The Story in Summary: the Hadley family, two kids and their mom and dad, live in this automated home that can do anything for them. It can cook, clean, wash the kids, put them to bed, anything household work like you can imagine, it can do.

Kids have a VR Room called The Nursery. The Nursery is stuck visually showing an African landscape (w/ lions eating dead carcasses in the background and people screaming). They call a Psychologist for answers of this landscape. Psychologist tells them to turn off the house. The Hadley’s agree. They doubt their parenting abilities but this guy helped reassure them that doing this will help their issues. The kids protest heavily but the parents’s resolve is firm. They tell their kids they can visit The Nursery one last time.

The parents talk about the kids a bit more before going into The Nursery to collect the kids. They are met with a pride of lions. The screams they heard in The Nursery before is reminiscent as the ones they are currently making as the Lions tear into them.

The psychologist goes to check on the kids. They are in the Nursery having tea. It’s still the African Savanna. Lions are feasting on two bodies far in the distance.

The psychologist realizes what has been done. A child offers him tea like nothing is wrong.

That’s the story. Its a very shitty summary but its the best I could do with my current brain functionality. But can you imagine why I think that’s a Not Normal Parenting Tactic for the average child?

I have the personal belief that Bruce’s parents were quite eccentric and a tad on the strange side. You dont grow up stewing in your own grief and then decide to become a vigilante crime fighter after a traumatic event with a regular upbringing.

All I’m saying is that if you’re going the Civilian!Bruce route, he’s absolutely protective of his kids, but his personality would still have some similarities to the OG Bruce Wayne. Still enjoys working out and maybe this time he actually gets those copious amounts of injuries doing eccentric Rich people sports and getting hurt from trying to pull off wild as hell stunts.

He isn’t a man who doesn’t do anything when he’s in the line of fire. He still has learned self defense and knows damn well how to fight and fight back, just not to the degree of a vigilante.

I’m unsure how to fully characterize a Bruce who his parent’s death never consumed his entire being and made him into Batman but this man certainly will pretend to be a himbo in front of the press. He might not have that playboy guise anymore because normally its a way to hide his Batman identity. He certainly doesn’t have the Batcave but you bet your ass that this man HAS tried to go spelunking in the caves below his house.

Idk that’s all I got for this but its just me adding on with my thoughts. Bruce unknowingly keeping the boys grounded in normal life actives in a way that means more for the boys than Bruce would ever understand or realize is some good shit.

tbh! more than anything i think its just kinda boring.

i dont think the jason characterization is TOO terrible. i hated the "bad robin" stuff they were doing in the first few issues but they havent really brought it up since so whatever. honestly the plot immediately leaves my brain right after i finish reading it so maybe im misremembering this but?? they took the job to get the idol from just some guy and didnt ask any questions,,, including when martian manhunter tried to get it back,,,,,, idk! like babygirl you know better than this what r u doing!!! it seemed very odd to me that the fact that a justice league member was trying to stop them from taking this "family heirloom" wasnt an immediate red flag

as far as artemis and bizarro go its kinda eh. i hate hate hate how artemis's face is drawn, it looks too yassified to me. also she had some kind of she ra moment in one of the eps which felt very weird. i dont read a lot of artemis content so i cant rly say whether or not shes being written in character. shes a lot like she was in rhato 2016 and i liked her in that so! sure! but bizarro-wise ive mentioned this before but. the opposite talking gets old FAST. the one (1) thing i will give lobdell credit for is that he knew biz was gonna be a recurring character so he didnt do all that because it def gets annoying

anyways. aside from me being picky, overall its just kinda boring. the plot isnt very interesting and it feels like even when things happen, nothing is rly happening ??? idk. i think that webtoons are one of the worst ways to tell an actual story. like wfa works because its just a little slice of life thing and it shouldnt be taken seriously, so the webtoon is a nice format for that. but when rhato is trying to like. Tell A Story it doesnt really work to tell it in a webtoon

but i do like things about it! i think there are fun moments! i rly liked the ep where jason could tell that someone had replaced artemis because he knew exactly how she drew her sword :) that one was a nice one that stuck out to me. i also still think the art is very pretty even though they do artemis dirty

