Scottish Rugby Player Doddie Weir was born on July 4th in Edinburgh.

Born George Wilson Weir, Doddie was educated at Daniel Stewart’s and Melville College and given the school’s heritage with the sport, and Doddie’s size, it was only natural he would take up the rugby.

After his education finished he played for Stewart’s Melville FP, the FP stands for former pupil, he then went on to play for Melrose in the Scottish Borders, and was part of the team that won six Scottish club championships.

He was brought uup on Cortleferry Farm, near the village of Stow in the Scottish Borders. horses were a big part of his early life and he competed at local gymkhanas along with his sister Kirsty. Later he went on to represent Scotland at national equestrian events. Once, at the Scottish Horse Trials, he competed against Princess Anne.

As his rugby career progressed he moved to England in 1995 to join the Newcastle Falcons, helping them win the Premiership in 1998.

Lock Weir was capped 61 times by Scotland, and was part of the victorious Lions tour to South Africa in 1997.

He moved back to Scotland to join the newly reformed Borders team in 2002 where he remained until his retirement from professional rugby. He finished his playing career together with Gary Armstrong at Borders Reivers in 2004.

In 2016 Doddie was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2016 and made his diagnosis public the following summer. Although the average life expectancy is between one and three years, he has defied the odds to keep battling and his charity, the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, has raised more than £4million for research into a cure. Doddie was also told that a year later he would not be able to walk, he defied what the doctors said still walked in up to the final months of his life a testament to the determination and fighting spirit of this remarkable man.

A big favourite with the Murrayfield crowd, the 6ft 6in lock was famously described by the late commentator Bill McLaren as as being “on the charge like a mad giraffe”.

“As a bloke you just think ‘I’m fine’, but with this that’s not quite the case. Basically it’s a muscle wasting disease and that’s how in the later life of MND it’s horrific because you need help everywhere.

"Basically your muscles in your legs disappear so you can’t walk; you can’t really eat, and then your muscles within your speech disappear so you can’t speak; you can’t swallow and can’t breath so it’s horrific what happens.

”….“But it’s such a debilitating condition and there’s nothing out there that can help any patient with MND.

He has signed a “Do not resuscitate” (DNR) IN 2020.

In February 2020 Doddie said his decision to refuse potentially lifesaving CPR came after a tough chat with his sons Hamish, Angus, and Ben, "I’ve had to talk to them about DNR. We’ve just signed a document for that at the moment, which isn’t easy.”

He added: “You just have to be honest and open and they took it really well.”

Weir set up a charity called My Name's Doddie Foundation to help fund treatments for motor neurone disease.

In 2018 The Doddie Weir Cup was inaugurated, a perputual Rugby Union trophy to be played between Scotland and Wales, the first match in Cardiff in November that year was won by Wales, Scotland are the current holders.

Neither the Welsh Rugby Union nor the Scottish Rugby Union originally intended to contribute any of the gate receipts from the inaugural match to the charity, but pressure from fans and in the media resulted in them eventually donating a six-figure sum

On the evening of 26 November 2022, his family announced that he had died of motor neuron disease, aged 52. A memorial service was held at Melrose Parish Church on 19 December, with audio from the service relayed to Melrose RFC's ground The Greenyards.

Clinical trials into motor neurone disease (MND) have received a £500,000 boost from the My Name's Doddie Foundation to mark what would have been his 54th birthday.

Well, the poppy field itself. In myths, the poppy is a symbol of sleep, death and fertility, and all this is closely connected with the cat world. I wanted to do it like in Hamlet with the poisoned air. Like, you need a gas mask so you don’t fall asleep, and then find a cave or some other crap in this field.

At the same time, I thought about how it might look in the game (a purely personal task. I try to take everything into account) and could not come to a single good solution. In my opinion, everything looks like garbage. This is either to plant a huge area with flowers and goodbye FPS, or to make a green lawn with “poppy bushes”, a type of decorative bushes that can be trampled on, but not interacted with in any way, or a texture with flowers. But I really want the effect of drowning in these flowers, so that they move the same way as in Hamlet when you walk through large bushes. Another option is to make larger bushes in “special places” so that you can “burrow” into them. This way you can hide the object for the boss.

From mobs: Puppy Poppy. I didn't bother with the name.

In addition to the boss summoning item (which I still haven't come up with), there will be sleeping poppies in the field (either white or blue, a la from the Moon, we'll decide later). They will contain seed pods, from which you can create the same healing staff. Next we watch the hands: Opium is obtained from unripe pods - in fact, because of this, poppy is a “sleeping pill” - opium is known to be used in medicine. In addition, the seeds themselves were dried and used as medicinal raw materials. Further, the staff itself in the game, when used, creates a field with flowers in which you receive HP.

The puppies will guard these flowers. I have several behavior systems in mind:

They exist passively on the field and attack the player when trying to collect the box.

They crawl out of the ground like flowers, then attack.

They appear off-screen and run like Hounds towards the player to bite him on the butt. I'm leaning towards the first option. I just like it better this way.

About the staff:

In general, the essence is clear: seeds fall, plants grow and are healed. The first option allows, as in the game, only when used (shaken) the seeds scatter. The second option implies that the seeds will be constantly sprayed and processed little by little. I like the second option, but the first one is better for the game.

As a secret bonus: in addition to players, he cures nightmares - the recipe we get from the cat came from Wilson's desk, and Wilson is keeping part of his bargain. Everything is logical, and those who do not know will be surprised.

Another little bonus to the poppy field: there is pink nightmarefuel in the game.

