over the last 2 weeks, i've seen countless patients walk into my urgent care center, symptomatic for so many things, refusing to get tested for covid and flu, citing that they don't want to knowingly bring it to their holiday tables. i had a patient tell me, verbatim, "i don't want to test for covid, because i don't want to be the asshole who brings it on a plane."

i understand that - i understand that holidays are times where people look forward to meeting loved ones that they might only see once a year, or where they get a break from the hectic back and forth of their lives.

but here's the thing - whether they get tested or not, they will bring whatever they have to their holiday tables. it's pure recklessness to know that you're sick, and walk into someone else's house spreading the disease.

today, january 2, i saw 91 patients, many of them who have tested positive for covid and flu. many of these patients are the same ones who didn't want testing 3 days ago, until their events were over, and now, they will have to reach out to everyone they know to let them know that they were positive because they were showing symptoms well before their event.

the next week or two? we're going to see many, many more, all people with symptoms that started around christmas. these are the only two viruses we test for rapidly in our office, but they are potent and can be fatal in many people.

so here's why i wrote this post, and maybe it's a little late, but - if you care about your loved ones, please get tested if you know you're sick. it doesn't have to be at a clinic if you don't want it to, because the over-the-counter tests work just fine too (if you test within 5-7 days of symptom onset). just...please don't try to run from the knowledge that you might have covid, because immunocompromised people, elderly people, people with co-morbidities like asthma, pregnancy, diabetes, etc...many of them may not recover. and they may not be sitting at your holiday table in the future because of it.

I'm in many leftist spaces and I've seen many goyim in these spaces complaining about how often jews talk about leftist antisemitism.

The thing is that this is the consequence of claiming to be advocates or in support of another group of people - when you ostensibly prove you aren't for us, we're going to be harsher than we are to people who never pretended in the first place.

For an analogy, here's a similar situation: I am harsher toward "pro-trans" people who are transphobic than I am to people who are not. This is because the pro-trans person told me they were better than that. I am already aware that the anti-trans person is going to be anti-trans. Their anti-transness is self-evident. What isn't self-evident is a person who claims to be pro-trans and then proves otherwise.

This post is addressed toward leftist spaces because I occupy these spaces the most. It makes me wonder just how safe I am in these spaces when leftist begrudgingly acknowledge that this conversation keeps happening. I feel like a lot of leftists treat those of us who open these conversations like we're an "I left the left" rightist when... Most of us are still in leftist spaces. We have not left the left and through pretending we have, you absolve yourself the feeling of responsibility.

I WAS GOING TO MAKE A COMIC BUT ARG HAVE THE TEXT VERSION

For the Ancients... PV was *supposed* to tell them about Smilks pregnancy. He was GOING to tell them. But turns out Smilk gets a LOT worse, attitude wise, and basically.. All his time was spent on Smilk ( for the first 3 months it was just Smilk absolutely abusing his Pregnancy Status. Think: "I can't believe you won't let me do this, I'm carrying your child! " basically having PV wrapped around his pinkie. After that? The pregnancy actually hit him like a bus. Funs over, now he needed PV for real)

For the last 2 months of Smilks pregnancy, he basically didn't speak to any other ancient. All communication stopped. But that's not too far from the ordinary when it comes to PV, so no one questioned it.

Until he strode into a meeting with a babe swaddled to his chest.

First, the ancients were confused. Is he babysitting? Such a young cookie? Maybe. But then again her icing seemed oddly familiar to Vanilla's (minus the slight blue undertones.) So, of course, they asked who's she was. "Why, mine of course! This is Lemon Meringue Cookie." he'd say with a bright smile.

Then they'd be offended. No one is surprised PV got.. Busy.. With someone so soon, but not even introduce them to the mother? That was uncharacteristic. They didn't even know he was courting anyone! And so they voice their concerns. And then PV's face scrunches as he thinks. "Oh. I seemed to have forgot to send the letters. My apologies. Shadow Milk Cookie became a whole lot more.. Demanding, once he got pregnant."

Oh the silence that followed. All eyes on Pure Vanilla. They just stared at each other, PV shuffling in place, uncomfortable. At once, the table erupted. Hollyberry was the first to speak: "She's adorable!" Golden Cheese's face seemed both disgusted and impressed: "You bed the Beast of Deceit?!". Dark Cacao threw a hand in the air. "What were you thinking, Pure Vanilla Cookie?!"

Hollyberry was also the first to stand up and coo over the little Lemon nested against her father. She was already singing the little Cookie's praises. PV warned against touching her - not that he didn't trust his friends, it was just that Smilk took issue with it. Says she'd smell weird if they touched her. PV couldn't tell if it was a joke or not.

Golden Cheese joined her, but instead of praise she scrutinized the little bug. "She's going to have your nose, poor thing." though her tone was fond.

