I'm scrolling through some ambient noises to help me write, and it got me thinking. Y'know those white noise machines people use for sleeping?

Do you think there's a very specific brand marketed at Gothamites?

Like everyone else has rainy nights on the beach, whale song, the crackle of the campfire, and everyone's all-time favorite "rickety fan about to oscillate off your shitty ikea desk at four in the morning."

And then there's "The Sounds of Gotham," a nighttime ambiance made up of heavy thunderstorms interspaced with the wail of police sirens and the occasional smattering of gunfire.

If you upgrade to premium, you can get the added sound effect of "small vigilante child dropping onto your apartment roof followed by the heavy pitter-patter of their combat boots as they dropkick a criminal off the fire escape."

merlin told arthur his favorite color was the color of the sky during sunset when it shifted into a deep violet. arthur gets a tunic made in that exact shade. its the best thing merlin owns. arthur was hoping that would mean he’d wear it almost everyday but merlin almost never wears it. the only time he does wear it is when royals come to visit (which isn’t all that often). arthur “subtly” asks about it and merlin is like “it’s the best thing i own. i’m not gonna dirty it mucking out the stables or serving rowdy knights wine while they splatter food on it” and arthur is like “why not wear it when nobles come to visit? look at least a little presentable for them” (cough nice save). merlin doesn’t see the point in it bc nobles don’t care about him at best, view him as less than human at worst.

arthur really just wants to see his boyfriend servant in the tunic he had made for him (bonus points for sending a message that merlin is his. not that merlin seems to notice. man is too much of an idiot). merlin wants to preserve his favorite tunic and gift from his boyfriend king.

Y’know, I’m on Lucanis’ side on Villa Dellamorte needing a physically separate Guest House.

Consider - what kind of people are likely to have been guests of House Dellamorte and the First Talon? This is not a question of a finding a spare bedroom for Auntie Mabel and her flatulent mabari, or letting cousin Illario sleep on your sofa because he got dumped (yet) again.

You’ve an entire Opera House available on-site to provide a suitably dramatic backdrop to your all-staff briefings - the Guests in question are other Talons and their entourages, Merchant Princes and their agendas, senior assassins in town on business, and similar dubious characters you don’t want sleeping under the same roof as your children, but to whom you nevertheless have to be hospitable.

At the scale the Talons are operating at, a separate guest house isn’t actually the worst idea.
