OOOO- this got ideas flowing! This was super fun to write! I feel as if it's an underused concept too.

●It was all fun and games. Literally. You ran around the vr world of gotham with no thoughts of anything going on behind the scenes.

●When Riddler first popped up, taunting and challenging you like usual, it surprised you. Maybe even startled you a little with his greeting.

"So I've finally found you. Yes. You. The brains behind the brawn."

●You figured it was just a clever voiceline detail. Making him self aware and all. RIddler had broken the 4th wall in the past, and Arkham Knight VR wouldn't be the first game to do this kinda thing. Take DDLC for example. It was just a gag. Right?

●You found the riddlers secrets just fine, picking up little cube after cube, faster than most actually. It was fun, challenging rewarding. You'd talk throughout the game to yourself and make some witty jokes. You thought nothing of it, but something else surely did.

●You notice.. maybe after a month. The voicelines seem- they feel, more personal. More directed. More specific, but they're still vague. It was just a coincidence right? Maybe the game was just reading off the information from your VR and connected accounts.

●So the games coutinue! Nothing gets better. He starts talking during segments you know he isn't supposed be. You start to see glimpses of green out of the corner of your eye. Did you meerely get a buggy defective game? Was paranoia fogging your brain? Were you going insane?

●You take a break from the game. Hoping it will relive the stress you were under. You do some chores, go out on a walk, and play some games on your phone or PC.. which are running slower than usual. Strange, you could have sworn it fine yesterday. You check for viruses, nothing. You turn it on and off. It helps a bit. You free up some storage and It's back to working order for the most part.

●You find various electronics turned on when you could have sworn they were off. They're running slow again, barely working. The only thing that works is the VR game.. you reluctantly put the headset on.

●It was fine at first. Then it wasn't. He was talking directly to you. Referring to you by your name. Taunting you. Telling you personal information he couldn't have gotten. Appearing in the darkness of the out of bounds area in front of you. Your heart and mind racing as he gets closer, you desperately reach up to pull the headset off-

●Only to find nothing. There's nothing. No headset to pull off. No controllers in your hand. Nothing. Unable to go back. The only thing you're greeted which is the Riddler standing in front of you.. face to face. Only inches away.

"It's not so much of a game anymore is it?"

Affection: How do they show their love and affection? How intense would it get?

Riddler often contradicts himself with his feelings. He both wants you to praise and worship him, yet he also wants to cling and praise you for staying with him. He's an insecure narcissist which can make him a handful of a yandere.

He's intense and very emotional as a yandere. He can both be ruthless with you yet soft. Riddler is a mess of emotions which makes him come off as overbearing and needy as a yandere.

Much to your discomfort.

Blood: How messy are they willing to get when it comes to their darling?

Riddler doesn't really like to get his hands dirty that much. He may make robots or traps/riddles to do it. Point is, he wouldn't really kill someone barehanded.

He tends to use his genius and tools to solve such an issue.

Cruelty: How would they treat their darling once abducted? Would they mock them?

Yeah, Riddler does seem like the type to mock his darling. He'd outright mock them or tease them at first before realizing that isn't going to yield results.

He'd most likely restrain you somewhere, be it to a bed or a chair. He may even give you a collar like he did to Catwoman in Arkham Knight. That way it shows ownership and fuels his ego.

Of course, he'll show you physical affection like holding you or kissing you. After all you're his now. Once he has you he feels he can do whatever now.

He tells you frequently that he loves you and expects you to say the same.

Darling: Aside from abduction, would they do anything against their darling’s will?

Most likely. Riddler can seem rather forceful at times.

Exposed: How much of their heart do they bare to their darling? How vulnerable are they when it comes to their darling?

A lot more than you think. Riddler tries to play it off like you mean less than you actually do. That often fails though as he can't resist the sudden urge to cling to you, trauma dumping all the way.

He pours his heart out to you at times to the point it's uncomfortable. Uncomfortable because he's kidnapped you and you are unable to leave while your captor is rambling in your lap. Then he tries to brush it off like it didn't happen.

You take up most of his heart.

Fight: How would they feel if their darling fought back?

