Wyatt: Do you still hang out with Wade? Darien: Kinda. Wyatt: Kinda? Darien: Well, he’s in prison at the moment. Wyatt: What the hell for? Darien: Insurance fraud. Wyatt: For fuck’s sake… Darien: I told him it was a bad idea. Wyatt: Who else do you know who’s good with computers in an unsavoury manner? Darien: Why? Wyatt: I need to find someone’s address-.. I don’t have much to go off though. Darien: Who’re you looking for? Wyatt: It’s not important. [Darien squinted, pausing for a moment before daring to answer] Darien: What about Oscar? Wyatt: [scoffs] Funny. Darien: I don’t know anyone else. Wyatt: He’d kill me-.. he even said as much. Darien: Come on, we both know he wouldn’t. [Wyatt shook his head; it was the principle more than anything-.. although, he was pretty desperate at this point] Darien: I know his address… Wyatt: How..? Darien: I helped him figure out his self-employment taxes. Wyatt: The fuck… Darien: What? He doesn’t hate me-.. I’m a legitimate accountant these days, thank you very much. Uh, he might be less likely to commit a felony if I came with you? Wyatt: We’re not-… Zach: [breathlessly] Did I do good? Wyatt: A little too dramatic for my liking, but sure-.. here. [Zach’s eyes lit up as Wyatt shoved a hefty wad of simoleons into his outstretched palm] Wyatt: Get yourself a coat. Zach: Holy smokes-.. I could buy four coats with this much cash! Wyatt: Yeah, well.. get a decent one, it’ll last longer. Zach: Thanks, mister! [Darien blinked, almost as shocked as Zach; he wanted to ask if his eyes had deceived him, not that he had to…] Wyatt: Shut up.

Ok so I looked into it and here is how I understand Trump’s 34 felonies:
In 2016 or so Trump asked his former lawyer Mr. Cohen to pay $130,00 in hush money to Stormy Daniels, the porn star, in order to keep their previous liaison secret. The prosecution was able to prove that this money was spent specifically because of Trump’s campaign for president, and thus was an attempt to illegally influence the results of the election. This is based on the very specific laws about how much money can be spent for different reasons to different people for a campaign. The $130,000 itself is just a misdemeanor. Now, Mr. Cohen did not spend this money out of the goodness of his heart, he was expecting to be reimbursed. When this money is coming in, he has to report it on his taxes, but he can’t put it down as reimbursement because that would show it was illegal campaign hush money, so he had to report it as income, which then would then be taxed as income. So the installments that Trump paid Cohen throughout 2017 were enough to cover the $130,000 hush money to Stormy, some other hush money he paid for Trump to someone else, a little bit to keep Cohen himself quiet, AND enough to cover Cohen’s taxes. This is tax fraud, which raises the misdemeanor to be a felony.
There’s some other specific business about how in New York State they needed to prove all these things to prove the misdemeanor charge, and then to prove the felony they had to prove A, B, or C, and then the jurors didn’t have to say if they voted Trump as guilty by measure of A,B, or C. So 5 jurors could think he was guilty because of B, and 2 because of C, but it was anonymous as to what each juror was convinced he had done to deserve the felony.

Soul Surfer 11
Tumblr media
AN: last chapter of soul surfer! this is the ‘epic’ finale and i hope you all like it! just wanna say a quick thank you to those who have been so invested in this story! it means so much that people actually like this! an epilogue is coming and then those little blurbs with violet and jj!
Again: rafe is not canon in this story!!!
Violet had driven her and JJ back to her house, after spending the night on the beach. Neither wanted to go home and Violet didn’t want hear the questions from all of her friends.
She knew sooner or later she was going to have to talk to her father about what she found out but she was ultimately trying to avoid that conversation.
The two teens stepped into the house and saw Nick and Violet’s father seated at the kitchen counter.
“Violet Elliot you scared the hell out of me! Where have you been?” Her dad lectured as he pulled her in to a bone crushing hug.
“I was uh, playing Nancy Drew.” She joked. Rob looked from his daughter then to JJ, hoping for some sort of explanation. “We found out that Vivienne was using Ward Cameron to get her parental rights back. All while committing fraud.” Violet explained. “What are you talking about?” Rob asked.
Violet ran a hand through her hair as she sighed. “Mom told Ward that she was the heiress of an oil family, had loads of money and was going to make Ward a shareholder or something. So then he’d use his fancy lawyer and all his money to get her parental rights back.” She explained.
“That explains a lot. She asked me to get her a fake ID once but I said no.” Nick interjected. “See? She’s literally a psycho, dad. Can we call the police?” Violet asked. “Vi, this is serious. Odds are Ward Cameron called the police the second you told him your mother stole money from him.” Rob said.
The four were interrupted by the sound of a knock on the door. All heads turned towards the front door, everyone completely silent. “Violet, honey, I know you’re home.” Vivienne’s voice rang from the other side.
Eyes fell on Violet as she clenched her jaw. “Violet, don’t.” Nick said. She marched towards the front door and opened it and if looks could kill Vivienne would be six feet under.
“You have some nerve showing up here. After trying to take me away from my dad and make me break up with my boyfriend.” She snapped. “Violet, let me explain.” Vivienne said. “No. You don’t need to explain anything, Vivienne. I know the truth. You have been and always will be a terrible mother and you are going to jail.” Violet said.
“You have no proof. You just overheard a boy who has a crush on you.” Vivienne rebutted. “I’m sure Ward has proof. And Rafe wants my forgiveness so I’m sure I can get some.” Violet countered.
Rob walked closer to JJ and placed a hand on his shoulder. “How about you go back to your friends? Just in case this gets messy.” He said quietly. “But I-“ JJ started, not wanting to leave Violet.
“She’ll be okay, don’t worry.” Rob interrupted. JJ was hesitant at first but then nodded his head and slipped out the back door of the house.
It had been over a week since anyone had last spoken to Violet. Her and JJ’s last in person interaction had been the one at her house and no ones heard from her since. Except her and JJ frequently texted one another.
Of course there were rumors. Some say the FBI came to the house and arrested Vivienne on site. Others say Violet and her father packed up and moved again to get away from Vivienne.
But JJ didn’t believe that. He knew the truth. He was the only one who knew what was actually going on.
The Elliot’s finally went to court. The judge heard about Vivienne’s illegal attempt to get her daughter back and pushed up the court date.
Turns out Vivienne hadn’t been paying child support so she got felony charges as well as committing credit card fraud and tax fraud. Point was, she was going to the state prison for a very long time. And Rob got full and official custody of Violet.
But once that was over, Violet was free to return to her normal life with her friends.
JJ had the idea to throw a party at the Boneyard to celebrate the end of Vivienne’s reign of terror. No one knew why he had the sudden urge to party when his girlfriend was AWOL but John B thought it would help him feel better.
“I still don’t understand why we’re having a party when Violet’s basically missing.” Kiara commented as she helped carry kegs to the beach. “She’s not missing, trust me. I know where she is.” JJ replied.
“You’ve known where she’s been this entire time and you haven’t told us?” Pope questioned. “She told me not to until everything was sorted out.” JJ answered. “So that means everything is sorted out then?” Kiara asked. “Yeah. Hence the party. Don’t know if she’s going to be here but we’re going to celebrate for her.” JJ explained.
Though he knew Violet was going to be there but it was a surprise to everyone else. Mainly the Pogues.
Violet was back at home, getting herself ready for the party at the beach. “Well this is eerily familiar.” Ron commented, leaning against his daughter’s doorway.
“Except the devil incarnate isn’t here to ruin it.” Violet said. “You don’t have to worry about her anymore. So please try to live your life.” Rob told her. “I plan on it. We can go back to Sunday morning surf sessions, making banana pancakes on Saturday’s. All of our traditions. Especially now that Nick’s here.” Violet said.
Rob smiled at his daughter before placing a kiss on her forehead. “I’m proud of you, Vi. You haven’t had it easy and yet you still have that shocking amount of optimism.” He said. “I get it from you.” She said.
“Now go have fun, kiddo.” He told her. Violet smiled up at her father before exiting her bedroom and walking out of the house.
The party at the Boneyard was in full swing. People JJ didn’t even know were there but all he cared about was searching for Violet. “Who could you possibly be looking for?” John B asked his best friend.
“Uh, just making sure Rafe and those Kooks don’t show up.” JJ lied. John B bought it in enough time to turn around when JJ spotted Violet. Though they were at a party, he wanted her all to himself.
He slipped away from the group and made his way towards the brunette girl. The second he reached her, JJ wrapped his arms tightly around his girlfriend. Afraid that if he let she’d slip through his fingers again.
“I missed you so much.” He said quietly. “I missed you too. Two weeks on the mainland was two weeks too long.” Violet said. “I love you, you know that?” JJ asked. “Yes. And I love you too.” She replied.
Before she could mention the party, his lips were on hers in an instant. They both were touch starved and physical tough was definitely Violet’s love language and not being able to do that for so long, made her feel terrible.
“Violet? Is that you?” Pope’s voice interrupted the two. “Remind me to kill Pope.” JJ said. Violet laughed at her blonde boyfriend before she was basically tackled by her friends. “Where the hell have you been? Do you know miserable Sarah and I were without you?” Kiara asked.
“It’s a long story and I’ll explain later but now, we’re at a party so let’s just have fun.” Violet answered.
And did her friends deliver. It had been a while since they were just able to have fun together without any drama getting in the way.
Violet was having the best time and she didn’t think anything could ruin it. That was until she spotted Rafe walking on to the scene.
She still hadn’t had the courage to speak to him. And she didn’t even do anything wrong, it was all his doing. Yet there was no attempt from him to make things right between the two of them.
JJ followed his girlfriend’s gaze and spotted the Kook he hated across the beach. “I’ll be right back.” He announced. “JJ,” Violet started. “I’m just gonna talk to him. No fighting, I promise.” JJ said.
The girl gave him a skeptical look but let him go anyways.
“What are you doing here, Cameron?” JJ asked. “I wanted to apologize. I’ve been a dick and I’m not proud of my behavior. I’ve been clean for a while. I realized the coke made me act all crazy. That and wanting to please my dad. So I’m sorry.” Rafe answered.
“I don’t think I’m the one you need to apologize too. Violet defended you. A lot. Even when your own sister didn’t. And you screwed her over. If anyone deserves this apology, it’s her.” JJ replied. “She won’t talk to me.” Rafe rebutted. “I can’t believe I’m saying this but I will go get her for you. Just, don’t screw anything up.” The Pogue said.
Rafe gave him a grateful look before he went to go get Violet.
“Vi, come with me.” JJ instructed her. “Where are we going?” She asked. “Someone needs to talk to you.” He answered. “No, JJ, I don’t want to talk to him. He’s an ass.” Violet countered. “He’s trying to say he’s sorry for being an ass. I can’t believe I’m trying to convince someone that Rafe Cameron isn’t a dick.” JJ told her.
Violet looked from her boyfriend to Rafe before groaning. “Fine.” She said. “Five minutes. That’s all you get, Cameron.” JJ added before walking away.
“What did you want to say?” Violet asked. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I wanted my dad’s approval so much that I didn’t think about how much it would hurt you. If I’m being honest, I liked you. I liked you a lot and I saw my chance to get you and I took it. I was selfish thinking that money was more important than that. I’ve been clean since that night. And I know I don’t deserve to even be your friend but if you’d let me, I’d like to try.” Rafe explained.
Violet was quiet for a moment, feeling a sense of deja vu as Rafe stood in front of her.
“How many times have we been here, Rafe? I’d say this is your third attempt at an apology. And you hurt me and the people I love the first two times. How can I trust you’re not going to do it again?” She questioned.
“This time, I promise you, I won’t mess it up. Not again.” He said. Again, she went quiet. “Okay. I forgive you, Rafe. Please don’t make me regret it.” Violet finally said.
Violet could see Rafe’s shoulder fall in relief at her words.
“Okay, your five minutes is up. Violet, let’s go.” JJ interrupted. “Can Rafe join us? He also needs to apologize to everyone else.” She asked her boyfriend.
JJ was hesitant for a moment. But if Rafe didn’t even try to pick a fight with him, why shouldn’t he give him a chance?
He nodded his head before turning to Rafe. “You try to take her from me and I will kill you.” He threatened. “I just want to be friends. That’s it.” Rafe said.
The Pogues were skeptical at first. Forgiving Rafe and being ‘friends’ with him didn’t seem like something they could do. Sarah was on board with it. She had noticed a change in her older brother after what went down with him and Violet. Violet was making him a better person and for that Sarah was grateful.
It was going to take multiple trial runs for Rafe to be redeemed in the rest of their eyes. But they figured an apology was a good start.
The party was well over and JJ and Violet were laying on her balcony, staring up at the stars.
Violet was pointing out the different constellations she knew, thinking that JJ was actually listening to her. But he was caught up in his own world as he looked at her.
“What are you staring at?” Violet laughed. “You. How beautiful you are and I don’t know how the hell you agreed to be with me.” He answered.
“Do you wanna know why?” She asked. JJ furrowed his eyebrows but nodded. He wasn’t expecting her to actually tell him. “Because you feel like home. I feel safe and content when I’m with you. Like nothing bad can happen to me when I’m with you.” Violet said.
JJ couldn’t really find the words to reply to her so he leaned forward and kissed her gently. They had a lot of time to make up for but were stopped by the sound of Violet’s dad’s voice.
“Dad entering the room, please stop whatever you’re doing.” Rob announced. JJ closed his eyes momentarily, at the second time him and Violet were interrupted.
“What’s up dad?” Violet asked, sitting up. “I’ve been doing some thinking. Since JJ spends almost every night here anyways, I redid the guest room for him.” Rob started.
Violet and JJ exchanged a look, neither aware to the fact Rob knew JJ had been sneaking into Violet’s room.
“I don’t know why you can’t stay at home or why you sneak in at ungodly hours and you don’t have to tell me but now, JJ, you’ll always have a place here. And you can stop sleeping in my daughter’s room.” He finished.
“Now no funny business. I’m too young to be a grandfather.” He joked before leaving the room.
The couple looked at each before Violet let out a small chuckle. “Looks like you don’t need to stay at John B’s anymore.” She said. “I can’t believe your dad actually offered me the guest room.” JJ said.
“He has a feeling something is going on at home but he doesn’t want to push or pry. You’ll tell him when you feel like you need to. He just wants you to have a safe place.” Violet said.
“Your dad likes me that much?” JJ laughed. “Yes, believe it or not he does.” The girl next to him replied. “Well thank god I treat his daughter so well.” JJ teased.
JJ felt at ease in that moment. Understanding what Violet said about feeling safe with the other person. Feeling as if nothing can touch him as long as he was with her. He was at peace with himself.
Being with her as she quickly pointed out more stars and constellations and telling what planet was where. It was a perfect moment for him.
A perfect moment for the boy who hasn’t had an ounce of peace in years.

