Lynette Noni deserves more appreciation
Lynette Noni is an Australian Author and her books are amazing. They consist of
The Medoran Chronicles - YA fantasy, Harry Potter x Xmen vibes
Summary: Alexandra Jennings steps through a doorway to find herself in another world, Medora. While waiting to find a way home she attends a boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. There she makes friends and learns that a threat is looming, in which she might be the only one to save Medora.
Books include: Akarnae, Raelia, Draekora, Gravevale, Vardaesia and We Three Heroes (We three heroes is a set of 3s novellas each based on, one of Alex's best friends and their involvement/reaction to what is happening and roughly takes place between the events of Gravevale and Vardaesia)
The Prison Healer Series - Fantasy, Dark YA, elemental powers
Summary: Kiva has spent the last 10 years of her life at Zalindov, a death prison, waiting for her family. When the Rebel Queen is sent to Zalindov, Kiva must fight to keep her alive. ( I can't say much more because there are so many twists and turns and betrayals and revolutions that I don't want to spoil the whole series)
Books Include: The Prison Healer, The Gilded Cage and The Blood Traitor
Whisper Duology - YA science fiction, Stranger Things Eleven plotline vibe x Xmen
Summary: A girl only known as "Jane Doe" has been locked away in an experimental lab for 2 1/2 years and hasn't spoken a word. But when a new evaluator comes and starts to chip away at her walls, one word could change the world. As secrets start to unveil and twists and turns around every corner. Nothing is as it seems. (Also it is set in Sydney Australia which is where I live and its so weird reading about places I have gone to, in a science fiction novel)
Books Include: Whisper and Weapon

As a mama, it’s hard to find the time to read anymore. Here are the few books I’ve read this year and I’ll end this with the book I’m currently reading🩷🤍
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is it 🥲
Faculty Club by Danny Tobey was fun… and then it felt very rushed and cheap at the end. Glad I only got this for $1.25 at Dollar Tree.
Conceal, Don’t Feel by Jen Calonita was a really good read. I felt like I was watching an alternate version of Frozen. It’s also part of a series that I am trying to collect but am falling behind on.
The Observations by Jane Harris has been my favorite in a WHILE. I love the time period its set in. I love how the past of the main character flows with the present. When flashbacks happen, it doesn’t feel abrupt. I hope that makes sense. I just REALLY love all the twists and depth this novel has. I also looked it up and this book was a finalist for an Award and I see why.
Now for my current read that I bought at goodwill (I also got the last book I talked about at goodwill)

Whisper by Lynette Noni
So far I’m enjoying it and I just checked and it’s actually the first book of a series. I don’t really LIKE reading series or books with part 2s. The Twisted Tales Series by Disney and Harry Potter is as far as I would go.
Its about a girl that hasn’t spoken in the two and a half years she’s been at a secret government facility that she calls her “Prison.” This book is in first person. We are Jane Doe. She is cuffed and escorted to and from various therapy sessions because she knows that she’s a threat but the cuffs they bind her with wouldn’t stop her if she REALLY wanted to cause them harm. That is all I will say.

You'll die for me, Tee? Aww<3
If you had to choose a book to reread for the rest of your life. What would it be?
i would die for you <3
I actually don’t read individual books that much so if I had to pick a series it would be either Whisper and Weapon by Lynette Noni or Rangers Apprentice by John Flanagan. Both are extremely good and I recommend that everyone reads them.

When I read the back cover of Whisper, I was hooked instantly. Superpowers, angst, government cover-ups and testing? Sounds like the recipe for my kind of story.
And, for the most part, I was right!
Whisper kept me engaged and interested throughout, and should serve as a solid base for the upcoming series Australian author Lynette Noni has planned. I liked the main protagonist (Jane, Alyssa, JD, Chip, etc) which is rare for me when it comes to YA literature. I truly cared about her, and grew frustrated when she was treated poorly or felt unable to vocalize her thoughts and emotions.
What was compelling to me from the start was Jane’s inability to use her voice. That is highlighted on the back of the book, and is a substantial piece of her character development. When she Speaks, anything can happen, and she lives in fear of doing something horrible that she cannot undo. For me, this is the nightmare scenario: not being able to communicate when every part of you has something to say. Maybe that is why I empathized so much with this character; I can’t imagine needing to speak and then being unable to do anything about it. For this same reason, maybe that is why (and, fair warning, spoilers ahead) when she is later able to gain control of her ability, I began to lose interest.
My main issue with the story comes from the conflict between the rebels and Lengard (the testing facility in which Jane has been trapped). The rebels tell Jane that that Lengard is a horrible place, and that nothing that she believed about it was true. But that’s not exactly accurate. There are 2 people who are running horrible, inhumane tests on the other Speakers, but the rest of Lengard is completely oblivious, including the director. So why do the characters frame it as Rebels Vs. Lengard rather than Rebels Vs. Those Two Assholes? To me, I feel that the story failed here in terms of understandable and realistic conflict.
This problem is also present when Jane and friends head to the zoo. Why did the rebels feel the need to capture Sneak? I guess it was just to give us something to make them think they were bad guys for (brief) shock value, and to add credence to their claims about Vanik and the trouble he caused a decade prior. These conflicts seem forced and unrealistic, and happen many times throughout the course of the story. I’m not even going to touch on Landon’s behavior, because I honestly don’t know where to begin. It’s not great either; I’ll leave it at that.
This review is a bit all over the place, but that is largely because my feelings about this book are all over the place. I really enjoyed the pacing and the overarching plot of the book. I liked Jane, and several side characters, such as Cami, Enzo, and the director’s children. I loved that there were two generations of Speakers, giving a voice (lol) to an older set of supers.  But the conflict throughout, both with Landon and just… with everything? Was not realistic. It felt forced, and I found myself rolling my eyes a good bit.
Overall, Whisper is a fun read that should get you excited for the next installment. Hopefully its sequel will have some conflict between characters that feels a bit more genuine. 3.6/5 Stars!
