something about how tyler wants to be the chef but he doesn't want to put the effort. he can watch everything and he can buy everything because ofc he's rich, but that's all that matters. he thinks he can achieve that excellence, or rather he has achieved it because he has the knowledge
he deserves the special courses. he deserved that the chef loved him, because he knows. and he's special. because for him this unique experience is for him. he is the one its constructed for, the special child, the chosen one.
he knows that everyone will die on that island, yet he still brings margot to it. because, the poor, they are there for you to exploit, for you to achieve what you want, a step in a ladder. because you are special. and how dare the world doesn't allow you to be that. how dare there be rules. how dare the poor not see it like you do. that this was all made for you to relish. because they, the poor they only know how to eat, you YOU know how to taste, how to savour, how to enjoy.
it doesn't matter that he didn't do anything to work for it. because he can buy the experience. because he can boil it down to the basics without ever understanding what it meant. and the worst thing, that he thinks there's no difference between the two

a small detail I'd never noticed before: I was on the lookout for parker picking locks in the background, because I know that's a thing she does but I rarely actually see it, and instead I found her fiddling with elastic bands (at least I'm pretty sure) that end up wound around her fingers by the end of the scene.

which, relatable.

Yes. Riko was an abuser. Nobody can deny that he hurt, sexually abused and tormented people physically and emotionally.
Yes. Riko was abused. He was hit by Tetsuji when he got things wrong, conditioned to believe that he had to be the best or his life wasn't worth living. He was abandoned by his father because he was second born, ignored by his big brother, and not even congratulated after he tried everything to gain their approval.
Yes. He hurt Jean out of anger. He used Jean as an object because that is all he had ever been to his father and family. He was a way to make money, but his father never saw him as anything more than that. It allowed him to feel powerful and in control of someone when everything else in his life was out of his control.
Yes. He flips after his father dies. Of course, he does. When you've worked your entire life to be acknowledged, spending thousands upon thousands of hours training to win, winning trophies, doing sponsorships, raising great chunks of money for the family, only for your father to die before even showing an ounce of pride for you? Of course, he flips. Jean just happens to be there, someone he knows he can hurt and get away with. Someone less than him at the bottom of the food chain. Perhaps the only person who sees the anger for what it truly is: failure. And Riko doesn't like that.
Yes. He hurt Kevin out of jealousy. Riko grew up in a world where failure was unacceptable. Failure meant pain, death and suffering. Exy was all Riko had and all he ever had. He couldn't stand to be second best because second best is all he had ever been. He would not be second in the one thing he was meant to be the king of. He hurt Kevin out of jealousy, and was beaten to an inch of his life for it.
Yes. He grew up sheltered. Riko was groomed to be a star by Tetsuji. He was groomed and exploited for money by the only person who had ever looked at him and seen something. He lost his mother. His father didn't care about him. He had nobody. He lived underground in the nest for most of his life and played exy every single day for most of his childhood. He probably had no friends his own age until Kevin came along. There was nobody who understood what Riko was going through.
Yes. Riko hurt Andrew. He had Andrew hurt as another power trip. It was to show he had great power and could do what he wanted with it. He had no boundaries. Throughout the series, Riko is shown to be insecure. He craves power and acknowledgement and wants to prove he has a place in the mafia family next to his brother.
Yes. Riko is more complex than a simple villain. He is self-destructive and works to the bone to try and be worth something. He uses anger to cover up his blatant abandonment issues. He is never and will never be enough. And if he can't be enough, then nobody else can. Nobody can take his place.
He is scared of Kevin, frightened of Neil, terrified of Andrew. He is constantly trying to stop his precarious tower from tumbling in the only way he knows how.
If all his mistakes were punished with pain, disappointment and anger, how can he know any different? He doesn't know the world really and hasn't experienced it outside his little box of stardom. He doesn't know what is 'normal.' For him, failing means getting beaten. Failure means losing his status. Failing means falling from power. It always has.
No. Just because Riko was abused and groomed does not mean that his abusive behaviours were justified. He chose to become an abuser, despite everything he had suffered.
No. He wasn't born evil. He is horrible - don't get me wrong - but he shouldn't just be cast off as coming out of the womb with horns and a tail. He was shaped by his experiences, negative and positive. We all are.
Riko thought beating people into submission would show his power and prove his worth to his family. In the end, it resulted in his downfall.

So far I have concluded:
New Vash: Pretty baby. Cinnamon roll. Cute. Wholesome. Pretends to be a funny guy but it's pretty obvious he is a sad boi with a lot of trauma.
OG Vash: absolutely unhinged. Creature. Very loooong. Class clown. Either has no more than two braincells to rub together or all the braincells honestly depends on the situation. Probably has issues? Hides them pretty well tho. Still kinda wholesome

Should I talk in depth about the Wilbur situation?
Has it been talked to death?
Specifically, the abuser who wanted fame has been talked about to death. I know that.
If so, here's the TLDR of it .
I'm disappointed and figuring things out. The memories and people associated with him matter to me more than he does. Whatever it takes to ensure abusers prosper no longer.
I support Shelby.
For those who care:
I remember the exact day I got into Wilbur and the DSMP. It was exactly 3 days after Your New Boyfriend came out.
My friend I've unfortunately lost contact with, texted me about a song that's been in her head and sent it to me. I thought he was attractive and funny and the song was pretty fun. So, naturally, the DSMP was now my life hyperfixation. That never really left. No matter what Dream Team did, Snowchester and Sleepy Bois got me.
Until my friend tells me about the Wilbur and Shelby allegations. (Allegations at the time)
Shock, despair, existentialism.
I can't believe it. More so, I didn't want to. But I wasn't going to support him without word of confirmation from the people involved. I Watched Kwite, Schlatt, Brittany Broski, and kicked it out of my mind.
Until I hear from another friend that he confirmed It with an awful notes app response. You can't call that literary dumpster fire an apology.
While it doesn't matter what I think about this cause I'm obviously not involved. It pains me to see all the content I've enjoyed over the years go. I'll get over that. But I think the real pain is the reflecting needing to be done on how I celebrity crushed and idolized him. The people I've lost that loved him. I have no idea how they're dealing with this. I wish I could know. Gotta face the music, he's horrid and another smiling face that stabs backs.
Shelby's story has made me reflect on how I treated my old relationship. Caused deeper discussions and looks with my system and an ex partner.
All in all, Of course I support Shelby.

I love King trying to give Uea a safe place to go after the assault and then checking on him and poking him at night because he both cares and accepts no, accepts that Uea needs more space and time to process while showing that he'll still be there. He doesn't try to force him, he doesn't push him hard, he was fully prepared for Uea not to answer the video call and whines about him wanting to hang up.
King pushes but he doesn't ignore boundaries. He promises never to hurt him deliberately and he respects when Uea says no to something and apologizes when he does hurt him and does his best to make it up to him without ever knowing why he panicked but caring nonetheless.
He respect Ue and treats him with respect while loving him. He might not know his trauma or his why but that doesn't mean he feels he has the right to push him around or make choices for him. He wants to what he can get with Uea and what he feels comfortable with as well.

your art is impeccable the onlyyyyy critique i would provide would be to make gor's hands chubbier and less angular in conjunction with the rest of his lovely body
thanks I do it on purpose becaue I like the knuckle detail too much rn and I don't think he'd gain fat on his hands quickly. same as how I kept his wrists slim for a while