This is very serious.
I was scammed through Reddit of all places, trying to get help just to stay safe a month, and now I owe 2500 or else I can possibly go to jail. This is not a joke either. And I'm absolutely terrified. I've been having constant panic attacks since I found out. I didn't know it was a scam, I fell for it, I can't take the money back because it paid for rent. I know I'm stupid for falling for it, but I needed to keep this house. But now it's a worse hole than it's ever been, and I'm being threatened with a possible felony since it's considered fraud and theft, apparently. I didn't mean for this. The guy tricked me hard. I literally don't know what else to do but beg here. I'm terrified, I need help, I'll do anything. Absolutely anything to save myself from this. I feel like an idiot. Please help me.
I have evidence for everything and I plan to look into a lawyer or so but honestly I know that since I ended up with the money, I have to pay it back. I don't want to end up in a legal hole, I'm so fucking scared. Like I don't want to beg for help anymore but I need help to pay for this, it's a horrible double edged sword to ask for monetary help when I was just fucked over but please, you guys have helped me before, and now I'm stuck big time, and I'm doing everything I can to keep myself afloat and out of trouble. My PayPal is paypal.me/zwhack if you want to help me, my venmo is this link, I can pay you back when I'm able, I don't mind, I just need help with this now, I'm scared. I'm genuinely beyond scared shitless. I feel like I just fucked up my entire life, just trying to do the right thing and thinking someone could be so genuine and kind. I'm trying to put trust into you all here once more, because no one has steered me wrong here. I tried to use reddit like people told me and this is where it got me. I'm never asking for anything ever again after this, I don't care if I'm struggling or starving. This was too much, I'm in deep, and I'm scared half to death.
I don't want to suffer for my entire life just because I fell for something so stupid because I wanted to keep my family safe. I want to be able to enjoy my life, and this would destroy everything I've ever wanted to do. All because I was gullible and naive. I can't forgive myself. If I'm able, I was going to use all 1200ish of my tax return to fix part of it. Which means I can't go visit my homestate and see my sister for her 21st birthday. All because I fucked up. Which hurts the most. Ive been heartbroken over the thought, I havent seen my family in years and I had to go on the phone and tell them everything and tell them I cant see them this year even though I've been planning FOR a year and, fuck. All I can do is ask for help, please. Help me fix my mess, help me erase this issue and pretend I never did something so dumb, help me move on from it, please.

