Three entries to Merch Monday this week!
The first is a set of prints from @cactuskhee, who has a tumblr but isn't really active - its better to keep an eye on her Twitter to see when her store (komahina.com) opens! I only ordered the Junko/Miu print but Khee sent along extras for me which was SO sweet of her. (And the exclusive prom group art, which I was hoping SO BAD to get!!) The print with both girls is a little stiffer than others I've bought, which made it more susceptible to bending - if you look reeeeally closely you can see where my scissors brushed against the edge while I opened it and it got a little wrinkled. The products themselves are super high quality, just be careful opening them!
The Kaede/Maki stickers are from RegrettableMonster on Etsy! These came with a note to be careful peeling them, and it was definitely right; these are some really thin stickers! I didn't have any significant problems though, and they shipped SUPER fast, especially considering how inexpensive they were! This is another one that has several ship options - Saimatsu, Tojouma, Kiiouma, Training Trio, Gonta/Kokichi, Saimami, Oumota, and Saiouma are the others listed, but you can request unlisted ships, too! (EDIT: These stickers peeled up pretty hard over time! Since they're so cheap, it makes sense, but it's something to keep in mind.)
The third entry snuck in an hour before this post was queued, and it's my RedBubble stickers! RedBubble takes a pretty big chunk from earnings before the artists get to make anything, so I try to buy in bulk when possible, or at least more than one at a time. The first page of stickers is from @chibigaia-art, the second is from @trillmunch, and the third is from @jolee! These are pretty big stickers, so make sure you check the dimensions when ordering it. If you want a link to any of these stickers in particular, let me know!

I love your art & your style! I’m also an artist & I want to be a full time artist one day, but I'm not sure how that may look, so.. Do you do art full time? If so how does it look for you personally?

hi!! i feel like this is gonna be a long answer so i'm gonna put this under a read more haha
so being an artist full time looks different from one artist to another---there's so many different ways artists can support themselves, some methods i don't even know about! keep that in mind, as the stuff that i'm doing right now isn't the Only way to do art full time :)
right now i'm doing art full time-i'm in a weird sort of spot where i either need to just Commit and really pursue art full time, or get a job...but that latter has proven difficult with my mental health, so either i'm gonna stay full time, or get a part time job once i see a psychiatrist LOL. i'm in a very fortunate spot where my rent is cheap (for the city i live in) and my parents are able to hypothetically help me with that if i were to ever need it, so that's certainly a factor in how i went from graduating -> freelancing. (i did also work a full time job back in july/august, and that money has helped me with doing art full time too).
my main income is through commissions---i've been doing album covers mostly, but i think for the future i want to explore getting an agent and representation so i can start doing bigger jobs like book covers and that sort of thing. i don't loooooove doing commissions to be honest---i love my clients, especially the ones who i've worked with over and over again, they mean the world to me---but in terms of actual fulfillment through art, i don't feel super fulfilled doing that. so long term, i'd ideally like to not take on as much commission work, or at least only do the stuff that i'm really excited about, y'know?
along side that i have some other "passive" income (i put passive in quotes because there's obviously still work that goes into setting them up lol), mainly my inprnt shop and instagram reels. inprnt has been a HUGE lifesaver because i don't have to ship any of the prints myself, and the profit margin's a lot bigger than other print-on-demand services like redbubble (it's not perfect; you have to wait a month for transactions to clear, and there's a certain threshold you have to make before you can withdraw the money...and it takes like a full week for it to actually show up in your paypal but i digress). getting people to buy the prints is the hardest part, but if you can do that, it's great! (it took me years to get my first pay out on inprnt, but now i can do it 1-2 times a month) if you have a certain amount of followers on instagram you can get their reels bonus, where basically if you make reels they pay you for how many views it gets; it used to be Awesome but now its just okay, the amount of money vs amount of views ratio has gotten a lot worse (used to be able to make $180 for ~40k views, last month i got paid $115 for 140k).
something i used to do and plan on doing again is creating an online shop! people make merch of all types; i've personally dabbled in zines and prints, i'd love to make more stickers and apparel. now this definitely has some things you need to consider: there's a lot of cost involved in actual manufacturing, getting the stuff you need to ship orders, buying shipping labels, etc. etc....i would recommend starting small, like just selling stickers + shipping them with normal USPS stamps, to get used to the workflow of owning your own shop. but, its definitely something to consider! if you like designing for physical products and want to actually Make things and see people WIth those things, it can be a viable avenue to explore! (i definitely plan on exploring it more, to say the least).
there's also subscription services like patreon and ko-fi, which allow you to set up a membership so that people can pay you directly and support what you're doing. if you can get people to join, i think this is great! the main issue is the actual getting people to join part...and to be honest, that's something i've struggled with myself. i thiiiink i'm gonna switch from the ko-fi i have now to a patreon, just because people seem to recognize the name more. i'm also gonna assess what i'm actually offering people, i really wanna do a postcard of the month? or maybe a zine club sort of thing? i'd recommend looking at other artists' patreons and see what they're providing, to get an idea of what that can look like. ideally, i would love to just be able to support myself through patreon and make all the silly little stuff i want to...we'll see if i can make that happen!
there's also selling originals, if you work traditionally as opposed to digitally. again, this is something i wanna get more into in the future. there's challenges to this as well, just like anything, but if you prefer to make art with physical materials, then selling that original artwork can be a great revenue stream!
in terms of social media you can also explore being a youtuber or a streamer...those have a lot of moving parts, and you really need to commit in order to see success in those fields, but if you like producing/editing videos or like the performance/live community aspect of streaming, that's something to look into as well! those people make most of their money through sponsorships / things like patreon, but having that additional revenue stream of adsense or twitch subs can't hurt!
another thing to keep in mind is that this sort of stuff can vary a lot from month to month! i won't be seeing the actual pay out until november (or maybe december? honestly don't know LOL) but i'm part of the shortbox comics fair this month, so that's another source of revenue that i didn't/don't have access to beyond october! the amount of, for example, support you get for a new launched product, or how well a piece performs (which then leads to people buying prints of it), or how many people reach out to you for freelance work changes a lot from one month to the next. my biggest piece of advice if you want to pursue art full time is to have as many different sources of income as possible! that way, you can account for the inherent instability of freelancing, instead of not being able to pay your bills because no one's buying your stickers right now.
i hope this helps!!! and i hope all the financial talk wasn't too dread-inducing 😭 i'd definitely recommend asking other artists too and getting their feedback; like i said at the start, "full time artist" looks different from one artist to the next <3

