The Buff-Tip Moth: the resting posture, shape, and color/pattern of the buff-tip moth allows it to mimic a broken birch twig; the moth's buff-colored head and the patches on its hindwings even resemble freshly-snapped wood
Tumblr media
It also definitely tends to look like there's a weird little smiley face in the setae surrounding the moth's head, which is arguably even more striking but for some reason none of the sources I dug up on this species seem to mention that weirdness.
Tumblr media
This type of camouflage is generally referred to as a "protective resemblance" -- a form of mimesis in which an animal can avoid being preyed upon by mimicking an inedible/unremarkable aspect of its environment. Many different moths are able to disguise themselves in similar ways, and it is especially common within the family known as Lasiocampidae. Some of the other species that engage in protective resemblance include Gastropacha quercifolia, Gastropacha pardale, Gastropacha populifoli, Euthrix potatori, Euthrix laeta, and Calyptra minuticornis (along with the other members of genus Calyptra). Most of these moths disguise themselves as leaves/foliage.
The buff-tip moth is particularly adept at disguising itself, however, and the fact that it so strongly resembles such a specific object (i.e. not just a dead leaf or a vague piece of foliage -- but a broken twig from a silver birch tree, in particular) makes this disguise seem even more impressive/unique.
This species (Phalera bucephala) can be found throughout the British Isles, mainland Europe, and Asia, with its range extending into Eastern Siberia.

Slow Days, Bad Habits
When Draco told Pansy he was moving to Los Angeles, Pansy said, "Fuck off, you're not." It was a Thursday and the afternoon sun stretched over Pansy's fire escape patio like a lazy cat. Draco fished out the olive from his glass and ate it, saying, "No, I really am," when he really wasn't — lying was a bad habit of his, and he was five martinis deep — but the next day he woke up thinking: Why not?
Doing what he wasn't supposed to do was a relatively new bad habit of his (sure he used to break rules, but he never broke Father's rules) but it was by far his favourite. Doing the unexpected. Turning heads. Like when he wore the shirt the Muggle orphanage gave him for painting walls to one of his mum's "Sorry We Lost the War" benefits and Daphne said, "You? Volunteering? No way, I bet a thousand Galleons you bought that from a thrift store."
Los Angeles was everything London wasn't and everything Draco wanted to be. Cars built to go 300kph putting bumper-to-bumper down wide, yawning freeways. Plastic surgery to cover up whatever you didn't like about yourself. Every day Draco looked in the mirror and changed something different. What if he had a different nose? A larger mouth? Would his life change for the better? Some days he wished he had more time to figure out how to turn his life around. Other days it was a lot easier to let his eyes droop until every second stretched long and he lost track of it, another day lost in the waste of his life.
When Draco saw Harry at the farmer's market he knew Harry had moved to Los Angeles to disappear. He knew this because Harry wore dark glasses and a cap pulled low over his scar. He knew this because the papers had reported Harry missing four years ago, and had never found him since. He knew this because he had moved to Los Angeles to disappear, too. Draco bought his oat milk and his strawberries and walked back home with them tucked under his arm, like his little secret. That was another bad habit of his now: secrets. Anything could be a secret if he wanted it to be. His favourite bench at the park. The line from an Ada Limon that made him cry. Waves crashing against the pier. The scent of jasmine in his mother's garden. And now, Harry, in LA. All his secrets. All just for him.
Draco saw Harry at the farmer's market again the following week, around 1pm when the stalls were packing up and the baskets of strawberries numbered in the ones and twos. Draco came to the farmer's market every week and some weeks they ran out of what he liked, but he was fine with that; this was the time best suited for him.
Draco watched Harry meander past the stalls, his hands behind his back, like he was browsing with no intent to purchase. But why? Maybe he was a ghost. Draco chuckled at the thought, and then he saw Harry walking toward him.
"I won't tell," Draco said. "So don't Obliviate me, please. I like my memories. Or the recent ones, anyway. I mean, they're nothing special. Just things like, eating a good peach. The sun sinking into the sea. Waking up and not being too hot or too cold. Normal things." (Running his mouth: maybe the original bad habit?)
Harry blinked slowly, his mouth slightly agape. He didn't look like he was going to attack Draco. He wasn't even carrying a wand.
"So," Draco said, smiling, a little more confident now. "I won't tell if you won't tell?"
"You live here too?"
"Sure do," Draco said. "Do you want to come over?"
So it was their secret now.
Which was fine. More than fine, even. Draco didn't normally like to share, but he sure did like breaking rules. Especially his own.

