been talking a lot on here about jill valentine and her potential as a character but another character i think is often underutilised and disappointingly written is actually wesker. I would love it if they explored the real relationship dynamics between him and STARS, especially Jill and Chris. like it would be so much more interesting if he actually really liked them and maybe even misses his STARS days in his own way, but regrettably has to betray them and move forward with his plans because he genuinely 100% believes he is in the right. it would be gutwrenching if he, Jill and Chris all felt the weight of responsibility over friendship and commradarie, if they had to choose between personal feelings of "but I don't want to hurt you" and taking down who they see as the bad guy.
I mean, in Lost in Nightmares, they find the stuff about Project W. It would be cool if they reacted to this, if they tried to make those connections. It would be so interesting to see Jill and Wesker's dynamic change once she throws them out of the estate - having to work together, begrudgingly trying again to trust each other despite the constant betrayal. If Wesker truly believed he was in the right, it would be easy to try and convince Jill that his plan is the right one after all she's seen (e.g. seeing the effects of chaotic infection, seeing how quick humanity turns on itself, and knowing Wesker may have a way to finally control that chaos and maybe even take the pressure of heroism away from her). It would be a really fascinating portrayal of villainy coming from (twisted) good intention, and it would be kind of cool to see Jill becoming more morally grey.
It would also be interesting to explore Wesker's self-realisation as he slowly loses himself to megalomania in the exact same way Spencer did. Does he feel self-hatred because of this? Would a part of him feel relief at his death once he was mutated beyond recognition? Can he feel anything at all, is there humanity in him??? when he looks at chris, does he feel resentment for the person he could have become, or hatred that he could never have been what Chris is?
cartoonishly evil villains are fun, but I wonder if they'll explore any of this as they try and make the remakes a bit more serious (emphasis on a bit)

Poor Ada strikes out harder in this game than Leon did in OG.
There's something very poignant about the blocking of these two scenes when placed side-by-side.
Wesker stands in front, and he walks away from her.
Leon stands in back, and he makes her walk away from him.
They're both rejections. Wesker's become unhinged; he's going down a road that Ada can't follow him on, and he has no qualms about leaving her behind. Leon's become resolute; he makes a stand and puts his foot down because it's not that he can't follow her -- it's that he won't, and there's no love lost on his end.
The villain who's taken care of her for years has no further use for her, and the hero who wished he could've taken care of her years prior now looks at her with contempt.
Ada's left with no other choice than to take care of herself. These are the consequences of the decisions she's made since Raccoon City, the night that changed everything. She's able to start living a more honest life, but due to the mistakes she's made and lies she's told along the way, the start of an honest life -- for her -- is a lonely one.
But both Wesker and Leon are the past. Breaking away from both of them gives Ada an opportunity to move forward towards the future.

In Remake, it still made sense for Ada to kill Krauser (But even without that, they did good plot).
(actually, it's more about Ada and Luis' friendship, a little bit about Krauser and Leon's connection, and a little speculation that Wesker was the one who finally killed Krauser in the Remake.)
First, I want to say that I really love the work they've done for Separate Ways in Remake. Obviously, it turned out to be a cut above the original DLC, where we otherwise just ran through the locations that we ran through as Leon. The Original Separate Ways were good too, we saw Ada's perspective, the reports were a particularly good part of the roof on DLC. But still, the volume of Separate Ways in Remake is many times larger, in terms of passage time it is almost the same as Re3Make. So I'm, as Ada Stan, absolutely loves this.
It would be untrue to say that we were "robbed" just because Capcom didn't let Ada kill Krauser. They gave Ada the U-3, making U-3 her personal monster, her personal "nightmare" that belongs to her personally, not Leon, Ashley, Luis or anyone else. They created in a new boss for Ada and gave her the laser room. They tried to make an equal balance between Ada and Leon, between the difficulties and trials that they go through on their way. It is wonderful.
In the original, Ada fought Krauser twice: in Separate Ways (where it turned out that it was Ada who finally killed Krauser) and in Assignment Ada (non-canon DLC). They had built rivalry and distrust as Wesker's two "employees", and Krauser confirmed Ada as a "traitor" after Ada interfered with Wesker's direct order and prevented Krauser from killing Leon (then Krauser realized the romantic tension between Leon and Ada).
Tumblr media
Ada finished off Krauser because Krauser wanted her dead as a "traitor" and because a living Krauser could reveal her "betrayal" to Wesker.
