HMMMMM...... maybe this is erin's weird fuck ass dream. somehow. maybe she's chessguy. since i assume id have met them before if they're asking me if i happen to know their name? maybe? or i dont. regardless. erin is the only one whos in 1st person, so. hmmm
im also interested with the person i dont?? know?? thats melting beside kanon. maybe they aren't someone i ever know- and just there because they've already died and just haunt the narrative as one of the white pieces. maybe?
ALSO. sorry its like a million pieces of fragmented character bits i've got shit to SAY. kanon is interesting. ik im reaching sooo far and he's probably just a freak [affectionate] but he really does look like a priest from medieval europe. and i kind of hope that something along the lines of him being from a Wayyy different time period is like correct bc i think it'd be super interesting. stranger to everyone, including himself- because theres no place he'd ever belong, yknow!!! strung across time; family doesn't recognize him anymore, no one really Gets him in whatever time period he's meant to be protecting. you dig?
ALSOALSOOOOOOOOO melia. idfk whats happening there. but know that i am pointing at her and going She's Strange! i think she's one of the interceptors ya? or one of the light thingies from that text on... some fuckass inscribed wall i forgot. where her past present and future all affect the world at once [cuz tiempa and spacea or whatever are fucking her shit up big time] all the while she has the capacity for Professional Tom Foolery? she can save or wreck the world but it's already been decided because of another melia thats already done it because of another melia thats already done it because of another melia so on and so forth. yknow? maybe

I was reading a post about CoTG and I realized: Rick has seemingly started to write every character pairing with the exact same dynamic, and he's not good at writing that dynamic and it doesn't make sense for 90% of the characters he writes it for.
It's that very specific dynamic of one half of the pair who is almost aggressive to the other party - "teasing" them constantly/insulting them, affectionately punching/judo flipping/maiming/etc, seemingly almost always exasperated with the other - and said other party usually just accepts this treatment or blanketly views it fondly, and may generally be framed as more incompetent than their partner and a little bit of a doormat (particularly relating to being insulted/teased/etc by their partner).
We start seeing this dynamic in HoO with Percy and Annabeth, as a sort of semi-inconsistent twist on their rivals-to-friends-to-lovers dynamic from the first series. Then the dynamic pattern develops further with Leo and Calypso. Then Magnus and Alex. Then Nico and Will, particularly in TSATS. And now in CoTG, it's Percy and Annabeth again but even more in this direction.
I know people have talked about Nico and Will's relationship over the series rapidly being shoehorned into Percabeth Two™, and it's extremely apparent in TSATS that Rick's doing it on purpose (including directly quoting Percabeth scenes but minorly tweaking them to be Solangelo). But recognizing it as an overarching trend in Rick's later books honestly reminds me a lot of how Rick started trying to apply the "Percy Formula" so-to-speak to nearly every protagonist in HoO (and then try to replicate similar character archetypes with Magnus and Apollo's narrations - moreso Magnus in being jaded and sarcastic, very much trying to be first series Percy. He only sounds unique because Rick failed at making him Percy 2. Apollo is more akin to later-series Percy characterization of being goofy and incompetent. Apollo [and Zeus] even got retconned to give Apollo a more similar backstory to Percy's). Rick seems to have decided that he thinks the audience wants this specific dynamic but 10 times over, except he's not good at writing it the first time because it's a bastardization of the time he did a different thing okay.
And Rick also seems aware of that too! Because he retconned Calypso and Leo at the end of TOA, probably because he realized how absolutely awful it was reading when they were written with that dynamic of Calypso just functionally hating Leo and constantly being aggressive towards him! The only time Rick's actually made the dynamic even semi-successful was with Magnus and Alex, because it actually fits within their characters, their dynamics with each other, and their environment. Alex beheading Magnus on the regular works out fine because there are no repercussions to that in Valhalla, Magnus will be fine, so it does genuinely come off as humorous. And Alex has been effectively established to be abrasive at times but have her genuine feelings shine through regularly, and that meshes well with Magnus' jaded-and-aloof-but-quietly-very-empathetic character. And Magnus has been established to, yes, not be great at combat, particularly compared to Alex. They are the only time that flavor of dynamic in that form was effective and cohesive.
Percabeth is no longer rivals-to-friends-to-lovers badasses on equal levels with shaky pasts who finally found some form of permanence with one another. Now it's super smart doting and affectionately aggressive girlfriend and her silly goofy 50%-of-the-time incompetent boyfriend who she judo flips/pushes off cliffs/etc - but affectionately~! Solangelo is trying to riff off of the early series "Poseidon & Athena are enemies" dynamic that Percabeth had but with Apollo & Hades being "opposites" but learning to accept each other, except it ends up with Will just coming off as a huge asshole and Nico being retconned to a complete doormat about it - when prior to that those characterizations would be completely contrary to their established characters (even just from TOA!). Calypso in HoO gets retconned from her PJO characterization to being snooty and aggressive, and Leo's false persona gets merged into his just normal personality except he just also becomes a doormat but more goofy than Nico with occasional haha-dark/depression-humor! Which Nico also got. Which was also a bastardized Percy trait that got redistributed.
