random poll because i am a curious little lad
by creator, i am referring to anyone who is making/wants to make something based on an idea or goal. so you could be a writer, a musician, a worldbuilder, cosplayer, etc. it does not necessarily have to be original.
limited answer options but i tried :( feel free to expand on this with more specific polls. i didn't include a "multiple of these" option, since while i know that would be the majority, i want to know what is the most reoccurring sources of inspiration.
also for clarity.
real life - includes things like, scientific phenomena, animals/animal behaviours, or recent/current events that are happening but may not necessarily be directly happening to you.
feel free to specify what kind of projects you usually make as well in the tags!

When people said “Sometimes, the characters write themselves”, I didn’t know they meant:
You’re just planning/brainstorming (as usual), then a character says something right off the bat and you’re like “oh, wow, I didn’t have to think hard on that one.”
To
The characters are in control now, you’re just the observer. This is, in fact, your monkeys, your circus… Sometimes, it can look like this:
“HOLY SHIT?! SHE DIES?? How did you- What do you mean ‘not really’?! Explain yourself!!!”
“HA! That’a good comeback. I gotta write that one down, I would’ve never thought of—oh, right.”
“WhoaWhoaWhoa—Who are we talking about?? *gasp* Oh my God—They did that?! Scandalous.
“Wait, what?! That’s how this works? Huh, I would’ve never known that. Thanks for letting me know.”

I really like the artstyle that you have made for Rekindled. Just am curious how did do you keep track of everything revolving around Rekindled and do you have any advice on starting a webcomic?
Thank you! I'm still trying to get 'better' at it, my goal in the beginning was to mimic S1/Pilot era LO and I feel like I'm still far from that goal. But at the same time, it's resulted in it having an art style that's unique in and of itself which I can't be mad about either !
So when it comes to keeping track n such, just a lot of note-keeping! Whatever I'm writing, I usually always have a master document full of random things that I want to keep track of. If it gets any more detailed than general points, I'll make other docs to go with it (ex. I have a document that's just for the story's timeline, and another document that lays out the events in each episode that I want to happen). Usually I use LibreOffice Docs, but lately I've been switching to Scrivener as it has a lot of features that are especially helpful for keeping documents and sub-documents organized :>
As for webcomic advice, I'm not gonna get too into it because I'd be here forever, but here are some general pointers:
It's okay to start with a smaller project before diving into that one big idea you have. Smaller projects get us the experience we need to draw bigger projects some day, without overcomplicating things or putting too much on ourselves too soon.
Have as much as you need prepared in the beginning to ensure you make life easier for yourself down the road, but don't use preparation as an excuse not to start. You don't "need" turnarounds of every single character you plan to have in the story haha (not unless you're actually working with a team of people and need to maintain consistency!) You can still be creating concept art and problem-solving your plot as you're doing the comic, it's okay! I would just generally recommend having a skeleton of a plot with goals to achieve to give you a good enough start that you don't end up writing yourself into a corner!
The best way to draw a comic is whatever way works for you. Don't feel like you need to adhere to any one format or style or workflow, do what is comfortable for you.
Just start! Yes, you may start a project and then look at it and get overwhelmed with thoughts like "wow, this is gonna take me 3 years to complete :/" but those 3 years are gonna pass by anyways. Don't overthink it. The best way to get better at drawing comics is just to start and keep doing it.

why does the 4th episode of my comic still only have one like???
The like I gave it??? ☠️ bc I got sad after 24 hours when still not a single person had liked it? It's been almost a month now.
Is it that bad???????????????

I'm honestly so baffled. Are my readers and patrons just tech illiterate or did they all not-so-secretly hate it?

