follows and won’t leave a person’s side) and changed waist to Isagi.

おさげチビ: Braided runt is right but why not just keep the chibi part? Anyone who has watched anime or read novels and manga would know what chibi means.

So technically Rin’s calling Kurona Isagi’s clingy, braided chibi.

Rin knowing Kurona is basically the heart of Isagi’s passes and sticks to Isagi the entire time of NEL. Rin calling him out for it. I love you Rin but that was uncalled for and the crazy tackle with it

I bet that plus all the struggles of being famous didn't help,” she said, focusing every bit of her attention on you.

• “Your work must've been incredible, gaining that much popularity. Would you like to share some of it with me? I want to see what you wrote about, and your past passion. Even if you don't want to be famous anymore, if you'd like to write, I would love to listen. You can bounce ideas off of me, anything you'd like. And if you'd rather not talk about it, I understand.”

• Leah was more than intrigued by your work, and how you did it. Music was such an interesting craft in her eyes, and she loved it. She was so interested in your stories and your history. She didn't overstep your boundaries though, making sure she didn't ask too many questions. She just listened to you talk, and she enjoyed every second of it. It's her favorite hobby.

• She found her inspiration soon after, eventually ending up sculpting a peace based on your music. You were always her greatest source of inspiration, she mentioned it often. She was so in love with you, every aspect of you is so beautiful and art worthy. Even aspects of your life that you've left behind were gorgeous in her eyes, and she can't wait to see your future by your side.

• Maru was sitting in the floor, working on her newest robotic creation, when you walked in. She was humming a familiar tune, but then it hit you. It was familiar because you wrote it. You let out a gentle laugh, to which she looked a bit confused. She asked you what was funny, and you thought for a moment. Well, she's gonna find out eventually. Might as well tell her.

• You sat down next to her on the floor, casually mentioning that you wrote it. She laughed, smiling over at you. “Ha ha, very funny. That song is just something I heard on the radio, I highly doubt that you wrote it, unless you're some popstar in disguise or something ... wait what?”

• As you told her about your past career, she looked on with a smile. “Wow hon, I never knew you had this side of you. Your career sounds so stressful, no wonder you wanted to come out here. Do you need to vent about anything? You know that I'm here for you, right?”

• She didn't really listen to the music you put out, it wasn't exactly her style, but she would listen to it if you asked. She enjoys listening to you talk about your past career, and likes hearing things that you've learned from the experience. She's especially interested in the technical aspect, what goes on behind the scenes of tours. Lights, sound, mics, all of the backstage stuff.

• However, she wanted to make you feel comfortable and normal, not like some celebrity. She tried her best to treat it as something normal, just another everyday career. Maru cared about you above anything, and was entirely focused on keeping you physically and mentally healthy. She would listen to you vent any day.

• You and Penny were sitting in the forest, watching Vincent and Jas play, having soft conversation. You had asked Penny what her taste in music was, when she started talking about her favorite artists. Most of them were on the less popular, indie music side. However, she bashfully mentioned that she did have one relatively popular artist she listened to. You were not expecting her to mention your name.

• You weren't exactly sure how to bring this to her attention, so with a nervous laugh, you said that it was you. She tilted her head to the side, a little confused. “... Hold on, could you elaborate on that, please? I'm a little confused ...” As you told her your story, how you wanted to get away from the limelight for a little while.

• “Your music has always interested me, I've honestly been following you since the beginning of your career. I know that you probably don't want to talk about that part of your life, since you moved out here to escape it, but I'd love to talk about some of your songs with you. Your lyrics really speak to me,” she would say with a soft smile, warm and welcoming.

• She loves to analyze the lyrics of songs she enjoys, she's certainly a more lyric oriented person. So, when you agreed to sit down with her and explain the stories behind some of her favorite songs, she was enamored. She listened to every word, paying close attention and loving every second of it. She reciprocated with some stories as well, you two had a deep bonding experience through your music.