It's exhausting. Rick write more than one relationship dynamic you can do it I promise

Worm Arc 24 thoughts:
. . . fucking . . . fuck. Just . . . fuck. Fucking fucky fucking FUCK, THAT WAS SO BADASS!!!!!
ALL OF IT HOLY SHIT I DON'T CARE, JUST PICK ANY MOMENT!! EVERYTHING EVERYONE DID WAS BADASS!
LIKE. FUCK. COLIN GOT TO LOOK BADASS.
He even got "yelling in caps" badass. Just for the one scene when he picked up Chevy. He did one fucking thing right, which was help someone up and then let THEM be cool.
And speaking of . . . HOLY FUCKING SHIT CHEVY! YOU DIDN'T GET KILLED BY TIME TRAVEL CHAD!
WHICH MEANS I DON'T HATE YOU ANYMORE!
WHICH MEANS I CAN SHOUT ABOUT HOW BADASS THAT WAS!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck waiting for my interlude section to talk about this. That final scene with Behemoth was one of the most visually badass things I have ever read in my life! Fuck. I get fucking chills just thinking about it.
I can see that entire last fight in my head very clearly, almost like remembering an anime scene. Perfectly written.
And Regent! Look at you go, that's character growth!
I mean sure, you died. But growth!
Besides, you dying legit made Imp cooler. She was already great but "I'm going to fucking kill his dad for him" is even better! And Wanton's apparently got jokes so we still have a funny guy.
Basically if someone had to die I'm happy it was you. Sorry not sorry.
ALSO FOIL WHAT THE FUCK YOUR POWER COULD ALWAYS DO THAT AND YOU'VE JUST BEEN SITTING THERE SHOOTING THINGS?
I . . . I just . . . girl! How?? You could literally have turned a piece of rebar into a sword that Alexandria could have cut Leviathan in half with! And that's just what I thought of in the first few seconds after seeing this! Spend some time actually thinking about what you can do lady!
But luckily my daughter is here to do the thinking, and be FUCKING AMAZING AT IT!!!
LIKE HOLY SHIT TAYLOR, YOU CUT OFF BEHEMOTH'S LEG!
AND THAT PLAN HOLY SHIT! YOU MADE A PLAN THAT SET RACHEL UP TO BE THE BADASS HERO WHO CUTS OFF BEHEMOTH'S LEG, AND SETUP REALLY POWERFUL HEROES AS HER SUPPORT!
Fuck half of Eidolon's fucking job was "Catch my girlfriend and fly her back to me."
GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOLFSPIDER WOLFSPIDER WOLFSPIDER!!!!!!
And the snuggling at the end, as they were leaving!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my god and the lightning rod! That was insane!
Golem just has really cool powers. Glad Theo is doing ok.
And Alexandria's power preserves the body so Pretender can just puppet her. That's wild. Kinda annoying, my daughter just killed her!
And and and Taylor talked with Contessa!
AND CONTESSA SHARED HER POWER!!!
I was pretty close, didn't have it that specific, but basically was expecting something similar. Fuuuuck it's so cool!
Also the underground cities and the secret capes were wild. Kinda unfortunate that you guys set things up for Behemoth to be able to collapse the entire city, gave him lots of existing tunnels and such to work with.
My daughter could have done a little less bonding with Phir Sē. Ideally. Would have made me feel a little better.
But holy shit a time portal bomb made of looped light?? GOD DAMN. That sure hit like a truck. Just not a big enough truck.
Also Grace and Cuff are dating. I don't make the rules I just enforce them.
And the rules are "make it gay"
God and the whole "thinkers stuck on a roof" bit. Christ that was planned badly. They almost died because nobody had some rope. Embarrassing.
I'm glad Tattletale is doing ok. She got her girlfriend to steal a dudes phone for her, which was pretty funny. And I loved how she still got to do her big reveal to Chevy, she needs that.
HOLY SHIT AND TAYLOR TELLING RACHEL HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IMP?? SHE UNDERSTANDS HER GIRLFRIEND. GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY GAAAAAAYYY!
And fuckin Tecton just trying so hard to do the same thing with Rachel first and just failing so completely. And then trying again. And again. Bless his big himbo heart he's trying.
Fuck there's so much, I'm sure I'm missing a dozen other things. Every chapter had 20 moments I could mention.
Seriously though, sucks for New Delhi. "There’s nothing left to protect here" is a heck of a line and it is not what anyone wants to hear.
Chevy interlude (the rest of it) thoughts:
Holy shit Chevy's shadows! I wish he had described more of them, I wanted to know everyone's image! Just so much data there.
