Ladies don't travel to another country with a man if your legal status is uncertain. If you do hold onto your passport and make sure your ticket isn't a one way.
Exit trafficking: Western Sydney man abandons his wife overseas after she fell out with his mum
Western Sydney man convicted over 'exit trafficking'
He took his wife abroad, but only he had a return ticket

A western Sydney man who abandoned his wife overseas after she fell out with his mother has been convicted over what is known as 'exit trafficking'.
It is a type of modern slavery where women are tricked or coerced into leaving a country, in this case Australia, and prevented from returning.
The 44-year-old man, who lives in Merrylands in Sydney's south-west, took his wife on 'a charity mission' to their home country of Afghanistan in January 2018, police said.
But the man, known as AR to protect his family, only had a return ticket for himself. His wife did not realise that her ticket was one-way to Afghanistan.
The day after he returned to Australia, AR wrote to the Department of Home Affairs, cancelling the sponsorship of his wife's visa, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.
He did so because his mum didn't like his wife, and it resulted in the woman he had been married to for four years being stranded overseas.
The woman's relatives helped get her back to Australia, where she reported her husband to the police.
AR's conviction last Friday was the third such exit trafficking conviction in Australia.
He was sentenced to two years jail with 12 months of it to be served in the community on a good behaviour bond.
Tumblr media
Human rights activist Helena Hassani said there has been an increase in such oppression of women, often in migrant communities, in Australia.
While there are many cases involving men from Afghan and other migrant communities taking their wives abroad and leaving them there, she said there are also many cases where 'Aussie men marry women from Asia, bring them here, but marry them into servitude, or treat them like sex workers'.
Many women, such as AR's wife, are only in Australia on partner visas, leaving them reliant on their husband's sponsorship to stay in the country.
Some women in these communities are discouraged from using money, getting an education or working outside the home because the men want a 'servant'.
'It's a cultural practice where the less educated women are, the happier men are, because then no one is challenging them, no one is confronting them, and they just live the way they want to live,' Ms Hassani told the publication.
Acting Detective Sergeant Sarah Manning of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said exit trafficking often goes unreported.
Tumblr media
No one has the right to 'cancel' another person's visa, including the visa sponsor,' she said.
'This type of behaviour is a Commonwealth offence and carries a potential 12-year jail term.'
The first exit-trafficking conviction was in 2021, when a man from Lidcombe in western Sydney threatened to murder a woman unless she boarded a flight to India with her infant child.
The horrific interaction was captured on Sydney Airport's CCTV after the anti-human trafficking group Anti Slavery Australia told the AFP what happened.
Anyone with information about potential modern slavery or trafficking is urged to report it to Australian Federal Police on 131 237.

Never wanted a trip to Madrid so badly. 😭😭😭 Also, that is Palacio Real de Madrid, it can be visited just like a museum, my sister was there this year, the ticket is not that expensive. Noah took a pic of the Comedor de Gala, in case you want to look it up.

Namibian Michelle Nehoya has spent nearly $500 (£390) on the application process for a visa to visit Canada - but almost two years later it has yet to materialise. The 38-year-old, who lives in Namibia's capital, Windhoek, is desperate to get to Quebec to see her aunt and cousins whom she has not seen for almost a decade. The visa application has involved filling in multiple forms - and among other requirements, she has also had to provide six months of bank statements, an invitation letter plus a detailed travel history. There is no way to apply in Namibia, so this has also meant travelling to South Africa to submit her biometric data, which involves giving her fingerprints and having a photo taken. Her experience is not uncommon for Africans travelling to Western countries. In 2022, seven of the top 10 countries with the highest visa rejection rates in the bloc of European countries known as the Schengen area were African, according to consultancy firm Henley and Partners. […] From next April, Canadian nationals, along with those from Germany, the US, the UK and 29 other countries, will require a visa for entry. These include all “non-reciprocating countries” - meaning the new visa rules will affect citizens from all countries that require Namibian passport holders to have visas. “Namibia has extended gestures of goodwill and favourable treatment to nationals of various countries. However, despite these efforts, certain nations have not reciprocated,” Namibia’s immigration ministry said in May. “In light of this disparity, the government has deemed it necessary to implement a visa requirement to ensure parity and fairness in diplomatic interactions.” But these visitors will be able to buy their 90-day visa, costing $90, on arrival in Namibia - unlike the onerous requirements placed on African passport holders who need to get their visas beforehand.
They should at least make the visa as expensive as it is for Namibians to get a visa so if it costs $500 for a Canadian visa then it should cost Canadians the same plus the addition of the cost of travel to South Africa to get the visa. If the UK charges £1000 for a visa then UK nationals should pay that amount for a Namibian visa. The same goes for all the other countries whose nationals have to jump through hoops to get a western visa.

i'm a day late but 中秋节快乐 ! this year i made teochew style taro mooncakes. i've made them before as my grandparents on my dad's side are from shantou
this year i mixed the taro with okinawan purple sweet potato as taro paste itself doesn't have much colour. within the taro paste filling itself, i inserted a salted duck egg yolk ; i was worried about running out of them so i cut them in quarters but i'm sure it would have been more visually appealing to have a whole egg yolk to contrast. the dough that covers the taro filling is a combination of a water dough and an oil dough - i added some ube extract and coconut milk to the oil dough. traditionally when you roll them out the layers should result in a spiral but ... i'm not the best at getting that perfect spiral to come out after they're baked so i went for a marbling effect.

Hello everyone, I am: alive. And in Toronto! Can you imagine? What a life.
I’m sitting on the bed of the airbnb thinking I need to buy groceries and makeup remover. It’s raining outside, but not too much. I’ve landed on Monday at 20.30 (sorry, 8.30pm) after 15 hours with a layover in the US, where there were “do not bring your firearms inside” signs and it was hilarious and terrifying at the same time. In Toronto’s airport I went through immigration (two excruciating hours because what if they don’t like me) and claimed my baggage (two high pressure minutes because what if they lost it), then my boss and his wife picked me up to eat noodles and bring me to the airbnb. The place is nice, very sexy shower, quiet roommates, very close to work. By the way, today’s my first day at the school and I can’t wait to receive my uniform sweater. I didn’t start yesterday because I went around to get a new SIM card, create a bank account and get my SIN number. I also bought nail polish for the first time and later that night I made a big crazy mess.
This whole thing cannot describe how weird it is, I’m swinging from wonder to panic to wonder to panic to “it’s finally happening” to “it’s ok, breathe, don’t cry in public” to “this place is awesome” to “I need a human to talk to”.
Housing is a big question mark, prices are bonkers and for now my income isn’t much. My boss is super chill, he says it’ll increase in a couple of months so I shouldn’t worry. How can I explain to him that I worry constantly? I should work on this in therapy, when I’ll be able to afford it.
Lastly, sorry for disappearing, I had so much on my mind I couldn’t do anything more than staying with my loved ones and checking that everything was right for my departure. I’ve missed you and I’m sorry I’ve missed your posts and adventures. I can’t wait to catch up with you 💛 I love you so much
