Things you said I wasn't meant to hear and when I was sick
...
For Link and Zelda muhahaha
sir!!!! mmkay here you go you forced my hand!!!! and don't accuse me of cheating it COUNTS!!!! your fave things for you, ER and babies and i am giggling.
MJ feels the mattress dip ever so slightly and channels her acting skills into keeping her face neutral and her breathing steady. She hasn't told Peter she sleeps better when he's next to her because she knows he'll still need to go out. She knew when they discussed whether he even wanted to pull the spandex back on after so long. But Spider-Man was always part of him, it made him who he was and she loves seeing that side of him.
She just loves it a little more when he crawls through their window at three am safe and sound.
Still, she knows he's always felt guilty for leaving her and even more so now she's pregnant, so she keeps her eyes closed and her snoring light as he settles into bed next to her. She'll move around soon, pushing him into the shower because he's not clean even if he did take his suit off. But for right now, she lets him push her hair from her face and rest his hand against her stomach.
MJ knows she feels equal parts excited and equal parts terrified to bring a baby into the world but Peter has never been anything other than ecstatic from the moment he was able to hear the heartbeat.
"Hey Link," he whispers against her stomach and she barely resists the urge to roll her eyes if only because she knows he'll hear it. She's convinced they're having a girl and Peter thinks they're having a boy - they don't mind, obviously. They only want a happy, healthy baby.
Maybe one that's a little sticky if MJ really had to think about it.
"I know your mumma isn't going to let me call you that," Peter grumbles, shuffling down the mattress. MJ lets her fingers card through his hair and she's not sure if he thinks she's awake or if her acting even had him fooled at all. Either way, he continues.
"She's going to think of a much better name for you," he whispers, then, "but just between you and I - being Link for even a little while was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Because I met your mum and she's just my favourite thing in the world. She's going to be yours as well - so maybe, just for me, or her, you can be super nice from now on, okay? Because being sick isn't nice, buddy. But we'll forgive you anyway."
MJ pulls her bottom lip between her teeth to suppress her smile, but she's not sure it works at all, because falling in love was never what she planned. But she loved Peter as Link and she loves him now and she'll love him forever.
"Wait -" Peter starts, his tone making MJ's heart race a little too fast as he places the side of his face against her stomach.
"Two heartbeats?!" he says, too loud for the lateness of the night. MJ's stomach drops - she's a planner, she's planned for one baby. She never planned for two. She immediately thinks about asking May to stay for six weeks instead of three and how she needs to ask her mum to see if she can get another space in preschool and -
"We can have a Link and a Zelda!" Peter shouts, looking up at MJ with no surprise at all that she's awake on his face.
"Peter!"
a 'sequel' (if you squint) to 'lights, camera' by @awakening5 that doesn't count as spoilers bc he loves a happy ending as much as me so!! (idk if the fic ends w them preg like i doubt IT but if so let it be known i called it years in advance and ty) x

20 Questions (for fanfic writers)
1. how many works do you have on ao3?
45
2. what's your total ao3 word count?
1,280,212 lol
3. what fandoms do you write for?
presently? Just spider-man ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
4. top five fics by kudos:
Paradise (spread out with a butter knife) - spideypool 72k - soulmates au that's actually about the power of friendship
Don't Freak Out - parkner 136k - the one where they get kidnapped and spidey saves the day in the first chapter then they spend the rest of the fic falling in love
A Peach Like You - parkner 73k - sequel to a 16k coming of age one-shot in Harley's POV. This one is Peter's POV and he's autistic, overworked, and overwhelmed and this is the very worst time ever for falling in love so he's absolutely not going to do that... on purpose.
The Distance Between (You and Me) - parkner 29k - bodyguard au! Harley was kidnapped and rescued but his kidnappers are still out there so Tony begs an old friend to keep an eye on him until Natasha hunts them down.
You're Freaking Out - parkner 166k - sequel to Don't Freak Out this time with Plot! and Miles!!!
5. do you respond to comments?
Sometimes? I've gotten really bad about it :( After an update/new fic I try to get all the comments that come in over a week or so... but then I retreat into my cave and giggle and squee over them in private.
