As of June 1st, 2024, I have completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation! 🐝 This post is a little different from my usual art posts, but I simply wanted to share since it’s a pretty big thing that has happened in my life to have happened recently. I know I could just copy and paste one of the versions of my little spiel posted on the other pages I have, but what’s the fun in that, especially if I have more room to share here? Technically I already had a little speech here, almost ready to post, but it ended up not saving, so I’m going to try to recover what I can from my memory ,:0 (Also I feel like this is so much longer than my past little speeches on this combined, but I feel pretty good getting it all out once again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

The past four years have definitely been a rollercoaster for me, and in so many ways. I started attending virtual classes while also being registered to an entirely different campus for my first two years, since a lot was happening in the world a few years ago—and still kind of is now, but that’s a whole other topic. Anyways, I eventually ended up transferring from Atlanta to Savannah by the end of that period, as it was overall a more beneficial option in several ways, and it wasn’t until my third year that I would finally attend classes in person. But even so, my third year still had me feeling a little out of place. I did attend class, but I feel like I had limited myself by wearing a mask a majority of the time. To put it simply, I feel like every year I had spent with this college, I was finding a new persona or side of myself, and while it did feel weird, they eventually helped me learn more about myself as well. When it was finally my senior year, it felt like I had somewhat of a blank slate, since I don’t think people recognized my face without the mask, or at least that’s what it felt like? I decided to make the most out of my final year, and while I would definitely do some things differently, I think I was successful in achieving that goal for the most part.

Overall, I feel like I had learned so much with each new experience. My last year was mainly made up of working on my senior capstone film, an adult comedy 2D-animated 3-minute short film, which I will definitely share more on in the near future hopefully. I was the last to join the crew towards the end of my junior year, but moving past the stress of finding a project to work on, I was grateful to have found all these new people specifically. They made it so that I really looked forward to show up to class, and even the people who signed up as extra help were also very fun to work with. Honestly, there was never a dull moment with them and I’m proud of what we had achieved in the school year. Of course, I met so many people outside of capstone as well. I still was a little shy still, I feel, since my ability to be more social would reset(?) from time to time, but if I even had a short conversation with you, or simply witnessed your presence, especially since I was surrounded by so many unique personalities on the daily, I am very grateful with the impact you have had on my time here, no matter how big or small.

In the end, I definitely grew more independent. From living alone, with the exception of a roommate and a kind neighbor who helped me every now and then, to familiarizing myself since Georgia was pretty new and different to me altogether. Savannah can also be a little scary sometimes compared to the familiarity of my own home, but I had taught myself to navigate with the help of the school’s not-so-perfect bus system and walks through the small city I en eventually became comfortable with. I didn’t have the luxury of a car or a bike that may have made travels a little smoother in retrospect, but I also grew to like taking in my surroundings whenever I could, since Savannah was fairly pretty. I had grown to like my new “normal”, so it feels a little weird that it’s all over? I don’t exactly remember how I had come to find SCAD, but I’m happy I made the choice to come here as I think it helped me grow closer to an even better version of myself. I definitely still have more room for growth, but I’m proud of what I had done in the past four years and the fact that I had come to allow myself to open up to new people and experiences, which did help me in my journey as a whole. I don’t have any specific plans or know what’s to come, but whatever it may be, I hope to make the most of it. There is so much I want to do, but for now I will be taking my time to rest and recover from the pretty big workload from all my classes over the years, while also continuing to express myself through my art and trying to build my social presence a little more!

*TLDR; I graduated college and while I’m surprised to have made it to another pretty big milestone in my life, I wanted to share some of my thoughts. I’m not sure if anyone is actually reading this, but another thing I had learned was sharing to some extent made me feel better rather than the past me who would usually keep everything bottled up to myself. I also am the kind of person who thinks a lot and doesn’t usually get the opportunity to share or put my thoughts together as I feel I kind of just go through whatever happens. I did journal for some time, but school work took my priority, so maybe I can get back into it soon. But if you did read this, I appreciate you <3 Whether you’re an incoming college student, or someone I’m already acquainted with/have seen my work before, I’m happy you saw my page in some facet. I’ve always loved art and hope to share more of my own personal work moving forward, as I love to draw inspiration from my own life and interests, in addition to trying to get involved in other projects whether related to animation or not. Reviewing past projects - Airships 'N' Aliens

Airships 'N' Aliens was the 3rd project I worked on and I'm super happy with how it turned out. It was created to be an arcade game so I had the challenge of making the game work with a limited controller. Notably, the controller only had 1 joystick. This posed quite the challenge later down the line once I decided to make the jump from 2D to 3D, though I'm getting ahead of myself so let's start from the beginning.

Originally, Airships 'N Aliens was planned to be a top-down 2D game in which the player would control a little pirate guy on a flying pirate ship, and would have to run between cannons to shoot UFOs. Each cannon would have a different type of ammunition that was effective against a different type of UFO each. There would be 3 waves increasing in difficulty each time, and then a final boss wave afterwards with some kind of giant ship that you had to utilise each cannon for (perhaps weak points would appear associated with a certain cannon?) I didn't end up developing the idea for the boss very much though, it was more of an afterthought.

Work started off pretty slow, I'd made a single untextured platform the player spawned on, and I set the camera into a fixed top-down position. I had also created a couple basic sprites for the pirate the player would control, and had created a second sprite as I decided I wanted to try to incorporate a 2-player mode (this didn't end uo happening).

After creating these sprites, I struggled to decide whether to animate them at the time, or to first create a sprite for the ship itself. I decided on the ship and started looking at reference images but then multiple thoughts entered my mind;

"I shouldn't be creating assets this early."

"Do I even know what style I want to go with?"

"Is top-down even a good idea?"

"I should really develop some basic gameplay first."

"I really don't like 2D stuff in UE5, should I switch to 3D?"

Eventually, after that last question I considered my options and decided yes, I should go 3D. Working with 2D in UE5 isn't impossible (after all, my first game was a 2D platformer made in UE5), however it is pretty tedious as UE5 is a 3D engine at heart and you have to take extra things into account if you want to make it pretend to be 2D. I wasn't willing to do all that and decided to instead go from a top-down 2D game to a first-person 3D game.

I really embraced the Voxel-art style for Airships 'N Aliens after going to 3D. I created everything out of Voxels except for the sky itself which is just the default UE5 sky with some modified attributes (moved the clouds lower down & made them larger). I also moved from MagicaVoxel over to Blockbench as one of my friends suggested. Blockbench is often viewed as being designed for Minecraft, and to an extent that is true, however whilst Minecraft support is heavily advertised and used as some of the default templates, Blockbench is also capable of just being a really solid voxel modelling program without having to care about Minecraft stuff. So that's what I used going forwards and what I still use now for any voxel stuff.

The first big obstacle from the switch to 3D was the controls, specifically movement and camera. As I mentioned earlier, these arcade machines only have a single joystick, so how could I possibly make it so the player can look around AND walk around? Perhaps I could make a button toggle between moving and looking? Or maybe I could have it so you move with the joystick and can turn 90 degrees with a button? None of those felt very natural though. Then I turned to somewhere rather unexpected, DOOM. Yes, that DOOM, the big bloody demonic game in hell with the cool music. You see, old DOOM games worked very similarly to what I was doing here, in that movement and turning are kind of tied together. This led me to replicating this style and having it so the player cannot look up or down (thankfully, there's no need to... is there?) and instead up/down would move the player forwards/backwards, and right/left would rotate the player clockwise or anticlockwise respectively.

The cannons... oh boy the cannons. These damn things took up the vast majority of development time on this project. It took so many attempts to get them to work as intended and that's not to mention that I very much did in fact need to let the player loop up and down in order to aim the cannons properly. Thankfully this was actually one of the simpler issues to sort out, I ended up making it so when the player uses a cannon, they actually "possess" it, which then means the player's controls change to match whatever controls the cannon itself has. So I basically just made it so the cannon has different rules to the player, in simple terms, the cannon could turn but not move.