You have anywhere I could buy a print or something of that Technoblade art? Love to have a physical copy I could keep somewhere
So the only way I have to sell prints is redbubble/society6, which I didn’t feel great about selling Technoblade memorial art on. The companies basically upcharge buyers and take a large portion of the revenue from the artists, and it felt wrong to let them profit off of his legacy and image.
So instead, I have set up a google drive folder with hi-rez images of the art and let people download it and print it themselves! You take it to a place that does canvas or higher quality prints if you want or you can use regular old copy paper and have something small and free. Instead of giving money to me or to a company, I will instead encourage you to donate the $10 you would have spent at redbubble to sarcoma research!

I love your art, it is very detailed in a neat way. Was wondering how you got started making it as a source of income? How did you get your first paid work, I'd love some advice on how to get started, if that's ok
Thank you. Of course it's okay, although I doubt I have enough work experience in art to really delve into this. I only went full freelance this year, and had been juggling art as a side hobby until then. If you're still interested in my somewhat narrow perspective, and are okay with my long-winded rambles, I'll give it a shot:
So to answer your question fully, I'll describe how I started and move into personal advice and learnings later on. As a disclaimer, I am a white cishet dude in my late twenties with a moderate cocktail of mental illnesses, but overall I can pass for a functioning adult so a lot I have to say may come laced with privilege I cannot fully identify.
So uhh I began drawing in around 2012? I think? Maybe halfway through 2011? And I mostly made fanart for things I enjoyed and tried to branch out in communities that felt nourishing to my style and interests (I caught a bug for alt posters and enjoyed mainstream movies so I spent a long time on posterspy early on). There were a handful of opportunities that came from there but I could only accept a couple because of primary workplace commitments. Still, it showed that networking in a focused community was definitely a good place to start; I myself have huge trouble committing to social networks and really staying socially active, but I knew it was an essential ingredient in succeeding so I tried to make myself be involved in challenges and art support trains etc. as much as I could.
In parallel to all that I also ran a few third party online stores (redbubble, teepublic) for disposable income and would sometimes, if rarely, hit around $100-150 a month from those sources combined. It is a sort of thing that requires helper accounts on other social media sites to promote it on, because the stores themselves have a huge volume of content that translates into low organic discoverability. Obviously it was never gonna be the way towards financial independence through art, and with community projects being few and far between, I opened private commissions in around uhhh 2017 I think, focusing on offering a few styles I knew I could do well, and sometimes operating in individual fandoms (it was mostly a bioware thing to be frank). But I had to close them back down after a year or so, again because of work-life conflict and how badly it was burning me out. The reason I kept trying to monetize this hobby is because I honestly hated what I did for my main job and wanted to see a way out in some shape or form in the future.
And then in 2020 I had to quit my main job altogether because of *gestures at pandemic* and deal with a mental breakdown from all the wonderful things it did to us and me specifically. I took a short break and decided to give art a shot full-time, and that was around May this year. I was planning on opening up commissions again (and I still am), but a few sudden opportunities that fell in my lap moved that timetable down and now I'm grateful to even be doing something I am getting adequately paid for.
So, with that somewhat limited perspective, here's what I've learned that I'd tell myself if I was just starting out:
1. Being a fan of something can be a shortcut towards effective networking kickoffs. Which are important evidently. If you love something and enjoy making content for it, join communities, settle into a combination of social media websites that feel right for those interests + your body of work + your inner rhythm, and try to play to content discovery as much as your mental health allows you to. Like I said, I know that I myself am incredibly bad at self-motivating to talk to people, so I found that synergizing common interests into fanart - which I enjoyed making anyway - could be a way to give myself a gentle nudge forward and build those bridges leading to community activities, which then net experience and coverage. Sometimes even freelance projects from official avenues. Again; picking the right spaces for what you're after is key. Companies roam twitter, concept art recruiters scour artstation or linkedin etc, instagram can land you private commissions and collab opportunities, so on and so forth. Find your niche and try to kick up dust. However...
2. I do not believe that any social profile can replace a good portfolio. The thing that made an immediate difference to me this year was building a coherent, simple website with my best work front and center and a contact form on top. Every single opportunity I got came from that form (maybe via twitter or instagram initially, but always sealing the decision after going through the website), so I firmly believe that showcasing your skills and portfolio in a visually arresting and user-friendly way is a big priority. I had some reservations about tackling that task but fortunately I had help from a savvy life partner and we slapped it together via wordpress in less than a day. Twitter/whatever social media is prevalent in your target groups is definitely important to get the right eyes on your shit, yes, but those eyes will then look for a second stop where your work and rates are more clear and concise. Simplicity is key imo, I cannot overstate this. So make a cute, simple portfolio!
