We do not want this. This is not a decision being made on behalf of the American people. Literally, no one wants this, and we're being forced to pay for it. Our tax dollars funding genocide. I feel sick. I don't think any amount of protests on any scale will change anything because clearly, this is a nefarious and corrupt government decision, likely fueled by greed. It wasn't made with American citizens in mind, so I'm not sure how we can stop it.

An open letter to the U.S. Senate
Improve disabled American's financial stability with S.4102 - SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act
In the words of David Goldfarb on behalf of the Arc of the United States, "…we enthusiastically endorse S. 4102, the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act, which would raise the amount of savings a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipient can keep for the first time in over thirty years. The mission of the Arc is to promote and protect the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and actively support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.
"SSI provides an extremely modest cash benefit, a maximum of $841 a month in 2022, for certain individuals with disabilities and older adults. In March 2022, nearly 7.6 million people: 4.3 million working-age individuals with disabilities; 1 million children with disabilities; and 2.3 million older adults relied on the program.
"Many individuals with IDD rely on the SSI program. In 2017, SSA estimated that approximately 19% of working-age SSI recipients possessed an intellectual disability. For many people with IDD, SSI is their only source of income without which they could become institutionalized or homeless.
"Unfortunately, the benefit’s low, outdated resource limit of $2,000 for individuals/$3,000 for couples does not allow people to save for emergencies, such as a leaky roof, car repair, or other unexpected expense. To make matters worse, the $2,000 limit does not adjust for inflation every year, and it has remained the same since 1989.
"The SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act would significantly improve the lives of SSI recipients, including people with IDD, by raising the asset limit to $10,000 per individual/$20,000 per couple. The legislation also adjusts that number for inflation every year, a critical element in 2 today’s inflationary environment. This will allow SSI beneficiaries to use their own savings to address needed emergencies when they arise.
"Thank you again for this critical legislation."
Truly his letter is phenomenal and applicable to many American citizens. I hope you too appreciate his mastery of diction, his compassion for his fellow American, and the truth in his words.

Hi Matteo!
Would you happen to have any tips for making your application to grad schools stronger?
hmmm I think the only thing I can say is to write a strong personal statement! many programs might have you write a general personal statement or letter of intent, but some programs have specific questions for you to explore. I think what helps make a strong statement is being clear about what specific experiences, conflicts, people, or theory has taught you, and where you plan to grow. I wrote a lot about smaller conflicts shaping my overall worldview, like for example, being part of creating a social justice club but also being there to watch it crumble. This taught me a lot about conflict resolution, values, but also that institutions will demand your silence to maintain the status quo. It also helps to describe how you think that specific program will help you achieve these goals. Being a great writer helps, but if that's not you, don't be afraid to seek out help from those who can help improve your writing!
I assume having great letters of recommendation helps, so be smart about who you choose. They should be people who know you well, have seen you grown, and have helped you navigate challenges and who can speak very intimately about who you are in and outside work/field/class.
hope that helped!

Got convinced to actually start my original work (hey Lex <3) even if I have nothing more than a general idea of the main character and their workplace.
Scrivener absolutely rocks in the research and categorization department. You can add working links, images and obviously plain text. You can also add video and plain audio files that will play inside the program. And make a bunch of folders and subfolders. This is so well made all around, what the hell.
Tumblr media
I know I'm singing this program's praises like I'm being paid (I'm not) but I keep finding new features and things you can do with it and I keep being pleasantly surprised. So I'm sharing.
Also, this is less about the program and more about the process, but even structuring this tiny amount of research and writing sources has put my head in a much more focused place for the story.
Oooh, I'm exited. Gonna make the most asexual succubus you've ever seen.

what AI programmers fail to understand is that the prevailing programming philosophy of "if you can find my work, you can use my work" is not, in fact, prevailing outside of the programming community. in fact, most artists will kill you if you try it. they do not understand this.

