jason comes back as the red hood, planning to take out his little replacement or at least hurt him bad enough that he drops the suit and lets robin die but suddenly, a month before his plan is to start, robin disappears. and so does the joker.

what? jason looks, he scours security cameras and internet forums, even weasels his was into the gcpd’s files and…

nothing. there’s nothing.

no bodies reported, joker’s not in arkham or black gate or any other prison, he hasn’t finally been given the death penalty he just. disappeared.

he can’t find anything on robin either, or tim drake, for months until he stumbles upon a nearly perfect patient file in some hospital records.

nearly. it’d be perfect to anyone else but jason, even years later, can recognize bruce and barbara’s finger prints all over it. it’s a cover. a cover for what though? he reads through the file, tim drake’s file, presumably and finds… well.

someone clearly tortured the kid, and with the meds he was being prescribed it got to him. it would’ve gotten to anyone.

jason shudders reading the initial injury report. electric burns, lots of them, are what catches his eye the most but there’s all kinds of stuff. what catches his eye the most though is the lacerations that had to be stitched either side of the kid’s mouth. shit.

he doesn’t get the full picture, not yet, but pieces are starting to come together. the joker has been missing for a while, just a little longer than jason’s replacement has been in the hospital for some violent injuries.

the joker is missing.

tim drake is in the hospital.

something happened, clearly. the joker did something to tim, something awful, something bad enough that the joker disappeared and the kid’s been in the hospital for weeks.

bruce didn’t make it in time, only this time robin wasn’t dead, he’d been broken.

someone had gotten to robin, to tim drake, before jason could, had gotten to him so badly that even after he was released he wasn’t robin anymore.

not because he didn’t want to be, a few bugs here and there in the manor let him know that much, but because bruce wouldn’t let him.

it comes out, in one of these arguments, that time killed the joker. shot him dead. and jason almost wants to congratulate the kid for it, or wants to strangle bruce and ask him how the hell he let robin, who’s just a kid, tim, who’s just a fucking kid, get anywhere near a position where he had the means and desire to fatally shoot the joker.

because that’s it, isn’t it? the reason jason’s like this, doing this, is because of the joker. jason knows how to use guns because of the joker. he’ll never go to college like a normal kid because of the joker. and now tim.

tim wants to be robin, asks for it, begs bruce to let him back out in the suit and jason nearly finds himself agreeing with bruce. the joker’s gone sure but what if someone else tries the same thing? what if someone tries worse? being in the suit’s already gotten tim this much pain, why risk more?

it hits jason, one night, that he stopped being angry at tim a while ago. a long while. he can’t be angry at bruce either, because the joker is dead. there’s no one to enact vengeance for his death on anymore.

Tag game! I was tagged by the lovely @bitingdrivers, (and if you haven't read their fics about the demon keep go do that rn!!!) my word was "RUNE" and I have to admit, finding one for E was surprisingly difficult! there's four different WIPs here, and two of them may look a little unfamiliar...

R - "Rocky trots back over to Max, and Charles watches carefully to see if it's an alert, but he just wants pets." (alternate ending search history)

The four Sages were called back into the past by Terrako and they remember it happening

Tulin got to meet his hero, Revali, and decided to be just like him, adopting his idol’s brash personality and drive. He practises Revali’s Gale and eventually comes up with his own way to show off his mastery of wind, and when trouble hits his home he rushes to fix it on his own to prove how strong he has become and because, like Revali, he can’t stand idly by while he knows there’s still things he can do.

For Yunobo, when he goes back and meets his ancestor Daruk, he is a very timid and reactive Goron. He needs a push from others to come up with ideas and carry plans through, and when bad things happen to him his first instinct is to use his fire magic as a shield, to wait until the threat has passed by or somebody else has come to save him. But when he is sent back in time to Divine Beast vah Rudania, for the first time he has to be the one doing the saving. Daruk encourages Yunobo and is proud of him from the moment they meet, and it’s this support that gives Yunobo the confidence to help fight against Calamity Ganon, and to start YunoboCo when he gets home.

For Sidon, meeting his family from 100 years ago is bittersweet. He is proud that he was able to protect his sister, and it’s a comfort to know there is a version of him who will grow up alongside Mipha because of his bravery and fighting prowess. But as much joy as he got from seeing her, hugging her, and hearing her voice again, it just reminds him of how unfair her death was, of just how young she was when she died and how he is now older even though he’s the younger sibling. And at the end of the war, when he’s returned to their original time, he has to readjust to her absence all over again, and in light of that is it really a shock he’d have her statue moved further away from his home? And it also explains why he’s so desperate to protect Yona from the sludge.

