I was so excited for this episode because we finally got the long awaited Severide and Sylvie scenes but it turned out to be a let down. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing Sylvie in action alongside Severide but the talks involving Matt just added to my heartbreak of how they were going to move on her character.

I keep hearing people say well they wouldn't do that to a character because it would be OOC but this season has proven that the writers really don't know their characters and their history. I LOVE Brettsey but saying Sylvie has been in love with Matt since the moment she met him is a big reach! I really wish that scene was not in tonight's episode because it just adds fuel to the fire of people hating/disliking Sylvie. I mean the slander I'm seeing on the bird app is so off putting and disheartening that I had to log off just so I wouldn't see it! Why would Andrea thought to include a scene like that is puzzling.

I also get having friends say it's time to move on but to imply that in order to do that you have to lower your standards?! This just doesn't make sense.

I'm not even going to go into the whole Stella and Carver implications because I said before nothing is off the table with a character being OOC. It's not to say Stella would cheat but from the decisions the writers are making this season I wouldn't be surprised to see an emotional connection starting to deepen between the two.

That look way longer than I wanted but this episode managed to piss everyone off!

Hey, at least Stellaride and Brettsey fans can probably agree that this episode was so off putting 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve watched clips but none of them make me want to watch the episode or any other ones this season.

I disliked that they said she was in love with Matt or had this feeling from the moment they met. It was ridiculous and, like you pointed out, gives Brett haters ammunition. It was too out of place. Even I know it wasn’t love at first sight and that is the actual beauty of Brettsey. Based on what I’ve been seeing and reading, this season has been one strange trip. Severide not talking to Casey? Ritter getting 2.5 seconds of screen time? Carver giving Stella those looks? It’s like an alternate universe.

What makes me want to pull my hair out is the fact that this show can be good. We’ve had good seasons, great episodes but now, it feels like it’s just trudging along.

3. Favourite fic you've ever written.

I have to choose my favourite child omg.

I'm going to say Trudy Knows Best because it came at a time where Med had ditched my 2 fave characters and I got hooked on Chicago PD again during lockdown. What a time.

Me realising....what if Burgstead was a thing? Then obsessively rewatching and writing it out (shout out to Trudy Platt for being such fun to write) and then uploading it even though I was TERRIFIED of backlash. So it's my favourite because I published it despite fearing no one would be interested.

5. Whats a fic idea that youve had but will never write?

Never say never but a Sylvie Brett / Kelly Severide fic. I mean I thought they had great chemistry when Sylvie arrived ans they've such a sweet friendship that is under delivered on. But also I ship Brettsey and Stellaride so much so don't know if I'll ever write it 🤷‍♀️

22. Do you know how your fic will end before you start writing?

Not really I just know they have to end up together in the end. But I do love in my final chapters to throw my storytelling out the window and include all the cuteness and fluff that I can

Thoughts on 10x04

I had to take a minute.

I had to take a day to calm my blood pressure.

TO BE CLEAR: I do not think Jesse is leaving, nor have I seen any indication he wants to.

I think it's safe to say that Derek Haas has an uncanny ability to hone in on everything you love — and then take a massive wrecking ball to that thing.

1. Jesse is not leaving.

Jesse is the main lead of the entire One Chicago franchise. It makes no sense that he would leave. He just welcomed Hanako to "our crazy fandom" this summer when she became a series regular and was so excited about the season in all of the interviews. He was beaming cutting that 200th Episode celebration cake with Taylor, seemingly proud of the show and the work he's done.

He seems like the kind of guy that sticks things out. Even on House, when the team changed post-Season 3, he still stayed for all 8 seasons even though the prominence of Robert Chase as a character faded to make room for new team members.

Side note: It would make zero sense that Eamonn would hang onto the show so tightly even after he's technically left the firehouse and for Jesse, who has a way bigger role, to just abruptly leave outright. Am I making sense? Do you understand what I'm trying to get at? They’re reaching so far just to keep Eamonn there but they readily let Jesse go, when he’s way more important as a character? Nope.

Haas said Brettsey would see some bumps in the road in the first half of the season. That is a stark departure from Jesse leaving entirely. Haas misleads and bluffs, but he doesn't seem like the type to outright lie in interviews. Also, the writers wouldn't have spent 2 seasons hyping up Brettsey and giving us an episode like 9x16 if Jesse was just gonna leave 5 episodes into Season 10. They wouldn't dangle a ship in front of the audience just to rip it away. That's like having Stellaride get engaged only for Taylor to leave. It wouldn't make sense.

Haas also talked about other storylines this season, including a Sheets on Fire revisit and Violet telling Sylvie all about her tension with Gallo. It seems like Sylvie remains emotionally intact. If Matt truly left forever, she'd be broken and that would probably be it's own storyline.