i feel so anxious rn
#on one hand i want to do nothing bc. senioritis#but also. because i'm doing nothing. i'm running out of time to do things#*staring at my piano solo that i'm trying to take to state but haven't even touched*#*staring at fafsa*#*staring at driver's ed*#*staring at actually deciding what fucking university i'm going to go to*#i haven't had any mental breakdowns but like i feel like i'm close#it's like a constant dread#i hate thinking about the future but now i don't have much of a choice#plus no matter where i go for college i'm going to be alone#like...i feel horrible because most of my friends are going to the same place. and i'm just gonna be alone and forgotten about#and they'll prob say 'no we'll keep in contact and visit' but will that actually happen?#and even if it does i'm going to inevitably be left out of everything#if i go one place then at least i'll only be an hour away but my parents are pressuring (and manipulating) me into not going there#and they'll be pissed if i choose that and i don't know if i can deal with them and their passive aggressiveness.#but the other option is at least three hours away from any friends#and i don't have social media outside of tumblr...like i can get an instagram but at this point it probably won't be until i graduate#because my mom is so adamant on hating it and she'll be pissed at me if i make one without telling her which means i have to ask#and then there's the passive aggressiveness again and she'll probably try to stalk everything i do on there#and additionally the university option that my parents hate has the better linguistics program#and every time i mention that they get so pissed at me. and my mom's like 'we're just trying to protect you'#at this rate i'll probably never have a stable career or friends or anything#i'm just so fucking scared#i know when people say someone 'peaked in high school' they usually mean like popular kids and stuff#but like i feel like high school is going to be my peak. i think my life is going to fall apart after this

Whenever I see things about grad students having their healthcare revoked, I think about how neither of my two grad programs offered students any healthcare at all. Not even the one that required all students to be working at unpaid internships in the field (internships our supervisors had to grade and submit those grades to the school with detailed reports on our work) while we studied.

Clickbait: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - A Guide to Surviving the World of Online Sensationalism
Tumblr media
Well, you might want to think twice before you click that link, because what you're about to read might just be a classic example of a clickbait.
Clickbait is the art of creating headlines or thumbnails that are so intriguing, shocking, or just plain weird that you can't help but click on them. And let's be honest, we've all fallen for clickbait at some point in our lives. Whether it's a headline promising to reveal the secrets of eternal youth or a thumbnail featuring a cat doing something ridiculous, clickbait has a way of getting under our skin.
So, why do we fall for clickbait? Well, there are a few reasons. Firstly, our brains are wired to seek out novelty and excitement. When we see something that's unusual or unexpected, our curiosity is piqued, and we're compelled to investigate further. Secondly, clickbait plays on our emotions. Whether it's fear, anger, or joy, clickbait headlines often tap into our emotions to elicit a response.
But here's the thing about clickbait - it's not always what it seems. Clickbait headlines are often designed to be vague or misleading, leaving you feeling disappointed when the content doesn't live up to the hype. And in some cases, clickbait can even be dangerous, leading you to websites that are designed to scam or defraud you.
So, how can you avoid falling for clickbait? Firstly, be wary of headlines that seem too good to be true. If a headline promises to reveal the secrets of the universe or cure all your ailments, it's probably best to take it with a grain of salt. Secondly, take the time to read the preview or summary of an article before you click through. If the content doesn't seem relevant to the headline or thumbnail, it's likely a clickbait. And lastly, be discerning about the sources you trust. Stick to reputable publications and websites that have a track record of producing quality content.
In conclusion, clickbait can be both fun and frustrating. While it's tempting to click on those outrageous headlines and thumbnails, it's important to be aware of the potential pitfalls of clickbait. By being discerning about the content you consume and share, you can avoid falling for clickbait and protect yourself from scams and misinformation. So, the next time you see a headline promising to reveal the secrets of the universe, just remember - it's probably not all it's cracked up to be.

This is why Musk isn't worried about dropping Tesla stock or the Twitter shit storm. After 4 years of shameless hypocrisy and betrayal of workers, abortion rights and queer people, main issues on the 2022 ballots, its likely DeSantis will win the 2024 election. Musk is now positioning himself to replace Trump as GOP kingmaker, and will be able to count on fat Federal deals, especially through the military (which he already has via Starlink/SpaceX), to push his stock back up. This fascist piece of shit (and make no mistake, whatever his lies, Musk is making moves right out of the interwar fascist period) is a threat to everything decent in the world. He deserves the same fate as Nazis and the KKK.