Genuinely offended. He has such an ego he can't believe you'd decline his love. It irritates him to the point he threatens you with something to keep you in line.

If that doesn't work he'll just use more restraints.

Game: Is this a game to them? How much would they enjoy watching their darling try to escape?

He'd put you through puzzles and riddles with the empty promise of escape. He's lying but it's fun to see how desperate you are. If this is how you were trying to escape, it's a wonderful game!

Other than that he doesn't like the idea of you leaving him.

He doesn't want to be abandoned.

Hell: What would be their darling’s worst experience with them?

Probably his constant emotional breakdowns. The moment you get one where he's aggressive it scares you.

The whole being kidnapped thing is bad, but seeing him so unstable and not being able to leave frightens you.

He'll refrain from harming you, but deep down you fear him even more when he starts wrecking robots over something involving you.

Ideals: What kind of future do they have in mind for/with their darling?

Hard to tell. Riddler probably just wants someone who won't leave him and can give him genuine care. He's trying to get that from you, yet he's so unstable it becomes difficult.

He just wants someone to appreciate him for what he is and love him endlessly.

Something he probably will not get with you at this point.

Jealousy: Do they get jealous? Do they lash out or find a way to cope?

Yes, extremely. He gets very petty and probably even has tantrums or breakdowns because of it.

He'd lash out verbally and probably find a way to remove the person causing the issue. He can't cope just in general.

Kisses: How do they act around or with their darling?

Emotionally erratic, constantly swapping from being egotistical and arrogant to a needy manchild.

Can't blame him too much, have you seen his backstory?

He'd be overly affectionate at times then pick you apart mentally. He'll hold you and never let go, desperately trying to kiss you somewhere in order to get your attention.

Then the next moment he's criticizing your feelings about the "relationship".

He's... really hard to figure out.

Love letters: How would they go about courting or approaching their darling?

At first he finds ways to stalk you from afar. CCTV seems to help him. He'd observe you and test you with little riddles and tests before deciding on what he wants to do.

He takes his time watching you before finding a way to kidnap you. He doesn't dare meet you in person. Not until he knows he has you, at least!

Mask: Are their true colors drastically different from the way they act around everyone else?

Yeah, around you he's much more vulnerable.

Naughty: How would they punish their darling?

Isolation and degrading acts. He'll verbally pick apart your insecurities and leave you alone in a room for hours if he's upset at you.

It's not violent, but it's enough to hurt your mental state.

Oppression: How many rights would they take away from their darling?

Most if not all.

Patience: How patient are they with their darling?

At times he can be patient, most of the time he is not.

Quit: If their darling dies, leaves, or successfully escapes, would they ever be able to move on?

Debatable. If you died he may not recover for years.

If you escaped he'll hunt you down in Gotham. Surely he'll find you eventually... surely....

Regret: Would they ever feel guilty about abducting their darling? Would they ever let their darling go?

No and most likely not.

Stigma: What brought about this side of them (childhood, curiosity, etc)?

Childhood trauma seems the most likely.

Tears: How do they feel about seeing their darling scream, cry, and/or isolate themselves?

He'd be unsure on how to approach it at first. He isn't the best with comfort or emotions so he comes off as awkward.

He'd be more likely to sit and watch while waiting for it to subside. Yet he may also awkwardly try to comfort you.

He's bad at it.

Unique: Would they do anything different from the classic yandere?

He's extremely unstable and tends to be erratic with his obsession.

Vice: What weakness can their darling exploit in order to escape?

Showing genuine care. He has trust issues so you'll have to keep it up a bit, but soon he'll fall for it.

Then you can use his acceptance of you to your advantage.

Wit’s end: Would they ever hurt their darling?

Maybe during a breakdown. It's mostly all emotional pain.

Xoanon: How much would they revere or worship their darling? To what length would they go to win their darling over?

While he likes to be worshipped, he would worship his darling. He goes to great lengths to have you and wants to bring you anything to show you he loves and worships you.

Freedom is off limits.

Yearn: How long do they pine after their darling before they snap?

Not long. He'll put you through little tests before kidnapping you, but obsession is close to first sight.

Zenith: Would they ever break their darling?