3. Your skills and rates will grow and change as you do. Let them. Over the years I built several lasting professional relationships from my obsession over mass effect and kept getting opportunities both from bioware and their partner companies, some small and some a bit bigger. A one-off job earlier this year opened an unexpected door to another much larger commitment, and then the work I did there brought some attention from small businesses looking for commercial commissions. These were all incredibly different projects in terms of scope and budget, and I've been tackling them all on a case-by-case basis and slowly coming into my own irt my needs, rates, and SOW thresholds. It is still a work in progress (and a LOT of literal work as well), and very much a thing I struggle with in publicly marketing, which is why I felt a tad underqualified to answer your question in the first place (obviously I did not let that stop me). But what it means for me now is that I am rapidly developing into whatever my "version" of a functioning freelance artist is, and when the conditions for that guy are met, I need to be able to confidently plant myself and operate from that space despite past precedents. Do not let anyone bully you into downpricing what you yourself perceive as legitimate products of personal growth and development. Speaking of which...
4. The shitty challenge of turning envy into inspiration, and paddling outside your comfort zones in full riot gear. it is hard, but realizing that being a miserable, self-hating artist in my early days got me nothing but more misery back was the first real step I took and what truly blew the hinges off. I was just not pleasant to be around, I would badmouth my work all the time, and it all somehow made sense in my broken mind because the validation I sought was purely external and the way I sought it was through eliciting sympathy via self-victimization (even when I made something objectively nice). It all led fucking nowhere. Except perhaps to my own narcissism that I one day managed to identify and start managing. So I started looking at things that made me seethe with envy and calmly deconstruct and figure out their inner workings instead, do studies, and find nuggets of inspiration or discover new ways to approach rendering or building up specific elements. It was an application of analytical diligence to what I wanted to be a purely emotional, esoteric workflow, but that I deep down knew wasn't. Art is a discipline and a skill, and maybe it isn't a straight line, but you gotta find some line to thread nevertheless. Being self-hating was almost an identity I had to break out of, and despite it still being like, 4-5% there? I realize its cause and effect on me, my work, and those around me, so it is with a conscious choice that I gently set it aside when I work and especially when I learn. It won't always stay quiet, but the effort is the difference. Your doors towards accepting true growth and venturing into uncharted territories, art styles, and networking will really open from there. But there's a huge caveat...
5. Toolsets, accessibility, privilege, and all the good things that enable artistic expression and profitability are not given equal to all. you might do all the mental work I mentioned to be ready to rock and roll and learn and draw your way out of anything, but digital art is a fucking money pit that asks almost too much at times. I don't got a good case study here but identifying and ensuring accessibility to the tools you need to do your best work is, like, super important. The ergonomics can improve as you make money and settle into the job, but the basics have to be made available to you. And some of that might not even be under your direct control. That can be anything from pen tablets to software subscriptions to opportunities in hiring sullied by sexism or what have you. You gotta navigate all that through careful networking and money/time management. I don't do a good job of devoting specific slices of time to work/study, and my primary clutch is iPad software which went from a good deal to a nightmare scenario over the years. So all I can say here is do what I didn't; network, invest in a PC/tablet, and pick a software you'll learn that won't burn a hole in your pocket.
6. Be nice to work with? This one is hard to articulate and has landed my own ass in hot water in my early years because of how socially inept I am, but nothing is more worthwhile than being.. like. a good person to work with. That can be anything like meeting deadlines, or sometimes missing them but eloquently articulating why, being generous in early stages, being communicable and not too wordy in your emails, having a good grasp on abstract artistic concepts and how to describe them in simple terms, having a clear, laid out framework of your working rates in commercial and non-commercial projects and sticking to those guns with grace, understanding when you need to say no and saying it well, the works. Just being nice. Sometimes that might mean going headstrong with something you believe in, or simmering down and sucking up to the big man, all relative and adaptive. Part and parcel of the service provision dance that we all have to do in order to make bank. Know your lines here, obviously, and don't like. work for nazis. or uh.. *shudders* exposure. but be nice and empathetic and communicable and word will travel eventually. Skill may be in abundance these days, but good people are most certainly not, and capitalism has a way of bubbling up scarcity. Grim, but uh, them's the breaks.
I know I'm ultimately telling you to like. Have a body of work, make a portfolio, grow, and network. But that's really how I see it for now. And being nice can be a cherry on top that sets you apart, along with the inherent irreplaceable voice of your artwork. I use the site Redbubble:
Its free to sign up and super easy to navigate. What I like about this site is that literally all you need to do is upload your artwork and then choose what products you’d like your artwork to be featured on, post, and then you and others can buy those work AND you get a small commission for each sale!
Redbubble already offers products (which you can pick and choose from) to put your work on, all you need to do is select the ones that you’d like to be offer with your artwork and you’re set.
For preparation, I’d go to the site and check what the recommended minimum pixel requirements are for the products you choose—for example for their sticker options, they advise using a minimum 2800x2800 canvas!
I prefer this site compared to printing/shipping/packing my own stickers at home because I simply do not have the time or resources to do so—Redbubble takes care of ALL of that—ofc this does come at a price per say.
The commission you receive for each sale as an artist is small, even then you have to meet a threshold to even see your compensation for your uploads. This is again because Redbubble does all the work for you on printing AND shipping. The rate at how much you earn per product and per sale IS adjustable, but it does rack up the price of your product for the customer, that being said:
Redbubble is a great place for artists who want to share their artwork on products for themselves and others, I’d personally just say that it is NOT a place an artist goes to in hopes of making big money off their work!
Many other artists choose to do even Etsy or other printing sites, but so far Redbubble is the only one I’ve used/am familiar with! Hope this helps anon!

