I've been playing Unsupervised on Choice of Games and basically everytime I try to do a supervillian run I end back pedaling because I can't bring myself to hurt Flit/Sawyer.

Speed running the villain route of Unsupervised because I need the new content but can’t bare to watch the rest of the team grow to hate me.
I swear I support the rehabilitation of criminals and the downfall of PARENTS! Even if I just murdered a guy! “It’s for the achievements!” I scream

The Trainee’s workplace authenticity
Tumblr media
One of my favorite things about workplace TV shows is when the characters actually do work. AND when the details of such work are not only relatively accurate, but also essential to how the characters relate to themselves, the world and each other. So far, "The Trainee" is giving that to me in the first two episodes.
Having interned/been an assistant at a TV production company and later moving to entertainment journalism and managing interns/junior writers there, I can appreciate both Ryan's and Jane's POVs. Here's what I liked so far:
Good Pick's pink tube slide and movie theater seats in the lobby - A lot of these entertainment-adjacent companies take a cue from Silicon Valley and have this frivolous, frat-boy design aesthetic -- bean bag chairs, foosball tables, etc. I worked in an office that had a ping-pong table. The idea is to make it fun enough that people want to stay in the office and work longer, which isn't really all that great. You stop seeing that fun stuff after a while and just want to get home. That said, I'd love to work in a company with a fire pole in it, but that would be too much of a liability.
Ryan's fluke hiring - Baimon totally hearing what he wants to hear from Ryan in that sham interview is hilarious but sadly not all that unusual. What sucks is that this is unfair to the manager who then must work with the unqualified person, and unfair to that person hired also, who isn't the best fit for the position. I've been the person saddled by the unfortunate hire and have had to make do … and sometimes you can figure it out, but often you're left doing extra work to make up for their deficits. If it's just an intern, no problem -- they'll be gone in a few months. I felt Jane's pain!
Ryan's uncertainty & silence - That said, Ryan clearly wants to do well but is out of his depth since this was not even what he was learning in school. I remember the first day as a journalist for a small company where I kind of was on my own, and nobody told me what to do. I was like, "WTF??" Part of you doesn't want to ask questions lest you expose your imposter identity, but you're also wondering just how long you can do nothing before someone notices.
The printer always breaks down -- always. You get pretty good at troubleshooting everything until resorting to calling a technician
Tumblr media
Jane's prickly demeanor - The fact is that in any company, people who are competent can move up, but that doesn't automatically infuse them with good managerial skills. I think workshops, etc. are a must for anyone who gets promoted and suddenly have people reporting to them. Everyone can get frustrated when they're overwhelmed, so I do have some sympathy for Jane. He does have one skill that I think is essential to be a good manager: identifying and acknowledging the strengths of an employee. It really makes all the difference that he finally sees Ryan as an asset, not a hindrance.
Ryan's skills aren't that bad at all - As soon as Ryan tells his family that he's no help to anyone at work, he immediately shows five different ways how much he's relied on by his family. Yes, people who are competent, reliable and can anticipate needs (like how his sister needs to be reminded to charge the battery after using the camera) will be able to apply those skills to other situations and can go far. Ryan just needs to familiarize himself with the industry first in order to know how he can fill in the gaps. (I believe in being able to change careers and taking big pivots in life.)
Tumblr media
The interns banding together - OMG I remember sometimes just being unsupervised while trying to get a project together, and there is a strange bond you have being the youngest and least experienced. And you do have the most stupid conversations.
Being one cog in a bigger machine - I really appreciate how they show all the different departments that have to come together to make one project work -- especially when last-minute changes need to be implemented or a persnickety client has opinions. You complain, you worry, you put in extra late hours and have to make 11th-hour fixes -- but it's so satisfying to see it all come together. Shit goes down, and you fix it.
Hiring extras - The hiring of extras at Good Pick was different from what I've experienced. I actually have been an extra, and what I'm used to is being part of a company or agency that has you in their database, and then you get picked or cast by that company and sent to your gig. But that's in Hollywood and for TV shows & movies. It's probably different for ad houses or in Thailand, but I did like how they showed that it is still a casting process. There are deliberate decisions made, and certain looks sought out. I thought it was hilarious that Ryan's first thought for hiring the salaryman was to get an uncle from the same restaurant as the auntie. If he had his way, everyone in that restaurant would be hired for some gig or another.
