anyway 💅 alternia as another realm within the 16 and maybe there was an invasion of ninjago at some point in the past, i'm still working out details. but the basic gist is a bunch of trolls immigrated to ninjago and honestly between the serpentine and munce and geckle and merlopians and the occasional skulkin and also the fucking. floating jaguars and boogie bears and everything else they fit right in tbh. they mostly keep to themselves but there is a bit of mingling between humans trolls and serpentine (up until the serpentine war at least), but trolls as elemental masters is next to unheard of given that trolls and humans can't really reproduce together that way.

except when wu goes to find all the holders of the elements of creation for the green ninja prophecy, well. Colton Bekkit and Nya are very obviously trolls, and wu knew that his brother had somehow managed to have a son with Tomeseek. what he wasn't expecting was for the masters of ice and lightning to have been raised by trolls, too. things are about to get chaotic (colton ends up crushing on the other three in three different quadrants pretty much. immediately. nya and kai had to raise each other and so nya's not really in touch with troll culture. things are only going to go off the rails from there)

You can tell the writers didn’t really have a plan/explanation for why Chen didn’t have Wind or Water despite apparently needing all of the elements for his spell. I know YEARS later they eventually came up with an explanation via Wojira, but if we’re being real from a Doylist perspective, they just could not be bothered to explain it. Despite Water being established in the very same season as Tournament of Elements, and Morro planned later that year, even showing up in the last second of S4!

Between this and the show being vague on how Morro got to the Cursed Realm -Tommy had to explain in a tweet that dying after doing bad things also qualifies you for it- and I honestly kinda wish/headcanoned that Clouse sent him there. Think about it…

Morro goes off to prove he’s the Green Ninja, leaving Wu. Chen hears that the Master of Wind is a lone child and realizes how easy it’ll be to claim the first element he needs. He and Clouse corner Morro, steal his power, and then banish him to the Cursed Realm to hide the evidence.

When Kai destroys the Staff of Elements, the power of Wind is released and crosses dimensional boundaries to return to Morro; Shortly afterwards, Clouse is banished to the Cursed Realm, allowing Morro to swap places with him. He watches everything that goes on from afar, gathering intel, hence his brief appearance at the end of S4.

As for Water… The writers teased that Chen knew what happened to Ray and Maya. And then never really followed up on it despite Tommy having a pretty sensible explanation in mind.

Let’s put it this way; Kai is the first child of Ray and Maya and he gets Ray’s power. He doesn’t know how to use it. Next comes Nya. Maya chooses to hold onto her power for now so that someone experienced and well trained can protect the family with it; Once Kai is old enough to use his powers, she’ll pass hers onto Nya.

Alas, Krux targets the two. He strikes a deal with Chen, who planted the idea in his and Acronix’s mind to take power for themselves; In exchange for sending his minions to help Krux capture Ray and Maya, Krux will allow Chen to take Maya’s element of Water for himself. Likewise, Chen gives Krux the Vermillion eggs he found in exchange for this boon. Everything goes as planned, Chen takes Maya’s element and then Krux holds both parents hostage and forces them to make armor for his new Vermillion army.

This is how Chen knows what happened to Ray and Maya, and explains his claim about them betraying the alliance by working for Krux (even if under duress). When Kai destroys the Staff of Elements, Water is released and doesn’t return to Maya, instead entering Nya because it was always meant to go to her.

This explains why Wu never trained Nya as a ninja until S5; She straight up didn’t HAVE an elemental power until the latter half of S4. And amidst all of the other chaos, Nya has to grapple with some mysterious element having bonded with her for some reason; In the end, she doesn’t have time to figure out or master her new element, so she sticks to being Samurai X for the rest of S4. Once Chen is dealt with, only then does she have the space to start exploring this new power and the implications of her mother’s power having been held by Chen, who claimed to know Maya and Ray’s whereabouts. S4 already set up a couple of story elements that would be expanded upon in S5, what’s another one?