40. how many blankets on your bed? one and my duvet, but I have 2 blankets across my bedframe since its made of metal and my bed is up against the always-cold wall towards our apartment stairs.

48. favorite job you’ve had? I quite liked cleaning at private homes (of people I knew), which I’ve done a few times before. I work at a store right now (and have been for 3 years), though that is far from something I want to continue, to put it lightly. Admittedly, this was just as good an exercise in character design as it was a way to celebrate my favorite holiday. You're all well aware by now that I've got lots and lots of original characters (many of whom you still haven't met yet) that populate my original works. Indeed, as I have quite a passion for character design 🐸, I'm always on the lookout for tired elements or redundancies between my characters whenever I set out to design a new one, and I strive to make any similarities between them purposeful and deliberate. As important as a character's costume might be, though, it is paramount that any character possess features that make them distinct on their own even when in the buff (that means no same-face syndrome and never relying too heavily on a single motif or technique). So, you can imagine what a relief I felt while working on this (not-so) little project that each of my characters still looked like themselves even when dressed in another character's clothes! 😅

Death was the first horseman created, and unlike the other horsemen he was created the day the earth was. the cosmic force that created him is largely unknown, mysterious and has never been seen or heard of. only Death knows of its existence, but shortly after the creation of the universe and Death was given his role, it vanished without a trace, leaving behind only the prophecy of the end of the world that Death was tasked with carrying out.
Death at first accepted his role as carrying souls to the afterlife and ending the world, but as he watched humanity grow and thrive he developed a deep love for them and began to question his role in the universe he didnt want human life to end, he didnt want to end the world he had grown to love, but still, he carried out his mission.
when the world was ravaged by the apocalypse Death was wracked with grief, ready to dismiss the other horsemen and fade into obscurity, before he found a human woman alive, living in a destroyed amusement park with a baby. this gave him hope, and he took the women, Harpae, and her baby into his protection as he set out to find anymore remnants of humanity. as he found more and more humans alive, he presented himself as a benevolent force meant to guide them, and soon many humans began to worship him as he worked to rise the world from the ashes he left it in, and instead of dismissing the horsemen ordered them to aid him in saving humanity, much to their dismay, but as he created them, they had no choice but to follow him.
as thousands of years passed Death worked tirelessly to bring the world back to modernity, to make human life comfortable and stable, building cities and supplying knowledge of science and technology for humans to build from.
once the world was stable, he gifted the other horsemen sections of the world to govern over, giving them free reign to rule as they saw fit for their service, and then he retreated to to his own territory to rule. he elected officials to govern themselves and only steps in when needed, as once the world had been “fixed” he set his sights on a larger goal; to eliminate death, and supply humanity with immortality. he chose a select few humans to be his disciples, to carry out his orders and research the key to immortality and when it became apparent that this power only existed within the cosmic being that created him, he decided to try and achieve the unthinkable and attain godhood.
Death has the ability to freeze a lifespan in place, allowing them to live lives longer than should be possible, but the side effects of this cause their soul to slowly wither, and can only last so long before they must die.
he also has the ability to temporarily breathe life back into the deceased. this can only last so long, however, when he did this to Jeremy something unexplainable happened and Jeremy, though his body should have been unlivable, kept the temporary life Death had given him, and has now reached the age of 204 with no signs of stopping, but Death has not been able to duplicate whatever happened to Jeremy.
normally, when a human dies, Death leads their souls to the “afterlife”, which in this case is more of an alternate universe. he leads them to a gate the reincarnates them into an alternate reality with its own version of Death. Death however, cant step through this gate, and is locked in the universe he was created in.

I think the sticker idea sounds wonderful! Even though you’d be monetizing on it, I feel like it’s less “all consuming” than any other way of monetizing on art cause I feel like it’s a little less serious maybe? That OF COURSE isn’t to say that there is no artistry involved in the process because there is, But you can, I feel, have a bit more freedom, and that’s just in the creative process, because the people I know that sell art in other forms, like prints for instance, have also had a WHOLE ordeal with that! A lot have to try various printing places to see which one they like most, or end up buying one of those crazy expensive, massive printers to do it themselves to get it just right, so I think the stickers is honestly a fantastic way to start, less complicated, more fun and more free! -shy anon
yeah, the way i’ve been thinking about it is like, each month i can design a new sticker sheet (probably based on whatever bujo theme i’m doing but whatever) and maybe some like individual stickers that are larger and then the rest of the month is just about filling orders which i can’t imagine will be too time consuming?? 
i’ve considered doing prints and stuff too but most of my art is related to my weekly bullet journal set ups rather than like actual paintings or whatever so it’s like ideal for transferring to stickers and stuff that other people can use in their planners and things. it’s something i could potentially expand into if i wanted to but it defs sounds a lot more complicated lmao
(i actually didnt think of a printer 😅 but id probs need one of them too cause for the last like 10 years or whatever ive just done any printing i needed to do at work on the school’s printer lmao)
but even if i didn’t start doing it myself i could use a website like redbubble that does all the printing/shipping for me. i have less control over it and idk what sort of materials they use (if i was doing it myself through etsy i’d try to use as much sustainable stuff as possible and actually last night i stumbled upon a company that produces recyclable shipping bags and customisable tissue paper and stuff which sound so fucking cute as well as being environmentally friendly!) but it would just mean i could design things, upload them and then not have to worry about it lmao
idk it’s defs something i’m considering and i might have a scout around over the boxing day sales and see what sort of a deal i could get on a printer or cricut machine 🤷‍♀️
but man, thinking about all this makes me want to buy my own place and like set up a little office so i don’t have to cram everything into my shitty bedroom kjskfjksfj (its not gonna happen any time soon, not until we get the house to a point where it could be sold but its the current Dream)

