Updates/Changes:

Changes to Amaryllis' arms - When Amaryllis fell in Santalune and Xerneas found her, the god used their power to bestow false arms to her. The arms are the same material Xerneas' antlers are made of, and are the same pale blue color as their inactive state, complete with several darker blue spots at various parts of both arms. Should Amaryllis regain control over her powers and use them, her arms would change and resemble Xerneas' active state. Glowing gold with multicolored spots in several colors. This immense and delicate show of craftsmanship and power from Xerneas, along with healing Amaryllis enough to put her in a stable - but comatose - state was ultimately what put Xerneas into their own slumber and reverted them to their tree form. There are no changes to her lack of healing prowess in present time - Amaryllis is still unable to use her healing powers from thousands of years in the past, and struggles immensely with the feeling of her identity being stripped away from her. Amaryllis has spent every ounce of free time she's had upon reawakening to try and utilize her powers to no avail, and is continually left wondering what is wrong with her.

Updates to Amaryllis' fae lineage - Her very first ancestor, the one first blessed by Xerneas, was fully fae. This is an aspect of her ancestors that had held, though the fae lineage in Amaryllis isn't as potent as it was thousands of years prior due to intermingling with humans at a certain point. However, it is still notable enough to mention. This is something she is aware of, as she's familiar with her family history, though she doesn't quite know what it truly entails for her. This manifests in combination with the life aura she had been exposed to for thousands of years. Life around Amaryllis seems to flourish, almost unnaturally. Flowers sprout in her wake, turning to her as if she is the sun. Decaying plant life perks up in her presence, and even those who are suffering from an illness or low energy are left feeling slightly more vitalized after being in her presence. It is nowhere near the same intensity and potency as Xerneas' aura and what they can do for people, however being exposed to such a strong aura for so many years combined with her fae half has caused some notable changes. Along with that, some strands of her hair almost seem to glow iridescently in direct sunlight, though it can be hard to tell if it's a simple trick of the eye or not.

Not only are they fun (MC customization, a switch port, expanded voice-over work, more sprites, mini-games, side stories), but I think they'd spark a lot of serotonin for folks playing (myself included).

The punishment of Pandora's jar illustrated by me

Seeking retribution for being betrayed by prometheus, Zeus forms a cunning punishment for humanity. He orders ingenious Hephaestus to mix water and soil to form a maiden: Pandora, the first woman of the mortal race. The olympians impart gifts and attributes into her. From Athena, the skill of needlework and weaving, Aphrodite; “cruel longing and dares that weary the limbs.” Hermes; …”a shameless mind and deceitful nature.” Athena clothes her in a “silvery rainment” and an “embroidered veil,” the Charities offer necklaces of gold, and the Horai crown her head with spring flowers. Hephaestus forges a crown of gold for her head.

Zeus then orders Hermes to deliver Pandora carrying a jar as a wedding gift to Prometheus’ brother, Epimetheus, (who had already been warned by Prometheus never to accept gifts from Zeus.) But bewitched by her beauty and splendor, Epimetheus accepts. But Pandora’s curiosity gets the better of her and she opens the jar, releasing ills, toil, sickness, sorrow, and mischief into the world of humankind. She covers the jar before the final trait can escape: Hope. So it thus remains for mortals to use.

On one hand, this tale can certainly be a reflection of misogyny from a patriarchal society. On the other hand, this simplistic and sexist view clearly wasn’t universally reflected amongst all greek cultures and mythic literature, with the creation of powerful female heroines like Atalanta and Penthisilea who exercise real agency in their destinies, or goddesses like the mother goddess of Ephesian Artemis in Anatolia, or the war-like Aphrodite Areia of Sparta. Even more nuanced are the vengeful female antiheroes like Cyltemnestra or Medea, who lash back at the patriarchal suppression they face.

I'm high key obsessed with the ways Armored Core 6 gives us multiple characters that are a mirrors to 621 and/or you as a player

What follows will be spoilers that include stuff all the way up to the New Game++ ending. Don't click if you're not okay with spoilers:

There are a couple that immediately jumped out to me.