If I were to explain every single issue i had with the cannons this post would be longer than the damn bible, so i'll just say there were plenty of them, and if you want to see some of the more prevelent ones and see how it progressed, it's all availiable on my blog for Airships 'N' Aliens here:

Alright time to evaluate some of the strengths and weaknesses from this project.

Strengths: - Developed skills in UE5 - Voxel Models - Kept ideas realistic - Problem solving skills - Knew how to deal with a drastic change in direction - Learned some of UE5's Niagara System - Created a finished game I was happy with - Worked around controller limitations well - Gained lots of feedback to work on - Learned how to play videos on UI Widgets - Used prior skills in Davinci Resolve to edit a video for the main menu

Weaknesses: - Slow start - Cut a few corners - Didn't get round to adding a high-score that saves - Didn't get round to adding 2-player mode - Moving around & having multiple cannons ended up being pointless as a result of not getting round to adding multiplayer & different ammunition types

A Review of Exaltation

They hate each other so much, lmao.

The loss of faith in Ladybug is really emphasised, I’m glad that the plot didn’t just go forward without mentioning the social ramifications of losing the Miraculous Box. The masses of Paris never had much of a role before, aside from being fearful civilians or supporters. In this season, however, they have gone from side-characters and scene-fillers to having voices of their own. Realistically, of course, people will have contentions with Ladybug. Jalil’s own little sister risking her life for what appears to be a foolhardy mission for Ladybug would irk his nerves. I didn't expect this, but I'm glad the writers wrote this in.

It’s symbolic that Lila’s avatar is the one reading the criticism.

Again, Chat Noir seems to have vanished.

This Jeanne d'Arc design is very eye-catching, but she looks far too old here. Jeanne d’Arc died at 19, and she’s immortalised as a fourteen-year-old. This Jeanne looks middle-aged. Far too grisly.

“She’s afraid of her feelings and running away by inventing new ones for someone unavailable.” There you go, they acknowledge it in the show, twice.

Doom-scrolling. This is a criticism on social media.

“If you ride horses, you would know it’s a trap.” This suggests that Adrien rides horses.

Scene of Félix and Adrien playing polo in London, when?

Oh, that is terrifying. Reminds me of the nightmare 2D sequences from The Prince of Egypt.

There a scene in the second Origins episode in Season 1 where Adrien is asked who was the first president of the 5th French Republic, and Adrien answers “Everyone thinks it was de Gaulle, but it was actually René City before the first elections.” A repeat of that happens here, where Adrien, or Chat Noir, is asked a question and he answers it while disapproving the common myth. Reminds the audience that no matter how he acts, Adrien is smart.

A lot of Season 1 callbacks, from villains, action sequences, to little moments like these.

Pharaoh is held in constraints of his own powers. He doesn’t control the truth either, the Book of Ma’at does.

This is a pretty cool sequence. I don’t know it its true or not, but the animation style is pretty neat. Looks like a moving tapestry.

“Missed again! How did they do it?” By attending their history classes.

No matter what else changes in Future Paris, I’m glad they kept the Louvre.

Whoa, the new Cataclysm music? It sounds neither triumphant nor villainous. Just - here and ready to blast.

Since when did powered-up Ladybug have extra hair ribbons?

Monarch knows clearly that he’s the villain, no matter how well-intentioned his motives are.

The fact that Ladybug is a good person and does good things is an ultimate truth.

At least Jalil is willing to admit to his mistakes.

Might this be the first time that Gabriel leaves his lair without a single word of taunt or swearing revenge. He approaches Nathalie’s bedroom, and simply apologies. That single statement packs quite a lot of heat and history behind it. Despite gaining so much ground, winning so many new advantages, Gabriel doesn't feel an inch closer to victory.

This is a sweet story, touching on France's history of contention with the English, the idea that love and understanding can overcome differences. The oil paintings used to illustrate the story is inspired. But I really hate it whenever any media tries to absorb some real-world figures or mystery into their lore. George Washington was actually a child of Athena, the Stonehenge was created to fight aliens, Jack the Ripper was actually a demon slain by our hands. The Hell they are. I cannot accept that Sun Wukong was a normal man using a Monkey Miraculous, or that Mulan used the Dragon Miraculous to win her wars. Jeanne d’Arc is the only past Ladybug Holder that is an actual person, I think, and it’s just very strange to claim that her power came from Miraculous jewels. Pushes the suspension of disbelief even further.

Adrien gets his own Kwagatama, finally.

Hi-Fi Rush.

Revealed during some showcase Xbox was having that day, this surprised literally everyone when we learned that it was available right at that moment. No marketing. Any nay-sayers were immidately shut up because the game was right there to play. It was a real ballsy move.

Due to how Forspoken soured any attempt at comedic writing in video games around the time, i immediately turned off the trailer for this game the moment i heard "Yup, that's me." My attitude would quickly change after pressing the play button by accident again.

I had an extra code for 2 months of Xbox game pass (christ this is a good service) & downloaded it when it was available. Immidately starting the game, i'm introduced with a well animated intro cutscene that seamlessly transitions to the beautiful cel shaded visuals.

At this point, i realized that everything in the world is synced to the beat. the player character's footsteps, his jump (if you can time it right) and almost everything working in the background. After stepping out, i truly recognized how much style this game got.

For one, the character design & art. Look at this!

Everyone's has a look that i would see at 6:00 PM on Teletoon. Everything that happens makes me think of something that would be written by man of action. Makes me think of Slugterra. Storm Hawks. This type of Disney XD Awesomeness character design is distinct and it blew my mind to see it return in such a fashion. I don't see it that often and i hope this inspires more to look into it. I know it did so for me.

The presentation is some of the most consistent and high quality i've seen in a video game. I felt the same wonder i felt seeing the Lego Movie for the first time while running through this. The animation, both 2D and 3D is outstanding. Hi-Fi Rush likes to flip between the two on a dime, without warning. The cartoony artstyle and how they utilize it is exceptional. Radical color changes, motion lines, visible effects straight out of a comic book, expressions that snap on a dime, allowing for gags to be easily pulled off with little use for realism logic. The cutscenes like to jump to an fps of 24 to keep it up. The sound effects and things that happen within them are all to the beat. There is an insane amount of detail and polish here. This is a playable cartoon, through and through. There's very little to break the illusion they're selling you. There's even animation of both Chai and 808 messing around as you transition to the other part of battle. They don't have to do that, but they did. There's so much love in this project. I see the vision and you will as well. I played the entirety of this just in awe of what i was looking at. This is what happens when you let creatives just. go wild.

As RANK10YGO put it, everything about this game feels like a can of Fanta on a hot summer day.

The combat is masterful. I hear that people that were involved in some of the greatest character action games were on this project. You've got parrying, movement, and allies that you can swap in to extend combos and disarm specific enemies. The combat isn't really deep, but good lord is it fun. Also, take all of that and put it to the beat of the music.

Exciting camera work, explosive effects, an energetic UI, voice acting that gives everyone life, everything on the screen is moving. All to the beat of Shuichi Kobori's glorious compositions. This is the exact stuff my mind dreams up of when i space off.

The boss fights are absolutely jaw dropping by the way. You think it's gonna go the way you think it is, but it doesn't. It's something different every time, some of them aren't even fights!

Even after finishing off the great story, i unlocked some extra features and a postgame that encouraged me to play again on harder difficulties. Character customization, a model viewer with a wealth of character information & a music player was immediately available to me. Most AAA games like to lock that content behind DLC or pre order bonuses. I thought i was missing out on not getting the deluxe edition. but i felt like i wasn't. The game isnt really that long as well.