Note: I originally made this painting and typed most of the description towards the end of March. I meant to upload this sooner, but things happened it obviously got pushed way back. Oh gee, would you look at that. It has somehow been 8-9 months since I last made a full acrylic painting... But! I have a video for this one to make up for it! Link: youtu.be/8IgVvgTiZjM I promise I've been trying (and failing) to come up with ideas to do more with this medium. Acrylic paint just isn't my thing. I swear I said this somewhere before, but I have no idea where; It's just hard for me to commit to an acrylic painting when I know I can get the look I want usually much faster and much more easily with other supplies. Acrylic painting just takes so much more time, set up, and patience. This very painting I know I probably could've had done in half the time using primarily watercolor instead, for example. So why is this an acrylic painting instead of something quicker and easier? Because my dear Sparklers, I made this painting and filmed it as a bit of a blending demo for a friend. They tried their hand at an acrylic painting with a sky going from red to yellow...except they lost most of the yellow in the process, and even they weren't really sure how it happened. So since I'm in sort of an art teaching/mentoring position to them, I decided I'd pull out my paints and take a shot at a similar look. Now, to be fair, my end result is very different from their's intentionally. They painted a boat on the water during sunset, I wanted something different and more me, so after some browsing around on Pinterest, I settled on this flower silhouette. I made my own job harder because the reference image had a blue and orange background with lots of black, almost like a vignette, so once I got past the stage of putting the base background colors down, I had a lot more work cut out for myself in trying to replicate that. Speaking of which, you can see most of my process in the video, but a recap just in case: I started by picking out my paint colors, and to be fair I could've gotten away with less or slightly different colors, but I got extravagant and picked a total of nine colors from my Liquitex Basics set (also known as currently the only decent acrylic paints I have):
• Mars Black • Ivory Black • Titanium White • Cadmium Red Deep Hue • Cadmium Red Light Hue • Portrait Pink • Naples Yellow Hue • Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue • Primary Yellow Why the two blacks? Mars Black is a "denser" black so to speak, it's more opaque (less transparent/see-through). The Ivory Black is less opaque, and it's a bit warmer in color than the Mars black. I used the Mars black in areas where I wanted a total and complete black and the Ivory black where I wanted some of the colors from the background to leak through a bit. It's subtle, more of a "feeling" to the eye than something you can clearly see. Also, I used the Portrait Pink, which like the name implies is a very pink flesh tone, and the Naples Yellow Hue (think a shade similar to Yellow Ochre...or fancy Mustard if "yellow ochre" doesn't help you visualize) primarily for blending and not so much for the colors themselves. And the Cadmium Red Light Hue is much more of a reddish-orange in person than it is red, which is why I picked it. It's also pretty transparent (yellows and oranges often are in acrylic paints, especially more student grade ones like the Liquitex Basics) so it also got lost in the mix fairly easily and I had to build it up a lot. In the video, you can definitely see as I start that I do indeed do a lot of back and forth with the paints, blending and layering to my heart's content to try and get the right color balance while also getting a smooth transition. And this goes on for quite a while; the background was definitely the part that took the longest. Initially, I did sketch in a couple of lines as markers for roughly where I needed certain parts of the gradient to begin and end, and with the paints, I went in and got down the base of red and yellows so I could then start working on marrying the two together. And I have to admit, even I let my yellows get a bit lost/pushed down more so than I would've liked. It's a difficult balance to strike; red is already a strong color that easily overpowers yellow. It's even easier when the yellow and your transition colors are more transparent while the red is more opaque. And even more so when your painting has a vignette feel to it. But once I finally had something I was comfortable with and blocked in most of the black (which was a pain in the butt to blend out, by the way, as I'm sure is obvious by how much I go back and forth with it in the video, misusing a fluffy watercolor brush as a mop brush to blend), I then took my outline for the silhouette that I'd already prepared on another piece of paper and used a Faber Castell Gelato (first a gray, then later I'd use a black) on the back to be able to transfer it on the canvas by tracing it with a mechanical pencil with the point pushed in. Personally, I really do think the Gelatos are the best method I've tried for making faux-transfer paper. They're soft so they transfer the color without much fuss without making a powder smudge-y mess (like charcoal, chalk, or pastels might), and they're also water-soluble so they play nicely with the wetness of the acrylic paints, especially if you've thinned them with a bit of water. Then I got the lovely challenge of trying to paint and blend out a nice bright setting sun on top of the blackish mess I'd made.  (It actually wasn't that bad; the Titanium White is pretty opaque so once it mixed with the yellow and I got a couple of layers on it really didn't have any problem covering the darkness that it had to.) After that, I transferred again some of my lines I'd covered up and then got to work on the black silhouette parts. I did have to alter the look slightly because I wasn't quite as careful with lining up the placement of my "transfer paper" that second time and also because the brush had different ideas about how much black should be in some places than I did, but it wasn't too much of a hassle. And then, of course, the real challenge of blending the black up to meet the silhouettes without completely covering up my sun or messing up my other blending. Although, this also wasn't as tricky as I had thought it would be. Ironically, I think by the time I got this far I was finally starting to get a handle on the acrylics after having been away from them for so long.   Believe it or not, this tiny 4"x6"  painting took well over two hours to complete. I had at least two hours of footage that I trimmed down and sped up like four times, and that doesn't include the dry time in between two background layers, the background and the sun, and then the sun and the silhouette. I'd say it was probably closer to 3 and 1/2 hours total, although technically longer because I kept getting interrupted by things and I had to figure out how to set up the camera and everything before I actually started painting. Once I was done with the painting, I also had to actually edit the thing together, which took many more hours than I bothered to document or care to admit. (P.S. Whoever decided all free video editors that don't come pre-installed on a computer either must have stupidly low export limits and/or super obnoxious watermarks, I hate you.) Yeah, there's a reason it's been almost a year since I last posted an actual video of me making art... It just takes so long to edit everything together and I also have to make an extra effort to get stuff set up before and after for filming...Like, maybe it would be different if I had the space and resources to have an area where I could just leave everything and have a camera set up that doesn't move, but right now when my space is limited and my phone is my camera it's just so much easier to...well, to not. At any rate, here's one. One acrylic painting, and one video. A two-for-one special! Sort of! And I think both turned out pretty okay in the end, at least for someone that 1. Doesn't acrylic paint and 2. Doesn't make videos regularly. I call that a win, wouldn't you? Although, I have a few canvases stockpiled. It’s actually a rule Bakugou put down for himself for a number of reasons, half related to his own safety and the safety of the person he’s dating, the other half to the fact that Bakugou hates lying, but (again for safety reasons) he can’t just go around telling everyone what he’s doing - he doesn’t want a relationship in which he’d just contantly lie to his partner and ditch them for vigilante work without being able to explain them what’s going on, so he put down the rule as soon as he decided he wanted to do this. Well, he hadn’t been interested in relationships anyway before Kirishima, so it was an easy decision to take at the time - now though...
Ahhhh if only he figured out Kiri and Red are the same person smh that’d make everything so much easier on him

