the thing about the misinformation and the (fake) leaks and the questionable leaks etc etc -- i.e. the ENTIRE mess that's all the "information" we have leading up to S2 that bothers me the most is that this would all be solved if the PR team for Rings of Power would just...do their fucking jobs?

It's not that hard! Just give us little tidbits from official accounts! Post about the goddamn show. Stop leaking to third party fan accounts and just fucking POST. I really do not understand their marketing strategy here. It's not even rage-marketing like S1. It's just bad marketing period. They're not making people mad in a way that makes people want to hatewatch, they're making people mad in a way that turns them off from the production as a whole. It's just genuinely stupid marketing. You HAVE a fandom! Engage with it! Jesus christ. Post production stills. Set and costume designs. Clips. Actor interviews. LITERALLY ANYTHING. It's not that hard!

I've noticed that popular youtubers who do shows reactions, have not reacted to the new season 5 video, do you think there will be many who will not react to season 5 because of the scandal?

despite many conspiracies, the reality is that noah hasn’t been singled out by netflix and they’ve decided to back noah since “the scandal”. he was posted in all the promo since they started production, he was very visible in the first cast picture and he even got a whole ross’ ig post dedicated to him with netflix posting it everywhere for will’s birthday. by now that we just got the first teaser, it’s even clearer that netflix doesn’t see him as a liability or anything like that because we all saw how he was included like everybody else and we even got a glimpse of him sitting down to film an interview that seems to he for the rumored documentary that they are filming alongside the show so he’s totally in their marketing plan for the st5 in a substantial amount just like anybody else from the main cast. the rest of his cast mates have mentioned him multiple times this year alone and the st official accounts are commenting on his page. to me all of that makes it very clear that nobody is shunning or hiding noah in despite of how much people online want it.

now you must be wondering why i had to mention all that, well, if netflix that has a whole PR department decided to back noah right away, then we also shouldn’t worry too much about the impact noah’s presence will have in the overall viewership of the last season. they know that the boycott calls are performative and will barely make any noise by late next year when it’s been confirmed the new season is being released. you know, i’ve also been thinking a bit about how they might even be counting on the fact there's no such thing as bad publicity because let's be real, a lot of people seem to be clearly obsessed with noah asking if he will be or not in the show, and if the rest of the cast is actually shunning him or not, that kind of gossip will make people watch the show out of curiosity whenever we like it or not. netflix isn't spending a penny on this but jobless people online trying to make up rumors about noah in order to laugh at him for being left out are actually creating this air of mystery around him that gives the show free publicity, there's so many people that will tune in just to see how the cast act around noah during the press tour and in the show.

now let's talk specifically about what you're talking about, my answer here is that money talks. youtubers aren't making videos for shit and giggles, they want people to watch so they can get paid. right now the ones skipping stranger things content may fear losing views from their core fan base right now but the supply and demand theory is very clear, by the time the actual season comes out, there's going to be a huge demand of stranger things content and the youtubers won't want to miss out on cashing on that. we also need to point out that st5 part 1 is coming in a bit over a year, so enough time would've passed since everything happened. i expect every sane person would've moved on by then and that way the youtubers will feel safe enough to start posting st content again next year.

Don’t think I’ve ever been frustrated with Louis but I am, like this whole year has been weird you get one moment of feeling something is going to happen than boom silence. I’m tired of getting these damn studio pics from people we don’t know I’m tired of him and these indie rock losers. Like baby you are at the peak of your career you gained so many new fans over the pandemic like why not put that shit to good use. Tease us a little without the vagueness tell us yourself that something is coming. He had so many golden opportunities this year but I feel like now it’s too late Adele is coming and if anything he puts out would do well especially in the summer it’s definitely gonna be hard now. I thought after everything Louis would learn to be better when it comes to handling his career but he and his team seem to have only gotten worse and I never thought that would be possible. I’ve spent the last years blaming his team for the way his career is handled but it’s not like Louis does much himself it’s infuriating to be quite honest. One more indie white boy promo and I’m might lose my damn mind. Like is he unaware that his fans want music.

I feel the frustration too. I mentioned it earlier this year at some point, but sometimes I wonder if he's given up and resigned himself to the current state of his career because it's been so bad for so long. I don't think he has to release music this second if he's not ready, but there is much more that he and his shit team could be doing to capitalize on fans' enthusiasm and start getting people pumped for future music. The fact that the documentary was never posted on his YouTube channel, the live performances of COACOA and Change were never posted on his YouTube channel (even if they're not ready for official release yet), he has posted almost no studio content even while all of these random accounts post it, and he uses his massive social media platform to promote other artists instead of himself...all of these things are not helping him and are frustrating fans.

I've seen people talking about how Adele and Lorde also keep fans waiting for music, but they really aren't comparable. Both of those artists have a ton of locals who will also listen to their music and have teams that will get them on the radio. Louis doesn't have that. All he has is his existing fanbase, and even the most diehard fans can get tired at a certain point and move on. And like I said, for me at least, it's not so much that he has to release a single right now or announce his album immediately. It's just that he should be doing SOMETHING rather than just giving us radio silence until tour.

Ho ho ho! Liam is (alongside all of his spooky content) also giving us Christmas realness and releasing a Christmas song called Naughty List on Friday. There’s clearly a woman’s voice on the song, but he hasn’t credited his mystery collab. There is some speculation that it’s Dixie D’Amelio, but I guess we’ll have to wait for Friday to find out. Liam’s current constant companion Conor has been making back to back appearances in his Tik Toks, lending credibility to my theory that they are roomies right now. Or maybe they just can’t get enough of each other! Harry has stepped up on twitter to retweet one of Joe Biden’s ads and say, “If I could vote in America, I’d vote with kindness”. HSHQ has released Golden merch, including a cute Italian themed hoodie - proving that they CAN make good merch when they WANT TO, but they they don’t want to very often, as they also came out with a T-Shirt that could have been completely ripped off of a tumblr shitpost that made fun of their terrible T-Shirts. They also tweeted a mock-up picture of the new Co-Op live stadium, which looks cool, but shows no signs of being pandemic friendly. 

Louis liked a tweet about his promo, which is one of the rare times he’s chimed in on the discourse. 1075 The River (a radio sation) tweeted, “ugh @/Louis_Tomlinson has my heart”, and @/LTxPromo said, “does your station have @/Louis_Tomlinson music to spin as well?”. Ever the sassmaster, Louis liked the second tweet! Louis made headlines for his support of with Marcus Rashford, and iHeartRadio posted his (warning?) selfie, captioning it, “We get so lost in @/Louis_Tomlinson’s eyes”. Hey what a coincidence - I know someone you can talk to about that! And, speaking of radio promo, Niall (who spent all of yesterday in a studio, making MORE MUSIC we won’t get to hear for a while) went around doing more radio interviews to promote his upcoming concert, even saying about One Direction, “we were just kids when we started, and now there’s kids...kids everywhere!” He didn’t mention any names, but went on to reassure the interviewer (Lorraine) that HE would not be adding to the brood of children any time soon: “I’m comfortable with where I’m at, at the moment”. 

Before we get into the next bit, can we just spend one more gleeful second with the Italian sun shining on our faces and the scent of Christmas pudding? Okay, well. On we go with the “never ending cycle of media speculation”, and our favorite pub dwelling pigs.