Yes, but he doesn't really intend it.

D - Depraved: Does your yandere have a shrine? (If so, what's on it?)

I don't think Ed is really the type to have a dedicated shrine, though I do think he'd have keepsakes of yours around his work area or on his person. Pictures of you, writings or doodles you may have made that he was able to snatch up (maybe even saved out of the trash), pieces of clothing that he was able to cut or rip off… You know, normal stuff! Little things to sate him while he couldn't be with you.

I can also see him considering the crimes he committed in your names as a sort of ‘shrine to your love’.

E - Erratic: How unpredictable are they? How quick are mood changes?

Ed prefers sticking to plans when it comes to his crimes, but he can be prone to unpredictability when it comes to social interactions, typically. He can be prone to paranoia and reading into things. Inconsequential words or even a change in tone or expression could be suddenly seen as slights or insults against The Riddler, which can lead to explosions of anger and accusations of betrayal towards civilians, the authorities, Batman, or in the latter case, his hired help. 

But with you, Riddler feels at ease. Any paranoia is soothed by your presence. With you, he feels so at ease. So right. His equal. His match. His soulmate! Any desperate need for validation is quelled by you. Even if you argue and fight with him, he'd know it's not anything you have against him - well, not really. It's not your fault you've been lied to! You'll understand that you and he were meant to be after he helps you unlearn all the horrible things the idiots of this city have force-fed you.

After all, if you weren't perfect for one another, why did he feel so safe and secure with you?

I - Intimacy: How intimate are they with their darling?

Ed is so touch-starved it's not even funny. He never wanted to be separated from you! Be prepared to be basically smothered in affection. Hugging, cuddling, nuzzling, smothering you in kisses - everything he's missed out on, he wants to finally make up for. All his time spent waiting for the perfect partner is finally worth it now that you're here! And as stated above, he won't get angry if you don't reciprocate. You're just confused, it's okay. 

Any attempts at fighting him or cursing him out will just lead to him cooing to you condescendingly as he ties you up in restraints so you can calm down… Though, he may not be able to hold back from being affectionate before you're done with your time-out. He just adored you so much! You know, exposure therapy is a very effective treatment for aversions, and this would be the perfect opportunity to show how wrong all those fools in this cesspool of a city were.

For Arkham Riddler: his darling has not adjusted at all and they kind of just hate him

"I will NEVER love you! Why the hell can't you understand that? What do I have to do so that you'll finally fucking let me go?!"

His face turns red and he glares at you while clenching his cane tightly. Just when you think he's about to rush at you and attack you with it, his eyes narrow and his voice becomes dangerously quiet. "Riddle me this: You can have it, and be at it--but denying me like this means you will never know it."

As you struggle to think of the answer, he gives you a cruel smile and puts the question mark end of his cane under your chin. "Sometimes I wonder how I managed to fall for such an ignoramus," he says smugly. "The answer is...peace."

he reads so heavily into everything you do. eddie is convinced that every action, every word you say, is an encrypted message that he must decode.

his relationship with you would be a very parasocial one i think. in eddie's mind, you know just as much about him as he knows about you. anything you say or post online is meant for him and him alone.

packages with no return addresses end up at your door, filled with enigmatic riddles and puzzles that leave you with more questions than answers, but they all have the same motif: love.

you leave many of his puzzles scattered about your place, allowing him access to your private life through the hidden cameras in them. he keeps notebooks containing all of your information, from what foods you like down to the smallest little mannerisms.

when he finally kidnaps you, he keeps you in his underground bunker and fits you with a shock collar (engraved with his title, of course) that sends agonizing shots of electricity through your body at the push of a button.

deep down, eddie is desperate for your praise. he shows off each and every riddle and contraption, explaining all the little intricacies ad nauseam in order to impress you. when you seem disinterested, or you even have the gall to criticize his creation, he'll fly into a rage, insulting your intelligence. later on, you'll find the contraption somewhere on the floor, broken beyond repair.