Another Hint: Y'all, the social worker said she wouldn't recommend that Matt take them back to Chicago, not that he legally couldn't. It's absurd reasoning. The boys have nothing tying them to Oregon. Who cares about their neighbors and Ben's shady friends? They mean nothing. This whole train wreck started because Heather suffered a loss and decided to rip the boys away from the only family they knew who would care for them. Leaving Chicago is actually what started all of their problems.

2. This doesn't help Matt or Stella.

Others have said it makes sense and would solve the Stella lieutenant problem. How? The only reason why Stella became lieutenant was because Boden set his sights on her as a leader and set her on that track. There was never an urge for her to be lieutenant or a desire for that from the audience. Stella could've stayed on Truck and I wouldn't have cared.

In addition, let's be honest, this would be a horrible ending for Matt as a character. Yes, these are his godchildren but the writers didn't seem to care about that when they had them disappear for 8 years.

Now, all of a sudden, they're back and Matt's moving to Oregon? Congratulations, Matt would be back at square one. Not married, not a father, having accomplished none of the personal goals he's had since the Pilot. What kind of 10-year character arc would that be? What would he even do in Oregon away from everyone and everything he knows?

@sylviebrettisthebest said it: "Almost his entire 10 seasons has been about life happening around him and bending himself out of shape to accommodate other people."

It wouldn't make sense for this to be his end, once again sacrificing his happiness and life for others and never actually getting anywhere himself. That's not a character that has grown.

3. Is Matt pulling a Gabby?

Is Matt making a decision without Sylvie? I loved that he said, "Let me talk to and figure it out with my girlfriend," right before the social worker discouraged his idea of moving the boys back to Chicago.

But then Matt said: "I think I have to move to Oregon."

You think? Matt, you're with someone. Talk to them first. I hope he does this in 10x05.

I'm basing this on how he looked at her when he came back to the firehouse. He looked happy to see her, but that also wasn't a "We need to talk" face. He gave her a look that said he was gonna drop a bomb on her when she woke up. He seemed to already be sure of his decision when he spoke to Herrmann. It was also very stupid of him to say it wouldn't change anything between them. Oregon is not a state away from Illinois. It's literally on the other side of the country!

I'm trying really hard not to see Gabby-style comparisons because I know it's not the same, but it's difficult. First, Gabby didn't have to go to Puerto Rico. She decided to on a whim after Matt wouldn't give her what she wanted. She could've stayed and fought for her marriage, so I get why he didn't want to go with her.

This is not about an unreasonable spouse. This is about two unstable teenagers.

4. What does 10x04 mean for Sylvie and Matt?

I've seen the Gabby-Matt and Sylvie-Kyle comparisons.

Yes, Sylvie went with Kyle in season 8 back to Fowlerton, but she and Kyle were engaged. She had accepted a proposal from this man and felt going was the right thing to do. Otis had just died and she didn't have much going on in her life work-wise. Also, Fowlerton is only a few hours from Chicago, tops.

I've heard people say she's being left again or put on the backburner, and I don't think it's that black and white. Matt does love her. If it was up to him, she would be the priority in his life.

Harrison and Kyle didn't put her first simply because they didn't want to. Although Antonio had kids which automatically came first, he could've set Laura straight and had an actual healthy work-life balance so Sylvie didn't come last. He didn't.

Matt is obviously being pulled in two different directions, and I hope he can navigate this without heartbreak for Sylvie. I'm encouraged by what Herrmann said about the boys being everyone's firehouse babies. If that's the case, why would Matt want to leave the firehouse, isolate himself, and raise them away from 51? Minus the drinking, how is that any better than what Heather did? I hope Matt realizes that raising the boys isn't just his burden to bear. It's Severide's, Herrmann's, Cruz's, etc. Herrmann says the boys are everyone's firehouse babies? Okay, time to prove it.

Long-Distance?

For the record, I've come to believe long-distance doesn't work. Adam Wilde said it best in Gayle Forman's If I Stay: "It's like dating a ghost." He's right. At the end of the day, this person is just not there. You need them. You want them there and they're just not there. You're not single in your mind, but you move through life as if you were. They're not there for dinners or dates or for your breakdowns. This person isn't a part of your day-to-day life, and after a while, you just can't keep denying it anymore. What kind of relationship is that?

Some have said the boys' aunt might still come back into the picture as well, and this could still happen!

This storyline had so much potential and the writers ruined it. If you're gonna bring back characters like the Dardens after 8 years, make it worth it.

P.S. He is not a father to those kids. Please stop parroting this point. These are unstable teenagers who already had a father and a living mother who just need guidance and support. He's not "fathering" anyone.