Chapter 18
Lucifer was still dizzy, but now he could manage being awake for a few hours at a time. He wasn't a fan of this whole "needing rest" business and honestly he didn't know how Belphie didn't go insane. He stared out the window as the van rumbled along the seemingly endless stretch of road.
36 hours to go.
0MC drives like an absolute maniac, it turns out. They drove down the yellow line in the center of the road, didn't even bother to look at speed limits, and straight up cut through people's lawns at times. Everyone had had enough when they took a sharp turn at nearly 80 mph while yelling at the top of their lungs.
Satan drove after that.
"Yeah I should never drive." They admitted as they sat down between Asmo and Acacia. "It's like I'm a different person behind the wheel and all I know is "fuck the system, I wanna hit a stop sign." Acacia giggled and there was a muffled "Hell Yeah!" from Mammon.
Satan did ok until he hit the highway, that's when he revealed he'd never actually driven before.
"What? Why'd you take the wheel then?"
"Because anything is better than your suicidal thrill seeking." He reasoned
"Well can anyone else drive?" There were murmer's of no's around the car and MC rubbed their temples in irritation.
"I know how," Lucifer said bitterly.
"Yeah but you're not fit right now" Asmo responded as gently as he could.
"Yes" he had to agree as just looking out the window was giving him a headache.
In the end MC had to verbally walk Satan through highway etiquette and safety. They were a much better backseat driver than a driver.
0The car had been silent for a while, almost painfully so. There was only one thing to really occupy their minds and that was the events of the last few weeks. It wasn't a fun silence.
Acacia was the one who came up with the idea. Her eyes caught a light blue PT cruiser parked at a kwik fill as they drove past. Punching MC as hard as she could in the arm she yelled
"Cruiser bruiser, blue! No punch backs." MC winced from the sudden assault before they too noticed the car.
"Oh it's gonna be like that is it?" They smirked and then the game was on.
Woody wack's for station wagons; punch bugs for buggies; Rams, Dodges, juice, no car was safe from an excuse to have a fist fight. The brothers caught on to the game quickly and soon there were raucous shouts of car models and fists flying between the rows of seats.
Mammon would just make up cars even though he didn't see them. Asmo would hit the hardest but complain the most when he got hit. Levi would continuously moan "I'm not playingggg" when someone tried to hit him. Satan claimed to have drivers immunity but still would hit others. Belphie completely ignored the "no punch backs" rule, and poor Beel never actually figured out how the game worked so he just got pummeled.
Then Beel figured it out.
"Hah! Punch-bug yellow!" he called gleefully as he punched Lucifer right in the arm.
The car went silent as Lucifer gave Beel a look as if he'd actually murder him. Then, without changing expression, he jabbed Beel so hard in the back of the neck that the poor guy folded in half.
"You didn't say 'no punch backs'" he grumbled, turning to resume his glaring out the window.
0"Oh come on!" Levi shouted from his spot in the passenger seat. "You just need to make it to that smudge" he urged.
But the raindrop on the windshield didn't budge.
"Give it up" Satan said darkly. "Your puny drop was a lost cause from the time mine got that speed boost from merging with MCs" he laughed an over-the-top maniacal laugh.
"That's not fair, you can't team up!"
"Friendship is magic, Levi." MC called nonchalauntly from the seat behind them. "Get with the times."
Levi muttered something under his breath.
"What was that, loser?" Satan mocked.
"I said rematch " Levi spoke very seriously.
"You're on. I call that one!"
"I call-- ah man!" Levi slumped in his seat. "Fine, that one then."
The race was on. Satan's drop held a steady lead down the majority of the windshield. Hardly wobbling as it streamed steadily down even the driest parts of the window. Levi seemed to be at a huge disadvantage as his drop moved a few centimeters at a time before stopping and faltering. The tension rose as Satan's drop started to lose momentum near the end. Levi's started to pick up speed, a few drops boosting it along the way.
It was neck and neck, such a bad start but it looked like Levi's was gonna pull a comeback!
MC was on the edge of their seat as the battle of ages waged before their very eyes. Satan's drop stopped! Just before the finish it halted entirely! Now all Levi's drop had to do was make it to the finish. It was so close they could almost taste it!
Suddenly a rogue windshield wiper swept through the battlefield, taking both drops to their fate and leaving dry clean windshield in its wake.
"Guess we'll never know" Satan shrugged as he flicked the windshield wipers off again.
"GODDAMNIT SATAN!!!" Levi practically screeched, but Satan just laughed at his anger.
0"Come on Beel, this is your 4th bathroom break already!" Levi called from the van. Beel came back and hopped in, climbing over Asmo and MC to get to his assigned seat in the back.
"Sorry! Human bodies don't hold food and drink like demons." He blushed.
"TMI Beel" Satan wrinkled his nose as he stepped on the gas. "Why aren't we moving?"
"You have to put it in gear" MC said patiently.
"Right, I knew that." Satan blushed as he put the car I'm gear and backed out of the gas station parking lot.
Skreeeeech!
Everyone in the car winced at the sound. Putting it back into park, Satan instructed Asmo to hop out and see what happened.
"Good news!" He yelled. "We're ok! It's just the other car that's damaged." He hopped back in.
"Great" Satan sighed as he continued driving away.
"Wah! Awahawa! Guys! That's a hit and run!" Acacia shook MC as she spoke.
"So?" Satan peered at her through the rearview mirror.
"So? So that's illegal!"
"So's driving without a license." He countered.
"And living in the United States without a birth certificate or visa." MC deadpanned.
"Oh shit!" She realized "you guys are illegal aliens!" The car was silent for a minute. "Well now I just feel stupid"
"You're not stupid Acacia," Beel put a large hand on her shoulder from the back seat.
"Thanks Beel."
"Either way it's best we avoid any human authorities." Satan confirmed, there were nods and soft murmer's of agreement around the car.
"Heh heh"
"What now?" Levi snapped.
"Heh... we're criminals." She elbowed MC.
"Oh yeah we're bad, don't fuck with us." They agreed sarcastically. "We live outside the normal order."
"Yeah I ripped a tag off a mattress once." She laughed.
"I pirate all my music." MC countered.
"I'm going 5 mph above the speed limit right now." Satan added.
"I commit felony tax fraud!" Mammon yelled from the trunk.
The car went silent at that.
"What?"
0When they stopped to rest for the night there were 26 hours left to go.

Theft & Fraud Crimes Overview
The consequences in Arizona for fraud and theft crimes can be devastatingly severe. The outcomes can include fines in the thousands of dollars, civil penalties, and lengthy incarceration. Being informed on the classifications with Arizona's laws will better help you if you, or someone you know, is faced with a fraud or theft crime.
With the Law Office of Michael Alarid III, we will help guide you to understand the importance of this knowledge to maximize the best possible defense for your case. You will need to make critical decisions through the entire process of the criminal justice system to protect your rights. Below you will learn about the classifications of theft and fraud crimes and how they are broken down in Arizona, along with the defenses.
Arizona's Theft Crimes Breakdown
The charges for theft crime is not a simple charge that includes every situation. There are different ranges in the theft crimes, and they all have different punishments. If you have been convicted of a crime in the past, your case could cause a harsher penalty.
A misdemeanor is a charge for anyone who has stolen services or property under $1000.
Description of a Theft Crime
Theft is a crime that involves taking, using, or keeping another individual's property without authority. The Arizona courts may base the punishments on the total value of the items that were stolen.
For example, anything ranging from $1,000-$2,000 is a Class 6 felony that can lead up to two years in prison, while the laws consider anything less than $1,000 to be a misdemeanor. Let's inspect the differences between a felony theft and a misdemeanor theft charge. ARS 13-1802
Misdemeanor Theft Crime
Arizona statutes consider a misdemeanor a Class 1 crime. A misdemeanor is a charge for anyone who has stolen services or property under $1000. In most cases, the statute of limitations, or length of time, for law enforcement to bring charges for a misdemeanor theft charge can be charged up to one year after the crime was engaged.
The penalties or results of first-time offenders can be fined up to $2,500, up to six months in jail, repayment of stolen items, and classes and probation up to three years.
The felony charge is for individuals who have stolen properties greater than $1,000. However, the classes and penalties are separated based on property value.
Felony Theft Crime
A theft crime deemed as a felony is classified from a Class 2 crime to a Class 6 crime. The felony charge is for individuals who have stolen properties greater than $1,000. However, the classes and penalties are separated based on property value.
A Class 2 felony crime from $25,000 and above can result in up to 12 ½ years in prison and possible probation.
A Class 3 felony crime from $4,000 to $25,000 can result in up to eight and a half years in prison and possible probation.
A Class 4 felony crime from $3,000-$4,000 can result in up to four years in prison possible probation.
A Class 5 felony crime from $2,000 and $3,000 can result in up to 2 ½ years in prison and possible probation.
A Class 6 felony crime from $1000-$2000 can result in up to two years in prison and possible probation.
If the conviction is valued at over $100,000 and is considered a Class 2 felony crime, the individual charge is not eligible for any probation and will serve a sentence of up to 12 ½ years.
Additional Consequences
While some individuals may have their charges considered underclass crimes, there are additional consequences that are categorized under collateral offenses.
Some collateral consequences can include the following: reporting to professional licenses, labeled as a CIMT (crimes involving moral turpitude), be required to submit an extensive background check, suspension of fingerprint cards, having to report lenders and housing loans of the crime committed.

The prosecution ranges based on the value of the property stolen and if there were damages committed in the process of a crime. If the prosecution takes the shoplifting crime to a civil matter, the penalties could include compensation to the business owner for damages, the retail value of the merchandise compensated, and extensive fines.

