Hello!!! i’m so interested in the HB2 plot! I feel like we see peter angst way more commonly than Harley—so if you ever feel up for rambling about it under a cut or a spoiler tag this is a free space to do so! He really is my blorbo and you’re my favorite fic writer so I know whatever happens it’ll be amazingly done but I’m dying for hints at more of what that’ll look like! Are we talking, like, caught in the literal crossfire or devastating hostage situation 😂

i’m actually very VERY slowly making a parkner fic rec list to post at some point but just. WHAT. there are So many INCREDIBLE fic writers and saying i’m your favorite is BONKERS to me but also so nice i ??? thank you??? oh my god???? ❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙

okay anyway sorry to what the ask was actually about pfkfj, HARLEY!!! i agree it’s definitely a lot easier to come across peter angst than harley angst, which most likely has to do with the fact that there is a LOT of material to draw from for peter’s character—various movies, comics, shows, timelines and universes and the games. it’s a lot easier to come up with angst for peter because there’s a lot of canon angst to choose from AND there’s so much content for him that it’s a lot easier to get a grasp on his character and create angst based on that, you know? but as a fandom we have definitely created many ideas of harley based on when he was a kid in im3 and his cameo in endgame, plus the WEB comics + ride at avengers campus, so harley angst is for sure out there but like you said it is NOT easy to come across lmao

as for the HB2 plot—i have an ask in my drafts from like a month or two ago asking for more information about hb2 and i’m gonna try to finally finish answering that and post it sometime today, so that post will definitely include some insight in what to expect from the sequel, but harley in hb2 specifically? i GOTCHU.

OKAY !!! let's do this!!

so homeward bound, as i've said before, is PETER'S story post no way home, right? but in hb2 it's peter AND HARLEY'S story post homeward bound. the first chapter is a recap of the first fic from harley's pov with a lot of extra bits thrown in, starting on the day that thanos first snapped and ending either where the first fic ends or maybe in the summer between school years. unsure as of now but one of those, for sure. so that's going to offer a lot of perspective about harley's character in homeward bound - his thought processes, how he was feeling in a lot of key moments during the first fic, things he was doing while peter wasn't around, etc etc etc.

but in hb2, after the recap in the first fic, it picks up at the start of their second year at ESU. he might still be roommates with harry. he might not be. it won't be the same room at the very least, so no matter what, there's going to be some changes, right? but also:

everything is different.

there are the small changes - not the same room, harder classes as they climb their way through the pre-reqs, potentially a different roommate, some stuff happened over summer, etc.

but also there are the BIG changes, like his dynamic with peter, and knowing that peter is spidey and now being a part of keeping that a secret due to peter not wanting anyone else to know. he also knows about the spell and he knows that peter is someone tony loved, someone that pepper and morgan and happy and rhodey knew and cared about, and none of them remember him, but they know harley.

with harley's pov comes the reintroduction of the rest of the world, basically. peter has no one, right? his old life was completely destroyed and erased, leaving no connections to the people he used to know, so he's been VERY closed off from everyone and everything.

harley, however, still knows pepper and morgan and happy and rhodey. he still talks to them on a regular basis. he has his mom and his sister. he isn't closed off in classes like peter is, actually having conversations with his classmates, even if he has no interest in befriending them. peter's pov has been very limited because his world has been completely changed. harley's has been changed too via the loss of tony and him being dead for five years while his mom and his sister had to adapt to a life without him there, but it's not been changed to the extent of peter's, you know?

harley is going to have a few struggles in hb2, some centered around peter, some not. there's going to be family stuff. there's going to be this urge to tell pepper and them about peter because he thinks that peter would benefit from having these people in his life again but also he wants to respect the fact that peter doesn't feel ready to do that.

there's going to be some conflict about the people in his life learning that he's involved with spider-man's business somehow. there's going to be people getting angry at spider-man because of it.

a lot of mental and emotional turmoil is going to come out of all this. but, in the physical sense, he's not going to be entirely safe, either. again, people are going to realize he's somehow connected to spidey. he's going to want to do whatever he can do to help peter, to the point where he's going to get a little reckless with it sometimes.

caught in the crossfire? yeah.

hostage situation? no. at least, not in hb2. not that i currently have planned. that could change, but as of my current plans, no.