Tumblr media
Remake removed this part of the conflict. Ada and Krauser did not have a single dialogue between themselves, Ada only unsuccessfully tried to catch Krauser, but he "defeated" her, run from her (unlike the original, where Ada studied Krauser's fighting style and successfully "eliminated" him). Krauser said he was killing "a couple of rats," meaning Ada and Luis, but that was it. Even the one who saves Leon from Krauser's knife is no longer Ada, but Luis. This makes sense, because now Krauser is Leon's "personal boss." The one who trained him all these years and made him who he is now. Leon's advice for Ada that "a knife is better for close contact" is literally what Krauser taught Leon. All those times when Leon wielded a knife in the game, these are the fruits of Krauser's training. From a narrative point, it makes sense that Leon is now the one who finally kills Krauser, the trope "the student has surpassed his teacher." Ada just doesn't have that connection with Krauser.
But there is one new aspect: Luis Serra.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Capcom has built a close partnership, even a friendship between Ada and Luis. Although Ada tried to follow the "work code", it is clear that these two actually began to genuinely care about each other. They finally let Ada build an emotional connection with someone who is not Leon: Ada pulled Luis out of the fire, Ada was the one who motivated Luis not to give up and breathed motivation into him to act, and this is what Luis means when he thanks Ada before he dies for giving him a chance to become the best a person being. Not that she demanded that he bring Amber for an unknown murky villainous dude (not much different from Saddler, whom Luis is trying to prevent), but that she gave him the motivation and strength to become a better person, recreate the antidote on his own and helped him throughout the process (it was Ada who collected all the ingredients for Luis... and again she puts off her direct work).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But all this turned out to be so that she would witness Luis' death at the hands of Krauser. She can't even say goodbye to him because Krauser stole Amber and now every second of time counts. Luis call Ada not for "she come and say goodbye to him", Luis does not expect this from Ada and does not ask her to "spend the last minutes with him", he even saves Leon from Krauser himself. All he asks is to take care of Leon for the foreseeable future (well, he doesn't know that taking care of Leon is what Ada is literally always doing). He did it. Ada did not "abandon" Luis for the sake of the mission, Luis called precisely so that Ada would find out that Krauser had stolen Amber and managed to give chase in time. If Ada had allowed herself to become weak because of his death, she would have lost time, this is not why Luis warns her about Krauser. He had already said goodbye to her when he said his last words to her and thanked her for the chance to become a "better person", now she could only go after the "bad guy". In order for someone to keep him company in the last moments of his life, Luis had Leon.
Tumblr media
So in terms of how Ada and Luis' relationship was built, Ada actually had a narrative point in killing Krauser. She doesn't have the strong bond with Krauser that Leon had, but she has another motivation, revenge for Luis Serra. In the summary of the chapter, her motivation to chase after Krauser is not even described as "taking Amber", only as "Ada chases after the man who just killed Luis", this is her real inner motivation to chase after Krauser. Not Amber, whom she will abandon at the end of the game, but to catch up with the man who killed Luis.
(love the way they put it in the content of the chapter. Luis' words about "Krauser just stole the Amber". but Ada's motivation to chase after Krauser and how does she perceive Krauser in the first? "man who just killed Luis".)
Tumblr media
Ada didn't have time to say goodbye to Luis, but if she could deal with Krauser as an act of retribution for Luis' murder, it would give some compensation and it would work for the players. Krauser's death at Leon's hands was not "revenge for Luis' murder", it was a personal moment of Leon and Krauser's bond, the culmination of their own teacher-student relationship, at the end of which Krauser recognizes Leon as his equal. But it's not about Luis. Therefore, if they had given Ada a final fight with Krauser, Krauser's "death" at the hands of Leon would have been the end of their relationship, then Krauser's death at the hands of Ada would have been retribution for Luis' murder. It wouldn't hurt what kind of closure Leon and Krauser got, because in their relationship, the fact that Krauser recognized Leon (and Leon got his knife, the narrative meaning is clear) was important, not that Leon killed Krauser. Reading some of the comments, I can agree that Krauser's death did not look "final" (Leon just stabbed him with a knife, which does not look like a convincing final death, but maybe it was Wesker who really killed Krauser and eventually took his body, which also makes a lot of sense... especially for RE5).
