I so rarely do tag games atm, but I can't resist this one since I'm probably going to start posting from this baby soon.

From Shattered (aka wip:shattered kneecaps)

But no, it was her. With red puffy eyes and a limp more pronounced than it had been. He wondered why she wasn’t using the crutch she’d left in the corner. “Miss me?” he asked. To his delight, she wrinkled her nose at him. Damn, that was cute. No, no. Nope. Means to an end. That’s all this was. “I’m sure you didn’t miss me,” she said. Her full lips pursed, pulling against the scars the fall of her hair didn’t quite hide.

No further blows came. Ten? Was that it? He started laughing, a little breathlessly, sure, but whatever. “Gonna have. To do better… than that,” Nykim said. The woman moaned behind him as the sodden whip met wood with a muffled plop.

The man huffed, disturbing a few of those loose tendrils of hair, which now curled enticingly around–and she was going to stop herself right there. Gods, he had no right to be this attractive. Or to look so self-satisfied. “Like what… you see?” “Yes,” she snapped, “I like seeing horrible people like you in the position you’re currently in.”

(the position is hanging from broken arms and kneeling on shattered knees lol)

“Hey,” he said, his chest aching as he reached up to find her face. He allowed a trickle of healing magic to sink into the bruise under his palm, threading his fingers through her hair. “I’m not going to hurt you. Not like that,” he amended. She flinched. Fuck, he was smooth, wasn’t he. “I’m gonna need to fix that shoulder, and that’ll hurt, but…” Why was he mincing words? “I’m not gonna [redacted]. I know I’m a cold bastard, but I’m not that cold.”

“Darkness is safety, Shadow. Melt into it. Feel for my chains, follow them.” Safety. She could’ve laughed, if she’d had the breath. There was no such thing. “D-d-darkness swallows, swallows you. Whole,” she gasped, but she started dragging herself toward the sound of his ragged breaths.