Understanding White Collar Crimes
Tumblr media
When you hear crime, you oftentimes think of a crime scene and a victim, however not all crime is violent. When corporate execs commit schemes to benefit financially or to charm older Americans out of their retirement money, they are guilty of a white-collar crime. White-collar crimes can include intellectual property theft, insider trading, credit card fraud, counterfeiting, RICO crimes, computer crimes, insurance fraud, healthcare fraud, tax evasion, bribery, and other violations. At Hasson Law Group LLP, our criminal defense lawyers can represent those facing these types of charges. We are well-versed in all types of white-collar crimes.
Embezzlement
Embezzlement occurs when someone was given responsibility by someone else or an employer to handle money or property and misuses their authority and steals funds. This can happen when someone finds a way to funnel finances into their own bank account. Another is when a politician uses their campaign capital for their own personal expenses. Both of these can lead to white-collar crime charges that require the expertise of a criminal defense lawyer.
Corporate Fraud
The FBI is responsible for investigating white-collar crimes including corporate fraud. They look for insider trading schemes that are designed to conceal corporate activities or falsification of financial information. It may also deter regulating organizations such as Securities and Exchange Commission from handling their queries thoroughly too.
Extortion
Extortion occurs when someone pressures someone or a business to giving up their money, services or property. This can occur when a gang or the mob forces businesses to pay protection fees. Another example is when a blackmail sufferer pays money to an individual to keep from their reputation being damaged or to prevent someone from divulging information.
Ponzi Scheme
Ponzi schemes are named after Charles Ponzi, a con man who earned $250,000 a day with a mail coupon scheme he created in the 1920s. A Ponzi scheme is an investment scam that guarantee someone gets a lot of money or reward with little to no risk. The focus is to attract new investors to pay for older ones. The system eventually will collapse after the new customers stop and the investments just dry up. This is illegal and can result in a white-collar crimes charge.
Bankruptcy Fraud
A person suffering from extreme debt can file for bankruptcy and can be relieved of their financial problems. However, that is at the cost of creditors as they only get a share of what they were owed. When a filer intentionally conceals their property by filling out bankruptcy paperwork dishonestly, they are committing bankruptcy fraud.
Penalties for White Collar Crimes
The penalties for white-collar crimes range from misdemeanor to felony charges. The charges are more serious when the amount of money involved in the crime increases. Misdemeanor charges can involve up to a year in jail and $1,000 in fines while first-degree felony charges can lead to years in prison and fines as much as $30,000.

The Truth About DACA
The decision to end DACA is a deserved end to a magnet for illegal immigration based on an unconstitutional executive order by Obama desperate for the minority vote. The Dreamer Act was completely rejected by Congress, it was never passable to begin with, it’s illegal as those who it claims to protect, though Obama took it upon himself to pass it by executive order soon after he said that he had no authority. Where were the calls for Obama’s impeachment?
So firstly, President Trump is simply undoing an illegal action and reestablishing the rule of law. We are a nation of immigrants yes, but not illegal immigrants, and we are also a nation of upholding common and ordinary law which is found in every other nation on earth. People were brought to this country illegally because we failed to enforce these basic immigration laws, these people aren’t refugees, they aren’t asylum seekers and they aren’t children, all we are doing is trying to enforce our immigration laws which have always been there.
As a sovereign nation, just as every other, we have the right to decide who comes to the U.S and we are already the most generous and welcoming. Even if we tripled our current legal immigration quotas, there would still be people who would enter or remain in the U.S illegally. Enforcing our immigration laws encourages people to come here legally, something we all support, and discourages illegal immigration, something we shouldn’t support.
To hear the media tell it, all 800,000 illegals being kept here by DACA are fantastic role models, they are the next Albert Einstein or someone on the verge of curing cancer and we Americans should be throwing ourselves at their knees in gratitude for them coming to stay with us. If your only understanding of this issue comes from the MSM, of course you are outraged over the fact that Trump is about to order an army to kick in daycare center doors, snatch up all the brown kids and hurl toddlers back over the southern border.
In reality, DACA is a shabby little temporary amnesty program created illegally for illegals. Let’s set the record straight to begin with. We aren’t talking about children here, the average age of Dreamers is 25 and many are as old as 35. They aren’t highly educated either. In August 2013, only 7.5 percent of the DACA illegals who were 18 or older had four-year college degrees. In August 2017, it dropped to only 5 percent. A significant share never event went beyond high school. The idea spread by the pro-illegal alien groups and the news media is that the DACA recipients are mostly inspiring, bright college kids, is a lie.
There’s also a little myth going around that 100 percent of DACA illegals have never broken the law. The truth is, over two thousand of them have lost their amnesty benefits due to crime and gang violence, and just as they have become less educated year by year, rates of DACA participant crime and violence have rapidly accelerated every year since 2012. Bear in mind that the bar is very low for acceptance into the DACA program, explicitly allowing people with multiple offenses and certain felony convictions to be approved. Only a handful of the applicants were ever interviewed, and rarely was their information on application ever verified.
Dreamers have long-since terminated their studies and most have committed multiple felonies in order to get jobs - Social Security fraud, forgery, perjury on I-9 forms, falsification of green cards and drivers’ licenses, identity theft, etc. DACA guidelines give illegals committing multiple felonies and significant misdemeanors a total pass as long as they have not been convicted of their criminal activity. This means that Dreamer gang-bangers, Dreamer identity thieves, Dreamer sexual predators, Dreamers who haven’t paid income taxes, and Dreamers committing a wide range of other crimes all qualify for DACA status as long as they haven’t been convicted of their crimes.
Sure, convicted murderers aren’t allowed entry into DACA, though if you have gun violations, you’ve beat your wife and skinned a cat a couple of times, you’re in, as long as it’s only two cats as successful entrants can have up to three misdemeanors regardless of severity, which is why virtually all applicants are accepted. So let’s do the math on how easy it is for anyone, no matter how little merit, to get into the DACA program that’s now being lauded by the media as “the best illegal immigration has to offer.”
According to official data from the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services, DACA has a rejection rate of just six percent, which means 94 percent of all applicants, no matter how gamy their paperwork, no matter what their misdemeanors or other “acceptable” criminal activity is, and no matter how low-achieving or uneducated, all while being illegally here in the first place, have been gifted residency ahead of all legitimate immigrants who have waited in line, proven themselves to be highly qualified and educated, have proven their identity and have followed the law. One set of laws for them, one set for everyone else. This is the warped sense of equality which fails the left.
If your parents break into a stranger’s house and they tell you that this is your home now, it’s your right to live there and the police eventually come to kick you out, is it the homeowner’s fault when you are told to leave, or is it the fault of your parents for illegally entering the house in the first place and convincing you that it’s yours to stay in? The simple fact is, these adults are here illegally, and we can downplay it, lie about it and sugarcoat it all we want, the fact remains that they are here illegally, they are actively cheating the system and cheating both Americans and legal immigrants.
As I’ve said before, illegal immigrants don’t do the work Americans don’t want to do, they do the work Americans won’t do for that price. When you flood the country with illegal workers by design and suppress wages to a point where only those willing to be exploited are willing to work for peanuts, unemployment becomes a big issue. The moment businesses are forced to raise wages without illegal workers, people will flock to these jobs and employment rates soar. This does not necessarily apply to all DACA illegals, though the principle remains, illegal workers are cheating Americans and legal immigrants job opportunities, especially with hiring quotas skewing the selection process.
It’s important to remember this decision on DACA does not mean these illegals now face the risk of deportation. Trump has no plans to throw anyone out tomorrow, this is about legalizing the illegal and he has given Congress six months to fix Obama’s unconstitutional mistake. If we’re going to keep illegals here, at least the policy keeping them here should be legal. DACA is an illegally created work permit program that offers those who came here illegally to take jobs that would otherwise go to Americans citizens. Trump’s “Buy American, Hire American” policies are extremely popular and with good reason, American views on putting its citizens first are no different to anyone else, though we along with other Western countries are the only ones told to be ashamed of it. Simply wanting to put fellow citizens first and follow standard immigration law is today considered Nazism.
The outrage over DACA has only started, and in the coming days we are guaranteed to be inundated with claims Trump is going to tear eight year olds from their mothers’ arm and the economy is about to collapse. My advice in the upcoming cacophony of cries and shrieks: don’t lose sight of the truth.

How To Rig the 2018 Elections: A Guide for Concerned Conservatives Looking to Maintain Their Steel Grip On Power
Step 1: Create a dedicated panel meant to investigate cases of voter fraud and illegal voting. Make sure it’s not bipartisan because that just obstructs progress!
Step 2: Come to the conclusion that there is an epidemic of illegal voting, mainly, it should be illegal to not vote R, but it’s not quite yet.
Step 3: Begin purging illegally registered voters. You can tell someone is illegally registered because their name and birthday appears twice! Just purge those sneaky doubles from the roll, disregarding that the system doesn’t see any other identifying information and black communities have the least diversity in surnames, it’s a small price to pay to ensure safe election outcomes really.
Step 4: Make voter id laws mandatory in every state. Make cutbacks to funding places where one can get a state id, nobody likes the DMV anyway! Who cares! Anytime someone calls it a poll tax just keep yelling fake news until they give up, that means you won.
Step 5: Expand the definition of what crimes constitute a felony sentence. You can then legally just take their voting rights away forever and no one will stop you! They deserved it anyway, no one wants criminals deciding how to run the country, can you even imagine?
Step 6: Exploit the left’s need for absolute moral purity in their candidates. Demoralize them to the point that they either don’t show up or vote for a lost cause third party as a show of ‘protesting the system’.
Step 7: When all else fails, just gerrymander! Those unwashed hippies can vote all they want and it won’t mean a damn thing when the districts were drawn to decide the winner decades ago!
Congratulations, you now have a completely unbalanced congress, a matching white house, and with any luck by then a nice supreme court roster to round out the process! You can pass tax cuts for whatever billionaires you want and take away protections for workers and the sick and poor and nobody can ~obstruct~ now!

