#what are queue doing in my swamp

Hey! I have a plan and a question as growing season gets closer and you're about the only Solarpunk person I feel comfortable asking this to, but for context, there's a park across the street from my apartments and they built a waterpark on part of it, but all the trucks and stuff left this large spot that collects and holds water pretty often I want to plant some semi-wetland wildflowers there, but my main concern is the plants getting mowed down once they start growing. Is there anything you think I could do to stop it?

I haven’t done a lot of guerrilla gardening so I can’t speak from personal experience but I would think there’s a handful of things you could do to prevent mowing, mostly by making the area look as Intentional and Official as possible. This could likely include things like

- Making a sign. Something to name the garden, something like ‘abcxyz park wildflower garden’ or something to make it seem official or at least notable.

- Surround it with stones, I guess like paver stones or just Large Rocks. Or just in general something to signal ‘don’t mow here’ like wood beams or something. I doubt someone on a riding lawnmower or a push mower would dedicate the time to push/move it all aside (unless directly told to) and would instead just skirt around it. It could help if you added mulch as well maybe? They also sell like little short fences/borders and edging at places like Lowes or Home Depot that could maybe work too

- If you’re feeling funky maybe you could make a walking path through it? Make it look even more Intentional and Official. I think that would make it a Several Night Operation instead of just a one night thing, but it would make it look official and encourage people to enjoy the space. I’m thinking a path made of like. Pebbles or something at this point.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. Maybe if anyone else has ideas, they can chime in?

Sighhh i just adore team whump. I could always go on about this because the amount of possibilities are near endless. Give me complex relationships between characters!! Make your whumpees suffer while no one around them bats an eye, toxic team dynamics suck but the whump around them… Found family but make it hurt comfort!!

To preface this, I know there are parts of this that make me look bad. I know. I've been a substandard boss and I should've taken care of the situation a long time ago. But I'm in a bind and I really just need to know if I'd compound my assholishness by doing the main thing I'm about to ask.

I manage a manufacturing business that also has a delivery component. We make the product and make sure it gets where it needs to go--which I'm sure you understand isn't as easy as it used to be, with Amazon and Temu and all of those nipping at our nose. The manufacturing sector is working fine, no complaints, absolutely shipshape. It's in deliveries where the problem starts.

We have a newer employee who...let's just say stands out from the rest of the bunch, who are mostly old guard. They're reliable, I've been working with them for years, but they're set in their ways and have been giving the new guy shit, especially over his appearance. It's not even about something he can control, poor kid, but I don't want to get more specific than that. I've been so swamped with getting everything ready for the holiday season that I dropped the ball and let them treat the kid pretty poorly. I know I can't dictate what they do outside of work, so them leaving him out of social events was out of my hands, but I've caught them calling him just awful things when they thought I wasn't around. I should've come down harder but I was afraid our productivity would suffer as a result. (And if I'm honest, I thought a little bullshit would toughen the kid up. Our industry isn't for the faint of heart, after all.)

But now we're down to the deadline and I think he's our only option. He's the perfect choice, and the kicker is it's BECAUSE he's different from the rest of the guys. But I'd feel like a bit of an ass if I asked him to swoop in and save us after the way everyone's treated him. WIBTA if I asked Rudolph, with his nose so bright, to guide my sleigh tonight? Time-sensitive question, sorry mod, but maybe just this once you can move it up the queue? After all, I did bring you that Pokemon game you wanted more than anything when you were ten!

Jaster looked over his shoulder at the stranger that was staring at the skewers in his hands. They were young, but tall. Pale in all their features, which contrasted with the black poncho they wore. A beige sort of flight-suit peeked out from the dark fabric. No armor worth mention.

Aruetii, Jaster’s mind decided.

Which, on Navarro, wasn’t actually that out of the ordinary.

“It is.” He decided that this most likely was truly just an honest question by a passerby interested in the local cuisine. “But I wouldn’t recommend it if you aren’t used to spices. The stall owner tends to be quite generous in their use.”

Pale eyes darted back and forth between him and the skewers. The sauce they were glazed in was red enough to support his claims visually, but Jaster knew that seeing certainly didn’t always mean believing. Not with aruetiise, in any case.

“I think I’ve built up somewhat of a tolerance,” the pale aruetii said, stroking their chin. “My gramps likes to cook up this stuff he calls swamp-stew and depending on his mood he does like to add some heat to that.”