Fun to see the early Wards. Fun to see that Colin was always like that.
Hero's death was absolutely a targeted hit, he started asking too many questions, pushing back on things.
Chevy's whole power is just really fascinating. Really interesting to think about.
RIP Mouse Protector
Also the fact that her shadow was her laughing makes me think she might have lost the ability to be sad when she triggered, which is unfortunate if true. I mean Bonesaw got you either way so I guess it doesn't matter now.
Loved getting a wonderful list of Endbringer attacks. Sure it still wasn't all of them, but up through Simmy showing up is still pretty great.
Extremely curious about Mr. Keene, keeping an eye out for more info on him.
Tattletale just needed this poor man to read her texts and let her do her fucking THING! It's all she wants.
Anyway ya turns out powers (except Scion of course) can't touch the actual core of the Endbringers and I'm like 95% sure I have a good idea as to why it works like that, but still got a little bit of that uncertainty.
Endbringers are directly related to Eidolon in some way, I am pretty sure of that. Created by him. Previous bodies. Sentient poop for all I know! They're connected though.
HOLY SHIT WHEN HE SEES TAYLOR'S SHADOW DURING THE FINAL FIGHT!!!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! SHE LOOKED SO BADASS!!!!
Aftermath interlude thoughts:
Pretender and Satyr are so gay. That one's easy I don't even gotta try.
Everyone just starting to freak out about how things are gonna escalate instead of just celebrating the win is really unfortunate.
I mean, they aren't wrong. Another Endbringer is gonna come. But it would be nice if they could live in happy ignorance for a few days.
I'm guessing it'll either be two Endbringers that always attack at the same time or one Endbringer that uses teleportation to swap to a different city after a certain period of time. In either case basically fucking up the organized response ability.
Already mentioned this, but Rachel and Taylor fell asleep on each other!!!! GGGGAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!
If Dragon comes back wrong I'm putting all of the blame on Colin.
Fucking Danny just fucked that phone call up so bad. This man can not get it fucking right. FUCK.
GLENN YOU FUCKING FUCK I DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR REASONS ARE YOU DON'T PUT SOMEONES PRIVATE VIDEO THEY TOOK FOR THERAPY ON THE INTERNET!!
AND YOU NEVER EVEN FUCKING SAID "SORRY"!!!!! YOU EXPLAINED YOUR ACTIONS AND WHY YOU HAD TO DO IT EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD HURT HER AND YOU COULDN'T ASK HER CAUSE SHE WOULD HAVE SAID NO BUT YOU NEVER EVEN SAID SORRY!!!
Like for real. Taylor says "You could have asked" and you respond with "You would have said no." Fuck at least just say sorry!
#Worm#Worm Web Serial#Parahumans#Cairavende reads Worm#Skitter#Weaver#Rachel Lindt#Wolfspider#Chatterbug#Smugbug#Tecton is a perfect little himbo boy#Oh ya and Cauldron kidnapped/saved all those people in the first underground base#Like sure Taylor was yelling at them to not go but I feel like most of those people would have very much died when the city broke#Seriously though I'd kill for fan art of Chevy's view of Taylor in that final fight. With her shadow image. So fucking cool.#I mean I'd love any fan art of any parts of that fight. But that might be my favorite specific image.#Fucking christ there was so much good Wolfspider stuff#And Chatterbug (Smugbug)! The scene with Taylor at Tattletales bedside was cute.#No for real though if Dragon came back with any major issues I'm blaming it all on Colin.#That man better not have harmed my wonderful robot daughter.#I really really really really would have loved for my wonderful bug daughter to spend less time have philosophical discussions with Phir Se#Look I know. Ok? Worrying about her talking to Phir Se is closing the barn doors after the cows got out. But I gotta do something :P#If I was making a new endbringer I'd do a pair that always attack two different places but the 2nd one shows up a random time after the 1st#That way no one wants to go fight the first because they all want to wait until the second shows up#Just in case it attacks somewhere more important to them. Fucks up the parahuman response and breeds resentment among capes.#Plus than one day both could just hit the opposite sides of the same city as a surprise and really fuck things up

The biggest problem with Dominion is the dichotomy of Maisie's plotline with regards to motherhood, and the way both plots revolve around it from wholly opposite perspectives while never actually clashing.
Her plot starts off simply enough: she's angsting about not being a real person, Claire's trying to protect her, and Maisie spits at her with the "You're not my mother!" line right before she's kidnapped.
This is a classic Finding Nemo setup, which Claire takes to with gusto: she calls on favors, slips into seedy markets, fights a crime boss, eludes raptors, jumps out of a plane, and crawls through a forest to get the girl she calls her daughter back. Most stories would show this as a trial: ye olde "GASP! My parents love me!" story.