Identity Theft and Social Media: How Are They Related?
Social media: two words that have become synonymous with how we connect ourselves to our fellow humans in the 21st century.
Relationships can be formed and broken all inside a virtual world. We post pictures of our children, food, likes and dislikes for the world to see. While this technical revolution of the past decade can be viewed as exciting and innovative, it also leaves us vulnerable, particularly to identity theft.
What Is Identity Theft?
According to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), identity theft “occurs when someone appropriates another’s personal information without their knowledge to commit theft or fraud.”
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported that debt collection, identity theft and impostor scams were the most common categories of consumer complaints received by the agency’s Consumer Sentinel Network in 2015. Identity theft complaints were the second most reported, increasing more than 47 percent from 2014, in part due to tax identity theft. Per the FTC, impostor scams — in which criminals impersonate someone else to commit fraud — remained the third most common complaint in 2015.
A Tale as Old as Time
Identity theft is not new. It is a tale as old as time, from biblical stories of one brother posing as another to receive their dying father’s inheritance to fraudsters who pose as someone else to gain trust and disclose personally identifiable information.
In the fall of 1998, Congress passed the Identity Theft and Assumption Deterrence Act. This legislation created a new offense for identity theft, which prohibits “transfers or uses, without lawful authority, [of] a means of identification of another person with the intent to commit, or to aid or abet, any unlawful activity that constitutes a violation of federal law or that constitutes a felony under any applicable state or local law.”
The Identity Theft Resource Center, a San Diego-based nonprofit organization founded to provide victim assistance and consumer education, reported that the use of some social media sites can leave you vulnerable to identity theft if not used properly.
What Is Social Media?
Social media sites function on the personal information users provide. This can expose the consumer to fraud and abuse. If your mobile banking app is on your phone, for instance, cybercriminals can access your online banking information through an app that is unrelated to your online banking.
What you post online for friends, family and the internet to see can also leave you vulnerable. For instance, when you post that you are going on vacation, you alert potential burglars that you are away.
Accepting “connections” or “friendships” with people you are not somehow familiar with in your everyday life can put you at risk. Cybercriminals can guess your passwords simply by the items you post online, such as your pets’ names, children’s names or details regarding your former schools or current city.
A Playground for Cybercriminals
The unregulated nature of social media platforms provides cybercriminals and fraudsters a veritable playground of criminal activity to choose from.
If you accept an invitation from unfamiliar people and they send you an email with a link in the text, this may be an attempt to place malicious malware on your computer. This would allow attackers to extract your personal information, particularly online banking information.
Not only can fraudsters take over bank accounts via online messaging, but consumers should be wary of impostors creating fake accounts in their name and posting messages under their ID. Celebrities are especially vulnerable to this trend.
Back in 2011, for example, former governor of Alaska Sarah Palin’s official Twitter account was breached and exposed to fraud. In one incident, a fraudster tweeted an open invite to Palin’s family home for a barbecue. Palin’s security staff had to be dispatched to her Alaska residence. Many public figures have fallen victim to this method of identity theft.
Protect Your Identity
Below are some tips to protect your identity in the age of social media:
Create strong, multicharacter passwords for your email and all apps on your phone, and remember to change them often.
When utilizing apps, enter as little personal information as possible.
Be cautious about what you post online. Never use personal information such as your Social Security number, current address or telephone number.
Make sure your privacy settings are set to the highest level. Check these settings often since they may be affected by upgrades.
Avoid downloading free applications for use on your social media profiles.
Avoid accepting connections or friendships with people you are not familiar with.
Verify any link sent to you was sent from your connection or friend.
Google your own name, as well as any social media handles you utilize, to track any possible forged accounts.

Trump, 2a, and other small rants
Full disclosure, guys: I’m a gun owner. I currently own 4 long guns, with two more in the process of being acquired from the wife of a deceased relative.
I like being able to shoot. I do so as a hobby. Most days it’s just in the woods. A friend and I fill some gallon jugs with water and food coloring, and grab a couple empty cans of house paint, and go out on my great-uncle’s 40 acres. He has a straight ~90 yard path that we can do some mild distance shooting as well. Those jugs make a nice poof when you hit them. It’s like an explosive target without the explosives.
I tell you this because I want to provide some context when I talk about not wanting more gun control in the US. It is a fun hobby and an excellent vent for safe owners.
Safe, legal gun ownership is hard. It involves massive safes, trigger locks, combination locks, a multitude of keys, and hard cases. It involves solvents capable of dissolving lead and brushes strong enough to clean brittle steel yet delicate enough to not damage its engravings. It’s time consuming and money intensive.
So when I’m putting in all that work to be safe- for every 5 hours of shooting it’s about 2-3 hours of cleaning and manipulation of safe for storage- and someone tells me, at the end of all that, that he wants to take away my ability to pursue this hobby?
How about fuck that.
It’s tradition for me to say “both sides are wrong” and I see no reason to break from tradition here. Let’s talk about each side.
The left wants to either restrict guns, restrict features, or price ammo and firearms out of reach of the typical person.
The first is just unrealistic on a cultural level. Cars kill more people than guns every year. The ability to own one of those things is in the Constitution.
On the second point, it’s weird to gun owners that there are “assault features” that our friends consider scary. My 10-22 is a simple semi-automatic .22 rifle. I got mine with a wood stock and traditional rifle silhouette. Many states do not restrict these at all, though I know that in New Jersey I’d need to leave my 25 round magazine back in MI (more on that later). But take the 10/22 and put on a black polymer stock with a pistol grip and suddenly it’s an “assault weapon” per Massachusetts and some politicians. And those 25 round mags? A practiced shooter can reload in under a second. You figure 2-3 shoots per second for a lot of shooters, and having to reload saved ~2.5 seconds for 25 rounds. It’s not significant.
Pricing ammo out of reach defeats the purpose of the 2a, which is to allow individuals to defend against tyranny. As the wealthy have more disposable income with which to buy firearms, this pricing scheme simply means that only the wealthiest people will have guns. That seems entirely unfair.
Mrs. Clinton ran on a campaign of holding firearm manufacturers liable for gun violence, a position which even Sen. Sanders said was off. An auto manufacturer is only held liable for a vehicle fatality when it’s proven that there was some flaw in the design that the manufacturer knew of or could reasonably have known of. Mrs. Clinton’s position implies that guns are inherently faulty simply by nature of their existence.
Now let’s talk about Republicans’ plans to put a gun in every person’s hands, often without restriction. That seems pretty silly to me, as well. There are people legitimately unfit to own firearms. I’m a user of the r/guns subreddit and every day I’ll look at a post and think “you probably should not own a gun.” Further, the insistence that more guns = less crime is objectively false, as proven by comparison to nations with more restrictions.
So what’s the solution to that mess? I think it’s stronger enforcement plus a rearrangement of the law to allow for more efficient enforcement. Suppressors are covered by the National Firearms Act, and require a $200 fee, plus a lengthy application process, to purchase. The current wait on an application’s processing is eight months. That tells me that the department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) does not have the resources it needs to comply with existing law. Give them those resources. Further, reduce restrictions on suppressors. Contrary to a rather crass claim by Mrs. Clinton, a suppressor (she used the term silencer) does not completely muffle the sound of a gunshot. It lowers the report by a few decibels. A jet engine is as loud as a gunshot. Picture the difference between standing five feet from a jet and standing thirty feet away. That’s roughly the difference between a suppressed firearm and a standard one. Those shots still echo; they can still be heard from a great distance. Eliminate restrictions on them, and allow the ATF to use its freed-up resources to investigate cases of fraud and illegal firearm sales.
The list of things that can disqualify you from buying a gun is pretty extensive, and includes: any involuntary mental health hold in your life; felony conviction of any type; any domestic abuse conviction whatsoever; being deemed mentally unfit by a mental care professional; using illegal drugs (marijuana is still illegal at the federal level and the background checks are done at the federal level); a restraining order being filed against you if the judge determines that it is in the best interests of the victim for you to be barred from owning a firearm; and attempting to buy a firearm for anyone prohibited for any of these reasons (a straw purchase). That list is inclusive of everyone that I would prefer not own a firearm.
___
I don’t get the NRA. Every time a major shooting happens, they have to get into the mix and make an ad that shines a highly negative light on gun owners and gun ownership. They don’t even support gun owners’ interests, but rather, the interests of gun manufacturers. Most recently, they offered to trade banning of bump-fire stocks for more protections for manufacturers. This organization is ridiculous, and I consistently refuse to buy any product which will give a portion of that money to the NRA.
___
Is the GOP’s current platform simply “Take whatever a reasonable person would do, then do the opposite?!” They’re cutting taxes while increasing spending. They’re eliminating access to healthcare. They’re still increasing the size of the goddamn military even while one of the wars we started is about to end. They keep trying to break net neutrality. The EPA’s authority is getting weakened, and federal land is being sold off. They’re trying to pull us out of the UN, isolating us from the world in an age of globalism and friendship among nations. With Nikki Haley’s most recent comments to the UN, it seems this administration is trying to start a war with Russia, the nation that put them in power! And the president wants to strengthen libel laws to squelch any speech that dares criticize him.
Then there’s NAFTA. That agreement has been disastrous for Mexico. It allowed us to dump our subsidized corn on them, while our auto manufacturers filled the country with low-paying, no-skill jobs that Americans would never do for any wage. It’s ridiculous how much we benefit from it. Yet our current president keeps talking about how harmful it is and how much it needs to be renegotiated.
I’m so sick of the GOP talking about health care. They had seven years to come up with a new plan and they didn’t even have a plan that worked for their own membership. I get it. Healthcare is hard. That’s why it took so much negotiation to get the Affordable Care Act passed. And now that repeal has failed, the president has banked on an interesting strategy: Break ACA, then blame Democrats for it being broken. I don’t think he realizes that the executive orders he signs are public. You can’t snap your driveshaft in half then claim it’s your friend’s fault your car doesn’t work any more than you can strip out the means by which a bill works then blame someone else when it doesn’t.
Health care is so hard, guys. Both parties have an end goal and neither seems to recognize that it will take a lot of incremental steps to make progress toward those goals either way. Democrats’ goal of universal care probably goes through small steps like expanding MediCare, increasing what it covers, adding more incentives for states to buy into it, raising the maximum wage one can make to qualify for it, increasing the minimum coverage requirements of health care plans, then making medicare universal. Republicans will want to do the opposite- lowering the maximum wage to qualify for MediCare, adding additional requirements like drug testing and community service, expanding Health Savings Accounts and providing incentives for their use, and reducing the requirements of what must be covered. As far as this goes, I stand with the left. I consider good health to not only be a right, but a national security issue. There’s no point in protecting citizens from outside threats if they get killed by a bacteria that could easily be cured if one didn’t need to pay $100 to see a doctor and $100 for the medication. I’m sick of friends being bankrupted over a hospital stay.
I’m
sick
of
it.