Celebtm published part two of their article on Briana and Micheal Straus and it is...a mess. As are, by the way, the instagram comments under that post, but we’ll get there. The article itself is riddled with contradictions: is Louis an involved father who loves his son or is Briana a single mother who is struggling to provide for him? After making a few claims about how involved Louis was with Freddie, Straus went on to say that he himself “wanted to step up and be the man in Freddie’s life” and that “whether or not [Louis is] an absentee father isn’t for me to say”. That is to say, it’s all bullshit. Including, by the way, the initial claim that he was scammed out of his money, as he goes on to say that he told Briana not to worry about paying him back! We often make jokes about these people, but let's be frank: Michael Straus is vile, and the reason that he is suing Briana is because he’s upset he never got to look at her new breasts. That - however ridiculous - is the premise of the case. And if that wasn't messy enough, guess who works for celebtm and is getting in on the action: BOOPSY! Yes, our old pal Boopsy-the-celeb-stalker is also in that mess of a comments section in her official work capacity, letting it be known that she's looking for inside dirt on Briana.

But now let’s dive into what Celebtm had to say about the whole thing, because they have taken a sharp U-turn since part 1 of this article. Hmmm...wonder why? The site remained confused on what their position on Freddie’s parentage was: they leaned heavily on Michael’s quote that said, “he is 100% Louis and Briana’s son”, but also they quoted fans who said that he wasn’t, and then!! They claimed (in the comments section of the instagram post) to have offered to pay for a paternity test for Louis. Well, hey I know a ton of people that would start a gofundme and pay for it themselves (not that we’d need to, uh, I think Louis’ got it covered)! They then claim that LTHQ declined their offer because, “the deal he made with Briana saves him millions. We know she only receives less than 60k a year and the money meant for Freddie goes to … self upkeep for Briana”. This is even funnier today, when Louis’ net worth was calculated at 47 million pounds. 

So here’s where the research gets verbose, but I’m going to attempt to present it as simply and concisely as I can. As far as I can tell, there are two ways for an unmarried man to claim paternity in California: the first is to sign a Voluntary Declaration of Paternity upon the child’s birth, at which point your name goes on the birth certificate (this fits with the birth certificate we’ve seen), and you have full parental rights and obligations (custody and child support included) without a necessary DNA test. The second way is to arrange a court hearing and establish paternity through the courts, which does require a DNA test. If you have signed a VDP and then wish to change your mind, you can either fill out a rescission form (which must be done within 60 days of signing the original VDP but only needs one party’s signature) or you can go to court. Celebtm is claiming that Louis has no rights, and is voluntarily paying 60k a year in order to MAINTAIN this Schroedenger’s Baby situation rather than take a test and end the speculation. Even odder, this claim makes it seem like even LOUIS doesn’t know if Freddie is his or not, and he’s just. Paying this random family for a child that might or might not be his, but he’s not involved. But all of this makes perfect sense if he DID sign a VDP, then immediately rescinded it, and is now paying for something other than child support. 

TLDR: this all looks like a mess that doesn't add up but it all makes sense if he did sign this one document, took it back, and is now paying for something other than child support - let’s call it secrecy rather than silence, because if there’s one thing we know about this family, it’s that they can’t shut up.

I’ve seen a lot of things on Twitter recently about the hype over white ppl vs black ppl at marvel on Twitter about how ppl always hype up the white actors and characters but never the black ones .. and about how the black character don’t get that much attention weather it be interviews or even with social media following ? While I adore some of these friendships, it always bothered me how they make the black/POC characters the sidekicks and best friends:

The problem with this is they get reduced to ‘sidekick/best friend’ when they can cast a black/POC person to be the protagonist instead. Some of those characters are disrespected in major ways in the MCU. They’ve missed several opportunities to introduce more non-white leads. And sometimes they don’t even get them the promo those characters deserve. Ned Leeds for example, Jacob Batalon was the only member of the main cast that didn’t get an official poster/promo for Far From Home, even if Ned has been a major part of Peter’s life and a big character in the previous movies to the point that he had a cameo in IW and Endgame, yet he didn’t get promo for a movie where he actively participates in. 

Or the fact that they kicked out Laura Harrier only to give a romantic relationship a spotlight. And when asked about it, Watts said Liz was probably older because of Laura’s age. Disrespectful af. Laura was very vocal about continuing in the MCU, and she didn’t even ask to be Peter’s love interest, no, she wanted to play a more important role in the franchise. She said she wanted Liz to become Firestar and even hinted that she wouldn’t mind playing Black Cat. People forget to credit her for being the first black lead female and love interest for a Spider-Man adaption. Nobody cared about that, they only said she was only a ‘love interest’ that we shouldn't care about because she's not MJ. And this is exactly the problem when they’re casting black/POC characters. They’re not accessories or representation points. If she wanted to continue and they clearly have space for characters like Betty Brant and Happy Hogan, then why is Liz not getting the same treatment? Sorry, I went off but this makes me really mad. You have no idea how excited Laura was about getting this role. Literally every interview, she mentioned how much she wanted to continue. 

Also, the Latin-American representation. I’m not even going to start with this because lmao I’m getting mad. I hope we see America Chavez, Anya Corazón, and Ava Ayala getting their rightful throne in this franchise.

Damn that ratings drop was brutal! NGL, after what they did in 2x2 I feel avenged but also I do love some of the cast so I feel bad too. Anyway, in your opinion, what do you think is a bigger factor in affecting ratings in an upcoming episode: the ep synopsis or the previous episode itself? Cuz I'm in the fandom and I don't even go searching for a sysnopsis. I highly doubt a casual viewer would. So thoughts?

Yeah, that drop was rather significant. :/

I think there’s more than one reason.

1/ The super long hiatus. Many casual viewers simply forgot the show even exists (there are still people on Twitter, who only now discover that the show wasn’t actually cancelled and is back for S2. I can’t even imagine how many casual viewers who’re not active on social media have no idea the show’s back).

2/ The total lack of promotion for the show between S1 & 2. The official social media accounts went radio silent after S1 ended, there was zero effort to attract new viewers by telling them the show’s on Netflix, or that there would be a S2.

3/ No new content for almost a year. The only new content we (as in 'the people already invested in the show’) got between S1 and 2 was random pics/vids and some spoilers the cast/Carina shared + the NYCC trailer. A trailer in super wonky, distorted quality, yet it still provided better and more exciting glimpses into S2 than the official S2 trailer did (which was only released about 2 weeks prior to the S2 premiere…) So for almost 11 months, there was basically nothing to get people excited unless they were actively looking for news. 

4/ Lacklustre S2 promo. CW promo’s always kinda bad, but the one for RNM is pretty much non-existent. Leading up to S2, there was nothing but the occasional pre-scheduled promo post (with S1 promo pics and clips and the hint to download the CW app or sth like that). And they didn’t even start to promote S2 until about two weeks before to the premiere. They had to cancel a press day bc of COVID-19, instead they’ve organized the weekly IG takeovers now, which are really cool, but also mostly of interest to those who’re already following the show more closely. Any casual viewers are probably unaware.