The first is V.I Freud. The first sign you get that he is a mirror to the player is that he is ranked number 1 in the arena, and his bio says people speculate that he is heavily augmented and gets unethical "updates" like snail does. But the truth is that he's not augmented and he's just someone who really fucking loves being an AC pilot. Like us as players, he's just here for the love of the experience. This is further displayed by the fact that even though he is technically commander of the Vespers, he's absent from the story until it's time to fight him. Because he has no interest in doing what Snail does, engaging in logistics and command and subterfuge. He just wants to pilot his mech. And then you finally meet him in the Fires of Raven ending... and his first action is to kill Chatty and complain about the lack of challenge. And you get this chilling mirror into what your devastation across Rubicon has been like. Every AC pilot you've taken on was loved by someone. The way Carla loved Chatty (the way I loved Chatty too). And the rest of the fight is filled with great moments, like Freud silencing Snail on the radio and him revelling in your fight... but the tone has been irreversibly changed by his cold blooded killing of Chatty. To Freud, I'm sure Chatty felt like just another side objective or Loghunt. Freud's fight is an amazing way to make the player reflect in my opinion.

THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO AVOID NG++ SPOILERS

The next one is more of a reflection to 621 in world than the player. Gun 5 Iguazu. I loved this dude and his shitty attitude from the moment I met him. He was such a perfect dickhead. Just a sassy dude. And then you read his arena bio and you realise he sasses you because he gets shit from the other redguns all the time and is scraping for any control in his life. It doesn't make him less of an ass, but you get it on some level.

Then the NG+ missions start happening, and you keep having these fights with Iguazu. It's almost funny how mad he gets and how relentless he is in trying to kill you. And he might take you down once or twice, but you can reload saves and he can't so he's doomed to fail. And he just gets angrier. He even sends a full on assassin to kill you, just to feel in control. In another world the game would be about Iguazu trying to finally beat his rival 621.

He gets more and more desperate. As you take the Coral Release ending he shows up when you ambush Snail, and he's more desparate. A few times he's mentioned a noise in his head he can't get rid of. It's a little unsettling. You continue down the path, get to the final boss, and... it's Iguazu. Sort of. He's joined with Allmind and is serving as its pilot to take you down. It's funny at first, at least I found it so. "No way! Iguazu is the final boss? Hilarious!"

Then you hear his dialogue. I had forgotten by this point that his arena bio says he's also a gen 4 augmented human. And it clicks.

In another world he really *could* have been the protagonist. He's a gen 4 like you. That noise he's been hearing? It was Allmind (And in the same way Iguazu is your reflection, Allmind is Ayre's reflection. Listen to the way Allmind talks to Iguazu. It's more manipulative than Ayre, but when Iguazu overloads your ACS Allmind tells him to take advantage of it the same way Ayre tells you to take advantage when Iguazu's ACS is overloaded). He wants to have the agency 621 has, he wants to have the skills 621 has, when he hears voices he doesn't want it to be painful... he wants a friend like 621 has. Walter says gen 4's can have trouble with their augmentations and we don't really see that with 621, but I get the impression Iguazu DOES struggle and he looks at 621 and says "Why? Why do they get to be free while I suffer?" Which becomes even more painful when you pick a fight with him at the Galia Dam.

As he says with his dying breath... he was envious of 621. And if you're anything like me it makes you reflect on things. Look into the mirror that Iguazu is and was. Think about the life 621 might have led if they weren't the chosen one who gets to be player character. This is not to say 621 does not suffer throughout AC6, because they are often treated like an object, a tool, or an animal. But it does make you think about how things would be if they weren't such a good pilot.

Anyway, yeah AC6 is good.

personal update ~

SO, connecting with Nahua people and learning about the culture and history and language and everything has been such an absolutely WILD journey so far. the metaphor I've been using is like, if every Big Thing in my life that requires time and effort to process (traumas but also just surprises, abrupt and/or huge changes, big realizations, shocking news, etc) is a city inside my brain, deciding to pursue this and finally embrace this part of myself has been a Jericho ass experience - walls of the city crashing down, flood gates open type shit. it's exhilarating and healing and inspiring and fulfilling, absolutely, but there's also a lot of complexity and there's grief and rage I've been trying to suppress for a long time, and a pretty intense shift in my baseline perspective/way of interacting with the world around me. and it feels so much more authentic and whole, like something caged that needed to get out is finally free, but now that thing has to learn to survive in the wild. does that make any sense?

