yknow what im kinda noticing??
to me it looks and feels like im slowly moving away from my super upa-esque stephen silvery art style and moving towards something more uniquely mine. like how i used to draw things almost
i think its because im no longer aiming to be in animation so i worry less about "animation friendly" art?? now i draw more illustration-type stuff and its starting to show in my style. just thot that was interesting and wondered if anybody else noticed

It was today that I learned that during the chaos of the 1940s both the Polish and the Ukrainians engaged in what amounted to being balkan-esque ethnic cleansing against each other.
Both Polish and Ukrainian residents were executed, deported or terrorized by Ukrainian UPA and Polish Communist/Nationalist resistence forces.
This occured less than a century ago, so there are people still that were effected by these massacres or were familiar with the events second-hand. And now these same people are baring witness to Poland becoming one of Ukraine's closest allies and Ukrainian people once again becoming predominant minority of Poland's eastern regions due to immigration.
On one hand, this does give me hope as it serves as a clear example that reconciliation between nations is possible, but it also provides me with a small sense of despair that nations with previously cordial relations can become mortal enemies in less than a generation. As far as Russia and Ukraine is concerned, I still remember the times when it was not uncommon that Ukrainian actors and performers (Zelenskiy included) would perform and appear in Russian shows and movies.

"Cool Cats"
Herse a brand-new original from me that I did in my latest livestream! A sextet of cats in a jazzy jam session.
Originally when I started on this, I considered doing this as a fanart piece on the Aristocats, one of Thomas Malley and his friends jamming out. But since this was live drawing and I didn't feel like surfing through several references, I ended going in a different direction for it.
Wanted this to have a stylized UPA esque style for this one!

NSR + OCs Doodle Dumps
Some bad sketches from before *that* happened.
Notes under the cut.
Puella Mayday: Mayday dressed as Madoka Kaname + Kliffby. Just a silly doodle. Don't expect anymore characters in the crossover.
UPA B2J: The pose is based on some official keyart (I think it's the boxart). I wanted to finish this, but I'm just not feeling it anymore.
E.G. Sketch: I couldn't remember what he looked like, so I tried to draw him again. It looks off.
Young Kliff: Another idea for a younger Kliff. It's a lot different from my earliest interpretations of that prompt. This version is based more on some early concept sketches of him. I imagine young!Kliff as someone who was drawn to rock because he found belonging in the subculture, so he took it pretty badly when his "home" essentially crumbled around him the same way his "real" home did.
System & White: System is a "character" in Desynchronized that I've alluded to several times (especially in the Headcanons series), but has never made a proper appearance. In short, System (aka Orca) is the literal system which controls the 1010s thought process without being filtered through their individual personality cores. As such, it doesn't technically have its own body and exists in every 1010. If I ever needed to show it visually, it would manifest as a black haired version of whichever 1010 it was currently possessing.
DDMC Redraw: I started a sketch of a redraw of my Doki Doki Mermaid Club title screen. I lost interest in it at some point. I think the composition could be a lot more interesting.

[The original piece]
Kun3h0's Eye: Originally for that poll about Kun3h0's eye, I was just going to use a base and draw all the different answers before I eventually decided to do a unique drawing for each. Some unused sketches included a tentacle, a glitch, an invert colored eye, and an alternate design for the bunny eye patch.
Kun3h0's Things: I was trying to fill the page with various things that are important to Kun3h0, but I never quite finished it. There are more things I could have added, but these are the things I drew:
The GAB Nano: Kun3h0's transformation trinket, storage device, and remote to contact GAB. It's capable of producing various things including power-ups, snacks, toys, etc., granted that Kun3h0 has enough "credits" to purchase them.
Various Keychains (GAB, UFO, Octopus, Strawberry, and Bead Chain): Rather than save her credits for more useful things, Kun3h0 has a habit of cashing in her credits for various trinkets and keychains. The sailor octopus is of course a reference to E.G. while the rest are either in-universe references or based on real keychains I own.
Alien Mascot: The mascot of Kun3h0's favorite discontinued soda brand: Cosmic Caffeinators
White Rabbit Batteries: Kun3h0's preferred brand of batteries. They're modeled after white rabbit milk candies, a childhood favorite of mine.
Cosmic Caffeinators (Raspberry flavor): A soda so unfit for human consumption that it works better as coolant fluid. This is the pink stuff that colors Kun3h0's ears. Despite supposedly being discontinued, this stuff is available in abundance at the arcade Kun3h0 works for.
Detective Floats: Revisiting an old concept for a soda themed OC. He used to run a soda fountain, but I've tried reimagining him as a private investigator from a Strawberry Shortcake-esque world who teams up with a demon slaying bounty hunter from a Doom-esque world. He's cute, but I'm not totally sold on this design. I've got too many string-bean characters (and he is in fact my proto-string bean, but he's since been displaced by the likes of Kun3h0 and The Prince Formerly Known as Frog), so I may experiment with his body type a little more down the line.