Tumblr media
Ryan getting scammed by the extra - I was screaming at Ryan as soon as he offered to pay that scammer extra. Just … no, boy. You had to have known that was shady. BUT despite being duped, he was willing to think on his feet and try to solve a problem by being proactive, and that does happen. And so do mistakes. He just needs to calibrate his radar for what is OK. (I'm glad Jane saw that.) Ryan is lucky that it only cost him 1,000 baht for that lesson.
Extras must be on hand and wait - OK this is a scene in the preview for Episode 3, but I was so happy to see it: Extras in Hollywood actually cannot just spend 5 minutes or whatever to do their job, even if that's how much you see them onscreen. There's a ton of hurry up and wait on film sets, and so extras have to stay in Holding -- usually just a designated area with some chairs (sometimes you get tables) -- until you're needed. And production schedules never run on time, so it can be hours or even days. You're lucky if you're there long enough to get a meal, if the temperature is nice, if you're able to make friends with the others and if there's wifi. Sometimes you bring your own clothes for wardrobe based on what you're told, and sometimes the wardrobe department supplements your wardrobe with extra pieces to help complete a specific look. And yeah, you're not able to leave except for the bathroom, so Ryan definitely shouldn't have let that one extra wander off.
"Ryan After Work" - I like these post-credit sequences that give extra insights into the job. And while the first one was more instructional, explaining how the production house differed from an agency, the second was more about the cohort camaraderie (and hinting at Ryan's positive feelings toward Jane). I hope the romance aspect of the show doesn't overshadow the work specificity going forward!

A bit of rambling and a request for specific feedback:
I recently tried CoG's latest 'Unsupervised', and just didn't vibe with it. And I can pinpoint why now: While the plot's fine, it's the tone that rubbed me wrong.
I'm no fan of stories with this (rather juvenile) 'lol relatable' tone that commonly strikes me as condescending. I forgot what the exact word is, but it's the tone of backhanded compliments, of simply talking down to someone while insisting you're their friend and on their side etc.
Don't like it.
But now I am worried that I'm unintentionally do what I hate.
Ballad and CuCu can be rather tongue in cheek at times, and I'd like to know if you ever felt as if the story is not taking you serious as a person, as if it's talking down to you or even mocking you.

The Rot sets in part 2
The earth rumbled
It received a request, from a human boy. A little boy who's energy is more akin to a sapling than a human. The boy sapling to asked bring a person to him. The person, a human man with a strange energy resided on top of a building made of steel and concrete. It would to be a little difficult.
But not too difficult.
The boy sapling hummed in gratitude. The earth hummed back and began its work.
Slowly but surely, it created a careful path from the human man's position to the location of the boy sapling. Once the path was ready it pulled the human man deep in the earth.
The human man let out a startled scream before it was quickly swallowed along with him. He was pulled and pushed until he reached the location of the boy sapling and spat him out. The boy sapling thanked the earth once again and the earth returned to it slumber.
Eike had anticipated that Propaganda might put up a fight and was ready to freeze him at a moment's notice. What he didn't anticipate was Propaganda, trembling in a fetal position mumbling that he didn't want to die.
Was Propaganda claustrophobic? He might have considering the reaction. No matter, he thought, it might make him talk easier.
He put on his costume while waiting for the earth to bring him his target. His costume was an all white, sleeveless unitard with thigh high boots, long gloves and a face and neck covering mask, leaving only his long platinum hair and shoulders exposed. He wore a jade colored cape with a hood attached with gold trimming. (He removed Quintessence's Sun symbol from his costume. Eike did not wish to tarnish her name with what he intends to become)
He couldn't afford Propaganda or anyone to find out his identity, not yet anyways.
Although, considering Derek works for PARENTS now he might have ratted him out. Or he's planning to use it as a bargaining chip. His source might have some insight on the matter but that's something else he'll have to worry about later.
