Taking advantage of the last few weeks of beautiful weather for dog hikes. Xander will chase and carry and fetch almost anything. Today he discovered hedge apples. From the Osage Orange tree, which was planted all over Kansas to protect crops from our strong winds. I’d never heard of them till I moved to this part of the Midwest. The strange line of hedge apples in the middle of the path gave me a little chill. Perfect for Halloween season 🎃! Ustrasana. Camel Pose. The fabulous @sarahkscoular makes it look so yummy. This spring we’ve been working on the splits and using ustrasana as a prep. Sounds strange right? For hanumanasana, or what is sometimes called scissor splits, you need an open heart and quads that release. Camel is a lovely way to ease into that opening. Sarah is doing the full pose, but there are lots of variations. Try a gentle version by making loose fists and squeezing your shoulder blades together. Place fists on either side of your sacrum. Press gently as you press down into the ground, lengthen the spine and lift from your heart space. Release the head and shoulders back, cascading into a back bend. Keep you thighs parallel to the ground. You can move slowly, over time, to releasing the hands down to blocks and then down to your heels with toes turned under. At some point you may even flatten your feet as reach down to the soles of your feet or to the ground. It’s raining all week in Lawrence so you can join us online Wednesday. Our Yoga in the Park is meeting on Zoom at 6p. There’s been a Pop-Up Yoga request for Thursday at 7p, and we’ll probably have to be inside for Saturday’s 1p class.