whenever you decide to attend or visit chiyu and pareo before their practices, you decide to get them a gift before you go. usually it's jerky or maybe a clip, something that isn't that expensive. even if it's a fairly small thing (and the jerky isnt world-class...), both of them appreciate it a lot (chiyu doesnt like the flavor, but she is genuinely grateful for you buying this for her.) after all, your bright smile after handing the things you got for them is a sweet enough gift for the both of them

maybe you're in a band or a unit, or maybe you perform as a solo artist. when you visit galaxy to check any open slots, you have the small chance to encounter rokka or masuki. rokka may just be a normal day at work, or masuki's just bored and wants to hit the drums, but their whole day changes as soon as you see them in galaxy— the mood gets brighter and happier, as if you brought the sun down into the livehouse. they love listening to you and love your hugs a lot.

rei noticed it first— your sudden changes in demeanor when you're around with them. it happened as she saw you walking home with your other friends with a blank face or a simple smile, hiding away behind them.

it confused her at first and she got worried initially, thinking you're not alright and you're being forced to do this, but when you spotted her you had zero hesitation to approach her and happily greet her like you weren't just quietly standing behind your other friends.

admittedly your friends were quite shocked as well. they saw it for the first time with rei, and at some point they teased you for having a soft spot for her up until they saw you with any other RAS member and acting the same way you did with rei

everyone else in RAS soon followed and saw how you acted. they weren't expecting you to trust them and feel so open around them— they just thought you were usually like that.

(rokka and masuki probably knew first before rei even... this is If you're in a band/unit: they had backstage passes and you didnt notice them until you turned around.... rokka and masuki were Both confused for a bit and in disbelief? on you were talking so calmly and seriously since theyre Definitely used to your happy lucky smile self)

either way, nothing really changed between any of you. you're still having fun with RAS, RAS is having fun with you, and you're still friends with your friends, of course.

they all enjoy your company very much, and would never ask for anything else.

arkham origins is so great because it really is just like. Here is what everyone was like and what the world was like before batman became the most important boy in the universe.

Like. joker is a crazy murderhappy guy but like hes totally on his way to getting himself killed for a joke and mostly hes just a crime lord. Bane isnt broken yet and has like a whole faction of people so loyal to him vs how alone he becomes in later arkham. enigma doesnt even call himself the riddler and doesn't even MAKE riddles. Hes like. Sane and has a slight moral focus to his work. He wants to destroy corruption (or control it). Ras is in the shadows, planning, which we see through the dignified but cruel Shiva. Sidonis is the old guard, old crime, being destroyed by the rise of the new 'supercrime'.

Anyways. Batman fucks up all these people and puts a wrench in the works that just starts twisting. Because of Batman, Jim Gordon gets more recognition (through Jims own efforts as well but tbh some of the people Batman takes down would 1000% have gotten Jim dead i think. Its a team effort). And Gotham itself will change so much too. Part of it was crime already shifting but the Bat is such a huge fucking effect. Alfred is right when he sees how important Batman is (THE TWO OF THEM ARE!!)

technically theyre two subunits, Adam and Eve, and they combine to create Eden. Eve is the two on the left, while Adam is the two on the right. I'm not gonna mention the characters but oh my goddd they sure are! characters! Eden was the antagonists for the second half of the anime. Their songs are kinda more rocky and very risque which is funny considering the biblical allegories