He stood over the trembling, closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Eike Harlow has retreated, and Catalyst stood in his place.
"Propaganda" Catalyst spoke, his coice carrying an authority unfitting for a hero. "Raise your head, I have questions to ask"
Propaganda raised his trembling head and looked at the man above him. he recognized him as Catalyst, the Vera city hero. He must have come here for Lil Biggie's concert. A smile appeared on his face, If he can control him and use him against Lil Biggie-
Before he could finish his thought he felt himself sinking in the ground. Panic took over and started yelling, begging. He didn't want to go in the dark again.
Catalyst stops and looks down at his half sunken body. "Before you attempt anything, know that we are alone, far away from anyone who could hear or help"
He knelt down and grabbed Propaganda's chin, "all I want, is answers. Give me what I desire, and I will not drag you underneath the earth"
The villian scoffed, "look at you, all high and mighty, some hero you are! Threatening a defenseless man like myself. Playing big hero after your mentor up and ditched you?!
I've done nothing wrong and you should release me at once!"
Propaganda has been subtly attempting to use his mind control powers on Catalyst. If he can just get to him-
He started sinking again, his legs already swallowed and the ground is up to his chest. "WAIT, WAIT! YOU CANT DO THIS!"
Catalyst stood motionless, "I have no time for your games. Give me my answers and you will not become one with the earth"
Propaganda finally relented, the hero seems to be in bad and he doesn't want to push his luck. "Fine, what do want to know?"
Beneath his mask, Catalyst smirked, Propaganda is a weak man and it wouldn't have taken long for him to break. The interrogation begins now.
"How did you escape the prison you were in?"
"There was a breakout and I escaped during the confusion."
"What was your plan here?"
"To get back at Lil Biggie for the humiliation he put me through"
"How many people did you have under mind control?"
"Only the hostages on the roof "
"How did you get your hands on Dozer?"
"I got it from a Crazy Chris in Ver-!"
Propaganda immediately stopped talking. He got played! He lead on with some obvious questions and let him talk! He looked horrified and wide eyed at the hero above him. He stood completely still with the wind moving his cape a little. His face completely obscure by the mask and the lack of light in the dark alley. At the moment he looked more a villain that the sunshine hero he was known for.
"Go on," Catalyst said, "keep going. You've come this far anyways"
Propaganda wanted to argue, but he thought about it. Catalyst will continue to sink in the ground if they he denied him answers, any attempt to use his powers will also result in him sinking further. He didn't know if the hero was willing to kill him or not but was in no position to test it. He sighed and kept talking.
"I heard there was a drug that boosts superpowers for powered individuals such as you and I, and grants superpoweres to normal people. There's a dealer in Vera city, goes by Crazy Chris. He got his hand on the drug and started dealing it about a month ago."
"Personally I didn't believe it till I tried myself. And I've never felt more powerful! I would've taken revenge on everyone who ever wrong me and-"
"That's enough" Catalyst waved his hand and Propaganda was lifted from his position. With his legs released he groaned and stood up.
"As promised, you are free from the earth's grasp."
Propaganda, in true villain fashion, began monologuing.
"Foolish hero! Did you think I, Propaganda will let you get away with this mistreatment! I shall control you and use you as I see fit!"
Catalyst paid him no mind and began walking away. His source has already informed him of the drug and what it does but he wanted to confirm the information personally. Propaganda, who didn't take kindly to being ignored attempts to use his powers one last time. As he was about to turn to the direction Catalyst walked away in he couldn't move his legs. In fact a coldness was making it way up. He looked and saw his legs covered in ice.
"Catalyst! You bastard! You said will let me go!!"
The hero turned around to spoke in a casual tone "I said I will not sink you into the earth, I didn't say I wasn't going to do anything else"
Propaganda yelled and thrashed before he knew he was a frozen bloke of solid ice. Catalyst opted to leave him here for PARENTS to find and quickly hid and changed out of his costume. He used the earth passage to return to the concert hall and appeared inside. As far as anyone was concerned, Eike Harlow was inside the concert hall the entire time. The show about to start in about 15 minutes according to his phone clock. Eike saw the couple who were held hostage by Propaganda's mind control looking a bit confused but otherwise unharmed. People were mingling and talking, drinks at hand, chatting with friends, excitement and joy filled the air.