Tumblr media
But they took a more interesting path and gave more than just "Ada killed Krauser" (in my mind). They gave Ada a different ending to this conflict when, with the help of files that Luis gave her, she deactivated the explosion of the entire island, giving Leon and Ashley a chance to escape from the island (which was not only about Luis, but about her own feelings for Leon). This is also satisfactory.
Tumblr media
I agree with Capcom that the idea of how Ada fulfills the last request/will of Luis and the entire island section, where Ada literally encounters and defeats Amber's living incarnation, is much more and more interesting than just "Ada killed Krauser definitively." So I'm glad with what we got. Capcom has done a really amazing plot.

so i wasn't gonna make a separate post about this but @sapphire-weapon had a post (that i reblogged a few days ago) in which someone mentioned that they think it was a missed opportunity in RE6 for jake to not have spoken to wesker. i had a p long conversation with sirea about it and my thoughts about that sentiment, but it was also nearly 3 AM my time when that happened so i dunno if i was even articulating my thoughts properly lmao
and yes... this is technically a meta post and i know i said i was gonna do the mmx meta post first... but this one isn't gonna be nearly as long (i hope) and i gotta get the brainworms out before i die
(quick edit note: i reworded the list item below from saying he was "likely a drug addict" to "likely a recreational drug user" because i feel like that better encompasses what i'm trying to get across
(another edit note: i made another post regarding jake's usage of drugs that stemmed from this post! it's marked as mature bc of drug usage, so it won't show up in tag search. if you're interested in that, look here!)
so the idea that wesker being alive in OG RE6 would have brought an opportunity for jake's character is kinda, imo, antithetical to the purpose of jake's character in the first place.
when we meet jake, we know a few things about him, right off the bat:
he's a mercenary
he's likely a recreational drug user or at least heavy/risk-taking user
he doesn't give a fuck about anything but making money
his whole character journey is going from this selfish, money-focused dickhead to someone who actually cares about doing something good, just because it's the right thing to do. at the start, jake refuses to simply give his blood away when sherry mentions needing it for a vaccine. no, he wants a cash payout. 50 million dollery-doos for a pint of his blood. by the end, he lowers the price to a mere 50 dollars. one could argue that was symbolic and he actually didn't care if he was paid or not, but that's neither here nor there.
but why was he like this? because his childhood was shite; his mother was sickly, he had no father figure, and by 15-ish, jake had to learn how to hustle to keep food on the table. and by "hustle" i mean "do a bunch of mercenary work and killing people." and when shit went south with his little group of mercenaries (their entire group was sold out by a heel-turner), jake basically went "fuck alla y'all" and lost all sense of conviction or morals.
during the game, he expresses his bitterness for his father, wesker, pretty clearly. even though his mother still loved wesker, tried to raise jake to respect him despite never knowing him, it didn't matter to jake. he hated that guy. well, really, who doesn't?
we're not gonna talk about excella rn ok
jake's entire character arc is built up around this hatred as well as a subconscious fear of becoming his father. the fear part doesn't show up until later in the story, after he and sherry were captured by the Big Bad's organization. they were both experimented on for several months, during which jake overheard the researchers talking about his father, wesker. this gives jake a sort of "explanation" as to why he is the way he is; he takes the "nature" side of the nature vs nurture argument.
ofc sherry scolds his ass and basically tells him "grow up and take responsibility for your actions."
and here's the thing... this fear, narratively, works just fine without wesker being there.
(since this got obscenely long, pls continue below for the actual explanation lmao)
jake eventually comes to the conclusion that yeah no it's definitely up to him to not become wesker, not his genetics. he does this without wesker being there. that's the entire point of his character journey. in order for an interaction with wesker to even matter or have any sort of impact on jake's character arc, his character arc as a whole would need to change.
see, imo, wesker being there diminishes a lot of the power of that journey. in the game, he isn't there for jake to scream at, to question. all those thoughts in his head that might be circulating around, like why he left his mother, why he did what he did, etc, cannot be answered. this is not a bad thing in a character arc as this is shit that happens to people all the time. people don't always get the answers they may want from family members because those family members are dead. they have to learn to move on without those answers or they have to rely on people who knew that person to fill in the blanks. this is what jake already does in game. he has to rely on sherry, and by a smaller extent, chris, to fill in those blanks for him.
but we as players, observers of the narrative, already know the answers to some of those questions. why wesker did what he did, primarily. anything else is only pertinent to jake and him knowing those answers doesn't change anything for his character arc as it is.