6. what is the fic your wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmm I don't really do angst and especially not endings... but maybe The Devil is a Hopeless Romantic? I wouldn't call it an angsty ending though. Maybe bittersweet? Idk it's been awhile since I've read it. Not my favorite tbh
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Happy endings are my bread and butter lol The happiest? Uhhh
Lemme just plug For the First Time, Eye to Eye because it's one of my all time favs and hasn't come up yet.
8. do you get hate on fics?
nope!
9. do you write smut?
yep! Baseball Smut ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ yeah that's the title just posted this morning!
10. craziest crossover:
I haven't written a crossover since I was writing for spn and none of them ever made it out of my wips folder lol I had spn crossovers with Firefly, Teen Wolf, The 100, Criminal Minds, and (naturally) The Hunger Games. Man, I miss that. Such a versatile show.
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that I know of!
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
YES! biggest compliment so cool
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
nope! Done some brainstorming a time or two but just for fun. idk that I could collaborate that well what with my disappearing into the abyss habit...
14. all time favorite ship?
I mean parkner's got the longevity doesn't it? Dean and Cas will always have a special place with me though
15. what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My time travel time loop parkner fic le siighh
16. what are your writing strengths?
Hmm I think overall voice (not just dialogue but internal narrative too) and breathing fresh air into old tropes.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Action scenes. My god they take forever to think of a way to do them that isn't tired and boring. And then I still have to write it.
18. thoughts on dialogue in another language?
adds enrichment in my enclosure
19. first fandom you wrote in?
hp
20. favorite fic you've written?
oof umm probably Peaches Ain't Pretty (the alluded to 16k Harley POV coming of age one-shot). Taught me I could write outside of fanfic if I wanted. It's actually the foundational inspiration that lead to Red, like my bleeding heart in your hand. Opened up the whole beach (if I'm brave enough to leave the sandbox). Anyway it's got a special spot in my heart. I'm probably due for a re-read tbh.
Thanks for tagging me @spoofymcgee!

1. how many works do you have on ao3?
112!
2. what's your total ao3 word count?
1,318,348
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Some version of Spidey almost always, though I've dabbled recently!
4. top five fics by kudos:
Everybody Talks with @seek--rest
Parallel Lines with @seek--rest
Picking up the pieces of a lego house
Learning curve
Been waiting for you
5. do you respond to comments?
Yesss

Hmmm.
Probably Giving My 5 green tiles to you?
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
The TBART series for sure.
8. do you get hate on fics?
No direct hate. I've more had some very backhanded remarks and unsolicited criticisms that have been sent my way.
9. do you write smut?
Oui. I do now innit
10. craziest crossover:
Until this weekend I hadn't written any sort of crossover before, merely AUs inspired by existing media.
So I suppose my only crossover will have to be my craziest which isn't that crazy at all as its post NWH Peter meeting a few X-Men
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware?
Please don't this isn't an invitation
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I'm aware!
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
YES!!! It is so fun!!
The idea daunted me for a time bc of self doubt innit, but it takes all the fun of screaming about your own writing and screaming about your friends writing and mashes it into one huge cacophony of screams!!
14. all time favorite ship?
Has to be petermj. They're just built different to ME
15. what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Hmmm I've been humming and hahing about a line that separates words - I started it in a flurry while consumed with other fics and the outline SHOWS, plus it being a Christmas fic means I have to be in a certain mood which has made it very hard to return to
16. what are your writing strengths?
Getting into a characters head, building out a world from their pov.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
Descriptions. Whether it's scenery or physical character or action. The image of a scene is so clear in my head but translating that to word is difficult.
18. thoughts on dialogue in another language?
If it needs to be there, yeah.
19. first fandom you wrote in?
Wouldn't you like to know
20. favorite fic you've written?