Eike smiled to himself. Lil Biggie's concert will go off without a hitch then Sawyer will drop by and meet him and Amir here and then he intends to take his two friends out for a celebratory dinner. Today was gonna be a good day.
Eike made sure of it.

I run into this problem frequently when changing jobs. I learn quickly, work efficiently and consistently. People are quick to take advantage of this, giving me ever increasingly difficult tasks and holding me to higher standards than my coworkers.
What they don't understand is that I'm not doing it because I care or have a drive to succeed in the company. I do it because I hate work, so I shut my brain completely off while I do it. Everything I do is automated. And the second you pull me out of that automated head space to tell me I'm doing a great job, give me employee of the month, or some other pointless accolade they only tune me into the reality that I'm unintentionally raising the bar.
Now I have to slack off to push that bar back down and temper expectations because I know im now on the path to becoming the reliable workhorse that gets rewarded with more responsibilities for the same pay as the lazy guy who is not productive and can hardly be relied on to show up to work let alone do his job.
Slacking off and slowing down takes a lot more effort for me than just doing the job. It requires me to be mentally present and aware of how fast I'm doing things so I can regulate my pace. If I'm aware I'm at work, I'm miserable. Wich translates to, "fuck this place, time to find a new job."
This is why I gravitate to employers who leave me alone. This is why I pursue solo, unsupervised work on the road. This is why I love being a trucker. No bosses around to ruin my emersion and remind me of my role as a cog in the machine.

“The general idea of being a “boss” is running a big company, doling out instructions, and collecting results, but this is far from the truth. The job comes with many genuine, emotional, and interpersonal interactions.
The staff members at your firm aren’t just cogs in your money–making machine; their well–being — mental, physical, and emotional — should also be of concern. Being a boss is about managing a company and its constituent members.”
“Guidance refers to the interaction between the boss and the employee post–performance or, simply put, feedback. A leader can provide feedback in two forms — praise and criticism. This part of leadership is delicate because there might be adverse responses to the feedback. The trick is to balance both types of feedback to achieve positive reactions and boost workers’ performance.”
Managing people is a challenging task because people are different, and one trick won’t work for all; this is where being a good boss comes in handy. ~ Kim Scott
“Things can only worsen if you stray a little further from obnoxious aggression and find yourself in manipulative insincerity, for example, emotional manipulation and coercion without regard for the person’s emotions. You might think you are showing that you care by withholding harsh, honest opinions, but you’d tell the truth if you did care; you are simply telling someone they’re great when they’re not just so they can like you. False praise and reserving criticism will only destroy the business you’re trying to protect.”
“Lastly, ruinous empathy, an offshoot of manipulative insincerity, happens when bosses have a hard time criticizing underperformance but condone and encourage it instead. This behavior is the mark of ruin for a company because it prioritizes being nice over being direct, hence guaranteeing poor performances. Your desire to be liked or seen as nice is unhealthy and, unlike radical candor, will ensure that trust has eroded and the staff is comfortable being lazy.”
Radical candor ensures that you remain a valuable guide for workers, an inspiration to improve, and a boost toward positive results. ~ Kim Scott
You can gauge a person’s performance and ambitions when they feel free enough to communicate them to you. ~ Kim Scott
“When your rockstars perform well, recognize and reward their efforts but don’t promote them to a new role or challenge right away. You’ll only cause them to crash fast.
If you treat your superstars as rockstars, who continue to roll out new work unsupervised, you’ll only have poor results. Superstars will not improve or really do much if they don’t feel challenged. So, switch it up for them after a big triumph or failure. They won’t shy away from new roles; they need just that kind of opportunity to shine.
Don't neglect the “middle;“ they need your guidance too so that they won't feel left out or mediocre. The middle has a rhythm, and it is your role to find it. And lastly, don’t be afraid to let go of the perpetual underperformers but make sure that before you do this, you have been radically candid with them, offered guidance, and tried to readjust their focus and roles.”