…This doesn’t count for Time of course, but that was only added two years later. So it’s a bit more understandable of a retcon, whereas the writers knew about Water and Wind when writing S4 and still didn’t bother to explain it. Idk maybe Time isn’t actually an element but a ‘power’ (hence it being split into four powers across two masters), and Acronix and Krux’s beef stemmed partially from wanting Time to be recognized as an element on equal standing with the rest of the alliance, especially after contributing so much to the war effort. Being left out because they weren’t viewed as ‘real’ Elemental Masters created an inferiority complex that Chen took advantage of. Maybe the Hands of Time connected with Skylor’s mother over Amber also being dismissed as not a real element, and like them she listened to Chen, which led to her having Skylor with him.

Guys can we talk more about that pre gen Ninjago 2023 concept. Having the old elementals as the main cast.

What if the show starts off with Krux and Acronix from the present of the original Ninjago, and they’ve just time travelled to before they were even villains and are just quirky nemeses of the main cast (quirky nod to the original show). Also the serpentine wars are probably also going to be mentioned.

The main cast is

- Garmadon: generally a bossy sassy guy who’s always grumpy bc of the venom and tends to be the leader since he’s the oldest. Despite it all he’s got some social skills and is generally well liked for his power. Currently on the side of good bc the venom hasn’t yet taken over. Has powers of destruction and dark energy.

- wu: Garmadon’s worried younger brother who is just trying to make sure Garmadon doesn’t destroy too much stuff. He’s genuine but also genuinely worse at fitting in with the group bc he’s more introverted (I’m riding off the fact that he decided to write Misako a confession letter instead of talking to her, not even after she didn’t get it). His fighting style relies more on technique than magics ability and it’s still ambiguous whether he has similar powers to Garmadon.

- Ray: didn’t realise he was a fire elemental and comes from a long line of blacksmithing. However when villains attacked his village he decided to become a samurai and defend it. Realises his elemental power throughout the series and learns to control it with the help of Maya. Can seem carefree and laidback and a bit of a joker but can also be incredibly stubborn and determined when he gets into it. Also wu and ray are bffs

- Maya: comes from a long line of water elementals and was trained to be a warrior elemental for most of her life. Hence she has a strict way of doing things and everything she does has to be perfect. She feels great responsibility in being the water elemental as it’s an important and sacred element. She’ll probably have an arc at some point where she learns to be messy and doesn’t have to be perfect all the time, and Ray will probably help her be more relaxed or emotional. She’s usually pretty cool headed but uptight. She’s enthusiastic about training and being organised and can be a bit critical when people don’t take it as seriously as her

(There’s not as much things to go off with these other characters so forgive me if everything else is vague)

- lightning: probably a small town girl who just happened to discover her elemental power but had no idea what to do with it. Maybe she was inspired inspired by the group to become a fighter and is generally pretty new to everything. She’s very bubbly and energetic and extremely talkative and is key on keeping the group together in hard times. However she’s also one of the more self indulgent members, and the one most likely to complain about doing super hard training. Despite that it would be cute if her character arc was about her growing into her powers and leading a more purposeful life, like she learns that she wants to fight bc she cares and not just bc she doesn’t know what to do with her powers. Also the thing with Cliff Gordon is like a celebrity crush running gag which then develops into a “Gordon gets damselled a lot and lightning has to save him” running gag bc I think that would be a cute and kinda silly romance dynamic idk

- earth: (Cole’s grandad) he’s a bit older than the other characters (only in an appearance sense to the spinjitzu bros) and he’s a travelling warrior. He was probably a hugely powerful potential ally that it was important for Garmadon and wu to recruit against the villains. I can imagine him seeming like the stern type but is actually just a dad guy yknow. Like he’s secretly a huge softie who hopes to start a family one day. I can see him and lightning having a mentor apprentice relationship yknow. He’s also got that leader esque vibe that I think it would be interesting if at a crucial point in the story he disagrees with one of Garmadon’s plans and kinda challenges his authority and it causes friction within the group. Also I just checked the wiki and apparently he was also manipulated by Chen and hypnotised by hypnobrai to betray the other elementals so that checks out.