absolutely pointless post but i comb through a lot of old clone high episodes for upa-esque designs when im drawing a blank at my own job and a. the second half of the first season is sooo much better than the first half they really find their footing in the last few eps of the season and b. that show is near incomprehensible which is why they could never make the new one akin to it. a shame because thats its entire personality. The ep where scudworth takes robodog to the principal gala and they just keep cutting back to joan and cleo trying to kill each other which devolves into them just running around to the benny hill theme at random intervals for no reason. SO fucking funny but imagine showing that to a room full of execs in 2024 they would be so pissed that you showed them something they don't understand the humor of

Wanting to expand my palettes of taste regarding the international animation scene and decided to take a gander at a previous studio that I’ve watched before. Yugoslavia/Croatia’s very own, Zagreb Film! The cartoon I watched and will be reviewing is 1958’s Concerto for Submachine Gun (original title: Koncert za mašinsku pušku). This review is mainly fact but it contains some opinion. So watch the cartoon for yourself and see what you think of it! This cartoon is a pretty neat one and it’s a hallmark in international animation so yeah lmao.
The short starts off with a little jazz interluded number about a big, bustling city with cars on every street. The most important of all is the mayor’s car. Who is seen riding around with his protectors as he makes the guards at the bank pose for a picture. He completes his grand driving around the city as he comes back home as it turns out that the happy, white little mayor is all a facade, a mask, a latex suit if you will. The guy is actually a disgruntled, black with tuxedo wearing criminal mastermind who is unhappy with the fact he pursues some whimsical facade. As he opens a closet fulled with people, he reveals his master plan…. To rob the bank! He can’t do it by himself since it’s guarded so he hires a bunch of henchmen to do it for him as we then go to the most memorable sequence of the short. The battle! It’s criminal henchmen against the bank guards against the cops in a wonderfully timed & scored sequence that truly lives up to this film’s title. After the shootout takes place. The other henchmen & most of the cops are dead as the surviving henchman realizes he didn’t get any dough. Which gratefully upsets the mastermind as he grows a tail and shows utter discomfort for our henchman. However, the mastermind doesn’t give up too easily as he goes ahead and comes up with another plan that involves another bunch of rich fat cats and a sculpture to do the trick. After that, the henchman goes underground to steal the money that’s in the bank vault as the remaining guards try to stop him. Alas, everything goes to shit as the henchman & mastermind get away with the crime.. or do they? The mastermind, showing his true colors, steals the money all to himself and only leaves a measly 1,000 dinars for the henchman and the other guys to fight over as the mastermind literally orchestrates the fight, leaving nothing in the end
The short is pretty nicely designed and nicely scored as well. It has a central theme & motive (greed, revenge, & deceit) and Zlatko Grgic alongside the rest of the animators here give the limited, UPA-esque designs here some great movement. I also love how screen credits for the tenor sax (performed by Ozren Depolo) and drums (performed by Petar Spasov) exist!
The only issue I have with it isn’t an actual issue, more of a nitpick but there’s a brief scene or two in which the animation checker didn’t check everything before the camera operator shot (exposed) the film as the henchman’s tie disappears for a few frames in some of the toon. Idk, just some stupid thing I notice in cartoons lol. Oh well, it’s still a great short anyhow!
I rate it a 10/10! A classic short. One that should be seen by people all around the world. A maverick for the Zagreb Film studio and what their artists was inspired to during these times
Credit goes to the Zagreb Film channel itself for the screengrabs and the clip you see here! It explains why the quality is so amazing!!! Though, some audio issues are present with the film
Directed by Dusan Vukotić for Zagreb Film. Zagreb, Yugoslavia (present day Croatia)

The Tell Tale Heart - 1953 narrated by James Mason
Animation studio UPA—United Productions of America—is best known these days as the studio that gave us Mr. Magoo and Gerald McBoing Boing (which inspired a certain website). But the studio, originally created by three former Disney employees, wanted to broaden horizons back in the 1950s, and created this quite disturbing adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,” narrated by the venerable James Mason.
Due to its adult subject matter, it was the first animated film to receive an “X” rating (or “suitable for those aged 16 and over”) in the UK. Though not intended for children, many undoubtedly saw the film as kids and were profoundly affected by it. The film, designed by Paul Julian, borrows both from Dali-esque surrealism and German expressionism.

My dreams lately have been mostly repetitive. Getting new toy wolves/animals for my collection. Going to some unspecified mountain and/or cave. The usual vague school/uni-related dreams. Getting killed by the UPA in 1943 volhynia. Vague "Backrooms" esque dreams usually in an infinite version of my own house.
I forget most when waking up. Like last night it was a mountaineering dream but I don't even know where I specifically was or if anything noteworthy happened I just generally remember the Mountain Setting.

Ohh I haven't had this happen to me too often? But I think about a year ago I was trying my hand at the UPA esque style for the first time but I messed it up. One of my friends said it looked like Cyberchase lol

Forgot to upload this here. Another character and outfit ref, this time for Juliette, someone who isn’t part of the same universe as my monster characters. The story she’s a part of is called THE ANDROID AGE (aka with all my retro future ocs). It’s something I’m putting on the back burner for now so I can really crank out.. whatever I have going with my other story
Juliette’s full bio is available on toyhouse too
