I don't have a ball winder and I've only got two bobbins. What's a spinner to do?
DIY ball winder, of course.

im sorry digital world analog devices no matter how finicky or straight up entirely more liable to be defective or time/money consuming will always have the top shelf in my heart
#🫶#the new handheld cassette recorder/player i ordered came in the mail so my huge dusty cassette collection is so back#my last car had a cassette player which was so epic but at the same time as getting a new car my cassette players went out -_-#they were cheapy tbh this one is waaay nicer quality and has epic uncommon features (record double speed + variable fast/reg/slow playback#speed dial) but its been like a year... i was starting to feel bad about owning so many cassettes...#i love this thing it records so well and plays back so well and i can mess with the playback its so fun !#i dont feel like i have to be esp careful using it either which is a new sensation and a beautiful relief#its just funny cuz it came in the mail on my lovers bday >~< which seems so silly to me like its not my bday!! but i got a great gift ^.^#i have 108 (rym catalogable) cassettes (plus more) and some were more than i pay for cds... or blurays for that matter..#this is so exciting ! if only my new cars cd player didnt start acting up tonite too.. thats okie tho... i just need a good record player !

I feel like this has been asked before, but i can't seem to find it, but every vessel had "stats" right?, which brings me to my question:
Could you maybe tell us vaguely what the stats are? (if i remember this all correctly)
Also a question regarding the color of the sigils that we pick in the beginning, do they mean something, do they influence something?
Yes, there are stats tied to each helspawn! :)
The game doesn't make it explicitly clear (by design, lol) but there are three stats: brawn, dexterity, and cunning. Throughout the game, certain choices might increase one of these.
Sylvans start with +2 brawn and +1 dexterity, barghests start with +2 dexterity and +1 cunning, nokken start with +2 cunning and +1 dexterity, and basilisks receive 1 point in each.
Your weapon style also adds points: the greatsword adds +2 brawn and +1 dexterity, dual blades +2 dexterity and +1 cunning, and shield and flail adds +2 cunning and +1 brawn.
As for the helvling's markings, their colour doesn't really influence the story besides various different flavour texts. ^^
#asks#in the old version of the game I had I think... four different variables?#ah yes they were vigour speed mind and glamour#these have just been sort of incorporated into the 'playbook' of each entity

This is all going to turn into an electrical engineering project at some point, isn't it?

After TWO YEARS since I made that parrot food transparency post ONE company might actually be providing me with an Actual Feeding Trial
#they have sent me one kinda ehhhhh report so far#that’s kinda got too many loose variables#demoing their food use in breeding health comparing on their food to not#showing health of chicks n parent and speed of fledging#as proof of its viability#but it’s comparing to data that’s kinda assumed not for sure known#but it’s still!#better than nothing!

"Boil water to turn fan" as if multistage steam turbine generators are not one of the sexiest kinds of machines every made

nuclear power is impressive until you get up to why. "we use the most precisely engineered machinery ever created to split atoms to release energy" oh yeah how come? "boil water to turn a fan" get the fuck out
#its genuinely crazy the math and engineering that go into making these absolutely massive steam turbines#its an incredible balancing act to optimize between the interconnected variables of pressure velocity and temperature in order#to extract as much energy as possible from the steam as it moves through the system#especially like. those generators need to maintain a very precise rotational speed in order to prevent the coupled generator#from going out of phase with the power grid#(3000 RPM for 50 Hz grids and 3600 RPM for 60 Hz grids)#like the reactor part sounds like a lot of engineering work (and it is!) but like. the turbine is fucking incredibly impressive too#each one of those turbine stages needs to have very specifically shaped blades in order to control steam pressure drop and steam velocity#and the blades need to be able to physically handle being in a wet (at least for nuclear plants where the steam is pretty wet) high temp#environment and constantly being spun at high rotational speeds for decades at a time.#we had to develop specialized nickel titanium superalloys with tightly controlled crystalline structures in order to build turbines this big#stare into the depths of “wow we really just use steam to spin a big fan that sounds simple” and you encounter#the lifes work of thousands of mathematicians computer engineers material scientists and mechanical engineers#the first device we could call a steam turbine was made as a toy in tthe first century ancient greece and egypt#the first steam turbine with a practical use was described in 1551 in Ottoman Egypt. it was used to turn a spit of meat over a fire.#the first modern multistage impluse steam turbine was made in 1884 and revolutionized electricity generation and marine propulsion#in the 141 years since there have been more improvements than one could even list#from major design changes credited to great men to miniscule efficiencies and optimizations gained from tweaking the composition of an alloy#idk. i think its beautiful to think about the web of human knowledge woven collectively by thousands of hands across history#could you imagine what the ancient greek engineers who first put together the prototype for an aeolipile would think to see what we have#made now. could they even recognize our designs as belonging to the same category of object as their little toy#anyway#appreciate the humble steam turbine with the same eye you give to the reactor core#mine#just my thoughts

taking daily walks around the purok. there's 3 main streets so that makes at least 6 potential routes wrapping back around to the house. also barely any traffic so i can listen to podcasts w/o being too alert.
#also it feels different at different times of day so that adds a lot of variability. 4 potential routes for morning afternoon and evenings =#12 routes#and also rainy days if i'm in the mood. different walking speeds. more variability. never get bored.#roomba rambles#txt

Invest in Speed Limit Signs to Enhance Safety and Prevent Accidents
When you are driving you see speed limit signs every day. They could be for residential areas, commercial areas or many more. The reason these signs are extremely important are because they help prevent accidents. They give us instructions on what speed to follow for our safety and security. Samson Hire’s portable variable speed limit signs are trailer mounted, solar powered and employ logging technology allowing all speed changes to be fully recorded. They are also easy to maintain and super durable. Visit https://samsonhire.com.au/product/variable-speed-limit-sign/ to learn more.

op how could you leave out gonzo 😢
NOAA has a third member of its hurricane fleet and that is Gonzo the Gulfstream-IV

NOAA has a whole blog post about these aircraft and their backstory: https://celebrating200years.noaa.gov/magazine/muppets/welcome.html
This is especially frustrating because the only reason we know the wind speed is because NOAA's Hurricane Hunters literally fly into the hurricane and collect vital data. They fly in and out of the storm over and over in 8 hour shifts.
This brave team flies two identical Lockheed P3s called Kermit and Miss Piggy.

You can see the dangling ornaments in the videos to determine which plane they are in.
And when I say they fly into the hurricane, I mean they fly *into* the hurricane.
Here they are in the eye of Milton.
And here they are in the eye of Irma.
youtube
As you may notice, this flight was in Kermit.
So the next time you see live data about a hurricane's wind speed and pressure, just remember how that was collected and don't be a giant turd about it.

And please vote because conservatives want to kill NOAA.
#anyway the name cat turd must be in reference to twitter dude's brain composition#bc i'm p sure everyone who's ever been outside knows wind is easily the most erratic weather variable out there#when i did weather obs we had to take 1-min wind averages bc guess what? even in the course of 1 min the speed/direction changes a lot#weather#meteorology