- ice: again a bit older than everyone else but he’s kinda mysterious. Hes a renowned wandering warrior who shows up to save random villages from monsters before disappearing without a trace. Bc of this people are both in awe and suspicious of him. He actually comes to the spinjitzu brothers before they attempt to recruit him because he sees visions of the future and bestows them prophecies and is like “and you’re gonna need my help”. He’s cool like that and probably instigates main plot threads with his visions. This does mean he has room for a “don’t shoot the messenger” arc. But you could do many cool things with him and his future vision. Like he looks cool but is secretly in constant existential crises, which will also link into the general time and back in time them with this show being a pre gen and technically the audience also has future visions. And also the spinjitzu brothers are also operating on prophecies

And I've been thinking about dialogue like this:

"You're n-not sssupposed to be-be-be like - like this! Y-you're supposed to be liiike...." looking for a photo of wu on his phone, shows it to Wu. "This! A-and yyyou're supposed to sa-say something like 'h-h-hello Lar, it's nice to m-m- to meet you son' . And then, ma-maybe give me a hug, and... a-and..."

And Wu is just 👁👄👁 cause like. Idk. He's not always 100% sure what's going on. Sometimes he kinda remembers things sorta, but not always.

Poor kid is not having a good time.

But don't worry! It doesn't last too long. After a while, maybe a day or two, Lar is just happy to finally have his baba around, happy their family is complete finally.

Lar's just happy to spend time with him in any way.

I don't know how well established Lar's garden is at the moment but I also thought of this

Masters of Spinjitzu: 7/10

Good set up. It's short and easy to watch. Also, nostalgia. Not my favorite, but good.

Rise of the Serpentine: 8/10

a good start to the series. it has its bad points like every season does but, yknow. I enjoy the building found family dynamic but you cannot tell me that that one cole-centric episode was not queer-coded as fuck. Because it was and I am not taking criticism. overall good!

Legacy of the Green Ninia: 7.5/10

This would have been a good end to the show imo. I'm glad it wasn't, but I can't really say I'm a fan of Lloyd getting aged up. He deserved a proper childhood dammit! The ending was good, solid banger. Also, Garmadad. Yes.

Rebooted: 5.5/10

I'm taking off points because it was eight episodes. Also, Zane and PIXAL's romance subplot? Literally took like, three episodes. Not even an hour, man. Not terrible, ending-wise But stop giving Lloyd and Zane trauma, damn you!

Tournament of Elements: 2/10

HOW. HOW DID YOU FUCK UP THIS BADLY. I loathe this season, solely because its supposed to be Kai-centric, AND IT DOES HIM THE FUCKING W O R S T POSSIBLE WAY. Also, the Kai and Skylor romance subplot sucks. And you're gonna tell me we DON'T address what happens when Kai holds the staff?! Bullshit.

Possession: 9/10

I adore this season with every fiber of my being. The Kai and Lloyd dynamic? Banger. Morro as the villain? Banger. The ending? Banger. By far, one of the better seasons.

Skybound: 6/10

Weehhhhhhhh, not my favorite. Nadakhan is a good villain and genuinely intimidating, and there are moments where you do genuinely fear for the ninjas safety. Hate the ending. How do you just erase everything like that?! I could also just say: "THIS NEVER EVEN H A P P E N E D." and my point would still be made.

Day of the Departed: 8/10

Thoroughly enjoyed this! Love the Cole-centric stuff. Pretty good special. Also, Morro! I love him your honor.

Hands of Time: 7/10

Not bad. Acronix and Krux are good villains. Not my favorite, but good. How many secrets is Wu gonna keep from the ninja? WHO KNOWS ANYMORE!

Sons of Garmadon: 7.5/10

Mediocre at worst. Harumi is definitely not a villain I saw coming until it was too late. She's also very hateable! Good written villain. But, the plots a little shakey.

Hunted: 8.5/10

HOLY SHIT GIVE LLOYD A BREAK MAN. My boy has been through so much and now he's on the run. Oh God. Oh can somebody please give him a break!! in all seriousness, I enjoy this one more than the previous. Its just better for some reason idk! Maybe its the dragons.

March of the Oni: 7/10

Why was this so short????? Wtf???? Bro, no. Solid, but short as hell.

Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu Scrolls: The Fire Chapter: 4.5/10

Character writing is shaky. Plot holds steady BUT NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF WU HAD JUST SAID SOMETHING.

The Ice Chapter: 7/10

Character writing is significantly better here. Plot still holds steady. Could be better, but at least it's not the Fire chapter.