But the fact that Claire has no obligation to bring Maisie back is never challenged. Soyona doesn't bother with asking or playing the role of the tempting serpent instilling doubt; the closest the movie comes to that is Franklin giving her the "I told you this would happen" speech. It's all taken for granted, which is...okay, because we have already established who Claire is, but that's not the problem.
Tumblr media
The problem comes with the other half of the story: Maisie mopes to Wu about how she's just a close, and Wu immediately points out how no, she was conceived and carried in a human womb just like everyone else! And he calls Charlotte "your mother".
And Maisie goes "Is that my mother?"
And when she meets Ellie, Dr. Sattler is somehow fully aware of who Maisie's REAL MOTHER, the one who created her and who she looks like, is, and gushes about how great of a eugen--person she was. Every single time Maisie talks about "her mother" with the people around her, the word is referring to Charlotte Lockwood, the woman who birthed her.
Meanwhile, that Claire woman is crawling into a slimy pond to get away from a twenty-foot-tall Kreugersaurus because she wants to get Maisie away from kidnappers.
Of course, Maisie runs back to her and yells "Those are my parents!", but there's still something missing there. Claire's side of the story is all about her powering through, risking her life time and time again to track down her daughter...but there's never really a moment between them later. Maisie even posits the "So I was just an experiment to her..." plotline that has been seen before, but even that's immediately refuted.
The movie's not wrong for avoiding the cliches and the oft-used tropes of foster motherhood, but it doesn't really break any new ground, either. Obviously, people can have more than one mom, but there's something of an imbalanced focus on Charlotte as Maisie's mother in the Maisie and Jurassic Park plotline, while Claire in the Jurassic World plotline is doing all the expected Mom Stuff.
I can't wholly express what's bothering me about it, maybe I'm overthinking it, but it...doesn't quite sit right with me.

Okay I've had a sleep, I've seen a lot of what the fandom has to say and I'm gonna just talk about my thoughts on the episode 118 stuff in more detail too.
Spoilers under the cut and it's a little bit (5 paras and a tl/dr at the bottom) long
I have never liked the Release Predathos option, but it had been very apparent - since probably as far back as the vorbing - that Matt had been pushing the narrative towards that option whether Bells Hells wanted it or not. The lack of alternatives provided meant that yes, the Hells had little choice but to deal with Predathos themselves; Ludinus was likely not dead, they were low on strength and resources even after a short rest to fight another full-strength Ludinus, and even if they caved in the core and killed Ludinus again someone else would've tried to come and release Predathos. On that I can't really fault the cast for playing ball with the DM and I can't say what the characters are doing is out of character or with bad intentions, it simply annoys me how close we were to entertaining the idea that should've been discussed earlier of putting Predathos somewhere nobody can get to. Objectively it was still a terrible idea, one that even in delivery could've been better prepared with Imogen not in range of the two saving throw buffs or having any Inspiration as she took on Predathos knowing from previous experience that a wisdom save is likely to be involved. But again, the alternatives offered up to them are sparse, nothing else in the narrative had offered a clear solution and if something did suddenly come up it would've felt too much like a deus ex machina. The Hells are not doing this because they want to do Ludinus' plan, but doing so is by proxy doing Ludinus' plan, and thus the problem as of current lies in the Plot.
Right now, they're at a very high risk of the plot not justifying a story, because why did we have this campaign if the outcome is gonna be the same? If the plan is to reset Exandria why didn't we have C3 in the post-reset era and trickle in what happened as lore? Bells Hells have often lacked agency when it came to the Predathos portions of the campaign, but even when they took agency to try and be more than what they were made to be they found themselves punished or being withheld the catharsis they needed to grow. Regardless, the plot is currently failing the characters, and thus the characters are failing the audience - to the point where some in the fandom now want them all to die or for Braius to betray them all - because we the audience don't see the appeal of the direction.
There is a caveat though: it's not yet over. We expect that there will be a fight between the Hells and Predathos!Imogen (we need a name for that) and possibly Ludinus swooping in with the harness to try and steal a victory, but that does mean that the theatre of imagination can come into play in dealing with Predathos itself. There is of course uncertainty whether Predathos can die, since Vecna at 0hp would've just discorporated them for a bit, but there are a lot more options for the Hells to entertain now than there was at 118, including having to kill the vessel - be it Imogen or transferring it to another like Ludinus or Liliana, being able to expel Predathos from Imogen and entrapping/banishing/killing it with the knowledge that yeah that was a terrible idea, or somehow having Imogen suppress it and remain control over herself (and hope that the same rule doesn't apply to her as it does with Delilah being free when Laudna dies), which all can involve exciting twists and turns and creative solutions befitting of a conclusion. In that hope is the opening for a more exciting and satisfying end, and while the plot has had rightful criticisms a good ending can make up for them just as much as a bad ending can ruin a good plot.
So in short; I don't like that Imogen did that, but I know why she did it. And why she did it is more the plot's fault because we never saw it as a good idea, just the only decision that was pushed to be made. There's hope though, and all is not lost, but the plot as well as the characters are gonna have to earn it.