Oh that’s an hc I see around a lot! Personally I stil prefer them sorta the same size tho ???? with the only difference being Baku being lithe and Kiri being a tank, I think it has to do with the whole “complementary equals” theme they have going on, I like for it to be visually represented too ??? maybe, I had never really thought about the hows or whys of this preference tbh lmao

nyxa, you sell stuff online. what do you think is the best website for that?
I think it depends on your personal preferences!
Redbubble, the one I use right now, is really easy to use! You just have to upload your art, select which products you want it to be available as, and that’s it. They handle all the manufacturing and shipping themselves. But, the downside of that is that you don’t turn as much as a profit when someone buys something.
Alternatively, you could either have a company manufacture the products in bulk + have them delivered to you or manufacture them yourself (print stickers, press buttons, etc). From there you could set up a store with a website. Common ones I’ve seen used are Etsy, Storenvy, Shopify, and bigcartel. These vary in customizablity, fees, and whatnot so again, that’s up to personal preference. Unlike redbubble tho, you’ve gotta handle all the shipping to customers yourself. So it’s a bit more work but this way, you’re able to set prices yourself + receive more of a profit than 20% lol

I fucking hate energy companies EDF can go fuck themselves I spent 2 days and 3 phone calls…fucking THREE calls one of which lasted over an hour trying to sort out their fuckery. I get told the wrong information which left me with a bill saying I was £126 in debt to them so I make the third phone call the next day and set up a payment plan and increase my monthly payments - they have a stupid way of working out your estimated usage and I recently got a smart meter install which gives monthly accurate usage data. Because of this they got my estimate wrong by about £40 since I moved in in March and the meter was installed in July and despite now having access to my actual usage the algorithm they use to come up with estimated billing is still out of whack and they cannot manually change it/over ride it so they’re still telling me im only using £80 a month I know I am using about £120 so I had to tell the guy to up my monthly payments to £140 despite their estimates saying £80. That £140 was meant to include £10 a month to pay off the £126 debt I owe them. He reassures me I’m on a payment plan and what happens oh yeah tonight I check my bank account to see they’ve taken the £126 out of my account right now and in 4 days time they’re going to take the fucking £140 to cover next months bill. I’m so fucking angry that I spent so much time and so much anxiety trying to sort this shit out for them to still go and just take it right outta my fucking account. I am SO lucky that my parents incidentally ended up offering to pay for my weekly shop this week and last week so I have the money to cover this bill. Also I got paid this month from my Redbubble it finally accrued enough sales to reach the £20 threshold both my accounts did. I’ve also been really savvy with money and doing things like surveys and playing games to earn gift cards so I save us a lot of money by getting gift cards to buy things we might need but its not the point what if I hadn’t earned money this month what if my parents hadn’t covered some of my costs and what if I wasn’t so savvy and using survey apps to get gift cards that is a lot of fucking money to have come out of my account their fuck up could have had much worse effects if I hadn’t got all these things going right now and what if im not the only one they’ve done this too like it just makes me mad regardless because they don’t know my situation they do know im disabled and on benefits. This kind of mistake could leave someone without any money to put food on the table I am fortunate and in a lucky position that I’m going to be fine despite the fuck up but damn am I so fucking mad right now especially because of the sheer amount of anxiety I suffered over those two days of phone calls and for what??