Prime Empire: 7.5/10

Not the greatest in terms of plot writing. However, Unagami is a good villain. Redeemable. I like it. Good season. Not great, but good.

Master of the Mountain: 10/10

I'm biased, yeah. But can you blame me? Its just a really good season! And honestly, Cole-centric AND vague dnd-themes? You've won my heart. Also, Vania is a very well-written character. She's also not a love interest to Cole either!! I'm in love.

The Island: 8/10

A good special. Better if you watch it as the 40 min special. It's good set-up for Seabound. Its still not the greatest in terms of plot, though.

Seabound: 9/10

I cried. I will admit it, I cried during this season. It's such a good season, and the last episode just had me bawling. For this being pretty much the sole Nya-centric season, I hate that it just had her become the ocean at the end. I saw it coming- still cried. Also, if I had a nickle for every season of Ninjago that started with S and ended with -bound and killed off Nya in some way, I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, but its weird that its happened twice right?

What I know about the season beforehand is that Nya's powers apparently are getting problematic for some reasons? Which is a pretty common topic in other shows but it's a first in Ninjago, usually the elemental powers don't have focus and I LOVE that we now get to see stuff like that 💕💕💕

I know there should be Wojira involved, trusting The Island to deliver that little foreshadowing at the end of the episode 🤷‍♀️ Also Maya is back... MAYA IS FINALLY BACK AFTER SEVEN SEASONS YES!!! 😭😭😭

I have nothing else to say, I have no idea what this will bring, hopefully something as good as Master of the Mountain! 🖤

Who's Harlow?

Ah yes Harlow my beloved cringey oc that got retconned like 8 times due to the introduction of the time twins (by the way this is about ninjago so there's gonna be a lot of words about that)

I'm also gonna leave them under the cut because I am not kidding when I say a lot of words

So. Harlow is a time elemental

Originally she was idk maybe 12? Small child basically and the whole thing going on was "What would a kid do if they could actually mess with time?" The answer is a lot of dumb stuff and unintentionally becoming something of a Problem, by causing problems bla bla bla ninja had to go deal with that, Harlow learns not to be so irresponsible etc etc

Of course with the introduction of the hands of time I figured I might as well tie in Harlow's backstory and she ended up as like... Krux's long since abandoned kid or something. Not an orphan, just living with her mum and all that and having the dormant time powers get triggered by the temporal anomaly Acronix fell out of, which then started the irresponsible time travel arc

Anyway that is... Largely irrelevant to the iteration in the drawing. So! What's the deal with her?

Still a master of time, still... Probably Krux's kid, (hence the similar fashion sense) but with the added twist of

A. She's an adult (somewhere between 19-23)

B. Now get this: Also from a parallel timeline in which the time twins successfully defeated the elemental alliance, overthrew the monarchy and instated themselves as the new rulers

Yeah.

So Harlow's living the high life with pretty much everything she could ask for, probably got a sibling or cousin or something. Still kind of childish and irresponsible and absolutely down for abusing her time powers (I think she's got rewind and pause which... I'm not entirely sure were Krux's powerset but sure, why not)

And it's all going great until in the main timeline the Iron Doom rips a hole in the space time continuum and really starts messing things up. I mean, really starts messing things up. Like kind of fracturing... Everything? And causing things, places and people from other timelines to get pulled into the main timeline

Like Harlow

So that's a thing. And since the time twins were deadset on halting technological progress where she was from, its a real culture shock for poor Harlow, who has never seen a car or a TV or a phone before. It's a bit like an off-brand edition of watching Acronix experience the wonders of the modern world.

It's also a little awkward since the news reports are talking about the time twins getting their asses kicked and- hey! That's her dad! And her uncle! What the heck?! What happened?? What's going on??

I don't think I ever properly established what happened after that point other than the vague she probably runs into Reena (see previous post) who was working at the history museum at the time and Harlow immediately becomes emotionally attached to this horrible rat bastard, which Reena is none too thrilled with.