#critical role#cr spoilers#c3 spoilers#c3e118#bells hells#predathos#ludinus da'leth#matt mercer#imogen temult#I don't wanna be too mean to Matt because he's great and it's not at all easy but sadly mistakes were made#I appreciate him trying to make C3 different from C2 but the characters still need to character#the stuff we wanted focus on more were lacking - none of the main villains had layered backstories for instance#even Ludie was just 'my family died in a warzone in the Calamity' which like 90% of Calamity survivors also have#I don't like this Ruidusborn retcon either because if any could be a vessel why have Exaltants? Did Ludie/Weave Mind honestly not try?#feels more like a messy justification for Fearne/other non-exaltants as vessels but also makes Exaltant Fury even more of a hasty power-up#between Imogen Swordgate and Braius I don't wanna hear anyone give Ashton shit about the shard unless they do the same to them#118 had some great moments still but that final hour just left a sour taste that's overpowering the rest#the one catharsis of killing Ludinus was quickly revoked which stung - if we left him in a Force Cage and went in what'd be different?#my main hope ofc is that the Hells survive and save Imogen but I also want them to rip Predathos out of her and kill/banish it#Ludie2 (Twodinus) or Liliana may get involved & I'm wary of the Matron's mask but as I've said: it can't be set free but it can't stay here#I also never liked the idea of getting rid of the gods - they can stay just new rules need to be made and a new dynamic between mortals#I'm sure that even Ashton and Dorian can be negotiated into a compromise like that - I didn't disagree with what the former said last ep#Exandria has to change; since the discourse has proven that the status quo is too flawed and makes more like the Vanguard in its neglect#think the cast don't really want the gods to go either but this campaign - and the world - does not need more 'doomed by the narrative'-ism

something something samsara cycles I don't think it's a coincidence that the overthrow of Decarabian involved Jean and Diluc's ancestor + Venti's lookalike friend -> Mondstadt archon quest the key players taking down Dvalin were Jean and Diluc + Venti
Is. Traveler Amos?
Or put another way, traveler is the one with the floaty friend -> bard has the floaty friend. Venti is friends with Dvalin the terror of the tower/Amos is friends? Lovers? Something? With Decarabian the tyrant in the tower. Venti -> Amos, Traveler -> Nameless bard, Paimon -> Venti?

I'm really unsure how much stock i should put on Kaga's interview statement that you're meant to interpret Sigurd as an impulsive idiot who was too stupid to realize that he was being put into a very obvious trap throughout his campaign
Sigurd's death scene always read to me as the audience being meant to be both impressed by Arvis' intelligence and horrified at what's happening to the cast, not as "Sigurd is such a dumbfuck for falling for such a painfully obvious ploy, Arvis got really lucky that his biggest opponent is this much of a dimwit lol"
There's a huge difference between pre!Silesse!Siggy and post!Silesse!Siggy.
Chalk it up to Deedee being missing, living a few months in what is supposed to be a cold viper's nest (tfw Rahna's bros in law don't like her sitting on the throne) or his family being framed for Kurth's death despite years of loyalty by fellow Granvalle people (+ Claud's prophecy that things are going to suck), Siggy mellows a bit.
Then Ethlyn, Quan and Altena eat sand, and Siggy makes the decision to order the kids/youngsters to gtfo - he might still be an idealist at heart and trust that, at least, some people in Granvalle aren't part of the conspiracy to frame him and his dad for the murder of the King - maybe if he can talk to Azmur everything will be "okay" again - and yet, he isn't willing to risk the lives of the kids or the ones who want to get out of this mess, because there is a risk he's going to die, and he's now aware of it.
Post!Silesse!Siggy, especially after his dad and Ethlyn's deaths, reads as desperate - desperate to cleanse his family's name, but also to find allies and make sure the Granvalle he served - under Azmur - still exists.
Of course we know what happens, but fwiw, Siggy is at first doubtful when Velthomer suddenly sides with them to toast Reptor, but thanks to Aida's assurance - and no prior ill feelings against Arvis, who is, as far as Siggy knows, someone who was in Belhalla, gave him a nifty sword and serves the royal family more closely than anyone else - he accepts to follow her plan...
Only to be toasted in turn.
IMO, it's less than Siggy is an impulsive idiot, but he is a naive and idealist man who has full trust in the people he serves (the Heim royals) : sure he was played, but just like Reptor and Langobalt (or Lombard as he is now know) and, ultimately, Arvis himself.
Arvis and Manfroy fooled Jugdral, so it reads a bit as unfair to single out Siggy as being a moron because he was played.
Bar the memes, I wouldn't say it's Arvis being intelligent - but him finally showing his real cards (even if we got hints when he works with Manfroy, and Reptor wondering what the fuck he is doing), that is being unrepentant and torching (gameplay wise, at least in this cutscene) his own brother for the sake of reaching his dreams, and securing Deedee at the same time.