Riju in AoC still a new ruler to her people, despite her accomplishments in BotW, she still feels guilty over the temporary loss of the Thunder Helm and isn’t sure if she can lead the Gerudo. She has a lot of confidence but is quick to falter when things go wrong. Urbosa treats Riju as a capable fighter despite her young age, and teaches her that she should never give up, to keep trying even when her resolve falters. There is always something you can do, even when it’s just stalling for time until help can arrive. Urbosa guides her in mastering the Thunderhelm, and possibly begins teaching her to summon lightning herself after Kohga attempts to steal it, and at the end of their time together Urbosa tells Riju she’s certain she’ll lead the Gerudo well. Riju treasured her time being mentored by Urbosa so much that she considers what Urbosa would do during the Upheaval in her diary in TotK.

I think the entire reason Tulin was added to the DLC was because the TotK team had already decided that Tulin was going to be the Sage of Wind, and that since the other sages were going to meet their Champions Tulin had to as well.

At some point in the years between Botw and TotK Teba, Tulin, Sidon, Yunobo, Riju and Patricia were summoned back in time by Terrako to aid the Champions during the Calamity, and even though those events took place in a parallel timeline and had no bearing on the world they returned to, the Sages’ personalities at the beginning of TotK are because of their experiences during the Calamity and the bonds they made with the Champions.

i’ve been seeing posts/videos on youtube about the next possible star trek movie and having it take place decades before the timeline of tos and like

do they not understand how feral i (and many other fans i assume) would become if we finally got an adaptation of star trek that gave us more spirk?

spirk was the pairing that launched a thousand ships! not to mention the amazing fanfics its spawned. sure exploring the playground of the star trek verse is beautiful, but as tos and aos have shown us, there are an infinite amount of realities out there where james t kirk wound up with a spock. hell kirk himself said it in the scene from aos that never was

“You once said being a starship captain was my first, best destiny… if that’s true, then yours is to be by my side. If there’s any true logic to the universe… we’ll end up on that bridge again someday.”

Then there was light.

He gasped and someone helped him to sit up. He couldn’t remember how he ended up on the floor.

”Are you alright?”

“What, uh, happened?” She was silent and that worried him. “Martha?”

“How long have you been like this?” His confusion must have been on his face. “It’s like you’re there, but someone else is driving.”

“I… don’t understand.”

“Lionel,” she handed him a piece of paper with fresh ink. “You wrote strange symbols on a contract. I couldn’t get you to stop writing.”

Obsessed with the idea of Extraordinary Things being a back and forth between Jaskier and Radovid, with Jaskier trying to draw him out in the first verse, and Radovid finally answering him in the second.

Cause like, with Radovid, Jaskier meets someone who he can't fully read properly. He knows there's something under the front of a drunken, bumbling prince, but he doesn't know him well enough yet to be certain as to what.

So, he tests the waters a bit. throws out a line to see if Radovid will take it—and he does. A little bit. But it's so interesting to me, because it doesn't just feel like Jaskier is trying to nail down Radovid's truth in this verse; it feels like he's injecting elements of his own mask into it, as well.

"Keep your words on ice, your gaze lights the fire. They say 'keep on playing nice,' but I have no desire. Why waste our words when lips were made for extraordinary things? It's not a want, it's a need, it is paying no heed to what others say to sing."

This is Jaskier's read of Radovid as he knows him so far: a man hiding more complex wants beneath the veneer of a drunken party boy. But it's also Jaskier admitting that he knows this about Radovid because he wears the exact same mask himself.

Much like how Jaskier and Ciri speak through Geralt and Yennefer in order to process their own feelings about them later in the season, Jaskier sings through himself in order to comprehend who Radovid is. Jaskier is using the performative persona he's crafted for himself in an attempt to coax Radovid out of his.

All of it leads into the main intention of this song: "The greatest songs are made up of unspoken words of love. Of them, I've had enough. with you, I am enough." I am tired of having to put up a front. I want to be understood. I think you understand me. Prove me right.

And Radovid sees what Jaskier is doing. He comments on Jaskier's ability to see people for who they are and not who they pretend to be. But there's still more he wants to understand. This still feels like a game, in a way.

It's only after Radovid sees the brutality of Dijkstra and Philippa up close, watches them orchestrate the assassination of the queen and threaten to incriminate him if he doesn't fall in line, that he then grasps the vulnerability in Jaskier's lyrics. Jaskier is also caught between multiple conflicting desires, that of his loyalty to Geralt/Yen/Ciri, and that of his work as the Sandpiper & how said work is backed by his continued commitment to Redanian Intelligence. That internal conflict and the desire to escape it is also highlighted in the song's first verse ("they say keep on playing nice, but i have no desire"). Only after all of this, when true fear begins to take over and the game stops being fun, does Radovid truly begin to truly understand Jaskier.

And so, he seeks him out. And he responds.

“Drop the sweet disguise, your heart’s beating too loud. The fairytales and little lies can’t drown out all the sound.” You were right. I do understand you. I know what you really want, because we're the same. You can’t hide it behind a façade of a song and a story and a persona.

“Take this heart and break this heart for extraordinary things.” I don't know what will become of this, or us. I still don't fully know if we can trust each other. But no one has ever seen me in the way that you have.