They end up on some kind of adventure to figure out what Harlow's deal is and how to get her home or get revenge or whatever it was she was on about, involving copious amounts of time travel fuelled by the energy of the temporal anomalies (Which can be helpfully located using borgtech. This is apparently a normal feature for a phone to have)

Can't imagine the ninja were too thrilled to have thought they dealt with the whole time travel thing only to immediately get decked by some other time travelling maniac shrieking at them for incomprehensible reasons while one of the history museum janitors(???) just kind of. Watches from a safe distance.

Actually no idk where to start with this there’s so much anon there’S SO M U C H I guess I’ll do a run of MINIMAL changes tho (for as long as I can)

I don’t think I have to change much in the first two seasons, thankfully, since the writers actually sat down to think about what they were writing at the time but g o d did it go to hell afterwards

Season 3 - This Zane focused season is going to be ZANE FOCUSED DAMN IT. We’re focusing on his loss over his Father, having salt rubbed in the wound by having his father’s work turned into an evil army, and being faced with the fact he’s obsolete compared to it all. He keeps trying to stack up numbers to win, recalculate things, and it’s why his line at the ending ACTUALLY has impact. The thing that sets him apart from the nindroids, his ability to love, is what allows him to defeat the Overlord.

Jay, Cole and Nya love triangle is DESTROYED. Pixal, Zane and Cole is the new love triangle and later OT3

Season 4 - The explanation for the other EMs being around is far less stupid. Garmadon establishes that oh yeah all of your parents had elemental powers and even talks about a few of them because holy SHIT. Cole mentions his mom because he should have done that a g e s ago. Is this supposed to be a Kai season doesn’t feel like it. Open the season with better explanations of why the ninja split. Emphasis the fact that Kai blames himself for what happened to Zane, and continues to do so throughout the season. Add that to why he’s so desperate to save Skylor from her dad (not willing to lose someone else). We still lose Garmadon, Kai and Lloyd have a talk at the end of the season. Also ZANE IMMEDIATELY GOES TO GET PIXAL A NEW BODY WTHHH????

Season 5 - Idk this season was pretty good over all I think. A bit better lore established into the cloud kingdom, hints that they don’t actually control fate they just think they do. Explain where the FUCK NIMBUS CAME FROM?? Water can still beat up ghosts but idk feel like there should be some other factors involved, some magic. Kai and Zane figure out they can make water a LOT sooner. Also why doesn’t Kai just set the preeminent’s house armor on fire??? Should have. OH I did forget since this season is supposed to be for NYA GETTING HER WATER ELEMENT how about she actually GO WITH THE NINJA AND DO SOME SHIT SOMETIMES??? I don’t mind her training, specially Ronin helping her but like??? Wtf why not have her ENGAGE, idiots.

Season 6 - I’m the weirdo who actually likes season 6 but that doesn’t mean it’s not without its issues. I don’t mind Jay wondering about where he stands with Nya but his behavior throughout the season has to stay consistent. When he agrees with Nya he needs to let it go he needs to LET IT GO. IT LITERALLY SHOULDN’T BE BROUGHT UP AGAIN UNTIL THE LIGHTHOUSE. He also needs to linger more on his birth father (and besides he should have suspected he’s adopted since season 4 cause he knows neither of his parents had lightning powers). Zane doesn’t ignore Pixal’s warning about Nadakhan but if she’s off somewhere else idk how she gets threatened I’m sure Nadakhan could figure it out. OH and time can still reset and stuff idc but like, Jay and Nya need to talk about it and they need to GO BACK FOR ECHO. EVEN IF THEY DON’T FIND HIM THERE.

Day of the Departed - just wish it was longer tbh, but major changes: Why do the ninja not seem to care that cole is FADING OUT OF EXISTENCE and Lou should be a lot more worried about his son.

Season 7 - I mean, it’s mostly a trash fire, but I think it’d be a lot more enjoyable if they actually had good sibling dynamics going on. Acronix following his brother because he always has, but starts questioning their plans as things go. At first their relationship is much better, which is why they best Kai and Nya, but by the end that flips over. Actually have Kai and Nya having an ISSUE. Kai thinks their parents could have been traitors, Nya seemingly doesn’t care because she’s so wrapped up with her samurai x stuff being stolen. They end up fighting and don’t make up until the boiling sea. ALSO GIVE RAY AND MAYA A BETTER FUCKING EXCUSE FOR BEING GONE THEY COULD HAVE FUCKING SHANKED KRUX WHEN HIS BACK WAS TURNED GET OUT OF HERE HE HAD NO LEVERAGE.

