summary: you and coriolanus have been dating in secret for months, all it takes is one songbird for everything to come into the light.

a/n: part three is finally hereee! sorry it took so long i've been dealing with some shit and doing a lot of work as life's just gotten very busy but don't worry - nothing will be left undone and trust me when i say i already have the ending for this series planned out :)

After the incident the previous day between Brandy and Arachne as well as the suggestions from Coriolanus taken on board, the mentors had been allowed one hour with their tributes to discuss tactics.

It was good yet bad all at once. You wanted to give Wovey advice, a fighting chance but yet you knew no matter how hard you tried, no matter how much help you gave her, she stood no chance compared to people like Reaper and even Lucy Gray.

She was small and innocent, young.

"In spite of yesterdays - tragic events, our president has decided that the games must go on. Show everyone the Capitol is unafraid of such acts of terror, to which I and Doctor Gaul wishes you to preview the arena this afternoon - with your tributes. Later this evening, there will be a specialised television presentation of each tribute to our audience to, well get to know them. You will have an hour to discuss strategy. You may begin." Dean Casca Highbottom spoke into the echoey room, so large it was almost comical.

All of the tributes had been chained to the tables like animals and it made you sick to your stomach. You were aware they may harm you but at the same time such treatment would drive anyone to violence, it wasn't simply because they were District.

"Hi Y/N." Wovey smiled, so innocent. So naive.

"Wovey. I was thinking about how you might approach the games and I figured what might be best is to hide. You're small, an advantage that the other tributes don't have. I'm sure we can find some spaces this afternoon that might prove useful?" You suggested, not wishing to make this conversation more painful and personal than it had to be.

"Sure." She murmured, gaze positioned on the chains around her wrists.

"And if you wait until it's dark and everyone is sleeping you could go to the middle - collect whatever weapons they have left, just in case but otherwise I recommend waiting it out. If they can't find you they can't kill you." The sentence left a bitter taste in your mouth, you had never pictured yourself recommending a child to wait her death out in your life. The Capitol Academy was sold to you with visions of wealth and power, and now you has gone from student to mentor.

"I don't want to kill anyone." She frowned. She didn't even care that she could die, only fearing harming others. You felt your heart ache and yet, you could do nothing. No words would be good enough to reassure her, no actions would be able to save her. For once, you were useless.

"Wovey-" You began your sympathetic speech though Casca cut you off.

"Snow, Y/N. Let's go." He said as peacekeepers arrived to escort you to Doctor Gaul.

You rose without another word to Wovey, aware nothing you could say would be of any help at this time.

You knew it was about Coryo's proposal which you had not helped in and yet you weren't too upset about it. You didn't need the Plinth Prize nor did you need Doctor Gauls' approval and so you set out to let her know of your lack of involvement in this task.

"How is your tribute?" Coriolanus asked after minutes of silence.

"Her name is Wovey and she's fine. A little frightened but aren't we all?" You said, you were hesitant to tell him too much of Wovey's weaknesses and you didn't know why. This was Coriolanus. Your best friend of over ten years and your boyfriend of a few months and yet, you had a feeling whatever you said would be used against you.

"I suppose." He answered. You supposed his tone was meant to come off charmingly but all you felt was unease.

"This proposal. I haven't done it." You let him know, it was the least you could do before facing the psychopath known as Head Gamemaker.

"We have. I handed it in this morning." He answered with a hint of pride. Impressed with himself that he had taken initiative, helped you.

"I thought I made it clear the other day that I wanted no part in this plan to profit off of peoples lives, Coriolanus." You muttered, increasingly angry with his dedication to the Games and what they stood for.

"Well if you want to help Wovey, I suggest you don't tell Doctor Gaul that." He smiled, holding the door to her office open for you in a feign attempt at being a gentlemen.

As you walked into her office you couldn't help but feel disgusted. It was littered with mutants, clearly created to kill, all sat in glass jars on shelf upon shelf. Stacked all the way up to the ceiling.

"Mr Snow, Miss L/N. Come and see my new babies." Gaul said as she appeared at the back of the room. Where she had been hidden, you had no clue.

You did as she said, never one to disobey your superiors, climbing the snake tank alongside her.

"Is there a point to their colour?" You asked curiously. The snakes were surprisingly beautiful, chromatic as they shifted around on top of one another.

"There's a point to everything Miss L/N. Or to nothing at all, which brings me neatly to your proposal. Which one of you actually wrote it." She asked, as if to catch you out but you felt no remorse in admitting it wasn't you.

"Coriolanus, Doctor." You answer, sensing Coriolanus' hesitation in baiting you out.

"Well, how shocking. I expected more of a conflict." She replied, as though she were annoyed by your honesty as she reached into the snake tank, pulling Coriolanus' proposal out. "They're good your suggestions. I'm going to recommend my team implement as many as possible for tomorrow. Now run along you have an arena to promote, and Miss L/N I must say - I am most disappointed by your lack of involvement in these brilliant ideas."