It's not a want, it's a need. With you, I am enough.

micky wakes mike up at three am on some random wednesday in the 70s and mike finds him staring over him, face slightly lit by the window and absolutely wide-eyed. and then micky says “mike, you’re a weird girl.” and then immediately konks out snoring onto mike and mike thinks about this for YEARS. like what the fuck? and then one day in the 90s it hits him (maybe as he’s converting the monkeemobile into a low-riding hopping bird) that he is. a weird. girl.

Listen. Let me cook. Basta could have Middle Eastern ancestry due to prominent numbers of muslim settlers in southern territory of Italy from the 8th to 13th century. Inkworld is more or less our world but stuck in some weird timeframe of the late Middle Ages/ entering early Renaissance mix up (possibly inspired by the illustrations in the silver book, which is a fairytale) which is when Arabs began making their presence known in Sicily and later elsewhere. Basta's parents could have assimilated or otherwise.

Fair hair and eyes are seemingly the standard in Inkworld (e.g: cosimo, the Piper, Brianna, Capricorn etcBattista's remark about their heroes, and Mo being such a big name despite his outlandishly 'dark as moleskin' hair) Being multiracial or at least different ethnicity is uncommon but not unheard of in Inkworld. Basta's the only one from Inkworld, along with the Prince, to have been tan/or dark-skinned and dark-haired enough to warrant a mention (even though that single tibit of a sentence confirming that was more of an emphasis on Basta's state in the cage). Huge shout-out to that one line in Inkheart where Basta gets so close to Meggie's face she sees her own reflection in his eyes that incited all of this.

diplomacy is a word that's seldom said in the same sentence as antivan crow ---- at least not in the generally agreed upon sense. their particular style of diplomacy had far fewer words to it --- if any at all; and more often than not, much bloodier ends. so if viago being present anywhere that gave precedent to the non - crow definition of the word could be seen as odd, emilia’s insistence on coming along with him might just as well be seen as even odder.

a gathering like this was an opportunity, she’d argued; a chance to sharpen her skills in a bustling room. ( at the very least, it was a chance for the two of them to spend a little time together and catch up now that she was back after spending the last week in salle on his orders. and if that little tug on his brotherly heartstrings wasn’t enough, she was prepared to frame her coming along as a favor ---- one she would owe and he would have to call upon whenever he saw fit. )

and while the evening had started out with the two of them having a moment to actually reconnect over her comings and goings of the last week, it wasn’t to last — diplomats, a merchant prince here and there, big names and bigger personalities amongst them — even some old employers that would pass viago with a knowing glance or a nod — and surely some potentially new ones too before the night was even over. essentially, more than enough faces to keep viago otherwise occupied with the goings on in the room.

then of course, there's the entrance of josephine montilyet. it had certainly not gone unnoticed by either of them, or the room at large — viago quickly excusing himself from emilia’s side with an apology and an explanation about something he’d been meaning to speak to josephine about before the rest of the room demanded too much of her attention. 'go go go.' she understands without his needing to explain himself; cheekily waving her brother off while almost immediately turning her eyes back towards the entourage that had filtered in behind the ambassador to --- hopefully — seek out a montilyet of her own.

it doesn’t take her long to find laurien; a skill she’s certain neither viago nor josephine would be thrilled to know she’s gotten rather good at. ( and one she can’t even credit her crow training for — they have a tendency to gravitate towards one another with ease now. ) the grin she offers him is far more playful than proper as she curls her arm around his while coming up from behind; the fact they’re in the middle of a room full of antivans reminding her to mind her manners. as best she can.

“ciao tesoro, it’s been too long again,” up now on the toes of her boots she purposely fails brushing a brief kiss to his cheek, the gesture landing closer to the corner of his mouth, misplaced just like those aforementioned ( and now fully abandoned ) manners.

she stays up on tip toe, making it easier to have his ear — a closeness she takes advantage of further with a brush of her lips against his cheek, just below his ear. “can i convince you to come with me?” a quiet coo despite the noise of the conversations around them, a gentle tug at the silk of his sleeve. “i think i saw some doors to a little balcony earlier. down the hall. might be nice,” nice being just about the worst way to describe her intentions behind getting him alone, “and then i can say hello properly.”

Okay I finally wrote another part for Trektober! I really wanted to do this body mod prompt, and especially wanted to write it as a sort of healing and grounding thing for the body. I’m really personally fascinated by Kirk’s time on Tarsus IV (see my first fill for Trektober) and I wanted to explore like trauma healing from that through acts of decorating and personal ownership of someone’s body. So I present this fic about Kirk’s journey with piercings.

When Kirk was a teenager he hadn’t had the language for what he’d been through. Everyone around him talked of course. Talked in detail about Tarsus IV, but they hadn’t been there, hadn’t seen what he’d seen. Hadn’t watched everyone he knew die, hadn’t known Kodos the way he’d known Kodos. It was too surreal, to have everyone seemingly know everything and look at him with pity. He sometimes wondered if he’d actually survived, if the world he was experiencing was actually real.

Sometimes he wasn’t sure he wasn’t actually one of the many dead, and this was all a dream.