• You didn't know how much of a fan Penny was, but it was so sweet watching her learn more about you. Seeing how much she cared about your life, every part of it, made you smile. She's the sweetest, and you can't wait to learn just as much about her.

Jane Remover - Census Designated (Long review)

i wrote this after reaching 100 followers on aoty. The AOTY version can be found here if u wanna read it on there.

Hey! Thank you all for your support on my reviews thus far. Bangers2 started out as an impulsive Tumblr blog where I'd post a song a day, but that got stale pretty quickly so I ended up on AOTY. And it was scary at first (I once got flamed by like 3 people for making an "I hardly know her" joke...that was nice) but I think in the past couple months I've sort of found a community over here. The album that REALLY got me into music spaces and encouraged me to start sharing my opinions / analyses was this one!

Census Designated (or Census/CD, as I'll probably refer to it throughout this review) has been pivotal to my life since before it came out. I first discovered Jane through her feature on underscores' Wallsocket (an album which I'll probably review in more detail soon), where I instantly fell in love with her vocals. I checked out the title track about a week after it dropped and thought it was so fresh. There was a unique sort of pain to the song which really resonated with me at the time, and I kept it on loop for weeks. I was so damn lonely and depressed from October to like...February, and found a lot of solace in Census, especially "Holding a Leech," my personal SOTY of 2023. For the first time in my life I tried to get mental health support, and this album made communicating my feelings and circumstances a lot easier. It gave a voice to what I'd kept buried all my life.

On the other side of all the shit I went through, I still listen to this album a lot. Sure, it takes me back to some of the worst times in my life, but the genius of the production and songwriting is undeniable. I can’t stop coming back to it, even though it breaks my heart. I truly and genuinely believe that Census Designated is a masterpiece.

Census Designated is the sophomore album by Jane Remover, an artist who got her start making electronic music (Frailty, Dariacore, etc.). However, Census is a straight-up rock album, with loud guitars and harsh walls of noise. The lyrics are just as harsh as the production, with fictional stories of abusive relationships, violence, and a lot of body horror. With that being said, despite how much I love Census, I wouldn’t recommend this album to anybody…unless they’re in the right headspace for it. If you go in expecting “Frailty 2,” you will come out with ear fatigue and a hefty dose of nightmare fuel.

WITH THAT BEING SAID. The harshness of the album - all of its jarring static and blood-curdling screaming - is balanced by incredibly catchy melodies and a lot of introspection. Jane’s vocals are really great - a huge improvement since Frailty and even the venturing tracks. She has an incredibly smooth voice, and I can tell she’s influenced by a lot of pop vocalists like Ariana. I'm a vocal technique nerd. I bet SHE's so lucky to have a voice like that.

Vocals aside, I love the instrumentations on here too! She uses the harsh noise and heavy guitars to further the turmoil in each track. They’re all explosive songs, starting out quite calm and eventually building up to a huge release towards the end. It works out really well; on songs like “Holding a Leech,” you can feel the slight numbness in her voice on the first chorus turn into loud, unimaginable desperation by the end of the song, as she chokes out “how much longer ‘till I’m truly alone?”

ALSO!! The lyrics are SO good. She's said in interviews that none of what she talks about really happened to her, they're just abstractions of feelings she had been having. I think her way of articulating these feelings is so evocative. You can't take anything here at face value, so you really have to Analyze for the lyrics to make sense. Even without reading them over and over, I feel like, for me personally, there was a clear feeling that each line evoked, and it's so cool how open ended so much of it is. My favourite lyrics are on the title track, which is fuelled with so much anger and pain that it's sort of overwhelming. Jane said the song is about the music industry and how it takes advantage of young artists. Despite not relating to that at all, I ~felt~ a lot of what she was saying, and saw myself in a lot of it.

Census Designated feels like a cautionary tale; a story of the absolute worst case scenario. Nightmare after nightmare. Boiling water being poured on hands. Jaws being broken. Cars being crashed. Desperation. Begging for forgiveness. Throwing up. Waking up feeling fine, despite it all. In the absence of the physical pain, there lies a pit in my stomach as I listen to these songs. A sense of uneasiness. A deep, unexplainable sorrow.