P.P.S. Open Letter to Derek Haas:

Quit giving us dumpster fire plots full of holes and calling it storytelling. If you've run out of ideas, just own it, dude. Own it and hire a new writer that can spice things up or get the creative juices flowing again.

CHICAGO FIRE SEASON 9 THOUGHTS CHARACTER GROWTH

If you haven’t watched season 9, this may contain spoilers.

Apart from the Stellaride engagement, Brettsey finally got together after all the angst and wait. That scorching and intense Brettsey first-time scene, the thing I have loved the most about season 9 of Chicago Fire, was the personal and professional growth that the characters had.

1. Kelly –Although there was a moment this season where Kelly shut down this season, he managed to get it together and talk to Stella about what was bothering before he let it go on for too long, like in season 7, where he was reckless with his life, and Stella had to take a break. I appreciate that when he was thinking and discussing proposing to Stella, he considered her previous toxic marriage and her feelings about being engaged and getting married.

2. Stella –I’ve always loved that Stella knows when to take a step back from a person or situation for her well-being, even if it is the person she loves. She eventually did it with Grant, and she has done it with Kelly a few times, and there was no exception this season. But luckily, Kelly got it together. But the biggest thing that happened this season was her professional growth from Girls on Fire to her being a woman of colour who made Lieutenant despite the obstacles. They were all so proud of her.

3. Sylvie –This season, we saw Sylvie put herself first even it hurt her to do it and hurt Matt, the person she is in love with.

In the past, we have witnessed Sylvie be poorly treated, made to feel like she’s not enough, be someone’s second thought, be seen when it is convenient for them or not have her feelings taken into account.

It happened with Harrison, Cruz to an extent, Antonio and Kyle. Harrison treated her poorly, Cruz sometimes forgot to take her feelings and needs into account (they just weren’t suitable for each, obviously), Antonio could never put her first. Honestly, he never really tried, and Kyle wanted her to change some things so she would fit his idea of a Chaplin’s small-town wife. But, even when she made changes and sacrifices, they still made her feel like she wasn’t enough. It was always at the end of her relationships that Sylvie managed to prioritise herself either by leaving, asking for more or something different.

But this season, she did not allow herself to be consolation prize or second place to Gabby (even though she never was). Instead, she recognised her worth and realised she deserved more because Matt kept showing her this even if he didn’t realise that that was what he was doing.

Because of Matt, Sylvie realised she deserves to have and go for the partner she wants with no compromise on either of their parts. And even though she was scared, Sylvie went for the partner she wanted, no compromise, and we got BRETTSEY. (And also Violet.)

Sylvie Brett deserves to be loved unconditionally without making sacrifices or changes. And she is, by Matt Casey.

For season 10, I am hoping we get to see Sylvie have more professional acknowledgements and achievements. She DESERVES it, especially with all the partners she has had to take on.

4. Matt –Matt was the character I thought had the most growth to me, and this was surprising to me because he has been here since day 1. Matt Casey went on an emotional rollercoaster this season, but he managed to become the happiest and most loved he’s ever been.

After everything Matt has been through and how selfless he is, he deserves to be happy, safe, listened to, included, and put first.

We haven’t seen Matt be put first since Hallie and the start of his relationship with Gabby. Even though they got back together, Hallie put him first by acknowledging they couldn’t carry on for much longer because they didn’t want the same things. She didn’t want kids, he did, and she just wanted him to be happy. When Hallie passed away, for some time, Gabby managed to put her romantic feelings aside and be there for him as a friend. But I think this was the last time we saw Matt, his wellbeing and feelings be someone’s priority. After this, there were many situations where he was the last priority or just not taken into account.

But I think what Matt has realised is that HE HAS TO PUT HIMSELF FIRST. He can’t keep putting aside his happiness to keep the people he loves happy, and he is allowed to fight for what he wants to be happy. He deserves to have a partner that will be there for him, listen and include him, take what he says and feels into account and love him unconditionally. All this led him to the woman that showed him these things, Sylvie Brett.

Matt reaching out and telling Sylvie about his head injury was such a big deal to me because I can’t remember the last time he asked for help, most of the time, people reach out to him, or he tries to figure it out on his own. For example, his grief after Hallie died, his original head injury, his house burning down. In these situations, initially, he tries to deal with it on his own and eventually his friends have to go to him.

But with Sylvie, he trusts her with everything, including his worst fears.

Then with Matt’s love confession to Sylvie, I was just so PROUD of him. He told Sylvie that he was in love with her even if that didn’t change anything for her.