"Well thank you, Doctor Gaul for your offer but, I thought Mr Snow had it safely under his control." You smiled politely before you both left to 'promote' but more so survey the new arena. "Wait." You said stopping Coriolanus before you got into the truck. "I don't know what has become of you Coriolanus Snow, but I want the little boy who fought to provide for his family while also caring for others back. You are turning into one of them, and I'm not going to be there to watch the world burn beneath your feet." You spat, leaving him to think as you sat in silence for the rest of the journey.

It seemed Coriolanus felt spiteful towards your words as he too ignored you up until this very moment as you walked into the arena.

You smiled reassuringly down at Wovey who looked just so scared. You were only three years older than her and yet you felt a motherly protection towards her, one you couldn't shake off.

Infront of you was Coryo and Lucy Gray. At first you pitied the girl, coming from twelve must be hard as they were food deprived and worked to the bone and yet now, as she stood holding your boyfriends hand in her beautiful rainbow dress, you loathed everything about her.

Your eyes rolled as far back as they physically could, your disgust clear to anyone looking but only one person was. Sejanus. He looked at you with pity and for once, you appreciated it. You decided he must know about you and Coriolanus and seeing as nobody else did they all whispered about him and Lucy Gray, how sweet they seemed.

You walked around alone before he appeared at your side.

"You deserve better, Y/N." Sejanus said, eyes never meeting your own as you continued to survey the arena, never even noticing his eyes stuck on his watch.

"Debatable." You chuckled, feeling a sense of self responsibility for getting with a man as dangerous as Coriolanus Snow in the first place.

"I wouldn't worry. If there's anything I've learnt about Coryo it's that he likes shiny things, new things - and she's definitely a spectacle." he chuckled to himself, it was safe to say Lucy Gray's ability to impress a crowd hadn't been missed by anyone.

"He'll grow tired eventually. I was his precious rose once." You sighed as the reality of the situation finally settled in.

You soaked in the silence for a few moments before you realised Sejanus' lack of response, turning in annoyance to see his eyes following the hand of his watch clock closely as he mouthed a countdown of the minutes.

"What are you-" You began.

"We've got to go." He said, grabbing your arm and beginning to walk towards the exit cautiously, not catching the attention of any guards.

"What do you mean? Sejanus?" You asked as he would not slow, not for anything. You looked around, seeing everyone else still stood stationary as they calmly conversed.

"Just follow me, Y/N." He said, still attempting to stay calm but you noticed his wide eyes.

You walked in silence, your heartbeat getting louder in your ear with each step until you hearing went completely silent, vision going black as both you and Sejanus were thrown to the floor in a cloud of smoke.

It took a few moments for you to be brought back to reality as you sat up, dazed hearing the yells of people around you. Once again before you could even figure out what was happening Sejanus' grabbed you, pulling you to your feet as you ran out of the door. 'Enjoy the show' now sounding muffled.

"What about Coryo?" You cried out in desperation, no matter what he put you through he was your first love and you had always pictured him to be your last.

"If we go back now, Y/N, we'll die." Sejanus replied as he continued dragging you until you reached the fresh air outside. Your charred lungs welcoming it.

As you looked back through the doorway you saw nothing, no one. Simply black smoke. You felt guilty and yet still - deep down - your heart yearned for the death of Lucy Gray.

It had been five hours now, sat around Coriolanus' bed alongside Sejanus and Tigris.

He hadn't so much as twitched and it had your heart racing with panic, if he died, you knew a part of you died with him.

Tigris comforted you as best she could in her own worry, noting how his chest continued to move up and down steadily and that the doctor only mentioned an injured arm, not that he was at risk of death.

The appearance of bright blue eyes caught everyone's attention as you rushed to be by his bed.

"Coryo." You said, a large smile on your face. You watched as his eyes flickered around in confusion, landing on you for a few moments. You don't know what you expected, a look of love? What you most definitely didn't expect was one of disgust.

"Lucy Gray, is she-" He stated, looking to Tigris for an answer.

"She's alive." Tigris responded through gritted teeth as she looked to you with sympathetic eyes. Her reply was lost to you as the ringing in your ears after the explosion returned. Your heart beating loud in your chest. You placed a hand over it, feeling it pound against your palm.

Your eyes glazed over as you walked away into a secluded corner, waving Sejanus off as he attempted to follow you.

It felt now more than ever so official, so real without a doubt. You had lost Coriolanus Snow. He no longer loved you, cared for you or even worried for you.

The cage that was his heart had opened wide, setting you free and instead capturing something new and desirable. A songbird.

ok so i was actually kinda surprised to find that looking at the ao3 stats and adjusting for how long ofmd’s existed (a year and a half) vs how long the stucky fandom’s been around (coming up on a decade), not only is gentlebeard on par with stucky but it actually beats stucky for amount of fics written. but i’m making a prediction now just based on how i’ve observed fandoms to work: i do think the gentlebeard popularity will peter out faster than stucky did

i’m not saying bc i think gentlebeard is worse or the ofmd fandom is weak or anything, i’m saying this bc in fandom it seems like the white masc queerbait ships* have like, an absurd amount of longevity that goes way beyond the general fandom surrounding whatever media said white masc queerbait ship hails from. im thinking abt the protagonist/rival ship from the TERF wizard series that nobody decent talks about in public anymore. before we all cut jkr out of our lives, people were still churning out fics abt the main character and that racist blond kid pretty regularly. and another example, we have those scientists from pacific rim that are more popular than any of the main characters from that movie. it’s been years and the newt/hermann fandom is still going strong.