Currently it seems like the CW PR team pretty much forgot about the show (we didn’t get any 2x03 promo pics prior to the episode, and they didn’t release a preview clip either). There’s basically no effort made to promote the show, and I’m not even talking about huge billboards or AOL Build talks (though stuff like that wouldn’t hurt), just… IDK, keeping things going and flowing between S1 & 2, and actively making more people catch up on S1 on Netflix could’ve gone a long way, y’know. :/

I think the lack of PR on every level is definitely playing a role in the dropping numbers. It shows, that not only didn’t they manage to attract new viewers, they even lost S1 viewers. Whether that’s entirely due to the lack of promo, or is in part to blame on the writing, is impossible to say.

5/ That being said, S1 didn’t exactly end in a good place, and 11 months is a looooong time to forget about characters you may have cared for (just a normal amount :P) a year ago. I don’t know how happy or unhappy casual viewers have been with the show’s writing, but you don’t have such a drop in ratings just from a lack of promo.

No idea whether this will change anything in regards to the writing of the show next season. Who knows how decisions by TV higher ups are made, where the ‘blame’ is put for stuff like that, and whether Carina would actually be ‘ordered’ to make changes? (I don’t really think that will be the case tbh)

For now, we don’t have to worry, S3′s a go, and once that’s wrapped, I doubt the show’ll get cancelled (broadcast syndication/international sales is where The CW makes most of their money, and the more episodes a show has, the more valuable it becomes for syndication and outside-of-the-US sales).

Another bonus: they’re filming in Santa Fe, which is cheaper than LA, Georgia or Vancouver (where many other shows are produced) and comes with additional tax incentives. The cast isn’t as expensive as the cast of most other CW shows either, neither does the show rely on expensive special effects (like all the Arrowverse shows) - all good reasons for the CW to keep the show in production, especially as a mid-season show.

Dropping viewership numbers still suck tho, and I feel sorry for the cast. :(

They’ve been working so hard for almost 8 months to make the show, the least The CW could do is properly promote it, and also look for more opportunities to get the cast out for interviews (like, why isn’t there a single RNM related interview with Tyler about Alex Manes in S2 - a gay amputee veteran character -  or an interview with Trevino, he was at atVfest, and last year he did an interview or two, but apart from that, there’s nothing, and both Trevino and Tyler are two of the ‘bigger names’ on RNM, with people knowing them from their TVD/PLL days).

And please, for the love of humans and aliens alike, up your laaame social media game, CW pr team. The RNM Costume IG account is doing a much better job at promoting the show than you, and it’s NOT ACTUALLY THEIR JOB.

Liam's debut album has been announced and will be out Dec 6! The pre-sale links were found by fans hours ahead of the official, counted-down-to drop, but the official announcement brought lots more stuff along with it. We got title! cover! track listings! (sigh yes right after I said we wouldn't probably see that) merch! special merch bundles! signed merch! a newsletter! a message from Liam! In short, the whole nine yards. "I'm sorry it's taken longer than planned" says the newsletter, and the instagram post features a collage of demanding tweets asking 'where is the album???' before leading into the announcement. He tells us he decided to use the name the fans have called the album by as a nod to us and for the double meaning. The track listings show some Familiar titles including the interesting sounding Both Ways- is it the bi anthem the fans hope for and the tabs speculated? Or is it about a (m/f/f) three-way as previously teased lyrics were thought to suggest? The second half of the track list is all the singles so far (probably to take advantage of how singles sales are factored into album sales), with added (unheard) tracks on various bonus editions including, yes, the Christmas song. There's limited availability of signed colored vinyl of the album, as well as CD and cassette. Later today, the One Show happened, Liam chatted and charmed and talked about the album and sang Stack It Up. He says yeah, I've been talking very freely lately, "it doesn’t really matter what you say, they just take it left anyway, so it really doesn’t matter," and "I just want to be honest about my life and it’s difficult, it’s difficult."

Another listening party for Louis' new single had been added, in Peru, and a DJ from the radio station doing the Mexican one tells us that we should keep an eye on Louis' socials this Sunday because that's when he'll be announcing the single (which I can only assume he was not meant to tell us.) Sony Singapore invites fans to submit questions for Louis, but why? No idea.

Niall did a Wired autocorrect video, lots of fun stuff there, and the vertical vid for NTMY is out, featuring Niall dancing around in tight pants. "This took me 6 minutes to shoot," says Niall and later, a bit randomly, "shake that ass Horan shake that ass!"

Harry's promo continues to be 1) streaming related stuff and 2) following and chatting with louies and larries; some twitter harries are getting real weepy about that second one. Me as Harry having zero interest in whiny haylors and hets, #relatable. Today in Harry liked we have a post tagged #blackharriesmatter, nice, and a baby in a bouncy swing. "Do we know for certain they don't make these for adults?" Harry asks. I tend to believe that the chatty content we see on the boys' socials is, in fact, them, but if you were to make an argument that Harry would not have been able to type that and hit post because he would have immediately been like 'sex swings heh', well, I'll just say it's a very solid sounding case, though if someone was then to argue that that was exactly what he meant, well... I'd hear that out too.

“Hottest Couple of 2019? Y/N and Harry Styles have been photographed together a lot this year. The first time was during the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame where both were there to honor Rock Legend Stevie Nicks. The two were then seen together at the Met Gala and the Gucci Cruise Show over the summer. They were both seen at the VMA’s, where Styles was not performing or nominated for an award. While the two didn’t sit together, they were seen at the same after party. Most recently the two were seen in LA, first Harry was seen attending Y/Band’s/Name’s concert, and then again arriving together at the after party. A few days ago, they were photographed leaving a cafe with Y/N’s famous drummer father, and her songwriter mother. 

While they could simply be just friends, it seems they are extremely close. We’ve reached out to both parties and are still waiting on a comment regarding the status of their relationship. But what we can confirm is that we are here for this coupling and are ready to declare them the Hottest Couple of the Year!”

Meetings, meetings, interviews, and more meetings. That is what your schedule and life had entailed over the last few days. The album would be coming out soon and you all were going over the promo plan. When you received your schedule for the remainder of the year, you couldn’t be happier at seeing some dates in London and the UK. You just hoped that Harry’s schedule worked out for those dates. 

Speaking of Harry, it had been almost a week since he left, and while you were distracted with work during the day, at night it was strange coming home to an empty house. What’s even stranger is that that used to be your norm. It never phased you before coming home and it being silent or that you’d cook dinner for just you. But after having Harry here off and on over the last few months, it changed what you were used to. 

Even though you and Harry had only really been official for a little under six months, you couldn’t help, but wonder what the two fo you would do once you two moved towards the moving in stage. Of course, that was a long away, especially since you’d be going on tour for the majority of 2020, even if you wanted to move in together, that wouldn’t be an option. 

After the photos of you and Harry leaving the restaurant with your parents, dozens of articles were written up and posted online. All of your and Harry’s fan accounts quickly started reposting the pap photos and photos from the events you two had attended previously. There were also accounts that were bad to prove your relationship was fake and being used for publicity. 

You weren’t exactly shocked by this, it happened all the time, but it felt like this relationship was thrown out into the internet more than any of your previous relationships. You had the day off, so you decided to head into the city to go do a spin class and get run some errands before doing things around the house to get ready for the start of promo season. 

You had an assistant that helped with most stuff, but there were a few things you still wanted to do yourself. You had just finished your class and sipped on a green smoothie as you walked around the city. You looked at your phone for a bit before looking back up and when you looked up, you saw something that caught your eye. 

Black posters with the words, “Do you know who you are?” written on them were plastered up on the wall. 