Both Siggy and Reptor trusted Arvis, and Arvis pissed on that to kill them with their pants down : much like ASOIAF's Tywin gambits, this isn't being more intelligent than the others, it's being more ruthless by betraying everyone and everything to reach his own ends.
However, unlike his bootleg copy, Arvis won't enjoy pots of tea and pastries during his retirement : by the time Gen 2 pops up, Oldvis lost everything he onced had, is manhandled by his own son, ignored by his own people, has his "grand ideals" twisted and torn beyond recognition, and his batman gambit to save the hunted children kind of falls flat, because he cannot save his own son(s) nor his beloved daughter.
And to add more salt to the wound, ghost!Deedee hangs out with ghost!Siggy and never asks about him - you can even read between lines that Deedee "accepted" her death at Julius' hands, instead of rewarping or whacking him with the Book of Naga because that would mean she'd reunite with Siggy, Arvis (and Julia, by the same occasion :'( ) be damned.

Not publishing the ask yet because I want to reply with the playlist but I have to comment on it because
Tumblr media
Anon. You just gave the biggest neuron activation.
IT'S 2 AM. BUT HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SLEEP WHEN I'M THINKING ABOUT THEM.
#I have so many thoughts and none of them are coherent#srmthfg#it's just- they make me a little insane sometimes#especially after ghost in the machine (was that what that episode was called. I think it was that)#what if you had a crush on the second in command for ages but never had the guts to actually confess#because he's always focused on the bigger picture and the job and all the things that are More Important#AND THEN HE FUCKING DIES RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES. WITHOUT YOU BEING ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT#listen to me. I don't usually have many problems with the show. but I do think the semi comedic tone of savage lands part 1#was kind of weird sandwiched between all the serious stuff. I understand wanting some levity but everything is in the shit#so. allow me to make it angsty in a gay way. let me indulge for two seconds#WHAT IF YOU SO DESPERATELY WISHED HE SAW YOU AS HIS THIRD IN COMMAND#even if it doesn't matter now that he's gone. you want to think he'd give you that. that he saw you that way#and then he comes back... and you find out that he didn't#but also- he came back a robot. so is it really him? can you trust this illusion just because it talks and walks like him?#even if he isn't... could you ever leave him behind?#WHAT IF HE HELD YOU SO TENDERLY AFTER YOU SAVED HIM AND CARRIED YOU BACK TO SAFETY. WHAT THEN#(blatantly ignores all the spove in ghost in the machind)#WHAT IF YOU GOT TRAPPED IN A MUSEUM AND BECAME COWBOYS. I LOVE COWBOYS#I'm sorry. I'm still kind of sick and thus not fully sane#I promise I'm normal about the monkeys

Between Dean and Sam: who prefers to be liked, and who prefers to be right?
Hi Nonny, thank you so much for the ask!
I think the easy answer is that Dean prefers to be liked and Sam prefers to be right. Dean has more friends, is more malleable, and has a huge, life-destroying fear of aloneness at his core, while Sam is Mr According to the Lore Research Boy who is often distant and intellecualizing, so this is a natural conclusion.
But actually I think that, like many people in high stress occupations, they both vastly prefer to be right and don't actually care that much about whether people like them or not.
In nursing, it's a truism that certain sub-disciplines--ICU, PCU, NICU, OR, ER--are full of "strong personalities"; which is what we call people who are excessively competent, just want to get the job done and get it done right, and don't really give a fuck about much else. Partly this is because people who are at baseline inclined towards a combination of technical competence and adventure tend to go into those difficult and high stress disciplines and partly it's because once you're there the job winnows everything else out of you.
That, to me, is Sam and Dean. They are "strong personalities". It's not that they don't have friends (although it's canon that in the early years part of the job is explicitly stated to be leaving your friends behind and not getting too close); it's that their friends are expendable, they themselves are expendable, everything is expendable except family and the job--and the job involves getting things right or dying.
Look at how they treat their friends. Look at Kevin, Garth, Rowena, Crowley, often Cas, even each other. They are frequently mean, insulting, belittling of others' value, and interacting with their friends like autistic children who bond through parallel play; except the play is "bleed for the Winchesters".
They both of course do have the basic human need to be seen and loved--which each expresses in their own natural way-- but that isn't at all the same as wanting to be "liked", and they both largely confine their need to be loved to a few select people. Everyone else goes in the "to sell for a corn chip if my brother is hungry" resource pile.
This is very much not me insulting them or saying that they're deranged or actually the bad guys or whatever. The way the universe of the show is set up, they are right. Their world is a huge ICU full of dying patients that's also on fire. In some ways the whole show is just a 15 year argument about how to be right when everyone is dying around you. Give up? Throw out your phone? Push it all down until it comes out in violence and alcoholism? "Like" is small and easily sacrificed compared to wading through the big stuff and doing your best.