and i say “newt/hermann fandom” intentionally, bc that’s the thing that i think actually gives these ships their longevity: when there are fans who are primarily invested in a piece of media because of a noncanonical masc4masc queerbait ship, they’re not really fans of the media itself. i mean, some of them might be, but if they are then that’s in addition to being fans of this alternate queer interpretation of the media in question. they’re a fan of the fandom mass hallucination that the fans collectively and collaboratively invented of a romantic/sexual/homoerotic relationship between two guys who on-screen might hug like once or twice (or sometimes even never)

and i’m pretty sure the reason this sort of fandom phenomenon tends to have so much longevity is bc the fans have already created this whole extensive romantic storyline using what is often some pretty minimal canonical material to work with. so when the movie franchise or the tv show ends and the shippers no longer have any new canonical material to work with, they can keep going for years because really, they were already making shit up from the start.

so compared to that, gentlebeard is way different bc everything the fans might have invented on our own the show pretty much already did for us, and anything the show didn’t do yet is probably coming for us this season (or in s3, fingers crossed). i’ve mentioned before how a lot of fanfiction seems to fall on a spectrum between “fix” and “expand,” and by the end of ofmd i doubt there’s gonna be a whole lot that gentlebeard fans feel like they need to “fix.” versus stucky, where there’s so much that needs to be fixed that you might as well just throw the whole canon out.

i don't really mean any of this as a criticism or an attack on fans of queerbait ships like this, im just pointing out fandom trends that i've noticed. i myself have been deeply invested in stucky, newmann, and the gay wizard boys at different points in my life. like there is something very fun abt putting on slash goggles and making queer content out of nothing. personally though, now that we're in an age where we're getting canon queer content, im not so engaged in a lot of the ships i used to care so much about, but i don't think it's inherently wrong** for people to still enjoy some classic fandom queerbait ships. it's just a very different thing from enjoying canonical queer ships like gentlebeard

*im using “queerbait ships” loosely to include popular gay ships in media that was never in a million years going to make these characters gay.

**a clarifying point: i don't think it's inherently wrong, however there are a lot of problematic elements to this kind of fandom activity, namely the way a lot of these queerbait ships will dominate a fandom while other characters who are important in canon get completely sidelined (and yes, the sidelined characters are often women/poc). also, less importantly, when people's primary media consumption revolves around strip mining canon for shipping content, this absolutely destroys their media literacy and critical thinking. again, im not saying this to attack ppl who engage in fandom primarily through fic/art of noncanonical gay ships, i myself have done the same thing. but i think ppl who do should also make a conscious effort to also engage with fan content that centers women/poc, or at the very least need to be aware of the issues around this kind of fandom activity.

So uh, I've been hearing a lot about that bttf fic your writing. I was wondering if you could share a bit of its plot? I just really wanna know what it's about :D

Well it's still heavily under the works... I've only mentioned it here and there, but haven't taken the time to create it's own post for it...

But I guess I'll do that right now! The structure is still subject to change but here's what I have in mind so far:

It'll be split into 5ish parts. I haven't written them all, but I can say for a fact they will vary in length. Part 1 will follow the first movie EXCEPT for the ending where Doc shows up and says they need to go to the future. Part 2 will be exploring the Lone Pines timeline and Marty adjusting to his new family. Then, it will end with Doc going to Marty and taking him to the future to save his kids. Part 3 will be a side story or collection of stories of what happened since 1955 that led to the Hell Valley we see in the movie (should just be through George and Lorraine's POV) [It will be pretty short compared to Parts 1 and 2, I can already tell]. Part 4 will return to the main story with Marty accidentally creating Hell Valley and traveling there [meeting his alternate family and self] until he travels back to 1955 to fix it. Part 5 is him traveling back to 1955 to fix it lol.

As you can see theres so many details im leaving out but thats the general outline and you can follow it pretty easily with the knowledge of the movies. It's also subject to change. I might shorten it to 4 parts. It used to be 6 but I thought about it and decided to combine some things. Plot twist: we get 8 parts.

The gist is that its more focused on the McFly family so we're going to see more of Dave and Linda and how their lives changed throughout the 3 timelines, not just George and Lorraine. Marty also gets his own character arc too. From the beginning, not just from the second movie. So please bear with me as the characters might be a lil OOC... ima try to excuse it by saying its cuz I'm changing the rules of the franchise's universe a bit, but its up to your interpretation...

And I've never written anything before so a part of me is like bruh this is too ambitious what is goin on. But another part of me is like LESGOOOOO

Don't think I described the plot well AT ALL. Sorry. But... its basically just Back to the Future? Changes here and there. Some big, some smol. It really feels like fanfic in one of its most distilled states lmao. [A remake??? A re-imagining??? Zemeckis and Gale would hate me]

I just feel like itll take a while 😅 It's been about ~3 months since I've started working on it and I only have the first draft of part one and the rough draft of part two. But I'd say it's looking pretty good so far.

