NaNoWriMo Day #1

Starting NaNoWriMo 2023 with a bang! And with a bang I mean power cables were destroyed yesterday morning so we haven’t had power since 8am yesterday.

Currently sitting at a family friend’s house to write my first 2000 words because our internet doesn’t work at home. I’m in an empty room I’ve never seen before in this house!

I came here a lot as a little kid, but I’ve never seen this part of the house before. These friends are two of the nicest old people on the street. I was best friends with their grandson when I was in preschool. So many memories here, playing games and watching TV and running around in the backyard.

But this part of the house occupies none of those memories.

There are thin hallways leading up to all sorts of doors, and multiple steep steps into closed rooms. The room right next to mine has a gate and a lock, with a chair blocking it for good measure.

I’m sitting at a plastic desk in a small room with one small window behind me, leading to a part of the backyard I’ve also never seen before.

It’s so surreal. I love it. We’ll be here until either the power comes back on at home, or until 6pm (when this house loses power).

GOAL: 25,000 WROTE: 50,518 STATUS: half or maybe 2/3 done

well that's not too bad for my first nanowrimo in 10 years! proud of myself, that's something! the story started losing its shine for me during the last week of november, which isn't usually my pattern lol.

(I'm the basic nanowrimo cycle: week 1: out of the gate! week 2: doubting my stupid project week 3: okay everything I've ever thought of sucks week 4: I am going to write 50k even if I have to stop using contractions)

this year, I am really starting to think the whole thing is just plain dumb and lame right at the end of nanowrimo, but I was in good shape wordcountwise so I just trudged ahead. wrote some cute shit. I'm really planning to work on my story through december, and it's dec 1st. so I'm going to just try and write 300 words tonight before I go watch scott pilgrim with my dude.

This is the fastest I've ever hit the 50k words, and here I was thinking I wouldn't hit it until later.

First sentence of the day: He nodded once they’d reached the quartermaster’s office, leaning against the door frame as the man behind the counter sneered at the very sight of Cloud.

Last sentence of the day: “Me, sir?” Cloud couldn’t keep the squeak from his voice.

I'll probably write more later but I have a lot to do so figured I'd post this :)

Doing forum necromancy again over at Steve The WriMo Forum if anyone wants to hang out.

I'll probably set a week-long writing challenge in a few days as well, and I'm almost definitely going to post a list of the WIPs I've been working on in November.

I might even have a NaNoWriMo-style challenge in December. although it feels a bit weird setting those up just for myself.

Oh, and there might be spreadsheets.

Hello again we are on number 13 of the prompt list for camp nanowrimo 2023 I'm skipping the free Fridays so don't worry about those anyways onward ho it's the 29th so I need to finish as much of this today tomorrow and the next day.

Day 13) Rowan us a bit unlucky I'd say she has a few bullies and her dad's a dick but she's gained a bit of luck with her friends billy and stu are ride or die kinds of friends

Day 14) Yes she does!!! Her name is Jamie Lee after Jamie Lee Curtis because Halloween is one of her all time favorite slashers Jamie is a black short-haired cat with a little white star on her chest she's a really smart cat and is Rowans closest companion

Day 15) nah not really I usually physically write scenes down through out the day when they pop into my head then I speech to text them into my main word doc

Day 16) umm usually on the living room couch when it's quiet or in my bed sometimes too

Day 18) Rowan isn't scared of a lot I'd say for intangible the fear of being abandoned and for tangible I'd say wasps she gives every wasp she sees a five foot berth and freezes if one comes up to her she mumbles no no no till it goes away stu saw this happen once and laughed in her face till she smacked when it finally left her alone

Day 19) Rowans favourite food is probably Mac and cheese with hotdogs it was her favourite meal when she was little and when their mom made it it was amazing she doesn't make or get it very often anymore but whenever she does it brings back all those good memories for her

Day 20) inspiration for this WIP is if you haven't already guessed Scream 1996 I watched scream iv recently and got sucked headfirst into the Fandom scream 1 is one of my all time favorite horror movies and Billy and stu are such fun to write too.

Now that she had her instructions from Sheriff Clayton, Annie was fully prepared to form the Public Safety division of South Swynlake Homeowners In It Together. And she knew just the man for the job (because, as it happened, Hercules Kouros was just the man for pretty much any job Annie had. He tended to say yes to things). 

“Alllrighty!” Annie said, plopping her big fat binder of SSHIIT materials down on once she had gotten tea and snacks and trapped Herc at her kitchen table. “I’ve have a really exciting new initiative. I think you’re going to love it. And I want you to be in charge!”