but one of the really really interesting experiences I'm having is that, like, SOOOO many of my tastes, my idiosyncrasies, the wildly strong sense of self I've had since birth and the traits that compose it... these are things adopted kids don't get to see any of reflected in the people around them growing up the way bio kids do. these are the things that drive us to find and meet our bio relatives. so all these things I expected to recognize, to see reflected back, when I met my birth mother as a teenager, it just didn't happen with her... at all. no recognition or spark or soul bond or whatever. not in her or her sister or her parents or her daughters, my half sisters. in fact, I drifted away from them pretty quickly, feeling like we just... didn't have anything in common, as counterintuitive as it might seem (I never met my birth father, for context, btw). I just sort of accepted that I was an anomaly and it was a mystery where my personality and tastes and quirks come from. but doing this work, learning about the culture most of the other half of me comes from, I'm actually experiencing that feeling I expected to feel when I met my birth mother. that giddy "oh, that's just like me!" feeling. over and over, about big and small parts of what makes me Josefina. it took me by such surprise, but I feel... it's hard to explain because I didn't feel inauthentic or incomplete before, but I feel MORE of myself now. like, larger in spirit, more robust in self? idk, and idk if anyone will have a clue what I'm trying to say here, but I wanted to update yall since so many of you helped me get to this point! 💖💖💖

NEW AND IMPROVED DESIGNS AND CHARACTER BIOS!

For a while now, I’ve been unhappy with the current designs of the Bugswap cast, so instead of wallowing in my frustration, I decided to finally do something about it. So after a few days, I whipped up the most recent and updated version of the cast — both in designs and in profiles!

Under the readmore, I’ll go into more detail about my design process and what I changed. So if that stuff makes you curious, feel free to read on!

Now with all that soft rebooting out of the way, things should be back up to speed! Thanks for all your patience and support!

Filbo: I feel like Filbo’s design was too cluttered. So, the most I did was just cut off Filbo’s sleeves. Additionally, I gave Filbo a hat reminiscent of old Newsboy hats. I also shifted his electoral badge to his hat, so it’d mirror the press paper commonly seen on hats on journalist designs.

Ripley: I decided to make Ripley look more like my design for the journalist. I also removed the pattern on their shirt.

Triffany: I decided to make Triffany wear just one shirt with a ribbon around the neck. It gives her more of a rustic old-fashioned feel.

Wambus: I didn’t change much of Wambus’ design. Yay for Wambus!

Cromdo: I ditched Cromdo’s previous outfit altogether and gave him a tacky tourist shirt with a pattern similar to his necktie. I felt like the previous outfit didn’t reflect his personality in this AU, so the Hawaiian shirt leans more into the sleaziness of him!

Beffica: Like Wambus, I didn’t change much with Beffica. The most I did was replace her sash with a vest (common in Girl Scout juniors) and simplify the detail on her necklace.

Gramble: I decided to remove the Strabby and bandana to keep his color pallet consistent. Additionally, he now longer plays the banjo and is now a violinist (or rather fiddler).

Wiggle: I made her color pallet consist more of browns because her previous color palette was too clashy. She also has a little Cinnasnail beanie. In terms of backstory, I decided to remove the aspect of her being a child star and made her more of a traditional “lonely rich child” archetype.

Snorpy: I took Snorpy’s hair down and made it more au natural, mostly so he and Flooftix look more similar. For a while, I was divisive about Snorpy’s outfit, but I figured the “shirt-atop-a-long-sleeves” look fit his skater style. I also gave him a new T-shirt to fit him being a skater more.

Chandlo: I gave Chandlo a new outfit altogether since his previous one didn’t fit him. I gave him an outfit closer to Snorpy’s current outfit, so he resembles something of a blacksmith.

Flooftix: I didn’t change much with Flooftix. I simplified the pattern on their flower crown, and I now gave them a little stick cane to tie back into them being disabled (here, they just have a really bad knee as apprised to self-induced amputation).

Shellsy: I didn’t change Shellsy all too much. She’s pretty tried and true.

Eggabell: Her new outfit is a mix of both Lizbert’s canon outfit and her previous outfit. I think the dark browns create a nice contrast on her primarily white color palette.