This album will not save your life. Not like Nurture or Sweetener or any of those albums where you come out of it feeling like everything will be okay. No, this is an album that is harrowing. So intensely horrifying, that you might start to recognize that something is wrong if you resonate with it. And there's something so important about that. I can't say that Census Designated /saved/ my life; but it did change it. And for that, it's become one of my favourite albums of all time.

he knows you’re not very proud or loud of your work so he starts asking about your major but very gradually since he realizes he feels guilty for not having known enough before

soobin doesn’t want to make anything very sudden when it comes to showing u support and praise but u bet he’s always there when it comes to having ur art up at exhibits or at conventions to sell ur stuff, but gradually he brings you bouquets of flowers that get bigger and bigger and at some point u use up the flowers he gives u to make a display to show him the love he gives you but in a visual that makes him straight up BAWL but anyway

you always end ur explanations with “yeah but it’s nothing exciting” even to this day when he catches you in the middle of doing an assignment or anything on your ipad or on a canvas or in your sketch book

he’ll let you play with his switch that’s covered with stickers of your art btw

you and kai will take turns using the coloring book for stress relief that’s on your ipad, whenever you do it, kai has his head perched on your shoulder and when you watch him do it, your cheek is on his bicep and sometimes he’ll choose to do a long one so you can nap off the stress

gives u a quick kiss but sometimes he presses too hard and it jolts u up and knocks u awake which startles him and his cheekies get red

Heyo! Any advice on struggling to get your art seen in the world? I feel like no matter how much I post, or what I post, people never see it or seem to like it. I love art and am pursuing it as a career (hence why Im getting a degree in it currently lmao) but its kind of disheartening to work really hard on something, post it, and no one sees it.

oh, man. i'm afraid for this one i don't feel like i have a lot of solid advice. having a large-ish following online feels like something that kind of just, like, Happened to me, mostly on accident/in ways outside of my control, and even if i had some ideas on how to potentially replicate those gains i don't think they'd work consistently. (also, a lot of my large jumps in follower count came from mental health related work going viral bc it's #relatable; this is something i have complicated feelings about and it's absolutely not a viable, like, "strategy" or something that i would recommend, in the way that ppl can say like, "fanart gets attention!" or stuff like that.)

so, i don't have advice for how to actually GET those eyes on your art; i can maybe help with making ppl more likely to STAY once they do find you, and how to build a following that will actually help you maintain a living from your work -- bc i have TONS of peers w a following a fraction of the size of mine who get more jobs than me, are doing cooler/more "professional" stuff than me, etc! (heads up that most of my experience is on twitter; i know less than nothing about places like instagram + tiktok, and while tumblr functions very differently from twitter i feel like i handle things mostly the same here, aside from doing less personal posting/being less talkative and not 'networking' or following many people).

SCROLLING BACK UP TO ADD A SPOILER ALERT: AS ALWAYS I HAVE SAID "HAHA IDK I DON'T REALLY HAVE ANY ADVICE" AND THEN PROCEEDED TO TYPE A FULL ESSAY. IF YOU ARE ON DESKTOP YOU CAN HIT THE 'J' KEY TO SKIP THIS POST. IF YOU'RE ON MOBILE, I'M SORRY

a very important thing, especially professionally: it HAS to be easy to see what you do. (this is easier here on tumblr, where u can have a designated art tag etc, than on twitter, which is an awful website that sucks. <- guy who makes all his money on twitter) this means, like -- if i see something from you and get curious and click your profile, it should only take one more click to quickly see at least SOME of your art. on a professional account, it's probably best for your icon to be your own work, something snappy and memorable and eye-catching that reads well at a small size; people shouldn't have to dig for 20 minutes before they can start browsing your art. on twitter, this means TRY not to gunk up your media tab with a ton of reaction images/screencaps of your gacha pulls/etc; on here, it means make your art tag easy to find; on any website, a portfolio link, prominently displayed, is the best bet. (i am still working on that one myself lmao and i've been working professionally full time for a few years now so like, there are outliers and wiggle room on all of this).