It's clear that this game was designed with fun in mind. Profits probably came second, but Tango Gameworks clearly wanted to create something fun and memorable. This is a title that i would've seen in 2010. Not 2023. I had not one bad experience going through this title. It felt like there was absolutely no corporate meddling, nothing holding the team back as they developed it. This shit is what dreams are made of. It's been years since i've been taken in and enamored by a video game like this. I had so much fun. I love Hi-Fi Rush with all of my heart. I'll never forget this.

a wind named something i forget

oh experimental japanesse anime films, how i do love thee. i love your humans with somewhat realistic body proportions, your detailed mecha and other high tech drawn on 2d animation cells, and i love your philosophical conundrums. this film also comes with the whipped cream and a cherry on top of being 80 minutes of anprim hate. it also features some of the the most highly detailed and least sexy nipples i’ve ever seen in anime.

it’s almost as if someone read my mind to know exactly what kind of movie was gonna tickle my fancy this evening, made it, went back in time 32 years to publish it …then pulled the rug out from under my feet with a sex scene between a 15 year old and an alien. i skipped that scene, so apologies if my review is missing some extra important thing Sophia said while fucking.

to breeze (ba dun tss) through a summary you can also find on wikipedia or IMBD, A Wind Named Amnesia is about a post apocalyptic world where a strange wind blew over the entire planet and gave everybody amnesia. our main character is Wataru, a kid who’s re educated from the ground up by another kid whose memory was intact from a secret government memory experiment that gave him a computer for a brain. fortunately, the film chooses to have Wataru as the MC and not the implant kid because that proves for the rest of film that any other amnesiac can be reeducated. on his way Wataru meet Sophia, the barefoot babe who drops more hints at having magic powers that are not commented on than i’m used to seeing. i mean come on Wataru’s whole schtick is that he likes to learn, at least have him ask why she can fly and have her blow him off.

the duo go on to fight religion, the police state, and the concept of safety when achieved through submission of self. the arc where they fight the concept of safety was giving me huge Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind vibes. which if you haven’t read the manga you SHOULD it’s such a great manga.

we then learn that Sophia is an alien, and her people created the amnesia wind. she has become convinced through her experiences with Wataru that humanity deserves to have their memory back, then they fuck, then she goes off to try to convince the aliens to restore human memory and Wataru goes off to try to educate more people. it’s kind of a fart of an ending, but no matter what happens next it’s looking up from where things are now. again the ambiguous ending is giving me Nausicaa vibes. plus it has a wind wiping everyones memory and wind like nausicaa of the valley of the wind.

y’know the last movie i watched that referenced nausicaa was that piss poor official star wars fanfiction that spawned the infamous reylo fandom. star wars rouge one wasn’t it? that movie was like getting slapped in the face. this one… it’s fine. i’m not pissed off by the nausicaa references. it’s kind of refreshing that it’s nausicaa flavored without being a carbon copy or fucking it up. i feel like an actual brain virus or like, infecting the technology with a program that would delete the memories of people who get near technology would have been a better way to go. would make it less silly than the wind removed memories. honestly without wind in the title and as the magical reason people lost their memories i would probably be gushing about the similarities and differences between the nausicaa scene and this scene. oddly enough there’s another movie called “Memories” that has this as one of it’s storylines, is this just some reflection of what was going on in Japan in the 80s? yeesh, well add Japan in the 1980s to my list of spots to never time travel to. …y’know it’s also the final arc in Naruto too. scratch that, let’s just make that Japan at any time, i’ll just enjoy the anime from afar.

also have i mentioned the anprim hate? well, if you’re blessed to not know anything about anprims, i apologize for the cursed knowledge i’m about to bestow upon you. an anprim (which is short for anarcho primitivist) is someone who believes that everything humanity has done since the discovery of fire is sinful and a mistake and that climate change is going to kill billions of people and those of us left alive after the collapse had better not use any technology at all because that’s what got the human race into this mess. and once billions of people die and the randomly selected chosen ones are living in a way prescribed by them as pure and correct the earth shall be cleansed. and don’t tell any of them that they sound like fascists or catholics, they’ll just feign ignorance at you in an attempt to make you loose hope in humanity’s ability to learn and grow, thus making you one step closer to becoming one of them.

anyway this movie argues that if humanity is reverted to its primitive state tomorrow like the anprims want that you’ll get death and misery and the two MCs spend the entire film wading through the hell that such a prescribed future would bring.

in spite of my humorous review it should be noted that the film doesn’t have a lick of comic relief in it. it’s a good damn movie anyway, so long as you ignore the teenager in a sex scene and the alien’s stupid reason for removing humanity’s memories. but hey, if it had been flawless I would have heard of it before now.

Okay so I binged q-force. Is it perfect? No. No its not- it's a comedy adult cartoon about gay spies. It was funny, it had that found family trope and it had it good rep. It had butch 4 butch rep (pam and Deb my loves) trans goth chicks, and even an older women in power who I have a permanent lesbian crush on. I see a lot of people complaining about the stereotypes - mostly Twink- but like.... Y'all realize stereotypical gay people exist, right? Like there are butch lesbians who BBQ on weekends and adopt way to many dogs. There are drag queens who are super extra and loud and sexual. There are alt queer people who like obscure shit and would maybe like to fuck robots- shut up

Like ... Gay people are allowed to act gay. Y'all know that right? Gay culture is built on the "weird". Q force gave us stereotypes but also broke them.

Twink is a top who can throw a punch and is fucking badass. His drag connections come in handy and offers them tons of Intel. I've seen people talk about how it's bad that he wants to be skinny but.... Yall know some people Wanna be skinny? And that's not a bad thing??? Like yeah it can be unhealthy but he never once commented on anyone else's weight negatively- and we had a diverse body types. Just in the force we had a muscle vers, a fat stud lesbian, a tall lanky hacker, a slim thicc drag queen, a chubby hunk, and a middle aged woman with actual proportions. Could I have done without some of the tummy tuck jokes? Yeah, sure, but y'all realize actual queens talk like that.

Then we have Deb- the only character with her life together. She and her wife are very very happy and secure and its like... One of the first butch 4 butch relationship I've seen on screen that healthy. She's a mechanic and was on surviver but she's also the mom of the group. She's in touch with her emotions, she rescues dogs, her happy place is on the phone with her wife- she is a black stud lesbian and she's not a cold mean shell of a person. How often do y'all see that????

And then Stat- STAT! she's weird!! And that's the point! She likes being weird!! She's a trans hacker badass and she fucked an AI!! She's herself and unapologetically so. While affection and emotions make her uncomfortable she's still the one to go after Twink on his birthday. She cares about them all, even in her weird goth way. Shes good rep for those of us who are the "ugly alt queer" people love to make fun of. And the force loves her and her weirdness! Her and twink- two characters on complete opposite sides of the stereotype spectrum- are like best friends. They could of had them hate each other but they don't! He loves her and her weird goth vibes, she doesn't understand his scene but loves him and his drag and never says a damn word. Also!! Her VA is a trans woman!!!!

And fucking Steve- he's the cis het ideal. Strong, masc, average gay man. He could pass as straight- but he doesn't?? He has a boyfriend (who isnt some fuckin super model with the same body- he's a shy bear with glasses and a suffocatingly loving family- also!!! No homophobic family side plot???? Unheard of!!!!) and half of his arc is trying to be there For Him. He's not some hyper masc guy who "happens to be gay but everyones surprised" There is no sub plot of him hiding himself or "being seen as het" he's just a vers with a dorky sense of humor and has a little gaggle of gays (plus buck) that he's adopted and co-parenting with his butch lesbian best friend. Also wlw mlm solidarity!!! Holy shit!!!! that's rare!!!!

Even Buck- who's prolly bi let's be real- goes through an arc and isnt a 2D prick- he loves those gays like family by the end. And that's the end message- community in each other and loving your fellow queer people. There's no fighting between them about being a stereotype. No one makes fun on Twink for being femme, every one gets so happy when Stat smiles, Pam and Deb are happily married and Pam automatically takes her wife's little gay family from work and goes "I love them :))) you should bring them over more."

No its not perfect- I wish there was more open trans rep and nb rep, I wish there was some ace aro rep and I wish there was less animated dick and I could do without some if the skinny jokes Twink made but y'all realize rep isn't ever gonna be perfect? Gay ppl aren't perfect. Gay people are allowed to be stereotypes and the amount of LGBTQ people who worked on the show made it realistic. There was never a point that I was like "this was written by straight people".

