I just need to address this perspective to clarify a few things for anyone who may be preparing to come at me with something similar:

Native Hawai'ian people are obviously very aware that tourism is their state's main source of income right now. They live there. It's where they live.

They address this point a lot, in great detail, in their own words/posts/papers about activism in Hawai'i. There is a huge push for economic reform. I am not a spokesperson, I can't cover ever single talking point in a short tumblr post, I'm simply trying to make you guys aware of this point because we overlook indigenous issues in this country. If you have questions now that you're aware, seek out the people who are living in and speaking out about this situation they are plentiful and very, very public.

If my posts are your first exposure to this or any issue, maybe consider that you do not yet have all of the information about said issue. Maybe give these Native people who have been advocating for tourism reform for decades a little more credit than to assume they wouldn't consider literally the most obvious conflict with their position right off the bat.

Ya know when people told me "when you're finally safe enough that you can leave survival mode and start to let go of and process your c-ptsd/trauma things are probably going to get really, really bad before they slowly start to get better" I thought that was reasonable. I did not understand that by "things are going to get bad" they meant "you're going to find yourself in the worst mental state of your entire life, but dw, that means it's working" and tbh I simply wish someone had been more clear.

Edit: If everyone could please take a minute and think about what it must feel like to be struggling and then have multiple strangers say to your face that they find the prospect of going through what you're going through so horrifying that they'd rather kill themselves and then stop leaving comments like that I would greatly appreciate it.