Not-Yet-Written-Fics Game

This is fantastic actually the amount of things I have on the back burner is HUGE I'll have to pick and choose, oh dear.

For Your Life Hate Me (Twilight) As story about Carlisle and Jasper (very self indulgent) where they get kidnaped by María and forced to fight (like in Jasper's old days). To keep Carlisle alive Jasper is forced to do some not nice things that horrify Carlisle but he'll do them to keep the man who took him in safe, even if Carlisle hates Jasper in the end.

The Adventures of Young Man Henry Winchester and his Violent Grandsons (Supernatural) Henry Winchester survives his death by Abadon! And now he has to get used to modern life without his family. It is extremely painful and sometimes his grandsons are no help. The start of their relationship is very rocky but it'll eventually lead to better days. I'm very fond of this one.

It's The Ashy Taste Of Sacrifice (One Piece) Sanji and Zoro get turned into animals and (spoilers) in the end Sanji has to bear the brunt of this happening and suffer a life as a fox. The premise is silly but I promise you the contents are not. I am making this boy SUFFER and that is just a universal constant. Full of platonic friendship and hurt/comfort ✨And Zoro being a better bro to Sanji.

To Look Like Her (One Piece) And to keep up with the point before. This is a story about Sanji self sabotaging his body because he realizes that when he's sick he looks like his mother and he wants to KEEP that look. It does not end well for anyone. The Straw Hats get rightfully very pissed and concerned about this.

Mending The Tears One Spoonful At The Time (Sam Rami Spider-man) This is just a whole ass ploy to better the friendship between Peter and Harry. Harry realizes something is off with Peter when he notices his friend is ALWAYS hungry. When Harry offers help Peter's pride gets in the way and Harry has to devise ways to secretly help Peter.

Homeward Bound From The Sea (Frozen) Frozen AU where Agnarr survives the shipwreck but is lost for some years in an island until he's eventually found by a fishing-ship. He gets rescued and returned home but things are hard for father and daughters equally. Full of Agnarr!whump and everyone having to adapt to this new reality. Kind of non-verbal Agnarr in this one.

When Doriath Fell (Silmarillion/Tolkien) AU where Dior and Elured and Elurin survive BUT actually Dior did die he just came back wrong. So Dior raises his children as a feral creatures in the forest surrounding Menegroth. But Elured and Elurin sort of have to take care of their father as well because the man is not well. Of course, this thing is full of angst what did you expect?

The Price Of Freedom (Sandman) Hob rescues Dream from the fishbowl of doom and Dream thinks he needs to repay him with devotion and love (just like he did with Alianora). Surprisingly shippy but not really? HobxDream is not endgame at any rate, but Dream is convinced that's how he needs to repay his friend for saving him. Very angsty, the sky is blue, next.

Reverse 'Verse (Firefly) Another AU (of course) where instead of River being taken and brainwashed it is Simon who becomes the mortal weapon/assassin. And in turn it is River who has to take care of him and escape. Lots of sibiling feels.

I have so many, so so many, but i better not drag them up into the surface less I get tempted into working on them XD but here are some honorable mentions of ofter fandoms I have wips in: SPD Power Rangers (don't laugh), Batman, Hocus Pocus and a ton for Criminal Minds.

Do you know any good Jason & Cass fics?

oh my god what an underrated dynamic. yeah I have a few but not nearly enough unfortunately :/

in Homeward Bound Red Hood and Black Swan (Cass) show up and start heroing but nobody knows who they are. the JLA think Red Hood is a meta. it's a long while before his identity gets revealed. we don't actually see Cass and Jason interact that often because the point of the story is that people can't figure out who either of them are so it's almost outsider POV but their relationship is basically at the center of the story

river on the run is a series entirely dedicated to their relationship, super sweet

Nests and Cages is actually pretty plotty but spoiler warning it turns out Lady Shiva is Jason's mother. the last fic in the series is basically unrelated crack but the whole thing is great. it's also a jason-comes-back-home au which is one of my favorite things as y'all know

anyway yeah not that many but two of these are series so it's a nice amount of content, enjoy!!!

Any Dragon Ball fans in here?

I'm starting a new fic on Ao3 called Homeward Bound. Two chapters are out now but I've already written 12... and I actually wrote them before anything I've written for Jojo. With encouragement from a friend I've finally decided to post what I have after 2 years and just maybe, I might get the motivation to complete the story.