Im telling you as iconic and hillarious as riverdale is it really fucking kicked reboot culture into high gear. I feel like it really popularized the idea of like… “a reboot doesnt have to be accurate at all to the sourcw material” which is objectively not true? Idk RAS is in a strange position where he not only is an archie author but alsoa. Huge archie fan but still made the show like that. I think that people dont really usually know this or fully undersrand that or get how mant ridiculously obscurw refwrences are in that show. Not to say its a “good” show i dont actively watch it and i think it has its fair share of problems considering fuckign RAS wrote it, if youve read afterlife with archie then you know this guy os just WEIRD. I think that people took ita popularity and were like okay now were gonna make edgy reboots of everything and have them not relate back to the source material bc riverdale was so popular. Which is silly because like its not like Mindy Kaling is some like devout scooby doo fan. Why scooby doo? The answer for “why archie” for riverdale at least can be explained by Well its made by a guy whos been writing archie media for decades even before he worked for them (see archies weird fantasy), he writes archie horror for the company, and the juxtaposition of fucking Normal ass archie comics with the most insane ahit ever IS pretty funny. Thats why its so quotable. But like its not like the average person knows any if this shit they jist know Hey that riverdale show used the archie chaeacrers for unrelated shit we should do that with other shows!! But like…with shows like these youre always going to be eliminating a huge part of your audience which is people who are faithful fans of the original source. Of course not everyone, but also at the same time probably every archie fan that i know who likes riverdale either started watching it ironically or likes it ironically to some degree. Again this isnt a discussion on whether its “good” or not, but like at least with riverdale even tho normal classic archie likers are going to be much harder to get to like the shwo based, RAS is a huge afchie fan so he puts in a lot of tiny super specific archie media references as well which is pretty fucking insane. But like its not gonna work qith anything else. Hell its debatable whether it even worked for riverdale because like archie fans dont interact with it the same way genuine non archie riverdale fans do. Archie fans who like riverdale think its camp and it is. You were attacked by a friggin bear? Anyways like Velma isnt gonna have that same appeal nor will any orher stupid reboot like that bc it doesnt have that passion. As an "elder fandom nerd" who watched many of the OG online fandom wars, I feel many BAs are younger (this ISNT a slight, it's just an observation) so they may not realize the lengths that writers will go to with ships for the fact it gains more social media interactions bc people argue. Its pretty clear to me that the writers of this show are MILKING ships to the death, but they clear had a preference for several years and originally intended to get the og couples back together sooner until they knew they'd been renewed for more seasons. It's very clear that they know which side of the fan base they can play VERY VERY tricksy games with and it's just sort of sad. They're being duped HARD. Most shows/books/etc usually aren't as chaotic as Riverdale, but with their lack of cohesion mixed with prior knowledge of how writers handle shipping wars; it just feels very obvious the writers are taking advantage of the fact that Barchies are younger and less aware of shipping tricks. Like, I do sort of feel bad for them bc I can see from a mile away what the writers consider lucrative bc I've seen plots shift based on shipping wars bc they wanted money and exposure but these hopeful fandom babies just can't see it. It's like RAS is kicking a hopeful, though maybe annoyingly loud, puppy.

that they actually went ahead and started interacting consistently with the b/a fandom (ted and evan specifically) is very loud to what they were/are doing. negative or positive, all engagement is engagement.

i get a lot of asks from them about this ship or that ship being just like b/a and none of the archetypes are even in the same room, it's just a ship they liked that ended up together or someone told them they did. themes and narratives, tropes, etc all get talked about but it's clear they don't actually understand what they're discussing. they just repeat what the other b/as say on twitter then wander over here with it.

and yeah, i think it's very much baby's first fandom for a lot of them and if they hadn't been the absolute worst version of themselves for years to me and others, i would have a lot of sympathy for them. that they're writing archie the way he is with betty should be pretty telling for them since this isn't how they've ever shown working relationships to function before. but no, they want their b/a baby, their wedding, their picket fence and they don't care about what happens onscreen because evan said this or so and so posted this emoji.

they're going to be in for a shock when they move onto something new and none of the stuff they pull now will get them the attention they get now.

Launch/Corridors revisit

We rewatched the first 3 eps of she ra s5 on stream!

I cannot stress how important the sound design of this show is. It is some top tier stuff, at least for cartoons - Season 5′s sound reminds me of Mass Effect. which I actually went back and played after finishing She-Ra because of how nostalgic the show made me feel for it. (Still havent done the ending, maybe this weekend, I wanted my friends to watch.)  

I missed the first ep, but I was there for “Launch” and “Corridors”.

  I feel kinda bad for Perfuma in “Launch”. Like, she’s trying. I mean, fuck the rope gag anyway, but Perfuma is a great ball of Stress. She was trying to be polite to Entrapta and eventualy snapped alongside the rest of the group.   

I’m also VERY interested in Scorpia’s feelings because she spent the entire ep looking like she wanted to say something but was too worried about getting involved in conflict. That’s a Bow moment for her.  The lack of statement from Scorpia perhaps made the fight at the end inevitable. .