if wesker was there in the game, what would that even add to jake's narrative? a scene where jake yells at his dad? asks him "why did you leave?" when wesker wasn't even aware that he had a kid in the first place? remember: wesker had no fucking idea that he had a child. there would be no reason for wesker to even believe jake in the first place. sure, there could be a scene where he goes "well i'll be damned, ig he really is my misfired chromosome," but... then what? what does that add?
you could argue that wesker could use jake, maybe try to manipulate him into doing shit for his plans, but... that wouldn't work with the way jake's characterization is mapped out. his entire characterization would have to change for this to work in a satisfying way.
jake already hates wesker without ever meeting him. he would not willingly participate in anything wesker offered to him. he already knows that wesker nearly destroyed the world multiple times and had a hand in destroying an entire city. even if jake has no moral compass at the start of the game, by the time he learns about what wesker really did, who he really was, he's already showing that he does have one, it was just dormant up until that point. he's clearly disgusted by what wesker did. what foothold would wesker have that wouldn't immediately result in it just falling flat?
given how wesker is, i could see him perhaps belittling jake, maybe saying "wow you suck for being my spawn," or something during a fight with the intent to rile him up. would that work? no, not narratively nor not in the way jake is characterized. again, jake doesn't want to be like wesker. why would insulting him and saying he's not "as good" as wesker expected him to be motivate jake or even anger him? it shouldn't, because jake doesn't want to be anything like wesker. if anything, it may annoy him, but that's kind of a lame reaction, right?
if anything, the most i could see culminating out of this would be jake standing over wesker after he's defeated again (because it's resident evil and obviously wesker can't win) and having a "wow idk what i was worried about" moment. that's it.
but he doesn't need that. having a scene like that cheapens the weight of him figuring that out himself, without wesker there as "proof."
because the point of his story, of his character arc, is that he figures that out on his own (and with the help of sherry and the events he witnesses) because he has to. he doesn't need wesker there to spoon-feed that to him. he figures that out by working with sherry, by seeing the effects of the C-Virus on everything that it infects. wesker being an abstract entity in his life is enough, because the frustration of not seeing him, not being able to put a bullet in his skull himself, fuels the rest of his journey.
this is where i think that people who make these observations or criticisms (primarily those who think that jake's character would have been improved if wesker was there) need to understand the difference between what's good for a character as a person and what's good for their arc.
interacting with wesker would be good for jake as a person, in that he would no longer need to wonder about it. the answers would be spelled out for him, and he wouldn't have to do any wondering about the what-if. he wouldn't have any doubts left that he'd need to untangle.
but in doing that, it cheapens his arc; it would do more of a disservice to it, imo, than anything else. it would make his journey more formulaic and boring.
it would also clutter up the already cluttered narrative of that game. you have him not only struggling with his heritage, struggling with the fear of becoming his father, struggling with needing to be the "savior" by giving his blood, struggling with his moral compass, but now also struggling with seeing his father for the first time in person?
it makes his arc top-heavy. in that scenario, you could easily replace him with another, completely new character who has zero ties to wesker and the story wouldn't change in any meaningful way. the reason why it works the way to does now is because wesker is already dead. it creates that internal conflict, that internal frustration, that jake has to learn how to deal with since he cannot take that frustration out on his father in-person. he has to make peace with that struggle in other ways.
now, that's not to say there aren't ways that adding wesker into the story of RE6 that don't disrupt that balance. primarily, when it comes to a potential RE6 remake, the writing team can (and hopefully will) rework aspects of the entire game to make the plot more streamlined. this could include adding wesker in and redoing jake's characterization and character arc entirely.
this would be the only way i could see it working out. if jake's entire motivation was changed, his entire backstory was tweaked, then wesker being around could probably work! an interaction between them could be made to make sense and not bog down the rest of the plot as a result.
sirea also mentioned to me in our conversation that adding wesker in to RE6 remake could actually help streamline the plot and i do agree with that. she mentioned that all of the main characters have a tie to wesker in some way, which is absolutely true. having him there would neatly tie their campaigns together in the plotline and make the game as a whole feel less disjointed and messy.
this is especially true when we consider there are 4 fuckin campaigns that all run alongside one another and intersect at random points. it gets so fucking difficult to page through and figure out when certain things happen in the plot. you'll see them happen in order in chris's campaign, for example, then you go start leon's campaign and have to start over again and try to remember what happened at the same time during chris's campaign and so on.
now imagine that not with just two campaigns but four. it gets gross quick. sure, there are parts where the characters run into each other and that helps ground a general timeline in your head, but as far as time elapsed... it's so fuckin hard u guise
there's a reason why it's so hard to summarize the plot of RE6. it's because there is just so much going on in that fucking game.
anyway, that's my rant/sort of meta analysis about why i think wesker didn't need to be in OG RE6 and probably would have made jake's entire arc stupider than it already was

who do you think would ultimately when in a fight?
saddler, simmons, or wesker?