Your team must be part of the decision–making process, or you risk setting up an autocratic system where the staff will feel left out and displeased. ~ Kim Scott
“Each team member has a unique drive, that special thing that inspires them, and it is your job to identify and use it to the advantage of you both. You can pinpoint that drive by using the three–question style. Then categorize their life story, dreams, and short–term goals into temporary boxes to project a tailored growth path to help them reach their goals.”
“Reward top–performers — rockstars and superstars — accordingly. Be fair in your appraisal of tasks completed. Create a solid recruitment process; outline a detailed job description that aligns with what you want in an employee to avoid hiring misfits. Never be too scared to let go of people who are stuck and continue to underperform. But when you do so, never do it with contempt, and ensure that you set up a follow–up to ensure that they can find new opportunities.”
“Kim Scott details a few guidelines to achieve a perfect result–making environment.
• One–to–one conversations are the boss’ way to know what’s really going on with individual team members regarding their successes and struggles.
• Staff meetings are avenues to review previous work, appraise the current efforts, proffer updates, and establish techniques for the coming future.
• Think time and take regular breaks from the thoughts about others.
• “Big debate” meetings allow the team to amicably debate without malice and with the mindset of a unified goal at the end.
• “Big decision” meetings create an avenue for the team to chip in with decisions that will affect the whole firm.
• All–hands meetings make you enlist the ENTIRE team into the process, persuading the non–believers to join the wave.
• Kanban is a system where the staff fills in work to be done, work in progress, and work done on a display board where everyone can observe the process.
• Walk around; find time to learn from and solve minor problems as you attempt to tackle major ones.
• Being conscious of culture — the attitude and mindset prevalent in the company — will go a long way to either making or marring the company’s success trajectory. If the staff is accustomed to slacking, they’ll continue to sink lucrative ideas.”
“It involves a lot of honesty, openness, intentional caring, mentoring, guiding, and motivating. It takes much more than a degree from business school, but an actual decision to be a better person and an even better “manager.”
Radical candor is a technique that allows you to combine the most effective methods of communication with the employees to make your work environment more positive and growth–encouraging. Your workers have different backgrounds and experiences, requiring you to find a unique approach to each of them. Be a person who is sincerely concerned about a worker’s performance, satisfaction with their job, and their opinions on different topics. Make sure that you know whether your employees are stressed or not because emotional tension negatively affects everyone’s performance.
It is difficult to maintain professionalism when filled with negative feelings. So, you should set up regular meetings where you can talk face to face with every person to know how your workers feel. Allow an employee to feel safe with you, and they will open up. The work environment will become a place where the workers have a chance to be themselves as in real life.
However, don’t forget about yourself while taking care of others. You don’t want to experience emotional exhaustion caused by neglect of your needs. Always take some time during the day to think about yourself. Concentrate on your sensations — do you feel tense, frustrated, happy, irritated, inspired? Try to find out the reasons for these emotions because it will help you handle the situations better in the future.
Try this
The next time you are having issues with a member of your team, remember that different types of motivation work for different workers. Take some time to figure out the best method of motivation for each worker and watch them thrive.”

Seat 21 - Chapter 7
A/N: As promised, more mass update!
Ever faithful to his word, Mic sensei does come back.
His flyaways are completely out of control now; static raising his hair.
“Why hello miss Hinode!” A bright voice chirps from below. My eyes follow the sound, stopping by Mic sensei’s shin. Principal Nezu grins up, beady eyes shining.
“Would you mind letting us in? I have some things we’d like to discuss.”  Before I can so much as answer, the small rodent squeezes through the opening of the door. With an apologetic smile, Mic sensei holds the door wider; nodding at me to follow the principal.
Nezu strolls through the apartment without care; hopping up into the musty armchair thats older than I am.
“Miss Hinode, it has come to my attention that you are living here unsupervised, yes?” Beady eyes are trained on my face.
Hesitantly, I nod.
“And you are aware that a minor living their own violates the national child protection order?” The words are so nonchalant; but make me freeze nonetheless.