Sure thing! Preface that most of my games are ones i originally got over a decade ago. Most of them are also ones I've started but never finished lol. That being said i lovee ds games. I'm generally not a video game person, but ds ones are always so fun, even if i rarely play

So here's my animal games, all over a decade, except the lps one lol. I loooooved these bad boys! Played em all the time! Rip to my nintendogs tho lmao

Next some hidden object games. It's a shame most ds hidden object games are i spy, they're fun, but i much prefer ones in the style of millionheir. I don't have a physical copy, but i do have another game from the same company as millionheir. Ravenberg manor or something. If anyone has suggestions I'd def be interested!

So drawn to life 1 was actually one i just got recently w the lps game. The other games are my originals. I actually didn't know drawn to life 2 was a sequel for years. Loved the game, but was never able to get too far. I'll def have to play both. As for scribblenaughts, it's also a banger. SO good

I'm not into either of these franchises, but i like what little I've played of these games. They're fun

And surprising no one, some scooby doo games <3. They still play audio when you close the ds, and one time i accidentally left the top one on with a low volume on my bed. Left the room for a couple hours, came back, thought i heard someone slurping, only to realize it was the game. One of Scooby's idle animation was eating a chicken leg, that's what i was hearing lol

there is a quality to certain stories where you can tell this world was chewed over a thousand times by the author before the first chapter was written. but what im talking about is not just chewed over, for the quality im thinking of is often the case that the author has in fact written other stories in this world previously, maybe even with these very same characters.

there is a fullness to everything you encounter when you read these stories. the characters show up with a certain kind of iconic weight to them. they already are what they are supposed to be, they spring forth fully formed. the MCU for a while was the master at this. every time they introduced a "new" character to the franchise you could feel the weight of that character behind them, you could hear the drumroll, the trumpets, the fanfare. spiderman shows up in civil war and the soundtrack swells to let you know. yeah, this is the guy, you know the guy, you are aware of the 60 years of history behind this guy, you can sense the profound cultural weight of this guy here, he is almost like a sun, bending space and time and making everything orbit around them because of that weight.

now of course this is easy to do with characters like spiderman or wolverine or whatever. but the MCU would also manage to do this with guys that the general audiences were not familiar with, for whom the collective unconcious did not have quite as strong a grasp on. when they introduce t'challa for the first time, also in civil war, you know this guy means bussiness, you know this is a VIP. same thing when they introduce thanos in that avengers after credits scene. even if you dont read comics you are aware of the concept of comics having these big larger than life characters with thousands of stories to their name. when at the aftercredits of infinity war we see nick fury contact captain marvel, you might not know who the fuck carol danvers is but by the sheer fact that you know that logo has to have meaning, then it HAS meaning.

another great example of this is arcane. i imagine that to watch arcane if you are a fan of league of legends is quite the treat, but watching arcane without having any idea what is hextech, what is noxus or who he fuck is hermeindinger, is an experience. at every moment you see the camera linger on something, a completly mundane thing or a cool looking clock or a sword that is shaped in a more memorable way than others and you feel that tingle. that feeling of "this is something, im watching ancient runes imbued with ancient lore, there are old magics being invoked here"

but truly, the one medium that has done this multiple times to great success, and the one i want to put particular focus on, is webserials/web novels. i have already burned your ears off talking about these, i will quickly rattle off the typical examples, worm, after the hero, worth the candle.

what these have in common is that they are based on previous stories the authors were writing privately before, for years. and then polished and repackaged in a final form that works as a sorts of spinoff to all those stories that you never read. in a sense you are stepping into a huge franchise, as the title of this post says, "in media res".

now, naive wisdom would tell you this is a bad idea, right? imagine starting the lord of the rings in book two of the two towers. or starting a song of ice and fire in a storm of swords. or the dark tower series in the wasteland. it would be confusing, it would be annoying. you would be constantly feeling like you are missing out on stuff. you wouldnt be able to fully grasp the plot because you are trying to hastily reconstruct the events that happened before out of vague clues and references and in-jokes.

but i will say two things to this.

thing number one, quick tangent into my personal past, i was always a bit neurodivergent as a kid. never got properly diagnosed of anything but, whatever i had, it was strong enough that it made really hard for me to socialize with other kids. i remember going to primary school and being convinced that all my class mates already knew each other from kindergarden. people always seemed to find out about things through "the grapevine", whatever that was and i was always the last to find out. but even beyond that, being a kid is being thrown into the great history of humanity in media res and desperatly trying to keep up. after a while, out of sheer necessity, i learned to just sort of roll with the flow. to sort of act like you know what's going on simply because it made things easier. you learn to pick up things quickly from context clues and try not to ask too many questions.

remember this scene in rick and morty? i *did* laugh at the redgreen grumble reference, simply because i understood it was a reference to something and the instinct of trying to fit in kicked in.