Also Machia isn’t dead okay she’s just in the past she WILL COME BACK

Seasons 8 and 9 I’d say are pretty solid honestly? My minor changes: Garmadon isn’t Garmadon he’s a fucking fake get out of here with that shit THE REAL GARMADON WOULD NEVER. We actually learn where Mr. E came from I don’t even care if it’s just Harumi and UV talking about how they found him in a scrap heap and got him fixed just give me something. Stop treating Dareth like SHIT. Ronin and The Commissioner plan a jail break long before they’re let out in season 9. Teen Wu is a lot less... air headed. Like seriously he seems to have more logic when he’s a child it doesn’t add up. I’m not saying he has to remember everything but wth?? Oh, and Mistaké isn’t dead fuck you.

Season 10 - ............................................ delete it and start over. Literally, hate all of it, get it out of here. Four episodes for villains you built up like FUCK in the last two seasons??? All of them fucking as big as people???????? cowardly, weak, uninspired, I don’t want it I’m just going to have to redo this whole gd season. A) Oni leader is a QUEEN now and she can be up to 30 feet tall no I do not give a FUCK B) Fake ass Garmadon is revealed to be a different oni entirely he was an agent for the queen the whole time but never finished his mission C) She can still paralyze a bunch of people but man Lloyd you’re going to need more than a shiny tornado to fight her off. D) In fact you need to summon your other great grandma so the two of them can get over their divorce spat. E) Where’s the mask of vengeance bring that back into play. F) Mistaké shows back up to help. I suppose plot wise it can?? Mostly run the same but I think they’re going to have to run much farther than the city with how fast she spreads her reach. Also she’s weak for Lloyd because he’s the smol great grandson and he has to use that to his advantage to slow her down. Mistaké makes something that can unparalyze people and they get some of their allies back before the finale thank god. Faith isn’t just in a coma the whole GD time.

Season 11 - Fire half? Good. I need a much better reason why the ninja go to the never realm tho because wow did they just make everyone out of character in that last episode. The ninja have no reason to just ignore Wu and shove him out like that. Wu has no reason to NOT NOTICE LLOYD IS BREAKING INTO HIS ROOM WHEN HE WAS KICKING THE NINJAS ASSES IN THE FIRST EPISODE. Ice half?? ... h Yeah no they should have known Zane was the emperor from the start LMAO. Or at least suspected the possibility. The decades of time passing??? Deleted. Maybe give it a year. Idk why it’s just Lloyd snapping Zane out if why aren’t the other ninja involved like p l e a s e. Also kill Vex with an ice spike, thanks.

Season 12 - Over all I liked what this season had going but there... should have been more. And that ending felt so crunched together like damn... Unagami was a p cool villain at least BUT idk, despite all the focus on the plot so much of it didn’t feel tangible enough. Even if we’re going to focus more on the video game world I want to see more of what these NPCs are up to. Should have tossed in a couple of filler episodes. Also can someone just kill the Mechanic too SMH (and they should have tied Wu up in something sturdier how did he not just break out of that WHATEVER)

Suppose I’ll stop there I haven’t season season 13 yet.

Oh, the timeline itself needs some fucking work too. At least establish Wu and Garmadon’s sudden aging. At least establish how old Zane is (I’d believe he was built 40 years ago but I find it hard to believe he was active for all of it). Establish that yeah the FSM really did basically fuck off like idk 14 years ago and idk why the show acts like it was so long ago it couldn’t have been based on the other facts we know have Wu learn that his dad is a bitch ass motherfucker and he needs to ditch.

Obviously it would be way too many villains to juggle and thus give justice but could you fucking imagine if they brought back ALL of the old villains for Crystalized, even the ones who were already brought back in Day of the Departed?

We know Traveler's Tea can bring back the dead from the Departed Realm. But instead of Morro, who has already proven himself to be chill, maybe the Preeminent could be brought back in his place, since she was the true villain of Possession. The Preeminent could take a smaller minifigure form, or even be a miniaturized Lego build. Her being a lot smaller is because she got weaker from being dead longer, and Pixal defeating her.