The fic is about Bulma Briefs (no reader insert here) going on a solo adventure on an alien planet. It's one of those stories where you really can't say anything without spoilers, but lets just say it's a wild one.

I really want to post a sneak peak of my upcoming Animaniacs fic ‘Burbank Bound’ (homeward bound AU that @madelynartz gave me permission to write), but i can’t, because everything is spoilers. Also, I’m nowhere near done (69,500 words and counting) but i want to anyway because my writing momentum is way down and i need the kick in the pants to keep trucking. 2. What’s next on your ‘to-read’ list? (Fan fiction or otherwise)

I don’t really have ‘to-read’ fics or anything like that, I just have fics that are currently updating and that I’m currently reading, that’s it.

But some of my fave fics that I’m currently reading are:

Flower Bouquet - fucking obviously I’m going to put this absolute masterpiece on this list; this right here is one of the most incredible works of art that I have ever read. It’s BkDk and it is Omegaverse but please, even if you’ve never really seen the appeal in A/B/O, read this. It’s..... fucking amazing. Just beautifully written, heartbreaking, so fucking good. 10/10

ilomilo - first of all, mind the pairing (they’re both adults in the fic though and the age gap isn’t that big at all). This fic right here has me in a chokehold. It is so damn good; I love the whole concept of it but listen!! Katsuki in this??? The sweetest little thing I’ve ever seen in my whole ass life, he is so damn precious, so cute and adorable and he wears dresses!! An innocent bean. This is the fic that got me to actually like Omega Bakugou, and it’s probably one of the only fics with that specific subgender that I’ll ever fully enjoy.

You’re a Blast - again, mind the pairing, and again, the age gap is practically nonexistent lmao anyways, this right here is one of my favourite fics. They’re both so complex and so beautifully written and there’s such good development in the characters and the relationship too. I’m so sad it only has two chapters left before it’s finished, I’m going to miss it so damn much.

Social Media: 101 - to be completely honest, I need to catch up with this fic. The last chapter I read was chapter 10 and the fic itself is so upsetting to me that I cannot read it until it’s over because I know fine well if I have to wait for Katsuki to get comfort it will actually break me. I have anxiety and it would keep me up at night lmao but!!! if you’re looking for some good fucking angst this is the fic for you. It hurts so damn bad.

blackugou widow - need I say more? It’s BAMF Katsuki, obviously I’m going to fucking like it. It’s an amazing fic, one of my favourites, I adore it and I’ve reread it an embarrassing amount of times.

So the Dead rages, and the Living weeps - Bakucamie friendship. That’s it. It’s such a good fic and I really love the whole concept of it; this was actually the fic that inspired me to write one of my wip’s about human experimentation. It’s really fucking good.

Blame It On Me - I just have a weak spot for angsty fics where Katsuki suffers, his parents suck and Aizawa takes care of him. This has all of that and it also gives us the Shinbaku brothers we deserve. Good shit.

Liability - Katsuki suffers again and needs a hug, I volunteer to give said hug. Good shit.

Fuck You, Pay Me - it’s just that good ol’ classic fic with mobsters and shit, it’s good. I’m just weak for that mafia trope, tbh, and Katsuki is a bad bitch in this. And also I really love Shinbaku.

Trial by Fire - this fic is one of the worst best things that’s ever happened to me. It is insanely well written, the concept is beautiful, it’s so good but fuck, it hurts so bad. The whole fic is just one giant angst fest in which Katsuki suffers so fucking badly, it’s really painful. Due to the fact that I am an emotionless rock I never cry but this fic right here broke me several times. It’s very good at reminding you how much pain Katsuki is in. It shows trauma and how to deal with it really well, it’s beautiful. But I stopped reading at chapter 37 and am currently waiting for the fic to finish because I cannot keep reading it until Katsuki gets his happy ending lmao

Scar Tissue - just some good ol’ Bakutodo omegaverse fuckery. It’s really sweet, actually, their interactions always make me happy and I really love this fic a lot.

The Ticking Time Bomb - fucking amazing concept, I love it. I adore this whole fic, I really do, and we’re currently at the peak of pain and I’m waiting for an update heh

A Fissile Family - I love all of Sif’s fics but this one is so good already. I just love the entire idea of Katsuki being close to the League, I really do. I love the villains and I love Katsuki, it’s basically the perfect fic.