The Only Thing Keeping Trump Out of Jail by Andrew Cohen
Tumblr media
Trump Leah Millis/REUTERS
After Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort went down, Trump’s world suddenly became smaller and more dangerous.
We can’t look to Donald Trump for guidance or wisdom in the wake of Tuesday’s twin blows to his presidency. We know that he’s going to go down fighting to the end, snarling back at his foes and anyone else who gets in his way. We know he’ll continue to deny the facts, the evidence and the truth, until someone takes away his power, and finally, his microphone. That day is not here yet, but it is measurably closer than it was a week ago. America knows that two more of the president’s men are crooks.
The people who really matter as Trump’s damnable presidency starts to implode are those who always have held in their hands the power to determine his fate: Congressional Republicans. Does the conviction on tax fraud and bank fraud charges of former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort erode their support for this administration? How about the fact that Trump’s former lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, implicated the president during his plea colloquy in federal court? Will Republicans, at last, save themselves, and America, from this rogue White House?
It’s anyone’s guess.
We’ve reached the part of the story where Trump, if he were not the president, would surely be a federal criminal defendant charged with campaign finance violations and likely others. Let that sink in as the administration continues to pitch itself as the “law and order” White House. Trump’s legal troubles are only going to get worse now that he is linked, in court and under oath, to admitted criminal conduct. It doesn’t matter if Cohen isn’t formally “cooperating” with prosecutors (though I bet he is). Cohen’s already done enough public damage.
What will Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell do now that Cohen has essentially corroborated other evidence linking Trump to multiple hush-money payments? Is he prepared to campaign this fall on behalf of a party led by an unindicted co-conspirator who successfully (until now anyway) paid off a woman not to tell her story of an illicit affair? What about Speaker Paul Ryan? He is going to go back home to Wisconsin and do, what, exactly? Tell voters that they should re-elect Republican incumbents so they can return to Washington and continue to cover up Trump’s crimes and the administration’s rank corruption?
What about all those feckless Republicans running in gerrymandered House districts that suddenly are competitive for the first time in a long time? Are any of them going to have the courage to do something now that it’s even clearer that this is the most corrupt administration in the nation’s history? Is there a point at which Trump’s legal problems are so profound that his perceived political power among his fellow Republicans weakens? If that doesn’t happen now, then when?
hat happened Tuesday wasn’t just another tick-tock day in the history of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. It wasn’t just another afternoon of shadowy leaks and unbridled craziness coming out of the mouth of Rudy Giuliani. It was a day when Donald Trump became arguably more culpable of felony crimes than Richard Nixon ever was during the course of the Watergate saga. Tuesday was the day that plausible deniability died for Republicans with a pulse and a conscience. And it didn’t come from Mueller, at least not directly. It was a Virginia jury that hammered Manafort. It was federal prosecutors from New York, not Washington, who brought Cohen in from the cold.
The early returns from members of Congress were not encouraging.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican who once mocked Trump but is now a presidential bestie, wanted the world to know Tuesday evening that the big takeaway from the day was that Manafort’s conviction and Cohen’s plea were not directly related to evidence of Russian collusion. So, too, did Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. That reminds me of the line I heard from a young man I was representing when I was in law school in Boston: “I didn’t steal that car,” he told me from his jail cell. “Good,” I said, “That’s a good defense to this auto theft case.” “No man, you don’t understand. I don’t do that petty shit. I am a crack dealer. I don’t steal cars.” Not such a good defense.
If the Republican defense of Trump boils down to: “We’ll excuse all his other crimes so long as the president isn’t shown to have conspired with the Russians,” it’s a terrible strategy. It’s also unpatriotic. There is already ample evidence that the Trump team did collude with Russians during the campaign in order to manipulate the race against Hillary Clinton. Second, the Manafort trial revealed clear evidence of his links to the Russians, which Mueller surely is using. Third, the illegal hush-money payments we now know Trump authorized, or consented to, may be only part of the story of the man’s criminal enterprises. Imagine the GOP 2018 bumper sticker: The Party of Felons? Sure! But Not Traitors!
In a sane world, Congress would immediately hold bipartisan hearings to explore the contours of the president’s conduct. They would prioritize this push for accountability and transparency over the dubious nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, because in a functioning democracy, it would be more important to first determine whether the president is a crook before giving him the opportunity to make another lifetime appointment to the nation’s highest court. The nation would be riveted, Watergate-like, by public congressional hearings into Trump’s alleged crimes.
But that is not the way this is going to unfold. Not with this crowd. What is far more likely is that McConnell and company will continue to cower and abdicate their constitutional functions and that the president’s tribunes in the media will continue to delude themselves that this is a mirage or some sort of sinister plot (which now encompasses 12 jurors in Virginia). Kavanaugh will be confirmed by the Senate and then likely deliver a crucial vote protecting Trump from Mueller if there’s a fight over a subpoena or a deposition or even an indictment. It is far more likely that Trump will pardon Manafort as soon as he thinks he can get away with it. And he might try to pardon Cohen, too, if Cohen changes his mind and decides he’s willing to accept one.
Maybe it will take those final actions, that level of obstruction of justice, to rouse Republicans from their disastrous inaction. Maybe it will take an indictment of the president by some brave soul at the Justice Department or by Mueller, himself. Or maybe not. The continuing defense of Trump by Republicans in the House and Senate has become increasingly untethered from law or fact, and in that sense, it mirrors the delusions from which Trump suffers. It’s no way to run a legislature, much less a country, but here we are, in the dog days of August, led by a man who, if he weren’t sworn into high office would be fighting in court to remain free on bail.

