Tomorrow I'm finishing a 30 day challenge I was doing as well which is exciting 💯🙏

It’s been almost 2 weeks since I had Covid. My first gym session was tough to be honest. I thought I’d ease my way back into it, but even when basic tasks leave me breathless I knew it would be a struggle. Thursday – Treadmill – I started with a 5 minute slow walk. Hope I get better at explaining this. When you do any push or triceps exercise it is important to squeeze out the muscle to get the most contraction out of it rather than putting excessive weight on it and locking out or over extending your elbows which is bad for your joints in the long run. Also focus on the eccentric contraction (downward phase) controlling the weight slower to its starting position. This way you will build better muscle without putting all that extra strain on your joints. I want to focus more on detail this year. 3x 800 Pull - negative split and descend
We are currently visiting the HPC-Victoria crew in their home training environment, and integrating into their template and workouts for a couple of weeks. One of the sets we enjoyed was a series of 800’s that spanned the workout with emphasis on the arms. Although the set was simple we liked the idea of spanning the workout with a theme.

The great thing about doing 800m repeats is that the athletes can get a good amount of rest on the interval and be ready to move onto the next set without interrupting the flow of the workout. For the squad we had the pace time was 10’40 for the 800’s which gave them lots of rest and the chance to get ready for the next set.
Staying on the arms continuously allows for great development of endurance for the 400 or 8/1500m, and they will see a huge improvement as they repeat the 800’s, and also as they re-do the set a few weeks later.
Thinking about how you can spread out a longer set like this can make the distance a lot more palatable for the swimmers - writing 3x 800 looks a lot harder mentally to handle than spreading it out, and likely you can get a better effort from the athletes.