Y'all shot down a funny, well written comedy cartoon made by the gays for the gays and hate it because there's a femme drag queen? There's stereotypes?? We're never going to get good rep if y'all crucify everything we do get. Using 3D Programs to Enhance your Art

3D digital art is a massive beast to tackle, something that seems monumental in scope when you first start learning a new program (or two, or three, or more…) and the amount of work that must be put into learning and remembering it all often may result in you wondering- is it even worth it?

Well, whether you decide to jump into the industry, do it as a hobby, or just want to add another set of skills to your repertoire, I’m here to tell you it is worth it- even if 3D art isn’t your speciality, and ESPECIALLY if you happen to be an illustrator or other form of 2D artist. So here is a list and explanation of the many simple things I’ve learned to do using 3D programs to enhance your 2D art, as well as various bits of information that may or may not be helpful to anyone listening.

Anything mentioned in this post should work with practically any art program, with what you decide to use depending entirely on your funds and personal preferences. I personally use Maya, Z-Brush, and Arnold for 3D work as an animation student with access to all of the above, and I use mainly Procreate for digital illustration.

Using 3D programs to create lighting references

You can utilize lighting and rendering within 3D programs to improve your lighting skills in 2D art, as well as create and fine tune a reference however you need instead of searching for the perfect reference for hours. You also can position and know exactly where the light is hitting from, what color it is, etc because you have full control over all aspects. Using a basic model with your own lighting setup, among many other references, can quickly and vastly improve your lighting within illustrations. Below I have an preview render image of a lighting setup I created in Maya with a default model exported from Zbrush, and the initial blockout of a piece using the lighting as one of my references.

Blocking out scenes with 3D programs

Another way to utilize 3D programs for illustration is to block out your scenes in 3D, and use the images generated as the basis for your piece. This is especially useful for concepts with a lot of parts to keep track of, or when you are doing sequential art such as a comic and need the surroundings to stay consistent. I would recommend skipping extra details and just blocking out the area with basic primitives such as cubes to make sure the perspective and layout is properly done if you plan on drawing over or painting over the background, but it’s also entirely possible to create a 3D render and make it seem like part of the painting or piece itself instead. (Although the second approach takes quite a lot more time, knowledge, and skill within 3D art.) Blocking out your scene can also help with making sure character interactions as well as movements make sense within the space, and can make your work feel more grounded when the backgrounds of comics and other sequential art are consistent in both perspective and structure. The blocking out of basic backgrounds is especially helpful in 2D animation- programs such as Blender are perfect for merging 2D and 3D illustration and animation.

Studying and improving anatomy using 3D programs

Using and learning sculpting skills can vastly and rapidly improve your skills in anatomy and structure when it comes to practically anything you can think of. It’s especially useful for the study of muscle and bone structure, and learning to sculpt or at least practicing sculpting basic forms in programs such as Zbrush can lead to a better understanding of the body from any and all angles. In some cases, you can learn quite a bit from just observing a professionally made 3D model and drawing on top of it to mark out major bone and muscle landmarks. You don’t necessarily have to sculpt it yourself (and it won’t help you at all if you do so without references) but I would recommend doing so just for the sake of learning how to create those forms when considering them in 3D. Actually sculpting and slowly practicing creating those forms in 3D can lead to you learning the structure much faster than you would from just observation, especially if you are a more hands-on learner like I am.

Using 3D programs for posing reference

Finding the perfect reference for a pose you are drawing, and at the angle needed no less, is always a massive challenge. You can skip the searching with a simple rig and a little bit of time to block out the pose you’re working with properly. I personally recommend the endo rig, which can be found here. That one is built for Maya, but there should be plenty of free rigs to choose from for your own posing needs, especially for Blender- make sure you look into rigs specifically and not just models as well, as not every model available will have a rig included to actually pose the character. A simple rig like this works wonders for just getting the basic forms and gestures of a pose down, and once you have moved the rig and created the pose as intended you now have a reference for a character’s pose that can be viewed from all angles- which is good both for deciding what perspective would work best in the piece, making sure the pose doesn’t appear broken, and for keeping a pose consistent in all angles for comics or anything where the character will be viewed in the same pose from multiple angles. Below I have a very quick, loose sketch of a character next to the pose I used as reference:

Creating a 3D reference for your own character

If you’re willing to combine a few of these ideas into one effort, it’s definitely worth it to create a 3D model of your own character if you have trouble with drawing certain aspects of them from different angles. Creating a model, either via modeling or sculpting processes, will give you a visage of your character viewable from all angles that remains consistent no matter what- and especially can be useful if you ever need someone else to draw them as well. A 3D reference is the best reference to have if you want your character grounded in reality (or at least, consistent in the space they are in.) For an example, I often had trouble drawing the face of a dragon character of mine from the front but after creating a quick, simple sculpt of the face, pictured below, I now have ample reference to draw the perspective of the snout properly. You don’t have to get super detailed to have something useful- sculpt what you need and move on from there!

There are many, many other ways to use 3D programs to enhance your 3D art outside of what I’ve stated here- it’s a vast world to explore and learn. In the end, it’s a powerful tool to add to the toolbox of any artist, both to work in a new medium, ms to support skills you already may have.

Ushijima Wakatoshi

You’ve finished up most of your homework so you’ve just been rewatching Attack on Titan since you’re super excited for the new season

You’re kinda distracted/have headphones on so you don’t hear your boyfriend knock on the front door. Your mom answers it and lets him in and he climbs the stairs

He can hear your fangirling (freaking out) over something as he walks towards your room

You jump in surprise when he opens the door, because you thought he would be a bit later but immediately release your pent up excitement

“Tooru just LOOK at him he’s such a bad ass like oh my gosh he literally has swords and he’s still running around slaying the MPs who have guns. God whenever he gets angry he looks so hot,” etc. etc.

You’re shoving your laptop in his face, showing him gifs and video of attack on titan, specifically the captain of the survey corps that you are obsessed with

Tooru gets it - for him its space, shitty alien films and astronomy. For you it’s video games and anime - or more specifically, handsome characters from said franchises

Even though he understand that it’s something you’re passionate about he still makes a whole show about whining how you’re in love with Levi Ackerman (lmao i still thirst over our favorite captain) instead of him

The rest of the team finds it hilarious - the end up pranking him by posting pictures of Levi in his school locker or texting them in the volleyball groupchat (Oikawa is Suffering™)

Miya Atsumu

Doesn’t really know you’re into anime/gaming at first

I don’t think that’s on purpose - Atsumu just has such a one track mind when it comes to volleyball and he’s always busy with practice

so he just kinda doesn’t really give all the anime merch in your room a second glance even though it’s a dead giveaway

I bet Atsumu secretly watches some superhero anime - probably shounen stuff like My Hero Academia, one punch man etc.

He probably starts to notice you’re into anime/games because you’ll play games on your phone/gaming device all the time

One day he notices you’re giggling + blushing while looking at your screen. He’s curious to he heads over to you when coach says they can have a break

Peeks over your shoulder because he wants to know what you’re playing - but instead he’s greeted by some 2D samurai guy called Harada Sanosuke asking you to marry him

Matsukawa Issei

Look, Issei just wants a chill movie/tv show night where the two of you can bundle up on the couch and binge whatever anime you feel like

Has everything set up - this man is ready to go: snacks? he has all of your favorites, couch? filled with soft pillows + multiple pillows. Attire? Comfy sweatpants shirtless 🥵

Last time he chose the series for your binge sleepover so he let you choose what the two of you were gonna watch this time

Turns out you decided to watch Psycho-Pass - it seemed like a pretty cool show, he was down with the whole dystopia/psychological concept

Starts out pretty normal, is appreciating the action + mystery elements and is glad that you chose that show

About halfway through the anime you two decide to take a break - he goes to the kitchen to refill your snacks, leaving to stretch you back.

When he comes back with more food, he notices that you’re hunched over your phone, typing something

He sneaks up behind you after he puts the food down, “Whatcha reading there babe?” You squeak and try to hide your phone, but not before he sees the words kougami x reader typed into your tumblr search bar

Lit-rally exCuSE me what - he’s not mad (more amused than anything else) but he also kind wants to tease you (bc Mattsun is a little shit)

“Is that the reason you wanted to watch this show?” he asks playfully. “He’s pretty hot tho, I kinda agree with you there babe.”

