"If you'd shut up I'll explain. It started that night at the club." you started. "We should have never gone." Kalina but in. "Kalina! Please!" you pleaded with her to shut up. I call you back later." you told her. Hanging up before she could protest. Leaving your phone on the charger near the bed.

5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?

only if i have something to say, i don't really like replying just to say thank you. idk it feels like i'm trying to boost my comment count :| not that i judge people who do do that i just don't

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

probably The Fallen Oak? the ending is supposed to be somewhat optimistic but it is about grief and letting go so...yeah

7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

maybe Home and Heart? that was just a two-shot but the whole thing was basically straight fluff so the ending was very happy. how the hell would you write boffins angst anyways. don't answer that

8. do you get hate on any fics?

christ i've gotten way too many transphobic comments on Playing the Hero. i got this one really spiteful comment and peeked at their profile and it was someone who had written a ton of fics themselves. like if you're a loser with an empty profile and you leave hateful comments i kind of get it but if you're also a writer like...why would you do that...

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

i write a lot of fusion fics but i guess the closest thing i've gotten to a crossover was Embers. Thorin enters the world of The Witcher to train for fighting dragons, etc etc. very self indulgent, boy playing with action figures premise but people seemed to enjoy it

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

i actually still have the screenshots, i stumbled across this one hobbit fic way back when that was this weird frankenstein piece of cobbled together bits stolen from a bunch of different authors. i was just casually reading it and then i was like "what the fuck this is so similar to the first chapter of Feangren..." anyway the author got a lot of hate and deleted the story

ugh i mean i don't think anything will ever hit like bagginshield. i know i don't write for it anymore but it still feels like home a little

stop there are so many and i'm so embarrassed. if i had the motivation i would rework the plot for Children of the Apocalypse and try to finish it. i feel bad because it is a sequel and at one point i was really pumped to write it but just. the moment has passed

16. what are your writing strengths?

i think i do pretty well with like a sprinkling of humor. i can't do straight up crackfics anymore. maybe plot too?

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

probably finishing fics i've been getting better but sometimes i struggle to write long chapters. like i have to stretch to hit 3k.

18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i feel like it only works if you know the language or if you just use short phrases

legend of zelda. in my composition notebook in third grade lmao

it's hard to choose but i have a soft spot for Where Heroes Lie. very self indulgent but it has such a fun mix of action, humor, angst, shlock. feat. my only OC that has healthy parental relationships.

as per usual that list is too long for this post so here's my 2023 fic roundup

2. Work you are most proud of (and why):

far and away it has to be before i bury you purely because it was 1. SUCH an endeavor to begin with, and 2. so unbelievably different from anything i've written before. like, the criminal minds au was me dipping my toe into the pool of horror/suspense, and this fic was diving in headfirst. and i know it's not everyone's cup of tea (or most people's, tbh) but i've been so pleased with the reactions of those who have read it and i'm so, so thankful for it 💛 (honorable mentions to always have & i always will and a tender age, tho)

3. Work you are least proud of (and why):

it's not that i'm not proud of it but a fic that's been hanging over my head all year is if the fates allow because god i hate that it's almost been a year since i updated it and I'VE BEEN TRYING to work on it but my brain just refuses to focus on it! i'm really hoping to finish it soon, though (and the gd pirate au too UGH).

6. A time when writing was really, really hard:

there's been a few instances of that over the last year but no specific events immediately come to mind. it seems to come and go in waves for me and all i can do is just ride it out and hope my inspiration comes back.

7. A scene or character that you wrote that surprised you:

ok like i swear to god i never thought i would write omegaverse and yet a tender age happened and it basically came pouring out of me and onto the page so like?? what the hell was that??? (also no i have not forgotten i promised a sequel, it's percolating i promise)

8. How did you grow as a writer this year:

i tried new genres!! i really enjoyed the writing process!! (even if it made me absolutely insane at times)

9. How do you hope to grow next year:

i've said this a billion times before but i think next year i want to try writing original stuff alongside fic. idk if i'll finish a whole novel or what, but i'd at least like to start something.

10. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc):

11. Anything in your real life show up in your writing this year:

not that i can think of but i did actually let my sister read some of my stuff and she told me that i have a lot of ust in my writing and (yes this is weird but she's my sister and i know she means well) that she wished i had an outlet for it irl so like. i guess that's something?

when did you watch bad buddy/join the fandom?

episode 5 was trending on here and a mutual who abandoned tumblr almost completely suddenly came back to reblog like 15 rooftop kiss gifsets in a row, scream in tags and then disappear again which made me go huh. what's all this then. lemme check out the first episode. and then by the time episode 6 aired a few days later i'd been already all caught up (can't remember exactly but since i have a tendency towards binge-watching i have a suspicion i watched all five episodes nearly in one sitting). for some personal reasons i'd rather not get into i never got a chance to create anything back then when it was airing and after, and so here i am finally joining the fandom more than a year later!

episode 8 balcony scene my beloved. inkpa darkroom confession scene and the way love's voice was trembling as she was on the verge of crying. also that bit in episode 11 where pat wakes up alone, goes out and sees pran playing the guitar outside and pran turns to greet him and SMILES SO SO BIG ugh my heart is doing somersaults as i'm typing this

There's no accounting for quality here 😅 these are just my seven go-to movies, in alphabetical order. I watch them all probably at least once a year.

Cinderella (1997) - Whitney Houston as fairy godmother? Check. Black queen, white king, and Asian prince? Check. Cinderella with a backbone and agency? Check. This is my all-time favorite Cinderella retelling, and this exchange sums up why perfectly:

Cinderella: I doubt he has any idea how a girl should be treated. The Prince: Like a princess, I suppose. Cinderella: No, like a person, with kindness and respect.

The Fugitive - Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones in a cat-and-mouse thriller? Yes, please. I've watched this movie more times than I can count, and it's just as good every time (I could go on and on and ON but I'll spare you the deets).

The Last Five Years - beautiful, depressing, nonlinear storytelling, and completely underrated. Ugh, this musical has it ALL. And to top it off, they filmed the whole thing in three weeks with almost all live singing. Ughhhhhh, so good. Makes me tear up every time.

Mulan - Is this not self-explanatory? Badass woman travels from home and proceeds to do badass things. I adore this movie with all of my heart.

My Neighbor Totoro - Two sisters navigate everyday life while their mother's sick in the hospital. This movie captures the true meaning of "enchanting." Gorgeous, whimsical, yet somehow heartrending, too. Not to mention it's one of my all-time favorite soundtracks.

Sahara - This movie is wild from start to finish. Are the action sequences realistic? No. Is it an absolutely bonkers plot? Yes. Are Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz hot as hell and kicking major ass? Yes times 1000. It's just plain FUN.

#7 is both Pride and Prejudices (BBC and 2005 version) because I can't choose between them. The 2005 version is beautifully shot (and the HAND CLENCH MY GOD), but the BBC version understands Austen's social snark on another level. Honorable mentions go to the Bollywood Bride and Prejudice musical version, which is a wild ride in and of itself.

What fandoms do you write for? CW Flash is my constant, but I'm also writing dnd fic for my friends. TBH the only fandom I used to write that I refuse to write for anymore is HP.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? 99 percent of the time, yes. I love responding to comments and acknowledging the time they spend with my stories. Sometimes I get overwhelmed though, so I do a purge of unanswered comments every once in a while. I'm sorry! /o\

What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Uhhh. I mean, I write so much angst. IDK, probably one of my earlier works. Requiem (Gundam Wing MCD) maybe?

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? As I've gotten older, I've definitely skewed more toward happy endings. Probably my JLA Hijinks (The Flash/DCU, Coldflash) series. That's just a a ton of happy endings for Barry and Leonard!

Do you get hate on your fic? I've gotten the occasional rude comment, but never any actual hate.

Do you write smut? I do, and I complain about it incessantly until I'm done!

Do you write crossovers? Normally, I don't. I have, however, written an unfinished Cheri Majors/Aisha al'Fadil pi0ece with @saekhwa

What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Ugh, probably The Narrow Way (SPN, Dean/Castiel) I started it as a nano project, but then canon went too far past me and I never touched it again. I could probably go back and work on it again. It would be interesting to see how my writing has changed.

What’s your writing strengths? I'm really good at keeping complicated timelines separate, I think. Body language is another that I've worked hard at.

What’s your writing weaknesses? I'm not allowed to say 'everything else', am I? I don't know, tbh. I have really low self esteem and don't think I'm strong at much. Can I crowdsource this answer? ;_;

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I don't particularly care about having to translate another language to figure it out when I'm reading, but I've grown away from writing it like that.

