sparkpelt
i remember sparkpelt had always been interesting to me, even before squirrelflight's hope and a starless clan. i felt like it was kind of unfair to paint her as this "super-awesome never stressed" character in comparison to alderheart. (don't get me wrong, i understand that the books from alderheart's perspective is obviously going to portray her in such a light because that's genuinely how he sees her, but it's a little upsetting since i feel like as the main character's sister, there was a lot that could have been done with her).
and i know a lot of people will argue that her being a background character is good because too many of firestar's descendants are main characters but like. i feel like she could have been important while still remaining a non POV character. i had always interpreted her personality as extremely hidden.
i never liked squirrelflight's and brambleclaw's relationship, so i always headcanoned sparkpelt as kind of being the peacekeeper within the family. alderheart was too anxious and unsure of himself to get involved, so sparkpelt automatically assumed the role. i always just assumed she put on a fake smile and told everyone she knew what she was doing when in reality, she was just going with the flow and hoping she didn't lose herself in the process.
when she and larksong ended up getting together, i imagine that him in all of his sweetness finally treated her with the care and attention that she deserved after being such a strong force for everybody in the clan.
i feel like nightheart's angsty "firestar" plotline could have been so easily given to sparkpelt for her to deal with in the background of alderheart's problems.
correct me if i'm wrong, but does alderheart ever think about his dead littermates? besides the sentence where we hear about them? it would have been so interesting for us as readers to see him or sparkpelt doubting themselves and then wondering if dandelionkit or juniperkit would have done it better.
i just love the concept of warrior cats but it could be done so much better if they just. hired people who really cared about it to write the books. i haven't caught up with the latest books since river cause i just feel like there's some kind of machine pumping them out lately.

Warriors AU: God-worshipped Sharptooth
I think it would have been super cool if Sharptooth was seen as a God instead of just a predator.
The Clans already view big cats--Tiger, Lion, Leopard--or at least whatever they imagine those big cats to be as these almost sacred, possibly spiritual, beings of the past. How come when an actual big cat showed up in the series, no one thought it might be something spiritual?
--
The Tribe cats are already treated as a group of..to put it plainly, idiots that always need the Clans to help them. What if their first encounter wasn't of being saved from Sharptooth thanks to the Clans?
What if instead, the Tribe saw Sharptooth as a god, who comes to take their tributes (sacrifices) once every [blank]. Like Someone might be close to dying--elderly, sick, just wanting to pay tribute--and they send them to a place where Sharptooth comes to get them (away from the cave so that he doesn't actually become a huge issue in the way that he did in the books). They see it as his guiding spirit leading them to the afterlife.
It would also allow more cats to eat because their numbers can remain steady, so they don't run into the problem that caused half of them to leave back in DOTC.
Remember how the Tribe was meant to show how groups can be different and unique, but also good? Wasn't it a thing for 9/11 or was that made up? I'm tired it's 3 in the morning
What if they leaned more into that idea? The Tribe of Endless Hunting is too similar to StarClan imo, so what if instead of a entire afterlife of cats that guided you, it was Sharptooth that was the leader? And those that sacrificed their lives for him was believed to be granted a high position in the stars?
What if the Clan cats think that this is wrong and try to stop it, but by the end they realize that they cannot control other cats' lives, and that these cats are happy with their beliefs and lifestyle, and it would be wrong of them to force them to change?
So instead of the Tribe being helpless and always needing the Clans' help, they are instead shown to be a group living differently and believing in different things, but who also have mothers just like the Clans, fathers, kits, friends. I don't know, my brain's too tired to formulate the words I want to say right.
Just...There was so much missed potential. I'm pretty sure the Tribe was made because of different ways of living and different groups irl, so it sucks that one of these groups in their books are, for one, so similar to the other in their beliefs, and for another they're so bad at taking care of themselves without the Clans coming in to save them. It would have been so much better if we instead got a moral of getting along in spite of differences and beliefs.
Maybe they don't accept each other at first and believe that the other's way of living is wrong but then there's another enemy or natural disaster that makes the two groups work together and make them realize how similar they are, and that it's okay that they are also different?
PLUS just imagine God-Sharptooth.
Thank you and goodbye