You took a picture with your phone before sending it to Harry with the text, “Excuse me, but what the fuck is this? No heads up for your girlfriend? Rude! ;)” 

You shook your head with a laugh before taking a quick selfie and sending it to him too before heading to your next stop. By the time, Harry replied to you, you were back home, unloading the contents in your bag. Your phone rang as Harry facetime you and you quickly answered it. 

“Do you have something to tell me?” You smirked as soon as you saw his face on the screen. 

“Surprise! My single’s dropping Friday!” He cheered into the camera. 

“Isn’t the whole point of being your girlfriend is knowing these types of things beforehand?” You laughed. 

“So, that’s the only reason, huh?” He raised an eyebrow. “It has nothing to do with my charm, handsome face, talented, gentleman qualities, or the sex?” 

“Yeah, none of that,” you joked. “So, I take it you’ve decided on Lights Up for the single?” 

“I have,” he nodded. “That’s why I was in Mexico filming the video.” 

“The video you still won’t let me see?” you laughed. 

“I’ve got to keep some things a surprise,” he laughed. 

“Well, then I guess I’ll be keeping some things hidden from you too!” You smirked. 

“No fair!” He groaned. 

“It’s extremely fair!” you laughed sticking a chip in your mouth. 

“Anyway, so how’s the meetings been going?” He asked. 

“Great,” you said. “I got my schedule for the rest of the year and there are some dates over in your neck of the woods.” 

“Really?” He smiled. “When?” 

“Well, you’ll just have to wait and find out,” you joked. 

He laughed shaking his head. 

“Are you going to have any promo coming up?” You asked taking the phone out to the backyard. 

“Yeah, Jeff and the team is getting everything finalized,” he said. “There’s some talk with SNL.” 

“Oh, fun,” you smiled. “Musical guest?” 

“Actually, double duty,” he said. 

“No fucking way!” You gasped. 

He smiled, “Yeah, I’m shocked. It’s still in the works and a date hasn’t been set yet, but it most likely will happen.” 

“Okay, I really hope it’ll be when I can be in New York,” you said. “I can’t miss that.” 

“I hope you can be there, too,” he smiled. “But I’ll understand, if you can’t.” 

“So, have you seen all the articles about us?” You asked. “Apparently, we’re the Hottest Couple of the year.” 

“Well, I mean, we kinda are,” he joked. 

You laughed, “I miss you though. I know it’s only been like a week, but it’s weird you not being here. Suddenly this house feels huge.” 

“I miss you, too, baby,” he sighed. “And it’s weird knowing you’re so far away.” 

“At least we’re in the same boat together,” you smiled. 

He nodded, “That we are, that we are.”

It’s a few days later and you were currently at a video shoot in the middle of the night. You were tired, your legs were swore from dancing, and it was starting to get a little chilly. But it was nice being surrounded by people during the late hours instead of being home alone. While you were waiting for your next take, you sipped on hot chocolate, trying to warm yourself up a bit. 

“Why did we agree to this?” Rachel groaned. “I’m freezing my tits off!” 

“It could be -25 degrees out here and your tits would still be well intact,” you laughed. 

“Hey! It’s not my fault my mother gave me these,” she laughed. 

You giggled, “But in all honesty, we were going for the aesthetic this brings.” 

“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” she mumbled taking a seat next to you. “So, when are you going to give me some details?” 

“Details?” You asked. 

“About you and Harry! We haven’t heard many updates recently,” she said. “How’s everything going?” 

“We’re great,” you smiled. “We’re really happy and enjoying our time together.” 

“I’m glad,” she smiled. “I know I say this every time, but I’m really happy you two met and you were willing to give him a chance.” 

“I am, too,” you smiled. “I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy in a relationship ever or this soon.” 

“Well, it could be that you’ve finally found the one, babe,” she smiled. “It won’t always be easy, but it’ll be worth it.” 

A few hours later, you were finally finished with the filming and able to head home. You were practically dead on your feet and were happy you had previously arranged for a driver to pick you up. When you got to your house, you got out of the car and practically dragged yourself down the driveway. 

You put your keys in the door to unlock it and as soon as you were inside, you shut the door and dropped your things. When you walked further in, you noticed a large bouquet of roses on the kitchen table that weren’t there before. To say you were a little freaked was an understatement, but you were so tired, you didn’t really think anything of it. Maybe those were already there and you just didn’t remember. 

You grabbed some water from the fridge and headed upstairs, ready to undress and slide into bed. Luckily, you were off in the morning and could sleep in before your lunch meeting. When you got up to room, you heard something coming from the bathroom. You stopped in your tracks, trying to figure out what it was or who it was. You held your phone in your hand, ready to call the cops, in case it was someone who broke in. 

There was a shoe nearby, so you grabbed it as you walked over to the door. The door wasn’t shut all the way letting you open it without whoever was in there hearing you. The sound of the sink turning on confirmed that you weren’t just hearing things. You pushed open the door, closing your eyes, and throwing the shoe in the person’s direction before rushing out into the room. 

“Ow! Fucking hell,” you heard them groaned. 

Just as you were typing 911 on your phone, Harry walked out into the bedroom, with only a towel around his waist while holding your shoe in the other hand. 

“Uh, is there a reason you hit me with a shoe?” He laughed rubbing the top of his head. 

“Is there a fucking reason you just showed up at my house in the middle of the night without telling!” you groaned. “How was I supposed to know it was you and not like a robber or something?” 

“Well, if I was, you’re first choice of taking me down was a shoe?” He asked. 

“It was the first thing I grabbed!” you groaned. 

He laughed walking over to you, “I’m sorry, I scared you. I was hoping I’d be done with my shower before you got home. I was going to greet you at the door.” 

You wrapped your arms around him, “Seriously, I can’t believe you’re here right now,” you smiled. “I mean you are really here, right? This isn’t just me being sleep deprived?” 

“I’m really here, baby,” he smiled, kissing your head. 

You smiled looking up at him, “How’s your head?” 

“I’ll survive,” he laughed. “But you on the other hand, look like you’re about to pass out. Let’s get you into bed.” 

“Oh, would you?” you laughed jumping up into his arms. 

He laughed holding you with one arm, “Only if you kiss me first.” 

“Don’t have to ask me twice,” you giggled pressing your lips against his before he carried you over to the bed.

Super Drags review (tl;dr Show Good)

The post where I do my best to spread the Good News, that there exists a saucy gay drag-queen magical-girl animated comedy and everyone should watch it.

Okay, not everyone -- I'll give some caveats at the end -- but definitely a heck of a lot more people than Netflix has bothered to advertise it to.

Look at this! Why did nobody tell me about this??

What is Super Drags?

Fast facts:

It's a 1-season, 5-episode adult animated comedy series, released in November 2018

Here's the official page, with a free-to-view trailer

It packs more explicit, unashamed queerness into those 5 episodes than any other cartoon I can think of

The only possible competitor would be if you took the whole 5000-episode run of Steven Universe and pared it down to a supercut of Just The Gay Parts

This in spite of being produced in Brazil, which (in my broad understanding, as a total non-authority on the subject) is more oppressively, dangerously homophobic than the US

The original is in Portuguese

There is an English dub, fabulously voiced by contestants from RuPaul's Drag Race

It's wrapped in "for adults only!" warnings, not because the content is any less child-friendly than (say) your Bojacks Horsemen or your Ricks and Mortys, but because Brazilian authorities tried to get it shut down on the grounds of this much gay being Harmful For Children

It was (heartbreakingly) not renewed for a second season

Plot and worldbuilding stuff!