“We can’t have any students breaking the law, Miss Hinode.” Principal Nezu tuts.
My blood runs cold.
Please don’t expel me. My hands tremble, temples stinging.
“Well, that’s certainly an option.” The rodent muses.
“You could move back home, but I understand that you would then have trouble with your commute. Yes?” A chaste nod is all I can manage.
“The third option, is you find another place to live - with guardians of some sort. Usually we would offer group homes or government foster families. But Present Mic seems to think that in an,, unfair decision.” My eyes shoot up to my sensei.
A half smile, guilt ridden to say the least.
“That is why he kindly offered up his home and guardianship to you. We have already spoken with your father, and he has approved this decision if you should proceed.” Nezu explains.
My father? I ask.
“Your ma, uh, didn’t pick up kiddo.” Present Mic whispers.
Oh.
I wish I could say I was surprised.
“It’s up to you kiddo,” It’s almost amusing how short Mic sensei is as he crouches down. Someone so tall looks odd looking up at me.
“But, if you decide to stay with me, I promise to look after ya the best I can.” The solemnity of his voice scares me.
Suddenly, I’m eight again; looking out on an audience of hundreds. Unable to say anything, no matter how badly I want to.
It’s times like this I feel how heavy the pearls are on my ears.
But, Mic sensei is kind.
He is patient.
He saw how scared I was yesterday, and came to visit me today.
My instincts scream against me.
Don’t go. Don’t trust. Never trust. Alone is safer than together.
But, I want to be a hero. Mic sensei can help me. He’s a prohero, its his job to look after people.
He was a prohero too. So was she. Now look at them.
What, I start. Is your home like?
“Well kiddo. I live in an apartment with my husband, and our three cats.” Mic sensei explains softly.
Husband? Alarm bells ring. Not safe.
What does he think? Hesitancy slows my hands.
“Well, Shou has abit of a soft spot for you. So I’m sure he won’t mind.” He shrugs.
Shou? Cogs start turning; surely not.
“Yeah, ‘zawa loves you kids. But he worries about you.” The blond muses, confirming my suspicions.
Aizawa sensei.
He promised he would be careful.
He let me stay.
He’s giving me a third chance.
Okay. If you’re sure. I sign.
“Wonderful!” Nezu claps, my entire body jerking in response. Climbing down from the couch, the rodent rests a paw on my teacher’s knee.
“I’ll go and start the paperwork, you and Miss Hinode can start packing.” Though he doesn’t smile, Nezu’s beady eyes glint as he happily strolls through the front door.
I swear I can hear him humming.
I deflate, held breath leaving me. Mic sensei’s own sigh echoes.
“Alright, it’s getting late so we’ll just grab the essentials tonight; ‘kay kiddo?” He asks, tone gentle as ever.
Ok.
Rushing to my room, I grab exactly that - the essentials. My uniform, pyjamas, toiletries and the like.
It’s always shocking - how an entire life can pack away into just a few bags. I give myself a pat down, checking that I have everything.
Phone? Yes.
Wallet? Yes.
Keys? Yes.
Mask?
Shit.
My fingers graze my lips, rather than the cotton that should be there. My mind spins, trying to think of where it could possibly be. I sift through my memories, before landing on the incriminating moment.
The shipwreck zone, in the water.
I ripped off my mask to call for Asui.
It’s gone.
Annoyance surges through my body, my lips pursing together.
If I was home, on my own, this wouldn’t be a problem. I could see where buy some more fabric nearby, and have a new one stitched up by tomorrow.
But I can’t. I was given the choice to continue living alone, or continue my hero studies and I chose the latter. Mic-sensei has been kind enough to offer me a place to stay and I thank him by putting him and Aizawa sensei in danger.
Maybe All Might was right.
I am dangerous.
A hand gently placed on my shoulder. My body jerks, twisting around at alert.
“What’s with the scowl, kiddo?” Present Mic sensei’s voice is patient. Kind. Too kind to be in such danger.
I clamp my teeth down onto my tongue, fangs piercing.
My mask, I lost it in the battle yesterday. I explain.