next! it's great when your audience finds you, but you have to find them, too. find artists who do similar stuff to you and get into their stuff -- sincerely, not just as "networking." (like only do this with ppl whose stuff you actually think is cool, not just trying to get in mutuals with everyone you see in hopes of a bump, obviously.) get interested in other indie artists, find the people who are working/publishing in the spaces that are exciting and aspirational for you, and support them! i don't want it to sound cynical when i say there's a kind of give-and-take built into this; the point is not "well, if i reblog/retweet a bunch of YOUR stuff, maybe you'll feel obligated to boost mine in return," but that when you find other artists/creatives who are on the same wavelength as you, you will naturally stumble into pools of people who want to support art like yours, and you and your newfound peers will help each other when you hype each other's stuff up and direct followers to each other! (again re: things going differently on dif websites: this is twitter-specific for me, bc i use my tumblr as a gallery/portfolio. that doesn't mean it doesn't happen here tho! it can and does happen everywhere!)

it is really not a competition. i know that SOMETIMES it is in like, a really nitty-gritty numbers sense; people only have so much money to spare, they will make choices about whose patreon they can afford/what comic to buy/etc, that's true. but to me that's not competition. people who are sincerely into your stuff will hang on until they can afford it; maybe that means someone follows you for two whole years before the planets align and they have the budget/opportunity to commission you. by hanging out in similar circles you are not taking potential business or opportunities away from anyone else, nor are you risking leading your own audience to Someone They'll Like Better; you're just offering more options, and the internet is VAST and endless, and EVENTUALLY people will show up who are into YOUR STUFF, SPECIFICALLY. helping each other is never going to stifle or delay that!!

and my final chunk of advice is the one i give constantly that everyone is probably super sick of hearing but i just seriously seriously believe in it, even tho i know it's slow to pay off and hard to follow: keep doing exactly what you want to. keep doing it!!! you have to!!! yes, i mean the stuff that's getting like, 2 likes and 0 reblogs! the stuff that 'nobody likes!'

earlier i mentioned i have gotten big follower bumps from like adhd comics and stuff like that going viral. the thing is that, from a professional standpoint: my follower count has like, more than quintupled from where it was at a few years ago; my patreon income has absolutely NOT quintupled lmfao. it has less than doubled, over that same period of like... i wanna say over 4 years. that's still good, i'm grateful for it, and i owe a lot of it to the sheer numbers game (the more ppl see ur work, the more likely it is you'll reach someone who decides to support you), but there is absolutely not an actual direct correlation between numbers and career success/stability.

where there IS a direct correlation is between "people who give a shit about the art i really truly love making" and "people who like my art enough to support me professionally." HUGE chunks of the followers i get any time something goes viral slough off over time; there's nothing wrong with that, they just follow me bc something was funny/interesting and end up realizing my work's not actually their thing. but the ppl who follow me bc they're into all the stuff i post most consistently, the stuff i care about and am passionate about, stick around. and i would not have found them if i wasn't posting the shit i care about!

out there there are people who will be 100% crazy about the stuff that is 100% what you want to make. it's like actually statistically impossible for there not to be. the more niche your thing is, the longer it will take to find them, but they absolutely exist. but if you give up before you find them -- if you start saying, "well, i'll put in 50% of this idea that i love, but the other 50% is too weird and nobody's gonna like it and it'll flop" -- well, in that case, you can only ever find the ppl who are 50% into what you do. don't fuck yourself like that!! you cannot deny yourself the possibility (the INEVITABILITY!!! IMO!!!!!) of finding the people who will 100% get what you're doing.