I know this is a joke ask, but I’ve legitimately put thought into this. Also coming from your armand blog makes this question so much better. Also the fact that you said when not win.
I’ve been wracking my brain over this all night long, because every time I think I have a solid answer, something changes my mind.
Because there are so many different factors and scenarios that could come into play. Especially when it comes to Wesker. Like are we talking just prototype virus? His injections in 5? full blow Uroboros Wesker? Does he have any resources? Like he’s a wild card. Is this DBD? Do I have to think about eldrich horrors??
So, let’s break this up into multiple parts; Saddler vs. Wesker, Saddler vs. Simmons, Wesker vs. Simmons, and the massive mess that would be all 3 at once.
Tumblr media
Before we get into the the fun part, I wanna go over like their respective abilities and mutations ahead of time to make it simpler.
Starting with Lord Saddler.
(and I will be taking RE4R into account.)
We’ve got his human form, his final boss form, and the giant wreathing tentacle mass that is his final final form. He's also able to mutate parts of himself on a whim, and quickly go back.
With his human form he’s extremely fast, has a healing factor that allows him to not only heal literal headshots in a matter of seconds, but shoot projectiles back at assailants. When he wants. He’s very resilient. and terrifying.
His ability to call and bring in novistadors in both his human and final boss form makes for some really useful backup.
In his final boss form he’s slower, but massive, and can jump pretty fucking high. He's got sharp points at the end of his spider-y legs and those sharp boney tentacles at his disposal. Sure his weakspot is out in the open, but he can also crush people with the pincers(??) on his head.
The final final form is a massive immobile mass of writhing leviathan sized tentacles. Those can pack a punch by simply slamming down into things. Granted, he's the most vulnerable in this form.
Tumblr media
Now onto Mr. Bolo tie, Simmons.
With enhanced C-Virus, Simmons has the ability to mutate indefinitely, and without the need to turn into a chrysalis like with regular C.
He can shift/shuffle back and forth to his human form regardless of a couple of his forms. which is both useful and a really really big disadvantage. Makes it easy to kick the shit out of him.
So, that being said, his notable mutated forms are beast/centaur, gigantosaurus, and the giant fly. The first being very fast, and able to shoot projectiles. Plus claws and all that. The second is well, a big ass B.O.W. dinosaur. He's big, has some bone plating, and has some really big teeth. Imagine dinosaur things, he can do those.
Without zombies or something to consume in order to heal and mutate further, I don’t think his giant fly form is applicable. Though maybe he could eat novistadors? if it came to that? But regardless, it has its sheer size going for it. we need really really big fly tape.
Tumblr media
And now the ball of worms that is Wesker.
After injecting the Prototype virus, Wesker gained super human abilities. He can move so fast that it looks like he’s warping. He’s strong enough to punch a hole through a person’s chest, and catch and hold back rockets. What were the developers of RE5 on.
Being very skilled in both armed and unarmed combat, his melee is just as strong if not stronger than weaponry. If we look at him in Mercenaries, and Rev:2 raid mode, he’s a force to be reckoned with. especially with that big knife.
Throw Uroboros in the mix and things really start heating up.
It makes him bigger, even stronger, and gives him so many worms. Err, tentacles?? Tendrils?? Uroboros is one of those nasty viruses that consumes all organic matter it comes in contact with, and uses it to grow.
Wesker, however, doesn’t really use it in that manner? But I imagine it’s painful for others just getting touched by it.
Uroboros also makes Wesker extremely resilient and resistant to most damage. This man had to take a rocket launcher to the face in order to die, despite sinking in literal lava. So this generally unstable virus gives him one hell of an advantage. But does he really need it to be a threat in this fight?
Tumblr media
So lets get into it finally !!
Saddler Vs. Simmons;
So ultimately, I think Simmons would win.