You Do Not Fuck With Fair Folk - I’m going to be completely honest, I read this one while travelling from one country to another and I was starving and sleep deprived so I don’t remember much about it but I do remember looooving it, I do know it’s good and it has all the shit that I love, I just need to reread it lmao

The Truth About Family - spoiler alert but Katsuki has AFO. Need I say more?

Elixir - Katsuki having a special ability/power that makes him superior to others? Angst and fear and suffering? I love it.

Basically an Angry Environmentalist - it has human experimentation and I’m weak for that shit, it also has badass Katsuki and Izuku who I desperately want to punch, so it’s really fucking good. I love love love this fic!

Homeward Bound - Katsuki is BAMF and he suffers while also being a bad bitch, I adore it.

Standing at Ground Zero - this fic hurts. It fucking hurts. It is actually upsetting the way Katsuki changes and how much he suffers and goes through but it’s such a good fic.

He Wasn’t - this fic deals a lot with Katsuki’s mental health and it has so much angst; it’s also quite interesting with some plot twists and stuff. Good shit, I love it.

Lines Crossed - I’m just pathetically weak for Dabi and Bakugou friendships, like... my boys!!! Katsuki suffers and Dabi is a good boy.

By Design - I don’t normally read fics from Izuku’s POV but this fic!!!! So good, check it out please, it’s amazing.

Can you tell I lost steam near the end? Lmao

I put it under the line cause it got too long, anyways these are all absolutely incredible, there’s a lot more in my ‘marked for later’ section but these are the ones that really stand out to me and that I check for every day.

hello @ the anon whose birthday was yesterday: i’m very sorry i didn’t get hb chapter 16 done, i tried but things came up that made it so i wasn’t able to make a lot of progress on it, BUT i hope you had an incredible birthday and i will probably wish you a happy birthday in the authors note on the chapter when i do eventually post it! however, i promised that if i didn’t get the chapter done then i would post some snippets from it for you!! it’s a day late now, but here they are!!

Peter lets out a slow, shaky breath as the music washes over him, the introductory instrumental quickly giving way to the lyric heavy majority. On the next swing, he flings himself to the side, off of the street and above a nearby apartment building. Letting himself drop to the roof, he rolls onto his feet and gives himself a moment to look around for security cameras. Once he’s sure that it’s clear, he pulls his mask up—not all the way off, but just enough to hook it over the bridge of his nose, allowing the crisp late-winter air to ease the sudden ache in his lungs.

These songs mean a lot to him, even if he still struggles to understand them. Harley is pretty straightforward in a lot of ways, tends to wear his heart on his sleeve and make his cards known, but Peter’s started to realize the fact that maybe that isn’t entirely true. Harley definitely seems like an open book, but Peter had absolutely zero indication of the fact that he knew Tony, too. Thinking back on it, Tony had mentioned another kid every once in a while. Not very often, always making it clear that it was someone he knew but someone who didn’t want to be talked about, but even then, not once had Peter considered the fact that the kid Tony mentioned could have been Harley. His friend. His crush. A very fundamental part of who he is now.

Basically, Peter thought he could guess with Harley, thought he knew more than enough to be able to decipher Harley’s brain and understand the way he thinks—but then Harley gave him the burned CD. Despite it being over a month since Peter received it, he still doesn’t fully understand. Each song has a meaning, right? Harley made that clear in his note. Either the song made him think of Peter in some way, or he thought Peter would like the song, or both.

Peter is a puzzle solver. He’s a quick thinker with the brain of a chemist, a scientist, an engineer. He likes to look at inconclusive data and figure out a conclusion for it. But this? These songs?

…but as time advanced, the lovely days were covered up from view by an advancing melancholy haze that hovered near the dew…

Peter has yet to decipher them.

His fingers twitch at his sides and he spins around, pulling his mask back over his nose and mouth before promptly launching himself off the roof. He feels antsy. Restless. Thoughtless swinging is a good way to distract that feeling and give his brain the ability to stay on track. “What’s up?”