if dorian didn't show up, do you think louis would have shot minnie?
I do. I know some people think either he wouldn't have or he would've missed so that's why the writers had him shoot Dorian instead, but mmmmmm no, I don't personally think so. I like to think that if he had taken the shot, his shaky hands would've caused him to shoot her fatally.
Mostly because I'm already so normal about the fact that of the Ericson crew, Marlon and Louis are the only ones with a body count. Well, that we know of, but shown to us in the game, at least. Plus, we know it's Louis' first kill.
Like yeah, Clementine and AJ become part of the crew and they have bigger body counts, and if we're counting indirect kills caused by actions, then Tenn has a count... and I guess everyone has blood on their hands for blowing up the boat... but I'm talking about killed directly with a weapon like....... I lied, I'm not normal about that at all, Louis and Marlon are the ones who have killed someone in Louis' route. I'm also not normal about the fact that Louis kills Dorian and then even as he's clearly in shock, he tries to go with Clementine to get AJ, and then later on when they talk about it, he says it feels like bile but not quite and he's glad he has it in him to do it.... listen, listen, listen... I'm obsessed with that.
Anyway, so if Louis shot Minerva, I think he would've accidentally killed her and can you imagine? He's already enough of a mess after killing the woman who pinned him down and tried to cut his finger off [or succeeded] but he knew Minerva, they were friends before the twins were taken. Even Violet couldn't kill her even though that would've been the smarter thing to do, and we know thanks to meta knowledge that killing her would've saved lives, but Violet couldn't, and I don't think Louis would intentionally either.
Speaking of Violet, if Louis killed Minerva, I hate to think about what that would've done to Vi. I think she might've actually left at that point, like what was planned before it got changed to her being burned. I don't think she would've attacked Louis over it, though, like yeah she attacked Clementine in the cell but Louis? I don't know, but I don't think so just because it's Louis and he'd be a mess about it anyway.
Though if he did kill her, it would be a neat parallel to draw... y'know, because Louis forgave AJ for killing Marlon even though he was pissed and heartbroken, and Violet was annoyed with him the entire time... but could she ever forgive Louis for killing Minerva? Y'know? We already have a similar parallel with AJ shooting Tenn, but still.
If Clementine killed Minerva in that moment, though, then I could see Violet attacking her since in her eyes, Clem proved her right.
So yeah, I get why they added the Dorian kill to his route. It adds another compelling element to Louis as a character, but we also need Minerva alive for episode 4; Louis can't kill her, he can't miss, and he's not going to stay with her because we need Violet to stay on the boat and him to be on shore for all routes.
#asks#twdg louis#twdg minerva#twdg clementine#twdg violet#twdg marlon#twdg tenn#honestly whenever i see someone say louis is the boring option i'm just like '.......that's your opinion but also how can you say that??'#then again i'm sure other people look at me saying violentine just isn't for me and they say the same thing so y'know... i can't talk haha#also time is such a weird thing because i look at the entire cell scene in louis' route and like... i'm not even mad about violet anymore#like yeah i still don't believe she was brainwashed like i'm sorry y'all only believe that because kent said something about it#not because there's all this evidence toward it in game like vi being pissed at clementine makes sense she doesn't need to be brainwashed#for it to work like her being vulnerable and easily manipulated into submission makes perfect sense especially with minerva there#it's like everyone was pissed that she attacked clementine and people needed a way to excuse it so it's not violet's fault when like...#that's literally what makes it interesting like calm down it's okay if violet is pissed and scared and behaves accordingly#also my controversial opinion of the day that i'll hide here in the tags so maybe people won't find it sksksk but#I personally find the concept of vinerva and the doomed tragedy of it more compelling than anything violentine did#like i'll defend violentine and i do believe it's an important and good ship it's just not my personal favorite#anyway but then the whole thing with lilly and minerva is so good and louis screaming FUCK YOU at minerva?? amazing love it so good#i love when the soft character who never chooses violence is so pissed off that all that anger they have boils to the surface and it's raw#like... he's SO mad he's SO furious he's SOOO UPSET like he wasn't even like this when marlon died or anything like he hit his limit#and then shooting dorian through the mouth while an accident is just well done i love it and i love his reaction of mortification#and apologizing and YET he still tries to go with clementine he's trembling and can barely string together a sentence but he wants to go#he wants to help her he wants to save aj THAT is the gut reaction he has after everything that just went down#'louis isn't loyal or good for clem because of the vote' babe tell me you don't understand any nuance of louis' character without telling m#it's fine IT'S FINE you don't have to agree and i just have to remind myself that it's fine not everyone likes louis we're okay#this drives me crazy in the best way like y'know what? i love the cells scene in louis' route all of it even the stuff i used to rant about#even the stuff that used to piss me off now i'm just like 'no wait past cj was dumb she wasn't looking at it this way aaaaaaaa' sksksks#that was my tag ted talk about the cell scene thank you