Of course I have my nitpicks but overall I give it a solid 9/10! Wish my shit ass computer would’ve given me more than 3-5 fps sometimes (not exaggerating)

Even the very beginning of the game I was on edge, the atmosphere the game gave was immaculate

Also was not very thrilled by the mechanic where you have to hide from him, except he’s not even there and it’s just a countdown to insta-death? I was hoping to actually get hunted by him and have to stealth, Alien: Isolation style. The mechanic also annoyed me in another way cuz it usually caused a lag spike aaaand it’s hard to hurry and find a hiding spot when you have 3 fps and keep running into walls, though that was caused by my shit computer, not the game itself, so it gets a pass. Still would’ve preferred getting hunted by the Ink Demon though

Also can we talk about whatever the FUCK the Keepers were?? Those things were CREEPY like, EIEHGHHG WHAT THE HELL, the way they TALKED dear god

The Lurker was funky but I don’t have too many thoughts about it itself, more about the LONG ASS SIDE QUEST you can do for it that I didn’t know was OPTIONAL

I had to go all the way back up to the fuckin Animation Ally and oh my god the amounts of times I died, the many times the map broke or the one time it just wasn’t there at all (once again I blame my computer), the time in a fight in which it was lagging so bad it nearly crashed and the audio was freaking out, and what do I get after all that? A FUCKIN SCHEMATIC AND SOME COLLECTABLES

Wilson is..hard to describe cuz honestly I didn’t know what to make of him? Like the beginning scene with him in the elevator was very ew creepy please stop, I could just feel Audrey’s discomfort, and obviously the whole turning on the ink machine (I was so obsessed with the gathering ritual items for the pedestals parallel) and murdering himself and Audrey scene was a big red flag, and ofc the creepy ass posters and lying and just having dictator-y but distant vibes, but later on he kind of seemed like he had decent motives?? Idk..but OH IT WAS A TRICK, A TRICKY TRICK—HE TRIED TO TURN AUDREY INTO HIS OC

It was sooo funny to watch that scene play out and Wilson starts dragging her toward that machine, and I was just going like “push him in push him in push him in” and then she DID and I was like YEEEAH

And OH MY GOD WHAT HE BECAME, NO EXAGGERATION IT WAS SCARIER THAN THE INK DEMON LIKE WHAT THE FUUUCK

I’m not sure which is scarier though, that thing whatever it’s called or the fuckin SPIDER THINGS WITH TEETH

The whole thing about the ink world and the real world being SEPERATE WORLDS was wild too, like—there was a CITY there, it was HUGE, and the implications of the ink people there being memories, like Joey—the real world versions not there at all but simply alternate copies living a hell (ofc the exception being Audrey and Wilson I’m assuming who’s real world selves were Actually There)

OH OH AND BABY BENDERSSS!! Didn’t do hardly anything and kind of just followed me around for a bit but he was cute! Immediately followed with oh my fucking god as I found out he got tortured by the Keepers

Also in this butcher shop (which had a clever little Meatly reference in the name that made me chuckle) there was just these words that said “the beef is people” and like wow, Audrey accidentally committing cannibalism real

Sammy having a couple memos, him being held in a cell by the Keepers (FREE HIM) as he’s designated a Cyclebreaker, just playing his banjo looking all vacant, and during the final combat scene HE HAD VOICELINES! A few, before he was SHOT OFF A BALCONY BY ALLISON. ALLISON HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME. FIRST YOUR HUSBAND NOW YOU. WHY

He did a fucking Wilhelm scream as he died (for the 4th time in the series mind you) tho so that was hilarious, but STILL

Overall these are most of my thoughts regarding how I feel about the game, and though there’s things I would personally change (aaand considering I didn’t get nearly all of the achievements and there’s probably bounds of secrets I didn’t find, there’s prolly a shit ton I still don’t know), I still thoroughly enjoyed playing it! For me it was worth the wait ^^

EA Lays Off 670 Employees, Cancels Respawn's Star Wars FPS

Electronic Arts is laying off 5 percent of its workforce, which accounts for roughly 670 employees. CEO Andrew Wilson issued a company-wide letter informing staff of the publisher’s restructuring, which will mean sunsetting some live service titles and ceasing the development of certain projects.

In his letter, Wilson states that EA is restructuring to become more streamlined in order to deliver “deeper, more connected experiences for fans everywhere that build community, shape culture, and grow fandom.” To that end, the company will be moving away from licensed IPs and shutting down certain titles to shift its development resources. 

“We are also sunsetting games and moving away from the development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry,” says Wilson in the letter. “This greater focus allows us to drive creativity, accelerate innovation, and double down on our biggest opportunities — including our owned IP, sports, and massive online communities — to deliver the entertainment players want today and tomorrow.” 

Wilson then speaks to the extent of the layoffs and how it will work with affected employees: 

“While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams. Our primary goal is to provide team members with opportunities to find new roles and paths to transition onto other projects. Where that’s not possible, we will support and work with each colleague with the utmost attention, care, and respect.”

He states that this restructuring is expected to be completed by early next quarter. Last March, EA cut 6 percent of its global workforce. Studios such as Bioware and Respawn were also hit with internal layoffs. 

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, one confirmed casualty of this change is Respawn’s upcoming Stars Wars first-person shooter. First announced to be in development in January 2022, the unnamed game was led by Medal of Honor co-creator and Star Wars Battlefront veteran Peter Hirschmann. Recent rumors suggested that it may have starred a Mandalorian bounty hunter. 