The elevator pitch is "What if Charlie's Angels, but also drag queens, with superpowers, because magical-girl transformations?"

In this universe, all LGBTQ people have magical energy. The Big Bad is an evil magical-drag-queen nemesis who tries to drain our energy for her own purposes. It's like if Ursula from The Little Mermaid was a first-season Sailor Moon villain.

...sidenote, in case you were worried, the representation isn't "cis gay men and nobody else." There's a butch lesbian in the recurring cast, a genderfluid person (in that specific word!) as a one-off love interest, and all the ensemble scenes are wonderful collages of different races, body types, and gender presentations.

Our heroes also fight non-magical everyday homophobes, who get written with scathing realism.

The moment I knew the show wasn't pulling any punches was in the first episode, where a newscaster complains about being Silenced by the Law of Political Correctness, then chirps "however, we have a special guest who is thankfully above the law!"

According to the reviews I've found from Brazilian viewers, it's also pitch-perfect when it comes to local queer culture, community dynamics, slang and speech patterns, even memes. All of which flies right over my head, so here's a post (with no-context spoilers) about one viewer's favorite details.

The handful of reaction posts on Tumblr have a dramatic split between "Brazilian viewers fiercely defending the show as culturally-accurate, uplifting, and brave in a terrifying political moment" and "American viewers complaining that the show is problematic because it's a comedy about drag queens with no perfect role models and lots of sex jokes."

As the Super Drags tell their nemesis (and this is also in the first episode): "How dare you try to turn the LGBTQXYZ community against each other? We do enough of that on our own!"

In between missions, our girls work sitcom retail jobs and deal with other everyday problems. All of which are written in amazingly nuanced and thoughtful ways for a show that also features "defeating an orgy monster with a lip-sync battle."

Detailed character stuff!

Our heroes are Color Coded For Your Convenience!

The Super Drags themselves go by "she" in-uniform, and a lot of the time when out of it. Like the Sailor Starlights, only more so. I'll roll with that.

In blue: Safira Cyan, or Ralph by day, an excitable college-age kid who's built like a football player and squees like a fangirl. (She's an anime fan in the original, and for some reason all the otaku references were replaced in the dub, but you can see them in the subtitles.)

Ralph lives with her younger sister (they play video games together!) and their dad, comes out to them mid-series, and is very shippable with another young guy who starts out reciting the homophobic beliefs he was raised with but whose heart clearly isn't in it.

Safira's weapon is a classic magical-girl wand that casts protective force-fields. Which are shaped like condoms. Because of course.

In yellow: Lemon Chiffon, aka Patrick, the oldest of the group and generally the smartest/most strategic. In most cases, the other two treat her as the de facto team leader -- unless she pushes it too far.

By day she's a single guy with thick thighs and thinning hair, who has some body-image insecurities on the dating scene. And this show has Things To Say about unrealistic beauty standards within the community...not to mention, about masc guys who look down on anyone too flaming or femme because straight people disapprove.

Lemon's weapon is a fluffy boa that can be used as a whip or a lasso, especially when there's a bondage joke to be made.

In red: Scarlet Carmesim, also Donizete, the loudest and most aggressive teammate with the most cutting insults, who refuses to suppress that attitude in an attempt to appease racists. (But will give it a shot when trying not to get fired.)

Donny still lives in her religious/homophobic mom's apartment, and I'm pretty sure it's because neither of them can afford to move out. Her rock-solid sense of fierce self-confidence is the reason it doesn't bring her down.

Scarlet's weapon is a fan that she uses to throw shade. Yeah, you knew that was coming.

The Charlie to these angels is Champagne, who runs operations from a cool magitech compound and breaks the fourth wall at the end to petition for viewers' support in getting a second season.

...we let her down, folks :(

So here's a thing. The show never draws a sharp line between "people who become drag queens because it's a way they're driven to express themselves as gay men" and "people who become drag queens because they were trans women all along." That's consistent with how South American LGBT+ culture works. (Again: best of my knowledge, not personally an authority on this, etc etc.)

Many of the characters, including Champagne, never describe themselves in ways that translate to one of our sharply-defined Anglo-USian identity categories. And I'm not going to try to impose any English labels on them here.

But I can say (in contrast to Safira, Lemon, and Scarlet), Champagne never switches out of her "drag" name/voice/presentation, not even in the most candid off-duty scenes, and still has the same bustline when naked in the tub. Make of that what you will.

You Should Watch This Show

If you have a Netflix subscription, watch Super Drags!

If you ever do a Netflix free trial month in the future, make a note to yourself to watch Super Drags!

It's one of their original productions, so there's no risk of missing your chance because the license expired. But it's absolutely not getting the promotion it deserves. Which means potentially interested viewers won't find it, which means Netflix will think there's no interest, which means they'll keep not promoting it...etc etc etc.

No idea if there's any chance of getting it un-canceled, but maybe we can at least convince them to release it on DVD.

And the sheer gutsiness it took for a group of Brazilian creators to produce this show in the first place -- that deserves to be rewarded with your attention.

In spite of various anti-discrimination laws that sound good on paper, the country has serious problems with homophobia, transphobia, and anti-LGBT violence (warning, article has a violent image which is only partly blurred).

Maybe the creators could've gotten a second season if they made this one softer, less sexually-explicit, more restrained...but honestly? I bet that wouldn't have helped.

Consider Danger & Eggs, an Amazon original cartoon. It was made in the US, thoroughly child-friendly, and restricts its LGBT+ representation to things like "characters go to a Pride celebration...where nobody ever names or describes the quality they're proud of."

And it didn't get renewed past the first season either.

(Note: it had a trans woman showrunner and a queer-heavy creative staff, so I blame all that restraint on executive meddling, not the creators themselves. The showrunner even liked the tweet of my review that complains about it.)

So there's something very satisfying about how Super Drags went all-out, balls-to-the-wall (sometimes literally), all the rep explicit and unapologetic, packing every 25-minute episode with all kinds of queer content that would be censored or muted elsewhere -- but here it's exaggerated and celebrated and just keeps coming.

(...as do jokes like that, and I'm not sorry.)

Okay, there are a few legitimate reasons to not watch this show

Some caveats.

None of these things are Objectively Bad Problems that the show itself should be shamed for...but maybe they're genuinely not your cup of tea.

It does have actual Adult Content beyond "the existence of gay people." This show loves to swing barely-clothed cartoon genitalia in your face. There is, as mentioned, an orgy monster. If that kind of humor is going to bother you too much to appreciate the rest of the show, give it a pass.

I wasn't kidding about how realistic the homophobes are. Opening of the first episode has a guy trying to murder a busload of people while shouting slurs at them. If that level of hatred on-screen is gonna crush your soul, even in a show about sparkly queens flying to the rescue with dick-shaped magical weapons, don't push yourself.

Any fiction with this much crossdressing and gender-transgressing is going to hit some trans viewers in a bad way. Because trans people are such a broad group, with so many different experiences, that Every Possible Trope Involved pushes somebody's buttons. (See also: "some trans readers complain about a storyline that turns out to be drawn from a trans writer's actual life experience".) If this show goes does gender things that turn out to be personally distressing for you...or even just distressing for this specific time in your life...don't feel obligated to keep watching.