“Still feeling sick?” There’s an undercurrent of concern to his voice. “Maybe we should get you into a doctor.”
I shake my head.
For my voice. So I don’t accidentally use my quirk and hurt people. My hands fly frantically, and it surprises me that my sensei keeps up.
“For your quirk?” The man tilts his head slightly. “Seems like overkill, kiddo.”
Liquid metal fills my mouth.
Is not. I argue, earning only a shrug in response.
“Okay, if you’re sure. I’ll pick up a pack when I do the groceries tomorrow.” Mic sensei concedes, obviously not understanding the looming danger.
Thanks, I sign curtly, scared that even my visual words will harm him.
“Other than that, you ready to go kiddo?” He asks, nodding towards the door. “Car’s still out front and ready to go.”
I nod again, trying to avoid words. A grin breaks out on my teacher’s face.
“Then let’s go!” His voice is back to that familiar cheer, slightly soothing my anxiety.
I duck under his leather-clad arm as Mic-sensei holds the door open for me. A jingle of the knob confirms that its locked, as he steps out beside me.
Following him down the apartment stairs, I keep as silent as possible.
I keep that same silence as I slide into the passenger seat of Mic sensei’s black SUV.
My silence stays as we pull up outside a new apartment complex; one that looks significantly fancier than the one we just came from.
It stays silent, right up until the door to my sensei’s apartment opens.
A series of frantic meows greets us.
A long haired tabby rolls over upon seeing us, purring into the polished floor. It blinks it’s large yellow eyes at me.
My breath hitches; heart stinging.
“That’s Kitaro,” Mic starts, not even looking up to identify the cat as he locks the door behind us.
“He’s an attention whore,” He continues. Laughter builds in my chest, threatening to bubble over.
Taking a deep breath, I successfully suppress it; but I can’t stop the smile from forming on my face.
“‘Zashi? That you?” A pained groan echoes through the house. The voice sends flashes through my mind.
Careful. Careful. A toothy grin within a beak. Blood rushing down my sensei’s face.
“Yeah babe, it’s me.” Mic-sensei calls out from behind me.
“Be right back, kiddo. I’m just gonna go let Sho know what’s going on.” He explains, walking past me. Sheer guilt shoots through my heart.
I forgot Aizawa sensei didn’t know I was coming.
Standing awkwardly in the doorway, I hear voices murmur from what I assume is their bedroom.
Kitaro rolls over, stretching as he steps up. With another needy meow, he bumps into my leg firmly. Bringing my hand to meet his head, a warm rumble shakes the cat’s entire body. My heartbeat slows with each purr.
“Kiddo? Sho wants to talk.” Mic’s voice echoes down the hall.
Just like that, fear grips my heart again. I feel it pounding in my eardrums, making my footsteps inaudible.
My blond sensei stands in a doorway, a concerned smile.
“Now kid, he’s okay, but don’t be shocked. He did only come home from the hospital at lunch.” He explains gently, a hand on my shoulder.
Mic-sensei steps aside, and tears immediately well in my eyes.
The only recognisable feature that I can see is the familiar black hair. Everything else, from head to toe, is covered in a thick layer of bandages.
“Hinode?” The lump of bandages speaks into the room, not moving from its spot in the large bed.
“She’s here, Sho.” Mic confirms quietly.
“Mic told me you were living on your own, is that true?” The fatigue is evident in Aizawa-sensei’s voice, moreso than ever.
I nod, Mic sensei leaning over to whisper in my ear.
“He can’t see you through the bandages. You’re gonna have to speak, kiddo.” I could slap myself upside the head with the obvious realisation.
“I’m not going to make you talk, Hinode. But I still expect answers to my questions.” The bandages grumble. An arm sneaks out from under the duvet, resting near the side of the bed.
“Just sign on my hand, it’ll take me a second to get it though.” The arm is bandaged just as heavily as the rest of him, but I rest my hands in his palm nonetheless.
Yes, sensei. I spell carefully.
“So you were living alone? At fifteen?” The judgment in my teacher’s voice is clear as day.
Yes. I admit. A tired sigh.