In a statement to VGC, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele said in part, “It’s always hard to walk away from a project, and this decision is not a reflection of the team’s talent, tenacity, or passion they have for the game. Giving fans the next installments of the iconic franchises they want is the definition of blockbuster storytelling and the right place to focus.”

EA’s other upcoming licensed projects include Motive’s Iron Man and Cliffhanger’s Black Panther. An EA representative confirmed to GameIndustry.biz that both projects are still in development.

These job cuts join a string of other disheartening 2024 layoffs, which now total more than 8,000 in just the first two months of the year. PlayStation is laying off 900 employees across Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, and more, closing down London Studio in the process, too. The day before, Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games announced it is laying off 90 employees. 

At the end of January, we learned Embracer Group had canceled a new Deus Ex game in development at Eidos-Montréal and laid off 97 employees in the process. Also in January, Destroy All Humans remake developer Black Forest Games reportedly laid off 50 employees and Microsoft announced it was laying off 1,900 employees across its Xbox, Activision Blizzard, and ZeniMax teams as well. Outriders studio People Can Fly laid off more than 30 employees in January, and League of Legends company Riot Games laid off 530 employees. 

We recently learned Lords of the Fallen Publisher CI Games was laying off 10 percent of its staff, that Unity would be laying off 1,800 people by the end of March, and that Twitch had laid off 500 employees. 

We also learned that Discord had laid off 170 employees, that layoffs happened at PTW, a support studio that’s worked with companies like Blizzard and Capcom, and that SteamWorld Build company, Thunderful Group, let go of roughly 100 people. Dead by Daylight developer Behaviour Interactive also reportedly laid off 45 people, too.

Everyone is excited about the upcoming DC superhero flick, Aquaman, helmed by the Conjuring franchise’s star director James Wan. But it seems like the director himself is very curious to show the underwater world of Atlantis to the audiences, in a much broader and extended manner. And it’s not just about this film, but he has plans for the sequels too. Recently during a media interaction with Total Film Magazine, when Wan was asked about the film, he said that he has some ideas to continue building the underwater world of Aquaman in future sequels. He said that there are definitely stories, even within the world they have created. There’s the Aquaman story, but then there are the stories of the seven different kingdoms as well. Those will be really fun to explore, he told further. That’s not all, even actor Jason Momoa, who’s playing Arthur Curry aka Aquaman, said that he has his own ideas about where the sequel to should go. He said that he definitely has an opinion. Continuing further, he said that even where they were shooting Aquaman, he had the opening of Aquaman 2 ready. He went in and pitched it to the producer, and then he pitched it to Warner Bros. chairman, Toby Emmerich. They loved it. Previously, talking to Comicbook.com, James Wan had discussed the importance of putting his own touch on the Atlantis’s superhero, while also staying true to the foundations laid in Justice League. Foreign Policy Morning Brief: Biden goes on tour, plans to meet Xi

Here is today’s Foreign Policy brief: U.S. President Joe Biden begins a weeklong trip to Egypt and Asia, Russian President Vladimir Putin opts out of attending the G-20 summit in person, and U.S. stocks rally after better-than-expected inflation data.

Biden Jets Off

U.S. President Joe Biden took off Thursday for a weeklong international trip on the heels of the U.S. midterm elections. The Republican party is now expected to take control of the U.S. House in January, but with smaller gains than pollsters predicted. Abroad, Biden will likely project U.S. stability and strength—after all, his foreign policy may not change much with a new Congress, no matter the final election results.

The U.S. president will have a quick start at the United Nations climate summit today in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. At COP27, Biden was expected to tout the landmark climate legislation passed in Washington this year—even as developing countries have spent the summit calling for climate aid for loss and damage caused in large part by wealthier nations. Biden is the only leader from a top emitter present at COP27; the leaders of China, Russia, and India did not attend.

Biden will then travel to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, currently hosting the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). There, the U.S. president will likely seek to reassure regional allies about the U.S. commitment to a rules-based order in the South China Sea. The Philippines and Indonesia have each looked to deepen military cooperation with the United States amid China’s saber-rattling over Taiwan, Bloomberg reports.

Biden’s most anticipated overseas engagement may come on Monday, when he meets Chinese President Xi Jinping himself on the sidelines of the annual G-20 summit in Bali, Indonesia. It will be their first face-to-face meeting since Biden became president. (The two leaders have spoken five times.) The talks come amid rising tensions—over Taiwan, the continuing U.S. crackdown on Chinese technology, and Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters, a senior White House official described the Biden-Xi meeting as aiming to “build a floor” for the U.S.-China relationship. With that in mind, expectations for the talks remain low. “I don’t think you should look at this meeting as one in which there’s going to be specific deliverables,” U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told journalists on Thursday.

Biden said he would avoid making concessions and wanted to draw “red lines” in the U.S.-China relationship—perhaps in the hope of avoiding further deterioration. Since entering office, the U.S. president has taken a strong stance on Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory. Beijing responded with aggression in August when U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taipei.

China has also bristled at U.S. policies targeting its ambitions in the technology sector, particularly the semiconductor industry. Climate once seemed to present a potential avenue for U.S.-China cooperation. U.S. climate envoy John Kerry said this week that he had met his Chinese counterpart, Xie Zhenhua, on the sidelines of COP27 for the first time since the summer, when China and the United States suspended climate dialogue. But it wasn’t a breakthrough: “We’ve had some informal talks, but we’re not in any formal negotiations,” Kerry said.