They’re relatively evenly matched, I don’t think it would be hard for Saddler to handle Simmons’ centaur form. He has the speed, the ability to throw his projectiles right back at him. Doing enough damage would cause Simmons to shuffle back to normal, which makes him really vulnerable. Even if Saddler had to mutate, his final boss form could deal with him easy. But Simmons always comes back.
Gigantosaurus Simmons has the upper hand. Most of his head is just a giant mouth with some big teeth.
He also has a lot of bone on him, which helps him get some defense. Final boss Saddler is all limbs and tentacles. One good bite from Simmons can cripple him. I think it’d take more than one bite to rip off a piece of him, but biting and tearing is still going to do damage. Sure, Simmons’ weak point is in his mouth; but aiming for that comes with the risk jaws closing around said tentacles.
If Saddler is able to do enough damage to cause Simmons to shuffle back into a human, then he could crush him or impale him easily. However, it’s a matter of can he do that much damage fast enough? Before he goes down? Or is badly hurt? The odds would be super close. BUT. He keeps coming back.
Saddler wouldn’t be doing too hot by the time he turned into a fly, and sure, that form isn’t as strong, Simmons’ attacks are really meh. But it’s fresh, it’s at full health, and I think our dear lord would be limping into that fight.
It’d be bloody and long and close, but I think Simmons would come out on top. Based solely on his dinosaur form and having whittled Saddler down over time.
Tumblr media
Saddler Vs. Wesker
Against Saddler’s human form, Wesker could hold his own without weaponry. It wouldn’t be easy, Saddler’s ability to heal alone would be a massive pain. With weaponry, even if it was just a gun and a knife, he’d do infinitely better. I do think Saddler would be able to get the drop on him like he did with Ada though, in the right circumstances. Then he can dangle him and lure chris into a fight.
As far as final boss form goes, Wesker can hold his own for a while without weaponry, but he wouldn’t win. Saddler is too big, and too strong. Honestly, it’d be a really long game of cat and mouse. With weaponry, even just a knife and a handgun, he’d win. Listen, if Leon could do it, Wesker can do it easier and better.
If he was infected with uroboros, then it would be a more intense and interesting fight. Both have ranged attacks involving tentacles/tendrils. Despite still being a lot smaller than Saddler’s boss form, his amplified physical strength would put him on same level regardless of body size. Not to mention he becomes much more resilient against attacks. It’s a matter of out-surviving the other one.
I think Wesker would ultimately win. He’d find a way regardless.
Tumblr media
Simmons Vs. Wesker.
The same thing applies when it comes to him vs. Simmons. If Leon can do it, Wesker can do it even better. Granted in this case, Leon needed help. So I’m keeping that in mind. Without uroboros, Wesker would need weapons of some sort and a way to use the environment to his advantage. Especially against the dinosaur form. Because it does have that armored plating, and only has one weakpoint.
His speed would help him dodge centaur projectiles, as well as rush attacks, also any stomping done by the dinosaur form. But doing damage to his stronger mutations is where he falls short. Or at least, doing damage quickly. Uroboros would put him on equal footing. He’s a smaller target than Saddler, a bit harder to get. Has some good ranged attacks that can chip away at his defenses. And the best part? Simmons can bite off his tendrils. It wouldn’t hurt Wesker. Sure he’d have to reabsorb the pieces, but it wouldn’t hurt him. Hell they could start truing to consume Simmons if he doesn’t spit them out.
And once Simmons shuffles back down to a person? He’s going to get wrecked. Even if he manages to reach his fly form. It just might take Wesker a little longer.
All 3 of them in one giant fight;
It’d be one giant mess, and honestly someone should just nuke the whole thing. Wesker wouldn’t win, he’d get away to survive. Saddler and Simmons? That’s a fight to the death. A big bloody fight.
Tumblr media
In conclusion;
Wesker is OP. When I started writing this whole thing I didn’t think it would be Wesker. In fact I was almost certain it would be Simmons. Sorry Saddler :c ily. but after looking into things, Wesker really stood out.
A great litmus test for this is if Leon can kill it, it’d be a lot easier for Wesker to do so.
Ultimately, I’m no expert. I’ve confused myself so many times while writing this, and I’m sure there’s contradictions. But I still had fun with it and put some thought and research into it.