Favourite fic you’ve ever written? I will forever and always have a weak spot for Here Mid the Ash Trees (Violent Messiahs) I wrote it at a time that it filled a void for me, and I will always think of it fondly.

someone tagged it like, complaining UGH CAN'T BELIEVE WE LITERALLY HAVE TO EXPLAIN CRITICAL THEORY FOR PEOPLE TO GET IT and I regret to inform you. yeah dude. when somebody doesn't understand a thing sometimes this is because somebody needs to explain it.

none of us are born with the complete works of 20th century literary theory embedded in our brain. all of us have to learn through having ideas explained to us, whether by teachers or by the writings of other theorists (and. again. academic reading is a skill that has to be developed.)

a lot of people on this website are like 14. a lot of people on this website have not had an academic education past high school. a lot of people on this website have devoted their time and energy to different skills. I grew up on a steady diet of academic art criticism and I still didn't read anything to do with gaze theory or death of the author until I was in undergrad. not because I was stupid or anti-intellectual or incurious but literally just because in all the stuff I was finding it hadn't happened to cross my path yet.

it doesn't mean there's no problem with throwing around terminology and ideas wrong bc you don't understand them, but if that's happening somebody needs to at least try to explain why that's wrong. I'm a big believer in not using terms if youre not sure if their meaning, but you don't know what you don't know, and somebody yelling at you won't help you understand where you've gone wrong

idk while "fuck you I won't do Learning, Learning is a tool of Bourgeois Oppression" is a worryingly potent type of anti-intellectualism at the moment, I honestly think "pfffft why would we need to explain this is only an 8 page essay it's only a 25 page manifesto can you believe this 12 year old hasn't read Capitalist Realism yet what a fool. what an absolute rube." is one of the attitudes doing the most harm to education and understanding.

like fuck me man can we respect that there are specific skills involved in reading, understanding, applying and communicating theory? if you've got these skills that's fantastic! try valuing the work you put in to get those skills and understand not everybody has had the opportunity, resource, time or inclination to get there yet, and if you would like more people to have those skills and understanding you have to recognise where support and teaching and encouragement would be useful instead of sneering from your high horse.

and like yeah it's not always your responsibility specifically to teach. and sometimes people do just choose to ignore available information. some folk straight up don't want to learn and are proud not to. but that surely just means we should appreciate when people are looking for an explanation and trying to understand.

A/N: y'all, my knowledge about this character is non-existent so forgive me if I ever had any information wrong, or completely wrong. never correct I'm sure... also I wanted this fic to be gender neutral so please point out to me if there are mistakes, in this context and grammar-wise too!

[whoever guesses who this character is can tell me what they want next to be published by me! (lmao I'm acting as if I'm well-known) like they can tell me who the character/s will be in the fic, genre, some tags, things to not include, etc. I can write other fandoms... I think, but I don't generally watch most animes like MHA or JJK but I might manage..? but for games like OM! or twst, I can...! kinda,,] [still open, will edit this if it changes later on!]

the moon greets the man who is looking up at it, its majestic form putting pressure on him. he was about to stand up and reluctantly leave his lover when she muttered.

"ugh, what.. time is it?" you groaned, feeling the bed dip and soft lips on your forehead.

"it's not near daybreak, go back to sleep."

"where are you going then?"

he looked at you with his gentle smile, the one where you know he'll fascinate you until you heed his wishes.

"i'm just going out for some fresh air," he simply stated.

he was brushing your hair, detangling and smoothing it down, which ultimately makes you in a trance between reality and dreamland. the latter is the winning side.

as a last resort, you threw your body at his, "you'll go off somewhere again, stay with me."

"but I am with you. you are my lover, my sweet."

"oh stop. stay with me. in bed."

you felt him softly sigh and surrendered. he fixed your sleeping position so he can put his arms around your frail body.

silence reigned, and when he heard your soft snores, he whispered, "... i'm sorry, my dear. i'm so sorry."

tears ran down his face, but he made sure they never touch your complexion. he doesn't deserve it, doesn't deserve tainting you, even with his tears – doesn't deserve you. his heart and soul ached for you.

he stopped when he felt a hand touch his wet cheek.

"why are you crying? who hurt my sweetheart?" you mumbled through closed eyes, still rubbing your hand on his cheek.

"it's just the water, dear. my hair is acting up again."

you started to open your eyes to see if what he said was true, but he put a hand over your vision.