What We’re Following Today

Putin may dial in for G-20. Russian officials confirmed on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not travel to Indonesia to join the gathering of G-20 leaders in person but may take part virtually. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, already in Southeast Asia to attend the ASEAN summit, will lead the Russian delegation in Bali. The G-20 summit officially begins on Nov. 15.

Indonesia faced some Western pressure to rescind Putin’s invitation to the meetings over his invasion of Ukraine, but it said it would not do so without member consensus. Earlier this year, Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited Ukraine and Russia, hoping to encourage direct talks between the countries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is also expected to attend the G-20 summit virtually.

U.S. stocks rally. The major U.S. stock indexes saw their best single-day gains since 2020 on Thursday, as investors reacted to news that inflation in the United States had begun to cool. The new Consumer Price Index shows that major interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve may be helping to ease prices, with inflation at 7.7 percent in October compared to the previous year, down from 8.2 percent in September.

The Fed will make its next interest rate announcement in December—after another inflation report—but investors may already be betting that the central bank will slow the pace of its interest rate increases. The value of the U.S. dollar fell by more than 2 percent on Thursday, its biggest drop since 2009.

Keep an Eye On

Ethiopia’s peace deal. More than a week after the Ethiopian government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) signed a surprising peace agreement, humanitarian organizations say that they have not been able to reach millions of people in the war-torn region, the Guardian reports. As part of the truce, the federal government pledged to end its blockade on the region, but the World Health Organization says that aid has not yet been allowed to pass.

In Foreign Policy, Mohamed Kheir Omer writes that Eritrea—which has a long-held grudge against the TPLF and has fought alongside Ethiopia’s federal government against Tigray since 2020—could undermine the truce.

Russia’s retreat. As Moscow said its troops had begun withdrawing from the city of Kherson, Ukrainian forces cautiously entered territory abandoned by Russian forces in the southern region. Information out of the city remains spotty; Ukrainian troops are working to remove land mines, and fighting continues in some areas. Reuters reported on Thursday that Russia will take at least a week to withdraw its troops from the city, according to Ukrainian officials.

Odds and Ends

As world leaders and dignitaries gather in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, for the ASEAN summit, 25 lucky attendees will take home a unique souvenir: a locally made luxury watch. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, a noted timepiece aficionado, shared images of the limited-edition watch on Facebook this week, designed to highlight his country’s “scientific and technical progress.”

The gifts may instead draw attention to Hun Sen’s own taste for the finer things, which has previously elicited criticism from Cambodians. Despite his official monthly salary of around $2,500, Vice reports that the premier has been photographed wearing watches from the super high-end Patek Philippe brand, including one valued at $1.2 million.

A spokesperson for Hun Sen’s party told Reuters there was “nothing political or strange” about the ASEAN watches, adding, “It is the kindness of the host country to give them as souvenirs to leaders.”

My SVU Headcanons - SFW

These are just random things that I've thought about or put into fics, usually things I can't begin to explain. I do not own the characters, I just use 'em for personal enjoyment. I'll probably add more to this as I go through the seasons. I have an NSFW version saved bc I'm a thirsty young bisexual, but I could also be tempted to do individual headcanons.

Olivia can cook. Like, even before Noah, my woman could throw down some mean Thanksgiving meals. She seems like she'd make bomb ass comfort food.

Munch 10000% watches Buzzfeed: Unsolved an has roped Fin into watching it with him. (He likes Shane more than Ryan)

Rafael has read all three of the Fifty Shades books. And seen the movies. He doesn't enjoy them, but he has read them.

Sonny still makes old school mixtapes burned onto CDs even after playlists gain popularity. He has notably made Southern Lady Jams for Rollins and Badass Bops to Hum in Court for Barba.

This is straight up canon tbh. Olivia has slept with Alex, Casey, and Barba at least once. She has a lawyer fetish

Elliot Stabler can sing surprisingly well. I have no proof, just a feeling in my spirit. His go-to song of choice is obviously old bc he's ancient, like Elvis or Sinatra. Neither of which are super old but yeah.

On the note of music, Sonny can play the piano bc he had to learn for church bc he's a good lil Catholic boy. Plus his fingers are perfect for plenty of things if ya get what I'm puttin' down.

Rollins will purposefully thicken her Southern accent and say y'all've't to fuck with Rafael, our favorite grammatically correct king.

Fin has gone to Pride with his son if just to protect his boy (after he gets over all the usual homophobia and shit)

Fin has also drunkenly kissed Munch, and they both argue that the other person started it.

Huang would easily be attracted to Rafael bc who wouldn't? They're both smart and have a dry kind of humor that goes underappreciated at times.

Olivia will fight a transphobe, especially in later seasons. This is a personal headcanon mainly meant to make myself feel better :)

Rita Calhoun and Rafael have had sex in his office at least once. I am sure of it.

Casey plays softball in a lot of fics which I support whether its canon or not, but she is probably so ungraceful otherwise lmao. Like home girl will trip over air when not wearing heels.

Rollins brought home all kinds of animals as a kid, ranging from stray dogs/cats to the occasional raccoon, and once a squirrel.

Alex likes rap music. Akon is her favorite after the release of "Smack That", but her favorite song would have to be "Beautiful". Runner up rappers are Kanye and Nelly.

On the same hand, Olivia likes country music, new and old. She plays it when she's mad bc everyone else hates it until Rollins shows up. When mad at whoever she is dating, Olivia will play Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" at full volume.

I am a firm believer that Munch likes cats. I will not be giving an explanation as to why at this time.

Rita does not enjoy defending the scum of the earth, but is afraid of starting over somewhere else. She has entertained the notion of moving to SVU and working with Rafael. Rita also struggles with alcohol abuse because of her feelings for the job.