“Nothing, really,” Harley replies, the concern from before falling away. “I got bored. Harry and Gwen are at some study group for one of their classes and I was trying to do this essay, but it’s… I mean, it’s boring. Really easy, you know? Kinda hard to focus on ‘cause the topic is super simple and not at all interesting. I know I wasn’t gonna stop by today, but I was—I mean. I…” Here, Harley trails off, sounding uncertain of his words.

Peter launches himself over an intersection. Below him, a few cars honk as he flies over them. He waves but remains focused on the call, listening as Harley sucks in a sharp breath, lets it out slowly, almost… nervous? Anxious? Afraid? Peter frowns, parts his lips to ask—

“I was just wondering if you’d maybe wanna hang out,” Harley blurts, a bit rushed and breathy. Peter’s frown deepens, confused. “Just, like—like, a normal hang out.”

“As opposed to…?”

Harley huffs, something that’s kind of a laugh but also not his normal laugh. “No investigation stuff,” he supplies. “No Spidey stuff. No school stuff. Just… us. Hanging out. Together.” Then, almost as an afterthought, he adds, “Maybe a movie and some snacks…?”

(“It’s stupid,” Peter said when it was his turn, hands clasped around his cup of coffee and eyes flittering around their booth to avoid direct eye contact. “It’s kind of embarrassing, actually.”

Gwen quirked her brows. “Well, now you have to tell us. Is it Boss Baby?”

“50 First Dates?” Harry ventured. “Bring It On?”

An offended gasp ripped its way out of Gwen’s throat as she whipped around to face Harry sitting across from her. “Hey! Bring It On is a classic, okay? Don’t you dare—“

“Okay, lesbian,” Harry interrupted, rolling his eyes. Gwen parted her lips again, but slowly closed them with a glare after a moment. Peter snorted and shook his head.

“No, it’s, like—it’s not the movie that’s embarrassing, I guess? It’s more… the reason why.”

Harley was sitting across from him, head cocked slightly to the side as he peered at Peter curiously. “Mine’s The Pursuit Of Happyness,” he offered. It wasn’t his turn—he wasn’t supposed to go until after Peter—but still he spoke up, explaining, “It’s kind of fucked up, I think, but it’s, like… I mean, my dad left before I was ten, right? And I don’t really give a shit anymore—it’s basically been a decade, I’m over it for the most part, but…” He trailed off, averting his eyes away from Peter despite Peter looking back at him with surprise.

Harley has mentioned his dad a few times since they met, but only vaguely, here and there. Every time has been apathetic and deadpan, done as soon as it began, but this…

“I just—I guess I like stories where there’s a good dad, you know?” Harley shrugged, lopsided as he shrunk back in his seat a little bit. “Maybe it doesn’t make sense, but I like to see proof that there are good ones out there. Just because mine sucked doesn’t mean all of them do.”

Silence hung over their booth for a long moment. Harry looked understanding as he knocked his shoulder against Harley’s, sharing a small smile that Harley looks hesitant to return, while Gwen looked on with something a bit sad but a bit warm on her face, like she was upset about Harley having this struggle but she was glad that Harley was sharing. Peter kept his gaze on Harley, refused to move it away, waiting until Harley eventually looked back up and their eyes met across the table. Only then did Peter speak.

“Homeward Bound,” he said, gaze steady on Harley. He saw the way Harley’s brows twitched together, the way he seemed to think for a moment, before his eyes went a little bit wide, apparently realizing exactly what movie Peter was talking about. “The one with the animals.”

The booth was silent again. Harley stared back at him.

Peter found that it wasn’t as hard as he thought it would be to explain, “It was one of May’s favorites. She was a nurse for a long time, you know? Wasn’t until after we came back from those five years that she decided to change it up. Before that, she worked in an emergency room. Sometimes in the ICU, when she was needed. She saw… a lot of things.”

He heard Harry shift in his seat. Felt Gwen’s eyes on him. He didn’t look away from Harley, didn’t even want to blink, and Harley continued to look right back. Gave a small nod, barely there, hard to see—but Peter saw it and felt the encouragement coming from that small action.

“She didn’t tell me about it,” Peter continued. “Some stuff, here and there, when I got older, but for the most part she kept it to herself, but I could tell when it had been a rough day. She’d come home looking like she aged ten years. And after a really rough day, she—I mean, she wouldn’t say it, but I could tell that she just needed a chance to get the emotions out, and she’d pick a movie or a show that has a happy ending but gets pretty sad along the way. Homeward Bound was one of her go-to picks. It’s a good movie, you know? Always made her cry but had her smiling at the end. I’d always watch it with her. It became one of my favorites.”

