Re: Kaya- per the American Girl Wiki, it does appear that they did their research for her series and doll, with an 8 person advisory board and about double the production time. There’s a link to a contemporary article from USA Today on the web archive here:
https://web.archive (dot) org/web/20121128215350/http://usatoday30.usatoday(dot)com/life/2002-08-11-kaya_x.htm
With that said, I don’t know how well she’s held up as of 2025!
that's really nice to see, thank you for taking time to send this article! it's really great to hear that there were so many cultural consultants involved in the project, and that they worked directly with the author. I think it's great especially that the advisory board's request to have Kaya's story take place prior to contact with white settlers was honored; I think her series was definitely one of the first I ever encountered where white people simply weren't present.
obviously eight people on an advisory board can't speak for an entire culture and I'm sure there are fair criticisms of the books as well, which I would also love to hear! but it's heartening to know that at least some genuine effort was made to depict Kaya's life with accuracy.

I know this is the least of our problems right now but do you think the US election results will impact ao3?
I am not a lawyer, nor a founder of AO3, nor a volunteer there, nor a fandom journalist or historian, so I'm pretty far from the best person to ask. I encourage any and all of the above to please chime in with more knowledgeable answers.
That said, I don't think the next few years will probably directly limit AO3 or its umbrella org, the OTW.* But that depends in part on members voting for board members who will uphold the organization's current principles. (Vote! Become a member if you're not already, and vote! Vote in ALL the elections you are eligible for and will be affected by!) And that doesn't mean a bunch of works won't become private, orphaned, or deleted.**
*A couple reasons for my cautious optimism: The OTW was formed with the preservation and maximalist defense of fanworks in mind. So the shifting US cultural norms and increasing purity culture can't easily change the OTW from within (as we've already been seeing in past years when some fans have disliked some content). And in spite of everything scary happening externally (and there is a whole fucking lot), the US still has far more constitutionally enshrined freedom of speech protections than most places in the world. It will take a long time to tear all that down. Some states and locales are doing a lot to try to challenge free speech, especially queer content and sexual content, and there will be more challenges. But many of those challenges will be defeated because of the First Amendment, and it'll take a lot of time and effort to push through any constitutional changes. You can donate to organizations like the ACLU and the EFF to help protect against the erosions of rights, in addition to supporting the OTW and the Internet Archive who work to preserve free speech rights and online rights. (Other suggestions of where to donate or volunteer are welcome in the notes!) Also, perhaps best of all, the OTW is a non-profit who owns their own servers, which makes it MUCH harder to change what they choose to host than if they relied on any external hosting services and/or had advertisers.
**The archive already has had a whole lot of fanworks shift from public to private due to external events, including the AO3 ban in China, and recent AI scraping of web content. I'm sure more AO3 users will choose to make their content private over the next few years out of a fear of potential personal risks of them being found, and/or due to new attempts to ban content. (Some users will also delete their works for similar reasons, though I urge people to consider orphaning them instead!) Downloading for personal use any fanworks you love is always a good idea, and even moreso at a time of great heartbreak and panic, like now.
*hugs* Hang in there, all, and continue to take comfort from AO3 & OTW as you survive the upcoming hard times.
#also I've still had a low grade fever for part of today#so i hope i didn't miss anything obvious#someone who is a lawyer etc please chime in#otw#asks#ao3#toasty replies#(also that disclaimer is to acknowledge my limitations but not to shame the asker... I get why you might ask!)#50

Hi I was wondering if you could help me find an original work on Archive of our own I can only remember part of the title and don’t know the author it’s called The Cumming’s - Cursed Bloodline and I think this is an expired link for it archiveofourown org works 51761593 chapters 130947751 # workskin it was updating regularly in August
Unless it's a crossover with MDZS/CQL we can't help, I'm sorry 😔 Or do you mean original work as in it is a MDZS/CQL fic? If that's the case, let us know and maybe one of our followers could help.
But if it's an original work, you may have more luck searching the link in the web archive? It may have been deleted or privated for various reasons, so you may not be able to find it.
I hope you're able to find it though! Good luck 😊

autodach64 said: It's The Cummings - Cursed Bloodline Series by stilestrashinski, indeed an original work. The wayback machine has the first two chapters. Maybe you can find someone who saved it? Good luck in any case anon!