Late last year I read another of Amélie Fléchais‘ graphic novels and said I’d love to read more of her work so when I saw The Lost Path on NetGalley I instantly got it.
Then I updated my PC, completely wiped everything from it, and was terrified I’d missed my chance.
Luckily it hadn’t been archived yet so I downloaded and read instantly this time.

I really enjoyed the story starts off telling the story of how a couple fall out of love, the woman becoming one with the forest and its malicious roots. The man locking himself up in the house until the forest takes over there too.
That is the set up for the story but the main chunk takes part later on. It follows 3 children as they follow a treasure map and get very lost within the forest and come into contact with those who want to rule over it.
It sounds a bit spooky and scary but as its all told more so from the childrens point of views its something y’all can enjoy.
Want to know what I loved most about this graphic novel though? Its change in style to fit the scenes.
You can already see the first style for the start of the graphic novel in the image I’ve already shared.
But when we move to the children its a lot more colourful. I love how light is portrayed on these pages. As I read on it suddenly had a black and white page or two and I was worried that this was because its an ARC and therefor unfinished but I think its more to draw attention and add atmosphere in different ways.

It was this page that confirmed my thoughts due to the colouring in the top panel which causes one of the boys to show how he’s been imagining the journey. I really liked his brief fight scene as a robot.I definitely recommend picking up this or even her some of her other works. I really enjoy her style and approach of telling stories.

Nine Worlds; One Valkyries Trip To London’s Inclusive Fan Convention
Conventions appeal to different fans for different reasons, whether it be comic con, a game expo, YouTube/Blogger convention or whatever the medium but one common factor in all of these conventions is the possibility to meet other like-minded fans! As well as hopefully getting the chance to meet your idols! 
There is a Con though that really thrives on fans, it is called Nine Worlds (London’s Inclusive Fan Culture Convention). A Con with a difference – the difference being it is made by fans for fans to meet other fans and just enjoy and celebrate their fandom in all it’s crazy geekiness.
It has been going since 2013 when it was first set up but I only heard about it last summer (2017) when I discovered that one talk held there was titled “It’s research! Or Why it is ok to play over 100 hours of Dragon Age when you really should be writing.” This, as a huge Dragon Age fan since discovering Inquisition, spoke to me on a level that none of my immediate friends understood or appreciated. Unfortunately I was unable to attend Nine Worlds in 2017, but the fact that there was a time and place to have such a discussion on such a unique fan-based topic inspired me to endeavor to attend in 2018. So as soon as the Early Bird Tickets became available I put my money where my heart wanted me to and I began to plan and save for a big solo adventure to London for Nine Worlds 2018.
I also made another bold and brave and foolish decision to sign up as a Content Provider for Nine Worlds 2018!
Why? – because why not? I have been a mega reader, hoarder and fan of all fiction featuring, adapting or retelling Norse Mythology for years and Nine Worlds provided me with the ideal and probably only platform where I could take the chance to share my enthusiasm and passion for the genre of Norse Fantasy. The Nine Worlds Team accepted my proposal, so, on top of saving for the hotel room on-site and booking train travel I also had to plan a lecture/talk – I was both really nervous and really excited! The months, weeks and days soon dwindled down to departure day and then I was off down to London for what I hoped would be a fun and busy weekend.
Now on to the fun bit – the various sessions and events and panel discussions! These were the ones I attended but over 50 were held each day of the convention so this is just a small sample of what fandom and genres were covered.
Session One – LARP (Live Action Role Play). Speakers; Penny Jackson, Adam Dinwoodie, Mx RA Madgwick and Haplocke Spence
As I am attending my first ever LARP event, set in the world of Dragon Age in November this was a must for me! The panel was made up of experienced and new-ish LARP players and they gave a great insight into how LARP’ing works, the various types and systems involved, clothing and equipment, rules for both play and player protection and more.
Session Two – The Only Toilet in Thedas. Speakers; Sarah Gordon, Phil Dyson, Angela Cleland
Now who couldn’t resist that title? Especially when you are a Dragon age fan. This panel discussion was the most interesting because it covered not just the world of games but also of books, TV and Film. It made me realize how much in Fantasy the practical matters of hygiene from toilets to sewers to bathing are just not address yet in Sci-Fi it’s more visible. The panel discussed whether it was a taboo or simply a matter of too much detail on a very personal and private matter – for instance do you want to know how long the hero, heroine, villain or indeed any character takes on the toilet? If they wash their hands or not? – but then again social, religious and cultural practices exist even within the bathroom and so perhaps it should be represented more?
Session Three – Know Thy Enemy. Speakers; Adrian Tchaikovsky, Jeanette Ng, Ms Anna Stephens
This was a panel debate all about the nature and representation of Villains. I found it fascinating to discuss Villains and their nature, one panel member made the very good point on how it is wrong to see the Villain as the champion of Chaos and the Hero of Order for it is in fact the other way around. In many scenarios across all mediums it is the Villain that has established some type of order whether through politics, society, culturally or religious or just geographically or financially but it is the Hero who emerges to disrupt that form of order and thus bring about chaos. This made me instantly think of Katniss in the Hunger Games, she is rebelling against the ruling society and its cultural practice of the Games and thus brings war to the capital city and thus chaos. Another issue discussed was whether the viewer/reader must be sympathetic towards Villains. The panel debated hard on this topic and in the end agreed that sympathy isn’t necessary for a Villain to be a true villain or a good villain but what is necessary is that the viewer/reader gets a sense of the Villain’s journey to their villainy – they must see where, how and why the character has become the Villain, whether for good or bad, and so enjoy the Villain’s redemption or come-uppance by the hero.
Session Four – D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) for Young People. Speaker; Elizabeth Prais
In my day job as a college Librarian I had recently learned of a lunch-time Dungeons and Dragons group being set up by a teacher after some students expressed an interest. So, I was eager to learn more tips and tricks to either host such a group in the Library or pass on to my colleague. The lady who hosted this session hailed from America and was very open about how she ran her local residential D&D group for her daughter and some local children. She gave some great recommendations and advice on timing, kit, planning, preparation and how to adjust and adapt the large and complex set of rules for a younger more impatient audience.
Session Five – Philosophy and Mass Effect. Speaker; Michael Duxbury, Emily Marlow
Now this was the first session I wasn’t entirely clued up on as I myself am still stuck half way through playing Mass Effect 2 by Bioware so a lot of the moral/ethical dilemmas they talked about I hadn’t actually experienced yet, or I couldn’t remember what I chose in the ones I was familiar with. Yet it was interesting and food for thought on how the scenarios were portrayed, and the fixed set of options provided resulted in the moral and ethics becoming such a personal dilemma for players. It wasn’t always a case of choosing the lesser of two evils but how the player and indeed the character depending on their Renegade to Hero balance would pick. Some panel members and indeed people in the audience felt that more choices would improve and increase the dilemma levels instead of just A or B. The panel also discussed how often, at least amongst themselves, they would pick based on the benefit or not long term, not the short term and play with a view of working towards achieving success or a goal.
Session Six – Beyond Marvel and DC – What comics you should be reading. Speakers; Angie Wenham, Stephen Lacey, Kate Barton, Ram V
The panel mentioned a great many titles, artists, apps and webcomics that they recommended as alternatives to Marvel/DC and then invited the audience to contribute. I recommended Nimona* by Noelle Stevenson  and I Hate Fairy Land by Skottie Young.