Now that he’s released the floodgate, he can’t stop your occasional comments like “omg how does he look so GOOD when he’s punching someone” or “he could shoot me with his dominator and i’d still say thank you”

The thirst comments are kinda getting to him, so he decides to take things in a different direction

“Let me what I can show you with my dominator~” L M A O I’M SORRY THIS EXISTS

Suddenly you’re being pulled onto his lap, and pressed against his bare chest, Issei barely gives you time to adjust before he’s kissing you roughly, tongue plunging into your mouth

His hands wrap around your hips pressing your core closer to his own, and you can feel his hard-on pressing into your stomach

He’ll be sure to suck a dark hickey onto the side of your neck and his hands travel under your shirt, just to remind you who your real boyfriend is

The first thing you should know about this film is that, by all accounts, it should not exist.

It appears to be so expensive, so extensive in its use of locations, that surely some record of its creation should exist. But it simply does not. All names connected to the production appear to be aliases and It's location of production is unknown, presumed Italian due to many context clues, but with a few others within the film contradicting such, with a fictional rating of "H" described only on some copies as "Hastur," in a way totally unconnected to the MPAA, in a situation some have compared to a bizarre version of the situation surrounding the former "X" rating.

Its date of production is estimated at some time within the 1970s or 1980s, but the fact that this is such a wide margin of time is telling in and of itself, as is the fact that the film mainly appears to only survive in the form of copies of faded prints or in widely bootlegged VHS tapes; for there was never any copyright information attached to it as far as we know.

The plot is seemingly simple, a woman is in love with a gargantuan monster, and mutilates people in a way that, when they appear dead, they are transmogrified to monsters themselves, as she slowly transmogrifies and, in the end, realizes she has become the beast she seeks.

And yet, it is at once difficult to capture with how it scatters through time and space at once, at one point cutting from what seems to be the woman's origins as victim of occult abuse in a dungeon; to a pseudo-documentary that appears to become more surreal and unhinged in its description of the things happening in the film, to a montage of clips from multiple strange silent films thought by most scholars to be totally otherwise lost.

It can be compared to immensely; deliberately transgressive films like Sweet Movie or Saolo: 120 Days of Sodom, with large amounts of nudity; sexual assault; and gore, but it relies less on the scatological in those films but rather on the flesh itself, conflating through cinematic language the mutilation of the flesh through violence to the transmogrification of the flesh into monstrous forms through the unknown force.

Even amongst the undoubtedly expensive sets; location shooting; casting of extras; miniature effects for the Beast's rampages; and even the other creature effects; the transformation effects are egregious in their ostentatiousness, infinitely more extensive than even many contemporary high budget films could have afforded, and while there have been some online attempts to dissect how the effects were done; most parts remain a mystery; and some have speculated that certain effects may have been impossible by the effects of the era, in particular the mass-murder-transformation-orgy scene in the theatre.

The enigma of how it could have acquired such a budget is further enhanced by the many pornographic scenes therein, some hardcore, some softcore, though for most it is difficult to judge which is which due to the strange editing style of these scenes. Which could be compared to a film like Tinto Brass' Caligula in terms of pornography with a budget except for the fact that; again; there appear to be no actual records of this film's production despite its likely considerable expense.

But, the final disturbing thing is the fact that, while the footage of the actual film runs five hours, the actual runtime is at seven, occupied by multiple "Intermission" slots. Given the fact that there appear to be multiple cuts of the film with different footage added or missing in ways patchworked with these "Intermissions", these "intermissions" appear to be covering for two hours of missing footage in the film

There have been multiple attempts to assemble a "definitive cut," but there s still remains a missing thirty minutes, and all attempted producers of such cuts appear to have had psychological breakdowns after or shortly before completion. This becomes more disquieting when one notes the multiple records of people having physiological feelings of illness at watching "normal" cuts of the film, only abating at those Intermissions, with further physiological effects observed at those "definitive" cuts.

There have been few studies into whether the source is simply a self-imposed nocebo or something further, but those studies that have been done have had... disquieting results...

Kayfabe aside, this one was partially based on a dream of mine, which I shall recount to you in full because it is perhaps even more disturbing than the fictional film that came from it.

The dream involved me and a couple of friends (Not any particular friends, just generic ones) going into this strange "movie theatre" which was supposedly at Six Flags but looked to me more like the livestock area at our county fair.

It looked very dingy, though I'm not sure in the way of a school or of a 90s-era movie theatre, it may have been a mix. There were multiple stories in that building, which was far more spacious than the weird, tucked-off corner would indicate. I remember seeing what looked like a gross mildew-y empty olympic swimming pool through some of the windows, in the center of the building, no reason why.

There may or may not have been something moving there.

The films they showed in each room were... odd. One of them I distinctly remember was this descent down what looked like a regular multiplex theatre seats but far longer, going slowly down like a weird hybrid of dark ride and film, with "people" around me that looked like 2d sprites and these "screens" floating around with stock-art-like images. It overall gave me the vibe of a combination multiplex and the feeling of a grainy photograph of a decrepit carnival ride and Shutterstock, if that makes sense. I think I recall there was a laugh track, and this weirdly stock old-timey dance music.

Another one I remember was a crudely drawn/animated Pearl from Steven Universe as a bee violently stinging other bees in what seemed to be a gory-yet-sexualized matter.

But the one I remember most in the halls was that one poster, just green text on a black background (more minimalistic than my recreation), The Ghastly Love Of Beauty And The Beast, rated H. In the dream, I understood that H was for Hastur, and that it signified something terrible.

I opened up the door to go in, and it was not a conventional theatre, but rather, a strange room that looked like one of those rooms in a fancy Victorian-type house, but made entirely of hand-sculpted pottery clay glazed with a blue checkered pattern akin to cloth, like a weird mix of lumpiness and elegance, with an crudely hydraulically operated (Think like a carnival ride, adorned with the stuff the room was made of) elevator in the middle that opened up for us. I almost went down with my friends, but at the last minute, as it was descending, I got out, and ran away.

My friends did not make it...

Chapter 1

One second you were getting off the train stop nearest to your home, surrounded by normal looking people and the next you were standing in a busy station full of people with extra limbs or bright skin colours.

You felt your mind swim in confusion as you stayed still, feet frozen on the ground and eyes darting around the crowds. A familiar mop of green hair and freckles walked past and you quickly ran after.

“Um hello?” you called out, reaching out a hand and grasping his wrist.

“Hi?” he jumped, turning around and nearly tripping over his own feet.

“Sorry!” you said quickly, letting go of his wrist and stepping back. “I thought you looked familiar, maybe not.”

“Ah,” he nodded, pausing slightly before reaching out a hand for a handshake. “Well it’s nice to meet you, I’m Midoriya.”

Your eyes blinked repeatedly, “Like... Midoriya Izuku?”

“Yeah.” he smiled. “I’m guessing you know me from UA’s sports festival?” he rubbed the back of his neck bashfully. “I don’t think I’ve met you before.”

You hurriedly nodded, not wanting to create unwanted suspicion. It was strange to see what had once been a 2d drawing stand before you, and gosh was the human version of him so much cuter.

“I’ve got to go to school now, it was nice meeting you...”

“Y/N.” you smiled, bowing slightly before waving as he ran towards the train.

“Bye Y/N!”

Watching his figure disappear, you realised the reality you had suddenly been thrown into, a fustrated sigh leaving you mouth as you quickly ran towards the exit. Your eyes blurred with tears as the calls you made to people in your world refused to go through.

You were stranded.

Sitting down at the table of a small cafe, you took a sip from your favourite drink as a snowstorm of questions running through your mind. The worldmaster? Alternate dimensions?

You had never once considered that the people in this world were actually alive and not just animated characters. And the worldmasters quirk had accidentally brought you, who was from your dimension, into theirs?

“So...? How do I leave?” you finally asked, deciding that even though you didn’t fully believe this guy, he was the only person knowing of the fact that you were not from here.

“Well it’s simple actually.”