(also now that i think about it, depending on which arkham game we're talking abt he'd behave a lot differently...)

origins eddie would be a lot more subdued. there's still that obsession, that desire to test you and study every aspect of you, but i don't think he'd kidnap you.

it's a long time before he makes his presence known to you, appearing on your phone screen as a bespectacled, obscured figure. he introduces himself as enigma, his plan to release all of the blackmail on gotham's most corrupt people, and how long he's been watching you for, thinking that it'll win you over.

when it obviously doesn't, eddie's confused, disappointed, enraged. he can't wrap his mind around why someone as smart as you doesn't understand how perfect of a duo the two of you would be. he knows you're smarter than this, why don't you understand? why don't you love him?

he's not gonna admit that you outsmarted him. but he knows it, he knows it good and well, and it just makes him worse

however this does mean that when he catches up to you, the security has gone up about 100 notches since the last time you were in his "care".

He doesn’t bat an eye when he hears through the Arkham grapevine that he’s being transferred over to another psychiatrist,he’s probably the patient with a record of making the most many doctors quit due to becoming a “problem”

But then he gets taken to your office by arkham security and gets the surprise of his life,a clean newly decorated office. A newbie? Now? With him?

Was sharp trying to get you killed? Was he the entry test?

But then he actually meets your bright smiling face and he’s enamored.

An extremely intelligent graduate fresh out of GSU.

His first session with you starts off with him testing the waters like he does with all his previous psychiatrists. When you actually guess one of his riddles right he genuinely feels his heart skip.

After that session he starts actually being excited about going to see you now. Wanting to see how far that intelligence goes. He also asks one of his informants on the outside to run some checks,your rather interesting aren’t you?

That’s when his possessive qualities start to strike out. Trying to extend his time with you past your allotted hour,he starts scaring the guards to leave him be with you a little longer.

You’re convinced he’s getting better

Of course when you find a book of riddles all scribbled in on your desk,that you know you didn’t put there,you get concerned.

Your next session you bring it up but he just sits their smirking playing innocent.

“Now why would I be out of my cell? That’s definitely against the rules,after all, you said I’m getting better aren’t I?”

A few days later one of your patients ends up dead. zsasz somehow got his hands on a knife. And then another death,and another,and another.

Let’s just say the next few months are not well….

Constantly flirting,manipulating and testing his way with you becomes the regular occurrence for a couple of months. Making you come with for crimes,constantly sneaking pecks on the cheek all while he’s got a firm eye on you. Finally you and him outside of that hell hole! Now you don’t have to wait to have a session with him!

Of course the threat of everything you love being ended is always on the table,he’s made elaborate traps dear,he isn’t afraid to hook anyone you love up in them

At one point he kissed you so deep you accidentally moaned. He was practically ecstatic for hours!

“Edward I didn’t mean…..!” “No no my dear I understand well. My genius is rather attractive isn’t it?~

The only reason it took the detective so long was because Edward kept leaving clues that lead to nothing,he eventually got too cocky leading him to go back to Arkham.

By this point you left your dream job,your degree a danger now but unable to move out of Gotham now due to gcpd witness protection. Batman promising he wasn’t coming back.

However a few months later your freedom certainly doesn’t last as you come home to find a riddle on your bed.

Okay so, I presume this is during Knight, I don’t know why, but his appearance in that game gives me the most yandere or possible yandere vibes. Idk why.

So, how would he become a yandere is a very good question, that is rather easy to answer.

When he sees you, he sees a shining light. Someone who is on the same level as him, someone whose brighter and smarter then everyone else in this hellscape of a city. Someone who would be perfect to be with him.

I mean you were just like him! Smart, problem solving, absolutely stunning! Why would he let you be oogled and stared at by other men, when he can do you a favor, and take you himself.

As I said he sees what he does as a favor. You should be grateful! The worlds smartest man has taken you in, why should you complain? It’s better then being out there.

Okay but going back to him first seeing you and stuff.

He was probably scooping out perfect victims for his new trap, he needed someone your weight and height, but he didn’t expect to find you.

You had been out on his radar after he spotted you out somewhere. He quickly found your name, your address, your criminal record (if you have one), your personal info, everything like that.

He began to watch you, to figure out the best time to snatch you up, when he began to realize who you were. Not in a literal sense he already knew who you were, but your true personality.