AHHHH
Some version of you, right now

HYPOTHETICALLY if you were to write a dad!peter fic what is the dark and troubling premise 😌
you can't do that that's illegal
okay SO there's basically two options for approaching this, in my head
option one: mayday pov, peter is dead. maybe he is killed as spidey when she is a child, or maybe this has just happened. either way, she has taken up/is taking up the mantle of spidey, and there's a lot of reflection on what her father was like, and what it even means to carry on his legacy. this conception of things to me is like: spider-man is like a bloodline curse. it doomed peter to die young and leave his daughter, and it will doom her to die young and leave her daughter, and so on and so forth. she knows it's true, but it won't stop her, just like it didn't stop him. this is also a scenario with potential to bring in an adult morgan stark, having taken up her father's mantle, and do a kind of CW remix except everyone knows they're in a tragedy this time. something something fathers and daughters, something something there is only one ending to this story.
option two: peter is alive, mayday is the one who died. she decided to be spider-girl, whether out of her desire to emulate her father or her desire to prove herself to him, or both, and she is killed in the process. you have peter dealing with the fundamental question: did he do this to her? to which the answer is, well, yes. how does he come back from that? can he? to which the answer is, most probably, no. this one almost certainly ends with him dying as well--out of grief, and guilt, and the inevitability of his fate as spider-man.
the other, and potentially controversial part of all this is: neither of these stories exist without MJ featuring heavily, and that means confronting her role and perspective on all this. yes, i think peter is flawed and selfish, vis a vis fatherhood and marriage, but with that comes the necessary corollary of what it means for MJ to stay with a man she must know on some level is going to leave her daughter fatherless. she gets to make that choice for herself, yes: the love isn't less real because you know one day your loved one will be gone. does she get to make that choice for their child? and what if it all leads to the death, not of her husband, but of their child?
idk. idk! it's complicated and imperfect and in many ways a story worth telling, but it would take a lot of careful balancing to make it work without being either a) unfairly harsh on peter and permissive of mj or b) simplistically reductive of both of them

Do you ever find yourself slightly resentful of how fanon DC has completely overtaken canon DC? I like fanon most of the time but it is so difficult now to find stories that are based in canon. Batman stories are by far the worst offender.
I'm not 100% sure if you're referring to the fact that a lot of recent stories in the comics are pretty ooc or if you mean fic, but based on the last few days of asks, I'm going to assume you're referring to fandom works specifically. And the answer honestly is yes.
I in general have complicated feelings towards fanon. While certain types of fanon can actually create stories that are more complex - for example most of the Spider-Man fandom has pretty much accepted that Peter is Jewish and has depression and anxiety - or even just make for pretty fun concepts - I just love stalker!Tim okay I don't know what to tell you, or purring!Spider-People!! - the vast majority of fanon is mostly really flat characterization or actively damaging. Going back to Spidey, pretty much every bit of MCU!Spidey fanon is fucking awful. And yeah, a lot of Batfam fanon, especially surrounding Jason - is really fucking awful.
I think it's fine for fanon to exist, but the fact that it so often overwhelms the actual canon stories means that sometimes canon gets actually rewritten in people's minds. Like the people who've been in my inbox recently asking me if pit madness is actually a thing - because if you've had minimal contact with canon, how the fuck are you even supposed to know it isn't? It's so rare to come across a fic that doesn't bring it up, even as a sidenote, and when it doesn't, it's not like it's an active mention that pit madness doesn't exist - it's just there. And it's such a damaging piece of fanon, I know I keep bringing it up but it's because I have to, it's really harmful, especially since it's basically NEVER given a trigger warning. But there's also other annoying fanon - Cass as a perfect angel or Steph being reduced to a waffle fan and Tim to a coffee addict and nothing else and erasing Dick's canonical anger issues entirely, which is maybe my favorite character trait of his (although this one can also be blamed partially on Tom Taylor's terribly ooc writing of the character in the current Nightwing run...).
And the thing is yeah, sometimes we read fic purely for the escaping and the fluff, but I know a lot of us are looking for angst and hurt/comfort and fics that take themes (whether from canon or not) seriously, and it's really frustrating how difficult they are to find. I much prefer a fic that takes Dick's trauma seriously than one that relegates him to supportive older brother only. I much prefer a fic that wrestles with Bruce's inability to love Jason the way Jason wants him to and the physical abuse he's inflicted on his children than one where he's perfect and never done anything wrong. Yeah, I don't mind reading stuff for fun where there's never been anything wrong ever in the batfam. But I'm also low-key upset that my second most kudos'd fic ever is the stupid ooc batfam 5+1 I wrote in an hour. I'd much rather people read hang on which verges on character study and has, you know, themes and stuff. Also parallels, which if you've noticed my tags, are like, my favorite thing.