He fought for her and his happiness but still managed to put her first and be respectful of her. This love confession was everything! We got Brettsey

Matt Casey is more than enough for Sylvie Brett. She wants him and the life they are going to build together. Sylvie isn’t chasing more

Then when he was waiting for an answer from Sylvie after his love confession, let us all just appreciate that he didn't do something reckless or impulsive whilst he was spinning out. 😂😂

5. Mouch –I just adored seeing Mouch get some recognition this season. He is a fantastic character. And it wasn’t just that Mouch received a medal, but I loved how open Ritter and Gallo were about how much they respect him. He deserves it.

Second week going strong!  This week I’m highlighting a series of fics from the One Chicago fandom, and I couldn’t pick my favourite so I decided to just rec the whole series.

 - this series is basically my wishlist for the new season but in fic form and like adding things i hadn’t even considered yet

- includes things like jay finding out what happened between hailey and voight, adam visiting kim in the hospital, stellaride wedding stuff, brettsey fluff in general, and each one is so good

- there’s even a stellaride + shay centric one which is of course the quickest way to my heart

What moments do you wish they included in this wedding episode ?

two things come to mind, both of which apply to the reception

a conversation between them during their first dance (or the reception at all). like obviously we saw them dance together but i feel like we barely saw them talk and enjoy being married before the nightmare that was their honeymoon and that makes me sad

brettsey’s best man and maid of honor speeches! who knows if they even gave speeches but i’m sure if they did they were so sweet and beautiful and i wish we could’ve seen it

Thoughts on 10.02: Headcount

I said it before but I’ll say it again DomesticBrettsey is amazing and I cannot get enough of them

I love their love soo much

Matt Casey really is out there diverting the attention from himself onto the 2 top women in his life. I love him your honor

the fact that Sylvie has someone out there she can share her thoughts and ideas with and who roots for her and encourages her, is amazing

the fact that Matt has someone out there that is his biggest cheerleader but also lightens him up and makes him happy, is amazing

I was reading the Fangirlish review of the episode and I 100% agree with this: The Brettsey scenes we’ve been getting feel both like the show taking advantage of the honeymoon period and a little message of reassurance for fans.

So Matt literally hasn’t been sleeping over at the loft for weeks, huh?

Now I am even more certain that the Brettsey obstacles are Chief Hawkins and the Darden storyline

Chief Hawkins appears to be the type of dude that thinks his shit doesn’t stink and I hate him already

I love the library idea, just wish the callback included Sylvie’s part in Sheets on Fire

what are some pairings (romantic or platonic) you like or love from one chicago?

Thanks for the question anon! I’ve so far only watched Chicago Fire, so all of these are going to be from there. (Although based on what I’m seeing, it might be time to get into Chicago PD!)

Romantic

Stellaride: I’m a big fan of them together! They’re both such strong, independent people, and I really like the dynamic their relationship has, where they make each other better and support one another without ever compromising their fierce senses of self. And I love how much you can see this in their “tag line” of you got this (not to mention it makes my heart melt every time)

Brettsey: I think this is my favorite romantic relationship Casey has had so far in the show. After the will-they-won’t-they got resolved, I really like that they’re quite uncomplicated, just two good people who love each other and will support each other through everything. If anyone can make a LDR work, I hope it’s them

Herrmann/Cindy: I don’t see a ton about them in general, but I think they’re the longest-lasting relationship on Fire to date and there’s definitely a reason for that! She is so clearly his favorite person in the world, and vice versa, and Cindy is as much a part of the firehouse family as Herrmann himself. On a meta-textual level, it’s pretty rare to see healthy, happy, long-term marriages on tv, so these two will always have a special place in my heart

Platonic

Boden & Herrmann: As Boden says to Casey, it can get lonely at the top. These two have such a lovely friendship both inside and outside 51, as firefighters, as friends, and as fellow fathers

Shay & Severide / Shay & Dawson: This is from way back when, but this list wouldn’t feel complete without including Shay’s friendships with Severide and Dawson. I still think they’re some of the strongest platonic relationships the show has ever had

Sevasey: If you’ve seen any of my CF posts, you’ll know Sevasey absolutely own my heart. I love how far they’ve come from season 1 to being true brothers in all but blood, the way they’ve spent more time living together than not over the course of the show, the way they’re each others’ rock—I’ll stop here and let the rest of my blog speak for why I love these two!

If you write an Upstead AU where the CPD Squad are in college, would you include Stellaride and Brettsey? 😄

Brettsey would be incorporated as the "everyone thinks they're together but they say they aren't" stereotype and then Stellaride would be the "new girl, badboy" couple 😂 Jay/Adam/Kelly/Matt make up the boys squad (kinda like in my fic 'Willow'). send more asks about this pls, I am SO close to writing an outline