Jaster almost forgot that his buy'ce wasn’t currently on his head, but clipped to his belt and his doubt must have shown. But the aruetii took it with stride – or confidence. After all, who was to say that this ‘swamp-stew’ didn’t pack a punch? Far be it from Jaster of all people to doubt the culinary abilities of other people’s grandparents. Such things only ended you in an early grave. Or in the ‘fresher for extended periods of time.

So he simply shrugged. “Then feel free to try. Tough you probably won’t want to take the additional dip they offer. It’s mostly just a really astringent coagulated grease to humans and near.” The stall-owner herself was neimoidian and apparently to her the sauce tasted sweet. It was quite fascinating, even if the experience had first left a bitter taste in Jaster’s mouth. Literally.

The aruetii made a considering noise. “Good to know, I won’t try that then.” Then, they nodded and took a step back. “Safe hunting,” they said and before Jaster could reply anything, they had dipped off and joined the queue in front of the skewer stall.

Which was fine by Jaster, Jango probably was already waiting for him at the meeting point.

<Komari,> her Master’s voice crackled in over her earpiece, <You weren’t supposed to make contact with our target.>

“Relax, Master.” Komari leaned against the thick signal antenna jutting out from the roof of the house she’d climbed on. It was a good vantage point and really convenient to keep track of the Mando they’d been shadowing. The skewers in her hands were slowly dripping still-hot oil on the paper napkins she’d grabbed along with them. “I just asked him for his food recommendations. I doubt that’s made him suspect anything.”

<It’s the principle, Padawan! You can’t just go up to a target and start chatting them up! What if he’d recognized you as a Jedi? What if–>

Komari tuned Master Dooku’s indignant tirade out with the skill of someone who’d been doing this for years. Instead, she turned her focus on the mouth-watering morsels in her hands. She’d gotten one of each variety the stall offered: vegetables in a cheesy crust and an assortment of meats and pieces of dried fruit. Both thickly coated in a well-caramelized, glistening red marinade.

The only question that remained now was which one she should taste first.

Hm. Her Master always said that it was bad manners to start eating the meat first.

A grin twitched at the corners of her mouth.

What was life without a bit of rebellion?

Boring, that’s what.

She took a bite of the meat skewer. It was wonderful. Moist and tender and slightly sweet from the fruit skewered up next to it and…

“Urk.”

Immediately, Master Dooku sounded alarmed. <Komari? What happened? Are you alright?>

“No, yes,” she pressed out between flat pants, “Nothing happened. Don’t worry, Master.”

Damn, she thought with tears already forming in her eyes, that guy really wasn’t kidding about these being spicy.

With her mouth on fire, Komari then took another bite and smiled.

Temple Redesign for Twiniverse fan project thingy

Since I'm redoing a lot of old pages, it's probably time to update the Temple Fusion. Considering it's just an Obsidian made with Rose, Pearl, Jasper, Peridot, and Lapis... and then I just took out Jasper's gem and added Amethyst and Ruby... that's kind of boring. She's beautiful imo but she's just not unique to Twiniverse.

Sooooo I'm going to be redesigning her. And her name will be Onyx, based on black onyx with white and golden markings. She'll have some kind of crown that has both Pearl and Peridot's gems... and I'm thinking of maybe making her somewhat... cryptid-ish? Like a mothman kind of thing but less... animalistic?

Anyway I'm telling y'all this because... I am not good at designing monsters lol. That's a big reason I didn't redesign Obsidian to begin with. Soooooooooo what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna ask you guys for ideas.

This is not a contest. There will be no prizes. But I WILL reblog every "entry" and show them off later in a livestream.

Just kind of a fun thing. I most likely won't choose any one design, it will just really help me solidify a design by having lots of new ideas from fans!

All you need to do is make a post with your ideas, which can be something you've drawn or just a bunch of reference pictures and a description of what you think Onyx would look like. She does NOT have to be based on Obsidian or the Twiniverse Obsidian. She also does NOT have to have any design components I mentioned above (the crown, the cryptid thing, etc). Just whatever you personally feel like the fusion would look like =)

@ me in the post and tag it 'twiniverse' and I'll add it to a list of all the ideas I've got! And when I start getting the feeling I've gotten an idea of what the final product will be I will do a livestream and feature all of the suggestions as I work on the concepts for Onyx.

Mean Streak at Cedar Point!

Big, long, fast and boring. Those are the four main words I would use to describe Mean Streak to you. The ride was huge, with it's almost 5 and a half thousand feet of track, but it chose to not do anything interesting whatsoever with that track. It was just long drawn out turn after long drawn out turn. The fact that the ride was rough also didn't help matters either.