There’s more to it than that. Peter faltered, unsure if he wanted to keep going, but something in Harley’s eyes was shining and he felt some unexpected courage bubble up in his chest.

He still hesitated, but ultimately added, “It also… I think about May when I watch it, you know? Because I always watched it with her, but it also…” He trailed off, pondered his wording for a minute, before stating, “There were reasons it got to me, too. It’s emotional in a lot of ways and May always had a soft spot for animal movies, which I think is why she always picked it, but for me, it… it was kind of nice to see a family come together like that. I didn’t have that, you know? I don’t really remember my parents. I barely remember Ben. Looking back on it, I only really remember having May, and I love her, and I’m so grateful that I had her, but it was—”

Just lay it out. It’s just me and you.

I’m right here. We’re okay. It’s just me and you.

It’s just me and you, okay?

Pulling in a shaky breath, Peter said, “It was just me and her. I wouldn’t trade that for the world, but there were times growing up where I would think about what it could have been like if I had been raised by my parents, if Ben never died. Kind of like what you said, Harley, about wanting to see proof that there are good dads out there, right? That kind of logic. I want…”

Harley looked sad. He looked heavy. He looked like he wanted to go back in time and save Peter’s parents himself. Like he wanted to use Tony’s tech to prevent Ben from dying.

“I want to have that reassurance that not everyone ends up like me,” Peter finally said.

With that, he looked away—down at the table, at his cup of coffee. He went quiet and waited until the others picked up conversation, apparently realizing that he was done talking for the time being. Even then, he didn’t look up. Not until he felt something hit his foot, and then he glanced at Harley, who was still looking at him with something horribly sad and overwhelmingly fond in his eyes. Harley hooked their ankles together under the table. Smiled.

Peter slowly, slowly, slowly smiled back.)

I love how it was intended as crack and then got serious and everybody (author and readers alike) were suddenly riveted with this more emotional Homeward-Bound-esque drama to get back to Dean. So good, seriously, haha.

It's a Dog by Jedi Sapphire (FFnet). Rated PG, Gen, 4k words. Summary: A vet gets a call to the scene of a fire, where she finds an injured puppy. Then she meets a man called Dean, who seems just a little crazy. Also, there's a witch in there somewhere. Set vaguely after the S6 finale; no spoilers past 6.22. fanfiction.net/s/8699532 my thoughts: Short but packed with such adorable cuddly hurt/comfort (fire-singed & kinda traumatized Sam). Summary: Teenage Sam and Dean on a hunt with their father, but when things go badly wrong it drastically alters the Winchester family dynamics. Will the boys survive? Lots of LIMP Sam and Protective Dean. fanfiction.net/s/4966430 my thoughts: So this is a trilogy/series but because it’s on FFnet, when you’re ready for the next story you have to go back to her author’s page to find it. Regardless, this whole trilogy was epic brilliance, with a lot of fantastic hurt!boys (but the Sam whump in particular is special) wrapped up in sweet moments (Sam’s first transformation) and sprawling magical battlegrounds where the boys are such BAMFs!!!

Summary: Harvie doesn't know what to make of the man who saved her, or his great, yellow-eyed hound, but one thing's for sure: there are stranger things in this rider-ridden world than haunts. ao3.org/works/193826 my thoughts: Brilliant, interesting OC outsider perspective that’s kind of unraveling the mystery of Sam and Dean. This fic also features animal transformation/shape-shifting tropes and it’s all inside a bizarre post-apocalypse AU. Fantastic fic!

Puppy Dog Tails by Rahmi, Rated M, Gen, 13k words. Summary: Sam and Dean get turned into animals a lot. fanfiction.net/s/5634980 my thoughts: Ah man I really loved this. Made me laugh but also the affection and closeness they get to experience as a result of being animals was so adorable. Also I love Sam as a cheetah and Dean a wolf. I'm always looking for more cat!Sam in my life.