so: on a pragmatic level, i'm sure there will be ppl who disagree with me on this, and who think it's absolutely mandatory to do fanart as a crowd draw or learn about algorithms and posting times and get on tiktok and do the visibility grind and everything and that it's stupid and irresponsible to tell people not to. i'm sure it's also easy to point out that i'm speaking from a place where i now have more eyes on my stuff than i know what to fucking do with so maybe i'm just totally out of touch and being naive or something. but for me the most important part of doing art now, ESPECIALLY as a career, is to keep loving it and to believe in what i'm doing and to build an audience that cares about the same things i do. and i think it is really really vital to make that your top priority. bc if you don't, then even if you DO crack the code to suddenly getting tons of notes on everything etc -- will you even keep wanting to do it?

this job is hard. it's lonely, in my experience; i spend so much time sitting in front of my computer alone. it's unstable, which is stressful and can be frightening. it's emotionally taxing, for me, because art is so important to me that it's hard to set boundaries and separate my identity from it and actually treat it like a job. it has taken me a long time to find success doing this; maybe i could have gotten there faster if i had tried to find ways to draw an audience specifically, but i think if i had somehow managed to get a big patreon following/tons of commissioners/etc by doing something formulaic or doing stuff that specifically gets tons of attention, but isn't what's natural for me -- i don't think i would have lasted very long that way. this is already hard and complicated enough; i don't think it's sustainable to give up any unnecessary ground on doing exactly what you're passionate about, bc at least in my case, that's mandatory for this even being a livable career for me. i would burn out and decide to do something else very quickly if the only way to succeed was to chase numbers/engagement.

doing it this way is very slow. if i hadn't been able to lean on family/my wife while starting up, i would have had to have a day job for much longer (like, years, probably) while saving up and preparing to go full time; for as long as you struggle to get traction, it may mean going full time has to be on the backburner. but the thing is that there's nothing wrong with that, it's the reality for the vast majority of us (from what i've seen) -- and you'll eventually build a career that can last way longer, i think.

I know what you mean having a lot of animals and them being a big responsibility. The animals I grew up with, my mother just happen to take in because they were strays and she’s always had a soft spot for animals but having had so many for years I think she realizes how expensive they can be and they quite literally keep you poor with all the vet bills and food costs and forget it when they get attacked by other animals it’s devastating financially and emotionally. You have such a good kind heart to put up with that all and I bet you don’t even mind because you love your animals so much. I know you also cannot just part with them either because that is also very difficult. I wish you a lot of luck! The best thing you can do for your babies is hustle hard at a job and get that bread to support them! Anyways When it gets hard It rly srsly does leave u devastated & helpless and . so much money LOL I am rly fortunate i’ve been able to afford what I can so far , idk if ppl generally understand how expensive just the food alone is for certain animals? Especially PEACOCKS n DUCKS ;-; god lol. i rlyly wish it didn’t have to come down 2 money . my modern au hc for scara & ei has always been tht she was a working single mom of two and nvr had time to put twds her kids (and she nvr received luv from her own mother so she has a lot of trouble giving what she nvr got). she probably had a very “hands off” approach to parenting, thinking it was better if she wasnt as involved bc she didnt want to “ruin” anything w/her interference, but it kind of manifested as neglect & a very distant parent-child relationship. she doesnt know much about him at all and scara thinks she doesnt care at all (she does care, she just doesn’t know how to properly express it). and while his younger sister, raiden, stonewalls to protect herself (bc, through scara, she sees what happens if u DO care/set those expectations for their mother), scara doesn’t and just gets hurt over and over by that perceived lack of interest in his life. i also think ei’s also very down-to-earth and practical, so when scara starts expressing a love for the arts (in his last yrs of high school + starts applying to colleges) she tries to steer him away and into a stereotypical money making career (doctor, businessman, computer scientist, etc.). he goes to school for art against her advice, and their relationship is very tense till this day. i think modern au scara understands on some level that this is an intergenerational trauma thing and not malicious intent on her behalf, but he cant help but feel wronged. ykyk. like why couldnt ei be supportive, proud? why can’t she tell him she loves him? 😞💔 anyway in his adulthood i bet he’s a successful artist ... maybe a scholar of the arts (art history major in college? maybe goes to a trade school for something) and dabbles in making his own on the side. maybe sculpting or pottery... jewelry making possibly. i think he’d know how to do a lot of things with his hands. i bet he knows how to sew or embroider, detailed finger painting... charcoal... he just works with a lot of mediums. probably sells his work or has his art displayed in a gallery every once in awhile. doesn’t tell anyone ever, though. he’s too shy to show his art to people he’s close to (he never EVER wants to show ei. it wld hurt too much if she was unimpressed w his work, but i think she definitely peruses his works without him knowing on online galleries or news articles. she reads academic papers he posts, etc.. silent, proud from afar, achingly unsure how to connect).