It wasn't as egregious as Swamp Fox, but it wasn't a whole lot better. My favorite personal anecdote about Mean Streak is the way my dad described the experience: Imagine you're sitting on a stool in the middle of a blank room. A buzzer sounds, and a bunch of hatches open up at the base of the walls around the perimeter of the room. A half dozen or so orangutans all run out and start beating you with 2 by 4s for about 2 and a half minutes. The buzzer sounds again, the orangutans run away and the hatches close within a few seconds and you're sitting there trying to figure out what the hell just happened. Mean Streak, everyone lmao.

While the ride experience left a lot to be desired, I have to give Mean Streak credit for it's visual appearance. Not many coasters give you the sense of immensity that Mean Streak did, at least not in the same way. To quote my dad again, he said standing in the middle of the ride walking through the queue felt like being in the middle of a cyclone of wood, and honestly that was a good way to describe it. The ride felt huge when you looked at it. It was made with 1.7 million board feet of Southern Yellow Pine and I believe that metric. Flying through the structure that dense with wood towards the end of the ride was a pretty cool experience visually at least.

But in the end, Mean Streak closed at the end of 2016 to make way for something much, much, MUCH better :3c

so, after i started drawing doodle dragons to replace the images on the many wings of fire polls, a lot of artists kindly offered to help alleviate the workload by drawing all the dragons themselves

i didn't take up that offer at the time because there are a lot of wings of fire submissions, and i didn't think that when those offers were made you guys realised just how much work you would be agreeing to take on

but if the offer is still open and any of you (whether you're an artist or not) want to try drawing just a single dragon, send me an ask off-anon and i can give you one to draw (though you can change your mind at any time)

or if you want to submit a new wings of fire submission and include a drawing of your own alongside it, you can do that as well

in case you're wondering what prompted this, it's because i'm being swamped by work at university, and i'm falling behind on those drawings (some from even a long time ago still don't have doodles yet)

but also because the next poll in the queue is my own drawing of belladonna and unironically it's the shittiest one out of all of them

Silly two or so month check in on everyone's stance on the posting schedule! Like keeping up with what everyone wants esp if theres a chance of it changing WOO yeah baby

Option A: keep the posting schedule as it is. A queue system set to 3 posts a day, with the only exception being that it will be bumped to 4 if the queue becomes very full (45+ queued posts)

This gives the admin a chance to pace himself while aslo giving you guys at least 3 x reader posts daily, the con being it will take a while for your request to be posted. Even worse, you may miss your request due to the wait time + if you're using anon (wont get notified). The queue only applies to standard x reader posts. Reblogs, random non x reader hcs, and the "random thing" single hc posts do not follow the queue

Or

Option B: ditch the queue and post when something is completed. Pros is it greatly shortens the wait time for a request, what can sometimes be a week or more becomes maybe a few days. Less likely to get lost/forgotten by the requestor due to the shorter window. Cons is you may not get a post everyday; whether it be no requests in the inbox or the admin not having the motivation to write that day due to lack of energy or even burnout

As an aside, limiting posts via the queue also helped limit spamming from my blog in tags- on a productive day I can write anywhere between 5-10 posts in a single day, max I've had is 20 in a day but that was mostly due to me going bonkers with brainrot. Feel like it's worth mentioning because I do not want to swamp tags, even if it will be diluted between various fandoms-

explanations are under the cut. read as much or as little as you want bc I yapped trying to make sure I'm wording things right. I'm gonna be boosting this bc I want input 🥲

What I define as a birthday event would be something like prompts or a raffle, and only last about a week (probably the 25th to the 31st? Something like that).

The trick or treating event would be something more simple, inspired by things I've seen other blogs doing, where you can send in an emoji and a character or something, and you can either get a joke edit (trick) or a real edit (treat). It'd last the whole month, and I'd post the things as I finish em, no queueing so they don't take a billion years to post.