We Go Forward by jairose. Gen, Unrated but I’d rate it General Audiences, 27k. Summary: Dean gets bitten by a dog and then gets sick as a dog for three days, where he then becomes... well. A dog. Who'woulda'guessed? ao3.org/works/8024332 my thoughts: this was a really fun, light-hearted & interesting story about familiar!Dean (Dean's form is a doggo) and basically how his witch becomes Sam. There's no uneven power dynamics, just a bunch of convenient spells, consent, and cuddles between them. Loved it! And omg I just realized there’s a giant 200k completed sequel to this, YAASSSSS.

Category: Jared/Jensen Tails by keep_waking_up (AO3). Rated NC-17, 67k. Summary: Jared couldn’t imagine the kitsunes had ever lived without the werefoxes to look down on and this was just another example of it. Jared Padalecki is a homicide detective for the werefox police, up until the kitsune police department decides to recruit him as their ‘Fox Consultant. There is nothing Jared wants less than having to work with the kitsunes, but he doesn’t have much of a choice. Of course, on the first day of his new job, one of the city supervisors is murdered and an official from the US government is flown in to handle it—one Jensen Ackles, an eight-tailed Heaven kitsune. Jared isn’t sure what’s going on, but he just wants to lay low and stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, fate—and Jensen—have other plans. ao3.org/works/1894395 my thoughts: This is in my top favorite fics of all time. The world build - werefoxes and kitsunes omg so cute imagery, and then the characterizations: Jensen’s both haughty and kind, Jared sympathetic but wary. And they have to work together to solve a murder! It’s like all these amazing elements jampacked into one story, how?!!? Anyway, go read it. It’s awesome.

29 Days by ashtraythief. Rated NC-17, Jensen/Jared, 29k. Summary: Twenty-Nine days stuck in ninety square feet would have been bad enough in itself, but that was before Jensen realized he had to share the cell with a werewolf. Despite being natural enemies, he and Jared have to find a way to work together to escape a group of hunters. ao3.org/works/3347903 my thoughts: a great hate at first sight, captivity love story. The nature of their relationship is harsh but... how else would a relationship between a werewolf & a vampire be, honestly? I don’t have a vampires AU reclist yet but fits in animal transformation for sure 👍

Summary: Since he was a little boy, Jared has only one wish; to become a magician like his father and brother. Although Jared is extremely talented, his familiar - his soulmate - must find him to pass the exam. When it almost seems that Jared can never become a true magician, a tabby tomcat enters his life and turns it upside down. But what is the secret behind the tomcat with the most beautiful green eyes? ao3.org/works/27504847 my thoughts: The Jared angst actually got me emotional in this one for a little bit, I was not expecting that! hahaha. Wow though, this was such a great story, such a satisfying read. Jared's mean family, the kind mage teacher at school (also Jared's lovely uncle and his store), the elusive Familiar (the anticipation buuuuuilds!). Jared's cool talents as a mage and there's some bits about his inherent goodness/oneness with nature that's so cool, cat!Jensen and his own unique power(s) & then this fantastic action-y ending. YES! I was so happy with this fic 😊🥰️ ALSO shoutout to the lovely amberdreams for their artwork in this fic. It was so innocent and nostalgic, almost. Like an adorable children’s book romance. 🥰️ 🥰️ 🥰️ This fic was included in my 2020 Variety Pack reclist and my soul stuff reclist

Category: Unrelated Sam/Dean Iron Ridge Pack ‘Verse by meus_venator. Rated NC-17, unrelated Sam/Dean, 193k. Summary: Federal Marshal Jensen Ackles of the Hunter Division was the best tracker the department had on the west coast. Having watched his entire family be slaughtered by a wolf pack as a child, Jensen dedicated himself to becoming a hunter. Under his watch no one would ever suffer as he had, and renegade werewolves would be brought to justice and shipped back to the rez where they belonged. When a call came in about a were sighting in the sleepy town of Munter’s Gorge, Montana, Jensen thought he’d be home in no time. Then he met Jared at the local coffee shop and the case suddenly became a whole lot more complicated. ao3.org/series/248002 my thoughts: Fucked up A/B/O in all its glory. I absolutely love it with zero shame - really, how can you wander about fandom with shame? Fanfiction is pure id and the journey into meus_venator’s on-point id game is always a rabbit hole of addictive depravity with wholesome love & tenderness that somehow bubbles out of it all. Her works (especially this one) hook and drag me in to bed as early as 8PM and doesn’t let me sleep until like… 3AM, hahah. This fic was featured in my wincest noncon reclist.