It has aggressively-sassy queer characters making jokes and calling each other things that are affectionate in-context, but would not be okay coming from straight/cis people. If you can't wrap your head around that, go watch something else.

Other Than That, Go Watch This Show

For all its big heart, big ambitions, and big gay energy, Super Drags is tiny enough that I've binged the whole show 2 times in the past 2 weeks. Thankfully, it's highly re-watchable -- lots of fun background gags and subtle foreshadowing that you don't catch on the first round.

(Pausing one last time to appreciate that a show with elements like "the high-tech robot assistant is called D.I.L.D.O." can be subtle at all, let alone be this good at it.)

I've also paged through all the fanart on Tumblr and Deviantart, looked up the single fanfic on the AO3, and started brainstorming plans to request it in Yuletide next year. Someone, please, come join me in (the English-language side of) the itty-bitty fandom for this ridiculous, glittery, over-the-top, fabulous series.

I am a bit frustrated with LM because sometimes promo seems so disjointed because they don't really advertise what they do/where they go on their main account. I feel like they started doing some stuff just for content like a youtuber kinda thing with those cooking vids etc and then they dropped it? same with the make up line and clothes? like something is uhmazing for a week and then it's gone forever?

I totally agree with you. It feels like they start a project, the love it for the time being and then when they are tired of it, they almost pretend it never happenend lmao the thing is, if you take a look at how things have been managed for the ~announcement of the second single you can totally see how the person (or people) who is currently managing their official group social media accounts isn’t properly doing things with much of a sense imo like, the picture with the hints in it? Sometimes they share that picture only on their story, other times it’s only on twitter so it can be confusing for someone who tries to catch up a few days later. I understand that they’re doing this for the hardcore fans but it lowkey doesn’t look that professional. Twitter stans have started trending ‘LITTLE MIX NEW SINGLE’ for example, what if someone was curious, clicked on the trend and then when they tried to go to their official social media accounts they saw nothing (because there’s actually nothing about a new single so far unless you’re super involved with them to know this) and their curiosity ended there. And maybe they even got confused as per why this random group’s fans started trending that. Like, I don’t know if I’m making sense but what I’m trying to say is, they are on their 6th album and we have to be extremely honest here: they’re not doing as good as they were back in 2015/2016 before you all come at me, this is normal I mean.. they had a huge lead back then so it helped a lot Break Up Song hasn’t left the top 40 in the uk only because of the big push they had on radios (it was like #2 for quite awhile and it was top 5 almost on its entire run, now its #14 which makes sense because of the new songs coming out and because they’ll focus on the new track) and considering the pandemic it did alright even though they did a handful amount of radio promo. Streaming wise the song did.... okay I guess. But back on what you’re saying, sorry I kinda went off topic there lmao, it does feel like that. I think that their YouTube videos were great content, possibly used for the promotion of Bounce Back and I don’t know if I remember wrong, if I do please hit me up, but they said that there was more from that to come? lmao. LMX, they were pretty excited about that, I still think they kinda care but the official IG account stopped posting at the end of 2019 and I wonder if this is because of what’s going in the world or if they’re actually going to end that as well. It honestly felt like they were going to publish more products, we got more pictures, and then.. it was it. I guess we’ll see if it was a one time thing. Maybe their team just wants them to do 8293939 things so that they can get tons of profits, which sucks and I hope it’s not the case, especially now that they don’t work for Syco anymore. Hopefully we’ll get to see a better promo pattern, they deserve that.

To be honest, I can understand having an official personal photographer, even aside from tour. Didn’t Steve Aoki have one? Although one could argue he is constantly touring. But the issue is that, indeed, all Louis content comes exclusively from Jordan Green.

All content from Louis’ channels is by him. And there is nothing else.

Like @goodmorningtoyouuniverse put it: he is the gatekeeper of Louis content. All Louis content comes through him. And that matters because it means all Louis content for both fandom and GP is filtered by Jordan Green - even more problematic if we consider his ties to Syco.

I insist on it making no sense whatsoever for Louis’ IG to have the piano picture with no caption, while Jordan Green provides context in his IG story. It gives him an absurd level of importance? He had more to offer on his account than Louis’ own account, and that is not normal. Didn’t we find out about the House of Solo feature from a FB conversation between Jordan Green and his friend? That doesn’t seem normal either.

And, looking at Niall and Liam, and Steve, as well - they have a photographer, but that photographer is showcasing and highlighting them - Jordan seems more focused on his aesthetic, without making adjustments to make it work for Louis, to Louis’ best advantage. I hope they don’t mind if I mention their tags; @missrefridgefreetorator pointed out how Post Malone’s photographer - despite his image as someone who smokes weed and drinks - doesn’t keep the focus on that. And in that aspect we have to take into account the damage done to Louis’ image - again and again his press has been about his chaviness, clubbing, smoking, the idea of his irresponsible drinking… remember the Simon Cowell story from when he was eighteen that did the rounds during BTY promo? 

Furthermore, even with photographers, for the most part, artists provide content themselves too: selfies and IG stories with the phone in their hand. And I’d argue in Louis’ case, after years of selfies, the lack of them these last months is even more striking.

And since September - where has Louis been seen outside of XF? No industry events, no hanging out with other artists, no performances or interviews, obviously. Just XF and XF related. Then clubbing (with Eleanor) for the XF final, his birthday, and New Year’s. On his sibling’s IG for Christmas. And on Jordan Green’s and Eleanor’s IG.

I’m veering off topic. But, the point is that, no, in my opinion, this isn’t normal. Jordan Green isn’t some saviour providing Louis content and shouldn’t be viewed as such. Pictures in the studio on their own accounts is the bare minimum for an artist - and the least Louis deserves - and those pictures should be the best for the artist. And there is no good reason why Jordan Green should be the only source of Louis content, with all the implications of that.

This busy week started off with some great filming news; Someone walked thru the set and saw Gillian Anderson reading her script...  (X) We got a video of Brick from the make-up trailer! And a picture of Brick from the same trailer.  

And then, it happened. THE PICTURE of MULDER AND SCULLY IN BED, CUDDLING!!!! According to the new BTS video... The screenshot is not the best, but we have one, at least. It is exactly what we would expect from CC. Mulder’s face is weird, Scully is completely under the sheet. Like literally not a single inch of skin can be seen. But her head is on Mulder’s shoulder and they are sharing a romantic moment. On a sofa. That’s all that we saw and of course, it went how it always goes...we had more questions than we had answers. One thing is for certain, tho. Many many people are gonna go after CC in a very violent way, in case this turns out to be another cheap trick... 😄😄😄 Anyhow, here are some theories and summaries:

you know. sometimes i love something a lot so i need to scream about the things that piss me off about it. i don’t think this is a particularly negative post but it’s just like sheer frustration and if you dont get some satisfaction from articulating your frustration into tumbler dot coms longposts and destroying the capital of this website because you are not a gemini sun then like fair i guess feel free to disregard this. tonbokiris kiwame is cool go look at that.

