i’m always thinking that sam is constantly being left alone, either by choice (steve) or as a consequence of death (riley, nat, his mother and father), like until tfatws where he lived with sarah, every time he is on screen or mentioned he is alone, since the moment we meet him. in dc when he meets steve, in age of ultron he mentions looking for bucky alone, in infinity war he is snapped alone and when he comes back what he receives from steve is a job (it is honoring but it’s a job) and leaves him to deal with it alone because at the time bucky also left and ignored sam when he tried to reach for him.
like most of sam’s interactions with other ppl until tfatws was ppl needing him and he helping them. like for someone as outgoing as sam, he had few real friends and even fewer deep connections— and even the friends he has were formed by sam trying to help them (isaiah) or taking care of them (joaquin) and ppl talk a lot about how bucky found himself someone that can fly after his trauma of falling but sam found someone that will stay with him, no matter what. like bucky’s ass is not leaving, he goes out of his way to make sure sam is okay, promises to always be there, says sam can call him anytime, but i bet my left tiddie he doesn’t even need to cause the moment sam is not okay bucky is there (that’s not even me saying, that canon!) but more importantly in bucky sam found a relationship where he is not always giving something of himself like he always is but actually receiving the love and support he is constantly giving other ppl

Was just hit with the image of Bucky being hurt in a fight and someone trying to get his blood type off of his dog tags, only to pull them out and realize he's been wearing Sam's tags this whole time

headcanon that the reason walkers shield is still a taco 14 months later is because everytime they have a mission or something one of them finds a way to get it bent back into taco form. it’s become an inside joke at this point, no matter what the mission is (even the most mundane to the most important) the thunderbolts will find a way to taco-fy walkers shield. routine “stopping bad guy in brooklyn” mission? oops, john threw the shield at the same moment that bucky just so happened to be crashing a truck into a building and the shield was caught in the crossfire. “gotta go stop some bank robbers” mission? damn, yelena didn’t mean for the shield to get used to wedge open the door, john! it just started bending like that! sorry!
and even when they’re not on a mission, they’ll find a way to revert the shield to its taco glory as soon as walker manages to fix it. one second it’s sitting on the work bench and the next ava has stolen it away and is currently using the combined force of alexei and bucky to bend the shield into its beautiful ultimate taco form again. walker takes his eyes off it for one minute and yelena has already got it to bob to sentry-style warp the thing into the taco. no matter how important their day to day lives are, if the shield begins the day as a circle it will be a taco by nightfall.

two best explanations for why a ship is canon:
1. *detailed analysis of each on-screen interaction, breaking down dialogue exchanges, pointing out every single microexpression, identifying metaphors for a romantic relationship, reading between the lines, presenting theories with supporting evidence from the canon material*
2. "have you seen them they literally eye-fuck every time they're in the same space"

No, the captain America mantle should not be thrown around like a hot potato during Doomsday, are you stupid?
Only time Captain America should ever be named in the movie is if someone is trying to get Sam Wilson’s attention.
The only other acceptable names to address Sam include “Cap” “Captain Wilson”
I hear you suggest any bullshit like that again, I’m coming at you with a shovel.

i think the reason why thunderbolts works so well is that the team is like 80% legacy heroes/ knock off avengers but they’re all old enough to remember when princess diana died
#don’t get me wrong I love my kid heroes#Kamala khan and Kate bishop my beloveds#but it’s actually quite fun to have a cast of characters grappling with carrying (or failing to carry) a legacy#but they can also like vote and stuff#rather than greatness being thrust upon them they’ve had to actively choose it#not like a kid ‘answers the call’ but a grown up going ‘god fucking dammit fine’#some in memory of loved ones (yelena/bucky)#others coming to terms with the fact they’ll never be the OG (John walker)#(I’d put red guardian with John too but he’s having too much fun to be burdened by it)#even Bob - he’s literally supposed to be a whole avengers team at once#but he’s also a grown man#a troubled dude in need of a support system but very much an adult#the only exception is ghost#but she’s still a grown woman trying to figure out where she fits but in a ‘30 something still flat sharing’ kind of way#in fact I’d argue the reason why she sticks out a bit in the cast is her character doesn’t quite have the same legacy to live up to#but she still has common ground as a fellow human experimentation/ childhood trauma survivor thing#idk there’s an interesting emotional maturity to the cast even when they’re bickering and quipping and feeling the big sad#tldr I like it when legacy hero’s are less starry eyed/teen angsty and more ‘okay okay I guess I’ll have to do it Jesus Christ’#brb gonna go have some thoughts about where mcu Sam Wilson fits in all this#mcu#thunderbolts#spoilers#actually not sure if Bucky remembers when lady di died technically but you get my point