Remember the Poor
"Remember the Poor, It Cost's Nothing" Josh Billings Matthew 23:23-26 The Message (MSG) 23-24 “You’re hopeless, you religion scholars and Pharisees! Frauds! You keep meticulous account books, tithing on every nickel and dime you get, but on the meat of God’s Law, things like fairness and compassion and commitment—the absolute basics!—you carelessly take it or leave it. Careful bookkeeping is commendable, but the basics are required. Do you have any idea how silly you look, writing a life story that’s wrong from start to finish, nitpicking over commas and semicolons? 25-26 “You’re hopeless, you religion scholars and Pharisees! Frauds! You burnish the surface of your cups and bowls so they sparkle in the sun, while the insides are maggoty with your greed and gluttony. Stupid Pharisee! Scour the insides, and then the gleaming surface will mean something." ---------------------------------------------------------------- Carl Nolte, recently wrote: "I wondered about it (homeless people on the streets) even when camping by a river in the redwoods. What has become of us? Have we grown such calluses on our souls that we can look at this kind of agony in the streets and not see? Is that what it means to be a citizen of a beautiful and famous city such as San Francisco? We did nothing (thinking of passing by homeless person in City) I can't get it out of my mind." As I look back the past twenty five years I remember a time when homeless people were noticed, acts of compassion were shown to them by the majority of people. I remember people like Fr. Louie Vitalie, former pastor of St. Boniface Church who advocated and showed love to people on the street, he is the founder of the current homeless program at the Church; Sr. Bernie Gavin, advocated for the homeless, Reverend Glenda Hope who founded housing and had worship services on the streets, and the list goes on. The question I ask: "Is where are the clergy in working with the homeless?" And than I remember--"advocacy on the streets for street people does not pay enough, and is too dirty." There was a sense of caring, a sense of support. Now we ignore the person on the street, we see them as dirty, and we scream at our politicians to do something. Sr. Joan Chittlister, tells us: "Politicians will always ask the question, "Is it expedient? But the prophets must ask the question, "Is it right?" That is the reason I do not trust politicians, they always seek out the expedient answer, and the majority come from privilege and wealth and have no idea of the pain of people on the street. We need to ask the question "Is it right?" Our Gospel confronts all of us with our hypocrisy. We are all called to walk with each other as brothers and sisters, we are all called to suffer together so that others might not suffer. We are all called to feed people we see hungry, to fight for our government to shift their funds to mental health care, housing, and food; to provide housing to someone if we can or to push our churches, and our businesses to open their doors and provide housing. We walk past churches with beautiful spaces that stand empty, empty buildings, kept empty in order for the owners to correct more money, and people are sleeping outside in the cold. Ritual, lovely speeches are empty, until they are put into action. We can "remember the poor"--and until we put our words into action--it cost's nothing, and it leaves our lives empty, vacant, and is pure hypocrisy. Materialism, our desire for money, for property is destroying us, it is destroying our humanity. So let us remember the poor, the homeless, and in doing so look at our selves and see our own poverty, our own pain, and love them, as we want to be loved. Let us take Carl Nolte's words and put life into them, enter into the suffering, the pain, of others, and find life and joy and not walk away feeling guilty. Deo Gratias! Thanks be to God! ------------------------------------------- Bay Area Youth Led Climate Strike Start: Friday, September 20, 2019•10:00 AM Location:San Francisco Federal Building •90 7th Street, San Francisco , CA 94103 Host Contact Info: [email protected] +- (Adult allies are welcome) At 10am, in San Francisco we call for a youth-led climate strike march, going to different targets that are contributing to climate breakdown, leaving our mark to let these places know what we are fighting for. We will again start at the office of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and will connect targets in government, finance, and energy. For those that can’t join in person, we will be asking people to post on social media and tag our targets. The following are our demands through the action week and why we are striking: 1.We demand a safe, healthy, and just planet. This climate crisis threatens our ability to live. If climate change continues on this course, we won’t be able to eat, breathe, or have safe shelter. In order to successfully fight the climate crisis we are facing, we must also fight the systems of white supremacy, racism, greed, and exploitation that have led us to it. Fighting for climate justice means fighting for a world that is safe, healthy, and just for all of its inhabitants. We must enact climate emergency plans at the local, national, and international level. 2. We demand justice and asylum for people displaced by climate change.Individuals and families displaced by climate change seek asylum in a safe place because they have nowhere else to go. Climate justice means abolishing ICE, closing concentration camps at the border, ending family separation, and creating inclusive new laws and regulations that treat everyone as human. 3. We demand policy based on science. We have eleven years before the effects of the climate emergency are irreversible. We can’t afford to compromise with climate change deniers. We must enact immediate legislation based on scientific analysis of carbon emissions and the ways that climate disasters impact certain communities. Science clearly shows that global temperatures are rising dangerously, and that we are on track to face unprecedented climate disasters. We demand a Green New Deal, a resolution that lays out a science-based plan to reach negative carbon emissions by 2030. 4. We demand that people, not corporations, influence politics.Representation and transparency are vital for successful democracies; corporate money must be taken out of politics. We demand all politicians sign the “No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge.” We demand Citizens United must be overturned and super PAC’s be abolished. Corporate funding and donations from millionaires and billionaires must be replaced with public funding of elections in addition to small-dollar donations. To ensure that every vote counts, we must restore the Voting Rights Act, secure automatic registration for every citizen above 18, and re-enfranchise those convicted of felonies. 5. We demand equal rights for all.The government must be for the people, by the people; all policies and decisions made must be for the benefit of all. Black and trans lives matter; the Equality Act must be passed. The rights of Brown, Black, and Middle Eastern migrants must be respected. Women deserve full reproductive justice, and equity in the workplace. We demand universal background checks and Medicare for All in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. We demand diversity and representation, and intersectionality must fuel the climate justice movement. Frontline communities must have a voice and leadership role, and we look to indigenous communities to lead the transition to a just and sustainable world. 6. We demand that humans protect the rights of nature.Just as humans have rights, nature has rights. Humans have a moral obligation to respect and protect plants, animals, and ecosystems. We demand that the rights of nature be legally represented. This includes legislation to provide sanctuary for endangered species, regulate hunting, and end deforestation, pollution, destructive fuel extraction, fracking, factory farming, and unsustainable agriculture. All life is interconnected, and we must live in harmony with the Earth. 7. We demand a just transition Countries and individuals that have contributed the most to climate change must be held accountable. We demand urgent climate action, including the GND, that protects vulnerable communities and create economic justice. Policies must respect workers’ rights ’to living wages and health care, young people’s rights to free, relevant education, and everyone’s right to affordable housing. To quote Movement Generation: Transition is inevitable. Justice is not. A just transition is the process of getting from where we are to where we need to be by transforming the systems of economy and governance. A just transition requires moving from a globalized capitalist industrial economy to linked local living participatory economies that provide well-being for all. Ghostwriter Wanted (Some Collusion Required)
Recently The Daily Beast reported that Donald Trump is already excited about the idea of writing a “tell all” memoir:
[Trump] is planning on it being explosive and assumes (not without reason) that it will be a New York Times bestseller. And since the early days of his administration, he has conveyed his eagerness to get started on the project. “He sounded excited about it,” said one person who was present last year when the president made comments about writing a memoir. “He said it would sell better than even The Art of the Deal.”
Another source, who is a friend of Trump’s, said the president has casually discussed how such a book could be used to dish dirt and settle scores with his foes in the media, the Democratic Party, non-loyal Republicans, law enforcement, and even individuals in his own administration. Trump, according to this person, noted that this memoir could help “correct” the “fake news” already published in popular books and newspapers, and give him the opportunity to spin a juicy yarn on his time at the heights of power.
********
Mick Mulvaney stared at me from behind his desk in the chief of staff’s office. The man exuded honesty, integrity, and principle in a way matched only by the likes of McConnell, Nunes, or Ross.
“Blood test go OK?” he asked.
I nodded. “And you’re sure my family is all right?”
“You bet. I checked their handcuffs and gags myself. And there’s Netflix and Amazon in the safehouse.”
“Thank you.”
He peered down his granny glasses at me as the quizzing began. “What great author do you see Trump most resembling?”
I thought for a beat.
“Shakespeare?”
Mulvaney scowled. I tried again.
“Faulkner?”
The scowl deepened. “Think harder. In human history, who’s the greatest author in the English language—or any language, for that matter?”
I racked my brain. Then it came to me.
“Donald Trump?”
Mulvaney’s scowl transformed into a broad grin.
“Circle gets the square. You’ve read his previous bestsellers, I presume.”
“Naturellement.”
“Sorry?”
“Yes, I have.”
“What do you think the president’s greatest literary strength is?”
“I think he’s very good at creating fiction.”
“The president sees this book as a chance to set the record straight; to call out all the ‘fake news’ he’s been subjected to for the past three years.”
“Right.”
“Also he wants people to know he has really long fingers.” Mulvaney winked. There was a pause. “And everyone knows what that means.”
I forced a smile. There was another pause, until Mulvaney spoke, helpfully:
“It means he wants people to think he has a really big dick.”
“I think people are well aware that Mr. Trump is a really big dick.”
“Has one, has one,” Mulvaney corrected.
I made a note and took advantage of the lull to ask a question of my own.
“Will there be much back and forth with Mr. Trump while I’m writing? Normally I’d interview the subject at—”
Mulvaney cut me off. “We need someone who can run with this without needing their hand held. Dig?”
“No problem. But I assume, when it’s done, Mr. Trump will at least read it over to approve it?”
Mulvaney furrowed his brow. “We’ll give him the manuscript, yes.”
That furrowed brow worried me. “Are you saying he doesn’t have the attention span to read his own book?”
Mulvaney was silent, furrowing some more. I narrowed my gaze.
“He can read, right?” I asked.
“We’ll get Bill Barr to do a four page summary and someone can read it to him.”
I decided to let it go. “Any books he particularly admires that I might want to read, as models?”
“Two Corinthians.”
I wrote that down.
“Any thoughts on titles?” he asked while I was writing, as I thought he would, and I had some ready to pitch.
“Sure thing. How about, Trump: Almighty God-Emperor and Savior of Democracy (Part I)?”
“Bit subtle, don’t you think?”
“How about No Collusion: How I won the Presidency Without Really Trying?”
“I like it, but a bit narrow. Think bigger.”
“Mein Kampf?”
“Love that. Might be taken, though—we’ll do a copyright search.”
“Any topics you’d like me to avoid?”
“Just his refusal to release his tax returns, his multimillion dollar deals with Russia that he lied about to the American people, the $50 million bribe he offered Putin in the form of a penthouse apartment, the money laundering for Russian oligarchs, the real estate fraud, felony campaign finance violations, hush money for mistresses, anything having to do with abortions he might have paid for, the Trump Foundation, the Trump inauguration, his previous marriages, his temper, his early onset dementia—“
I stopped him. “I get it,” I said. “And I presume there will be an audiobook too?”
“For sure. The President will read it himself.”
My eyes must have gotten big, because Mulvaney’s got narrow. “He can read!” he barked, reading my mind.
“Of course.” A coughing fit came over me. Mulvaney looked rattled. He looked down, mumbling to himself, and I noticed for the first time that in his hand he had prayer beads. “If they’ll let him record it from Sing Sing,” he muttered.
“What’s that?” I asked.
“Nothing,” he said, regaining his composure. “Anyway, we can always get Alec Baldwin to do it.”
I nodded. He seemed mollified. “Any other questions, or can we button this thing up?”
“Just one. Why don’t you just hire Tony Schwarz again?”
Mulvaney’s lip curled into a sneer. Actually, it may have done that around 1967 and been fixed that way ever since.
“That is a name we don’t mention around here. The man you’re talking about proved to be a shameless publicity hound and traitor to his country. Wouldn’t you agree?”
I hesitated.
“We’re also looking into that rumors he might be Jewish. Jared’s on the case.”
I was confused. “But isn’t Jared—”
Mick cut me off again. “It’s because of people like Schw—I mean, that author—that we’ve developed the GLAS protocol.”
“GLAS protocol?” I asked.
“Ghostwriter Loyalty Assurance System. It’s all in the fine print in the contract. A microscopic silicon chip will be inserted behind your ear, subcutaneously. Should you violate the terms of your contract at any time—say, by getting all uppity and mouthing off to the press—a small electrical shock will be applied remotely, as a reminder of your obligations. Should you continue to act out, the voltage can be increased accordingly. And should you prove completely uncontrollable, the chip is capable of releasing a nerve agent into your bloodstream that will induce a violent and painful death within 24 hours.”
“Is that legal?”
“Normally no. But as a great man once said, it’s not a crime when the president does it. Cool with that?”
“Actually, that’s not much worse than some of the deals I’ve signed in the past.”
“Anything else? I have to get over to the Oval Office and look at paint swatches for the re-education camps.”
“One last thing. Not to be crass, but…..about the pay?”
Mulvaney waved his hand dismissively. “Oh, there’s no money upfront. It’s an honor just to be asked to write this book, don’t you think?” He continued before I could answer. “But don’t worry: you’ll make a killing in profit-participation. It’s the same deal President Trump has always given his contractors. Ask anyone in Atlantic City.”
I frowned. He seemed to sense my anxiety.
“Hey, if you can’t trust Donald Trump, who can you trust?”
I threw up in my mouth a little.
Mulvaney opened a desk drawer. “So, if there’s nothing else, it’s just a matter of dotting i’s and crossing t’s…..”
He pulled out a fountain pen. I could see that it was filled with my own blood, which the White House medical staff had drawn earlier. He held out the pen and slid the contract across the desk, nodding for me to sign on the line which was dotted. “Just think,” he said, smiling, “you’ll always be remembered for your part in telling the Trump story.”
As I took the pen, I smelled sulfur.

