I'm a real sucker for the trope where someone loses a loved one, goes mad, and tries to bring them back. In this case, one of Atlas's mistakes was creating a robot in his dead friend's likeness and thinking she could replace Grace.

Spoilers: it doesn't work out. And he'll keep trying different methods, even if it unintentionally hurts others. He's in it for himself even if that means resorting to steal, cheat, and kill and even 'reset' the whole universe. He's not called a 'space pirate' for nothing.

Of course, this is all sort of the main concept now but it could change down the line, idk. I need to work on more detailed oc bios.

Dogs of War is a fun sci fi book, but I wish it leaned a bit more into being about man’s relationship with animals rather then being kinda a standard AI story just with uplifted animals instead of robots.

Heard about the Beijing robot marathon and immediately thought of your earlier post about how China is a great place to be for robotics. Thoughts on it?

never heard of it but from this article it sounds HILARIOUS. the entire premise is stupid though -- if you want to quickly and efficiently move a robot from point A to point B, what you want is WHEELS or, if for some reason you absolutely can't use wheels, at least something with enough legs to be passively stable. humanoids are a terrible form factor for this; they will be much less reliable and consume much more energy (i.e., you need bigger batteries and/or more battery swaps, and guess what, the only practical place to put a battery in a bipedal humanoid is in the torso, making the balance problem worse). humanoids are a terrible form factor for a lot of things. i don't know why people are so obsessed with building humanoids even though they are so bad. true to form, less than a third of the robot contestants even finished the race, one of them faceplanted at the starting line, and even the fastest took twice as long as the fastest human runner to finish. classic humanoid moment tbhhhhh

(also real quick i want to clarify that i Don't Know a ton about the chinese robotics startup scene, certainly not enough to make a broad statement like 'china is a great place to be for robotics' -- the point i was trying to make in that post was much narrower. like, there are certainly advantages to being physically near shenzhen but that's far from the only factor affecting robotics startups, you know? sorry for being an insufferable pedant on main, it will happen again,,)

thinking about gijinka!metal sonic again. bc like in a humanisation she’d be like the biological kid of eggman right? and that’s giving me such brainrot. the tl;dr is that she was born through surrogacy to serve as eggman's heir when he dies and basically she was raised to be eggman 2 (her deadname is literally ivo jr) and despite growing up with a safe, wealthy environment with a ton of education she never really felt loved by her father so after he and sonic start fighting she pretty much immediately both replaces half her body with cybernetics to serve as a useful pawn in her fathers schemes and started dying her hair in the hopes that if she looked like sonic she'd at least get any attention. she eventually ran away (after realising she was trans and being terrified of her father not accepting her) and like kinda did the whole sonic heroes thing but being like a human meant she couldn’t just be reset so. she just kinda started serious therapy and now is in an awkward midground where she has absolutely no idea who’s side she’s on. i also have some more detailed thoughts on her under the cut if u want.

the modifications she did to her body for her cybernetics stunted her growth a lot. she was short as a kid and as a teenager she's like 4’7 max. it was extremely invasive and painful, but she was that desperate for any sort of familial love. being eleven it was not exactly done great and while she’s a terrifying combatant she's in and out of hospital the rest of her life for some reason or another.

eggman does actually fully support her transition, bc while he's a terrible dad he does on some level genuinely care about her and like, he cares more about her continuing the mad science legacy than how she presents herself.

she’s very much a sheltered rich kid. the closest thing she’s ever had to a friendship is trying to murder her fathers arch nemesis, and that started when she was eleven she didn’t have any sort of friend before that. her socialisation is messed up enough that despite technically still being fully human (just with very advanced cybernetics) she's still very much the maladjusted violent ball of anger and jealousy she is in canon. sonic and co literally thought she was just a very humanoid killer robot for years. like, up until heroes. but no it’s just severe trauma.

she does however have more hobbies than torturing small animals! she's fond of liveleak.com, licking batteries until she's electrocuted (her modifications prevent her from being seriously injured), and inventing weaponry. she eventually picks up some less… concerning hobbies after a bit of therapy and spending time with sonic and co. (she particularly enjoys fashion and, surprisingly enough, animal crossing).

she mostly resembles her father (her biological mother was specifically picked so that’d be the case, along with many other stringent requirements) but she looks close enough to maria robotnik that she Constantly freaks shadow out. especially bc she is again very sickly and probably will die young bc of the complications with replacing half of her body including her brain with cybernetics made by an eleven year old. she exploits this to experiment on him when she’s bored. she’s not as familiar with biological sciences as robotics but she does kinda want to Not Die and unethical experimentation on the immortal ultimate life form helps.

yes, her nine year old pre-cybernetics appearance is deliberately meant to look a little like alex kidd with the messy hair and pallet. bc she’s neglected in favour of sonic. why not.

the robots in all my doodles are sentient, like "OH GOD IM ALIVE" sentient. Most of them "wake up" right before or during battle, where they'll def see their own be blow up and stuff, so to avoid humans (and basically being killed for money) there are groups, or "troops" of robots, spanning from small groups of 2-4, groups of 5-9, to huge troops 10-20 in really rare cases, that live in the wild and travel from place to place, mainly on the North American and Eurasian plates.

They'll take to junkyards or abandoned buildings to find materials to strengthen their armor with, and also augment themselves to fit their personal tastes (like 1 of my little guys, Peremo, who is a pyro robot that has pyrophobia. rip bozo 😔🙏).

In my versions of the Red and Blu team, there are 1 robot for each team. Red has Socrates, a medic robot who had his right arm removed so he can hold other things while healing, and Blu has Vlad, a heavy robot that is basically doing the same thing as Red Heavy, killing people for money so he can take care of his family (but like... they Eat the money instead of using it to keep the lights on).

(I had a potential idea for the "Talis and Arcane Viktor meet Gioapra and the Machine Herald" concept you mentioned.

After the fight, the four end up retreating and actually talking things out. The Jayces argue, while the Viktors are more cordial (albeit wary of each other).

(Also, League Viktor is shaken when Talis looks at him with the same unconditional adoration that he looks at his own Viktor with.)