Your wit, your kindness, your love for everyone and everything around you. Most of all your intelligence and determination to problem solve.

At first he laughed, someone trying to be as good as he was, but he kept watching, unable to rip his eyes from you while watching play a puzzle game through your monitor. Being amazed as you solved the puzzles almost as quickly as he did.

He began to watch you more and more, through anything he could. Computer cameras, phone cameras, surveillance cameras, having his men follow your around and reporting back to him.

He said it was simply because he needed to know more about you, to make sure you’d be perfect for his trap.

But everyone knew that was a lie. He watched you for hours on end, even if you were simply sleeping, or scrolling through your phone. He’s skip meals, forget to sleep and bathe, he’s even forget to do his work. He just, stared, not knowing why, he just felt so compelled to.

When he was finally pulled to his senses as you were in a cafe, talking, chatting, even laughing, with another man.

Watching you, listening to your conversations and it’s this mystery stranger, god it made his blood boil. He didn’t like it, he hated it even. His new obsession was being chatted up by a new fella.

He had spent the last- he didn’t even know how long, must’ve been week, maybe even months, doing nothing but watching you. Writing down every little detail of you, and this- absolute bastard thinks he can just come on and ruin it!

He hates that he cares so much about this, about you. He then started to build a new trap, a new torture room. Suited specifically for that man you were talking to, and unlike the other ones, this one was impossible for I get out of. Well, maybe not for you, but for that wretch you were talking to.

He was nothing, he was worthless. He didn’t deserve to talk to you, and you bet Ed was going to make that known.

He was going to broadcast it, to everyone. Making sure the entire city knew how stupid this man was, not being able to solve simple puzzles. He was especially excited to see your reaction, when you realized the man who was talking to was a complete fool, a moron.

After that he becomes more protective, more obsessive over you. Fuck he won’t admit it, but he needs you.

This leads to his plan, he makes him home luxurious, a place you would never want to leave. He keeps you there, making sure he was the only one to be able to be with you, to talk to you, to touch you.

He orders his henchmen to stop whatever there doing, and start doing all these, what seems to be random tasks for him. Clean up his home, buy new furniture, make it seem like his home was a haven. A sanctuary from the outside world.

While they are doing that, he starts making his crimes more extravagant, an almost mystical vibe. He does anything to draw attention from you, and when he watches you watch the news broadcast, he’s paying attention to every little thing your doing.

Are you watching? Did you like his performance? Are you blushing when they show his face? Was that a smile? Did you like it?? Should he do it again? Whatever draws your attention most is what he’ll do.

He then approached you, although not in person, through letter.

He sends you a letter, a pale white envelope sealed with a green heart sticker. A hand written letter lying inside, compared to his usual handwriting, you would never guess it was from him, by the beautiful cursive he practiced so hard to do.

“Dear S/O, please don’t be alarmed, but I’ve been watching you for quite awhile now. I know that sounds bad, but I promise no bad intentions come with my observing. I wanted you to know, I know how you feel, how you think, how you know and how you love. I would come and see you, but this’ll have to do. - E.N,”

This letter rocked you to your core, someone has been watching you? Before you could even process this, a cloth is placed over your mouth.

He had sent one of his men to come take you back to his home.

When you arrived he was thrilled. Finally, you were here. After all of the preparing he had done, you had finally arrived.

He cannot wait to show you everything, his home, his intelligence, and all that he’s done for you.

A fight for dominance through withholding one another's wants and needs.

Sooo I haven't seen Chainsaw Man but i have read up as best as I could for Makima and gosh isn't she a darling/j but I hope I did her character interpretation justice!

Warning: This chapter might contain suggestive and Yandere themes, that may be uncomfortable to some.

There is something about two dominant people fighting who gets the upper hand. Edward was particularly defensive about it, constantly asserting and making himself appear the more cerebrally superior. Edward, the "I can do anything and everything in the best way possible, so you best chose me. Love me. Obey me" kind of Yandere. Then there was you, playing into his little game, knowing which strings to pull for him to do your bidding. It was just so fucking easy to make him think he is in control.