Of course, Entrapta’s side of things is very.... yeah, it brought someone working on the show to tears and I can understand why. The way she isnt responding to things like they do, doesnt show the same doubt or remorse, so they get angrier and angrier and treat her like she has no feelings and she feels so terrible because she didn’t notice until it was too late as she’s so bad at reading people, and this keeps on happening and she feels it always will because of who she is, that is an autistic story. The fact Entrapta has to go through the monumentally difficult task of explaining how she feels, and everyone realises they fucked up. And Mermista running after her, it has always invoked some distant memory for me. More than anything else in the show could hope to do, besides maybe those early Adora episodes - it reminds me of when I was struggling to make friends with the cadets that I respected, and used to break down and run off, and the other kids would try to help even though they didn’t get it. They were good kids, but I was kinda not good at working with them.     

(Young Catradora also have vibes of that but I get so unreasonably angry every time I see/hear 8 year old Adora. I’m not sure if it’s the really bad child acting, or if it’s because Adora’s COMPLETE LACK OF UNDERSTANDING for how Catra feels reminds me way too much of my younger self.)  

I do feel like this scene could’ve done with more reinforcement later on - have a small scene where she genuinely bonds with one of the good guys, other than Wrong Hordak. Also maybe less wacky hijinks and ropes in this ep. But alas. I’m really glad, regardless of everything else, they got Entrapta’s POV across.

The scenes with Adora in this ep, the silent She-Ra form she just spoke to about her feelings on destiny, they were also great to watch and listen to again. I love that it was complete silence when she woke up, until Bow walked in, then Chaos started happening again, with Mermista SHRIEKING on the voice call for them to deck it to Darla, while Entrapta geeks out about finding glimmer and Bow is Stressed. I love it. 

Catra and Glimmer, for the first 3 eps (the scenes blur together in my head), ugh. These are the BEST INTERACTIONS IN THE SHOW, hands down. I don’t know. There is something so nuanced about how when they’re all stuck on the space ship together, they thirst so hard for a bit of familiarity that they are willing to turn to their gratest enemy for companionship.  

Catra and Glimmer have so much in common.  They have both nearly destroyed the world at this stage, they are both responsible for Prime being here today. And you can really tell  that the isolation is getting to them both, because they start bonding over Adora..  

I love the interactions between Catra and Hordak in this ep too. It’s... the last time they ever speak in the show. But the way Hordak is still so angry at Catra for what happened, he presumably thinks Entrapta’s dead or something, and he is more than willing to erase his memories, but is still... terrified. Like, Hordak has so many feelings about Catra, because of her betrayal and how they had been working together and he thought for a moment they could relate with each other but it turned out to be built on a lie, and if only he had figured it out sooner, figured out Catra’s deception rather than sulk about it like a teenage boy, he’d still have his friend.  

Catra feels... terrible about this. She has every right to hate Hordak, and yet still feels awful about what shes done to him and what Prime’s doing to him, and still nearly found comfort in him being present, until he hard rejected her and got traumatically mindwiped.  

The music that plays during these scenes, when Prime is onscreen, it is so terrifying. This continues to be the case through to the finale, but it’s especially effective here, before he has shown any vulnerabilities.   

And... Catra deciding to do her villain u-turn to rescue Glimmer, after bonding with her, feels really significant to me. I know she did it “for Adora”, but I find more meaning, personally, in recognising her ability to connect with someone other than Adora, even if she refuses to admit it.  

(The space ship scenes in this ep are SO FUNNY. I often cite the SPACE moment as the funniest scene in the show, and it’s largely because the surrounding scenes are so... tense that having Entrapta’s space fever finally get payoff after 4 seasons, with her having the happiest reaction ever, was so fucking funny. Bow losing it, and Adora being a total himbo, also have series-wide buildup for added comic relief. All we’re missing is Glimmer stabbing things... which we do get in this ep, so it’s fine.)

Hi!! I have questions about Florin. Im most curious about why they ended up in the military and what that means for their relationship with the mc BUT i know you cant answer that. SO. My actual questions:

1) as you've said Florin isnt, well, the most mature person in the game. How long would it take him to accept or work out or just simply end up in a steady longterm relationship with the Mc? Is that even possible?