Stop misusing the words sexism and misogyny.
People in this fandom who misuse the words misogyny and sexism and label it as literally anything they don't like are the reason it's not taken seriously here. The same can be said for abuse. Abuse is a cycle, and half of y'all who label that are purposely misusing the word because you're either uneducated or you're just being arrogant.
Sexism, in short, is discrimination, stereotyping, and/or prejudice against a certain gender. (usually women), but this can still be directed toward men. Misogyny is extreme hatred toward women to keep women at a lower social status than men, thus maintaining the social roles of patriarchy.
And does that happen in the series? No, it doesn't. At least to my knowledge, there's very few who seem to be misogynistic. DoTC is the only arc where I can clearly remember there being blatant misogyny. And fatphobia. And leafpool's situation, but that seems more like exploitation than misogyny. The series honestly seems more ableist than hateful toward women. Multiple female characters have been given powerful roles. Ex Bluestar,Doestar,Tall Shadow,Wind Runner,Yellowfang,Leafpool, Mothflight, Squirrelstar, and Tawnypelt (briefly leader, I think)
The misogyny honestly comes more from the fandom than anything else. And cats like SF or Maplesahde are not a good example. People have a valid reason for their hatred for them and give valid arguments when they're saying that those characters aren't innocent or victims of something. It's just that you people are too much of an actual asshole to see them, or you can't argue against them. These people provide book evidence yet you still refuse to see it for what it is.
They aren't sexist or misogynist for hating them. Everyone is entitled to disliking or liking whatever cat they want. And by your own logic, you are sexist if you hate another male/female character. Now, one example I will give of sexism is directed toward Ferncloud. saying that she needs to be killed off because all she did in her life was "be a baby machine". There was nothing wrong with her, and she was living perfectly fine. She was happy with her life.
Another example of misogyny is Spottedleaf. But not for the reason you think. Canonically, she is a pedo; it was revealed in Spottedleaf's honest answer, which, to my knowledge, is not retconned. But the point is that people think that because she was preyed on, it's okay, or that it doesn't matter that she liked Firepaw as an apprentice. It's misogynistic because you're watering her down to the point of literal infantilization and justifying her attraction to a barely pubescent child.
That's misogy. Stop misusing these terms if you don't know what they mean, because they just make you look like a fool. If you disagree, then block me. I don't care. Lmao

I will forever hate the portion of fandom that romanticized Kin's rogues grooming a bunch of teenagers. Needletail was a young she-cat who got manipulated by an adult tom and people love to see it as a typical love-dovey couple, Sleekwhisker was a young she-cat who got manipulated and idolized a cult leader and even the authors hinted she was in love with him, bro what??? Yarrowleaf, oh my beloved Yarrowleaf, was a young she-cat who got PREGNANT with some rogue guy and nobody questioned it. It is so fricking gross.
remember when a vision of shadows had a prominent character who was a grown man and pursued & got into a relationship with a teenager whom he was also actively luring into a cult and then we never talked about it and labelled the teenager a “technical groomer” instead

"why does everyone want moonpaw to be rude when they couldn't even handle flamepaw/nightheart?"
because flamepaw wasn't a fun cocky brash kind of rude like squirrelpaw or needlepaw were, he was insecure loser #53 with made up mummy issues that the books bent over backwards to justify (i will say this again sparkpelt did not fucking neglect or abandon him she suffered from postpartum depression for like 2 weeks after watching her husband die in front of her when flamekit was born which is a period of time he shouldn't even REMEMBER of all things and she was then exiled against her will while flamepaw made the choice to stay behind in thunderclan instead of joining her like his sister and i will never forgive the authors for framing it like everything was her fault). i really don't need the next arc to grab me by the face and go 'looook look how mean his family members are being to him all of a sudden despite them being completely supportive of him in the previous book (looking at you finchlight) don't you feel bad? :('
i get that some people like nightheart and that's fine but the nightheart-type rude is not what the people want trust me. we are sick of apprentices being sad and/or insecure we do not need another crowpaw or breezepaw or flamepaw or alderpaw or rootpaw we want her to be a MENACE goodnight