thing number two, dialing back to the main topic, i have read stories starting on the middle book of a saga and actually quite enjoyed myself. the two greatest examples i can think of are the infinity code from the artemis fowl series and the dark flight down from the dead days series. they were written in such a way that, even if i didnt understand everything, by virtue of being children's books, they explained everything carefully and were filled with reminders of past events and the relationships between the characters.

and i think this is what these web stories do that makes them work, that makes them feel alive and lived in and its world well trodden without feeling confusing or overwhelming. its a tough needle to thread because, unlike with childrens books, you cant just stop the story and have the narrator infodump everything on your lap. if you want to do this with any kind of craft and artistry you have to make it seem seamless and organic. worm has taylor start the story with an essay about the story of capes and later uses the fact that she is a cape geek to make her long diatribes explaining who leet and uber are or what is an endbringer or what is alexandria's place in the world natural. in worth the candle there is the excuse that joon already knows the elements of his campaigns and so when he explains them he is actually sharing intel with his team. in prelude to after the hero... honestly i dont know what alchemy josh conjured, but somehow as i read the story and new characters where introduced it just felt like reuniting with old friends, and whatever we saw of ieik, it felt like going back to your childhood home, so props to that.

my point to all of this is that i really really enjoy this style of storytelling and i would love to see more of it. it makes everything feel so meaningful, behind every rock, every name, every place there could be a whole cool backstory you are not even aware of, behind every weird awkward phrase there could bee some profound in-joke or oblique reference. it makes everything pop when i am put in that mental space where i have to stay on my toes because i could be expected to be familiar with whatever is thrown my way.

of course it would be silly to demand that a writer writes an entire story, doesnt publish it and then writes a spinoff filled with references to the original book and then publishes that. and im not about to start reading books halfway on a series trying to capture that feeling because, as i said, this is the kind of thing that takes deliberate finesse to execute well.

but it is something i will keep my eyes open for.

i feel when they meet, despite being immortal beings that have experienced more than the human mind could ever comprehend, aziraphale and crowley react to an anthropomorphic talking blue hedgehog that’s suddenly falling into their world like any other human beings: they are TERRIFIED

well. terrified as one can be at 15 year old pubescent teenage hedgehog. because after their initial fear, they’re just. Fucking confused at him and his existence; how does a creature come to be in this world? they’d ask their respective sides if they didn’t want to deal with the mess that comes with it

sonic claims that he's “used to being isekaied” (“whatever that means,”crowley mumbles) and he’ll be “fine on his own” (“fine my arse!”) but aziraphale INSISTS that the lad has a roof under his bed because anthropomorphic hedgehog or not, he is NOT letting a teenager be homeless

sonic initially thinks aziraphale is kinda overbearing and crowley is way too overprotective bc like. He’s fine! hes dealt with situations more extreme than being transported to another world (my man (gender neutral) literally DIED & was tortured for 6 months straight in a war) yet hes getting help here; it almost feels like hes being looked down on and he does NOT appreciate it

he doesn’t reject their help but he’s not the most receptive either. whenever aziraphale tries to have tea breaks, he’s “away” (out on a run) or asleep (coincidentally the same time it’s tea time)

it’s only when aziraphale catches him browsing his books and jovially gives him a few book recommendations of his own (because bookworms never have just One Rec) that he lets the two in. it’s when he starts to genuinely like the two

one fact that goes untalked about is that sonic is an AVID reader. like. my hedgehog canonically has read WAR AND PEACE in the wreck it ralph 2 movie. so getting his own personal recommendation from aziraphale means a lot. he can not only have new literature but better understand aziraphale as a being—not angel or demon, but just being. book recs can say a lot about a person after all

eventually accumulates to aziraphale bonds and sonic bonding over books. aziraphale loves giving him recommendations—but ironically, has to slow down for him bc my speedy boy (gender neutral) is what i hc as a slow reader (opposite of a bookworm).

in essence, aziraphale adjusts his reading speed accordingly so sonic can keep up with him, much like sonic does for his friends (tails). something something parallels <3 they have tea and biscuits when they’re done with a book and discuss it together. aziraphale loooves talking about the deep meanings of things, while sonic enjoys listening to him. he also listens to aziraphale talk about book bindings and smile, simply bc it reminds him of his home (wherever his friends are: tails)

crowley sees all this bonding and is secretly like 🥺🥺 bc it’s not often u see aziraphale so. Doting in regards to his special interest (books, especially book collections) so he gets sonic more books for him to read. or in aziraphale’s case, keep in his bookstore. sonic isn’t much of a hoarder so he’s like. “you can sell them when i’m done” but both are too attached to the symbolism

This ask just gives me an excuse to write more infomation about my WIPS and AUS! All of which are open for asks, I love talking about my writing and my little gremlin OC Jay and the polycule!