Nadakhan gets brought back and it turns out he remembers all of Skybound, just as Jay and Nya do! Or he doesn't. Jay and Nya explain to the others that there was a whole season that just got undone, and given their experiences with time travel, it's not entirely out of the question for them to accept this. Nadakhan can't grant wishes anymore because that's a huge can of worms from a writing standpoint... Maybe the Overlord used technology to limit him, knowing what he was getting into because he heard the stories of Nadakhan. Or maybe his wish-granting was lost due to Djinjago's destruction, which is what Dragons Rising did. Again this is inconsistent lore but it's Ninjago so whaddya expect.

Yang is still haunting the Temple of Airjitzu, but as a chill and reasonable ghost. Maybe he gets crystalized (can ghosts be crystalized???), brainwashing and forcing him to the Crystal King's council.

Acronix and Krux are easy to explain, in fact the way they were left in canon is just begging for them to make a comeback, because if Wu did, why not them? Tbh a part of me thinks Machia is, in some ways, a better fit for this role; She much better represents her villain faction than the Time Twins do, since she's an actual Vermillion. Maybe all three characters can represent Hands of Time; Machia was also there with the Time Twins as part of Iron Doom, so again, easy explanation. The Iron Doom falls out of the time vortex and idk gets obliterated by the impact, maybe it lands on some explosive stuff, so only the Time Twins and/or Machia make it out alive; So there's no Vermillion army or time machine to rely on.

Iron Baron somehow survived getting encased in molten metal; I dunno how but he just did. He somehow broke himself free. Maybe his mechanical arm was still functional.

Should the Omega Oni be included? It might seem redundant with the Overlord there, but he technically WAS a big arc villain. It was a very short arc by Ninjago standards but whatever. Maybe having the Omega there could be used to contrast his existence with the Overlord's, and/or explain what the Overlord's whole relation to the Dragon/Oni divide even is.

Vex is retrieved from the Never-Realm. He's probably the least justified of all the villains to bring back given he's canonically a wimp, but maybe the Overlord selects him specifically for the psychological torment it'd bring on Zane. I like to think that Zane unsettles the Overlord because while it makes sense for the First Spinjitzu Master, and later his grandson, to defeat him... By comparison, Zane is a nobody in the eyes of the Overlord, just a master of another regular element, no more special than the rest; And yet he still beat him, put the Overlord down longer than Lloyd even did. So he's scared of Zane deep down, and he's using Vex as a way to get back at him.

Unagami gets corrupted by an evil virus because the Overlord already has experience with hacking given his stint in Rebooted. Unagami might be a bit more problematic for censors because once the show starts depicting him as a literal child, it might make censors uncomfortable to have him getting beaten up under any context, even if he did re-assume his Prime Empire form.

Mammatus is... Well, he could easily be crystalized. But given how his character is a racial caricature, I wouldn't be surprised if Lego wanted to avoid touching his character anymore; I suspect he was written as an actually reasonable person to avoid unfortunate implications, even if Ninjago still ended up doing that in a different way. Tbh I wish Mammatus and the Keepers got better focus and writing, especially during Seabound, but I can understand why he'd be left out.

Kalmaar is dead, but so were the villains in Day of the Departed. To break off on a side tangent, I'm surprised the writers killed off Kalmaar, despite Crystalized and its villains-returning gimmick being right around the corner. Given Vangelis and Aspheera were merely imprisoned, it'd have been easy to just have him be imprisoned, but I guess they didn't want to bring him back? But yeah, if you can bring back the dead by opening a portal to the Departed Realm with Traveler's Tea, then that opens up for a lot of villains to come back pretty easily.

So with all of these explanations in mind, our list would include;

Yeah, I left out the Mechanic and Mr. F. Mr. F was kind of a useless addition since he wasn't actually Mr. E, meaning the writers didn't bring back the dropped Echo Zane plotline. And unlike Mr. E, who had an actual presence and menace, I kinda forgot about Mr. F a lot of the time, and Harumi better represents the Sons of Garmadon. I also left out the Mechanic because he isn't really a major arc villain, just a recurring thug. Tbh I'd replace him with Soto, who could represent the first half of S2, and whose pirates are an actual existing faction with continued relevance, and even defeated Nadakhan!