“Really?” you piped up, a smile gracing your features for the first time since you had stepped foot here.

“Yeah.” the worldmaster, Haru nodded, “Since this is like a book to you, you just need to talk to your favourite character.”

“Favourite character?” you racked through your brain to see who was your favourite, your smile and hope instantly shattering as the image of a man with a plague doctor’s mask entered your brain.

“Yeah I don’t think that’s going to happen.” you sulked, burrowing your face into hands as the worldmaster looked at you puzzled.

“Why is that? UA doesn’t have the highest security and pro heros are always happy to talk to their fans.”

“That’s not it.” you groaned, shaking your head before taking another simp.

“Is it a civillain?”

You shook your head once again.

He sucked his teeth in before continuing. “A villain?”

You looked at him and nodded with a sigh.

“Well that’s not the biggest problem either. LOV is all over the kids these days.”

You srunched your nose at him. “Ew, don’t say it like that. And it’s not them either.”

“Are you seriously going to leave me hanging?”

You glared at him, before speaking quickly. “It’s the bloody yakuza.”

He looked at you, mouth open. “Your favourite character, in the whole of our world, is in the Shie Hassaikai.”

“Shut up.” you mumbled, hiding your face as you heard his cackles ring out through the entire shop, red spreading through your face as everyone’s attention turned to you two. “Shut up you’re so obnoxious.”

He eventually died down, before continuing. “Well, there’s no such thing as impossible, I’ll try my best to help you, after all I’m the reason your in this mess.” he sighed.

“You’d better.” you seethed, pouting from the embarrassment. “And how come you’re not helping the heros if you know everything about the past, present and future in this world?”

“I would end up like my ancestor.” he explained. “Our family, as the world masters must remain completely unbiased. In this world we are simply civilians who are socially neutral.”

“Gee, sounds kinda boring.” you snickered, placing the empty cup down on the table. “So where am I staying?”

“That’s a good question.”

“Please tell me you have an answer.”

“Well let’s get you closer to the world of heros and villains first.”

“Um, I don’t have a quirk.”

“No worries. I’ll take care of it.”

“Wait no I don’t want a quirk, Overhaul doesn’t like them.”

“I can’t just manifest you a quirk.” he stated, rolling his eyes. “I mean I’ll get you to stay with one of them.”

“What-”

You stood with your phone in hand, staring up at the dingy alleyway sign. “God I hate it here.” you muttered, wondering why the hell Haru had directed you to this musty highstreet bar. You knew you had to entually start earning money, as your mission at hand did not seem achievable in one day, but out of an entire city’s worth of jobs to apply for, the one he chose for you was... this?

You began to take a step forward before the door swung open suddenly, hitting you square in the face. Staggering a step back, your hands flew over your nose as blood slowly seeped out.

“Shit.” someone yelled. You heard a thump to the ground and watched as he threw the trash bag onto the floor before grabbing your hands. “Hold on let me see.”

“It’s fine.” you grumbled, shaking his grip off before stepping to the side of the door to let him through.

“Dabi.” someone screamed from inside the bar. “Hurry up and throw the trash away and get back in here.”

“Can’t you just wait a minute.” he shouted back. “Fuck um, I’ll be right back.”

He fumbled past, picking up the trash and running down the street as you walked inside, not bothering to wait for him.

“Hi.” you greeted, everyone to turn to you perplexed as you pinced your nose, your blood messibly wiped on your chin.

Shigaraki raised an eyebrow at you from behind his father’s hand as you stood there awkwardly.

“Wow not even a greeting in return? Rude much.” you grumbled, before clearing your throught to hopefully get rid of some of your nerves. “Um, are you hiring?”

“What?”

“Like, do you have any vacancies in your staff so that little old me could possibly occupy?”

“I know what hiring means.”

“Yeah well iI’m sure it didn’t hurt to explain it to you again.” you muttered.

“Wipe your face before you start anything.” Shigaraki muttered, pointing over to a small door in the far corner of the room.

“Will do.”

Slipping into the bathroom, you pulled out your phone, him picking up a few rings in. “Haru I thought you said you weren’t biased, why the hell does the league act like they’re best friends with you.”

“I’m not biased if I’m friends with both sides?” he offers.

“Backstabber.” you quipped, washing your face.

“You know what? Enjoy your home because you’re staying with the league now.”

He’s a blushy mess when you tell him. To be honest I headcanon Levi doesn’t have much real world experience (see: my Levi smut fanfic lmao), just 2D eroge games he’s played, so he gets really shy and confesses the same to you.

Neither of you really know what the heck you’re doing and things get a little awkward - but not in a bad awkward way, just a really sweet awkward because you two are both trying to please each other and figure it out.

Levi’s learned some sexual ideas from his ‘mature’ games, and tries things out on you. For a bit he blabs about the characters from an ecchi anime who did something similar but then realizes “I am being actually literally touched by an actual person who is also inexperienced and nervous, why am I making this even MORE awkward” and turns red and asks what YOU want to do next.

But in general he’s just super happy about it!

Beelzebub:

He lifts you up on his lap when you tell him. Beel can be a little spacey sometimes, but he steps up his game for this and promises he’ll make it easy for you.

He’s not necessarily happy because you’re a virgin - I think Beel would be the sort to not care about that sort of thing - but that doesn’t meant he isn’t happy to be your first. You’re a special person to him so he wants your first time to be special, and it makes him happy that you think he’s worthy of doing that honor!

Not just that he’s with you first (he sees that as a true privilege) but just to be with you at all makes him happy, and this confirms your trust in him in a big way which helps ease some insecurities he felt.

He’s not really sure what the best way to handle the sex itself is. Gently, of course, but he wonders if it’d be best to take the lead or to let you tell him what you want him to do. After a bit of thought, he decides to just ask what would make the act most enjoyable for you.

Solomon:

He gets a mischievous look on his face, grinning in that cute way he does. Solomon may not be opposed to teasing you most of the time, but he holds back now. The mischief present in his expression isn’t from an urge to tease you, but from an urge to see just how cute you’ll be for him.

But, while he won’t tease you over being a virgin, he certainly will pin you to the wall or the bed and talk dirty to you, drinking in your reactions.

There is no doubt about the fact that Solomon enjoys when you get flustered. He uses this as an opportunity to see how much foreplay you can take before you beg him to take your virginity for real.

Simeon:

It's funny how I'm actually putting effort on this. I'm putting actual effort on a shitpost.

Anyways I said I'd write a bad sonic creepypasta so here it is. Here's the catch: I like how its turning out so imma make it a 2-pary story. This is the first part. It doesn't have any scary shit but it has the basics for a shitty creepypasta: someone gets a old pirated/unreleased/defective game and tries them out despite getting warned that bad shit might happen.

Again I'm not a fluent English speaker so expect some grammar error and stuff like that ._.,

So ladies, gentlemen and non-bis, I present to you-

Sonic: Battle of Metal and Blood (Part 1)

Synopsis: Teen gets nostalgic mid-quarentine and starts playing old Sonic games. She asks for some cheat codes and shit happens.

So for context; I'm a 17 year old girl stuck home because of quarantine.

It had been 4 or 5 months since the virus sent everyone home. Students were playing Animal Crossing and DOOM all day to fill in the summer hours since no one could go outside. I never liked going to the beach so I was never really bothered by it.

Like many people, I found myself going back in time to easier phases of my life. I was rewatching old cartoon shows from my childhood, getting into MCR and P!ATD and just living in pure nostalgia. I also started getting into gaming again, even going to the point of setting up my Wii again just to play Epic Mickey, but I didn't exactly grow up with the Wii. I was more of a Playstation kid, so much that me and my bro got a Playstation 2 from our cousin when he eventually bought the 3rd one for himself.

My cousin was older than us; I remember him being 16 or 17 when I was like 12, so he was kind of our gaming hero. If there was a level in Crash Bandicoot we couldn't beat, we'd call my cousin and he'd do it in 15 minutes. He knew all the cheat codes, all the secret levels and extra content for the games he had; he was like a genius to me and my lil bro, so when he gave us his old Playstation 2 and games me and my sibling knew we were in for a treat.