Till death do us part, please keep breaking my heart ['Til it ceases to beat, please be mine.]: My hungbucks fic that is currently leaning towards more romantic hangmatt and platonic hangnick. However I am currently unsure what way it is going to go. A look at the Bucks and Hangers relationship just after Hanger wins the AEW world title and Kennny disappears. Its highly implied that Kenny had a relationship with both Hanger and the Bucks because he totally did. Can you read it? Yes the first two chapters are currently up on AO3]

Writing Requests: Yes, I take writing requests! I have one that im currently working on but my requests are open so ive any of my followers or just people who see my tumblr advertised on AO3 [I sometimes mention it in my notes] and gone "damn I wish you would write X thing" drop it into my askbox and maybe I will, I mostly unsprisingly wrie for AEW/WWE at the moment and I will not write X readers but if you ever want that, I can suggest some people who do write fantastic X reader fics! The soulmate actor Au A look at Jay [OC] and their boyfriends and girlfriend through the lense of them all being soulmates. None of them wrestle. Wheeler and Jay work in a theatre, Kenny is an artist, Hanger is a western actor star and Cole is an a-list trans femme superstar who the elite happen to just use to fuck.

The pandemic really brought out the horror nerd in me. I've enjoyed horror for years, an interest my household does not share. Time to work through my to watch list was limited and options seemed scarce. The absolute gift of work from home meant I had so much more time for my media.

A key thing to know is that I consider the collection of stories like a particularly literate crow as a special interest. I watch and enjoy many things. A lot of it isn't good! I don't require it to be good, as long as I can enjoy it and pull it apart like a roast chicken. Some stories, however, are Great.

I really enjoy looking for that spark in movies horror movies. So I watch emotional, gorgeous, fuckin weird movies and then I have big big feels about them. I've found myself digging through movie synopses before and after viewings and combing through everything I can find about it. I personally saw this as not wanting to miss anything and looking for concrete plot resolution. After delivering the equivalent of verbal essays to everyone who'd listen I realized I was doing research. Sort of like how you'd prep for a paper.

When I broke up with college, I felt like I'd never enjoy reading again. I'd never want to write another paper, or dig around for quotes. At one point, I loved those things. Stories are always at the center of my world, how I observe and reflect them is what changes. So maybe dusting off my unfinished Enflish degree will be fun, and maybe my audience will enjoy the info dumps.

This will never be a spoiler free experience for me. I don't want to be coy about the ending or important scenes. I am going to be writing the kind of things I enjoy finding when I'm rooting around in a movie.

but in terms of smaller stuff, a silver the hedgehog plushie would be really nice. or a bunch of high-quality loose paper for using on my typewriter (all i have is sketchbooks and i don't like ripping them apart). maybe a proper dip pen, or a fountain pen with a flexible nib?? that would be really nice. i would also love to have a complete set of splatoon squid cushions, i have three but i would love to have all the colors in the original splatoon 1 run of them! or misc splatoon amiibo i don't have (octolings, squid sisters, the splatoon 3 amiibo)

YEAHHH im liking it so far! if u dont know about it yet then once you learn the lore about the chaos emeralds specifically you'll see what i mean by the amount of inspiration sonic takes from dragonball LOLLL

my #1 recs for sonic will always be the games - for the majority of the series, sonic isnt really the type of thing where you absolutely Have to start from the beginning to understand its stories so u can just start anywhere! my personal favorites are both of the adventure games (especially 2), frontiers, generations and unleashed. the adventure series were the first 3d sonic games and where story started being more upfront. frontiers is the most recent and its story actually builds up on the chaos emerald lore in a way they hadnt done in decades. (this one has 2 prologues! the knuckles animation, divergence, and the comic tie-in, convergence.) generations is the one getting a remaster + new story content with shadow this october BUT the original game's story is very light and it's basically just a real nice glorified collection of levels from past games. i havent actually played unleashed since i was a kid (i might again soon) but this is the one with werehog sonic. its story is one of my favorites :)

im not much of a classic/2d player but i had fun with mania! origins is a collection of the classics that i havent played but ive heard it's pretty good and has a mechanic that makes losing lives less punishing than the originals. sonic 1, 2 and cd also have free mobile ports. the murder of sonic the hedgehog is also free on steam, it's a cute and casual little murder mystery visual novel and a real nice introduction to the cast of secondary characters!

(honorary mention goes to fangame dr. robotnik's ring racers, it's a pretty hard kart racer with a bunch of mechanics to memorize but is real fun once you get the hang of it and the tutorial has real cute interactions between eggman and tails. modding characters into this game is pretty easy and ive been working on putting in an oc of mine lol. this game is a sequel to sonic robo blast 2 kart, which is a mod for 1998(!) fangame sonic robo blast 2. another one i like is sonic and the fallen star, a 2d/classic style fangame with a cute artstyle and i know it has a sequel in the works!)

outside of games theres the idw comics! these take place after forces (the game before frontiers) but i think they establish an understanding of prior events pretty well that, again, u wouldn't Need to know everything before reading them. the archie comics are a beast i havent personally touched much of, they ran from 1993-2017 so theres a lot to them LOL

out of all the sonic shows and movies, sonic boom, the sonic ova (also known as the OG sonic movie) and sonic x are my favorites. all of these have super different takes on the world sonic lives in - boom is a silly little sitcom series w really funny meta humor, the ova is a 1996 pilot for an anime series that never happened, and sonic x is an anime series that DID happen where sonic is actually from a different world and gets isekaied to earth. (i recommend jp with subs for this one)