2) I know you can make them have actual feelings for the mc if you play hard to get and tease him All The Time but he is essentially a very flirty person (which isnt a bad thing in itself) but im curious if he would stay loyal to the mc while they figuring out their relationship?

3) is there a deeper reason why Florin doesn't want to marry or is it more like i love my freedom marriage comes with a lot of responsibility therefore it Sucks and i will Never Do It Ever.

Also. Im obsessed with your games. I just replayed cdlc cus it has been a long time and i wanted to put my mc in ra and i recently played blood money too and man. Did i want to romance that ghost boy. So thank you so much for these games they always make my days so much better.

Thank you so much for getting in touch! 1) I'm not sure that they would ever get in a cohabiting relationship with the MC. It's possible they might have a long-term relationship where they meet every so often and exchange letters, but I don't see Florin settling down in one place physically in the same ways that other characters would - at least not until they were much older, and even then I think they'd still want to travel. I think they probably wouldn't even want to move in with someone on a friendship basis if they could avoid it - they like spreading their wings and having their own space. 2) I wouldn't see Florin being monogamous either, they wouldn't really want to settle down with a single person. If they got into a long-term relationship with the MC, it would be contingent on the MC being content with that; if an MC found that difficult, Florin would probably want to break things off. When they're younger, they don't want the hassle; once they've matured, it's more that they don't want to hurt someone they're having a relationship with. 3) Some people have mentioned headcanons that Florin is aromantic - this is fantastic and I fully support that, though I'm hesitant to point to Florin and claim them as aro representation myself as it wasn't something I was thinking when writing. But headcanons are very much valid and excellent!

In general yes, Florin likes to have freedom in relationships and in life, and they prefer to have their own space and to do what they like without emotional obligations. They're enthusiastic about what's on offer from the world and relationships, and don't want to limit themselves to a single person/place/lifestyle/experience. When they're younger (CdlC and probably into their twenties) this also results in them wanting freedom from consequences of their mistakes. But as they gain more life experience and maturity, they might become more considerate of others. I'm so happy you've enjoyed my games, and that you liked Luis! He was a lot of fun to write!

i pretty much write things in one sitting or not at all lmao. i dont tend to take on a lot of series and stick to one shots as well. unless its over 8k i probably wrote it in one day. even the ones longer than that usually took less than a week from start to publication (for example, paladin!aelwyn fic is 15k and took 4 days of actual writing over less than a week to write, edit, and publish)

What are your writing strengths?

i feel like im best at dialogue and tend to get a lot of compliments on in-character voices. dialogue is my favorite to write lmao. i also think im good at describing spacing and movements, because i tend to think like. almost exclusively verbally and like?? physically?? if that makes sense?? when i write i picture almost nothing but i can "feel" what the character is doing. like i imagine making the gestures and everything but dont necessarily see anything as a picture in my head

(fun fact: for actual play fic i actually uh. picture the players acting it out, not the characters in the world. lmao whoops. like the first draft of it at least is 'what does this look/sound like at the table' and then i make it into a fic)

What are your writing weaknesses?

coming from the last question, definitely description, again because i picture almost nothing when i write. i have a VERY VERY hard time thinking with visuals. even when im coming up with description, i just THINK WORDS that would describe something, not picture it. so a lot of time i have to base my description on something or im just like. pulling descriptive words out of my ass with no basis. and the visual of it doesnt always make sense to other people. the other thing i struggle a lot with is action scenes, rip

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

i think there's a time and a place and a right way to do it. i think with anything, it's not a "write what you know" but "know what you write". if youre writing someone multilingual, understand how multilingual people actually talk and use those languages. i think the closest i've gotten is "writing signs" for amaya from dragon prince. obviously thats not exactly the same, but for those fics i went back and forth between translating what she was saying, giving the exact signs without grammar, or just describing the movement of the signs. i dont know that i did it perfectly, but i did my best and learned from it. everything in those fics was knowledge i gained from my ASL classes in college (mostly taught by Deaf teachers)

Have any of the Phandom ever pointed out how it doesn't look good that a good portion of the human bullies are people of color? Like, I want to think it's unintentional on the writers part, but aside from Tucker and Valerie, who started out as a mean girl, every other not white character is a jerk

ok a) yes and this is a hartman hate club but. b)