We got this Sonic Gems Collection for the Playstation 2 from him. It's like a port of various older Sonic games like Sonic CD, Sonic The Fighters, Sonic R and so on. I grew up playing that game, especially Sonic The Fighters since I wasn't very good at the racing games.

I still had a working controller and a lot of free time so I asked my bro for help setting up the console. The thing was so dusty I was actually scared it wasn't going to work. We clicked the power button and the light on the console turned on. Me and my brother held our breaths as we put the DVD in the console and crossed our fingers. As the screen lit up with the SEGA logo and music started playing, I just hugged him and cheered. He set up the console in my room so I could play without having to go to his room (he was the one keeping all the electronic stuff) and told me to have fun.

I didn't even know where to start. There was so much I wanted to play now that I actually knew what I was doing. I thought about starting with my favourite one out of the bunch: Sonic CD. I'm a sucker for the retro 2D pixel games so that was a must. It was better than what I remembered; the music was so catchy and the art style was vibrant and it stood out from a lot of games nowadays that go for a washed out "hyper realistic" look.

As I kept playing, I eventually reached the level where Amy tags along with Sonic for a while before Metal Sonic bursts through a wall and kidnaps her. Oh yeah, Metal Sonic was a thing. I remembered him from Sonic R and Sonic The Fighters - and the fact he was in the fucking cover art of the DVD case. I absolutely loved the fucker in the games though. He had a cool design, and the idea of the villain being a copy of the hero gone wrong was so interesting to me at the time.

I ended up passing the level and even making it to Stardust Speedway. I was sweating since I'd never come this far at any game. My bro was there cheering me as I tried not falling on spikes or getting hit by Metal Sonic's attacks. I ended up making it till the end on top, but it was kinda sad seeing Metal crash face-first against the door like that.

I was done with that for a while, so I went ahead and played Sonic R and Sonic The Fighters for nostalgia. Again, the fucker was there, either as a boss or as an unlockable character. I ended up noticing how there were a bunch of games missing. There were empty grayed slots with question marks instead of the game titles. I couldn't understand if the game was broken or if there was something I was supposed to do, so I called my cousin in hope he would somewhat tell me what to do. He ended up explaining how the game made you complete all the other games to unlock new ones. I thought that was kinda stupid so I asked him if he had any cheat codes or something to make the whole thing available. He told me he was going to dig up his old stuff and ring me again if he found anything.

A few hours later, he sent me a message telling me he'd found something that should work. He told me he did have a cheat code but he thought it was best if I didn't do it. Here's the transcript from his message.

"There's something that might work but it's kinda weird. I got this memory card from a friend of mine and he said this should unlock all the hidden contents within the disc, but when I tried it some weird shit started happening. Most of the sonic games were unplayable no matter how many times I restarted the console or cleaned the disc. There should be an extra game slot but that's just a glitch. Something about the system trying to make up storage for the extra code. Just don't click on anything that looks like a glitch and you should be golden"

Well that was a bit discouraging, but we agreed to meet that afternoon so he could give me the memory card.

When I got home and plugged the cartridge into the slot on the console, I was kinda scared. What if the thing exploded or something? I gave it a try and the thing actually worked! As I clicked on the games section, everything was there! There were some vectorman games but I didn't know who that was at the time so I didn't really care about them. What I was more interested in was the museum. There were a bunch of unlockable promotional art and illustrations there that I never got to see as a kid, so you could imagine how joyful I was when I saw the museum section filled with pages upon pages of illustrations and renderings of the games. Some of them weren't even on the Gems Collection like some screenshots of Sonic Heroes.

I went back on the game menu and was surprised to see another game entry below all the vectorman ones. It was called "Sonic: Battle of Metal and Blood". What the hell was this? It surely wasn't in the cover art and a quick google search turned up nothing. Was it a glitch? It couldn't be; it looked too clean and intentionally made to be a glitch, not to mention that whole game titles don't just appear out of thin air. Game or not, something was programmed in there. I concluded it was probably someone's fan project that was in the memory card my cousin gave me. Why hadn't he mentioned it though?

I was too curious to turn down a mystery like this one, so I got up first to make a cup of coffee since it was already getting late. As I returned from the kitchen, I remembered to look at the synopsis of the game. I can't remember exactly what it said but it was something along the lines of:

"In this sequel to the famous Sonic CD, step in the shoes of Sonic's friends as they face their biggest challenge yet. Control Amy Rose and Miles "Tails" Prower and fight against the metallic faker himself, Metal Sonic, and stop him before he puts his plan to become the only Sonic in action"

Woah, that sounded exciting; I wasted no time. I got all cozy, kept my cup of coffee next to me

And pressed START.

THE CGI CONTINUES TO BE A POINT OF CONTENTION. BE HONEST, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE EXECUTION OF CGI SO FAR THIS SEASON? 309 Responses

In general, the fandom appears to be understanding of MAPPA’s usage of CGI, with 38.2% being completely unbothered by it, 20.1% feeling that while it’s not ideal, it could be much worse, and 18.8% not particularly caring for it but not faulting MAPPA for it either. A handful of people just wish that there would be more appreciation that it’s getting animated at all, while others continue to be a bit salty about the usage of CGI this season.

Did people forgot the god-awful Colossal titan's CGI from WIT? Well, I didn't so I wasn't surprised by the same level of CGI in Eren's scene (thankfully just one of them). I rarely have issue with CGI in SnK except for truly awful looking ones so like couple of times in the season, usually.

I honestly wouldn't even know there's CGI if everyone wasn't complaining about it. I honest to god can't see where they use it.

It's mostly fine

I thought the war hammer titan looked AMAZING, the only CGI that looked odd was the scouts in the background, but that’s really it...?

A few sore spots (e.g. Erens titan looked kinda off this ep), but it's not season-ruining yet.

It works fine for titans that already look somewhat mechanical (Armor, Jaw), but it looks incredibly awkward for the others, to the point of taking me out of the story.

Maybe I've been spoiled by studio orange and the previous seasons, but I know for a fact that they can do better. This is not a new anime, this is the final season of one of the greatest anime of all time, so yeah I expected much better CGI, it was poor and unecessary.

I think the CGI for the Titans is completely fine. It's the CGI for the Scouts that was a bit off putting for me. Still, not enough to ruin the episode. And if we continue to get animation of this standard I will be fine with it.

At this point after episode 7 onward eventually AOT CGI is going to be worst than EX-arm's CGI

I think the CGi is well executed (for the most part), I just don't like that they had to use it so much.

Overall the largest chunk, at 24.3%, are enjoying MAPPA’s take on Eren’s iconic “hobo chic” look. 21.1% think Sasha looks the best out of all of them, while Mikasa trails just behind her at 20.1%. 16.1% are grateful for Connie’s design, leaving 9.5% favoring Jean, and smaller handfuls appreciating MAPPA’s take on Levi and Floch.

The series isn’t known for having too much filler, but typically what filler does exist seems to be appreciated by the fandom, and this was no exception. 56.8% of respondents were happy for a little more fleshing out of Willy’s character (also learning that those kids were his!) and being able to sympathize more with him. 19.7% appreciated the more sympathetic addition until they remembered he was willing to throw Liberio under the bus for his plan. 13.5% are appreciative of any and all additional Willy content. A small amount didn’t like the filler and would rather have had MAPPA put their effort into other things.

I’d have rather seen more of the manga animated

I knew why they added it, but I (personally) think willy is crud. Not mad it's there tho!

He did his duty as a Tybur to the very end. Honestly I wish he could have lived longer, he’s a really compelling and interesting character.

I feel like some viewers have carelessly misunderstood Willy because of that scene in the carriage. They're like 'wow, he really hates and shames his own people huh?' but at the beginning of the episode we all saw his abundance of children. Would it not have been extremely contradictory if he had truly wanted the extinction of all Eldians and then at the same time did the complete opposite by mass-reproducing a small army of Eldian children? Maybe that's why that scene was added to the start of the episode, to keep people away from mischaracterising him. Unfortunately, this may have simply been missed or overlooked by some.