now to the lukewarm tea ive been simmering for five years. the one thing i always think about all the time is that tkrb is a popular game despite itself. the piss poor gameplay with only the barest of bare QoL in the five years its been up, the seeming complete lack of direction and the frankly nonexistent worldbuilding is held up purely because of its attention to detail and reverence to the original culture and history of the swords combined with some very good character design and subtle but nuanced character writing that can be openly interpreted. just enough flavour to imply something larger but chickening out on actually making anything y’know. concrete. basically allowing the fans to draw their own conclusions. but even then a game like that would not survive cause there have been countless, hundreds of games with high quality and fervent attention to detail and respect for the source material that just died completely because they have such little to actually offer in terms of engagement. i think the main thing that bugs me about tkrb is that it has one of THE most creative, dedicated and strong fanbases of this genre of game who go out of their way to engage with any and all of the content and the devs seem kind of oblivious to this.

in comparison to modern gacha style games, touken ranbu releases barely any new content and frequently recycles content but somehow it’s still relatively popular with approx. 1mil active players daily but the maddening thing is that tkrb can reach much MUCH further. the fans are there, the curiosity is there, it’s just the game content is not fucking there. it does not put the effort into commissioning seasonal art, pushing new events with actual plotline/story content, creating promotional materials, tie-ins etc. but somehow its still in the top 5 comiket circles for nearly five fuckin years straight. here are your badley compiled receipts: c89(w2015), c90(s2016), c91(w2016), c92(s2017), c93(w2017), c94(s2018), c95(w2018), c96(s2019)

 it can launch itself from laughably low in the appstore ratings, hovering in the middle of the 200′s to TOP 30s in the appstore at the flick of a switch. what is this magic button that fucking quadruples revenue and skyrockets your app into the top 50 grossing apps? 3/4 of your characters getting static CGs that you cannot use at all anywhere in the game but will do a powerpoint transition and appear for 5 seconds at login. oh and like a few free mats i guess. and i kid you not it fuckin worked.

wanna know why that worked? it’s cause otherwise characters, especially fan favourites just don’t get anything at all. it’s like most characters outside of the very popular ones rarely get new art, new recollections, new anything outside of their kiwame upgrade which is more often than not years down the line and only recently, four years in, they decided to add alternate costumes but even then there’s a catch which has me feeling some kind of way.

and yes, i fully understand that tkrb is a multi-media franchise, i get that it’s got its fingers in so many pies like the stageplay, musicals, various manga anthologies, the animes, hell its even got live action but man, would it hurt to give some love in game? i’m not asking them to go full fgo route and commission the industry creme de la creme to make 6 full CE illustrations, lots of promo art and tonnes of new merch every single month. but the fact is for such a big franchise, reusing the same sprite art on nearly every piece of official merch, going so far as to add NEW costume art which is just the heads of the old default sprites edited onto new bodies? it screams cost cutting, it screams lazy, the path of minimum effort. it’s almost like the game itself and the original materials are an absolute afterthought at this point with only the most dedicated hanging on to it. i guarantee that the majority of people still playing tkrb are the committed day1 players and the actual rekijou cause it’s just painfully offputting to new fans, with other fans even going out of their way to specify the game is not integral to enjoying the series which sucks, but it’s true.

its a real damn shame to think that something you are so invested in is not particularly invested in itself. sometimes, just sometimes i wish they dev team for tkrb was more hands-on, more adventurous, more willing to listen to players, invest in the game and genuinely try and make the game the best it can be. i’m not asking for balls to the wall summer events, beautiful animated CMs from the likes of the industries best animators, i’m not asking for pages of supplemental lore compiled into books, character backstory novels or whatever i’m just asking for the lore and the characters that we love to sometimes occasionally be remembered in the actual game outside of like ... the two years between their kiwame and the vague possibility of a recollection. i want to feel like this game puts as much effort into itself as the fans do towards it.

it’s a painful truth but there’s one shining light which is that the fandom for tkrb is genuinely one of the most committed and transformative ones ive ever seen. i have never been involved with a fandom that varies so widely and puts in so much effort for these characters and this world. tkrb exists solely as a popular franchise due to the sheer legwork of the fans carrying it on their backs collaboratively. ultimately, tkrb is very very lore-light, there’s so much thats missing and the characters in-game rarely rarely interact with each other. the characters are contained solely in however many voice lines they get at implementation, their kiwame letters, and their updates kiwame lines and the only interaction they get with other swords is recollections or depending on the sword, the odd custom sparring lines.

but despite that there has been so much fan effort to explore everything in so many different varied ways, and amazingly there are certain tropes, relationships, lore etc. that have started off fanon and become canon. the fan community, especially the fanartists, doujins, writers, animators etc. being given a small indulgence by the anime is one of my favourite things about tkrbs relationship with its fanbase. that’s not to say that the fans dont give back in kind a hundred fold.

there’s so much i love about tkrb fans going out of their way to go SEE historical swords in japan, single-handedly reforging swords using crowdfunding and revitalising lots of small-town tourism having real world impact. shit makes me unbelievably happy. the stage plays and musicals are always met with warm reception and are always well attended and even though its hard to access, there are lots of western fans who have dived into a whole new MEDIUM that most of us arent really familiar with but out of their love for tkrb theyve done that. they have hosted the musical as far out as india and france, making tkrb a truly worldwide franchise and there theyve met full seats! as far out as india! then theres the fantranslators, who always have the drive the commitment and energy for the thankless work, the wiki always always is well maintained and they have new content up so fast, and there are so many people willing to help you out. even when crunchyr*ll got hanamaru s2 (i think) a week late and we were left without subs for the premier episode for a whole ass week, fantranslators who had never subbed before stepped up to translate a whole episode for FREE, encoding, subbing and timing it all despite never having done so just so others could understand the episode faster than cr*nchy themselves could. even, as well, it’s made so many history nerds out of a whole bunch of people, it’s created an appreciation for nihontou and japanese history that would otherwise probably never be in their orbit because of how inaccessible it is, especially in english. even on a personal note, i started learning japanese primarily so i could understand tkrb and the history behind it better and to read jp fanart/interact with fanartists.

 no matter what, i am forever warmed by how much i love tkrb and its fanbase and im glad that tkrb is still going strong, even despite itself sometimes and i hope that moving on tkrb tries new things, and becomes better for everyone.

Useful Tools for Editors: Daylight Savings Time Edition

Soundly

Soundly is a cool entry into the world of sound effects that I’ve been trying out recently. It differs from where you might find sound effects in that you don’t interact with Soundly via a web browser. Soundly uses its own desktop app which is what takes it a notch above most other sound effects libraries and search tools. But Soundly is also a service that delivers high quality sound effects right to your project via their desktop app. To gain all the benefits of Soundly a $15 monthly fee is required but there are some benefits that come from a free account. Dig through the Soundly FAQ for answers to a lot of these questions you might be asking.

The Soundly desktop application puts a lot of power right at your finger tips. Above you can see a woosh search that yields results both from the Soundly Pro cloud as well as sounds indexed on my hard drive.

At its core Soundly is the full service but I think the application has a lot to offer as well. In addition to the premium Soundly effects you can also access Freesound.org via the app if you so choose. Soundly can also index and search your existing sound effects that many editors have sitting around to access at a moment’s notice. That puts lots of sound effects options all in one place. If you so choose part of your subscription can be up to 10 GB of online storage to keep your sound effects in the cloud. The waveform preview is a necessity for sound effects browsing and a “dock mode” places the app out of the way. One of my favorite things is being able to highlight just a piece of a found sound effect in the waveform and drag that out to save it or just drag it into your NLE (depending on how your NLE manages media).