Also, I’d like to think Zane’s Ice Emperor persona makes an actual dramatic return and not just as an ineffectual gag, like maybe he has to use the scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu to combat the Vengestone army, and seeing Vex again could trigger the past. It’s only for like one episode because we need Zane, but it’s a villain cameo for the arc where all the villains return.

But yeah, if we keep out Soto and Machia, that still brings us to 20 villains to juggle. Which is why this never could've happened. But I can dream, right? Writing a version of Crystalized that includes all of these characters and gives them some actual characterization and dynamics would be a Herculean feat.

(Now imagine a story that brings back all of these villains AND the ones from Dragons Rising…!)

What if every AU I thought of is really just another story in the same world?

Koko exists in the Show AU? Garmadon getting a good wife, Lloyd having a better mother than Misako (her show counterpart), the Ninja team have her as a reliable ally, and Wu doesn’t hold any romantic interest in her unlike how he does in her show counterpart. All Koko needs is a different name and origins.

Papa Krux AU? 20 years after being separated from his brother, Krux in disguise as Dr. Saunders accidentally falls for a young woman who turns out to be a mother. He learns how to be a parent to a young Vanessa, confronted the man who was unfaithful to Aiyana, accidentally revealed himself as Krux to her, and apologizes to her, getting ready to leave, even though it would just hurt even worse. She asked him to stay and he couldn’t refuse her. He ended up sticking around even longer when she birthed twin boys. He even got close to asking for marriage and maybe he could forget about ruling Ninjago (or have her at his side if not that many things changed). Unfortunately tragedy struck, Aiyana died and her children were sent to their closest relatives. He didn’t even get a chance to properly say goodbye. The Temporal War happens and he uses his forgotten parenting skills to care for Baby Wu temporarily, even though it made his brother suspicious and it triggered up old memories the old man didn’t want to remember.

Crossover AU? That’s just me finally writing down what I’ve thought about for the last 7-8 years.

Lloyd getting kicked out of Darkley’s because of a power mishap AU? Well, if we’re combining the Koko AU into this, then that means Lloyd was kidnapped by the people of Darkley’s school because they heard that Lloyd’s father was the infamous Lord Garmadon, a Master of Destruction and part Oni, so Lloyd would obviously had inherited those traits. With him on their side, they would be unstoppable. When Lloyd didn’t show these abilities, they pushed him. When nothing happened, they had doubts. One day, the boy was pushed too far and well, the school couldn’t control him, so they got rid off him. The only teacher good to him was lost that day. Poor boy couldn’t handle that guilt when he found out what he did.

Lloyd with the power of Destruction AU? Well, he has the power of creation, it’s not unlikely that he also has a destructive side to his powers. I suppose it’s a little dangerous to have him know that though.

Garmadon Lives AU? Season 4 happens my way! The Cursed Realm wasn’t opened, but Chen and his cultists die! A life for a life! Clouse survives and runs into hiding with his spell book. A summoning spell goes wrong and Morro is there. Garmadon’s monastery is still there (because honestly fuck Wu for destroying it for a failing business!). Morro finds a way to possess Lloyd, Lloyd tries to go to his dad for help, and Garmadad is pissed at his brother for not telling him about his old student. Idk how the rest of the seasons go, but season eight doesn’t happen exactly as you’d think. Garmadon instead has his Oni side ripped from him and his normal self is left in a coma during all of season 9. Season 10 though? He wakes up and is in control of his Oni self because goddammit if it weren’t for the writers, we’d have Garmadad as a badass Oni you know and that’s epic! (Please redesign him! He didn’t deserve it!)

Mutation AU? During (or maybe after) season 2, as a sub plot, Serpentine get kidnapped for their venom. Fangpyre for transformation, Hypnobrai for mind control, etc,. It actually turns out that they’re getting Serpentine venom to refine it for the purpose of making a living, breathing weapon. (Project: Nightshade)

Next Gen AU? The dangerous life the Ninja once lived catches up to them and their families.