Sonny likes Broadway musicals because of his sisters. His favorite is Hairspray or Les Mis. (Mine is Phantom of the Opera tho, same as Rafael, I'm convinced.)

Elliot likes to play games on his phone. Shit like pac-man, tetris, and temple run. He will play temple run all through quarantine.

In my head, all these assholes are bisexual. It just explains all the tension tbh.

Everyone who has walked through the SVU doors has thought about sleeping with Olivia. Gay, straight, bi, doesn't matter. Everyone wants to fuck Olivia.

Happy Birthday to ex Scottish Rugby Player Doddie Weir..

Born George Wilson Weir on this day 1970  in Edinburgh, Doddie was educated at Daniel Stewart’s and Melville College  and given the school’s heritage with the sport, and Doddie’s size, it was only natural he would take up the rugby.

After his education finished he played for Stewart’s Melville FP, the FP  stands for former pupil, he then went on to play for Melrose in the Scottish Borders, and was part of the team that won six Scottish club championships.

He later moved to England in 1995 to join the Newcastle Falcons, helping them win the Premiership in 1998.

Lock Weir was capped 61 times by Scotland, and was part of the victorious Lions tour to South Africa in 1997.

He moved back to Scotland to join the newly reformed Borders team in 2002 where he remained until his retirement from professional rugby. He finished his playing career together with Gary Armstrong at Borders Reivers in 2004.

In 2016 Doddie was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2016 and made his diagnosis public the following summer.  Although the average life expectancy is between one and three years, he has defied the odds to keep battling and his charity, the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, has raised more than £4million for research into a cure. Doddie was also told that a year later he would not be able to walk, he is still walking to this day, a testament to the determination and fighting spirit of this remarkable man.

And while it put a stop to Doddie’s usually hectic schedule of appearances and dinners, the 61-times capped Scotland internationalist has enjoyed spending time at home with his family.

A big favourite with the Murrayfield crowd, the 6ft 6in lock was famously described by the late ommentator Bill McLaren as as being “on the charge like a mad giraffe”.

In 2018 The Doddie Weir Cup was inaugurated, a perputual Rugby Union trophy to be played between Scotland and Wales, the first match in Cardiff in November that year was won by Wales, as was the second match, of course this years match has not been played due to the pandemic.

Speaking on the most recent My Name’5 Doddie Foundation Dodcast, hosted by foundation CEO Jill Douglas, Doddie said: “This lockdown I’ve quite enjoyed because it’s allowed me to spend time with the family.

“It’s been quite good to re-charge the batteries. There’s no doubt about it, I’m fighting MND a bit more than I was a year ago. We’re fighting it hard, but the farm has been unbelievable. It’s allowed me to get out for a bit of fresh air, with friends and family, and we’ve got an outside gym that I use once or twice a week.“I still think I’m doing quite well – I’m still getting up and down the stairs unaided and enjoying a wee bit drink at night.”

Doddie explained “As a bloke you just think ‘I’m fine’, but with this that’s not quite the case. Basically it’s a muscle wasting disease and that’s how in the later life of MND it’s horrific because you need help everywhere.

"Basically your muscles in your legs disappear so you can’t walk; you can’t really eat, and then your muscles within your speech disappear so you can’t speak; you can’t swallow and can’t breath so it’s horrific what happens.

”….“But it’s such a debilitating condition and there’s nothing out there that can help any patient with MND.

He has signed a “Do not resuscitate” (DNR)  over two years ago.

In February 2020 Doddie said his decision to refuse potentially lifesaving CPR came after a tough chat with his sons Hamish, 18, Angus, 17, and Ben, 15. "I’ve had to talk to them about DNR. We’ve just signed a document for that at the moment, which isn’t easy.”

He added: “You just have to be honest and open and they took it really well.”

The remarkable Doddie Weir continues to fight his affliction, more than 50 people joined him in the event last Tuesday to raise funds to support research into the causes of MND.  The occasion was to celebrate Mr Weir’s annual My Name’5 Doddie Foundation (MNDF) Scotland Golf Day and earned the charity a five figure sum.

is it just me or does it really seem that in media only one aspect of BPD is represented per example, or that the disorder is kind of grossly sexualized..? i just feel like there is no accurate representations of BPD as a whole in cinema/media with the exception of Bojack Horseman (Bojack Horseman) and Claudia Wilson Gator (Magnolia, 1999). now, obviously everyone has different experiences with BPD but it feels like media mostly portrays the impulsivity or sexual/substance abuse aspect of it and can kind of romanticize it. for example, Girl, Interupted (1999) starring Winona Ryder is about a young girl with BPD who checks herself into the psyche ward after an attempted suicide, but other than that the only aspect of the disorder that the movie addresses is sexual deviancy and sexual impulsivity— even in her medical documents at the hospital it stated that her diagnosis was based mainly off of her casual sexual activity. although this is a great and personally relatable movie on its own, and takes place in the 1960s i feel like it’s giving viewers a wrong and sexualized idea of what Borderline Personality Disorder actually is. this movie is, however based off of the personal experiences of the author so i’m not decrediting it too much. anyhow, most people have not seen the movie Magnolia (although i would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone) directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, i would say that the character Claudia Gator portrays symptoms very similar to my own in comparison to Girl, Interupted. although it is not stated that this character has BPD in canon, based on her behavior she seems to fit the criteria. she exhibits fits of irrational, inappropriate anger and mood swings, a very intense fear of abandonment, substance abuse, casual promiscuous behavior, and seems to develop an FP when she becomes attached to a cop who responds to a noise complaint from a neighbor which was directed at her. she also has confirmed childhood trauma with often triggers BPD in youth, especially young girls. I’m not going to talk too much about Bojack Horseman because most people are aware of his behaviors which are similar to Claudia’s in regards to sexual activity, drug usage and childhood trauma (but, their childhood traumas are entirely different)— however, in comparison to Claudia, Bojack seems to experience a more avoidant relationship attachment style and narcissistic tendencies. Once again, obviously not everyone experiences BPD the same but the primary personal media comparisons that i make to my own experiences are these two characters. feel free to make your own statements and reblog with your own opinions. i’m just sharing my thoughts.