Dragging the sound effect to save it is a fast way to get to using it in your project.

When digging through the Soundly website you see a lot of discussion about ProTools but video editors can get great use out of it as well. The big question is this: Does a dedicated video editor need to pay a monthly fee for sound effects? That is for the editor to decide and many (most?) will answer no but depending on what you do or if you can get your company to pay for it Soundly might we well worth the investment.

Worx4 X

If you know the name Marquis Broadcast then you probably know their tagline is moves media. That’s perfect for one of their newest products Worx4 X. This little utility adds a much needed media management function to Final Cut Pro X in that it can take an edit/sequence/timeline/project and copy only the media used in that edit/sequence/timeline/project to a new location. The biggest triumph of this relatively basic NLE function that FCPX has yet to include natively is that it can trim the media used in the edit/sequence/timeline/project to include only what was used in the cut, with user designated handles. I consider this one of the must-have utilities for FCPX if your media types are compatible with that Worx4 X can do.

There’s not a lot to the setup of Work 4 X. The main thing to consider (and what will have the most affect on media size) is the media handle size.

You can see the dramatic reduction in project size here with a trimmed sequence for a 30 second promo out of a much larger edit.

I’ve had good success with Worx4 X (working mainly with all ProRes .mov media) but it’s worth noting some of the limitations especially when it comes to trimming media files as there are some that it can’t trim.  Check the information on the Mac App Store page for those and other limitations before you spend $45 on the application. There’s bit more info on this Marquis page but it would be nice it they could get all of the details and support for Worx4 X onto one single website. I don’t even see a link to their Worx4 support forums without googling it.

PrProBCC – Adobe Premiere CC 2018 Project Converter

I came across this little utility in a Premiere Facebook group and I haven’t tried it myself but when I read the description I did a triple-take. From the PrProBCC – Adobe Premiere CC 2018 Project Converter website:

PProBCC converts Adobe Premiere CC 2018 project files to be compatible with Premiere CC 2015.2 and Speedgrade 2015.1.

It’s a Windows app (though it says you can convert it to a Mac version) and I’m guessing there is a reason that Adobe doesn’t make backwards compatabilty as easy as this but since there is a free trial you can give it a whirl. The cost is around $10 US.

Storyboarder

Storyboarder from Wonder Unit is an amazing looking, FREE storyboarding app that looks like it’s a lot of fun to use. I say free but they do ask for your email to get a download link so just remember what they say about “free.”

This thing looks full of tools and the animation options will add another level of interactivity. The list of features is very extensive so I can’t help but keep wondering why it’s free. The developers address this very question in a profanity laden section of the website. This particular sentence is one that … well … a lot of people might not agree with: “Let’s be completely real – I’ve never known anyone working on dope ass shit to be paying for the software they use anyways.”

I know of and have worked on a lot of dope ass shit that was created on properly purchased and licensed software. If you don’t want to give them your email then hit up the direct download page (for Mac at least) but remember, install at your own risk.

SpeedScriber

SpeedScriber for Mac is officially out of beta and it’s worth mentioning once again as it’s by far the fastest and easiest tool that I’ve used for transcription and, more importantly, correcting transcription. That latter part can’t be glossed over. As amazing and accurate as cloud-based transcription can be if you need it perfect you still have to do some manual correcting and that’s where SpeedScriber holds a big advantage. The interface has been designed to make this tedious process as easy as it can be. It’s still not a fun process but a tool like SpeedScriber makes it both bearable and affordable.

I’ve used SpeedScriber both in the beta and now the shipping version for a few different articles here on PVC. The image above is from an upcoming interview about Lightworks. The hour + interview transcribed very quickly and I was able to get it corrected and ready for proofing in just a couple of hours. Plus there are integration with your NLEs. I tried out the Avid Media Composer integration recently using Avid’s script-based editing.

Button Shortcuts

I always one to want to use the keyboard as much as I can but learning lots of keyboard shortcuts takes time. This little Mac menu-bar utility called Button Shortcuts provides a little dropdown menu with … button shortcuts. It’s free with a number of included apps but the interest to editors is the $3 Final Cut Pro X shortcuts and the $6 Photoshop shortcuts. I wish they’d add one for DaVinci Resolve!

The Cool Stuff in Premiere Pro

We’ve mentioned the book The Cool Stuff in Premiere Pro before but the second edition is special. It’s been updated with some new authors to help out the original author and Premiere expert Jarle Leirpoll and it’s now available in a massive 1200+ page print version. Personally I love the print version since I spend so much time on the computer I think it’s a great eye-break to use a book like this. True the print version isn’t searchable but it has a great Table of Content and an index so it’s very usable.

The first copies of the Louis 1883 reached fans! So to get it out of the way, yeah, there's only one really unseen picture, the others are very close versions of the ones we saw, and all of it, interview and pictures, are from TOU promo, not current or even edited to hide the fact that it's outdated info, with the exception (it seems) of three questions tacked on at the end to update. Getting it so late when it was teased as the new content the fandom is so eager for, it's a letdown, though I continue to appreciate the ways they've found to keep him in the news without him having to do more than he's perhaps ready for. That said! It does have a lot of good stuff! The old: he talks about the way he writes, that it's less structured than, as he describes it, more experienced songwriters, he says many times how much fan support drives him and tidily deflects an effort to get him to talk about 'crazy groupies,' saying that seeing familiar faces is comforting to him, he refers to his Sony imprint label in the present tense and says he finds new music via BBC Introducing, SoundCloud, and YouTube, talks about his love for guitar-driven pop, says it would be amazing to be on a festival bill at some point (awwww yay), and that his LA house was robbed and he doesn't like LA. And a lot more. Read it! The new: he's grateful for the fans' support the last few months, and, in the only actual news in the piece, he says LT1 will be out early next year.

An extremely cranky vacationer from Liverpool, feeling that his Scottish sojourn was being ruined by Harry shooting his video in the seaside town of St Abbs, tweeted out the location to all the major tabloids and told us that Harry was filming on a boat (everyone: nAuTIcaL tHeME???) in a white jumpsuit with drones, and then promptly had their account suspended. Take it as you will (like, is it made up? PROBABLY SO) but it goes like this: "lead single drop the 16th, announcement the 23rd, VMA performance the 27th, Rolling Stone cover Sept, album late Sept/Oct."

Niall had a good good day yesterday (to quote: "yesterday was a good day") getting to share his news and new music, and the excited feedback is still rolling in, as are pictures and pictures and more pictures of him out there glowing and enjoying his moment, love that for him. He also engaged on twitter with a fan who condescendingly tried to get him to denounce Modest (his management and who he runs his golf management company through) which just.... Why. All of it. Why. Do not love that for him. I feel like Niall has really been using his twitter to push and let people know they need to Back Off, and good for him, but unfortunately it is Not Working. ANYWAY he also followed an account called kingofstyle which, no, isn't just another account of Niall's own, it's a page that just posts pics of dapper well dressed men (including Harry!), and today he wishes "our boy Shawn Mendes" a happy birthday and says, "what a great man you're turning into."

Meanwhile, Liam just keeps on liking intensely sexy naked man pics on ig like babe I know they're your friends or whatever but OMG my eyes! He himself is also shirtless on ig today but he's not pouring water sensually into his own mouth and all over his face and over his naked sunlit torso unlike some photos he liked; he is climbing a rope though.