What happens when a car insurance company commits fraud? Please help!!?
I was told by my car insurance that my car was totaled, and would only be good for parts. It was in a MINOR flood, and I called to have it evaluated. They said water was in the motor, fuse boxes, everything was ruined supposedly. I knew they were lying, because I had my fiance check it all out, and there wasn't a drop in it except for the carpeting. I told them so, and said I wanted the car back to fix it myself, but the adjustor said they already paid my bank for the damage (not even the full amount, they came up with about 45% of the payoff amount, but it was worth what I owed on it). They said if I wanted it back, I would have to give them $2,700 for the car. I said to hell with it, and had to come up with 2,600 to pay off the remaining part of the loan, and then go buy another car. Last year, I seen my car in the next town over. Same vin number, same paint chipped bumper, same fist mark behind the passenger door. I was mad, but blew it off. Then, I seen it on a buy sell trade site and decided to inquire about the details. The guy bought it for $800 and didn't have to fix anything on it except for what I needed to fix before the flood (window regulator, wheel baring, and new tires). He told me he thought I had committed insurance fraud to get a pay out from them. So, I called my old insurance company, and the lady took all my information down and gave me the adjustor's number, the adjustor's supervisor's number, and the fraud department's number. I called the adjustor, left a message, and then filed a claim with the fraud department. They said to expect a call from them next week. What exactly happens in a case like this?? I don't expect a hefty payout or anything, but still, I've never known anyone who had this happen to them, but I do know people who committed insurance fraud. I am growing my insurance agency. Any sugguestions on how to avoid the time consuming busywork ?
I am good at getting people to buy from me, but hate all busywork . I am licensed and live in California, and sell personal health, life, car, and home insurance. I recognize that by not doing all the work, from running the quote to entering the data, that I should not be entitle to the full sum of the commission the carriers pay. Is there any franchise out there that has people who do all the deskwork so I can sell more? Its worth it to me to trade off part of the commish if I can get more people to buy from me. And I feel confident that I can bring more and more people in. My problem is that I lose oodles of time working their dec pages, typing in all their data to the various carriers.. Note: please dont answer if you are a recruiter. I am really looking for a good honest perspective from someone who has been in my shoes......Thanks so much.""
What's the best life insurance?
This question is for my mom. My mom is 63 years old and needs life insurance. She is in great condition. Never smoked or done drugs. She never drinks alcohol. The only thing really is that she has been told she is borderline diabetic. My mom doesn't have a lot of money so she would like to find an insurance that is very cheap. Her job will be ending in July an will only have her disability to live off of. So what's the best life insurance?

So can I lie about my grades to the car insurance company?
So im 17 and getting my license in a couple of days. Apparently i need car insurance to drive by myself. Seeing as how my parentals want to pay less, they want as much discounts as possible (who doesnt?). So i kinda have like a 2.5 GPA and you need a 3.0 for the discount. So, im thinking i can get a report card, scan it and change the grades. When i do that, i just give it to whatever insurance company and they'll give me the discount. Sounds fool proof. Now, is it? Can the insurance company find out my real grades? i doubt they actually look. So can someone fill me in?""

What is a good car insurance company - value and a known company - not high risk?
I would like to switch car insurance companies - one because when I buy a third car and add it to my policy they charge me $5.00 for installment billing even though I pay in full - this leads to the second more serious complication which is that my husband works in the car business and on occasion decides to buy a new car b/c it is a good value and he like the car, then we sell the second car. We typically have the second car for 11-22 months. I mentioned to the insurance company that in the future I want to avoid this $5.00 fee since I always pay in full and I waving it this time wouldn't solve future issues b/c my husband is in the car business and we buy a third car to sell the second when he finds one he likes. THEN the cust svc guy goes on a rant - ARE YOU RESELLERS... blah blah blah and WE HAVE STRICT UNDERWRITING GUIDELINES blah blah blah etc. I tell him that holding onto a car for the time periods that we have would certainly indicate that we are not... and titling it""

What do Life and Homeowners insurance cover?
I have a tricky question that I really need an answer to. I just got back from the hospital. I was working on my garage this evening and I had a terrible accident. I was ripping a piece of ply wood with my table saw and I ended up cutting my middle finger on my left hand off. I have heard that in some instances life insurance pays out. I am just wondering if maybe that would be true. The other thing I was thinking is would my homeowners insurance possibly cover something like this. I have health insurance and am not too worried about medical bills. The problem I will have is keeping up with my bills when I cant work which sounds like quite awhile until this heals. My finger was non- repairable. I am in the construction industry. I need my hands to work. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Mortgage company wants us to pay hazard insurance premium up front?

Car insurance?
what company is the best to get car insurance from? I want to fill out the progressive direct (as they show you online) but I am nervous about my credit score going down. Help.
What's the most you or anyone you know has ever paid for car insurance?
I'm asking cuz I now pay close to 400/month... It's like 396. - I have 3 accidents on my record (from like 2 1/2 years ago, only one was my fault). however I found out that all of them were listed on my insurance as my fault. Found out the insurance companies automatically assign fault unless you produce proof otherwise. Now one of them I got hit from behind, so that's easy to prove with police report. However, the other one guy ran red light and I hit his side. I think the police report has it as 50/50 fault since it really can't be proven either way, it's his word against mine who ran the light. Do you think I'll be able to fight that one??? I'm gonna go down to the police headquarters and get the police reports over the next few days, just wondering... Also how much would that actually save me? - My dad had a speeding ticket (90 in a 65) and he was listed as a second driver on my car, so that also brought it up. I'm going to remove him from my insurance since he rarely drives my car anymore, and has replaced his own car. - I have the defensive driving discount already. - I'm 26 years old female in NY. I drive less than 5 miles a day to work. And I drive a silver 2006 Saturn Ion in which I'm still making payments on, so I still have comprehensive. Based on all that, do you think I can find cheaper elsewhere. Where should I loook??? I feel like whenever I try to switch companies they give me a great rate on the phone, than all of a sudden after like a month or 2 being with them, my rates suddenly increase cuz they just found the accidents . I realize I don't have the greatest driver history in the world, but 400 just seems outrageous. I know people who pay less than that a year. I was thinking of selling my car, and getting a cheaper one w/ no payments on it, which would rid me not only of my car payment, but I wouldn't have to carry comprehensive anymore either. Problem is whatever I made from the car would have to go towards paying off the loan, and I would have no money to buy the new car... I feel so stuck, but I'm paying like 750/month between insurance/car payments, and I have a crappy job and can't afford it. Suggestions??? oh btw I use a local broker and autoone insurance""