Audrey had olive skin and a slim build. Her straight black hair reached a few inches below her shoulders and was parted in the middle. She was wearing navy blue knee-length boots and a white long-sleeved shirt tucked into a navy blue circle skirt that reached her mid-thigh. Her brown eyes were framed by long dark lashes, and her cheeks were rosy. She had on nude lip gloss.

Audrey got out of the truck, closed the passenger's side door, and walked towards the school.

Archie pulled out of the parking lot.

Betty parked her green 2021 Honda Accord in front of the school.

Betty unlocked the passenger's side door. "Have a good day."

"Thank you," Darcy said.

Darcy had fair skin, blue eyes, and a slim build. She was wearing a green long-sleeved shirt, dark blue denim jeans, and green ankle-length boots. Her straight blonde hair reached a few inches below her shoulders and was parted in the middle. She had on a light amount of black eyeliner, a light amount of black mascara, soft pink eyeshadow, and nude lip gloss.

Darcy got out of the car, closed the passenger's side door, and walked towards the school.

Amelia pushed herself off of Audrey and Claire's shoulders. Their hands pushed up at the bottoms of her sneakers, launching her high into the air.

Everything felt like it went in slow motion when Amelia was up in the air. The beat of the rain and the band seemed to slow down. The flash of Rachel's camera glinted in the rain around her. She twisted her body, feeling her muscles tense and stretch as she spun in the air, rain whipping off of her hair and the bottom of her skirt.

Amelia's back was to the ground now. She landed in the basket catch the squad spent days practicing. The sounds of the band's brass section, the rain, and Audrey's breathing came rushing back. She regained her footing, never letting go of Audrey's shoulder as the other River Vixens dispersed to retrieve their pom-poms.

Amelia let go of Audrey's shoulder. They walked toward the River Vixens' section of the bleachers.

Amelia and Audrey sat on the bleachers. They watched the football players slam into each other with brutal force, rain bouncing off of their uniforms.

Dylan scored a touchdown in the last 4 seconds of the game. The River Vixens, Darcy, Riley, Rachel, Brad, Chris, Justin, Courtney, Erica, Doug cheered for him.

Riverdale High had gotten 20 points. Centerville High had gotten 16 points.

Dylan took his helmet off and jogged over to Claire.

"You did it!" Claire yelled.

Claire kissed Dylan, not caring that some of the other football players were whistling and hollering at them. He tried to lift her but slipped on the mud, bringing them both down. She kissed him one last time before they were surrounded by hundreds of Riverdale students. As the two of them were pulled up by Justin and Olivia, Claire heard people chanting Dylan's name and couldn't help but join in.

Audrey's guitar case and guitar amp were on top of a table. She opened the case. She took her red and white 1976 Fender Telecaster and her guitar pick out of the case. She picked up her amp and left the backstage area.

Chris stepped up to the first microphone stand. He set his amp down on the floor. He plugged his guitar into the amp. He slung her guitar strap over his shoulder.

Darcy was sitting on the bleachers. Riley was sitting next to her, holding his notebook and pen, ready to take notes. She had given him the task of writing about the game. Rachel was sitting next to him, holding her digital camera, ready to take pictures. Brad, Chris, Justin, Courtney, Erica, and Doug were sitting next to her.

Amelia, Claire, Audrey, Natalie, Megan, Olivia, and the other River Vixens stood to the right of Darcy, Riley, Rachel, Brad, Chris, Justin, Courtney, Erica, and Doug, pom-poms rustling in their hands as the Bulldogs ran out of the locker room and the marching band began to play.

The game started. A Riverdale student got the ball. He was the shooting guard. Darcy, Riley, Rachel, Brad, Chris, Justin, Courtney, Erica, and Doug stood up, cheering for him as he ran down the court and threw the ball into the net.

The game continued. Chris got the ball.

Chris was wearing blue Nike basketball shoes with white laces, blue knee-high basketball socks with two horizontal gold stripes on the top, blue basketball shorts with two gold vertical stripes on each side, and a sleeveless blue basketball jersey with a v-neck, two gold stripes on the collar, the word Timberwolves emblazoned on the front in gold letters with white trim, his last name emblazoned on the back in white, and the number 26 emblazoned on the back in white.

Chris was an excellent point guard. He was in the middle of every play, every pass, and every assist without ever dominating the court himself. He snuck past defenders and kept them on their toes with how quickly he could become unpredictable. Within just a few minutes, he had gotten 5 points.

A few seconds after halftime came to an end, a defender plowed into Christopher's side to get the ball, and the force of the impact is so strong that Christopher was knocked into the sidelines.

Rachel winced. "Fuck. That looked like it hurt."

The whistle was blown for an obvious foul.

In the end, Chris walked away with nothing worse than a twisted ankle. He sat on the bench for the remaining 5 minutes of the game.