An outfit each of them would wear Exactly Once? Maybe specifically something they would wear in public, but just once?
Tumblr media
I couldnt think of a better 'only once in public' outfit to doodle considering the recent proposal/fight situation.
Lord knows if it'd go down like this but it was fun to draw and figure out their respective styles.

you know
there’s a lot to be said about season four, but it is just now hitting me that we’ve had a mass influx of characters that seem to be acting wildly overly aggressive (both in seeking out conflict and the actions they take while in that conflict) because their cc either doesn’t know what to do when the main conflict of the season just isn’t happening (I’m hanging up missing posters for c!dream as we speak) Or because they’re just burnt out with what they were doing before
and bad’s the only one that thought to use the canonical mind control egg that’s not contained and hasn’t had its story wrapped up yet
we could’ve had a third wave of the egg by now that can either reject dream because it sees him as a threat or Use and Be Used by dream under the condition that they’re both trying to destroy each other behind the scenes but see each other as useful for taking out the competition

you. Hi
found the post from before I hope I don't come across as weird fjdjjdndndhdjd
anyways
so here's my weird ass idea. Crazy as hell and I'm sleepy and probably not in the right mindset so here goes
in ghost form the fallen children bond (yes this includes chara)
and then they get resurrected by frisk
frisk and chara understandably go with Toriel, along with many other fallen children
however clover insists having a cowboy dad (starlo) and so now starlo and Toriel have joint custody of the child
ok yup I'm gonna sleep byeeee
hi! you dont come off as weird, dw, lmao
unfortunately, i 1) just woke up from a nap, and 2) have shit awful memroy. i. dont know which post youre talking about??? lmfao. its a neat idea tho. i wonder how many of the children would want to stay w toriel or would rather stay with some like. cool monster friends they made.
some of them would probably have been dead long enough that their friends have already passed away, and theyd prob go with toriel, considering shes. basically their mom. some of them may have their cool monster friends turn into cool monster grandparents. some would just have their cool monster friends remain their cool monster friends or get adopted... like clover, imo
i dont think theyd go with toriel or that shed have any custody over them, tbh. in uty, they only know her for like. a minute, lol. its more likely shed see them alive again and talk w them and decide where they want to go, and once shes sure they have somewhere safe to stay, shed leave them to live their life. maybe theyd visit once in a while, probably more likely to see frisk/other humans who decided to stay w her rather than toriel herself (at first, at least)
star would have full custody. or. maybe it would be split between the feisty five?? who all live together anyway so ig it doesnt matter much. i like to think martlet dalv and ceroba are involved, too. myabe not in terms of official custody, but definitely in terms of "oh our human friend slash kid is back, and were already friends ig, so like. wow our family just got huge"
personally like the thought of star's parents finding out. bc suddenly theyre grandparents. wonder if theyd dote on clover... theyd teach them the ins and outs of the corn trade, i think. corn family
anyway, that got long, lmfao. i have no idea how anon messages work, idk if youll see this or not (detriments of being a new-ish tumblr user lmao) but enjoy your sleep

A lot of hype was created by Costco last year when they debuted their new Lemon Meringue Cheesecake. Fans of lemon dessert can now celebrate as the Warehouse Club has finally brought it back for 2024! This week, a Reddit user posted a picture of the cheesecakes next to a $21.99 sign. The dessert consists of a toasted meringue topping, tart lemon filling, lemon cheesecake, and Graham cracker crust. Just like last year, a crowd can be fed with the nearly four-pound bakery item. RELATED: 25 Best Costco Items To Prepare for Spring In the Reddit thread, numerous Costco fans shared their thoughts on the dessert, with many expressing their delight. "I would eat all this in one sitting. No issues," one Redditor wrote. "I love lemon meringue pie and cheesecake! What a dream! I'm going to look for one tomorrow," another one commented. If the dessert has captured your attention but you're unsure about being able to eat all of it, one shopper recommended wrapping individual pieces and popping them in the freezer. "They freeze and defrost well," the Reddit user noted. RELATED: We Tried 11 Costco Bakery Desserts & One Blew Us Away Costco / Facebook Although there has been a lot of excitement surrounding the return of the cheesecake, there have also been criticisms of the bakery item. Customers frequently complain in the thread that the dessert is "too sweet," so depending on how much of a sweet tooth they have, this is something to keep in mind. Not just the Lemon Meringue Cheesecake is returning to Costco's bakery this season. The warehouse club reintroduced its Mini Carrot Cakes earlier this month; they were listed for $9.99. These carrot cakes, which come in a six-count package, have cream cheese frosting, raisins, and walnuts. For a decorative touch, they're also topped with a carrot made out of frosting. In addition, Costco is once again selling the Lemon Blueberry Loaf for $8.99. Made with a lemon batter, blueberries, lemon icing, and butter streusel, this dessert made its debut last spring. In addition to Costco, Trader Joe's has brought back to life a beloved lemon-flavored treat called Lemon Mini Sheet Cake. This dessert was first served in the spring of last year and is a sheet cake with a lemon flavor topped with lemon cream cheese frosting and lemon zest.   A lot of hype was created by Costco last year when they debuted their new Lemon Meringue Cheesecake. i think one of my fave things this season is grian's obsession with fishing. It feels like he's trying so hard to be normal and have a slow start to the season to the point that he's overshot the goal and now does nothing but fish.
he's managed to become more cryptic than usual and i think is being claimed by the ocean, which yknow, good for him
