honestly it's just frustrating. you have people finding misogynistic cishet dudes and defending their emotional neglect of their sexual partners because it superficially resembles aromanticism even when the men themselves do not identify as aromantic and are often neglecting their sexual partners specifically because they view a girlfriend as the only type of woman who deserves any type of effort and so if the chick they're fucking isn't their girlfriend they can treat her like dirt. and then when people are rightly like "hey fuck you for defending a misogynist" the same people who claimed the cishet guy who never at any point claimed to be aromantic was aromantic and therefore criticizing his misogyny is arophobia go into the aro tags to despair at how many people HATE aromantics so they can whip a bunch of bystanders into a frenzy because they've heard that people are discrediting aromanticism, and therefore are encouraged to read the original unrelated posts or people getting pissed at someone defending emotional abuse by calling it aromanticism in bad faith or not at all, and so you get a mountain of people theorizing that the attack on cishet aro men was manufactured by TERFs instead of people who think that girls who date guys deserve dudes who don't see them as a freelance contractor they can expect sex from without having to treat them with the bare minimum respect they feel a girlfriend is owed.

Something something about how the fandom is both villainizing Ashton/Taliesin and infantizing Fearne/Ashley even though Fearne/Ashley are grown women who did in fact choose to not have the shard and thought it should go to Ashton and said so both in this ep and in 4 sided dive (which some of you would know if you actually watched it)

honestly just gonna start blocking anyone who goes into the #buddie tag with some high & mighty post about ship discourse. you really think a rant is gonna convert people to your mindset as all it does is come off as condescending & patronizing, when there's also already dozens of identical posts just like it?

billions also comedy gold presenting winston as a scapegoat for abuse culture fans when it's like but hey it can't be actual scapegoating if you Enjoy It or consider it Justified or experience Reassurance from Its Opportunity For A Group Cohesion Substitute For A Cohesion Based On An Inherent Equal Degree Of Belonging, The Absence Of Which Allows For, Encourages, Reinforces, & Rewards Scapegoating
it can't be Bullying if someone's Weird or you Just Don't Personally Like Them or Nobody's Actually Stopping You, Maybe At Least If They Don't See Too Much Of It, Maybe Others Are Supporting It
it can't be Abuse if you're just doing things Normally or are Following Rules or Aren't Feeling Malicious And Aren't Getting Divine Revelations Otherwise and probably it's just that a lot of abnormal people are being whiny &/or unfair &/or the Real malicious ones. kinda just like how that scapegoat is the real person ruining everything and really just forcing you to treat them like this

I do think there is a level of Angel-blindness in the buffy fandom as a whole, which I get because we largely see him through Buffy’s kind of rose-tinted fondness of him, but I swear if any other character in btvs did one tenth of the things Angel has done even discounting his actions as Angelus they would be deemed too problematic to stan. And that doesn’t make him a bad character btw but. Idk it just feels like his moodiness and Catholic guilt are sometimes treated as a free pass for all his fuck ups while other characters who have done less bad and worked harder to redeem themselves are Problematic and you are Bad if you like them. I’m not an Angel-hater I’m just an Angel-realist

i try not to get too into this argument but truly i can’t stand when people accuse everyone who disliked chibnall’s era of doing so in bad faith. you can say “i thought i was gonna like it, i watched the whole thing, i tried to like it, i liked some things, but overall i didn’t like it and here’s why” and immediately someone starts accusing you of worshipping rtd or nostalgia poisoning or misogyny or being unreceptive to change like omfg. you can defend it if you liked it but don’t make shit up about people just so you can ignore their perfectly valid criticism

There was an... incident involving a man in an orange jumpsuit and some pretty bracelets that were not... properly connected if you catch my drift- at my local train station the other day. I still have no idea what the fuck was happening but it was A Lot and you know me, I have a rule about police- if they're there, I'm not.
but I was telling my grandfather about it and how like, the dude in front of me stopped in his tracks because he didn't know what to do and I was bitching about how that's /stupid/ and how that's how you get hit or involved in an altercation you don't have any business being apart of.
and my grandfather was like 'did you get hurt' and I was like '... no. You taught me better than that. I kept moving, I didn't rubber neck, I stayed aware but didn't draw attention to myself and I kept out of everyone involveds range of motion.'
and he had the audacity to be like 'damn right we taught you better.'
and I'm like...
Sir.
Sir. you also taught me not to walk in front of cars that are stopped and wave you on because they might be purposefully trying to get you in a better position to hit you.
This was not a problem when I lived in the country but I live in the City Now. This is a problem. I sometimes instinctively add like 800+ steps to my step count taking convoluted routes so that I don't have to cross in front of cars without a light.
like, I have PTSD and DID for reasons that have nothing to do with you and your anxiety disorder of a brain- but like, had my childhood been otherwise chill- your lessons and those from your daughter definitely would have wound me up on a couch anyway.
Like, had my childhood not played out the way it did- I think I would have been a fascinating study in whether or not you can *teach* someone to have an anxiety disorder.

Forever crazy to me when people write characters who have canonically (or semi-canonically in Legends) struggled with the Dark side brush Anakin off as a lost cause. Obviously in order to return to the Light you have to want to, I do get that and the characters are likely going to know that, too. But it's just so disingenuous to me when people have these characters be unforgiving and skeptical, ignoring that character's past and experiences. I'm not sure if it's just a lack of knowledge of the characters in question or if they just like using characters as Anti-Anakin/Vader mouthpieces but it really takes me out of a story.