3k words // pairing: bucky barnes & sam wilson
—⎊—
“Bucky had no right. No right to drop something that heavy and then disappear before Sam could make sense of it. No right to leave him alone with the words ringing in his ears, no right to say ‘I love you' like a death sentence. No right to mean it.”
or: Sam and Bucky have a long-overdue conversation, though the exchange isn’t exactly overflowing with words.

Hey, why are so many of you pretending that you don’t know that there are two related, yet different, problems happening at once:
Yes, we understand that the new avengers aren’t particularly accepted by the public within universe, it was obvious, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s actually absurd that this team even exists within the marvel cinematic universe lol. Also, it’s extra nonsensical that Bucky would even agree to be on this team. It makes him look like a bad friend, and a person with questionable character. Bucky chose to work with Walker, who tried to kill his best friend, Sam, and is still running around in a way that undermines and tarnishes Sam’s legacy, and he’s working with him on a team funded by (and likely controlled by, despite whatever nonsense Yelena says or thinks) the lady who is actively trying to hurt Wakanda, the same lady he was supposed to help Congressman Gary bring to justice.
Bucky is betraying everyone who has ever helped him by willingly being on this team. And, yes, he is doing it willingly. He could shut this shit down at any moment, he just doesn’t want to, and that makes him a crappy friend. Even if it turns out later that he has a “good” or “legitimate” reason for working with Walker and Val and other people who openly disrespect his friends, if he’s not telling those friends the reasons, it still makes him a crappy friend 🤷🏾‍♀️ And, again, he’s also a person of questionable character because why would he agree to work with any team, not just controlled by the government, but by the head of the CIA at that??!!
The other thing is actually more important and upsetting, but can be explained far more succinctly: TPTB at Disney/Marvel are feeding into, and even encouraging, their racist fans by sidelining Sam Wilson and other Black characters and characters of color, even if they’re doing it for “the plot.” These execs are not stupid, they know how their fandom is, and they know how they’ll react to things like the Tbolts PCS and ad campaign. They’re egging on the Not My Cap crowd with the writing and current direction of the MCU, and I don’t believe they don’t know it.
Listen, let me give you an example: Every time John’s time as Captain America was referenced, every time someone mocked him for it or whatever, even though they were making fun of him, nobody ever mentioned Sam. During all, or even one of those instances, somebody could’ve said: “well, Sam Wilson is Captain America, not you,” or something like that, but they didn’t. In fact, as a viewer it felt like they were going out of their way to not say who Captain America is, to not say Sam’s name. It was weird and jarring. Then, when they finally did mention his name, it was to basically make him the butt of the joke, and they did it in a way that they had to have known would cause the MCU fandom, especially Bucky stans, to attack Sam.
Look, none of this is unintentional, and y’all have to start acknowledging it. It’s silly to pretend you don’t know what people are complaining about.

Bucky “won” Steve’s shield in a game of poker in 1944. It’s been Bucky’s shield ever since. Steve’s just borrowing it.
Steve: throws himself into enemy fire with the shield.
Bucky, sipping coffee: “Technically, that’s mine.”
Steve: “You lost the next hand.”
Bucky: “And? You didn’t have anything else worth wagering.”
Flash forward to modern day, and Bucky still calls it his shield. Sam asks to hold it and Bucky just goes, “Sure, but be careful- it’s a family heirloom.
The Smithsonian plaque says “Captain America’s Shield,” but Bucky whispers “mine” every time he walks past it.