If you made it this far thank you! I hope you enjoyed it, or found it interesting.💕💕
I really love questions like this, and sharing my thoughts. (even though I go overboard.) And if anyone wants to weigh in with their thoughts, opinions, headcanons and all that, please do! It’ll be a fun conversation. I’m also down for more asks like this ngl xD

Another anon here. I agree with you. Wesker was abused. People think if you are given a good education, food, and clothes that you are loved. No. Wesker was an experiment. If he failed, if he fell short of Spencer's standards, he would be replaced, he would be terminated just like Lisa Trevor. Lisa Trevor was also Spencer's pet, his experiment. Lisa was once a beautiful and smart young girl, doted on by Spencer until the viruses in her body mutated her rendering her useless to Spencer. In the reports, Wesker as a teenager was terrified of Lisa. He knew....he knew as it is implied, that he one day could be Lisa too. Wesker has a strong will to live, so he succeeded to survive. Then he betrayed Spencer by faking his death. If Wesker felt safe or loved why would he do that? This makes him an exceptional villain, an interesting character. Apologies, I wrote too much.
You did not write to much at all. Thank you so much for putting it out there, you are so right. It's good to know some people out there get it!

Wesker + S.T.A.R.S.
Wesker has ... lets say complicated feelings towards his time as a STARS captain and his fellow team members. As much as he'd like to pretend otherwise, working closely with the team for a year and a half ( and maybe a bit more ) left some marks. Playing the role of the protective, caring captain to such perfection took both a lot of careful planning and DEDICATION. It is obvious that Wesker put in enough work to make his team appreciate and trust him considering things such as Jill being willing to consider Barry is the traitor during the mansion incident simply because Wesker implied there's something off about him. Rebecca, Jill and Chris are all shocked and horrified to find out the truth when they confront Wesker in the lab. Rebecca especially seems struggle to accept the betrayal. It is obvious then, that Wesker succeeded in bonding with his team beforehand, to ensure they have FAITH in him and don't see 'X-day' coming.
It makes sense that Wesker put a lot of effort into ensuring his team genuinely looks up to and likes him. A team like this HAS to be able to follow orders and rely on their captain to lead them or they'd fall apart very quickly. It is also simply beneficial for his true intentions to be liked. The more his team trusts him the less likely he is to be discovered even if something should happen to threaten or weaken his cover. Wesker also had the advantage of retaining a lot of control over STARS by the virtue of Umbrella being one of its biggest sponsors, like obtaining seniority over Enrico despite Enrico being the more popular choice, older than him and more experienced.
So what about the team itself? Alpha team had a lot of direct contact with Wesker, so did Bravo team if Rebecca's experiences are anything to go by, and she only joined a month before the incident so clearly, Wesker spends a CONSIDERABLE amount of time with both teams. We only really have the mansion incident to go off, but during that event Wesker frequently fakes concern for the missing members of STARS and even takes up the support role for Chris that Barry fills for Jill in scenes where Rebecca cannot or should not be present. It becomes clear why STARS trusted him despite his uptight and arrogant attitude that even his attempt to fake being a great boss couldn't always cover entirely for the sheer length of this assignment.
Was it all fake then? Well ... kind of. Its complex. Again, as stated before, you cannot be a leader for a task force such as STARS and not get somewhat personally involved. People won't open up to you and trust you if you don't give a little of yourself too. I doubt Wesker told many real stories during his time as alpha teams leader but the truth may have been hidden in some of them, the tiniest hint of genuine emotions that he CAN offer to STARS given the circumstances. He also clearly picked favourites, given the fact he praises Chris for figuring out the truth while only getting annoyed at Jill for being in the way. While I'd say it is definitely not friendship or love that connects Wesker with Chris there is certainly some type of fondness he feels for him, as twisted as it may be. Jill on the other hand is someone he seems to perceive as more of a threat, someone he knows he can't silence as easily as he did with Barry and who would never see things his way ( as he may have hoped Chris would, further suggesting he formed some kind of twisted fondness for Chris ). It is also obvious that he views Rebecca as the weak link, likely due to her age and naivety.
Despite the hints and implications at Wesker's genuine connection to the team though, he also clearly has no issue terminating the team given that he executes Enrico himself and shoots Rebecca with zero remorse. Despite this, saying STARS meant nothing to him would be WRONG. He did connect with his team, he did have some weird bond with them he just happens to have a very easy time stepping away from a situation and cutting ties no matter how strong the bond between him and the team was. In all honesty Wesker would have liked to keep Chris alive and possibly at his side but he also had no issues facing the REALITY that Chris was a risk and if he moved against Wesker ( which he did ), there would be no room for emotions to get in the way of what 'had to be done'. Wesker is a realist and a brutal one at that. He likes cold hard facts and will put them above any human connection he has made with basically no hesitation. We see a similar thing happen to his friendship with Birkin. While he would have liked to evacuate Birkin and his family from RC, he also knew when to cut his losses and abandon a hopeless case to continue his own work.