So yeah, I do dislike the fact that fanon has overwhelming taken over so many fandoms, and especially since batman has become my main fandom over the past few months due to brainrot, I'd love if people took these characters seriously, damnit. But this is what happens when a fandom is so majorly comprised of people who outright admit to have never read a comic in their life.

ooh ooh!! if it’s not too late: could i get a quick backstory on why the Gang is majoring in what they’re majoring in?
YES ABSOLUTELY OH MY GOD !!!
okay so peter has already stated what he intends to major in. it was in chapter four when he was talking to harry:
Harry’s brows quirk up, just slightly. “Oh, really? What are you planning to major in?” The question makes Peter perk up—these prerequisites are soul sucking, but he can’t lie, he’s excited to eventually make it back into a lab again. “Biochemistry, physics, and chemical engineering,” he says. Then, more as an afterthought, feeling that bubble of energy that he used to get when making a new discovery in the labs at the tower, or coming up with ideas with Ned, he adds, “I’ve also considered mechanical engineering and doing a chemical physics degree instead of separate physics and chemical engineering, but the more I looked into it, the more it seemed like a good idea to do the individual programs first, and then maybe come back one day for chemical physics in the future, you know?”
i picked these degrees because 1. when looking into them, they just felt like what mcu peter would be most interested in, but also 2. the main majors that peter tends to have in the comics is biophysics, bioengineering, and photo journalism, and since photography isn't as big a thing for this version of peter, the other two felt more fitting, but i thought regular physics better suited mcu peter. and then chemical engineering, while often connected to like industrial chemical plants, is basically the development of products through chemical processes. which is like. literally peter making his spidey webs lol.
i haven't officially stated any of the other characters majors in the fic yet so just to be safe i'm going to put theirs under the cut and use the spoilers tag for this post in case anyone wants to wait until it's brought up in the series! (warning: harry's answer is Very Long)
harley's was obviously going to be connected to engineering in some way, that's just like. very obvious in my head for any version of harley that's based on canon and not a total au. specifically, though, i see harley more of like mechanical engineering. while i see peter as more about the chemicals (even though he would also be good at mechanical engineering, esp considering in homecoming it's mentioned that he used to be in the robotics club) i see harley as more like a bot builder, a tinkering kind of dude. kinda like tony. mechanic, you know? i pretty much feel like every version of harley i've written would major in mechanical engineering.
though on my alt ao3 babyloveparkner i have a fic with harley majoring in mechanical and aerospace engineering, electrical and computer engineering, and minoring in chemical and biomolecular engineering, so like... i think mechanical engineering fits him best but i could see him double majoring in something else.
for homeward bound harley specifically? as of now, where we're at in the first fic, he's planning to major in just mechanical engineering, but as the series continues he may become open minded to doing a double major or minoring in something as well. i can definitely see hb harley getting attached to electrical and computer engineering. i haven't decided yet for sure if he'll actually add something else but at the very least he'll consider it at some point.
gwen was kind of hard to decide tbh? because like canonically she is also a stem major, in the comics she specifically majors in biochemistry, but like. idk i wanted to keep her stem and an absolute genius but i wanted to try a slightly different approach.
currently in the fic she's technically undecided other than knowing she wants to go into stem, but as the series progresses she's going to find a passion for criminal justice and forensic science. i may also have her double up with something else, maybe she'll still also get a biochemical degree as well, but with her being involved in peter's investigation and her dad being a cop i can just really easily see her wanting to combine her love of analysis and science with a passion for solving things and helping people. specifically for hb gwen!!
harry was the hardest to figure out because no matter how much i have looked i have not been able to find a single confirmed major for him in any version of canon. like he's also incredibly smart in most versions of canon, especially the most recent game where he's shown to be as nerdy as peter (even though he also states that peter is the smart one out of the two of them) so it's like...