Do you think that you have to devote all your time to drawing in order to make a good webcomic? I've been wanting to make one, but I don't know if I can confidently put all my free time into a project like that, so I thought I'd ask the pros.
"Good" is pretty subjective to your own standards and what you're willing to put into your art and story. If you're not making comics yet, you might not have enough experience to make comics that are on par with your favorites yet. Quality improves with regular dedicated effort, and help from your peers.
The thing that's going to serve you best when you first start out is building the discipline to make comics regularly enough so you can get better at it. Options to try if you don't have a lot of time but you still want to make webcomics:
Short comics that you can pick away at and release once you're all done
One shots that don't require a regular schedule for people to follow them
Comic challenges that require you to be in the zone for a month and then let you rest
A flexible long-form project that will let you test what a comfortable amount of time spending on your comic looks like (while still letting you live the kind of life you want to live!)
You get what you put into webcomics. You don't need to draw 24/7 to have a good webcomic, but you also can’t expect it to make itself and be good when you’re not dedicated to it to some degree, and come to a realistic understanding of the work that goes into it on your own terms.
Best of luck finding the path that works for you!

I think soon I'll be introducing an account entirely dedicated to Free Fall here on Tumblr and on Bluesky as well, so you guys can leave comments on the pages!
For now, here's some portraits of a few new characters to be introduced soon! All are Avian citizens from Soaring Skies :>

SnakeFace episode 16 script
[episode under cut]
The four rushed down the street to Beverly’s house. Joey started up his car and ran back into the house to get the rest of his things. After piling everything in the back, the four drove off to the nearest hypermarket.
Ivan and Val went off to look for paint, Kim collected the week’s groceries, and Joey, of course, searched for more houseplants. While they were there, Val also found some bedsheets and curtains as well as some minor decor. Ivan found a rather nice canopy for Val’s room. They only discovered after purchasing it that it had a solid top; Val didn’t complain. It was a good thing they belonged to the three richest families in the city, or they likely wouldn’t have been able to afford everything they bought in one trip. Even the cashier looked concerned.
When they got back to Joey’s car, the winds had picked up even more. It was around 11 in the morning, so the storm would hit in less than two hours. They packed Joey’s car and sped back to the manor. The four unloaded everything as quickly as they could, parked the car in the garage, and rushed inside. Ivan and Joey put the groceries away while Kim helped Val paint his room. Ivan and Joey joined them once they had finished. Painting and decorating Val’s room took a while, but not as long as it would have without Kim’s help. The room was finished by around 5. The four pulled out some of the board games from the closet and sat in the living room.
“One hell of a storm,” Joey said as the wind whistled against the log manor.
“Tell me about it,” Ivan said. “California was bad because of the fires, but this is rough too.”
“At least it’s harder to lose your house to a lightning fire.”
  “It’s still possible.”
  “I never said it wasn’t.”
More time passed. Ivan’s mom still hadn’t come home. Kim could tell it was worrying Ivan.
“She’s probably just waiting out the storm in town,” said the witch. “She’ll be home before you know it.”
“You’re probably right. I’ll be right back, I have to use the bathroom.”
Kim, Val and Joey waited until Ivan shut the door to resume talking.
  “Is he alright?” Val murmured.
Kim hesitated. “Ivan’s had a rough few weeks. He lost his dad just last month. He gets worried about his mom a lot because of it.”
“I’d be worried too,” Joey whispered. “It’s rough losing someone that close to you.”
“Just try not to bring it up, he’s still pretty sensitive about it.”
“I’d be surprised if he wasn’t,” Joey said. “I mean, it hasn’t even been a month. He seems to be handling it pretty well, though.”
Kim nodded. The three went quiet when Ivan came back.
“Ivan, it’s your turn,” Joey said, showing no signs of their previous conversation happening.
  “Is it?” Ivan sat down.
The game went on for another few minutes before there was a knock at the door. The sound startled the four, and Ivan shot up to his feet. Kim, Val and Joey peeked over at the door. But it wasn’t Ivan’s mom that was standing there when the boy opened the door. A small girl dressed in dark victorian clothing was standing drenched on the doorstep. Ivan looked confused. Val’s expression dropped as he rushed to the door.
  “Nana!” Val shouted.