For Broken Ears- Tems

Tems is an artist born in Nigeria who only in this decade has won 5 BET awards, 3 African Music Awards, 1 Grammy, 2 IHeart Radio’s Music Choice Awards, has been nominated for an Oscars, Golden Globe, and several MTV awards all in four years. How did this Lagos-based artist take over the American music scene, though? When you listen to the passion and emotion in her debut EP, For Broken Ears. Released on September 25th (my birthday, so you know it's good), her music is meant to be felt in anyone's heart and to heal in anyone's soul. The title, For Broken Ears, is intended to reset anyone's mind and clean it like a musical baptism.

We start off the EP with Interference, a song that showcases the full range of Tems' vocal abilities. Her beautiful, touching vocals and heavenly melodies set this song apart from most Afro beats, even without the traditional drums. The gorgeous piano, reminiscent of a harp at Heaven Gate, combined with Tems' soothing vocals, leaves you eagerly anticipating what's next.

The next song off the EP is Ice T. This is actually one of Tems' oldest songs, produced while she was at University in South Africa. It harks back to the classic afrobeat sound, with a simple yet satisfying synth and a bouncy beat, all perfectly complemented by Tems' voice. The song, originally a freestyle, is a relaxing, carefree tune that eases away stress and soothes the mind.

The third and arguably most important song on this project is Free Mind. Peaking at 46 on the Billboard Hot 100, this platinum song pushed Tems into stardom. The groovy beat and jumpy drums also add the touching vocals and lyricism Tems is known for. This song is a combination of Ice T and Interference. Talking about her struggles and fighting for her life, whether in life or her head, she talks about needing a space to heal. The price of peace of mind is too expensive for any dollar.

The next song is an interlude Témìládè Interlude. The person speaking in this is unconfirmed by Tems, but some may believe it is her mother. I believe it is her agent or just someone at a record label company. I think this because it is known her mother greatly disapproved of Tems’s music career, so it's unlikely that she would be a big supporter early on. More likely some agent trying to get her signed in Lagos. Regardless this interlude is another story of her overcoming her challenges.

Higher is my personal favorite song on this album. A song that hit Gold and was actually used by Future in his now second-most-popular song WAIT FOR U, this song awarded her first number-one on the Billboard Hot 100. Just like Free Mind, which has a unique mix of Afro beats, she blesses this song with her singing. This song is about healing from a broken relationship and connecting yourself back with your peace and more specifically to her, God. This song lets you and reminds you of which is more important, your health or the health of others. The lyrics are not meant to be listened to but to be sung along with. 

Damages her sixth song is going all the way back to its afro roots with a Wiz-Kid/Rema/Koffee beat. This song is a celebration song of successful healing. This song speaks about how she overcame her challenges and her escape from a toxic relationship. Now instead of celebrating by partying, she is celebrating but doing what she loves and by getting her life on the right track. This song is a commemoration.

Last but not least, The Key. With the gracious whistles, classic afro drums, and Tems's unique voice this creates a very appealing and heartwarming ending to the album. This song is a reflection. Seeing where she has come from but, more importantly, seeing how many people were in the same situation as her. This song is a religious blessing, telling us to pick and keep ourselves up. Giving us a blueprint and telling us that the key to changing our situation is within us and to never be afraid to ask for help.

All in all, the album's themes of rebirth, baptism, and struggle and the progression are clear, and I hope this analysis made it even more apparent. This album has moved the hearts and minds of many and has been an inspiration for many more, and this album put you among that group.