Riverdale High won with a score of 20 to 11.

Basketball season ended on Friday, March 6, 2048. Riverdale High had won the state championship.

In April of 2048, Riverdale High School did a stage adaptation of the movie High School Musical.

Natalie directed the musical.

Courtney was in charge of casting. She was also in charge of costume design. Because she didn't know how to sew, the clothes worn in the musical were provided by the cast, except for the replicas of the basketball uniforms and cheerleading uniforms from the movie High School Musical, which were purchased online.

Erica was in charge of lighting and sound design, which meant she had to press a button to turn a light on or off and start or end a song.

Megan was in charge of choreography.

Darcy was the stage manager. She was responsible for scheduling rehearsals, managing furniture and props, scheduling costume fittings, making alterations to the set and props in between scenes, managing the areas behind the stage during performances, and maintaining props, furniture, and sets during performances.

Chris played Troy Bolton. Audrey played Gabriella Montez. Olivia played Sharpay Evans. Amelia played Kelsi Nielsen. The other characters were played by the other students who had auditioned for the musical.

Archie and some of his employees built the sets.

Sophomore year ended on Wednesday, June 24, 2048.

Junior year started on Wednesday, September 9, 2048.

Audrey and Chris applied for the music education program at Ohio State University. They got accepted.

Darcy and Riley applied for the journalism program at New York University. They got accepted.

Claire applied to Barnard College. She got accepted. She would be majoring in history.

Dylan applied for Columbia University. He got accepted. He would be majoring in physical education.

Courtney applied for the journalism program at New York University. She got accepted.

Olivia applied to Columbia University. She got accepted. She would be majoring in physical education.

Justin applied to Columbia University. He got accepted. He would be majoring in English.

Natalie applied for the acting and musical theatre program at Carnegie Mellon University. She got accepted.

Audrey played Elle's enemy turned friend, Vivienne Kensington. Chris played Elle's love interest, Emmett Forrest. The other characters were played by some of the other students who had auditioned for the musical.

Natalie told her to put her own spin on the costumes rather than copy the costumes of the previous productions but still make sure Elle and Mrs. Woods wore pink.

In April of 2050, Riverdale High School put on a production of the musical Jekyll & Hyde. The musical was a little risqué, but it wasn't as bad as Heathers: The Musical, so no changes had to be made.

Chris played Henry Jekyll and his alter ego, Edward Hyde. Natalie played Henry's fiancée, Emma Carew. She also directed the musical. Audrey played Lucy Harris, a prostitute and the main attraction of the brothel The Red Rat. Olivia played Lady Elizabeth "Bessie" Beaconsfield, the only female member of the Board of Governors of St. Jude's hospital. Amelia played Nellie Brown, a prostitute who worked at The Red Rat. The other characters were played by some of the other students who had auditioned for the musical.

Courtney was in charge of casting. She was also in charge of costume design. The clothes worn in the musical had either been provided by the cast or purchased online. Natalie told her to put her own spin on the costumes rather than copy the costumes of the previous productions.

Natalie told the cast not to do English (or German, in the case of Guinevere, the manager of The Red Rat) accents. They didn't know how to do any accents. She knew the audience wouldn't care that there were no accents in this production.

The dance was being held at the Five Seasons.

Chris, Riley, Dylan, Justin, Courtney, Erica, Brad, and Doug stepped out of the limo and stood in the driveway, waiting for Audrey, Darcy, Claire, Olivia, Amelia, Natalie, Rachel, and Megan to step out of the house.

All my life, I had dreamt of this moment. Some would say it was a silly dream, but all I ever wanted was to be somebody’s mother.

I imagined this time as miraculous and beautiful, but in reality, gritting my teeth and sweating through another contraction was really getting old. Thirty-two hours of slow and painful labor had proven that my son would be just as stubborn and mule-headed as Sweet Pea.

My patience was wearing thin, my mother was dancing on my last nerve, and my husband was, unfortunately, receiving the product of my discomfort.

“I swear to God if you don’t make her leave, I’m divorcing you,” I muttered, reaching for my ice chips.

“Hey,” he responded defensively with his hands in the air. “I’m not the one who asked her to be here.”

“Well, you should’ve stopped me.” I pouted. He chuckled but gave in to my wishes. “I’ll talk to your dad and get him to distract her, okay.” I nodded eagerly as he walked out the door.

When he came back in, I was sitting up, arms crossed indignantly, and crying. I was weak, I was hurting, and I was just plain frustrated.

He came quickly to sit at my side. “Sweet Pea, this fucking hurts. I’m so tired.”

“I know. You’re doing so good. We’re getting so close to meeting him.”

“Pea,”

“What, baby?”

“We are never having sex again.”

He cocked his eyebrow and laughed, bringing his hand to cup my cheek. Pulling me close to him, he nibbled briefly at my ear and whispered, “I’m sure I can change your mind.”

I shove him away and throw my pillow towards his head, laughing as he jumped off the bed, ducking in surprise. “I’m in labor, you weirdo.”

“You are having my baby. You have never been sexier than you are right now.”

Sighing and shaking my head, I answered my goofy husband. “That’s sweet and all, but I really just want to hit you. That’s all I can think about. You did this to me.”

His lips twitched into my favorite mischevious half-smile, and he retook his place right next to me. He took my hand and kissed me on the forehead, paying no mind to the sweat that was trickling from my scalp. “I love you too, beautiful, so fucking much.”

I smile at him weakly and lift his hand to my face. “If you keep mom from coming back in here for good, I’d love you a whole lot more.”