i hate spottedleaf’s heart.
there are two huge, glaring issues and a bunch of minor things that annoy me personally.
for one, spottedleaf is being groomed. it’s truly disgusting and awful, and the only problem the narrative has with it is that thistleclaw is an awful person, not his toxic behavior towards her or the truly gigantic age gap! she is younger than his literal son! on top of that, his wife has only just died maybe like two or three moons ago when he starts flirting with her. AS A LITERAL BABY.
for another, it retcons the fact that spottedleaf was only ever a medicine cat apprentice. in bluestar’s prophecy, she shows an interest in herbs and helping featherwhisker as a kit and then becomes a medicine cat apprentice when her brothers become warrior apprentices. and this definitely isn’t a huge retcon when you consider it on its own, but when you look at the series as a whole, it fits in with a trend that i really don’t like. medicine cats, at least the ones who are important main or side characters, are almost always cats who want to be warriors or are full warriors before something happens to them and they are forced or heavily pressured into becoming medicine cats. despite everyone in the clans being shocked when full warriors become medicine cats, it happens three times in the prequel era alone. no one important is allowed to just be interested in being a medicine cat and become one, it has to be forced on them and they have to come to accept it. and i don’t like that, it feels icky. this is basically the only other job or specialization in the clans, and even the authors look down on it apparently. not a good look.
a couple other things:
spottedleaf knowing bluestar’s secret just seems unnecessary. it was slapped on at the end and she doesn’t even know the full thing and there’s simply no point to her knowing. it affects nothing!
why does spottedleaf know about the dark forest???? the whole point of a lot of later plot points (and even earlier ones too) are dependent on cats not knowing that the dark forest exists or what it is. i have noticed them do this a couple times and it is quite contradictory and rather annoying.
the last thing is that the only good part of this book is seeing thrushpelt be a good mentor. yay thrushpelt, thanks for being the only not unbearable part of this whole novella.
all that to say, this whole novella is being scrapped in this au. just gone. we're pretending it doesn't exist la la la laaaaaaaa

the bluestar/yellowfang crumbs in the new graphic novel preview feels kinda,, i don’t know, queerbaity feels too strong but given the publishers’ stance against adding gay/trans cats to warrior cats, i feel like getting hyped for this minimal “representation” is sorta useless.
like “OMG THEY R BLUSHING TO EACH OTHER” in cat books that have a firmly anti-gay/trans rep stance but the publishers certainly KNOW that the fandom is very lgbtq just feels like catering without substance.
“yes we let your favs blush to each other but dw they still aren’t canon bc we aren’t into adding any kind of official gay rep to these books w a massive lgbtq fandom! just buy the book to get these unsubstantial crumbs while we do nothing to push actual rep into the franchise!”
as always w my gripes w the graphic novel, this isn’t towards the artists. in fact, i love them for trying to put in some crumbs for the fandom while still passing the publisher’s preferences.
what i’m angry at is the publishers for letting them ONLY do crumbs.

This isn't directed towards anyone in particular but it kind of pisses me off when someone talks about Mothwing in relation to how she acted towards Shadowsight. I don't think it's good to throw a hissy fit because she saw this young guy going through a shit time and forced him to stop working.
Like, obviously Shadowsight would be a little upset because he's desperate to prove himself but we also have to consider that maybe Mothwing was trying to keep him from working himself to death. Maybe let's chill out and not call her an evil bitch and say we hate her, mkay? Can we cool it with the misogyny?

"but mapleshade did x-" girl stfu, i would do the same if i got kicked out of MY OWN HOME after getting physically assaulted to the point where it took TWO PEOPLE/CATS to pull the assaulter off just to learn that my ex was a hypocrite and a liar, was cheating on me, and disowned our children. and then on top of that, she got denied shelter AND access to her babies funeral. she just got told to fuck off into the wilderness in under 24 hours! all because someone came up with a lie and she had go to along with it for her and her kittens safety. none of this was ever her fault. i'd curse my ex's bloodline too.