-the main bully, like THE singular bully, is dash, who is just a rich white blonde man

-kwan is actively shown to be the ‘nicer’ of the bullies, hes forgiving and kind and gentle a lot (’hey im sure it was an accident’ and ‘the fluffy clouds all look like footballs’)

-star is also one of the popular bullies and shes white

-paulinas portrayal is messed up in every way (shes like an irredeemable shallow bitch, shes the ‘sexy latina’ stereotype, etc...) but at least she is a love interest sometimes instead of a straight up villain (for me personally i think her self-centered ‘bitchy’ attitude is actually perfect and i love her for it although i do understand that the writers were probably not celebrating it)

-the only other casper high characters we see are danny, jazz, sam, val, and tuck. danny and jazz are siblings so if one was white the other ‘had’ to be white (eschewing adoption and mixed race kids). sam is jewish (although a lot of ink could be spilled on the shitty implications of writing a jewish character who is secretly rich). val is written a LOT like an ‘angry black woman’ stereotype before she becomes the huntress, but she does genuinely get am arc and becomes a close friend of danny (for a time anyway). and of course tucker is black. 

yes it seems very disproportionate and i dont want to defend it but i think its worth pointing out that we may be conflating the number of characters in Danny’s friend group with the number of characters in the popular kids. we SEE more popular kids by and large because danny only has sam and tucker; dash, star, kwan, paulina, dale(?), other miscellaneous background bullies, valerie, etc etc (its also worth noting that a lot of unnamed bullies are white). when you take the main trio and the main 4 bullies (and we count sam be jewish as nonwhite), dannys friend group is actually only 30% white while the bullies (dash, star, paulina, kwan) are 50% white; and even in that group, kwan is (as previously mentioned) played as more of a big softie half the time

the QUANTITY of characters of color in the popular kids is higher, yeah, but thats because theres a larger group. a group of 200 people will have more poc than a group of 5 people just because thats how numbers work

of course this doesnt excuse the writers for playing into a lot of shitty stereotypes to pull this off (sexy latina, angry black woman, secretly rich sjw jew) (weird how that only happens with women :thinking emoji:) but i dont necessarily think that the villains are disproportionately poc. and thats only considering students at casper high; when you factor in ghosts the ratio tips hard into all-white 

(vlad, betrand, and spectra have human forms that are definitively white; freakshow is white; sidney poindexter (and HIS bullies) are white (/italian, however you count that); technus’s facial structure is very white; johnny 13 (and potentially kitty) are also p clearly meant to be white; the only times you can say a ghost ISNT white is when it deliberately relates to the backstory ie with desiree (which again, is another stereotype but right now we’re only looking at numbers) or hotep-ra. the ghosts are also always bigger antagonists than the humans bc thats the main point of the draw)

like yeah a good portion of the human bullies ARE poc but thats just because we know more bullies than we know friends of danny (loser nerd has no friends lol). im not trying to defend it and say it isnt problematic at ALL per se but i do think its worth noting that in terms of numbers its not really. THE worst it could be. when i started watching dp for the first time i was actually impressed by how many poc attended casper high; i couldnt believe that the main popular girl love interest wasnt white. theres a lot of representation in the background cast too. no it sure isnt perfect and we can definitely do better now (and we probably could have done better than) but i definitely dont think it was malicious.

again also worth restating: the only main recurring irredeemable asshole at the popular table IS dash. paulina’s just a ditz and dannys allowed to crush on her; kwan is baby (literally); valerie has an entire arc. dash, the white boy, is the singular student whos defining trait is being an asshole; even when you THINK hes having development (pirate radio, micro management) he completely undoes it by the end of the episode. i think making the whitest popular kid also the biggest most irredeemable bully was a sick call (also mr lancer is a strong antagonist oftentimes in casper high and he is also white; principal ishiyama isnt white but shes never an antagonist while lancer is)

all in all i like that dp just has a lot of characters of color and its never really addressed like tucker just Is Black and sam just Is Jewish its never like a thing(TM). again i keep saying it but this doesnt excuse it, i just dont think its like, horrible or anything. u can be critical of media and recognize its flaws while also recognizing its successes and not assuming its automatically doing the worst thing it could