I THINK THATS IT...... i could keep going and be here all day but i will leave it here. theres way more stuff u naturally find getting into the series! the thing i like most about sonic is that i personally think theres something in the franchise for everyone. i hope all this info isnt too intimidating cause truly u can take this series at ur own pace. i hope u have fun anon ^__^

No! Movies like "Migration" are not flopping because they're Original IPs! (Rant)

So Illuminations most recent movie, "Migration", did not have that great of an opening weekend, making it another original animated movie not based off any IPs that failed at the Box Office like Wish, Elementals and Ruby Gilman Teenage Kraken. And because of this, I've seen lots of people get worried because this means audiences might not be interested in original and that studios might use these flops as an excuse to be more lazy and bank of existing franchises in the future. And while that last worry is a valid concern, that conclusion that audiences are not interested in original works is just completely dumb. In my opinion, the reason these movies flopped are not because they're original. Its because they were not interesting enough.

What are a couple of reasons why you would want to go to a theatre and see a movie, instead of waiting for it to come to streaming or dvd? Usually it comes down to your movie's premise. If your premise is strong, your story is going to get a lot more eyes on it. First impressions matter and if you don't give off a good first impression, its going to be a lot harder to convince people to give your thing attention. If you look at the trailers for movies like Oppenhiemer, Barbie and the few movies that did well this year, all of them gave very good impressions into what the movie would be like and it strong enough to bring people to watch their movies in the theater. In comparison, the 4 original animated works that were released this year didnt have that. Ruby Gilman just seemed like a cookie cutter adventure movie for kids, not bad but too generic to be memorable. That and it had a really awful art style, Im sorry. It probably would've worked much better in 2d but in 3d it did not look good. Elementals looked like a typical Pixar movie and where you have a forbidden romance between a fire girl and lava girl because *gasp* elements cant mix. If you asked an AI to come up with a generic Pixar plot, this movie would be the product of it. Wish is an interesting case because while it did have the moniker of commemorating Disney's 100th Anniversary movie to celebrate it, what really brought it down was how it looked way more unpolished than they're previous 3D movies, the really bad villian song, the missed opportunity to have it be in 2D (which honestly would've been way more eyecatching because we have not seen a traditional hand drawn Disney movie since 2009), and most general audiences being fed up with the house of Mouse this year. I find it really ironic that the year turned 100 ended up being one of their worst years finanicially. And Migration felt like one of those safe family adventure movies that would be straight to video and not be out of place in a collection of various animated dvds you had at your parents place.

Now I should make things clear that I have not seen any of these movies. I'm just going off the first impressions I got from the trailers and premises from these movies, and not from the actual story or characters. For example, I have heard that Elementals might have a lot more to it than what the trailers gave off so dont take this the wrong way. Then again, I have not heard good things about Wish and Ruby Gilman so maybe I might be on the nose a little bit. But do you see where Im getting at here? If my first impressions of these movies were poor, than what about the impressions of most general audiences? The fact these movies are original ips are irrelevant, if you're premise is not strong enough than no one's going to see your movie! That's why Im get annoyed when I see people think these movies being original are the reason why people are not seeing them. Like it doesn't matter if your movie doesn't come off as being good. And while I can get behind the fear of studios seeing these flops and double down on more souless cash grabs of IPs, its like those types of movies are doing well either. FastX, the new Mission Impossible movie, and pretty much 3/4th of Disney's line up this year (cuz their lazy) have not preformed well at the box office despite being franchises people are familiar with. Because when it comes down to it, all audiences want to see are good movies, with good stories and compelling characters and plots! Like look at Guardians 3! Sure its a franchise movie but its a really good story and possibly one of the last good movies Marvel will ever make. Hell, even that movie initially struggled due to oversaturated and bad most MCU entries have become. Sure, can souless cash grabs be successful purely because of familiarity and nothing else? Of course, but there comes a point where that method being as effective. Take Disney's Live Action remakes, which were really successfully in the late 2010s but stopped post 2020 due to more and more people see how lazy these movies are.

This is why I think we need to shift the discussion away from "original movies good, franchise movies bad" to "good movies good, bad movies bad". It doesn't matter if your movie is a sequel or a whole new original story, if its good, people will see it. Now there are exceptions where movies that regarded as classics now like Iron Giant and Treasure Planet were financial failures upon their releases. And I know that a movie financial success is not indicative of its quality, like Disney's lazy live action remakes for example. But this notion that a movie being original automatically makes it worth watching is just misguided I feel like. Because being original doesn't stop you from feeling and looking generic and derivative. Does it suck movies like Ruby Gilman didn't do well at the box office? Yeah but was anyone actually excited from the trailers? That's pretty much all I gotta say about this topic. Let me know what you guys think?

I apologize for not getting back to you for a little while. It took me some time to type all of this out and make sure it was somewhat concise.

Fun Facts About the Author:

I’ve been writing/telling stories for as long as I can remember.

I was obsessed with reading until I was about thirteen, when I began to get more serious about creative writing.

The franchises and books that were partial to me when I was a kid have influenced all my works, whether accidentally or on purpose. This means that if we’ve ever had a fandom in common, you will most likely know due to the way I write or the events that take place/characters I have in my works. While I’ve never directly copied a character from an existing work into one of my original ones, I tend to take a trait that I liked from the original character and tweak it, using said trait as a base for one of my characters.