Phoenix1966′s A Hole Straight up to the Sky. Rated NC-17, unrelated Sam/Dean, 62k. Summary: Captured by scientists determined to save the human race from impending extinction, two weres - seemingly strangers - are caged together in the hopes that they'll mate. What happens between them is unprecedented and changes the course of both their races forever. ao3.org/works/4129951 my thoughts: This fic just dives right into pulling your heart out with its initial premise and the author doesn’t let go of you from there. I couldn’t put this fic down - the tenderness amidst the torture and then such a satisfying ending, AHHH. Amazing work.

Instinct by NixBlaque (AO3). Rated NC-17, unrelated Sam/Dean, 30k. Summary: When Dean Winchester finds a dog chained up and caged on a routine demon hunt, he and Bobby see no other option than to take him along for the ride. The last thing that either of them expect is the realisation that the dog is more than just a dog, a discovery which rocks Dean’s world to its very axis. Everything his father has ever told him says that anything that’s not human needs to be killed, but confronted by a shapeshifter named Sam who has managed to work his way straight into Dean’s heart, his instincts say otherwise. Warnings for: Non brother au, brief descriptions of torture, explicit m/m sex, demons, violence and copious amounts of angst. ao3.org/works/1014391 my thoughts: This is in my top favorite fics of all time and thus certainly among my favorites of the animal transformation/shape-shifting tropes. Transforming SPN characters into unabashed canine cuddlebugs is truly a weak spot of mine.

The resistance is made up of surviving humans and Luna-borne creatures such as weres. Dean, a Marrow Pack werewolf, runs missions to take down leviathan strongholds and rescue those imprisoned and enslaved there. On this particular mission, Dean is shocked to discover one of the young slaves is a werecat, a species so rare that most weres thought them extinct. ao3.org/works/19159384 my thoughts: I wrote this! This fic is included in my slave!AU reclist.. 👍 Category: Sam/Dean Skin of the Beast by AlulaSpeaks (AO3). NC-17, Sam/Dean, 30k words. Summary: Find Dean, find Jack, fix it. Sam's mission should be simple, but after a mysterious storm transforms ordinary people into hideous creatures, Sam finds himself struggling to hang onto his humanity and stay alive. Joined by an enormous wolf, Sam sets out across a new and dangerous landscape trying to balance the draw he feels to the wolf and his need to complete his mission. Find Dean, find Jack, fix it. ao3.org/works/14900721 my thoughts: Besides being so amazing in its Sam-centricness, this story has so many tropes I hold dear. Animal transformations & into wolves in particular is so great imo (there’s a quick vague bestial sex scene but it was totally fine; passes the the Harkness Test imo). Then the peri- and post-apocalyptic wastelands. I gotta say I was so impressed AlulaSpeaks actually wrote the apocalypse as it was happening. It’s such a massive feat to just try and attempt it and she carried through on it brilliantly! Tremendous horror elements & action. And then there’s the soft love and cuddles. Ugh such an amazing fic!

The Cause Sanguine by glasslogic. Rated R, Dean/Sam, 48k words. Summary: Dean is lonely and depressed following the death of his father in a hunting accident. Guilt and grief are causing his life to spiral out of control, so he takes a rare moment of sobriety to walk away from everything and move to a remote cabin in the wilds of Montana. But it’s a very different world up there for him than the town-to-town drifting he has known all his life. Overhearing gossip one night in a local bar, he gets into an argument over the reality of werewolves and stumbles out into the woods in an ill-advised attempt to prove his point. But things never go smoothly for Dean, and what he finds changes everything he understands about hunting, his father, and even his own purpose in life. Dean has seen and done a lot in his time on the planet, but nothing has ever prepared him to navigate the strange roads of a relationship with someone who is only human three nights a month. ao3.org/works/337946 my thoughts: immediately feeling for Dean's grief and understanding his decisions to settle in little Sunvalley, Montana, the story gets off to a great start. Then the soft slow burn of learning who Sam is and how they develop trust and love is awesome. This was a really cool, sweet supernatural romance. Made me want to buy a fur rug, haha. There's a sequel I should check out too.
