After much success from their 2022 and 2023 tours, The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra returned to play at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC (Aug 4, 2024). They played Bucha. Lacrimosa by Viktoria Polyova and Beethoven 9th with Ode to Joy in Ukrainian.
In the 200th anniversary year of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the orchestra will present its acclaimed and emotionally charged version of the work with the unique feature of its choral text, Schiller’s great cry of freedom, resistance, and progress against the forces of oppression in the form of his poem “Ode to Joy,” sung in Ukrainian.
You can watch some of their performances from this year on their conductor's Youtube page (Keri-Lynn Wilson)

spending my evening listening to Ukrainian songs of 60′s and 70's and got mesmerized by this masterpiece again. it’s called “A Song Will Be among Us” - written and performed by Volodymyr Ivasiuk, 1971. Do not hide the blue ray of your eyes, Sing to me one last time. I will take that song as a memory, This song will be among Us

Song of the Day: August 26, 2024
DakhaBrakha: Vynnaya Ya Vynnaya Ya on Amazon Prime Music Daily life has been rolling at a rapid pace for DeeJay Faux over the last couple of weeks, and I haven’t been able to keep up with these daily posts as much as I would like (although I haven’t missed one yet!). I’m working on a Top 10 Albums of 2014 series of posts, and that will take some time to prepare. In the meantime, I think I’ll…

On This Day (February 26)...A Light Into the Future
One year ago today, during the early hours of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukrainian artist John Object released his fourth album as his hometown of Kyiv was bombed.
I have no idea what my life is going to be like tomorrow and how much longer I have, so it felt appropriate to share an archive of my 2010-2019 works, in case I never get to do that when I’m old…The artist on his decision to publish this album. Retrieved from here. John Object released Life on this day in 2022 on Bandcamp. Album cover, which is pure white. Retrieved from here. This is the…

“I tried to explain that I was a musician but it didn’t work. You say you are a musician and it irritates them so much they beat you more, and accuse you of lying,” said Merkotan

While international organizations inspect and have access to our prisons where Russian prisoners are held, they turn a blind eye and do not fight for proper conditions for Ukrainian prisoners.

Another thing that outrages me is the way "Putin's prison" is used. It was not Putin who tortured him and others, but russians. This is not Putin's war, but Russia's. These are not the decisions and crimes of one person. After 10 years of war, the Russians are still being singled out and absolved of responsibility. That's impossible levels of stupidity and cowardice.

Ukrainian singer Kateryna Kravchenko joins D10 - Danube Project with "Quiet Danube," inspired by a traditional folk song. Project by Tamás & György Bolyki connects artists from Danube countries thru music.
Full album "Vein of Europe" releases in Sept.
"I have a very personal connection with the Danube River because I grew up in the southern part of Ukraine, in the Odesa region where the river flows. I find it fascinating that the Danube often appears in Ukrainian folk songs. Through the river and these songs, I feel a deep connection with my heritage and ancestors, which makes it so special to me. That’s why I decided to make an arrangement of the old Ukrainian song, “Tykho, Tykho Dunaj Vodu Nese," for this project. I'd like to wish all of us not to be afraid of undertaking such amazing projects and to pursue your ideas and inspirations. Create bands, compose music, collaborate with others, share your creative ideas, and unite!" says Kateryna Kravchenko, Ukrainian singer, songwriter.
Lyrics (English)
Oh, quietly, quietly the Danube carries water Oh, quietly, quietly the Danube carries water, And the girl is combing her braid.
Oh, she's combing it and taking it to the Danube. "Sail, sail, braid on the water And I'll follow you.“
There is no end to the quiet Danube, no end to the widow's son, Who drove a young girl crazy. --
---