Alright, onto the meat of this post. Get some popcorn and a drink, we’re going to be here for a while.

The WIP With No Name

I started this WIP all the way back in high school. It’s certainly not my best work, but I was proud of it at the time.

I’ve since updated it to fit the times (and another WIP I helped with at one point), but it’s still not perfect and most likely never will be.

It has three instalments, the last of which is still unfinished. I am unsure where to take the plot, but I’m quite close to figuring it out. After I’ve officially finished all three instalments, I plan to rework it.

The cast for this series is quite large, which is one of the problems, as I cannot develop all the characters in it properly for the length that fits it best.

This series is about a young girl who finds herself to be the outcast in many places outside of school. She’s adopted and doesn’t have the best relationship with her parents (especially her father). Her cousin is jealous of her ability to summon demons better than she can. The whole demon-summoning thing starts the protagonist down a long and dark path, getting more corrupt with every being she hosts.

I do not associate any songs with this WIP.

“You thinking about your parents again?” he asked, not letting go.

            “Yeah…”

            “Don’t worry. I know it’s hard.”

            “I know I’m adopted, but…does that really make me unwanted? Why do they never seem to have time for me? Am I that bad? Do they just want to use me for insurance or something? Did I do something?”

            “Henriette!”

“Sydney, don’t tell me what to do! I’m just sharing my ideas. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a free country, right?”

            “Who taught you that phrase? You’re eight!”

            “You, dingus. Remember?”

            “Oh yeah. Sorry.”

“You’re going to kill me anyway. I might as well stall you for as long as I can before you kill everyone else I know too. You’re making things easier by using weapons, you know. Are they just for show, or are you more human than demon? Something seems off about you. Are you sure Henriette’s not the one in control? Besides, what’s up with these weapons? None of them make any sense to be together, unless you’re actually just somebody who runs tabletop RPGs. I mean, that’s cool with me, I did that once. Actually, it would explain a lot of things about you. You seem like the type of guy to railroad your players though, and I don’t respect that. Do you run tabletop RPGs? You should. You could, like, give your players a better experience by, like, actually showing them the areas they’re in and the monsters they’re fighting. I think it would be good for you,” Elliot babbled, not entirely sure of what he was saying anymore.

“What-”

“Yeah, if you want help getting players or setting up a story or something, I’m your guy! I’ve done this stuff before, so I can give you some help or advice, whatever you need. Don’t hesitate to ask!” Elliot grinned, inching past Hadeon and slowly backing into the hallway. Hadeon watched him as he walked by, a puzzled expression on his face.

“I-”

“WELL IT WAS NICE KNOWING YOU, BYEEEEE!” Elliot shrieked as he sprinted down the hall, through the first room, and out the metal door, dropping the whip as he ran.

In other words, the “Look Ma, the WIP with a title!” one.

While there is a title, it’s only a working one. It always seemed a bit long, but it’s the one on my list that fits the story best.

I started this WIP a few years ago (can’t recall how many as of now) as a collection of poems.

I’ve been slowly turning the list of poems into a novel, and hopefully it’ll be better than my last WIP. If it’s not, I’ll throw my microwave out my window. (I won’t actually do that, I just want a WIP that’s not entirely trash. I desperately need to improve my writing skills.)

This WIP is similar to the last in terms of the protagonist and their development, but the plot is completely different. The protagonist is almost entirely forsaken by members of society and has an awful relationship with her cousin. However, instead of bringing beings from other worlds into hers, she falls into another dimension, one full of different deities. She finds love there and is slowly corrupted to her lover’s liking. How charming!

Some songs I associate with this WIP include Sway With Me by Saweetie & GALXARA, Me and the Devil by Soap&Skin, and Feed the Machine by Poor Man’s Poison.

It stung as it hit my skin. It stung even more as I felt the object reposition itself and pump my veins full of the substance I wasn’t allowed to see. I could imagine it being somewhat viscous, like thinned paint. I didn’t know what colour it was, but I thought of it as something dark and dreary, like old mauve or hunter green. Maybe even a deep plum or navy. No, navy was too unnatural. What’s navy coloured other than a boring prep school’s uniform?

I found everything I loved in that aroma. Roses. Pine trees. Tomatoes. Old books. Sawdust. Smoked gouda.

Oh boy, this is always either the WIP I have to do the most explaining for or the one I explain the least about, for the same reason.

This WIP is one that I’ve worked on consistently for seven years. Well, I’ve worked on three of the characters for eight, but not the actual story.

This WIP is the closest to completion and takes the form of an analog horror series. A partner and I (who has asked to remain anonymous on Tumblr) are working on producing it together, though the original story is mine.

I don’t want to spoil too much, but the first instalment is up on YouTube, and for its purpose, it looks great.

This WIP follows my foolproof formula of “idiot does something stupid and pays the price for it, as does everyone else”.

There isn’t much else I can share about this WIP, as I don’t want to spoil too much (in other words, I actually am posting this entire one).