Everything he does was to appeal to you, he claims it is simply him showing the natural skillset no one will ever possess but deep down, he does it all for you. He wanted you, because you are the most unattainable of all, the best for him. Oh, playing hard and yet simultaneously, easy to give in? Hot and cold and complicated... Just like his machines, oh he could definitely fix you to be purely his.

What you ask of him is vigilante by nature, necessary evil, if you may say so yourself. No harm of manipulating an eager, possessive narcissist who is always hell-bent of proving himself as the most superior. It is an exchange, in hindsight really. Just two fucked up people wanting something from each other, coming to a compromise... For a man who spent so much of his time cooped up in the lab, working tirelessly to outwit his nemesis, Edward was surprisingly good at keeping you in your place, as if he knew where you were at all times

You figured he must’ve been tracking you with those little black tags he put on the back of your shirts, and so with your little craft scissors (the only sharp object he allowed you to have), you cut them out as best you could.

It was difficult to make out the time, with being in a bunker and all (Edward was allergic to natural sunlight), so you used the watch Edward gave you last Christmas to wait until it was late at night, pretending to fall asleep.

You figured you had him fooled when he came to check on you at your bedtime, and all he did was tuck you in, extra snug…

You quietly snuck out of your room, leaving the tags you cut out on your bed

You knew there was an opening near his lab, big enough for you to fit through, and the only thing bringing fresh air in

You thought you had gotten away with it as you crawled through the vent carefully

All of a sudden, your watch switched on and off, playing an obnoxiously loud sound

And while you were desperately trying to shut it off, you fell right through the bottom of the vent, screaming your head off

Landing right into the clutches of your dear old father.

You swear you could see smoke coming out of his ears

“You really thought you could escape this place without me knowing? I’ll have you know, I’m always ten steps ahead of you!”

You find out later that the watch can’t be taken off…

He knew escaping wasn’t out of the question for you, but he figured you were too cowardly to go through with it

He’ll move your bed into his lab, and if you’re not there by a certain time, he’ll have to give you your lashes…

He doesn’t care that you can barely sleep at night because of how loud his work is

If you wanted to be able to function like a normal human being, then you should’ve behaved.

He’ll deprive you of food and water, see how long you last if you want to keep this up

He’s perfectly fine ignoring your whining in favor of his machines

If that doesn’t work, and you still reject his “fatherly love” (aka berating you as he awkwardly pats your back), or keep having these little fantasies about ever leaving him, well, there are other ways of making you do what he wants…

He’ll update the watch with a new feature: electroshock therapy!

Now now, if you don’t want to be convulsing on the floor like the pathetic little rat you are, maybe you shouldn’t act like such a brat.

●The next thing you know a slap echoes throughout the room and there's a stinging feeling on your face. You could have sworn he almost broke your nose with the amount of force he used.

●Now I generally headcanon that he wouldn't hurt his darling however.. this might be the only exception. After all you cheated on him in his eyes. (Even though it was and still is a forced relationship from the beginning)

●There's screaming, yelling, degrading insults, name calling, cursing, him throwing and kicking things recklessly, and making threatening gestures towards you. He isn't going to let you leave either. If you try to leave in the middle of his meltdown he's grabbing you by the collar and dragging you back. He dosen't care how much he scares or hurts you.

●You're being locked in a room after. No lights. All your person belongings taken away. Just a mattress. You're in there for almost 2 days while he seethes and rages.

●When you're let out he dosen't even speak to you. He just huffs and drags you out. He drags you to a screen, forcing you to look. The person you cheated on him with, your friends, and your family in one of his various of escape rooms. Ones with no solution.

●You're forced to look at the screen as the ones you love let out cries of fear and agony as they desperately scramble to solve the impossible conundrum. Wacthing them die in the room one by one, whether it be by the electric floor, the rolling spikes, or the slowly closing in walls. He won't let you look away. Holding your head in place.

●"No, no, no don't you dare turn your head away! You don't get to do that! You're going to wacth the consequences of your actions! None of this would be happening if you hadn't decided to be a.. a.. filthy... cheater!"