i wanted to get a new camera this year after like 15 years maybe even one that can take the kind of photos i have been wanting to be able to take for fucking ages but am held back from because my camera just can't do those shots and cant swap lenses but i guess i'm not getting a camera this year
#yeah yeah there's more important things and i should be grateful that i'm upset that i cant afford a luxury hobby thing#though if im billed the 18k for the surgeon i will Be In Trouble#but i've been unable to stretch my budget for a new camera for 15 years now despite desperately wanting and trying to get to that spot#and im not even talking about one of those $1400-$2000 professional whoppers man i just need the dslr body and 1 lens#im extra sad because they are about to be completely out of reach for the foreseeable future given the economical situation#my only hope at this point is to troll estate sales and hope a photographer dies....... fuuuuck.....#my one little favorite longrunning hobby has been nature and landscape photography#id really like to b able to focus on getting better at taking good photos instead of The Despair that's been lurking at the periphery#personal stuff#will also probably delete later#because this is just too damn trivial#im just frustrated#my camera is fine but it's a really middling all rounder from 15 yrs ago that was middling then#i couldn't afford a dslr when i was 15 gimme a break#i also really wanted to get a film camera to re-learn film photography but i just haven't found any good options in local shops#i really should just pick one expensive hobby but man. sigh. man. i have too much love for the arts and crafts#trying to be fiscally responsible feels so fucking stupid sometimes why am i doing this. what's the point!#why am i saving for a future i know i won't have!!!!! i KNOW i won't ever have a house!! I KNOW i will never retire!!!!!#i know the reality is that at best im saving so i can make it through unexpected bills like i'm currently going through or my car breaking#down or getting evicted or losing my job. all very real possibilities.#what a life though. not being able to invest towards a beautiful future full of joy and excitement#only a life of endless bills and payments and unexpected costs that snatch away those moments of excitement I'm trying to claw back#i wish i could just fucking glue on a lens to my cameraaaaa fucckkkkk or even just one of those sun block things#because the lens isn't protected at all from light so if the sky is too bright or the sun isn't directly behind me it makes#all of my photos look really foggy.......

im thinkkng Curiously abt all the other winners that Didnt come back.. all the winners that were able to put it behind them and make the most of their life. Or Not
#we know the winners r monitored after the games but how far does that extend…..#is it just out of security etc or is there some sort of incentive to keep them… Ummmm. Healthy#thinking thinkingggg. how many ppl inho spoke to in that limo. how many of them had that same fight left in them that gihun had#the majority were probably beaten down and won over by the games right….? its for the best. make the most of it. u r speciallll#the games r like. the winners r Different than the orher pieces of trash who died. theyre special theyre worthy of beinh more#these r kinda unconnected thoughts but ouuuuh i think. i think#i think its interesting if inho kinda latches onto gihun bc he Gets It he can Understand…#does he see himself as different to all the other winners…. does his suffering make it more noble lol#i think a lot abt inho insistingggg that gihun not go down this path. like he speaks from personal experience#i wonder if he wishes he cld have just let it go. and moved on and never Known.#gihun is unique in that he has that perspective on the games from ilnam. i doubt the others got that#SPEAKING OF. i wonder if that meeting was purely ilnams idea.. or if inho influenced it in some way#he seemed to take interest in gihun during the games so possible. Hey girllll see my side#except gihun DOESNT see their side. he sees smth that inho himself cant.#i think inho wants be proven wrong. but hes so deep in the hole that he doesnt believe its possible#he sabotages gihun a lot. and u can see this as him trying to break gihun#but i think its also likeeee. self sabotage. he doesnt believe that a better world is possible so he shuts down any attempts to get there#OK UM. i think theres a kinda Redemption Triangle#inho wants gihun to ‘save’ him. gihun Does Not. junho wants to save inho. inho Does Not.#likeeee hes like. junho doesnt Get it he hasnt seen the full reality of the games. he doesnt Understand like gihun cld#but i think hes naive cus gihun doesnt even believe in what the games stand for. like he explicitly Doesnt Get It and wont stand for it#junho is shocked and betrayed bc he doesnt Understand. but gihun Might. he might be able to see how someone like inho cld end up here#theyre sooooo alike. except for that one really crucial detail#ok whatever. wgaf#rambly headcanony stuff. tskkkk

I love shipping. It's a fundamental part of the fandom experience and I always have my favorites when I watch or read anything but ngl some people get so obsessed with it they miss the point of characters arcs and the actual storylines.
Fanfiction are so good for exploring what ifs and expand on stuff that is left unsaid or you'd like to see. I write and I have read countless and still do it with immense pleasure.
It annoys me when I see people loudly dismiss a character's arc/story (when it's well done or just makes sense for the character itself) just because it didn't have the romance they wanted as its ending point.