it's really hard because obviously homeward bound harry is VERY different from any version of canon harry, which was done very intentionally because of the fact that in no way home norman mentions the fact that oscorp doesn't exist (which is why i made it so norman exists in hb but that he tried starting up his business during the five years between snaps and in the same industries as stark industries so, while oscorp does exist, it isn't a huge skyscraper like it usually is, which is why raimiverse norman wasn't able to find it and assumed it didn't exist at all) and then norman says "my son..." with this pained expression on his face, basically implying that harry doesn't exist either. but, like with oscorp, i wanted to make it so that harry does exist but norman wouldn't have been able to find him even if he tried going to like a local library and looking him up.
hence the name change - harry lyman - and, also, by making him harry lyman, peter doesn't recognize his last name and connect that he's the son norman mentioned at FEAST. but also that means harry can't know who his dad is, because if he mentions that his dad is norman osborn at any point then peter will be able to connect those dots anyway. therefore, harry doesn't know his dad, and oscorp is a little starter business between norman and otto that's struggling to make it off the ground and build any traction.
but that fundamentally changes harry in a lot of ways, you know? he doesn't have the same daddy issues he has in canon because he doesn't know who his dad is and has had no influence in his life from norman. the most significant thing about his dad is that he was never in his life to begin with. but that also means harry wasn't raised rich, he wasn't raised surrounded by his dad's business, and he isn't expected to take over the company one day like in canon.
so that crosses business degrees off of the list, because without the influence of oscorp and norman, i don't see any reason for harry's character to be interested in any sort of degree relating to business. plus, there's still the fact that his character is shown to be super smart, so a stem degree would make the most sense, and then also there's this connection between him and his friends because they're ALL going in some kind of stem, which i think is cool.
but what stem degree fits harry? specifically homeward bound harry?
i looked through a lot of lists and did a lot of probably unnecessary research into various different types of stem degrees, and i kept hb harry in my head the whole time - the way i've developed his personality, what would make the most sense?
what i've decided on is applied mathematics.
the reason for this is because i can very easily see harry loving math. i haven't really gone in depth with his background prior to the start of the fic - all that's really been established is that he was raised by his single mom, emily, in the suburbs of new york, and up until esu, he never had any friends, which contributes to why he values his friendships with peter, gwen, and harley so much. and, obviously, he doesn't know who his dad is and doesn't really care to find out.
his background is going to be explored more down the line in the series (i've said this before but by the end of the series there's going to be scenes from the pov of everyone in the spidey squad, including harry, and also one shots from various perspectives as well) but what i'll say here is that his childhood was pretty confusing to him. he was happy with his mom, yeah, and he may not have been raised rich but he was never poor, either - he never worried about food or clothes that fit or losing their house. he grew up comfortable.
but also he grew up unsure about a lot of things. he was never able to make friends because he didn't really understand how. the kids at school never seemed to struggle with talking to each other and making up games on the spot and becoming friends in a matter of minutes, but his brain just never worked like that. he could never figure out what to say, he could never really get into the games the other kids wanted to play, and while he liked running around a playground sometimes, he always preferred a book or a worksheet.
he's not neurotypical, is basically what i'm trying to say. then again, literally none of these characters are, but harry was never like a "normal" kid. (harley is kind of similar in the fact that he never really had any friends in rose hill and he never wanted any, either)
so basically, harry struggled to understand a lot of things, like how to make friends, like why he didn't know who his dad was (his mom has always told him that it doesn't matter, which is kind of why harry now doesn't care because he's always been told it doesn't matter so why would be care about something that doesn't matter, right?), and various other things in the world and the people around him.
but he could always understand math. it's consistent. there's rules. sometimes the rules are confusing and kind of convoluted, but with enough practice, even the confusing and convoluted ones can make sense. there were always things he was curious about, too, though, so while he found comfort in the structure of math, he also found intrigue with other stuff, too. he loved to learn. always has.
applied mathematics feels like it makes sense for homeward bound harry, because applied mathematics is literally the application of mathematical methods in different fields. it can apply to physics. it can apply to medicine. it can apply to finance and business. computer science. engineering. biology. robotics. SO many things.
he loves to learn and i think he would love to be able to apply math, something he's always loved and found some comfort in due to it's consistency and that he's always found fun due to it feeling kind of like a puzzle he needs to solve, to various other fields that he would also love to learn about. it's all encompassing.
that's a really long explanation i'm sorry i didn't mean for the answer to end up this long but!!! those are the majors that i've decided on for the core four in homeward bound!!