It's not exactly the same, but people were regularly snapshotting your blog using the Wayback Machine on web dot archive dot org. Some of the more recent snapshots don't work, but most of 2017 and earlier is functional and possibly some more recent ones (but there's 110 snapshots and I didn't feel like checking them all hah). At least all your work is not completely lost to the void!
oh my art itself is not completely lost at least, I still have all my art saved, and I technically already have a back up of my blog up to 2018, a kind soul helped me with that way back then just after the Purge, it's everything after that I don't have a back up for, and to be fair there wasn't as many interesting asks and headcanons and tag rambles afterward but still, would be cool to have it all haha
#thank you though!#still have yet to compile my arts into downloadable pdfs#this is gonna take a while

Archives of the site dialogus
The site was created in 1999 by Sinclair Dumontais and René Pibroch. It disappeared in 2019. It was a public forum that supposedly allowed visitors to communicate with individuals they wouldn't otherwise be able to contact: deceased historical figures or prominent characters from universal fiction (thanks to Wikipedia for this copy-paste).
In reality, it was run by a large of moderators who tried to take on the personas of these characters and respond to questions as accurately as possible while attempting to embody the figure. However, as you will see, there were instances of anachronisms or unreliable answers, whether intentional or not, such as in the message sent to Robespierre regarding the case of Lucile Desmoulins.
The site covered a wide range of characters, from literary figures (like Sherlock Holmes or Inspector Javert, for instance) to real-life personalities, politicians, stars, musicians, or philosophers from various eras and backgrounds. It also featured some horrific figures from totalitarian regimes, but always with a historical purpose and not to glorify them. There were also profiles of victims of totalitarianism.
While reading, I felt that despite their efforts, some moderators struggled to fully immerse themselves in their characters when answering questions, whereas others responded so well that it genuinely felt like the historical figure was speaking (I’m particularly thinking of the one who portrayed Lenin. Even though I don’t like Lenin as a historical figure, the correspondence was quite good).
Unfortunately, this site has been shut down recently, and the responses can only be found in archives.
However, there are three drawbacks regarding the links I'm sending you. The first one is manageable: you won’t immediately have access to the full correspondence. You need to click on the word "captures" next to the profile (specifically beside the words "Internet Archive Wayback Machine"). You’ll be directed to a sort of calendar where you can click on the link for the most recent snapshot.
Another problem is that it's in French.
The third and more significant issue is that some messages have been deleted. For example, the profile of Archduchess Sophie of Austria now only has one response left out of several. This is unfortunate, as it could have provided balance with that of Elisabeth of Austria, and it unjustly reinforces the image of the wicked mother-in-law. But nothing beats a good biography by a serious historian on any character discussed on Dialogus, and the best one I’ve read about Elisabeth of Austria is by Brigitte Hamann.
Don't forget to have the links that are sent to you analyzed before opening them, it is a security measure that is essential and that includes the link on the post. I did not find any viruses concerning me but maybe on you. Here are the two links (some have included additional characters) https://web.archive.org/web/20031026090322/http://www.dialogus2.org/
https://web.archive.org/web/20060615020905/http://www.dialogus2.org/
P.S: For more links to the dialogus go to wikipedia

One part of the email that stood out to me, but I haven't seen anyone discuss is: "Ashley's [Gearing] career irritates Taylor and she goes to a new level." Irritated by another woman's success? Sounds like the Taylor we know.
And semi-related, have you ever read Ella Mae/Kate Bowen's (now deleted) blog about her career, including Taylor? (Isn't it interesting how many non-positive things about Taylor seem to disappear?)
web(.)archive(.)org/web/20200205140402/http://www(.)katebowenmusic(.)com/blog (scroll down to part 2)
I rarely hear anyone talk about it, or if they do they just dismiss it as jealousy or teen drama. But I think Taylor has shown a pretty consistent history of being threatened by other women.
wow

Hey guys! I’m here to make y’all happy. You all love the old layout of YouTube right???