Dark Cacao remained seated, brows furrowed. He wasn't sure of this.. Decision PV made without consulting any of them. He was skeptical, worried PV was getting manipulated. Worried PV will fail to take action when time comes, simply because Smilk gave him a child. So he voiced his concerns. And PV listened, and nodded and agreed with his friend. He already knew - of course he did, spending so much time with Smilk - and he was prepared for the worst. From one father to another, they shared wordless acknowledgedment. "..She is rather adorable." DC said, also joining the circle around the babe.

I'll do the beasts some other time idk, it would be a lot less interesting though. Mostly just "Nah nah guys this is all a part of my plan dw. This has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that PV knows How To Get It On and its hard not to say yes to his breeding kink guys I swear. listen, I think audiobooks are great. I think they "count". I'm not bothered by people calling listening to audiobooks reading. however, I think a large part of the reason people are annoyed by this recently is that there are many, many people online saying, "I've read 300 books this year" and then posting a lot of stuff implying they are superior to (or like to read more than) people who haven't.

But then, all it takes is to scroll back on their profile a little ways to find out that they "read" 300 books because they listened to audiobooks on 3x speed while they were doing other things and flat out didn't listen or absorb any of it and couldn't tell you what 90% of those books were about even if their life depended on it. And THAT is not reading. If you're actually taking in the story, sure, then you've read the book. If you're speed running the process without paying attention, then no, that's not reading. I would say the exact same thing about skimming/flipping through the book.

ok i think what it comes down to is that. buck and tommy is not a particularly good or interesting relationship. it's pretty on par with bucks previous relationships. it's below buck and abby, who buck was in love with and who broke his heart. it's below buck and taylor, who were actually close and who exchanged I love yous and were looking pretty endgame for a while. buck and tommy dated for a few months, had an ok relationship, broke up, then had a drunken hookup that ended in buck saying some pretty out of pocket stuff. there's no big compelling love story there. and I understand taking a ship that's one thing on paper and enjoying the version of it that you and a fanbase have created in your minds (WHO among us has not partaken in that pasttime). but where we get this big fanatic fanbase insisting that this is a lovestory for the ages comes from is the fact that it is two men in a canonic relationship on tv. which like.... listen it is not 2012 anymore where we were scrounging in the bottom of the bin for scraps from like german soap operas for canon gay rep (i know, i was there). you can actually hold gay relationships on shows to a higher standard. you don't have to imagine this epic lovestory is hiding behind this milquetoast failed relationship. and of course the argument to this is well you're imagining an epic lovestory behind buddie that's not there. but man, there's 7 years of love and dedication and partnership there. like there is MEAT on them bones. and if it ever went canon, it would be a slowburn will-they-wont-they on a big procedural show with a queer relationship, which as far as I know has never been done. there's something to be invested in there. the arguments im seeing that people have to like buck tommy because it's a canon gay ship and therefore must be a good love story or else youre homophobic is so... absurd. sometimes gay relationships are just mediocre. sometimes they're bad. not every gay relationship on your tv screen should be treated like a precious rare commodity that we need to shut up and be grateful for.

i love the potential tragedy of jadzia's death but whyyy is the entire episode leading up to it written to revolve solely on her as an object of desire for other men. like oh yes it's so sad that these men who pined for her never got to be with her and it's so tragic that she could never have a child with this man. so much that her dying words are about how much she wanted to have a baby with him!!

like... this episode didn't even try to be about jadzia. or what her death could mean for her symbiont. or her friends. it's literally just about her potential as a woman. the only scene we get about her as a character is sisko's speech to her at the end. and that honestly sucks! you could have done so much with this and instead it's all about fucking quark and bashir and worf. and as much as i love them THIS IS NOT ABOUT THEM!!!

No, my frustration with Rook's characterization isn't that there are limitations to a video games PC. It's that there are scant options to RP in the RPG and fewer options to make choices beyond 'do you want to do this quest y/n?' in a game series which previously bent over backwards to explore the idea of how far is too far for the greater good.

No, my frustration with the way the world seems to have changed is not that the there is a change or even that those changes are underexplained. It's that those changes feel more like reboots that don't want to continue the narrative of the previous games. Sure, the differences in the Crows could be chocked up to a differences in the Houses, or the change in how Circles are described could be because how the Mage-Templar war ended but A) that's never actually addressed or even lamp shaded B) the worldstate removal means that the changes can't be a consequence for past actions because it happened regardless of whatever occurred in the last three games!

No, the number of times the word 'okay' is used doesn't inherently make the game poorly written. The change in the writing voice, anachronist word choices, and flattening of characters into marvel quip speak is just best quantified by word choice.

Perhaps most frustratingly, No, my trans ass isn't somehow scandalized by the mere existence of a nonbinary person. There is plenty of transphobic bs being flung at the game, at Taash, and at the devs but acting like being critical of how Taash is written is exclusively due to transphobia just isn't true and it does boil my blood just a little when I see a post claiming that everyone critical of Taash's character is antitrans.