Session Seven – Disney Sing-A-Long
This was the true highlight for me as an eternal child thanks to the magic of Disney. I wasn’t the only adult in the room, it was a very popular event and there were children of all ages and their parents and even a few Disney cosplayers too. We were all able to sing-a-long via screen projecting the words, or handouts or follow a link online. A whole range of songs was sung and Frozen ‘Let It Go’ proved to be a major popular one with a member of Con Staff leading a friendly stage invasion and then everyone proudly showed off all the right moves to the lyrics. I honestly was in tears with joy as some of the most powerful songs were sung by young and old alike.
The final event I will review was the FABULOUS MMORPG SHOW. Speaker; Misha Anker, Paul Flannery
Which was a blend of audience power and D&D – we basically had the Game Master who set up a story, invited some members of the audience to join him on stage and fill in character sheets but they had to be as unconventional as possible and then he would invite the audience to provide character names, objects, powers etc. to the story narrative and the players would roll a giant D20 (20-sided dice) to determine the outcome. This was a whole lot of fun and silliness and the story involved a Bee with a Human Leg, a Swarm of Wasps and a Wizard whose greatest spell was making Jam, they had to find the Cheese Board for the Duck of Doom! You had to be there to believe the story and it was amazingly resolved within the 1 hour and a half session.
Norse Fantasy, My own presentation! 
Was scheduled bright and early on a Saturday morning the night after the first big disco (alas Becky did not go dancing due to a very painful wisdom tooth spoiling things) and yet the room quickly filled up much to my delight. Despite not having the colorful presentation I spent hours on, due to not having my own laptop to plug into the screen, I was still able to explain, explore and introduce so many of my favourite authors and titles to a new audience. Some of the audience also proved to be fellow fans of many of them and a good number took photographs of my favourite title list to go away with to look at later and thanked me for the session, which was an awesome feeling. I was even complimented on my choice of t-shirt for the session – my own Valkyrie t-shirt from Redbubble. It says, “Valkyrie of Odin – Midgard Original – Since 793”. If you are interested in my presentation, I am planning on doing a written version of it for the Valkyries Blog so stay tuned!
Last but not least was the fab mini Geek Market that was on all weekend and as it was also my birthday, I indulged myself in another t-shirt from Genki Gear, some D&D themed tea, tea strainer and mug, two new bookmarks, some funky acrylic necklaces featuring a book and a fox in a bin, some super cute little clay keyrings of Flynn Rider, Thor and Pizza and of course BOOKS! Each attendee got a surprise free book in their bag, but I got two based on libraries and books, The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman and Bookworm by Christopher Nuttall – expect a review on here once I have got around to enjoying them.
Now the managing team have recently stepped down to consult with attendees and invite new members, as they are reviewing their constitution to try and make it more inclusive and representative of those who attend. Although from what I witnessed their inclusive and equality practices were out of this world compared to other cons I’ve been too. I do hope the new organizers can continue what has already been established and continue to make improvements where they feel it is needed. I for one enjoyed it all – despite my wisdom tooth being a very literal pain throughout – for I definitely would attend again.