Both would mean my inbox is open for trick or treating the whole month, and I will also host a week-long event for my birthday. Trick or treating may close during the event, depending on what it is, but if this is the case it'd reopen on the 31st for trick or treating, and then November 1st go back to regular reqs (or close, if I'm swamped with stuff)

Merging them means I do the trick or treating and post some prompts and a raffle, or something else that'd last the whole month (or.. the 27 days that are left of it. I didn't plan sorryyy 😢😢) and that's that, as opposed to doing trick or treating the whole month and a week-long event. I am praying I worded all this right GODDD

Saw your tags on that post about swamp milkweed about having trouble getting it started--you may already know this, but milkweed seeds need light to germinate! They only need a light dusting of soil on top of them (and putting them somewhere with a lot of light helps!); if you can't see the seed through the soil, it's buried a little too deep. They basically want to be laying flat on the surface of the soil rather than poked down into it, with just enough soil on top to help them retain moisture. Yes this does make it kind of annoying to manage moisture because you don't really want them drying out either (sorry 😭) but I hope this helps!! I mention it because this is the most common issue I see with people trying to grow milkweeds from seed. They also want 4 weeks of cold stratification (cool temperatures like in a fridge while also being in contact with moist soil; you can plant your seeds, pop the whole pot in a ziplock/cover it with cling wrap, and just refrigerate it for a few weeks) so don't forget to do that!

I’m so so sorry this is going to be a really long rant but !!!! FUCK !!!! I’ve been desperate for this conversation.

We had a dinner guest very confidently say, word for word, that health is a colonial concept. Queue a chorus of tongue to the top-teeth disapproving *clicks* and the sound of my grandmother decisively putting her fork down. The questions started coming with an underlying tone of absolute distain. “What is health?” “Do you mean the healthcare system?” “Do you see an alternative here?” “Do you know why there isn’t one?” “Are you aware we fight tooth and nail for access to this so-called colonial concept and the system that facilitates it?”

Immediately this white girl is shaking in her boots (I don’t blame her, my grandma is 58, capable of lifting a car, and probably of scalping a dinner guest if the need ever arose). But it became so obviously clear over the course of her attempt to explain that what she meant is “native culture is unhealthy, health is a deviation from and erasure of native culture” which is, uhhhh, bullshit. I feel like so many people (liberal and upper class white women in particular) see a facet of colonial society that isn’t equally represented in minority communities and then interpret it as being a colonial invention as opposed to a colonial privilege. The same goes for “settled dwelling is a colonial concept” no it isn’t, lots of us did that for centuries, it just sucks now because a colonial system got dropped on top of the practice. Saying health, housing, parenting, etc are Colonial Concepts is saying outright that you cannot envision indigenous people as presently or historically capable of upholding those ideals in an equal capacity.

Progressive language does not negate the inherent infantilisation or racism of that belief. Furthermore, treating liberation from the material and social suffering of our condition as a deviation from our culture betrays the fact that you understand it exclusively from the perspective of colonial power and abuse. Thus, native culture (and african american culture) becomes, in the eyes of white liberals, synonymous with what was inflicted upon us as opposed to who we are. How dare we aspire towards health when to do so is a betrayal of our culture? Our culture being traumatisation, grief, victimhood, and above all else, a necessary social technology of both white guilt and white liberal saviourship.

I’ve been thinking about these connections a lot too. A very strong example of how consumption impacts health (I can’t believe I actually have to say that) and how these health conditions (including how these problems are managed) affect different groups in different ways are food swamps. Food swamps are areas that have little access to nutritious food, caused by factors such as cost and physical availability. In North America, native people and black people are significantly more likely to live in food swamps. These populations are less valued and seen as expendable.

It is well established that consumption of highly-processed food leads to negative health outcomes. However, the people who follow the rhetoric of positions such as “health is a colonial construct” (It’s not - health exists as a spectrum, and the delineation of healthy and unhealthy may be highly variable. This is not the same thing as non-existence) are also the ones who deny the cause and effect nature of health. This misinformation is especially harmful in places with a high population of people who are already marginalized. No one benefits from the insistence that diet does not influence disease…except for the corporations making people sick.

Food companies are not your friends. Pharmaceutical companies are not your friends. Preventative diseases line their pockets. Your wellbeing and that of others needs to come before their profit.

Two things pop in my mind about the aftermath of the pregnancy announcement:

George at some point lets it slip that they really boned just this once and suddenly he's swamped with crazy fangirls and dubious salespeople bc that man must have super stuff if it took on in an instant.

Secondly, Zac would be fuming why he hadn't thought himself about weaponizing Lando during the championship fight to potentially get Max out of commission for next season. Bc he's deluded like that and is convinced that Toto set George up to do it to bring glory back to Mercedes. (or even better, Zac DID push Lando to fuck max, they did, the announcement drops, he's happy that his plan worked but then everyone learns George is the dad, queue fuming Zac once again)

Also yeah, max only showing so far as to have plausible deniability feels right. And she would CAPITALIZE on it like, yeah I'm just very bloated lately, you know... the stress of it all, it gets to me sometimes too, I'm not that robot so many people like to portray me as (wink wink nudge nudge)