●Now matter how much you sob and scream he dosen't respond. He just sneers at you with disgust. No pity. No remorse. No nothing.

●For the next few months, you're mainly isolated away from him in a dark room or kept in the same room as him. Security is higher than before. You get no access to the internet. He barely acknowledges you except for an insult or sneer. No affection. Psychical or verbal. Just deafening silence. It'll take a few months before he even starts to cool off again.

The Riddler has always been a cryptic man. He's been known for his riddles around Gotham. Everything is a riddle with him...

Including his romantic intentions.

He's an insecure and confusing man to understand. There's times he wants to force you, his obsession, to worship him and the ground he walks on. Then there's other times where he wants to worship you... acting like you're the best thing that's ever happened to him.

There's times he wants you to call his name... then there's times he hates to hear it. The Riddler both wants to be held yet left alone.

His toughest riddle is how to show him affection.

The Riddler has been hooked on you for a long time. Way before he managed to keep you in a cage of his design... you caught his eye.

You were an ally of Batman... a smart one, too.

Your intelligence rivaled that of the detective himself. The Riddler at first felt threatened. Batman humiliated him all the time, now you were going to join him?

Yet... you didn't. You solved his riddles but he never got too upset about it. The Riddler found your presence pleasant compared to the Batman.

Each riddle he made you complete felt like a game. He wasn't sure why he felt so different towards you, he doubted you even thought of him the same. Perhaps you just weren't as judging?

Maybe you being different was simply an illusion crafted from his mind to excuse his abnormal adoration towards you.

He'd never say this out loud until he had you to himself but The Riddler had fallen for you. At first he simply had you participate in riddles with Batman. Then he removed Batman all together.

It became your form of bonding... each time he saw you, it drove him insane.

Even his conversations towards you became awkward flirting you'd always refuse.

"Have I mentioned how great you look tonight, dear? I made this one all for you...."

"How DARE you think you're too good for me!" You recall him saying. "I will chase you forever until I finally get you to myself!"

He'd flirt before every little puzzle of his, only to get frustrated when you turn him down. It's a quick switch in mood and you tried to only set him off at the end of his riddles.

You quickly noticed his motive with his riddles. Each riddle after that was strangely related to you or him. He was also getting desperate with his flirting until he snapped one day.

"Why do you want to know?"

"Do you have a thing with the Bat!?" He yelled at you once, you could hear the growl in his voice. "... you know we can't have that, dear."

"It's simple..." You remember The Riddler saying before starting the final riddle he prepared for you. "You will be mine."

The riddle planned for you was a trap. Pass or fail, your fate would've been the same. Tossed into a cage with irritating green paint... right in front of The Riddler himself.

That was when The Riddler finally had you to himself. It required some cheating, sure, but he's won this game of romance. That's all it was in his mind,

A game of courtship that he was leading you through... testing you to see if you were right for him.

Now... you truly are his. All locked in a cage... collar around your neck... looking like his little pet more than some sidekick. He liked the confidence you gave him.

Meanwhile you're trying to hold out until Batman comes around. For now... you have to follow his little games. Each day is a new riddle... something else to solve so you can keep Riddler entertained.

He liked to work your mind. He loved to watch you solve something. What he adored even more was how affectionate you got when he threatened you.

You may have never said it... but he knows Batman is coming. You may be affectionate now... yet he knew you'd turn right around once Batman came in the picture. The thought angered him...

But Riddler is prepared.

He'll make his deadliest riddle yet... once the bat is gone, then he'll finally have you all to himself.

A - Attachment: How do they become obsessed?

There's just a certain charm about you that draws Edward toward you. He believes that in a city of idiots and fools, you are the only one that can match up to him. His soulmate!

He knows that it is your clever mind that will lead you to realize that you and he belong together.

G - Good: Do they reward their darling for good behavior?

Edward is very big on praise - maybe not toward anyone else, but for you, Edward believes in only positive reinforcement. If you act out or try to attack him, he'll have you momentarily restrained until you calm yourself, cooing to you condescendingly as he holds your face in his hands. He's nothing but smiles as he assures you he understands, you're confused, scared, believed the lies everyone had told you about him. In time, he'll show you your worries were unfounded.