Lizbert: I decided to just give her Eggabell’s canon outfit. Other than that, not much else has changed.

TUFF UPDATE 9/7/23

You know... I always talk about how I started The Closet Door, sorta like those old geezers in the 1980s movies. "Back when I first started this game in fall of 2019..."

But this is this is the first time I can talk about actually finishing it. I've been avoiding discussing it for a while. So much has happened in the last year. When I finally got to a point I could have released TCD, I won't lie- I got scared. I learned the world is a rough place. Even in the indie game development arena. Not everyone has your best interest at heart as a creative, and just about anything in life can happen, regardless of what your goals and plans are- including while making a game.

I am so very fortunate to work with others to bring Lake of Reflection - a short visual novel about life, loss and community to life. If I'd never made that much smaller game, I'd never have the courage to release TCD, which has grown so close to my heart, along with everyone that has joined me during my journey to complete it. Thank you so much everyone who helped me make this game. In so many ways, I am like Zeroi- humbled by your kindness and support more than you can ever know.

My first full length project, The Closet Door will be available to play on November 1st, 2023. I think I've discussed all the features (except for some of the backgrounds having animations) before- but if you'd like to know more about the game's features, its synopsis, as well as read the main character bios, you should check out the game page and make sure to follow for the notification when the game goes live!

I'm not going to delete this ask or remove the link just yet, as I am uncomfortable doing so without 100% certainty that they are a scammer. I'm not going to fault any of these accounts for borrowing messages or for sending multiple asks, but I will confirm that I did receive another ask from this account with the same text after posting replies to other fundraisers.

I do not fault the borrowing of messages, in the event that someone struggles with their english; this is definitely more questionable depending on how personally specific to the asker the message seems, I will concede.

I do not fault the repetition of asks, as these are 1) desperate people, 2) people who do not have the luxury of remembering every account they've sent asks to before in the midst of genocide, and 3) if they've got the know-how or ability to, or someone to do it for them, I would not be surprised or offended or anything else if I learned that some of these accounts work on a sort of bot system to help spread their fundraisers. I will repeat that these are desperate people.

I have moved my original response below the cut; the only reason I am comfortable making this edit is because this is an unvetted fundraiser. (In my original response, I said it seemed "largely legitimate" from what I could tell, and from what information I could find at the time.)

If this fundraiser is confirmed without a doubt to be a scammer, please do inform me! Same goes for any of the fundraisers I share here.

The Punishment of Pandora’s Jar

         Seeking retribution for being betrayed by prometheus, Zeus forms a cunning punishment for humanity. He orders ingenious Hephaestus to mix water and soil to form a maiden: Pandora, the first woman of the mortal race. The olympians impart gifts and attributes into her. From Athena, the skill of needlework and weaving, Aphrodite; “cruel longing and dares that weary the limbs.” Hermes; …”a shameless mind and deceitful nature.” Athena clothes her in a “silvery rainment” and an “embroidered veil,” the Charities offer necklaces of gold, and the Horai crown her head with spring flowers. Hephaestus forges a crown of gold for her head.

Zeus then orders Hermes to deliver Pandora carrying a jar as a wedding gift to Prometheus’ brother, Epimetheus, (who had already been warned by Prometheus never to accept gifts from Zeus.) But bewitched by her beauty and splendor, Epimetheus accepts. But Pandora’s curiosity gets the better of her and she opens the jar, releasing ills, toil, sickness, sorrow, and mischief into the world of humankind. She covers the jar before the final trait can escape: Hope. So it thus remains for mortals to use.

After the Pandora story in Theogany, Hesiod goes on to detail negative aspects of women and their influence on Humanity. On one hand, this can certainly be a reflection of misogyny from a patriarchal society. On the other hand, this simplistic and sexist view clearly wasn’t universally reflected amongst all greek cultures and mythic literature, with the creation of powerful female heroines like Atalanta and Penthisilea who exercise real agency in their destinies, or goddesses like the protective mother goddess of Ephesian Artemis in Anatolia, or the war-like Aphrodite Areia of Sparta. Even more nuanced are the vengeful female antiheroes like Clytemnestra or Medea, who lash back at the patriarchal suppression they face.