And I’ve got you guys! Go on StarTube
And it’ll tell you what to do to make it function! I have it and it truly looks like 2012 YouTube. You can set the YouTube to look 2008 the oldest. And it’s working even better and smoother than the basic YouTube.
It has no virus or infectious files. I’ve got it on my browser - Opera.
Follow the instructions though!
Created none of the stuff that’s on the link! Credits to the amazing creator❤️❤️
Mine looks like this!! And it’s on the web, to clarify that it is not on the web on sites like archive org!:)

DS FIC REC - Crossover Fic
I have decided that since it's Wednesday it is crossover day. Lets start with what I consider the OG crossover fandom for due South:
The Sentinel (1996 TV show)
Funny thing is I remember reading a decent number of due South/Sentinel crossovers back in the late 2000's but I can't seem to find them anymore and the ones I can find are more Sentinel focused then due South focused.
Mini Sentinel Primer: A sentinel is a person with heightened senses and high protective instinct. Because of their heightened senses there is a risk that they might get overwhelmed and lost in those senses and need a guide to ground them.
So many of Fraser's habits which are attributed in the show to him knowing survival skills (such as licking things and sniffing things to figure out clues) can be easily translated to Fraser being a sentinel that the crossovers were bound to happen.
I do have two fic recommendations:
The first recommendation doesn't really require any knowledge of the Sentinel TV show than what I provided above.
Imperfections: Chicago by Dasha
Summary: Fraser was a damn good cop. Well, an incredible cop, actually, and a sentinel besides. And Canada left him to be guided by a wolf and put him on statue duty outside the Chicago consulate rather then, oh, for example, treating him with a little respect and letting him solve crimes in the Yukon where he'd be really efficient.
or using the Wayback Machine
https://web.archive.org/web/20170314094159/http://soulcake.skeeter63.org/chicago.html
The second recommendation would require more knowledge of the Sentinel TV show which if you don't already know a pretty good summary of it is here.
SVS-13: The Mountie Who Fell to Earth by Josephine Darcy
Summary:
While on an investigation, Jim and Blair stumble across a Chicago cop, a Mountie, his pet wolf and a murder. Eventually the gang is led on a wild ride across the Canadian wilderness in pursuit of a demented religious freak. Can Jim and Fraser save their partners before it's too late?
SVS is the Sentinel Virtual Season. I read it with no previous knowledge of SVS fics and still enjoyed.

What sucks the most about the 4Kids dub is just how ~everywhere~ it is. I didn't grow up with Winx Club. I didn't watch it on TV, I watched it on a cartoon pirating website. I didn't even realize it was the 4Kids dub (it's not like it was labeled as the 4Kids dub, it was just "Winx Club") not until years later when I got more into the fandom. I think it's sad that this probably was/will be many other English speaking people's introduction to Winx as well. It's not like it's airring anymore. Most people are just going to pirate it, and even if it was labeled as the "4Kids dub" (like on YouTube) it's not like newcomers would know the difference anyway. 4Kids may have gone bankrupt years ago (good riddance) but the damage they did to Winx Club is still being felt 20+ years later by new fans who are unfortunate enough to stumble upon the dub. :(
4kids' legacy is a stain on so many franchises including Winx in english-speaking spaces and since it legally doesn't exist anymore I wouldn't be against Rainbow taking down all easily available instances of it on Youtube. Putting it on web archive org is one thing for preservation purposes, making it seem the default english Winx Club everywhere is not and making 4k restorations is glorification of its existance.
4kids nostalgia and appreciation is an exclusively anglo phenomenon. I've never seen appreciation for anything about it beyond some music from the rest of the world. The moment people read about the changes and censorship they already dislike it. Italians fucking hate it. And then 4kids fans shit and cry to italians to... go back to the italian version? I'm sure they will buddy!

plural was coined in 1998 specifically to be more inclusive to systems without CDDs, due to the term "multiple" having relation to DID's previous name, MPD, and the way it specifically refers to systems with more distinct/seperate members.
anti endos cannot "reclaim" plural because it wasnt even their own term to begin with. this doesnt mean CDD systems cant use plural to describe themselves though, because endogenic systems don't own that word. it's just a more inclusionist alternative, and inherently includes non-CDD systems, median/non-partitionary systems, and endogenic/non-traumagenic systems.
link to the archived page where plural originated in the community::
https(:)//web(.)archive(.)org/web/19980115122056/http(:)//www(.)asarian(.)org/~vickis/naming(.)html
Plural means more than one
I'm not reclaiming it I've always used it lmao
Y'all get into this every few weeks and we're not changing our minds
Plural is a word
It's like coining "we" or "us"
Fuck off dude literally no one gives a flying fuck
#syscource#i swear its like theyre trying to get a repeat of last time#Constantine is being beat off with a stick lmao#but seriously its annoying and no one cares#endos arent even real so it doesnt matter lol