“Do you know how ridiculous that is?” The scolding is gentle, almost, concerned.
Yes, I do. Embarrassment eats me alive.
“There’s going to be some rules here, okay?” Aizawa sensei’s voice is getting raspier by the minute.
Of course. I sign. Thank you Aizawa sensei.
“At home, you call us Aizawa and Yamada. We’re not your senseis here, we’re your guardians.” He starts, and my eyes widen. I turn to question this with Mic-sensei, only to get a pointed look in return.
Ok. Hesitantly, I agree.
“Don’t go telling all the other kids that ‘Zashi and I are married, either. I hate dealing with pointless gossip.” Aizawa’s lecturing is the most familiarity I’ve experienced since entering the apartment.
I nod my hand in his palm.
“Keep your room clean, help with chores. Keep doing your best at school. Saturdays are movie nights, feel free to join if you so wish.” There’s a finality to the last sentence.
“I’m going back to sleep, I don’t care what you two pick out for dinner.” He addresses both of us now, retracting his arm back into the bed.
“Okay, sleep well babe. Lemme know if you need anything.” Mic-sensei, no, Yamada, moves some hair out of his husband’s bandaged face fondly. Then, he turns to me.
“Let's get you set up, kiddo.” He smiles.

Duck Shuffler x Reader Headcanons
🎰Who could blame you for getting a crush on a Cog as goofy as Buck? He was so silly he could've very well been a toon!
🎰You hung out with him a lot before deciding to confess to him. To your surprise, he got to it first by confessing to you over a game of blackjack {you'd decided that the loser would have to share an embarrassing secret}. You told Buck you'd been planning to lose to the game so you could confess, but somehow his luck had managed to be worse than yours!
🎰And that's how you two started dating...
🎰Buck is a sloppy kisser. Expect him to also end up licking you because his tongue is too long to comfortably stay in his mouth.
🎰He LOVES to have either you or him spin his slots to see what'll happen next {cuddles, kissing, playing games together, ETC}.
🎰Buck also secretly likes it when you sneak up on him to spin his slots. Do it frequently.
🎰Try not to leave him unsupervised in your estate for a long period of time. You might come back to find the place a complete wreck and Buck's explanation will be something like, "I wanted to make you a githt but I couldn't get the thtupid crayonths to color in the lineth!" and then he will hold up a poorly drawn picture of you and him cuddling. It's not an explanation for how he wrecked the place, but at least he tried to do something cute.
🎰Anything that has to do with luck or completely unannounced gifts really make him happy. The more unpredictable and random whatever you're doing is, the more he will enjoy it.
🎰Buck has a pet duck named Buck Jr., and when you visit his house you get to meet Buck Jr. and maybe even pick him up. He is a very cute and polite duck, be kind to him.
🎰Buck will also let you give bread to Buck Jr., but not too much bread to keep his ducky healthy! {Bread has very little nutritional value and if their tummy is full of bread they won't look for foods they need for nutrients, so it's only a little treat for Buck Jr.}
🎰Buck will want to attempt to cook for you sometimes because he thinks he'll get lucky enough for it to actually work this time. Do not let him unless you want to watch someone's house burn down!
🎰Take him out to random dates frequently... if he's not already dragging you off somewhere. And I do mean random, he loves going somewhere he's never been before- especially with you! At least if neither of you like it, you have each other's company to still enjoy and that's a win for him.
🎰Buck will also frequently gamble, but he's like... suspiciously good at winning. He pretty much always manages to get a net profit by the end of the night- usually a large one, too. He just says he has a lot of good luck when asked about it and spends a lot of his winnings on gifts for you.
🎰He makes no effort to hide his relationship with you from his coworkers or even your fellow toons. Getting fired? Being judged? He doesn't care! You're not allowed to fight Buck anymore because the Toon Resistance caught wind of your relationship and your loyalty to the toons is periodically questioned. Some toons will admit to you that they have a crush on a particular Cog, though, and ask you for advice on pursuing them.
🎰Dating Buck is a lot of randomness and sporadically doing things, so be prepared to have one heck of a ride! But things are never boring while you're dating him, that's for sure.