"i, i am not attractive right now. please, have sweet dreams," he glided his hand over your forehead which made you close your eyes and instantly sleep.

he made sure you are in deep sleep until tomorrow when he is sure he will get the job done. time for revenge.

he got up and went out of their dwelling, meeting his friend who he called upon.

amber eyes stared at him when he saw him, "are you sure? you do know that i can't, and won't, help you."

"yes, if it is for them, i am willing to face everything. even when going against you," he looked at the steely man in front of him.

"... have no worries, i will not meddle in your retaliation. the time is near, get going. i will stay back, as promised, to take care of them until you get back."

your lover nodded, thankful for his friend's consideration, "thank you, i will be eternally grateful to you. excuse me."

both men nodded at each other, the elegant one going out to his adversary and the man with amber eyes going to you, who is slumbering incredibly deeply.

"my dear, forgive me. i love you to the moon and back, let Celestia go to hell for all i care," thunder rumbled through the night skies, as if hearing his declaration of battle.

he teleported to the entrance of this damned nation, and instead of a knock on the door, he raised his hand and let a severe flood wreak havoc upon everyone.

why would he care if innocents die? why would he care if people curse him to death? why would he care if he would die?

why?

they never cared even when you were innocent. they never cared when you were just framed so obviously, but they threw you down until your wings got torn and bloody. they never cared about you.

that should change now.

they will know of your dignified self. oh so regal and majestic, no one should even set their sights upon you – not even his own.

his gaze burned with the thought of you, itching to be within your delicate embrace and alleviating aura, but he used this fire to intensify the torrent silencing the screams of the citizens.

daybreak is near, and he should be done with the first step in his plan before it. with this, he moved on to the grand fortress with hatred in his heart.

"i have to hurry, they might wake up without me nuzzling their neck," he smiled maniacally while summoning his hydro serpents to aid him in this gratifying massacre.

Brother bear literally was the Disney movie you only ever saw during a disappointing visit to your friend's house for me, as was brother bear 2, which I saw first I think. The other one was a goofy movie but looking back i was only disappointed bc I was scandalized that core Disney characters ie goofy were capable of having children and having deep emotional feelings, and also I was worried that I'd turn out to be a little shit when I got older like max. Idk how I feel about it now

I'm the worst animator in the world because I've never seen A Goofy Movie, so I have no opinion. Generally I trust that it must have been alright, since most people my age seem to have extremely fond memories of it, but not having seen it I can't offer any insight. Maybe I'll watch it this week, since I seem to be on a kick what with the poll and people wanting to know my opinion on stuff (for some reason?).

As for Brother Bear though, I will not be rewatching that one. My brother is 4 years younger than me and has the 'tism worse than I do, and it was one of his comfort films. I've probably seen Brother Bear 50 times or better. I don't need to watch that one again.

There are things about Brother Bear that are. Acceptable. The animation is nice. I really like that when we see the bears from the humans' perspective they have the dull wild animal eyes, and its only when Kenai transforms that they gain the expressive Disney Animal eyes instead.

I really just. (Statement that will get me assassinated incoming in 3, 2, 1...) I don't care for Phil Collins's work on any of the Disney films. I can barely stand the man's music when it *isn't* incessantly demanding my attention in a film montage.

The bastard sneaks up on you! You'll be settling in to enjoy a nice scene transition, maybe thinking about how much you like the interplay between the two main characters, and then the vamp will start up... Slow at first. Under the dialogue. Innocently strumming along. Maybe you didn't even notice it at first. Then suddenly TELL EVERYBODY I'M ON MY WAY-

Fucking fuck! Get the hell outta here Phil, I'm tryna watch the damn movie!

This was also the first time I ever watched a movie and felt manipulated. 9 year old Ray hit the twist in the third act and was *not happy*.

The sad music, the high-angled panning around shot... AND FUCKING PHIL RIGHT THERE IN MY DAMN EAR. I knew I was being made to feel sad on purpose and little Ray was fucking pissed! When your audience of literal children can tell you're manipulating them, the wheels are falling off. This is a bum story beat in a bum narrative. Even thinking about it now is makin' me mad!

Ugh. I don't know why Brother Bear is winning that poll. Well, actually I do. It's because this website is populated by literal children who weren't even born when this movie came out so they don't know any better. I thought it would probably win but I never could have predicted how many people have such fond memories of it. Or how vocal they would be about it in the tags on my poll.