fandom ask game: 1 8 12 15 16 17 21
the character everyone gets wrong
Okay, I don't know that this is *wrong*, per se- but I think the ITSV characterization of Gwen Stacy has everyone thinking that Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider/Whatever is this like... cool, super competent hero with an unwavering sense of right and wrong while her incarnation in the comics is just about as far from that as can be. For starters, Gwen is older, at least 19 to start but the story spans at least a year, maybe more. She's also a certified mess, and she makes a lot of mistakes and missteps and spends a lot of time disappointing people, and we didn't get a sense of that in ITSV. That's fine, because at the end of the day it was Miles' story, but even making her a ballerina with sick dance moves instead of a "she gets by because she has powers" fighter just makes her seem way more put together than she is. I'd like to see more of "barely holding it together like she's made out of masking tape and old corn dog sticks" Gwen in fanworks.
common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
That there is a "best" Spider-Man. You are 1000% entitled to your *favorite* Spider-Man, but the character has been so many things over so many years and mediums, each geared towards a different audience- people who try and put some sort of objective judgement on something like that are just stating their personal opinion as though it's fact.
If you don't like a certain incarnation or love another one, that's fine! Just own that as your personal opinion.
All the Spideys are friends and love each other, even when they fight.
the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
IDK about unpopular? What does that even mean these days... I guess I'll interpret it as "characters that need more time in the sun"?
I have a soft spot for Arach-Knight (the Moon Knight/Spider-Man hybrid from the Infinity Warps comic) and I wish there was more fan content of him. I think it was a genius mash up, because so much of Spider-Man's internal conflict comes from an inability to compartmentalize the different parts of his life, but Arach-Knight is this great example of compartmentalization gone too far. I believe the implication is that the 616 gang is aware of the temporary folding of the universe? So in theory they might still retain some memories of their Warp selves? If I was a faster writer, I'd love to explore what that means for 616 Peter.
Oh, and shout out to Last Devil, silent hero from like 5 pages of Spider-Man/Daredevil. We barely knew ye, but I found myself very compelled. The design, the implications of a Daredevil who has a connection to the Hand... there's so much going on there, I want to crack him open like a geode.
Second shout-out to Weapon Xi (the "not deadpool" from X-Men Origins: Wolverine) because as bizarre as that interpretation was, the character has the potential for so much ANGST and I want it.
that one thing you see in fanart all the time
Alright, I guess the point is to be spicy, so I'll go ahead and say it. I've reached my quota of "twinky goodboy uwu Matt being manhandled by big stwong Frank" artwork. I'm good. We can stop.
you can’t understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
When they were handing out the part of the brain that ships Wolverine and Nightcrawler, I guess I was getting second helpings of "love Nightcrawler". It's not that I dislike the pairing, or even that it squicks me, it just does nothing for me. I nothing it. I see tons of beautiful art (and I've read a few fics) but I might as well be looking a a photograph of a very nice car for all the warm feelings it stirs in me.
The wild thing is!!!! I LOVE friends to lovers. Love some best buddies who mean the world to one another that come to mean even more. I just...??? I don't know. There's some kind of blinders on me when it comes to those two. Maybe this isn't the answer to this question bc it's more about my own inability to like something than not being able to understand other people's interest in it.