Reading the manga, I truly didn't even consider the possibility that these were Willy's children because he is so obviously a ~*bachelor*~. Like, it didn't even cross my mind that those children weren't his little nieces and nephews because he is suuuuch a Theater Gay. Nothing can change my mind.

A minor dialogue change didn’t seem to have much of an effect on nearly half of respondents, with 47.5% saying they’re indifferent to the change. 43.3% like the change much better, feeling that it works a lot better with future story developments and makes more sense. A handful didn’t care for the change and felt it tampered with Magath’s overall characterization.

I think the change was logical and more consistent with the story, but I'm naturally skeptical of any AOT manga-to-anime change.

I suppose the new change is a little contradictory because Magath dislikes Marley’s reliance on Titan power and rather just wishes th ey had prowess in other ways.

Realistically eating him makes more sense for them to eat Eren so they gain control of the Founder but I think Magath accepting the age of Titans is now done for is more in character.

It obviously makes more sense logistically, but I think it's important for Magath to stand opposed to Marley national policy on this front, like, symbolically.

Though they are minor characters, the anime seems to have made some of the fandom a bit more fond of them. Still, 38.5% wouldn’t change anything about their fates, stating that they were necessary for Gabi to develop further as a character. 28% would rather neither of them died and are curious about how they would have developed if they lived to see another day. 23.7% say if they had to pick only one of them, it would be Udo due to his relevant commentary. A handful leaned toward Zofia, wishing they could have learned more about her.

Udo. But at the same time Isayama can barely handle all the characters that are still alive so Udo probably wouldn't get a lot of screen time anyway.

Zofia. I didn't care about her while reading the manga, but in the anime she was more unique. I liked her stoic voice a lot. Zofia and Gabi should have switch the places.

Both versions are devastating, but Manga hit harder bc I just was so confused and couldn't stop trying to figure out wtf Eren was doing and why. Watching it knowing what I know made it somehow more devastating and yet also more palatable (bc I have a better understanding.)

One of the few characters left with no name after the large guidebook released a few years ago, Lady Tybur was all we could call her (aside from fan-given names). Of all the shots in the preview, 45.1% of respondents were most looking forward to Levi’s staged attack on Zeke. 17% favored seeing Mikasa assist Eren, 15% were most looking forward to seeing Falco emerge from the basement to see the carnage outside. 10.1% were stoked to see Pieck enter the battlefield. The episode has aired as of the publishing of these poll results - we hope these scenes lived up to the hype (even though we guessed one wrong lol).

ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?

I enjoyed the episode very much. I felt that the CGI was handled fairly well given the time restraints. However, there were a few instances where it was a bit jarring like Eren eating Willy, Eren pulling the WHT's cord, Mikasa landing on Eren, and Jean climbing up on the roof. Also some of the CGI models looked a bit weird for the scouts. I'm hoping some of these issues can be improved on in the Blue-ray version. Overall, these issues were noticeable but didn't take too much away from my enjoyment of the episode.

As much as I don't like the CGI, episode was great.

Just that it was fantastic and I can't wait for the next one!

After re-visiting the trailer we got for this season, it's just....saddening. Everyone was wondering how Mappa was gonna animate AoT and after seeing that trailer, all that effort by the animators, I thought "it's in good hands!". Now that we're getting the episodes and it's underwhelming. I don't blame the Mappa animators at all and cgi is unavoidable at some moments. But whoever are the higher ups who said "animate this in the shortest amount of time" ARE the assholes. It's so upsetting for this anime and the workers of it to be brought down like this :'(

I’m just grateful Mappa actually gives a shit about adapting the story properly. That alone makes this season a 9/10 for me cause that’s rare to see in the anime industry these days.

THE OST WAS FIRE

Gabi's voice acting was amazing this episode ! Also, it feels good to hear the ODM gear sound effect again. The CGI didn't keep me from enjoying the fight, we got awesome camera movements and good choreography, I'm very hopeful for next episode ! Also best boy Onyankopon might appear soon ?

I don't know if I liked the episode or not. I usually prefer manga so even episodes I like I prefer their manga versions but there is something in off with the episode and usually, Titans fight are more excited but this one Nah it was not at all. War hammer was great in animation it served a better understanding of its powers but the fight, in general, was like boring?? idk maybe because I am a manga reader so the titan power/character's introduction was not as thrilling as they were when I've read the chapters. anyways, there is still more of the attack on liberio in the next episode so I'll give my final thought when we conclude the arc

I really enjoyed and the CGI doesn't bother me.

I think the reason Attack Titan looks a bit off is it looks a bit thinner! Warhammer looks amazing because it's a true copy of the manga. If Attack Titan was a bit buff, I think nobody would have that much of a problem. Overall the chapter is amazing!

as much as i adored everything else i must admit... what is wrong with the character design? what happened to everyone's jaws?? i think jean, mikasa and pieck were the worst drawn. in the manga, they look flawless.

I just hope we would get actual discussions in the sub instead of circle jerking or bitching about the cgi/ost etc.

The soundtrack was epic as hell

Mappa is doing a good job, with the little time they had. But sadly, they had the capacity to do way better and I will always regret this situation. And the Jojo memes on Mikasa are on point: in that specific panel, she looks ugly and unlike her cute face in the manga. For the rest of the episode, she's well portrayed

I think this episode is a taste of what is to come. It’s one thing to read still, silent pictures of complete devastation, and it’s another thing to hear the explosions, the screaming and crying. Seeing the blood painted red instead of black and white. When Eren rumbles the world, more people will realize how evil it is, how completely irredeemable. Less people will be #teameren once they get to see it in the anime. I can’t wait to see what MAPPA has in store.

So many nice details in the battle that weren’t there in the manga, the war hammer animation was particularly great

I feel bad complaining, but this was the first episode of the season that has disappointed me at all. Every other episode I feel has elevated the manga. I don't want (and never expected) to be that person, but the CGI, especially on the humans (WHY??) was so awkward it was distracting. We also lost a little bit of expressiveness from Eren, which is kind of a big deal when there's so little from him to begin with.

It is what it is. But after I finished the episode I went back to watch the trailer and got sad that the season just isn't going to look like that. It's not bad by any means and I understand that these are people, not robots working on this with an extremely tight schedule. This entitled fanbase is super embarrassing with it's behavior and harassment of the people working on it. I kind of hope the final arc doesn't get animated now because these people don't deserve it.

Awesome! I was a bit distracted how the pacing was, cutting a bit weirdly from one episode to another, but I really enjoyed it!

It was emotionless and almost boring. The sound director keeps fucking up big time. I didnt feel anything close to the hype I felt watching the Armored/Colossal reveal animated. There were no exciting goosebumps, or tears. Nothing. Also the CGI was terrible. There were good things, but I expected much more for suck a climatic episode

It was a good episode after all, graphic was ok but i think that if they continued with the same titan 2d animation of first episodes and maybe changed a bit some sound it would have been waaay better. Still a good episode imho

The episode was very average. I'm not trying to complain, I know that the anime is mostly for anime-onlines, while we have a manga, but I expected better. I imagined the titan fight to be smooth, but in reality both - WHT and AT - moved like two, fat elephants. In the manga I felt that WHT was fast like a wind. In the anime Lara was slow, she looked like she had a hard time to even hold her hammer. The moment between Eren and Mikasa was disappointing. In the anime when Mikasa was upset about Eren's actions, he was completely unfeeling, while in the manga we see him being full of emotions and almost crying. I know he will turn into a cold bastard but MAPPA shouldn't dehumanize Eren so much now. I was surprised by Connie's glow up. MAPPA has done better job with him. In the manga he still looks like a kid, while MAPPA made him more mature-looking and masculine. That's good for underrated Connie. I'm grateful for the scene between Willy and his children. This way he feels more sympathetic and isn't ""just a guy who declared a war and was eaten by Eren"".

I really like how the warriors and Marleyans seem to be getting a somewhat equal amount of screen time as the scouts have gotten after they've come into the picture. I hope this helps to make clear for the anime-onlies that understanding the experiences, emotions and the development of the other side is just as important as understanding those of the scouts/Paradis.