“And just how am I supposed to do that? You want me to call the National Guard, and get them to block the entrance of the room,” he teased.

“No, smartypants, but you could call the Serpents. Duh.”

He stared at you, pursed his lips, and scoffed. ”Babe…”

“Yes, precious,” I giggled.

“Your mother scares them. They aren’t going to get in her way, and I can promise you that.”

“Fine,” I huffed reaching for my phone and typing in Jughead’s number as fast as I could. Sweet Pea just watched in amusement. “I’ll give them something to be scared of.”

“Jones…No, I haven’t had the baby. Look, I need a favor. I need you to get a few Serpents to distract and prevent my mom from coming into this room…What the hell do you mean, no?… Listen here, pal, if you or Pea or anyone let her or anyone else in here, I’m going to hand all of your asses to you, pregnant or not…When you have an 8-pound human trying to exit your body, and taking his sweet time doing it, you can call the shots. Until then, guard my fucking door, or I’ll shove that precious beanie of yours down your throat. I mean it, Forsythe…Room 402, thank you.”

I smiled triumphantly, slapping my phone into Sweet Pea’s open hand. “I was wrong about you, Em. Motherhood won’t soften you.”

“Damn straight. I’m still a Serpent through and through. If I could only scare our son out of me.” Sweet Pea plopped on the bed and slung his arm over my shoulder. He reached for the tv remote and turned on Law and Order. I rubbed my belly and thought back on all the decisions I made that got me here.

Moving to Riverdale and starting Southside High introduced me to the Serpents. Joining the Serpents is how I met Sweet Pea. Befriending him is why we started hooking up, and hooking up is how we fell in love. We were two lonely teenagers, jaded by our circumstances and blinded by sheer lust. The warm hands he used to make me dizzy became the same hands that put me back together when my brother was killed. Since then, I’ve spent the better part of the past five years happily arguing with the love of my life, and soon to be the father of my baby.

I thought I lost him once. A job that Jughead and FP sent him on went south, and he was beaten and left unconscious. I got the call in the dead of night and slapped Jug for letting Pea go alone as soon as I got to the hospital. Walking from the door of his hospital room to his bedside was the hardest ten steps I’ve ever taken. I collapsed at the side of his bed, burying my head in the sheets and sobbing. When he finally woke up, he pulled me up to lay next to him. His strong arms held me close, and his baritone voice promised me he wasn’t going anywhere.

After he was released from the hospital, we decided to move in together. By my next birthday, we were engaged. Fangs officiated our wedding, and just like that, Emma Carter became Emma Wilson. Before I knew it, I was throwing up every morning, afternoon, and night. When I told him I was pregnant, I was terrified. We had only been married for a few months and hadn’t planned on having kids for a while. The smile that broke on Sweet Pea’s face, however, melted away any worry I had.

While I was pregnant, Sweet Pea made sure I wanted for nothing. Every odd request and three a.m. craving was granted without complaint. He rubbed my back and told me every day how beautiful I was. He showed off every sonogram picture to our friends; and when we found out we were having a boy, he had a special Serpent onesie made. I couldn’t imagine anyone else to be doing this with than my protective, sweet, excited, funny, loving Sweet Pea.

My doctor bustled in, interrupting my flashbacks, and drawing me back to this moment. “Alrighty Emma, let’s see how we’re doing.”

Sweet Pea took my hand as the doctor examined me. After what seemed like an eternity, the doctor stood up and pressed the call button on my remote.

“Nurse, yes, let’s get Mrs. Wilson moved to a delivery room, please. It’s time to meet this baby.” She smiled and patted my leg. “You ready to roll?”

“Dr. Shows, I was ready two months ago, let’s go!” She smiled at us and left to scrub in, leaving me and Sweet Pea alone again. It took all of two seconds for him to jump off the bed and dance around the room. “It’s time. It’s time!”

“Alright, alright.” He walked towards me once he had gotten it out of his system, “Let’s go meet our boy!” I said, pulling him down by his dog tags for a kiss.

Forty minutes, too many pushes, and seven curses thrown at Sweet Pea later, and I finally fell back against the bed, defeated. My chest was heaving, my head was spinning, and I was trying my best to keep my eyes open and trained on Pea’s face.

He was smiling tenderly, with big tears rolling down his cheeks. He looked back at me and said, “Em, we did it! He’s here.”

“I did it, thank you,” I replied weakly, still not noticing the “he” he was referring to.

Suddenly, I felt a warmth on my chest and moved my glance to see the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. He was here. Our son was here. One look and I was back- entirely focused, and immediately forgetting every pain of the past forty hours. I had been broken and reborn in this room, and I knew with one hundred percent certainty that I was meant to be his mother.

Sweet Pea seemed to be in the same trance I was, completely hypnotized by our beautiful baby. When the nurse took him to clean him up, we clung to each other, passing sloppy kisses and breathy, “I love you’s” back and forth.

We spent the next few days memorizing every detail of our son and introducing Carter James Wilson to our friends and family. As Sweet Pea passed the baby to Betty’s excited arms, he asked Jughead how it felt to be on the receiving end of my wrath.

Jug just shook his head in response, and I rolled my eyes. “You listen here, Curtis Eugene Wilson, if I wasn’t high on Percocet, and blissfully obsessed with our child right now, I’d make you scared of me, too.”

“I love you too, beautiful,” he winked and leaned over to kiss my cheek.

I smiled sweetly and reached for Carter. This moment- my son in my arms, my husband by my side, and the ones we love here with us- this is what I dreamt of. This moment is all I everwanted.