When you're being 'good', Ed is overjoyed! He'll smother you with kissed and hugs and praise you endlessly. You were so smart, finally realizing that this was where you belonged. With him. Forever.

S - Self-Indulgent: How possessive are they? (If at all?)

If at all possible, Edward would gladly just. Keep you locked up in on of his many hideouts forever. He doesn't like people looking at you, talking to you, touching you...! They didn't deserve to even breathe the same air as you, let alone gaze upon your gorgeousity! He didn't even like the thought of any of his hired help being near you. The thought of someone, anyone, trying to taint you with their lies... It made him so furious, he'd tremble with rage as he held you in his arms, safe from the outside world.

A - Attachment: How do they become obsessed?

I could see Jonathan becoming fixated upon a favored pupil of his, or perhaps a victim or hostage whose fear he found particularly... Alluring. He'll only become more enthralled by you the more he looks into you. He doesn't want to hurt you, no... But, scare you? Oh, how could Jonathan be expected to control himself it comes to you. He's almost addicted to using his fear toxin on you. He loves looking at the frightened expression on you, and the way you cuddle up against him for comfort, disoriented even as the toxin dissipates from your system.

G - Good: Do they reward their darling for good behavior?

Crane loves to compliment you, tell you everything he finds perfect about you. He'll also be especially physically affectionate, lots of hugs and lifting his mask to pepper kisses against your face. He'll also, almost teasingly, run his needle-tipped gloved fingers across your skin. He doesn't mean to actually break the skin, but accidents do happen... He'll hold you as you begin to tremble with fear, cooing praises as you fall apart in his hold.

S - Self-Indulgent: How possessive are they? (If at all?)

Jonathan is fine with his henchmen being around you, if need be. Usually, he'll allow short conversations or them fetching something for you. He's also usually fine with a few of his friends coming around, if he trusts them. For instance, Jervis is always welcome and Jonathan enjoys listening in on your conversations or even joining the two of you.

Anyone such as the authorities or Batman, however, will completely enrage him. The thought of you being stolen from him is too terrifying a thought even for the Master of Fear himself.

(For Arkhamverse!Riddler/Edward): "Riddle me this... what kind of kidnapper who claims to love me won't even take me out on a date? And no, watching while you plan out your awful traps doesn't count as a date, Edward."

"Why doesn't it count? It's not my fault you're not as aroused as I am by drafting schematics for electromagnetic locks and testing hydraulic pistons!" He frowns. "Um. Forget I said that." He sets down his pencil and moves away from his desk, covered with various papers and supplies. "Maybe I can make a suitable mechanical copy of myself to keep you occupied, just until my plan is ready to unveil to Gotham? Hm...no, there's no replacement for me, that won't work." He pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs.

"I suppose I could use a break. I haven't slept in about 53 hours." He snapped his fingers and smiled. "Got it! I will have my newest robotic creations procure some materials for a romantic evening in our apartment. Food from the best restaurant in the city, a few films I can display on the projector. I can easily add a massage protocol to them so we can both enjoy a well-deserved night of relaxation. That way you don't feel the need to complain about me neglecting you, and I can give my babies--er, my robotic creations--a new kind of real-world test."

[?] your fear of him doesn't stop him from being spending time with you. if anything, he'll be even more doting, thinking that you just needed to get used to him, that you aren't accustomed to being treated as well as he treats you.

[?] a man can only be so patient though, soon enough your constant crying and aversion will get to him, and he'll lash out. he'll grab you by your shoulders and force you to look him in his eyes, furiously asking why you can't even look at him. he doesn't realize that by punishing you, he's only making you more afraid.

[?] i can definitely see eddie being very physically affectionate, but only if he's the one initiating it. there are moments where after working for hours on a puzzle or contraption he'll just silently fall into your arms, uncaring to your shaking and the audible pounding of your heart

[?] he thinks part of your fear comes with his appearance. by arkham knight, eddie is visibly more disheveled as he loses all desire to take care of himself. mirrors are smashed to pieces, any reflective surfaces are smeared with green paint or dirt. if he's so disgusted with himself, why would you feel any differently?