Resident Evil meta analysis master post
This is a comprehensive list of what I consider to be my most important meta analysis posts -- but they're not my only posts about it. Check out my #meta analysis tag for more.
General Meta:
Resident Evil 4 Remake's story is structured like the plot of a romance novel
One of RE4make's major themes is "the power/meaning of being part of a team (or not)"
Why playing the games is vital to writing meta analysis
Character Meta:
Leon:
Leon was never in STRATCOM
Leon's wiki page is filled with lies and bullshit
The premise behind fandom's understanding of Leon's character is flawed and absurd
Map of Leon's double-negative change arc in RE2make followed by his positive change arc in RE4make
Leon is "The Protector" archetype
RE4 Leon is still mentally/emotionally 21
OG Leon is a whore who's lonely and fucking hates himself
"This time, it has to be different..." is in reference to Leon's faith in humanity (and also himself)
Ada:
Map of Ada's positive change arc in RE4make
The purpose of having Ada witness the "For Luis" scene
Remake Ada is as selfish character
Ada gets rejected by both Wesker and Leon in Remake
Ashley:
Map of Ashley's positive change arc in RE4make
Ship Meta:
Aeon (Ada/Leon):
The Aeon-hater's guide to understanding OG Aeon
Unpacking the tram scene in RE2make
Separate Ways killed Aeon in the Remake timeline (and here's how)
EagleOne (Ashley/Leon):
Breaking down the Dining Hall conversation (eagleone is canon)
Allegorically romantic moments between Leon and Ashley: • The pep talk scene • The balcony scene • The suppressant scene
Chreon (Chris/Leon):
No one loves Leon Kennedy as much as Chris Redfield does
MetalTango (Krauser/Leon):
Remake Krauser was not an abuser and Leon loved him
Weskada (Wesker/Ada):
A case for OG-verse Weskada

I have no questions about the fact that Steve died. It was tragic, but good storyline. his death definitely made sense from the point of view of history, and was not prescribed only for the sake of "shock value" (Alexia had a direct motivation to do this: it was clear how angry Alexia was because of her brother's death, so revenge was expected). so we got a bold and good-tragic ending for a this wonderful character?
this would have been the case if Capcom hadn't said in Wesker's words that Steve would live, ahem.
Tumblr media
many dismiss these words as that Wesker was just mocking Claire, he had no reason to resurrect Steve, so shouldn't take these words seriously. but this was clearly a Chekhov gun, they have no reason to prescribe: "maybe he will rise like me and even see your sister," if this is not what Capcom had in mind for the next games. we are talking about the moment where Wesker, who was pierced through by a Tyrant, stands in front of the protagonists alive and fatly hints that "maybe" Steve will also come to life ("maybe" is clearly superfluous here).
it's look like Steve's death was not supposed to be "final" for them, their story should have been planned to continue. just like they did with Ada. (we can see some parallels, yeah)
Tumblr media
but they got away from it and we will never see such.
maybe Steve would become something like the Winter Soldier from Marvel for "The Organization"/Albert Wesker, who knows? would become something like was Jill in RE5?
anyway, Capcom "kinda forgot about this".

i will do art of some of this eventually but like, the prototype virus sure gave wesker cat eyes but also he really did become incredibly catlike. he has little fangs- they're only noticeable if you're up close but when your'e up close it's obvious he has them, if he doesn't trim his nails they will be like claws and yeah he can maim with those! he purrs! it's a low rumble sort of sound, but like a cat, he'll do it to self soothe or when he's injured (cats' purrs can actually heal bones and tissues it's WILD), and sometimes just when he's content.
he also, of course, got taller. really, he just got bigger everywhere- man went from 6'0 to 6'7 over a span of 10 years. he didn't expect this, because it eventually led to an entire wardrobe restock, because nothing he had properly fit him ...

Feeling fucking INTENSE Resident Evil nostalgia. I'm 19 again with a crush on Wesker. Im back watching old trashy RE youtube parodies by homophobic teen boys in the early 2000s. This is fucking AWFUL.