I think I also have a tendency to try really hard to understand why people like the things they do. Like, even if a dish is not for me, I'm still able to say, "I do not want to eat this, but someone who loves spicy food would be crazy for it." And I have that approach to fandom stuff too- so with *most* things I think I have some understanding of *why* it has a fandom, or what the appeal is.
there should be more of this type of fic/art
Stuff based on the Marvel 1602 universe. I really want to take a stab at doing some artwork of this at some point (after my current projects give me some breathing room) but gosh. I'm surprised more people aren't playing in this universe. Maybe it's because the books came out before the MCU boom? Maybe because they're kind of dense or historical based AUs don't interest people? I just feel like it's fertile soil and gosh, drops just enough crumbs for us to use to make a whole meal.
part of canon you think is overhyped
A lot of the classic X-Men stories. I don't know if it's fandom that lauds them as the best thing ever or just the people making media that are convinced the stories that were popular four decades ago still hold up, but like... some of those stories were revolutionary because it was the first time we'd seen the concept in comics- but that was decades ago. The concept of a hero being pushed over the brink and embracing evil is very well explored now. We don't need ANOTHER Dark Phoenix story. My hope is that if/when the X-Men enter the MCU, we really embrace some of the weird stories that team has been through.

good luck with work! we'll get through it (and there's stranger things on friday to motivate us)
ugh I used to write mainly for him after his spidey movies came out cause no one was reading andrew’s spidey fics anymore or even at all really so the resurgence of those fics got me slacking with mcu peter… the cutest fr

when/if you've watched no way home and are willing to share, i would LOVE to hear your thoughts about it
PLS THE NEW SPIDERMAN CAME OUT COME BACK TO THW FANDOM WE NEED U ITS SO GOOD AHHHHH (it's okay if u don't lol just whenever I think of spiderman I immediately think of u lol and thIS MOVIE IS LITERALLY JUST UR FICS I LOVE IT)
so thoughts on nwh?
Thank you all for asking lol
I just saw No Way Home this last week. This answer will contain spoilers for Spiderman No Way Home, so if you haven't seen it, please proceed with caution.
tbh guys I give it like a 6.75/10.
It was. fine. It was entertaining enough.
More under the cut.
Parts I liked:
I liked having the other Spideys. I have historically hated Tobey Maguire's Spiderman, but this time I was actually very pleased to find that he was very relatable as the oldest and most experienced of the group.
In the moment when he put himself between Norman and Tom Holland Spidey, I thought there was going to be a narrative parallel between his and Blondie's death from ITSV (I honestly thought that that would be REALLY cool but was both bummed and pleased when it didn't happen).
Tom Holland is a phenomenal actor. Yes, he is picking up jobs that look stupid as hell, but you know what? I forgive him for that because he worked his ass off in the Spiderman films and, by god, he fought and cried and got MAD. It was wonderful to see MCU Spidey finally be angry, like really really angry.
Like YES YES YES. THAT'S THE SPIDERMAN WE KNOW.
So loved those parts.
Obviously I loved Andrew Garfield's Spiderman coming in and talking NONstop while other people were talking. Like that guy could not let Tobey Maguire Spidey finish a single sentence. He does motormouth spidey so well. And the bits between MJ and Garfield spidey were adorable. Was it cheesy when Garfield spidey crumpled to pieces after saving MJ from a fall that killed his Gwen? Yes. Do I care? No. Narratively, he finally got to take the dive and make things just a little bit more right for himself.
My favorite part of the whole film, though, was Garfield Spidey and Maguire Spidey popping each other's backs. HANDS. DOWN.
I don't care about literally anything else. (*except Matt catching the brick. Charlie had 4 lines in this movie and said 'I'm gonna make the most of this shit.')
Things I didn't like:
I appreciate that this film was essentially a way to walk back the entire characterization of MCU spiderman up until that point. I see what they were trying to do.
I also see that what sets MCU Spidey apart is the ability to work on a team. The other guys are lone wolves, so yes. I get it now why MCU spidey was built up as he was.
The comparisons between him and the other spideys was a very good way of handling his so far lackluster, boring-ass character development.
My main gripe is that we could have had this shit from the start. They wouldn't have had to walk all this shit back if they hadn't made him such a terrible, unrecognizable character in the first place and ending the film as they did essentially made everything he'd been through so far feel like it didn't matter. That was so many deaths just for us to end up with a Spidey who is finally at the beginning of his story.
Idk man. Not for me.
Also I hated the Dead Aunt May part of this plot. I HATED IT. Especially because it left a 17yo boy literally alone in the entire world and I'm like we really ended on this note?
MCU Spidey is a sad sack of shit right now.
FURTHER. It's not that I don't think that May could have said the line 'with great power comes great responsibility' but it means something different coming from Ben. Like, in terms of Jewish identity, Ben is the last living Jewish member of Peter's immediate family, and for him to say that, is tied to a WHOLE lot of baggage around like Jewish conceptions of power and social and communal responsibility. May isn't Jewish, so while its fine for her to deliver this message, I was just really, really let down.
It's yet another thing that makes me go 'this Spiderman isn't for me. This Spiderman is for Christians. He's been made for their comfort, not mine.' If they had at least somehow made May Jewish, I would have accepted it more easily. But yeah. That was a huge disappointment for me.
Other things I didn't like were Stephen Strange talking the way he did to a fucking 17yo like good god. Of course Peter hadn't called the university to contest his rejection. 99.9% of people don't fucking do that, and Peter is a c h i l d.
Don't love this Dr. Strange. Don't love how he has a lack of respect for his fellow sorcerer dude.
WHAT A DICK.
His whole scenes made me motion sick. I don't need that shit, Stephen. Please tone down these CGI backgrounds.
ONE MORE THING.
Why the fuck is the MCU insistent on putting Cap's shield everywhere? God, I cringed so bad when they put it on the statue of liberty. How. Fucking. Embarrassing. HOW EMBARRASSING.
Anyways, the best parts of this movie were the individual actors playing off each other and acting their asses off. All the villains deserved more screen time and more complex thoughts/feelings, too. TAKE IT FROM STRANGE. GIVE IT TO DOC OCK.
GOD.
Yeah, so. 6.75/10. I wouldn't watch it again.

Next up is Coercion. I always wished you added another chapter or two to this.
The first time Tony takes Peter, Peter doesn't know why he's saying yes, trapped in his mind as his body gives in. He feels Tony take him apart, feels the pain and pleasure. Can do nothing but obey even still. When he wakes up alone the next day, at first everything is fuzzy and he doesn't know what to do. Then control returns and he can't help but fall apart. He thinks he's broken free of Superior's hold, so he does what any captured Spidey would. Tries to leave.
Only he gets no further than the balcony before Tony calls to him, commanding him to come back. Tony is very sensual yet deadly as he chides Peter. "Oh my little spider, I didn't give you permission to leave. Come back in where you belong."
And Peter tries to fight it but it's like he becomes a passenger in his own body again, even faster than what happened last time. Tony decides Peter should be punished for fighting, because he can tell the boy is railing against his mental control. So he calls Venom and has Venom prep the boy with his tongue while Tony uses his throat. After fucking him hard to the point Peter is raw and hurting, Tony whispers that if he wants control of his body, he should stop fighting and do what Tony wants.
Peter ends up working alongside Tony in the SI labs, creating all the things Tony commented that his people couldn't. It was the only way to stay in control. The same was true of Tony's penthouse. Peter submitted begrudgingly, because it was better to have his body then be trapped inside it at the whims of the Superior.
This fic. Tagging @snowstark!
Listen i love monster fucker Peter, and I wrote this with the thought of Eddie and Tony both fucking Peter 😭😂
With Tony's ability, I kind of based it off of vampires, and also from this book called Inkheart, so there's a little mix between the two!
Tony can turn it on and off as he pleases, and he doesn't have to look at people in the eye for it to be effective, though its more potent.
He kind of encourages compliance. Like, he doesn't full out demand Peter obey him, he just kind of suggests he should and he's so powerful that the thought of not obeying doesn't even register.
But definitely at some point Peter's will breaks through the suggestion just enough for Peter to think yeah this isn't good I should go. But poor thing doesn't even stand a chance when he's under 24/7 surveillance.
And plz I can just see Venom tongue fucking Peter as he chokes on Tony's cock until the boy is sobbing and desperate. And Tony just, suggestive says "its so much better here with us, isn't it? You don't really want to leave, do you?" And Peter just cries and shakes his head. Of course its better here with Tony and Eddie. He doesnt know why he'd wanted to leave anyway.
